Great teacher! dont miss class. take good notes
Class was fairly interesting and covered areas of the world rarely discussed. I felt that the required reading was a bit questionable and she allowed her political views to effect her lectures too much. I.E. Read anti Bush poetry in class!Often expressed a bleak view of religion in class.
Do not take this teacher...not helpful! Very vague.
DONT TAKE HER !!!! She is very lazy and does not have the students best interest at heart.Questions from her tests come from nowhere and lectures are not very helpful.
Questions are from ?????????????
This teacher's test questions make no sense even after viewing all the tapes and reading ALL the chapters. She is nice but not good at letting you know what direction she is going!
HER LECTURES DO NOT HELP AT ALL!!! I STUDIED FOR TESTS AND DID THE READINGS, I KNEW WHAT I WAS TALKING ABOUT AND SHE STILL FAILED ME. NOT INTERESTED IN THE STUDENTS WELL BEING
8 week class is fast and you need more time to read, her tests are essay format and there are a couple of mutlitple choice, its kinda blah to me
I love history, and I love that teacher. This class is very interesting, open my eyes. This teacher is not easy, but if you like reading and have no problem with writing essays take her.
She is a good teacher, however it clear that she is pretty ****, but that doesnt stop her from having a fun personality. I do dread the exams though
Wonderfull teacher. She gives a wonderfull new prospective on US history. Truly loves the subject and is a very fair grader. If one takes good notes and reads the books, an A should be fairly easy.
She is a great teacher I really liked her, but she only gave me a c so I dont know..
Amazingly bad. Lectures sounded good, yet much not on tests.Studied hard(A student),got A's and B's on tests/assigns,yet got C! Last paper turned in on day of finals(well researched, much time/effort)so grade must have gotten negative F to get C. PS-2nd time I took this class; dropped out after first week cuz I smelled a rat.Shoulda stayed away...
she was a pretty cool teacher i didnt work as hard as i could of and i never read the book and barely read my notes, but i did all the hw an extra credit and ended up, with a C, if i would of actually tried i could of got an A, so i dont get why all these people think she is so hard
Prof. Woods is an outstanding teacher who just wants all of her studets to have a clear understanding of history and its effects on modern times. She's not an easy A ( but if that is what you are looking for u really shouldn't be in college). Last, just do all of the readings and homework and youu will be fine. "Watch out for that first test!!!!"
I Read all assignments and took all test but still remain to be lost. I did my own research plus the two books and I still didnt see questions from the book on the test. I think we needed more lecture time. alsoshe should review before test not after. very confusing!!!
Professor Wood is a great teacher, but she needs to give better preperation for tests. Other than that she is a great teacher with a good sense of humor.

Dr. Woods is a very educated professor, but it seems like she expects the students to know what she knows. Quizes are Impossible because she lectures about the reading assignment after you take the quiz. If you want to learn and dont mind getting a B or C take her class. Otherwise...
She is a nice person. I asked for help after I messed up on the midterm and she gladly helped the only thing that was hard for me was to remember dates and names and that is required because the test are essay questions. you really have to study which is what your supposed to do anyway. good thing is that she throws out extra credit all the time.
Woods is all lecture, test, 3 short papers and 1 group project. She will answer questions and is usually pretty leniant if you talk to her. After the first test, the rest is a breeze (she gives the essay topics ahead of time)
She is great! Just make sure your group presentation is done way before the due date. Make sure that you have a good a team and nobody slacks off. Lecture is very informative and in depth. Exams are hard, but if you study the book/notes you should pull a high C or B! Has a passion for teaching.
Just got done taking the class, grades arnt back yet and I am pretty sure I failed. Her lectures dont match up with any of the test questions and for some reason while she is on a topic, some how some way she tends to bring in African Culture and or subject of slavery, When its a world civilizations class. I dont suggest taking her
HARD CLASS, she makes you work for your grade. However she is a good teacher. Take her if you are a hard worker, if not, your going to fail. Make sure you STUDY!
Great Teacher. Really knows her stuff. Tough Cookie, but she's actually pretty nice and definitely knows what she's talking about.
Very nice personally but tests had nothing to do with lecture, required extra reading about slavery redundant-should have been assigned to an african american studies course. Also her grading is very strict and unfair. Do not suggest taking her class!!!
