This was a very easy class. Most of the book use comes from the quizzes, but the answers are very easy to find. Her labs were easy too. There were a few times where I did not figure out the coding, but she offers time to help students on campus if you ask. Easy course, easy credit, totally recommended to fill in extra time.
I was out of school for almost 20 yrs & was really scared to take this class. Ms. Jaskie has been MORE than helpful in helping me understand. ANY time I have a question, she's available to explain what I need and she is one of the sweetest people I've met on the campus thus far! One of the best teachers I've ever had! I HIGHLY recommend her!
Jaskie is an awesome Instructer. willing to work with deadlines and help the students succeed.
Jaskie is a good teacher, she helps with deadlines and extra credit. Course is really hard and should not be taken lightly. Spend lots of time in the tutor center.
She is really helpful, answer every single question and explain patiently the problems until you got it. She also makes the class less stressful as much as possible(CSC 110 require very much time). She gives a lot of chances to get extra credits to get a better grade.
Professor Jaskie was well prepared and definitely new her stuff. The class was quite difficult but if you put in the time you can get a good grade. From talking with other people in class it is apparent that they didn't put in the time and their grade suffered from it. Basically put in the time get a good grade. If you don't you wont.
Too much work.
Mrs. Jaskie is an excellent instructor. She has an extensive knowledge of the material covered, and provides examples and assignments that assist the student in fully understanding the material. It's not necessarily an easy class in and of itself, but Mrs. Jaskie helps to make it very managable to get an A.
The class required a lot of homework every week, but it wasn't too much to handle. Make sure you follow the grading rubric! Don't buy the book because there's a pdf of it online! Notes were always on PowerPoint and uploaded to Canvas. For the most part, she was very clear & organized on what we needed to know for homework and tests. Great teacher!
Very clear lectures - in fact that class was a little easy for me and I was bored most of the time. Nice teacher, and is very thorough so that students can understand some very abstract concepts.
Easy class, great for people who haven't taken an online class before.
Mrs. Jaskie is one of those instructors who expect u to know everything. Most students do not know what's going on n class most of time. She doesn't give point for trying. Either it does work or it doesn't zero. She seek a reason to take points off. God helps us
Discrete Math is a tough course, but Kristen made it bearable. Homework is long, especially on proofs and the probability section. Tests vary on difficulty, but doing the study guides and reviewing the presentations can help considerably. DO NOT BUY/RENT THE BOOK!
Proofs are the hardest thing about this to be honest for me atleast. Outside of that most of it is pretty easy to memorize and adjust when it's on a test. Studying proofs before most of the tests is a good idea.
Professor Jaskie is nothing short of excellent! Truly enjoyed her class. She presents material in a very easy to understand way, and integrates videos in her lectures to break down long tough topics with exciting puzzles. PDF of the book is available online, plus she posts ppt lectures as well.
Pros: She tells you there's a free textbook pdf first day of class, cares about her lectures on students, makes good use of Canvas plus posts all lectures on there Cons: You have 1.5 hours to take 6 page tests where proofs will be half of the entire score (study proofs harder than anything!), not very happy to help students at times, no make ups
Kristen really knows her stuff. She teaches the majority of this class very well. There are some things in this class that is just inherently difficult so the only way to really get good at it is by practicing a lot. She probably can improve her way of teaching some of the topics but overall, great instructor!
Rate 8/8, too much Java. A lot of work and errors to get around, but professor Jaskie makes it understandable.
Good professor! Just make sure to go to every lecture since she does group projects and you don't wan to lose those points.
Very difficult class, but Professor Jaskie is willing to help. Lots of homework. Definitely going to spend a lot of time on this class.
Kristen was extremely helpful and always responsive. It is not an easy class but it is absolutely manageable if you go to class and do the work. Gives lots of extra credit opportunities and allows a sheet of notes for quizzes/tests.
I really really liked how hypergrade was used as apart of the class and how that was setup, I thought Jackie was a great teacher over all and taught a fair and fun class. Cheers!
Fantastic programming teacher!! I'm am so happy with the class. Prof Jaskie is the best. She cares about her students and really knows her stuff. But people need to know COMPUTER SCIENCE IS HARD. It's not cis105 guys. You will spend hours understanding the concepts if it's your first time and hours on the hw. Study the quizzes to pass the exams.
