Eww... her tests are hard and we had to read 4 books and write a paper on each one. Not a very good lecturer.
Her tests are super hard, and we had to write a lot of papers. On a good note she is pretty straight up about grading. Strict on attendance
LOVE HER
Get out of this class right now
great teacher, really knows her stuff, u have to to some work but if u are not lazy, it is a very interesting class and you will learn a lot
An excellent teacher...very energetic and loves her subject. You gotta work hard, but she's supportive and you learn a lot. Go to class.
energetic at 8 in the morning. Definately a better way to start out a day. Don't let her sing. easy tests, hard papers, hard grader.
You can tell that she loves what she is doing, which really helps to get involved with the subject. Just be prepared for work....lots and lots of wok!!!
Tests are hard and she is a hard grader, but her class is very interesting and she is very clear and loves what she does.
The more you take her, the more easier it gets. I have had her for three classes now and it seems to be getting ten times easier, plus she knows who you are so she lets you get away a little more with things.
lectures like shes reading which makes class boring. but you can tell she knows what shes talking about.. She's a nice person.. but the class just sucks..not her fault though
Tests are difficult. Gives a lot of terms to memorize, but only tests on about 6.
i think she is a very nice teacher. Relates well with her students including me and she is very hot. She even has options on the type of paper you would like to write during the course make it easy for one to choose what they like.
She is very excited about the material which makes it an enjoyable classroom experience. It is somewhat frustrating studying all those terms and only getting tested on 6 of them.
Picky on papers, but awesome at what she teaches, has a passion for material and thoroughly understands it. Her enthuriasm's infectious, she's superhelpful, and I learned TONS!
Wierd woman. Complained a lot about how she was treated at SU, not sure she really wants to teach. Seemed to expect the class to teach itself a lot of the time, more stream of consciousness than you want in a HISTORY class. Hey- teach me some facts.
Walton rocks, though she is tough on grades and the exams are all essays, it doesn't matter. She has a great passion for British History and a devotion to her students. Plus she is extremely friendly and nice and loves to joke around.

A great teacher with a wonderful passion for history. She relates to everyday life and her class is never boring. Her tests are easy, however alot of material is on them. If one studies her underlined words, one will easily get an A. She does a weird yawn thing, which is annoying. Very sexy too
relatively good teacher but expects a lot from the student, only 2 exams, a few geog. quizzes & a paper to write, exams arent as bad as she makes them out to be, she is funny too, and she snorts a lot
Prof Walton is the best teacher i've ever had...hands down. She'll make you work but the content is interesting and the material isn't too difficult. She's energetic and insightful and will devote time after class to you if you need it. Awesome Prof...definately reccomend

Very interesting teacher, knows ALOT about what she teaches. Has some fun in class and doesn't try to keep it boring. If you like a class that has some fun and you still learn history, this teacher is for you. I'm def. taking her for 102
i really hate history but i would take any of her classes again. she lectures effectively & is one of those people that you learn to respect. she comes off as a hard ass but is very understanding if she can tell you're working hard. pay attention to "underlined" terms, she bases the exams on them.
Not a bad class, however you take A LOT of notes and have to read a couple books and right reaction papers on them. If she knows your trying she'll help you out a little. If your interested in history shes def. the teacher to take she knows what shes talking about.
good teacher, not too much work, but not easy
This teacher is so confusing...one minute, I'd find myself in 14th century China, the next in 17th century France...her lectures jump around and don't go chronologically, and what she says differs A LOT from the book. GOOD LUCK if you take her...
Hard woman to follow but very enthusiastic, i took my laptop to class and that helps a lot because she makes you write a lot. Map quizes are okay but the maps she gives you to study from are very unclear. Exams are hard but if you study a lot then you could get lucky. Overall, she's a hard teacher
good luck taking her. her final is cumulative and she is extremely hard. quizzes are hard and tests are hard. i guarantee you half of the class, maybe more. . .failed her tests and she talks so fast that you can't follow what she is saying when you take notes. very hard!
Prof. Walton is a great teacher. She loves history so much. The class has more than any history class I've ever had-paper, books to read, map quiz, midterm, term paper, and final but it is still really good. I definitly reccommend it!!!
