At first I thought I ended up with the worst professor but she is actually great. She is very nice and helpful. 3 writing assignments-she grades a little hard on them but she looks over them if u want her, I would highly suggest that. Theres one quiz per week which is online and easy...do these because they help ur grade alot. And one main project
She is very clear, very hard grader on your papers though, online quizzes are easy. She has a good teaching style which makes a writing class easier to take.
She's a very nice lady who is also very helpful. Her writing assignments are easy if you just ask her help on them. Quizzes help your grade a lot so do them. She is laid back and pretty funny. She's always in a good mood! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
Grades hard but if you ask for help she is definitely there. Attendance is mandatory but you get 2 free absences. DO THE QUIZZES they help your grade. Take her, she is very laid back.
Best professor I had all semester. She grades tough, but if you follow the guidelines there will be no issues, always ask her to review your papers. Textbook & quizzes are online. I really enjoyed this class and find everything I learned extremely helpful!
Best professor!!! Definitely recommend taking her class.
Best professor ever, very helpful grades hard but you follow her instructions you ll do well. 3personal assignment anf 1 group project. easy online quizes worth 25% of total grade. I strongly recommend her
Dr. Lawson grades strictly to enforce how others will view your written products in the real world. The group project takes a good deal of time. Start it early and keep up with the online quizzes. APA will become a familiar tool by the end. Dr. Lawson is very approachable and provides all necessary tools for students to succeed in her class.
Every class was entertaining and informative. She doesn't grade as hard as some say, but, it isn't a free grade. 5+/- papers(don't take any of them lightly, not even if it is a "email" assignment); Weekly quizzes (free grade boost, they are easy); Group proposal(Doesn't grade as hard as the papers, easy to get A and is 20% of grade)WILL WORK forA+
I like her class even if she grades hard. That can only help me improve my writing skills in the future. She's funny, but when you first see her you think she's one of "those" teachers, but give it time and you'll see she's a cool professor. I learned a lot from her, she prepares you for writing in the real world compared to just story writing.
She is the best professor I've ever had. She's extremely approachable, and her feedback is excellent. It's really helped me to write better papers. Don't expect to skate by. You'll have to do the work, but she is fair.
Dr. Lawson is the best professor I've had while attending UTD! You will walk away feeling like you actually learned something. You have to keep on top of the homework to make a good grade and follow the instructions closely. She is hilarious!
Couldn't agree more with other comments. I highly recommend Dr. Lawson. Class was early and she was lively. Yes, graded tough but you can go to her with assignment before turning it in and she will help. Aplia quizzes easy and don't take much time. Proposal group project requires time but you choose topic so should be interesting.
She is such a great teacher! She is very willing to help out if you are struggling with anything just be sure to ask. Make sure you turn in all your assignments on time though.
Professor Lawson is a great and fun professor. There are a good number of assignments but no exam. You can tell she is very passionate about your success. She makes the class a lot of fun and overall this was the best class i took this semester. I highly recommend her.
Awesome professor. Really fun and has a sense of humor. Doesn't waste your time and is very honest. Not much of a business background but she is still very helpful.
Dr. Lawson is an awesome professor! She is very knowledgeable about many aspects of business and is very clear in lecturing. The assignments we have are great for increasing our writing skills. I am so glad I had her as a professor! :)))
Professor Lawson is by far one of the best professors at UTD. Very helpful, treats you like an adult and values your opinions. Always has a smile on her face and a quick joke to brighten up the day. Great Professor. Really knows what shes doing. More of a friend than a professor if you build a bond by interacting with her. Great Professor!!!
She is a great professor, always willing to help students. Every class session is interesting and is not like BCOM 3311. You'll have fun with her. Easy assignments throughout the semester and I suggest to participate since she gives good letter of recommendations to students.
Remarkable. I GOT A JOB BECAUSE OF HER! Now that I have you attention, Dr. Lawson is one of those professors that a simple RateMyProfessors review, doesn't do justice. Nearly ALL the assignments in her class were ones that will help me out well after her class is over. Take her, and don't even think twice, take her NOW.
