She has a very interesting class. She is very interesting and I made a lot of connections and friends in this class because of her. She is very critical on grading papers, but the tests are straightforward and you can make up for the toughness there. Would recommend.
Dr. Schaller is an amazing professor. She takes some warming up to get used to, but give her a chance and you'll surely enjoy her class. She is very caring and knowledgeable. Her presentations are applicable and she brings humor to the classroom every day. Dr. Shaller is a model professor who is well respected.
Schaller is a great teacher. She's there when you need her or have questions. Tests are medium in difficulty. You have to go to class and do the small one or two point assignments she asks. It's a point system and each point you don't do equals one point higher you have to make on a test to get the grade you want.
If you have the chance, TAKE DR. SCHALLER'S CLASS. She is so awesome. She really knows her material, and her lectures are entertaining while you actually soak in the material. Homework is not bad at all--workbook pages and reading. My favorite class I've had at UGA, and I hope to take a class with her again.
You have to raise $1,000 for a local non-profit with your group, and that was the hardest thing I've ever had to do. Don't take this class if you don't like fundraising. Besides that project, I learned a lot about small group communication, and she was very helpful at explaining the concepts. She makes you work hard!
Dr. Schaller is my favorite teacher I've taken at UGA so far. She makes the material, which would otherwise be trivial, very interesting and relatable. The course is extremely easy. We only had two tests and a non-cumulative final. She is a super sweet lady who has a great sense of humor. I would suggest her to anyone who has to take a COMM course.
I really enjoyed Dr. Schaller's class. She is very knowledgeable and is very interesting too. The tests are easy as long as you read the textbook (there will be one or two questions that only the book will answer, not the notes) and study the notes one or two nights before. There will be some group work but it is not terrible.
Dr. Schaller's class was pretty easy and interesting. Homework is easy and takes about 5 min an assignment. Tests are fairly easy and the final is not cumulative. I would recommend this class for an easy A.
She's one of the nicest professors I've had, and as long as you read the chapters before the test, it's an easy A. The lectures aren't super important, but they're interesting
Dr. Schaller's class isn't all that hard so long as you put in a little effort. Sometimes what's going to be on exams isn't completely clear, but they're not all that difficult Stay on her good side and you should be good to go.
Love this class! Take her if you can. You will have some group work, and lots of workbook pages of h/w but they don't take more than 5 mins. She's low-key funny and the class was relatable and always put me in a better mood. She's very caring. Take her!
She has great reviews, but she was pretty bitter throughout the semester. She is not the most confident professor (something she admits), so I often felt as if she used our class as a captive audience to talk through personal issues. Her tests are fair but have many "gray area" questions. Nice lady, but I would think twice before taking her.
Professor Schaller was my favorite professor I've had at UGA so far. She is extremely sweet and caring about her students and provides good feedback for the assignments you do. You do not have to put in much work for this class besides the few group projects. If you have the chance definitely take her for this course!
Class setup revolves around presentations , briefings and group activity's . Exams are worth 60 percent but she hardly goes over any material during class and is based on statistics from presentations , book readings and other activities that is a nuisance . Overall not the best experience I had but made the class MUCH harder than it needed to be.
She seems to not care about her students. She has no issue with giving students failing grades. She selects certain students who she favors and awards them high grades and has no issue failing every other student. I would not recommend taking this professor.
The amount of times I have cried over this class is insane. She is extremely unclear about what she wants and knows that. It is very difficult to please her.
Easy A. Go to class in order to log in to attendance online. Tests are almost all definitional so just read the book and make a quizlet the day before and you'll make an A. One group project at the end but it's easy. Schaller is funny and down to earth. Would take her again for sure
She is a great professor and overall really helps you understand the material. As long as you listen and take good notes, you will do good in the class. There is a group project in the end, but it isn't hard.
Dr. Schaller has a really good heart and truly cares about her students. Although, she teaches with an incredible liberal bias and brings politics into most discussions (more like rant). Her lectures are very boring and class time is wasted doing busy work. It's an easy grade I guess but a waste of time.
Dr. Schaller is just one of those professors who really cares about her students and wants them to succeed! She is very clear with her expectations, and is always available and happy to help. I learned so much in her class and would recommend her COMM 1550 class to anyone!
Dr. Schaller was an amazing teacher. I wish that I could have her every semester! She makes everyone in my class feel as though we are a family. She is a true gem.
I took this class in the summer and it was one of the best college courses I have ever experienced! As the days went by, the class become a family and we all became more comfortable with speaking. The teaching style and practices were really useful and by the end of the class, I became a much better speaker!