Prof. Woods is a good prof. She seems really know her stuff, but her lecture is pretty boring though. The test is not bad, but the quiz is kinda hard. Make sure u go over the notes before the tests cuz she sometimes pulls out unpredictable question on the tests. Requires lotsa reading. There's no final exam in the winter term! =]
This is class is okay. but you have to do the work for it. You must do the presentative, read the book and study for the test. Her lecture does not have anything to do with the test. She is very helpful and funny.
Dr. Woods is the bomb teacher. If you want to know about african american history. She is the best one to take.
Prof. Woods, history 06, Is a course in which you could easily fall behind if you did not take good notes during lectures. But, we hit it off and I enjoyed talking to her. She was easy to talk to and fun. I enjoyed the class.
Took HIS 2 online with Dr. Woods. Very intelligent person, knows her subject very well...with that said, she is a HORRIBLE teacher. Tests were mis-graded, emails were ignored, and it was very difficult to FIND assignments, she would place them in various places, with differing instructions...
History 2 online, Fall 2008- This was the worst instructor. I had assignments turned in from SEP and OCT STILL not graded the day the semester ended. Didnt answer questions and over 1/2 the class dropped. Had she graded assts on time, I would have dropped too before the deadline.
Dr. Woods teaching methods are that of her political views, Socialized. I got a C on everything from tests to papers. I also new another student that got an F on one of her exams and she ended up with a C over all in the class. Her lectures barley cover the test questions and her methods of teaching are very Marxist, but not a horrible teacher.
Very nice teacher and knows her stuff but reaaaal hard to keep up with. Her quizzes appear hard because in order to pass them you must read a 25 page chapter! She lectures alot but her lectures have nothing to do with the readings, so you tend to get lost! If History is not a subject that interests you, DO NOT take her!!
i want a refund
worst teacher i have ever had, whatever she says in class has nothing to do with the whats going to be on any quiz or test, never emails back, useless teacher you spend more time reading the book and for what its like 30pgs a chapter. needs to be fired!!!! ASAP
Took this course online. I found this course to demand lots of time. There are 2 assignments for each chapter including a discussion board post. The course was only 6 weeks and she procrastinated on grading until the last week. If you have plenty of time to dedicate and can figure things out on your own, you will be fine.
Dr. Woods is a very knowledgable professor. Her classes are not so much hard but time consuming. It is true that you must read 30+ pages of dense history every week, but it is a college class. Overall I am convinced that Dr. Woods is an asset to RCC.
In 2 years at RCC, she is the worst professor I have ever had. First off, the work is confusing and the instructions are scattered through many different page links. As confusing as it is, she procrastinates the grading until the last week so you don't know what you did wrong. After you find out all your work was wrong there is no make ups. WOODS=F
Dr. Woods was one of the best professors I've taken at RCC, she knows her material well. What's tough about this class is doing all the reading, and making sure you are writing well enough. It's definitely not an easy A, but it's a very enlightening class.
Overall Dr. Woods is a good professor. She is extremely helpful and constantly explains assignments and answers questions. The only downfall is the online chapter quizzes. They can be really difficult and even after tons of notes and reading you may not pass the pass/fail setup. Sounds to me like some bitter folk. Do the work and you will do fine.
So she is a professor now. Amazing, and horrible. Worst teacher at RCC "Seriously". If you learned anything in high school do not take this woman. When i took her, for hist6, she turned this class into a history of slavery in America, and that nothing but slavery occured at this time. How the Founder of the nation are Terrorists, look out people!
I will agree with WOODS=F.She is by far the worst professor I have ever had. Dr. Woods procrastinates with handing back quizzes, exams and document summaries. Leaving you no time to see what you misunderstood. She expects you write as if you are a scholar from HARVARD or something. If i taught history for 14 years i would know the book too... #F+
I loved History 14: African American History with Dr. K. Woods. She has expectations and standards but that is never a bad thing--arn't prof. suppose to have those. Honestly, if you don't like the way she teaches, DROP! It would make the experience a lot more pleasurable for those who WANT to learn and adapt. Aside from that, she is a slow grader.
It's TWO DAYS after the deadline for prof. to submit grades and she has not posted grades yet. Kinda of unprofessional in my opinion.
Took it online over summer while working full-time and taking another class. I'm sure it would have been fine if I had nothing to do, but there were too many required assignments. Would have preferred three or four big tests to over 20 assignments that were just busy work. I forget, am I sixth grader or a college student?