Such an amazing professor and friend. I look forward to taking her again for our upper-level advanced BCOM class. Such a blast being in her class!
Best professor I've had at UTD hands down. Class is all about presentations yet the Kristen is a somewhat awkward introvert herself. She really lets you know that if she can do it, you can do it. She also has funny lectures that include the students in a non-invasive manner. Take this class why you can! Thanks Mrs. Lawson and stay awesome

There are lots of assignments throughout the semester, but none of them really take a lot of work to complete. All of the assignments are helpful to prepare for your future career like resume writing, elevator pitch, online personal portfolio, etc. Lectures are funny. Lots of short presentation (3-5 minutes long per presentation).
She is my favorite professor at UTD.
Great lectures, i enjoyed her a lot, she is very good at explaining clearly. Easy homework but a lot of it.
Attendance is a grade. Most lectures are kinda boring. Projects are awesome and her personality is awesome. Hilarious, down to earth, wants to help, and shows importance of being professional.
Dr. Lawson is an awesome professor! She makes business communication fun and interesting. This class is great because it gives you the chance to improve your soft skills, which will benefit you when applying for jobs.
Dr. Lawson is awesome! One of the easiest classes I have taken. She makes classes real fun! Must take her for BCOM4350
No tests, just easy weekly or bi-weekly assignments. She finishes all the main curriculum before spring break giving you time to focus on your other classes. She's very nice and always willing to help and work with you.
Professor Lawson is a very lovely person! She is caring, relates to you, and wants you to do well. Allows late work turn in for partial credit. She really has some interesting stories to tell and is there for you if you need it.
Attendance is mandatory and classes are a drag. There is a lot of busy work to do outside of class and the assignments seem to be never ending.
Professor Lawson is a kind and interesting professor. She has an interesting sense of humor and relates really well to students. The class is not too demanding and she grades very fairly. She offers extra credit opportunities and wants the best for her students. A great professor that you can't go wrong with!
Professor Lawson is wonderful, and she makes the course an enjoyable experience. The assignments are easy, the group assignment/presentation you receive is simple, there are no tests, and you have one simple project you must complete and present. Would absolutely recommend her to anyone.
She's very chill and friendly. Class is very boring, but that's what you get in a "business communication" class. I did learn a lot about interviewing and job searching though, which is very helpful. She's definitely the BEST communications teacher here.
Prof Kristen is awesome. Easy work!!
Great professor. I always wonder why she isn't the head of the communications program in JSOM, as she is WAYY better that Watson. By far the best BCOM teacher out there. Don't take anyone else.
The best professor ever! She has an amazing sense of humor that made me want to go to her class just for fun! Has a kind heart and goes easy on students.
Awesome teacher! Very easy grader and her lectures were great. She treated us like adults and never had trouble interacting with her. The 2 big projects are annoying, but not hard. 11/10 would recommend!
Super great professor for an easy class. She's very detailed on what she wants done on assignments, and clarifies even further if you go to office hours. Attendance is part of the grade, so you need to attend class. Most classes even ended early after she handed out assignments.
I hate public speaking, therefore, I naturally hate communications courses. Professor Lawson made what could have easily been my most disliked class be my favorite of the semester. She makes lectures interesting, relatable, and fun. She genuinely cares about her students. I would recommend her to anyone.
All around great professor. The projects and assignments are actually interesting and the professor is very interesting and friendly. Has a dry sense of humor, cares about students, and has a great class. Take this class!
Really great professor. It's obvious that she really cares about her students and is pretty clear on her expectations for assignments. No tests, just one big project and a few small assignments. Be sure to triple check your papers for grammar because she does take off points for that.
Amazing professor! tries her best for you to make an A! Take her if you can.
