She's very helpful with any problems you have. Attendance isn't mandatory, but if you want to get a good grade, you should come and listen to her lectures because she gives useful information beyond the textbook. Get ready for alot of information getting thrown at you, but she's a great and open-minded teacher.
Ms Koblik was an epic teacher. Her lectures were clear, her insight was helpful and her knowledge about all facets of life, not just Art History, is hard to come by. Highly recommended.
Ms. Koblik was one of my favorite teachers at DVC. She was very helpful, in all areas, not just on course material. Has amazing insight and is incredibly intelligent. She has a ton of interesting information outside of what is in the text. Fabulous teacher and highly recommended!!!!
I really liked her. She's really smart and enthusiastic about the subject. She's also really helpful and clear. There is a field trip though. Also, it's really important to both read the book and come to class because you'll be tested on both. Overall, really good teacher.
I just wanted to learn about contemporary art history because it doesn't make any sense and Kris made it a lot of fun! All her tests and assignments are pretty straight forward, even if they don't seem that way at first. She is a pretty lenient grader and a funny lady. The only thing that's difficult is getting all the discussions in on WebCT.
I really like history, but when the first day of art history came I wasn't so sure that I wanted to stay in the class. Kris made it super interesting and enjoyable. She's clear and down to the point and adds a certain fun factor top the class Super Cool Lady also! Take her class if you want to learn something new defenitely!
Words can't describe how incredible her lectures are. I took her 3 semesters in a row! She is intelligent, witty, fun, and is always willing to help. Even while learning about Xtian art I enjoyed her class, she makes everything interesting. There are only a midterm, final, paper (5-7), and quizzes.
Hard projects and good memory required to recall art for finals.
Great teacher!Shes a crack up with her little comments during lecture and shes quite sarcastic which makes class interesting. If you study in class and read when your supposed to, the tests and papers are a breeze. She's super friendly and always willing to help especially when you go to her office hours. 4 quizzes, midterm, 2 papers, and a final.
Ms. Koblik does not take attendance but her lectures are so interesting & funny that I went to them anyway. She gets through ALL the material, is very fair, & knows how to engage students and make the material interesting unlike other Art History teachers at DVC. Easy A if you skim the book & go to lecture, a very worthwhile/fun class! Take it!
ms. koblik is very passionate about her subject and her class is fun and interesting. she tends to ramble on and always gets way off schedule which makes going to lectures a must if you want to pass the test. her slides are all visual no content so read the book and go to class. plus the papers are all about a new idea versus the actual history
Okay, Ms. Koblik is an EXTREMELY kind lady and I really love her bubbly personality but she has converted me, "art history :-)" into "art history BLEUGH!". I just cannot stand it anymore, her lectures were boring and I'd always find myself snoozing! If you love the subject, you'll do fine & even if you don't, actually. She's easy but NOT FOR ME.
Ms. K. is an enjoyable teacher! She has a fun sense of humor and makes art interesting. I appreciate art in a way that I didn't before her class. Quizzes, mid-term/final, and a couple papers are assigned. The quizzes and finals are from the lectures, so go to class! Heads-up: some of the content/discussion may be considered by some to be obscene.
Krider is a wonderful professor and is incredibly knowledgeable in her field. I have signed up for as many of her courses as I was able and regret my inability to take more! She is engaging and funny while imparting a very new perspective and encouraging student participation. I cannot commend her enough for all that she embodies :) YAY!
Her class is really funny and helpful but a lot of homeworks and reading. She require lots of extra time for study.
Mrs. K is very funny and makes class interesting. Lots of reading, but I did fine with just skimming. Lots of work: random in class assignments(easy, but can't make up if do't go to class), reading responses (20-25 in all by end of semester), 8 quizzes, midterm (2 parts: essay with group and without+questions), museum paper, and final. Good class.
really enjoyed this class.the teacher is clearly interested in the subject, makes lectures interesting.five scantron quizes, barely any hw, one term paper.midterm and final were easy, just study and know material.i recommend going to class to help prepare for quizes. overall great/easy class and loved the teacher.