Took her online course and had to write more in this class than my English-1B class. On top of that she grades very strict, so if you miss one small detail you will loose points on every assignment. Overloading students with work is not an effective way to learn, that said I don't recommend her at all.
Be prepared to speak and offer your full unyielded opinion in her class. She makes you work hard, read alot, and do research. She is a good teacher and offers new perspective on history. However, she seems to play favorites or grade down if you don't really agree with her. So be prepped to brownnose and communicate in/out of class.
She's not so bad. As long as you keep up with the text and do the homework you'll be more than prepared for the tests. Her lecture is interesting and her political views only add to the entertainment. Take her, she's rad.
It was an honors class, but it was pretty easy. Her lectures were always enjoyable and interesting too. She's really bad on grading things though and getting them back to you in time, plus sometimes she wasn't very clear. But if you talk to her and keep up with your grade, you should pass with a C or better. She's a very smart woman.
Online class..Very demanding. A lot of writing and reading. However if History is what interests you this class is great. She is a strict grader so write well. Don't take an online class if you don't expect to work!
There is no doubting that Prof. Woods is an extremely intelligent woman. I didn't exactly enjoy this course, but I liked her personally. She's a tough grader but I don't know if that's because this was an honors course or not. If you start having problems with the class, just go and talk to her. She is very accomodating. This is NOT an easy A.
I took Woods in the Winter for His-2 along with Spe-1 with Romero and Pol Sci-1, and I was able to get A's in all of them, Woods class was difficult for me because I had two other classes to worry about. She had a lot of work, but it was do-able, and there were a lot of points calculated in the end, so if you miss one assignment, its not a big deal
This class is ALL writing, we had 7 one to two page papers and both exams were essay-based. After 4 months of her class I'm not really sure what I learned...She's a nice woman and it's an interesting class, can't say it's particularly easy or hard...
she has a cool personality but really this class is all about reading on your own and she gives quizzes every once a week. her lectures has nothing to do with the quizzes and she gives random grades in my opinion. i wouldnt take her for another class or if you have a lot of other hard classes. dont slack off if you take it.
i would pass on taking her again. wish i would have read the comments before i took her.
Fun class. strange format, students doing presentation was most of the lecturing, but when she does lecture she makes the subject interesting. only two tests (midterm and final) and bother were easy. most of grade was from short essays you can turn in at your leisure. I would recomend this class if you need a couple more credits for FA
I did not enjoy this class. Dr. Woods is cool as a person, but she's a grading Nazi and your grade is based all on those writings. I swear she only actually talked/lectured once all semester. You read at home then go to class and do nothing.
Took a 6 week summer course and it had as much work as a 16 week course. Not hard but numerous assignments and harsh grading. Lengthy assignments were worth 3 points which meant missing even 1 got you a D. No professor participation. She started grading halfway through semester. I graduated RCC with a 3.9, but her grade will likely be a C or D
do not take this teacher.Grades harsh does not grsde assignment till halfway through.Alot of writing take someone else please.I had a 3.8 GPA before her. Does not respond to emails for weeks. You might have assignments turned in too late to fix work
WORST.PROFESSOR.EVER. You're either giving too much information or not enough information on your assignments. You would prly be better off copying the book word for word. There are less than 3 weeks left in the course and she has barely started to grade assignments from SEPTEMBER!Would not recommend this class to anyone!!!
The work is extremely easy, but its very very tedious... She takes forever to grade. By the time you start getting feedback on assignments you've already submitted 6+, all of which will get marked down for stuff that could have been corrected had she been more vigilant with her grading. Take her if you don't mind tedium, otherwise steer clear.
Took online. Wrote more than Eng 1A. If you are not willing to write quite a bit, don't take her. She takes a while to grade. you have to realize she is teaching 5 classes. I got an A, but it was, again, quite a bit of writing.
This professor is absolutely useless. She is rude in her corrections. She assigns an obscene amount of work but takes weeks and weeks to grade it. This means that there is no opportunity to make corrections to future assignments before it is due. I would not recommend her EVER to any student.
I really loved taking Dr. Wood's class. There were quizzes and several writing assignments that really helped me to apply the facts in history to my own life. She shows videos as well, which helped me to get a real visual of the past. She gives great feedback, although it took a while. There is a lot of work, but I took a lot from it and got an A.