I HATE THIS CLASS IT IS SO BORING SHE GOES TOO FAST. SHE IS VERY EXCITED BUT IS A BORING LECTURER. SHE CRAMS ALL THIS INFO IN YOUR HEAD AND EXPECTS YOU TO KOW IT ALL. SHE WORKS FROM POWERPOINT SLIDES THAT ARE IMPOSSIBLE TO FOLLOW. SHE CRACKS CORNY ASS JOKES. SHES NICE BUT I WOULDNT RECOMMEND HER TO A FIRST YEAR STUDENT
not a bad teacher, she just expects to much especially from a level 100 class. You can do well you just have to put forth a lot of work for her midterms and all. You need to know over 100 terms for the midterm yet you only have to define 3 of them, any random 3 she decides. All in all historys interesting but not my major so I wont take her again
she is an excellent instructor. she knows the stuff and loves the material and loves to teach it. she is extremely demanding and a tough grader, but just keep up with the work and proofread and you'll be fine. she really cares about the students, and i think her tough grading helps prepare the student for future, higher level classes.
She is really enthusiastic and keeps you awake, but be ready to do ALOT of work. You have to read 4 different books and write essays on them, have 3 geog quizes and only have 2 exams- which you study 100 IDs for and there are only 3 on the exam...U TAKE A TON OF NOTES. only take her if ur ready to work
amazing--I love this teacher, she is fun and approachable she makes the class incredibly interesting but she works your ass off, be prepared you will learn a lot
The woman is absolutely crazy...but you'll never be bored. VERY enthusiastic and willing to help you at any time, but talks absurdly fast. Only two tests and a lot of papers...hard work, but she's fair and wants you to get the most out of the class.
Demanding prof that is extremely helpful and encouraging. She knows her subject and is willing to help on her own time. If you have trouble following face-paced discussion and synthesis, avoid Walton.
shes one of the best teachers I ever had. She is tough as hell though but she keeps you on track. There is a lot of work in this class. Whenever you talk to her she'll def help you out. She's not a push over so you can't get a lot out of her, just respect her and kind of suck up and she'll like you and give you breaks.
She is very nice but class is just her speaking and you taking notes the whole time. Tests are extreamly hard, studying 100 terms and being tested on 3 with 2 essays. Hard grader, only take her if your willing to do the work
DONT TAKE HER!! test very very hard learn 100 terms has 3 on the test and they are very not important things you need to know. I think she is a ****. rambles on when talking very hard to take notes for. o and her test are all essay 2. if i could do it again and if i knew who was good and who wasnt i wouldnt have taken her.there are better teachers
I never enjoyed a class as much as hers. She is funny, and likes to have a lot of fun. But she can be very serious and is devoted to writing and reading in her class. She is a true History prof and therefore many freshmen hate her if they don't like history. If you don't like to write on exams, don't take her, but its your loss, not hers.
She's crazy! Very enthusiastic and will not hesitate to get in your face or call you out. Encourages discussion and likes to keep things interesting. Tests are essay based and cover themes discussed in class.
Very enthuastic, difficult tests. Animated speaker. The tests are all essays. If you enjoy history you will enjoy her class. If you hate history do not take her class.
She is an amazing teacher with a huge amount of enthusiasm for the subject (which you will have too by the end of her class). The material and exams can be difficult, but she makes it fun. I would definitely recommend her to anyone, but be prepared to work hard.
490 topics class was amazing. Lots of reading and one research paper, but she puts you on an equal level with her. You should only take this if you are a history major or in grad school. If you love the topic she is doing or find her to be one of the best teachers, then take it. Why I did. As long as you do your reading and paper you are fine.
I enjoyed her class a lot, but it was a ridiculous amount of notes (I would have killed for a laptop, as I was averaging six pages of notes per class in shorthand, because she goes so fast). Study, study, study, GO TO CLASS. Tests are murder, but inclass discussions are fun. Very smart and energetic; if you're a history major, you'll like her.

I am not crazy about history but she makes it interesting. I really like her, I learned a lot.
shes a great teacher. very enthusiastic.when taking notes, focus on the UNDERLINED terms. you have to read like 5 books for reaction papers, but the ones that arent in-class essays you can easily read a chapter and do fine on the paper. i hate history, but im taking her 101 next semester because i liked her so much.
She is a nice professor, however, the work load is hard to deal with. If you want an esay A, don't take this class. You have to read at least 5 books and write papers about all of them and there are 3 map quizzes that you must memorize. The midterm is tons of work to study for. I did more work in this class then all of my other classes combined.
Heavier work load than most of my other courses, and exams are tough, but her lectures are very interesting.