WONDERFUL professor. I really enjoy her class. There are about five scantron tests, a midterm, a final, and a term paper. It's an easy class, though the term paper is a bit intimidating. But she's extremely helpful if you're struggling with any of the material.
Ms. Koblik was an awesome teacher! I would definitely recommend her to anyone interested in this class. Although if you can't handle a lot of information and memorization, this might not be the class for you. The class has 4 scantron quizzes, midterm, final and a term paper. I found them all pretty easy.
LOVE LOVE LOVE her! Ms. Koblik is the reason I'm interested in art right now. Really funny, entertaining and knowledgeable, makes Prehistoric-Roman art interesting. My favorite instructor at DVC so far.
She's and awesome teacher, very helpful and is hilarious as well.
Koblik is fun and entertaining. The comedy she inserts into her lectures makes the material more memorable. She's the opposite of strict, and doesn't adhere to little rules like other DVC teachers do. She trusts students to be honest adults. I feel like she is teaching on a higher level than some of the other instructors DVC.Definitely recommend.
She is an excellent instructor. She will know you by name after the first class, this shows how much she cares about you. Her lectures are really interesting. I will definitely take another class with her!
Her powerpoint presentations are amazing and easy to get. She brings attention to artists that are local. The quizzes and midterms are easy. Just make sure to do a good job on the paper and webct discussions. They are easy points that can bump your B to an A.
She is a very friendly woman. Her lectures are interesting and all her powerpoints are available online. Exams are broken into two parts: first half is group effort and the second is solo. Keep up with the lectures and crack open the textbook once in awhile & you'll find quizzes and exams EXTREMELY easy and straight-forward.
I liked the subject more than the class, but it is a lot to cover for one semester so I can't fault the teacher there. I did learn a lot, so there's that. Her multiple choice questions are worded strangely and I feel like she tries to trick you a little. She is very nice and is very helpful. Because she is young she knows how to use the equipment!
I have to say Koblik has been the nicest teacher I've ever had at DVC. She's very easy going, sarcastic, and friendly. She actually goes the extra mile and knows everyone's names, which is impressive to me. The class isn't too hard, just study and do your best and you should be okay. Definitely recommend Koblik, I was very impressed this semester.
really nice lady. I'm not an art junky so i was hesitant about taking the class. but it turned out to be a really chill class to take. Just pay attention and study a little bit before quizzes and you'll do fine.
She's a very nice lady. Just a few quizzes, a museum report, and a 2-part midterm and final. Overall a cool class. Some of the pictures she shows us in class are interesting, especially the background details of it.
Ms. K is one of the nicest professors I've known. I actually failed this class last semester, and retaking it right now. She treats me the same like all the new students. She always replies to emails and always excited to offer help. Textbooks are not mandatory if you attend the class. Her lectures are pretty fluent, clear, and useful for quizes.
Amazing professor who is passionate about what she teaches and knowledgable in her field. Keep the syllabus for her class! It contains study guides, essay tips and more that she personally designs for her classes. Quizzes are pretty easy but take the midterms seriously, they can be challenging. Overall great professor who I would highly recommend.
Favorite teacher I've had in college. She is so awesome! Super funny, smart, always respectful. Interesting class, lots of discussion. Textbook use optional but very helpful, and the old edition of text is okay; no turn-in hw; easy quizzes; fair midterm; one comparison essay. Attendance definitely mandatory. I highly recommend taking this class.
Koblik is a good teacher, just not my favorite. She listens to Sonic Youth and is a bit of a dork. That being said, she was on top of webCT, she made all her slides and handouts available. She really cares about her classes, and is passionate about the subject. I enjoyed the class, but wouldn't take another with her.
ATTENDANCE IS MANDATORY! If you just show up to class & pay attention you will definitely pass this class! She gives study guides for all quizzes, the mid term, and final. Textbook not mandatory but extremely helpful if you miss a class. Overall I liked this class and would take another class with her!