I would not recooment taking this xlass. She assigns a great deal of assignments and takes a long time to grade them leaving you with no possible way to judge your progress in the class or your need to drop by necessary deadlines. She is rude and all over the place with her grading!
Rude, useless professor. Takes weeks and weeks to grade lengthy assignments. No way to gage whether you're completing assignments to her liking until it's too late. She takes weeks to respond to emails and is rude as well as short when she does. Should reconsider her teaching abilities. Do NOT recommend this professor whatsoever.
DONT TAKE HER IF YOU WANNA PASS THIS CLASS
I took a hybrid course with professor woods and I had to drop after 3 weeks. Very unhelpful and one of the rudest instructors I have ever met. Her feedback was nothing more than a quick jab at your work with nothing helpful that you can try to fix in your next paper. In the classroom she might seem like a nice lady, but she is very rude online.
This class is hard, there's no homework and lecture is based on talking about social issues. It's a fun class but you will have to study. She doesn't go over anything on the test in lecture and she's always late with grading. She's a very smart woman but she's a tough grader. This is not an easy A
This class requires a lot of writing and analytical thinking, but for the most part it's easy, yet time consuming. Make sure to carefully read the directions for assignments so you know your doing it correctly! There are no exams, but the final is 3 essays so be prepared!
This was the hardest class I've taken so far. Every person in our class failed the first exam and she didn't even go over it to help us do better on the next one. Somehow after bombing all of my tests I still passed with a C. I think she had a change of heart in the end because I stuck it out. Not recommended because it lowered my gpa.
Professor Woods is a fun person... but a horrible professor. She is always smiling and cracking jokes, but she does not teach you anything. I took a hybrid course, and she was very unclear with what was due online and the tests were ridiculous. The final was a truefalse test, and it was so unclear! Horrible class! Nice teacher, but horrible class!
most unprofessional professor i have ever had. did not follow any dates or the grading scale on syllabus, gets off topic on EVERY lecture on stuff that has nothing to do with what is suppose to be covered in class, tests are based off how she imagines her lectures will go but never actually covers whats on the test, did not give back 1 assignment
Dr. Woods is amazing! I took her Honors 7H after being out of school for nearly a decade. I can say that this class was writing intensive (no tests), which I was initially terrified of as I HATED writing in high school. She gave amazing feedback and pushed me to become a better writer. You read 6 books, but you see history in a different light.
She's not a good professor but she's nice I don't like her style
She's very nice, but I can say without a doubt she's not the best teacher. She talks more about what's going on currently rather than actual history. Not a hard class though.
This is one Professor that leaves you feeling as if you missed something, though it can be hard to determine what with the erratic flow of the class.
booyyyy do i wish i listened to the ratings!! she is kind, but not the best professor. she expects every little detail. she is so confusing, never mentioned what chapters we were on. she does not have the best teaching skills. we were supposed to have 3 exams and 3 quizzes, yet she only did one of each. trust me, you don't wanna take her.
DONT TAKE HER
Professor Woods is a really great teacher. I personally have no interest in History at all, but I was actually able to stay interested in her online class. As long as you do the weekly video responses you will pass. It honestly wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be at all.
In order to pass, you must be able to read, memorize, and write the material. The exams are subjective and require you to answer with definitions or responding to a particular event. The class lectures were basically 10% testable material and 90% gossip so if you're not able to self-teach then you might not do well.
She is the best. I took History 14 & 15 and I learned so much. If you didn't pass this class you didn't study. I Received an A for both classes. I am 61 years old and haven't been to school for over 40 years and I did great. Professor Woods is not giving you a A for doing nothing. Some students never did the easy assignments and expected to pass.
I will say this. Dr. Woods is great ! She really cares about what she is teaching. I enjoyed class time and all that I learned, but in my opninion, I didnt feel like what we talked about or went over was in the few test we took. Few response papers, quizzes every two chapters, but lots of laughs. Youll need to read to pass.
The class was a little bit disorganized. She didnt follow the syllabus. We didnt take some of the tests we were scheduled to take. Her lectures are amazing. She got a little off topic but answered every and any question every student had. Her lectures were hard hitting and really made you think. She is so impressive and so well informed.
Professor Woods is an excellent teacher. I advise any students needing to take Black History to attend her class. You will be able to learn so much and she makes herself available to help you.
