The class is taught at a level much higher than 1001, her content is very difficult for beginners. She also didn't teach, she expected you to learn the language out of your textbook with no real teaching or guidance from her. Bad class:(

After the first week of class, Dr. Hislope becomes very snide, rude, and snappy. Her lectures are super dull, and she just reads out of the book, which is also not very helpful. Some weeks, we were assigned 2 or more hours of homework. The oral exam was easy. However, as for the other exams and quizzes, I will not say the same.

It is so easy, but if you haven't taken spanish before in high school you might need to study more. Participate in class and do the homework and you'll be fine. She gives perfect guidelines/study guides for her exams. I don't study for this class at all and I have a high A. It's really easy.

I am not good at Spanish but this teacher was able to help me learn. Would take her again. She is very funny. Her grading makes it possible to not be the best at Spanish and still get a good grade.

She is a very tough grader and expects you to know way more than most do in a beginners course. She isn't helpful when you contact her about a concern- she just directs you back to the textbook or essentially says "too bad". Not to mention, the extra credit activities are TWO hours long and only worth ONE point. Do not take her!!!

2 hours of extra credit only counts for 1 point, and you can only get 1 point a week no other extra credit is offered and she is a very tough grader and expects you to know more than what she covered in class. The class work takes hours to do and counts for nearly nothing.Very hard to make an A or B in class unless you are nearly fluent in spanish.

Dr. Hislope is an amazing teacher. If you're brand new to spanish, do NOT take her. As someone who has been in 4 years of spanish, it was great, but my classmates who were not, struggled heavily. She is funny and kind, but the only issue I had was the workload. You have have a few hours of homework every week, but it is not overly difficult.

Professor Hislope has been my spanish teacher for 2 semesters. I thoroughly love the spanish language, and she was always more than willing to meet up and go over anything I was confused with. During meetings, she was gentle and patient with my questions. She gives great feedback when you take initiative and show that you want to learn do well.