Expect a discussion board, lab, and quiz each week. The class is easy for those that have a basic understanding of computers.
I enjoyed having her as a teacher. This was my first programming class and she did a good job of making it understandable to me. She uses power points as part of her lecture but they are the best power points I have seen out of any prof. She usually responds quickly if you need help and you can meet her in her office for help out of class.
She is a fantastic teacher that really cares about the subject she's teaching. She made some difficult concepts quite easy to understand. Clear grading criteria, gives feedback quickly, and willing to help students as much as possible.
This is my first programming class and I learned a lot from her. She uses PowerPoints for her lectures, which were very understandable and straight to the point. They are so useful when I had to do assignments for HyperGrade. She is willing to help anyone who is having trouble.
I had a lot of difficulty with the speed of the class. It gets very hard after the midterm. Be prepared for it to be your hardest class.
Yes, the course was hard, but it was easy to pass if you pay attention and spend time on the assignments. She's very understanding and always willing to help her students out.
Good professor. You can tell she cares about programming and is a geek, which is nice for a programming teacher. Lots of hands on programming. Some of the tests are a bit pedantic, marking you off for missing spaces and periods and stuff, so be careful with that.
Great professor, gives a lot of hands on examples and explains everything she does as she's writing the program. Though this is a pretty tough class, expect to spend hours on the Hypergrade assignments and learning the material.
She is a great instructor who knows what she is talking about. She does go on tangents. The school had some issues with another instructor and she had to sub for them. This caused the class to get a sub as well and teaching styles were different. This caused her to grade assignments very late. I didn't know what grade I had going into finals.
Jaskie does a great job teaching, and you can tell she likes the subject. The material is broad and can be a little hard to grasp, so do the work, but if you do the work, you should be able to get the A
Beware that this class is difficult, Jaskie is a great professor and will help you after class if you have trouble understanding. She does give you pointpower and use Hypergrade for coding which is really useful.
This class is hard. Don't skip class you will not pass
This is a difficult subject, and Professor Jaskie knows this. She spends additional time on tough spots and glosses through the easier material. She strives to improve her course, so problem areas previously reported might be gone when you take it. There are three exams, multiple quizes and homework assignments. The book is free. Plenty powerpoint.
Awesome instructor. Definitely helpful, learned a lot. Textbook not required, but helpful.
Ms Jaskie is clear, enthusiastic, and confident. She does a very good job at getting a point across. She explains material very well, and she is available for questions anytime, she says we can text her. For a 110 class, its difficult, be ready to spend time in tutoring, doing research and going over other material to really understand it.
The proofs are the most difficult part of the class. Prof Jaskie is very reactive and does her best to make learning the material easier
I don't know anyone else who has a more creative teaching method and spends more time making interactive learning material than Jaskie. However, tests are packed and lengthy because she goes through a lot of material. Also, harder problems are worth more points. Out of 100pts on test, half goes to the 3 proof questions!
Ms. Jaskie is one of the best professors that they have for computers on the GCC campus. Shes a very professional, supportive, and caring person. Shes always willing to help all her students and she wants them to succeed in her class. I am glad that I took her for CSC180. If you want to learn from the best of the best, then take her class!
Somewhat easy class but a decent amount of homework makes sure you learn the material well.
Very good professor. Would take again.
Took CSC110 with her last semester. She's a great teacher and really cares about students. This class is hard for me. Easy to pass, but hard to master. Without her help I don't think I can "survive".
The class is very hard but she is willing to work with you on programming to help you better understand. She wants you to succeed so she is very helpful.
Difficult course but she is always willing to help with anything you may struggle with. Gives great presentations and will recommend to anyone.
Awesome teacher with great lectures. She's easy to follow and makes a confusing subject easy to understand.
She is a knowledgeable, enthusiastic and caring professor, who is willing to help whenever you have questions in programming. This course was hard for me, but she made it easier with her well-prepared lectures and effective teaching styles.
Shes a great teacher, and is great at explaining the material. She is also very fair on grading homework and style. The chapters does get harder in later the semester, but she does a great job of helping each student. I would most definitely take this class again. This is not a class you can slack off in, you have to put in the work!