She is a very educated professor that will include "fun facts" every now and then. She makes funny jokes that relates to the material and is clear on everything. She always makes sure that we are all clear on the material before moving on. She's a caring professor and will even bend the rules for her students. I recommend her! You will learn a lot.
Ms. K is an amazing teacher. She is a very accommodating teacher and teaches very enthusiastically, making it easy to remember the material she went over during lecture. If you show up, do the homework assignments (only 4) and study for the quizzes (4) and do the one paper required, you will get an A.
Such a great teacher! Super easy class, she gives you a study guide. For each quiz and test know the stuff from the study guide and you will get an A. Also, listen in class. I got a B on the paper, and still got an A in the class. Great class and great teacher!
She is pretty rad. The class is INTERESTING and she makes it a lot of fun. Just make sure you attend and do all the assigned work and you will get an A.
Awesome teacher. Really helpful, sweet, and the class is SUPER easy. But I've still learned stuff. It's what I was expecting, just hang out and talk about cool paintings for a couple hours. There's a paper and few really easy multiple guess quizzes that you'll pass as long as you paid attention.
wow, wow, wow, wow... easily the best professor i've had yet. Super nice. Super smart. Incredibly interesting class. I love art, and this class only deepened my love for it. I took this class in the morning... so refreshing to wake up and talk about art for an hour. Did i mention it's a pretty easy class as well? Highly recommended.
I took this during the summer and my vocabulary has definitely expanded because of her. She's a Stanford grad and loves art history. She's got a hipster-quirk about her and a dry humor that's absolutely the best. Would love to take another class with her. Study and do the work, score ok on the quizzes and you'll get an A. Loved Mrs. Koblik !
Professor Koblik know so much so well about the material she teaches! She is always very enthusiastic in class. Very easy going class. I found it easier to just pay attention to what she says instead of taking down notes.
Kristen Koblik is a fantastic teacher. She really got me interested in art and kept me thinking about it outside of class. To get a good grade you must attend class! Other than that, the quizzes and tests are not very hard as long as you listen to the lectures. The class was an eye opener for me and I definitely want to take more classes from her.
She is an AMAZING teacher!! One of the best professors I've ever had. She is extremely kind, helpful, and makes class fun with her quirky and funny personality. She manages to remember the names of all her students and it feels like she truly cares about us and how we are doing. I enjoy going to class and it is easy if you just pay attention. :)
AMAZING PROFESSOR! She is an incredibly passionate and knowledge art historian. She makes this course so fun and enjoyable! Take this class, you will love it!
BEST CLASS EVER! Mrs. Koblik is brilliant!
Don't expect an easy A, Ms. Koblik is very passionate about what she teaches.Must use the textbook to study for quizzes and finals. At first I thought this class was going to be very difficult, and after studying extensively with the text book, I bumped my grade from an F to an A. Fabulous teacher that actually made me enjoy art history.
Koblik is very passionate about art history, and made a somewhat boring subject very interesting. She lectures pretty much the whole time, so it's easy to doze off, but she does well to keep the class engaged. The quizzes and 2 tests aren't that hard, as long as you take notes on what she covers in the lecture. Pretty interesting class overall
Approachable, knowledgable, and passionate. She can get off track on tangents, but it's always interesting. She manages to cover a LOT of info without rushing, and keeps the subject approachable and fun. Available for office hours and loves to help students with papers, projects, or just interest in art. Her classes are a great way to learn history
Koblik is the reason I have decided to minor in Art History! She makes class interesting and is super engaging and is hilarious too! I took her 8am class and even though it was early in the morning, I looked forward to class everyday and learned so much! If you are interested in art history I would hands-down recommend you take her.
Koblik is the best. I thought that this class would be really difficult and boring at first, but it gets better and better each day. Koblik is super clear and makes lectures fun and entertaining. I have a whole new appreciation of art now. It was fairly easy as well. Just come to class and write down what she says, skim the text and you'll get an A
Kristen is probably one of the most intelligent professors at DVC. She makes contemporary art very interesting and she is clearly passionate about it. Quizzes, the midterm and the final make up your grade and are relatively easy. Just study and use her lectures and review which are posted online and you'll do well. Overall, relatively easy A.