Dr. Schaller is by far the best professor I've had at UGA. She really cares about her students and makes you a competent communicator. The tests were fair and were over lecture and the textbook, so you actually have to read to get those questions right. One group project, 3 tests, and WB pages and attendance. She's the best, seriously.
Dr. Schaller is a good professor for an interesting class. The honors section has no tests or quizzes and is graded over attendance and two group projects which are pretty simple. The majority of the class is group presentations so she doesn't really teach.
Dr. Schaller is one of my favorite teachers I've had all of college. She takes time to know every single student's name. She explains things very well and loves discussion, so speak up in class! She doesn't post much online, so if you go to class and take notes from the slides then you will be fine. Very approachable and kindhearted. Love her!
She's a really great professor. I took her class during freshco and it was definitely the best class I took during the summer. The class was fun and overall pretty easy. Dr. Schaller also really cares about her students. Definitely take her class if you can!
Dr. Schaller is a great professor, she cares deeply for her students and adjusts her teaching strategies based off of student feedback. The class itself is also really interesting and is very book heavy. A bulk of the grade comes from writing chapter outlines. The book is easy to read though, outlines would take me 2 hours.
Dr. Schaller is one of my favorite professors I've had! She really cares about her students and is always there to help with academic or personal problems. The class itself was easy, especially this semester as she understood online class is difficult. Definitely you have to read the textbook and participate in class, but overall it is easy and fun
TAKE HER! She is the nicest professor I've ever met and she is so kind, caring and really great at teaching. She is very flexible and understanding and will always help out students. The course isn't hard at all and just make sure to get the assignments done. Just talk to her whenever you have a problem and she will be happy to help
Gives 3 weekly assignments and quizzes and no exams. Super easy assignments most of the time as long as you do it right you get a 100. Would so take again didn't have zoom meetings and just did some light reading in the text book. One of the easiest classes I have ever taken and such a gpa booster. One group project at the end thats super easy.
Dr. Schaller is an amazing professor. She is so personable and applies real-life situations to her lecture content.
You need to show up in order to do well in the class but thats about it. Discussions are interesting in class. Tests are fair just need to study 2-3 hours. Especially for an hours class, this is a must.
Dr. Schaller is super caring and truly wants everyone to do well. Some parts of class are kind of annoying with busy work and the readings, but you will do well. I would recommend reading before the exams and reviewing her slides, but you don't need to do too much.
Extremely rude professor. Takes our personal misery on students.
A lot of busy work and she's pretty rude. Takes our personal issues on students.
Rude and gives busy work. Lectures are boring and this class is a true waste of time. Students shouldn't have to deal with attitudes from someone teaching a class about "professionalism".
I like her she is a good teacher and the tests are easy and straight forward if you take notes from the slides in class. my only complaint is she can be a little political and definitely shares her views a lot and it can be kind of awkward. the class itself I would definitely take again. also go to class bc you can only miss 2 which sucks
Dr. Schaller knows what she is talking about and clearly cares about the subject matter. Most days of class you will have a workbook page due that takes maybe 15 minutes to do. Tests are in person but not difficult as long as you study a little bit. Attendance is required but the class is interesting enough that it is not a drag to go.
Dr. Schaller is super nice and easy to get along with. Though lectures are not super informative and you'll be doing most of the actual learning on your own, it's a super interesting class with even better discussions.
Dr. Schaller is super nice and cares a lot about her students. She advocates for participation because she genuinely wants to hear what you have to say. The grading criteria is very straightforward and all you have to do is just show up and do the homework to get a good grade in the course.
Get ready to memorize every powerpoint slide and textbook paragraph. Every single test is short answer / fill in the blank. All tests are composed of "List the 5 criteria for _______", and
Goated professor, and is very understanding of student situations
Dr. Schaller is an amazing professor. She cares for her students, and she is very approachable if there is an issue or question. Tests can be more difficult, so studying is a must. Easy class activities.
I love this class! She is a very caring professor and wants you to succeed. She is very understanding, but the reading is boring because it is all common sense. I would definitely take this class again!
Dr. Schaller is super nice, laid back, and helpful. The class was easy and straightforward and the tests were on the information she lectured on in class. Not lots of assignments and just a few tests. Highly recommend her, she goes out of her way to make sure her students are comfortable and builds relationships with them.
She is very open about her personal life, but she ties it well into what she's teaching.
The group project and IPC paper will help carry your grade, the tests are not too hard and Dr. Schaller is a good lecturer.