Great lectures and Clear homework assignments.
She is available outside of class and during class is very helpful if you ask. Very slow and procrastinating grader. Explains the core concepts in an easy to understand way, but doesn't go beyond that to give you the big picture or in-depth too much. A fair number of group projects with your neighbors. Offers extra credit.
Overall great teacher, knows her stuff and teaches in a clear manner. Offers through out the semester one on one basis if you're not understanding the material. Though do be prepared to spend time working on hw assignments / spending time in the Computer Science Solutions if you're not understanding material
She is great!! She was my second Java 110 AB professor, because my first one was horrible. Jaskie doesn't require you to buy the book. She teaches you everything you need to know. She is great at answering questions, and quick if it's through email or canvas. She actually enjoys teaching. Probably my fave college professor.
A lot of work but if you can keep up you will pass with an A
Coding isn't something you learn overnight, and the concepts are abstract and a little tricky to grasp at times. Jaskie has great explanations and illustrations and the work in the class is well-designed. Workload isn't light, but isn't too heavy either. Lots of extra credit opportunities. Overall great class and teacher, will take her again.
EXCELLENT professor, you will learn a lot.
Professor Jaskie is an excellent professor who takes the time to construct lectures and presentation materials in an efficient and understandable way. Interesting and challenging assignments allow the student to hone his or her skills throughout the semester. The professor offers a great deal of extra credit throughout the course.
Very responsive to student feedback and will modify course content to enable greater comprehension. Willing to do everything to help students succeed given you put in the effort. Time management appears to be a slight issue with high turnaround times for proofs or anything she needs to grade by hand. Certainly not a big issue, and I still reccomend
She is passionate about the material which makes learning fun. Review the powerpoints and do your homework thoroughly. Material moves fast so taking notes in class is tough. Students also told me that she met with them outside of school to go over material.
The powerpoint slides are helpful to understand the material. She gives out detail solutions on the homework.
Great professor. Cares about the students.
I really liked everything in the course, this is one of the most mentally challenging courses but I really enjoyed it.
She cares about the topic and provide indepth topics and applications
She cares about the topic and provide in-depth topics and applications, She truly is interested in the topic and if ur a computer science major it will be interesting to you
She is passionate about the subject and truly wants everyone to understand the material. Can be a bit disorganized, and grading is usually slow. Class is sometimes cancelled with little to no warning. Focuses heavily on proofs. Is very open to feedback.
The class has a lot of material, but the teacher was able to get through it all smoothly. Overall the wasn't bad at all
She really gets involved with the class with activities and such. She provides explanations on top of explanations on the topics provided in class.
Good teacher and passionate about the subject she's teaching. Due to certain circumstances she did miss quite a bit of class, which set us behind. She gives a lot of handouts in class which could be helpful to some, but also uploaded them online. Lectures were done with PowerPoint slides, which turned out to be a good thing.
Passionate and great teacher.
Overall awesome professor you do have to spend time outside of class on homework and quizzes but they are beneficial. You know your grade right away so do not have to stress about if you are passing or failing
Professor Jaskie provides excellent, really thorough PowerPoint slides that cover everything discussed in class. Taking notes helps to understand the material, though. There are ten homework assignments along with ten quizzes, all of which are online. Then, there are three exams and one final, only two of which contain a written portion.
Very different class, and hard for someone who is very hands on. The class is very abstract in someways, and puzzle-esk.
I had this teacher for a coding class, and then this class. Both times she helped me whenever she could, and the course was easy to understand.
The class goes over a lot of material but she makes it as easy as it can be and would help students out whenever they had time to meet. The homework is critical in getting a good grade.
I took this class along with 3 othet hard level courses and this was the class that i would always look forward to because Jaskie made it really easy and fun for us. This class is an easy A if you do all of your work on time. Theres no late submits but that shouldnt be a problem.
Awesome instructor. Her PowerPoint slides definitely helps a lot when going over the material for class. I recommend taking her.
She goes into the material and some of its applications. There is homework and a quiz for every section. 10 sections in total. Every couple sections is an exam. Gives fine feedback. Love the puzzles in class.