Prof K. is fantastic! She has a quirky sense of humor and is really passionate about art history! Pretty straight forward lectures. Some things aren't in the book, so attendance and participation are mandatory, seeing as there area few pop mini quizzes! She's hilarious and kind. Definitely take her if you have the chance!
She is extremely boring if you don't like art history. When I was bored, I counted her say "um" 79 times in a 10 minute span. She is an awful teacher because she doesn't understand that a lot of people find this topic very boring, and it's easy to get distracted bt her saying um or laughing awkwardly every could of minutes. Don't take her!
Unorganized to say the least. Graded our huge paper on which I did how orientalist inspired imperialism. Said my pictures used to help support it were more homoerotic ( one was, 4 were of naked girls). It seems like she just gave everyone a b. Quizzes are kind of easy, bs on most. Her study guides don't match quiz. Not sure where she gets them.
Ms. Koblik is a great teacher. She's passionate about the subject and really tries to make the lectures enjoyable. She can be pretty goofy, in a good way, and can take a bit to adjust to, but once you settle into class you'll really find she's one of the good ones. She's got a good sense of humor and hasn't forgotten what it's like to be a student.
Koblik is a great teacher. She is very passionate about what she does. She includes the students and starts discussions. She makes the class interesting. I had to take this class for my major and was not excited about it. She changed my outlook on art history and helped me understand more about art. She is very helpful and there for her students.
She has been by best teacher EVER. There is never a dull moment in her class. I don't really like art history and was expecting to be bored... boy was I wrong. As long as you do the work like the online quizzes (which you can take as many times as you like) and don't skip a ton of classes you will do fine.
Koblik gives you every chance to get an A. You just have to put in the weekly work (2 in depth assign per week) she's VERY considerate & take feedback very seriously. She takes out so much of her time for her online course. There can be quite a bit of work but nothing unmanageable. The assignments are simple.
Lots of reading. No textbook all online reading. Just stay caught up with assignments and you can get an A easy. Very nice professor. Extra credit. Some group projects. Four/five short essays. Around 5 quizzes. Answers emails fast and is very helpful.
Professor Koblik is the best. She knows her stuff and the class was actually interesting. There is no textbook required and she supplies all of the notes. YOU HAVE TO READ A LOT OF ONLINE WEBSITES. READ THE REQUIRED MATERIAL OR YOU WON'T PASS. Luckily, it was never boring. She is always accessible and is very kind.
Pros: Lots of extra credit, you can retake tests multiple times, easy work, easy to contact & talk to if you need help Cons: Not very clear w/ due dates, lots of assignments. She grades based on total points for assignments, not averages - easy A if you just do the work. You can skip the final if you have enough points at the end of semester
Koblik is an amazing professor! Her lectures are nice and organized, easy to take notes from (picture oriented). Allows for lots of discussion. Quizzes are online and easy to pass. Many extra credit options.
Started out in this class thinking that art was stupid and hard to understand. The class definitely requires work to understand the material, but it gets easier and professor Koblik is really understanding and great at what she does. She gives lots of extra credit opportunities and there is no textbook to buy!
Prof. Koblik is simply fantastic. She loves modern art, water polo, coffee, and people who are excited about art. If she did another class, I'd take it (even though I don't need any more art classes) <3
Love her! No textbook, she provides all the readings through canvas which is nice. Very passionate and knowledgeable.
Mrs. Koblik is an amazing teacher. Before taking this class I had no interest in art but now I really enjoy it. I love going to this class, the lectures are never not interesting and she is very funny. She is also very caring and wants you to learn, she truly loves her students. If you take her you will not regret it.
Prof Koblik was great! I took this as a GE but she made it really interesting but easy at the same time. I highly recommend her. Textbook is free online sources. If you try at all, you will do well. She wants to make sure everyone understands and succeeds.