Is just an all around fun person to talk to. She is clear in her grading criteria and does not expect you to go above and beyond. She recognizes what is mundane in the coursework and does try to make it more interesting. If she can't, she will let you know.
Great teacher and probably the best teacher on campus, take her if you get the chance
Good professor overall, and equips students with written and oral skills for their careers. She grades fairly and provides quality feedback. The only thing I disliked was her sometimes derogatory and rude speech during class.
Dr. Lawson was great! She made the lectures interesting despite the boring content. She's fun to talk to before class, and gives good advice on professional business stuff. If you're taking BCOM 3310, you want her as your professor
She is great and funny professor. She is a hard grader, but it's for good reason. I would take her again if could. She is really sarcastic (in a smart manner) and that what makes the class funny.
Dr. Lawson is an intelligent, funny, and super caring professor. She is always looking out for her students and helping them improve. She really makes public speaking much less anxiety-provoking. If you come to class (I don't see why you wouldn't want to she's AWESOME) and do your work diligently it's an easy A!
She is someone I'd probably like outside of school. But man does she nit pick your grade. The point of the class is to prepare you for a the "real world" so you can get a job. Yet she grades so hard that some may not even pass the class to utilize the resources that are provided in the class. I got an A Stats (hard class), but a C in BCOM. Common?
Very nice professor but gives a lot of work. Has a midterm and a final which you can study from the text and her review. Gives lots of presentations and individual work. She takes attendance, so don't skip. She kinda grades a bit hard, but gives feedback on how to improve. I underestimated the midterm and the final which screwed my chance for an A.
this class includes many unnecessary assignments and exams. for example, there is a final group project AND a final multiple choice exam which none of the other bcom classes had. the class and prof are fun however the assignments were graded harshly at times.
Professor Lawson was a fun teacher that make you feel comfortable presenting on front of the class. I'd definitely recommend her. Only downside is NO extra credit.
Noticed in the past semesters she had really good grade distributions but I guess due to new policy she tried to limit the amount of As in the class. This class was fairly easy as in very minimal work BUT the exams are hard (average 110/150). I was lucky due to COVID 19 that she decided to cancel the second exam. No extra credit, barely got A.
I agree with the previous review. I also managed to barely get an A in the class and got lucky she canceled the 2nd exam in her class. All other grades are easy but kind of annoying, think of it as busy work... the exam is not good... I was very worried as the grade distribution was good the previous semesters but COVID-19 really clutched up!
Mrs. Lawson is a sweet and caring professor. However, at the end of the class you have to create a portfolio which is largely a collection of assignments you have already completed and then write reflections on them. This is a colossal waste of time and counts for the largest portion of the grade in the class. It is a TON of work and not worth it.
The tests are absurd for a BCOM course. She said there were only a limited number of As she wants to give out and she does not care about how you perform and won't listen to what you have to say. The classes are her talking about basic stuff you already know and the tests are not nearly as easy as the content covered in class. Don't take her.
She's nice. But her business portfolio assignment is easily the worst, most useless assignment I have ever completed. She requires you to take every assignment for the whole semester along with tons of other useless reflections and compile them into a massive file. It's a graphic design assignment, has no use in reality, and is truly horrible.
easily the worst professor ive taken
The teacher is nice but the class alone was not easy. So much work had to be done almost everyday. The test are insanely hard. It does not relate to what you learn in class. I don't think I'll end up with a good grade only because of the tests scores were so slow.
Would not recommend this class only because the tests were not as easy as the practice questions. Most students failed the test badly even while being open note. Lots of useless assignments.
Most of the lectures are fine but the test and projects are worth more and the hardest thing ever.
The content of this class is easy but Professor Lawson's tests are super difficult. BCOM is a class where sometimes more than one answer can be correct but Prof Lawson is very stubborn and does not listen to her students. Her lessons and the textbook contradict sometimes and if concerns are brought up, she does not address them directly. Don't take
This is the first semester via Microsoft teams due to covid. All I can is if it weren't for the amount of smaller assignments, the entire class would be failing. The exams are so hard to even Dr. Lawson says they are designed to fail. I wouldn't recommend her if you care for her GPA. Otherwise, the material she taught was very useful.