She knew her material and it was interesting; however, we had a Reaction Paper due every two weeks. She only gives a midterm and a final, and gives you over 100 facts to know and then you have to write only about 3 out of 6 that she picks, and then one big essay, which hard because there are so many facts in history.
She was nice and was clearly passionate about history. However, her course had a LOT of work- like a ridiculous amount, even for a history class! Take her if you like to do nothing but homework and don't need sleep for four months.
VERY VERY hard teacher. There are a LOT of assignments that need to be completed along with reading boring books and writing papers on those as well. It's an extremely hard class and she never uses powerpoints. Do not take unless you're very good at taking notes and memorizing what she says.
She is a nice teacher but the class is entirely based on powerpoints. The slides are very broad and only include key terms which she goes over extremely fast. Because of this it is hard to keep up with the notes. Overall, if you are good at memorizing you'll be fine. She is not an extremely hard grader and is pretty casual with the workload.
VERY hard teacher. She talks very very fast and it's really hard to keep up with notes. bring your computer to class to keep up and STUDY HARD. Very hard to get a good grade, but she is an amazing teacher. She loves what she does, she's extremely friendly and understanding, and she is so enthusiastic about what she does.
very nice lady. very willing to help out. I love her but her class gets a little boring. same thing everyday, long winded lecture with a few certain important terms that she identifies for you. don't expect to get off class a minute early... ever. test is based on important terms and key essay ideas. good teacher but be willing to work.
very sweet and really into history. the class wasnt hard. no tests, quizez, or homework. just 2 papers and a final project. we were epected to read 11 big novels and extra papers on the side which i did not do. far too much. it would have been a nice class if the reading was seperated differently
Good grief, what to say about Ms. Walton...well, for someone who did well in high school history, this class was stupid-hard. A lot of her grading is grammatical and illogical, even when you ask for clarification. I asked her for help once and she ignore my emails and appointment, she did not help me in the least. I would not take her again, ever.
I took her Honors class about Tudor Queens. The topic was really dry and boring but she made it interesting. DO NOT read all 11 novels. I didn't. Only two papers plus a creative project. Decent class overall.
i liked her so much i took her 310 class. Not an easy teach but knows her stuff and has a lot of enthusiasm. will also take the time to see you outside of class and give you tips for succeeding.
Her class is tough and a lot of work. Most classes u take notes for 1hr n 15minutes. Make sure u study your notes. She is willing to explain anything. Last she is a good professor
She is really into her lectures and is very interesting sometimes. You do two book reports, 2 movie papers (argumentative papers on any movie like Troy or 300) 2 exams. take notes every class, but i have skipped a few classes and managed to pull a B on my midterm. notes help A LOT. keep up with syllabus on your own! biggest lesson learned.
She is the best teacher I've had, hands down. Her upper level classes are designed like seminars and there are no exams at all. Class participation is most of our grade along with 2 papers. The way she organizes that class is very self-directed, but she's always available if you need help with anything. Seriously anything. Do your readings!
I feel like I have to give credit where credit is due. Dr. Walton is one of the best teachers I've ever had. She's enthusiastic about the subject and can help you with anything you would ever need. She expects a lot out of her upper level students, but she's still incredibly nice & fun no matter what. Take a class with her, you will not regret it.
One of the most demanding courses I've ever taken. At one point four major projects were all due within two weeks of each other. That being said, Dr. Walton was extremely helpful and always got back to you in emails quickly. She is one of those professors who is somewhat difficult, but you learn a lot from. Class gets easier as semester goes along.
Dr. Walton is difficult, but a fantastic teacher. You WILL learn in this class. Though she is a busy woman, Dr. Walton always makes time to help her students. As a History major requirement, this class and Dr. Walton's careful guidance have given me the tools to succeed.
Nice Person, not such a great teacher. Exams are essay only, and study guides are a joke. Too many out of class papers and readings for a gen-ed, especially if you have heavy course load already. Grades are never posted, and she flat out refused to calculate grades for students who asked. Would've failed w/o taking Art History at the same time
Dr. Walton is a dynamic speaker and keeps her lectures interesting. She engages the students with accents and miniature performances. This was a early English history course and she even mimed the removal of Mary Queen of Scots' head! There are not enough words to describe how amazing Dr. Walton is. If you ever have the opportunity, take her class!
Her lectures are incredibly boring. She assigns way too many papers and then never grades them on time. Her grading is tough. She takes off points for minor details that do not affect the overall quality of the work. Because she fails to give back papers on time, it's impossible to know what to do differently for future assignments.