Great class.
I'm not an art major so I really struggled in her class. She gave way too many home work assignments and her exams were unnecessarily hard.
Took Contemporary Art. A very left leaning class-but Koblik is respectful of her student's differing beliefs/opinions. She grades on a different scale: if you collect above 450 points you get an A. There is extra credit. Easy exams. If you do well you should be able to skip taking the final or writing the final paper and still get the A.
Sure she's nice, but she's not a good instructor. I counted 45 ums in a 20 minute period.
She's so confusing, and doesn't seem confident when she's speaking.
Professor Koblik is overall one of the best teachers Ive had at DVC. She is very enthusiastic which makes the class fun which allows me to enjoy learning about art history. She really gets to know her students and it is clear she wants everyone to succeed. I highly recommend her shes the best!!!!
what's the point of taking a class if it's all group work? She doesn't teach anything. Everyone is confused and she doesn't seem to get it. She says um a million times.
This course was terrible. If you want to take women's lib, take this class.
All the young kids LOVE this teacher but i don't understand why. She's nice, but I didn't learn much if anything from her. She isn't confident when she speaks, she says um, uh, like, er, about 5 times per minute, this is not an exaggeration. She gives crazy papers to read that no one can understand.
I LOVE KOBLIK!!! She is by far one of the most amazing professors you will ever meet. She makes everything fun, easy to understand, and is always there to help. There is a few articles to read, but no textbook. She is very understanding and willing to work with her students, never makes you feel dumb, and loves your input. 100% would take again!!!!
She is amazing, sweet, and kind. I have never been a great writer, but she tried to make the class fun and not too difficult to understand. Became online due to COVID-19, but she was still very great with responding and holding up the class with the assignments and informing us when needed. Would recommend taking her!
Koblik has become one of my favorite professors. The lectures she gives are absolutely amazing and it is rare nowadays to find someone with the same level of passion as her for art. Grades are off the point scale, and there are more than enough assignments that one can do to have an A in class. Don't know how one wouldn't receive a good grade!
Was intimidated by workload at first, but she's so chill. She connected art to real issues like classism, racism, sexuality, etc&I was never bored. We had a lot of cool discussions in class. Her curriculum was organized and made sense. She often asked how we were doing&didn't hesitate to help us with major projects. She wanted the best for everyone
Professor Koblik is passionate about what she teaches. The class had a lot of writing, but I learned a lot about analyzing visual media. The readings can be a bit long and confusing. However, she makes the class interactive and truly cares about her students. I looked forward to lectures every week. Kris is the best!
Koblik is probably the best professor I've ever had, she cares about her students so much and it really shows in the feedback she gives and how much resources she puts out to help write essays. She is very willing to work with students if you are honest about needing more time for deadlines + she gives helpful feedback! 15/10
Professor Koblik is the chillest professor I've had at DVC. With only needing to write 3/4 essays AND being allowed to rewrite them to improve your grade, it is hard it do bad in her class. She's very flexible, if you need more time TELL HER! She is also very willing to help you out and gives great feedback to help you improve! Take her class! :D
Interesting course. If you want an A in the class you have to complete a research essay (its easy). So just complete the general assignments until you hit the max of 400 points then you can focus on your essay towards the end. Don't be afraid to ask for help, she gives good feedback for assignments and research paper. Lenient with late work.
Professor Koblik is a wonderful professor! Outlines the grading system at the beginning so you know what to expect. Drops a bunch of low scores. Gives great feedback if you meet outside of class. To get an A you have to accumulate a certain number of points and do the research essay (the essay is easy if you meet with her). Overall take her! :)
Professor Koblik is a great professor with easy/straightforward assignments though her grading criteria can be confusing. Her class has a point-based system with a maximum of 500 pts. 400 pts for assignments/quizzes with a mandatory Research essay for the remaining 100 pts (necessary to get an A). ADVICE: Max out your 400 pts as soon as possible.