Generally she was quite good, but due to personal issues and time constraints on her own part there were a few problems this semester. It made several lectures problematic, and more examples of the material could have been provided in class. Otherwise, I'd highly recommend her due to her personability, willingness to help, and enthusiasm.
Good professor, she presents things in a clear and concise manner. There are 10 modules with a homework and quiz portion. The only bad thing is the lack of programming in the course as it is mostly required for some sections to understand the material.
She's great. She really knows her stuff and will work with the class to adjust due dates that feel fair to everyone if we're struggling with a topic. She switched to a hybrid format this semester, so half of the lectures needed to be watched online. Watch on 1.25-1.5x to save yourself time - trust me, it won't be too fast to follow!
She ended up confusing the class, avoid her like plague
Would definitely take this professor again. She has a lot of extra credit, lets you use notes on the exams, and you can work in groups a lot. Dr. Jaskie really cares about her students and tries to make the semester very stress free for us. The course material wasn't easy, but there wasn't a lot of homework.
Professor Jaskie is the best teacher I've had at GCC. She is passionate about this subject and teaches in a clear, concise manner. Discrete math is a bit abstract but she made it very simple with the hybrid format of this class. She readily works with the class and is open to feedback - she provided quality education. Definitely would recommend.
Know/enjoys the content in this course. Can answer any question related to the content in the course.
Jaskie was a phenomenal teacher this semester. Even with this virus going around, she made it clear to everyone that she was willing to be flexible. The work was fine, and she made it clear, what needed to be done. I highly recommend her!!!!!
I had taken this course with another professor at another community college and withdrew from the class hating the subject. However, Jaskie has a talent of explaining the material where it is easily understood and relates to the real world. She also makes it fun, chill class, extra credits, and I can say I will remember what she taught.
Great professor! Lectures were online; about 2hrs worth per week, but you can easily watch them @ 2x speed, so about an hour per week. Print out the slides, take notes, and get an A. Clearly explains subject matter. Plenty of xtra credit opportunities. Test/Quiz questions were mostly from homework. Actually made the class interesting and fun.
A wonderful teacher who is available almost anytime you need. In this class, you will learn the content, while writing down notes, from PowerPoint lecture videos during your free time. Class meetups consisted of homework review and the occasional group work to further the classes' understanding of the material.
If you are looking for a class to skate by this is probably not the class but if you want a teacher who cares about the content and her students learning you found the right one. She gives loads on extra credit points for anyone willing to do the work and listens to her students. Something I did not take advantage of if you take her class do it!
Mrs. Jaskie is an easy-going teacher that gives out lots of work (Which lots of it are extra credit) but gladly helps you understand and feel comfortable about the material. Like, give out practice quizzes about the homework (Are not part of your grade).
Very understanding and really nice. Hard curriculum but she is always open to answering questions. Spends as much time as needed to go over homework.
Kirsten Jaskie made it easy for me to succeed, offering tons of extra credit and her own time to improve my individual understanding of her course.
I would not recommend taking Jaskie. Not responsive when I reached out to ask questions, would get frustrated when students seemed confused. Some classes are feel teachers help make learning fun and make it make sense. Jaskie was not one of those teachers.
I got an A because I went to one of Kristen Jaskies colleagues for assistance as Kristen was difficult to communicate with. Emails, calls, all unanswered. Tried speaking directly to her and was blown off. When she found out I went to her colleague, she told me her colleagues don't know as much as her. Unprofessional. The hassle wasn't worth the A.
Class material nteresting but wish I had a different professor. Ms Jaskie may be knowledgeable but classroom mannerisms are awkward, cringy, & condescending. Seems to struggle w/communication -not accessible when students need assistance. It is also awkward / ethically questionable that she tells students we should be posting good reviews about her
I do not recommend this professor. If it is offered with someone else, definitely take them. Kristin was inconsistent with her messaging and visibly irrated with questions. She openly states she will find as many points to take off as possible. It's like she is setting you up to fail and enjoys making life miserable.
Took Jaskie in 2022. She had a lasting impact on me as I now teach. Thanks to her style and methods, I learned how not to teach. Her lack of respect for students and degrading nature is something that stuck with me through the years to the point that when I find myself getting frustrated with my students, I remind myself to not be a Kristen Jaskie