This class was fairly interesting, but most of the material seemed pretty basic/common sense to me. She was clear about expectations for assignments and graded fairly. Class is almost always discussion-based, where we'd talk about the material we read in the textbook. She's a kind, knowledgeable professor that I'd recommend, especially for honors.
I enjoyed having Dr. Schaller as a professor- class is mostly discussion based with a few group presentations. Most of the content is common sense but the exams can be pretty hard, read the textbook carefully. She is very caring and makes an effort to build relationships with students, very open about her personal life and funny.
Very nice person, and gives a lot of examples from her personal life which makes classes interesting. Class is basically just kids talking about their experiences which is fun but you don't actually learn much. Because of this, the tests are tough. You just have to read the textbook as everything comes out of there. Good class, would reccomend.
Professor Schaller is one of the most unprofessional teachers I think I have ever met. Not only did she yell at our entire class, but she has attitude and disrespects you if you talk to her about anything. She is not flexible and genuinely seems to hate her life and her job. AVOID TAKING HER AT ALL COSTS
I loved this class! She got rid of tests and we were graded on a few five minuet presentations and creating discussion questions. She is so sweet and genuinely makes an effort to know you. I like how open she is about her life. She is very strict on grammar though for the presentations, so make sure your slides have no mistakes. I would recommend!
Dr. Schaller is truly wonderful. She really cares about her students personally and academically, and will go out of her way to help you if you need it. She also has a good sense of humor and our discussions were always interesting. I can't recommend her enough!
I'm still not sure how I felt about this class. It was pretty easy, but Dr. Schaller either is in a great mood or isn't there is no in-between. It also seems like most of the class was taught by students giving presentations on the material. She only lectured probably 10-15 times during the semester. You also get out of class early a lot.
Dr. Schaller is a great professor who cares about her students. Throughout her lectures, she often tells stories that relate to the topic from her personal life or asks students for comparisons. There is a group project near the beginning of the class that helps you connect with others. Overall, students should get an A with some effort.
Favorite professor I've ever had. She's real, funny, respectful, & actually teaches you valuable things. Went through a ton during the year, she was beyond accommodating & comforting. She has high standards, but she is so down to earth & caring. She is LEGIT, & I will miss her & her class. She's a really good person. Take her class, y'all.
Mandatory attendance, even if you show up 5 minutes late to class you will be marked absent. Constantly in a bad mood and makes it known. Comm1500 is not an easy class with her, and her tests are in person, 50 questions strictly on the textbook, her slides don't even cover some of the tests. I'd suggest taking any other teacher for this class.
Not sure why there are so many 5 star reviews. She is straight up rude when you try to talk to her and sometimes yells at the entire class like we're still in middle school. AVOID AVOID AVOID!
This was the second class I have taken with Dr. Schaller and I really enjoyed having her again. She is a strict grader and expects a lot out of her students, but if you follow her instructions closely and engage with the course material, she will reward you for it. I will really miss having her class!
Professor Schaller was extremely knowledgeable about the topics in this class and related many of the concepts to her own life experiences often engaging the class and students to participate themselves. Tests are heavy on memorization of specific points from the textbook that are sometimes not covered in class. A few hours of studying should do.
Dr. Schaller was either in good or bad mood during classes there was really no in between. The content of the class is not difficult but be sure to read the textbook before exams because the lecture slides only cover so much. There was one group project and one paper which will help boost your grade. Overall, this class was just okay.
15 question quizzes about once a week based off the textbook/lectures so sorta specific but also common sense. 1 project and 1 essay. Attendance wasn't mandatory and she is incredibility forgiving, she cares about every single student. Lecture and content is quite interesting as she's good at engaging with the class.
I took her during the summer and she gave us two attempts on every test. She cares about not only how you are doing in the class but also how you are doing personally. She is kind and a good lecturer, she answers questions and gives great examples. I would recommend taking for whatever you can.
Professor Schaller is an amazing teacher. The class is based on 11 quizzes, over each textbook chapter and taken after reading and lecturing each chapter. I was never stressed about this class as she is also super understanding and easy to talk to. Her teaching environment is super friendly.
she's just okay. a lot of quizzes, and you need to read the textbook to do well on the quizzes. 2 presentations that she's strict about. she can have an attitude and be kind of rude. she wasn't horrible but i wouldnt take her again
Nice professor, cares a lot about her students and keeps discussions active. The honors class had no tests or essays, just Tophat assignments and quizzes. Attendance was somewhat mandatory but not always. 1/3 of your grade is a two-day long presentation where you basically teach the class. Easy A, much easier than normal interpersonal class.