Prof Koblik is an incredible ARTHS prof! Course material is engaging and involves collective class discussion. Accepts late work, drops assignments, and is super accessible through email or zoom/in-person meetings. 4 essays inc. final essay, you write 3 of 4 plus the final essay; each are on a topic of your choice. I'd highly recommend taking Kris!
Umm I had kris almost 3 years ago and still remember her class. It was probably my favorite class and she is one of my best professors. Very supportive which makes it a great environment to learn. Hilarious prof and honestly I miss this class and this prof so much
Her teaching is very clear and her examples of art and essays are good. There's four essays, one of which is dropped so you don't have to do all four, followed by a final essay where you get to write about whatever you want. If you like having the freedom to choose what you write about, take her!
Unlimited try weekly quiz, 2-5 articles to read, 1 required annotation, biweekly post discussion, mid and final exams = 5 out of all discussed artwork (name, estimated date, type of art ) + 2 short answers + 1 paragraph = Study guide is your exam, 1 final essay = you find your sources in the internet - must be good sources though. EASY A for ESL
Professor Kris is amazing! She incorporates tons of humor in her lectures, I was laughing every class. Every lecture is interesting and engaging. There are a few easy small assignments, lots of test prep, and the weekly quizzes were great for review and easy! This is an easy class to get an A in and you truly learn so much I will miss this class.
Super kind, assignments are quick and easy, lectures are informative and necessary. You do not have to do all the assignments to get a good grade. If you get over 450 out of 500 points in the class you get a B, and you need to do the final project to get an A. I learned a ton during her class and it was really enjoyable!
Online course structure was easy to follow and the deadlines were very forgiving! Quizzes with every lesson that comes with unlimited attempts, just always double check your multiple choice answers. Annotations and discussions were easy. Stay on top of your work and you'll pass!
The best art teacher you will ever have. Kris made learning about art history so fun and engaging. There is a lot of reading and weekly quizzes, but you can retake and she records your best score. There are assignments due every week, but they're SO fun and creative that you don't even realize it's art history. I developed a newfound love for art.
take her class! easy A if you don't procrastinate. she gives very clear rubrics on all assignments, and always gives great feedback. only a couple assignments a week that i could finish in an hour. towards end of year, theres a couple projects that take awhile but she grades leniently! idc for art but she is passionate and inspires. loved her
She's literally the best professor ever, she's so passionate and her lectures seem like a conversation if people in your class participate, I loved this class and I loved her, she cares about us learning and we have weekly quizzes and annotations, quizzes have unlimited retakes and get the highest score as your grade. Weekly lectures but easy A+
She's literally the best professor ever, Weekly quizzes but unlimited retakes and you kept the highest score. You can easily skip some assignments without any problem. Try to do all annotations and assignments at start of semester so you can skip the final test and a lot of final assignments (not the final project). Lectures feel like a group convo
super casual teacher and super funny! The class DOES require you to think critically, and I have heard of my classmates being graded harshly. As long as you are intentional and can think deeply about things, this class will be a breeze. 5 essays total, but you get to skip one. occasional homework and readings/annotations. Due dates are mostly relax
Probably the best professor I've ever had. She made me actually want to write my papers and lets you write whatever you want to write about (within reason). Now that I'm writing essays in another class it makes me miss her class even more. She's also just super dope.
her class was wonderful i like way she taught and the stuff in it. and what everyone says in the reviews are true, she is very helpful outside of class and easy to get in contact. But fair warning don't take this class if you get grossed out easily there is some harsh topics and that are hard to process sometimes in the class so beware of that.
Her online class is really engaging. I've learned so much about art, and you can tell she loves what she's teaching. The gradebook is set up in a way that if you are consistent in the class, the final project is only required for students aiming for an A.
16wk fall. Engaging lectures, lenient with late submissions on essays. 5 essays total, lowest score dropped. Final is worth 25%. Stay on top of online annotations. Very helpful outside of class and always willing to discuss and give feedback if needed. Class requires lots of deep critical thinking in order to be successful.