Dr. Walton knows her stuff. She is absolutely the best professor I have ever taken for history. Only two exams and three papers and Research paper or creative project. She is very accessible outside of class. Email her anytime and she will make sure to get back to you. She is also very reasonable with grading so she wont be hard on you on the exam
Dr. Walton is an energized professor, knows alot about the subject & is passionate about it. Her lectures are fun & the books used for the class are interesting. Unfortunately, when it comes to homework and exams she treats them as if she teaches advanced English. The homework doesn't assist in learning and the exams are essay format.
Gives a lot of busy work that is not needed. The class felt extremely difficult because of the amount of work that is given. She does not give adequate amount of time to do well on the many projects she assigns. Every time I presented I felt like I did not know what I was doing or if I would do well. I regret taking this class with her.
She knows her stuff but isn't the best professor. Her grading system is terrible. She uses the check system like we are in elementary school. She takes forever to grade so you have no idea what your grade is. Busy work that isn't needed. This class is terrible and I recommend you take someone else if you can.
While Dr. Walton may not give feedback in a timely manor in all other respects she's a great professor. I would recommend taking her for your Capstone or ProSem course where she will teach you how to write an exceptional research paper. I would not recommend her for her Scottish or Eng. history courses B/C of the unnecessarily long readings & exams
Walton is exceptionally smart and loves her topic. Unfortunately, she does not return papers or any form of grade until the last minute, so there is little chance to improve. Extremely lenient, but expects a lot from people who have not learned her subject. Nice to talk to, not be graded by.
Dr. Walton really knows her stuff. There is quite a lot of reading, but she teaches upper level courses so dont be surprised because upper level courses are supposed to be rigorous. She gives really good feedback on the papers but she does take a while to give them back. She is extremely lenient with due dates and she accommodates students a lot.
She doesn't grade papers ever, and rushes through her lectures.
I've never experienced such information packed lectures, however, no lecture heavy professor has ever held my attention the same way she does. She has traveled the world and tells stories that relate to the lecture, but you'll also cover like 1000 years of history each class. You'll be asked to read so many historical novels, but they're kinda cool
worst gen ed you could take, have to read like 8 books, bad at lecturing, thats all class is, doesn't grade anything until end of semester, so you have no clue how youre doing or how to improve, expects you to read an insane amount of chapters along with books, doesnt tell you what she wants for projects and papers then takes pts off for it, hated.
One thing I did like was that she made her lectures interesting and she is clearly very knowledgeable with a lot of cool experiences. But, every was class was like 7 pages of notes and she went fast. She is not specific on what she looks for and did not hand back ANY graded work, I didnt know my grade until AFTER the final.
Walton is very knowledgeable and intelligent, and reasonably engaging for a lecturer. However, she will talk at you the whole class every class, PowerPoints are not helpful whatsoever, and she doesnt grade anything ever, After taking the final I had no clue what my grade was and had ungraded assignments from the first few weeks of school still.
While her class required alot of reading. It was very easy to participate. She was always open to answer questions and help. Dr Walton is one of my favorite professors. She was so caring and helped me get an A in her class. I wish I wasn't graduating so I could take her again. While this class was virtual she managed to get to know each student.
Her class was so much fun, at first is a little odd because its 100% verbal notes being taken and Ive never had a class like that, but shes passionate about what she teaches, really energetic at all times even when the class is dead, talks about opportunities for students, perfect balance of hard and easy, definitely looking for her class again
Extremely knowledgeable, funny, and wants students to succeed. Makes time to for students. Makes class fun, prepares you extensively for final paper.
She talks really fast during lectures and hardly gives you time to write everything done. She is very knowledgeable on the topic and is very passionate about it but does not always do the best job of explaining complex topics. There are a lot of assignments but she is a relatively fair grader, but grades really slow.
Dr. Walton was the professor who helped guide me into the History program and I couldn't have asked for a better professor. She is extremely knowledgeable and helpful. Although she is a slow grader, to make up for it she will let you turn work in late as long as you talk with her beforehand. She is also very funny and just a genuinely kind person.
Dr. Walton is massively overqualified to teach at SU. She belongs at an Ivy League. Her lectures were informative, passionate, and entertaining, and she was so kind and helpful all semester. My only gripes were long grading times and the unclear grading rubrics on a few assignments. If you love history, take her course!