Really interesting person, either extremely pissed off and mad or really nice. If she does not like you or you dont show up to class she will make sure it is known and that not only you know but the whole class knows. Bunch of meaningless work for the entire semester until last month which has a group presentation and indivdiual presentation
Really moody teacher can have a very negative presence at times for no reason, basically a public speaking class honestly, no notecards and very minimal wording on slides when presenting you are bascially standing in front of the class giving a speech for 12 minutes, if you look at slides or don't make eye contact with class SHE WILL GIVE you a 0
If you are a introvert or dont like public speaking your in for a long semester buddy, presentations and btw no notecards and basically nothing on your powerpoints really straight from memory basically a speech for 20 minutes
The class consists of lectures every day. Most all material seems like common sense and not overly difficult. No tests, just 15-question quizzes every week over each unit. Quizzes can be tough- just read over the textbook and you will be fine. Attendance is not mandatory- but it helps to do well on quizzes. Overall easy class, just kind of boring.
I loved her class. Make sure to participate and attend class. The lectures were long but I thought they were interesting, she was really good at keeping students engaged. She is easy to talk to and wants to know how you're doing, definitely take her class.
She does a great job keeping students engaged during lectures and provides examples. There was only 9 15 questions quizzes, and they were pretty straightforward. A lot of the material is common sense. She is caring and gives grace if anything comes up.
Show up, pay attention, and do your work and you will do good. She does not put up with goofing around/not doing your work.
Professor Schaller's class is pretty easy as long as you know the big ideas of each topic! There is no tests, only 11 chapter quizzes with 20 questions, one group project, and online hw! She is sweet most of the time and sometimes funny. She can also be 100% moody and rude if you catch her on her bad day!
She can be very nice but also very rude in a matter of seconds. She has mood swings and when you ask questions and if she is not in a good mood, she will be very disrespectful towards you. There are no exams, just chapter quizzes. Honestly if you just go to class and read the chapter you're fine, just try to interact as little as possible with her.
Dr. Schaller is pretty moody. The class consists of 11 quizzes that are 15 questions that you will do just fine on if you read the textbook, some online homework, and a group project that is worth a lot of your grade. Attendance is only mandatory if there is an in class activity (which is on the syllabus) and during the project work days.
Dr.Schaller was a very knowledgable professor and had a straight forward class. Her syllabus has all the days that you are required to come to class. The quizzes are very easy as long as you review the slides and textbook. Group project was very easy as long as you put a little effort in it. Assignments were on TopHat and were very simple.
Dr. Schaller was super nice and understanding about most things. Reviews on here say that she's mean and rude which is not always the case. The ones that think that are the ones who talk during class and do not pay attention. Class was mainly made up of 11 quizzes and TopHat activities. Attendance only mandatory on class activity days.
Dr. Schaller is mindful of your time outside of class, so she is understanding of family emergencies/circumstances or just sickness in general. Class is primarily taught lecture-style from your classmates and is tested upon through chapter quizzes and a partner assignment. Attendance/participation taken through TopHat. Would recommend Dr. Schaller!
The class itself isn't difficult but Dr. Schaller's mood seeps into the lectures of the day. If you're someone who goes to class to listen and not to raise your hand for every question she'll make you WELL aware of her annoyance. Quizzes are textbook-heavy, Tophat is easy, attendance only mandatory on some days, choose group members carefully.
I was in the honors section for interpersonal and what I heard from my friends taking the regular section for the same class, the honors class was easier. So.....tells you all you really need to know.
TopHat assignments every week, attendance only on quiz days, group project, and activity days. The content is mostly common sense. The professor is moody. She's sassy and sarcastic. There was one huge group project, and she's a tough grader with no clear guidelines, so you're treading on thin ice. Lecture slides are posted on eLC.

I LOVE DR. SCHALLER! She was very funny, inclusive, and open. Very well organized. Weekly TopHat assignments for each unit. Weekly quizzes. Majority of grade relies upon a 2-day group project where you teach the class a textbook unit. READ THE TEXTBOOK FOR EACH CHAPTER! Overall, easy and interesting course thanks to her. Take her before she retires
I loved this class and Dr. Schaller. She can be intimidating at first but she is very approachable and willing to help if you just talk to her. If you go to class and look over notes and slides you'll pass.
She sets up the class so students teach it for most of the year while she facilitates discussion. She tends to be kind and fair, but her views are extremely apparent and she will debate you during "class discussion" if you disagree with her. Overall, I enjoyed this class more than I thought I would, but it's nothing spectacular.
I loved Dr. Schaller's class! Attendance was only mandatory during group project days, and most of the class was just lecture and a little in-class participation. If you at least skim the textbook and pay attention to lecture you'll do fine!