Very hard class. Unnecessarily hard.
Test are super hard, most assignments are lengthy
The professor is very kind and informative. You will have one group project. Many small not tedious assignments. 2 discussion boards due every week. The portfolio project is the most tedious thing. Work on it as soon as you can. Two tests that can be difficult, she makes them up, they cannot be found on Quizlet. One resume and interview easy.
I've never regretting being literate before taking this class. Kristen constantly contradicts herself, to the point where I'm convinced she's a pathological liar. She will preach to you about how resumes shouldn't be more than a page, and then will say you're wrong when you answer that on an exam. Her portfolio is an excuse for her to not grade DB.
i straight up hate her and her grading is ridiculous- DO NOT TAKE HER don't be fooled by the earlier good reviews; she's not a great professor to take online
This professor is NOT forgiving and CONTRADICTS herself so many times. There are tons of professors better than professor Lawson. She is frustrating to speak with and not worth your time.
do not take this professor. professor lawson rides on her high horse and does not listen to feedback from students. her grading is inconsistent and your grade may not reflect the quality of your work. take a different professor who actually cares about students during hard times.
This class was a lot of busywork. She does grade pretty tough, and there are assignments due every week. The tests are difficult so make sure to do the test review! I actually learned a lot in this class about writing, I would take her again. She is accessible outside of class and responds to emails quickly.
Professor Lawson does not listen to any feedback from students. She contradicts herself constantly, grades inconsistently, and the exams make no sense. DO NOT TAKE HER.
Dont take her if you are looking for an easy A. While I ended up with an A in the class that was mainly due to the fact she had canceled her second exam. The exams are what brings people grades down everything else is easy to do.
Do yourself a favor and do not take her. Despite of her good ratings here, which misled me to taking her, she's terrible and she makes her classes harder than it should be. Tricky exam questions and does not give enough time despite of her questions being so long like c'mon.
Don't take her. This class is in theory not supposed to be hard but it is. No one got an A on the last exam and she somehow believes her teaching is flawless and that it was the students reading the ?s wrong. She grades hard for no reason. For a professor teaching 'communication' she's awful at it. Want a condescending prof? She's your best bet!
One of the best lecture-based professors I've ever had, encourages participation, open to conversation and gives good, timely feedback. Very good communicator. You must pass the exams, and there is one HUGE project- the portfolio. BUT, it's mostly things you complete in class throughout the semester. DON'T wait until the last minute to start.
Dr. Lawson is a fantastic professor with a passion for her work. I frequently asked her for her opinion on a few real-world communication scenarios where she gave me excellent advice that helped me reach my desired outcome. The class is a mix of rhetoric and communication combined to teach effective business communication. Take her she is awesome!
Dr. Lawson is very kind and caring. She truly loves what she teaches, but she is a pretty tough grader. At first, the semester seems pretty easy going, but don't slack off with ANY assignments because there's a huge portfolio project at the end.
Dr. Lawson is a great lecturer. She knows how to break down the material so students can relate. BCOM will be the same regardless of who your professor is. She is a tough grader but I thought the class was fair. You need to put in effort to do well. There is a group project presentati, 2 exams you can use a 1 pg cheat sheet, and a 35 page portfolio
She is the best professor I have ever had. Very friendly and funny. Her class is not boring at all. I cannot wait to take my 4300 with her.
Horribly tough grader for a class with super easy material. Tests don't make sense relative to what she teaches in class and what is found in the textbook. The lectures were boring and the grading system doesn't make sense. Had a harder time in this BCOM class than I did in my stats class.
guys, don't be fooled by the good ratings. i think professor lawson wrote them herself. she does not respond well to feedback by students and does not like to be told when she is wrong.
Easy course as long as you do the work.
