She's extremely unclear in her directions and expects you to do things exactly to what she wants. Ask her to explain and you'll come away more confused. She has a habit of sending emails before class changing what she wants turned in the next morning & she may decide your work isn't worth grading.

Professor Bruzenak was a HORRIBLE teacher.She didn't know what she was doing and all the projects were the same. It was a waste of $2,000 dollars. She was very unclear and unorganized. I had her the first year she was teaching and obviously she still doesn't know what she is doing.

she hasn't been to bad yet, just do exactly what she says, and check your email and blackboard everynight and you should be ok, she can be sarcastic, but if you ask her what she means she will tell you, she is all about communication, you have to ask her questions, communicate and you should be ok

LAME. She's crazy, unorganized, unithusiastic and an overall poor quality teacher, but she does know what shes talking about and knows what she wants from students. This class is referred to as "drawing Bootcamp" by all professors and really is, but if you have a choice, dont take it from her.

this woman was obnoxious. she was anal about everything and only if you did things perfectly could you get a grade in the a range. she is all about gridding things out and making plans. if you are more of a free thinker, definitely get out of her class. she does not encourage creativity.

I abhorred this class and this professor. First, I have no clue why it was required (they have fortunately made it optional in my major now, a lot of good it does me). The Professor knows her material, but she can't teach it to any one else. I stopped caring after midterm. If you don't have to, don't take this class. If you do, don't take Bruzenak.

This has been by far the worst prof that i have ever had. I like hard teachers but i think you actually have to teach to be consided a teacher. avoid this woman at all cost. She is unorganized,she hates criticism and her grading is completely unpredictable. She is even worse than NAN RAINEY, which i thought was the most annoying woman. I was wrong

Stay away from this woman at all costs. The very worst experience I have EVER had in a classroom. She picks her favorites, and grades become dependent on that. She doesn't care how outgoing you are to learn, and it never reflects on your grade whether you sought extra help from her or not. You will regret signing up for her. Guaranteed.

Incredibly difficult teacher. Not only does she patronize her students, but does not appreciate hard work. Her teaching style is incomprehensible. She believes that if you can't understand exactly what she says, then it's indirectly your problem and not hers. If you take her, may the heavens be with you.

i took drawing for design with her. i was excited to learn this stuff, but oh my goodness, she made me fear life. i was more stressed out than ever, working harder and longer than ever, and appreciated less than ever. no exaggeration. i think that the fact that i still have terrifying dreams about her months later says something.

Has no concept of how to upload images to the internet, yet teaches an online studio class. Lectures are nonexistent. I dropped the class after the first week when I realized how little I was getting for my money. Avoid online studio classes (paradoxical) at his school and avoid this teacher.

Alright, let's get this straight. I love drawing. Well, I did. Until I met this woman. She insists that her way is the only way to draw and jumps down your throat if you get it wrong... while at the same time telling you that it is okay if you can't draw. LIES! If you aren't a brown nosing freak, don't take her class.

You really do have to be devoted to do well. I thought she was frustrating for sure, but still friendly. She is a bit picky, but her instructions are clear so if you follow them you're good to go. She really is reliable if you ask her for help. All in all I am pleased. A little tough love never hurt anyone!

No matter how many times you say to her, I don't understand what you're saying or I don't see what you're telling me to see...she doesn't help. So expects you to get it right off the bat and if a question is asked she will find the first way out of answering it. DONT TAKE THIS TEACHER. I read that before I took her and now I realize how true it is.

HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!! DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS!!! Not only does she not explain anything she picks favorites and choses grades based on that. She is very harsh but changes her advise every time she talks to you. I would avoid her class if at all possible. She is very structural and if you are an architecture major you may stand a chance.

Very difficult to understand and blames all failures to understand on the student. Spent the first five weeks thinking this was my fault, then realized nobody was getting it, and dropped. Strikes me as being very narcissistic and disinterested in teaching anyone who doesn't think her manner of teaching is flawless, takes criticism poorly.

She was so horrible, it makes me mad just thinking about it! She would tell me to change something, I would sit there for an hour, not doing anything, and she would say it's an improvement. Obviously she has no idea what she is doing! All her "teaching" is based of some obscure artist who she took classes from, she totally skewed his teachings!

When I talked to her about my troubles in thinking of color mathematically, she honest to god told me not to "think or feel anything about color or my education". This is by far not the only instance of contradiction in her instruction. Nice lady out of class, but EXTREMELY misguided.

Took this class online. Very unhelpful and blamed all class issues on the author of the course rather than trying to improve. Non-existent in the discussion board, which made it difficult to achieve what SHE WANTED. Grades strictly by the horrible rubric. Pulled an A in the course with much effort!

I like a challenging teacher, but this woman is downright EVIL. Insipid, condescending, crazy, wears very stark, scary make-up too. She made several people cry in my class because there was no way we could please her. You'll never have a worse classroom experience in your life.

Basically if you cant draw, dont take this class. She loses your work, she doesnt help really and its like she is speaking German to people who can't draw. if you tried your best, it doesnt matter because she grades it by A= if its amazing to her standards.

Wow, guess what people... it's an ART SCHOOL. If you can't draw or don't have an eye for design, maybe you should spend 100 grand elsewhere! She's actually way more lenient than the professors at the school I transferred from. SCAD is a top ranked college in it's field. If all crappy artists passed, the degree would mean nothing. GET USED TO IT!!!!

This class was extremely difficult. There's no point in taking notes, b/c the quizzes are filled with errors and wrong answers. She wasn't nearly as bad as everyone made her out to be. She seemed nice, but a VERY strict grader. Dont count on getting an A for effort. or even a B. Plan on spending ALOT of time on the projects only to get a lame grade

Somehow I managed to get an A, but that was honestly only because I put in roughly 30+ hours of work into strange and unclear projects. She takes lts of points off if you don't have typed labels and a nicely made portfolio. It was manageable, but a lot of work. She taught us a strange way to draw too..

Drawing 230 is a very hard class. So, if you work hard, Professor B. has the patience of a saint! However you need to work hard- really, really hard. Everyone in my class struggled, but she was flexible with deadlines and willing to spend time giving us individual attention if we needed it.

She approved my final and then the class before it was due, she made me make my design more complex. I had to start all over bc she changed her mind, not a fan of her or the class

Read the ratings prior to taking class but decided to take a chance since I wanted to take the class last quarter. I paid the price for gambling. All of the negative grades are well deserved. Nice lady and means well but too disorganized. Also she's so strict that she often has to break her own rules which confuses everyone later on.

Don't ever take her online. Incredibly slow responding; only checked her email once a day. You usually need 2-3 emails before your questions were answered. Discussions were worse (2 days or more to answer), and she made you direct wips there for feedback, refusing to critique via email. Often didn't mention stuff you needed to fix until she graded.

Scientific Illustration Class. Taught you some 18th century techniques such as the root rectangles and constructing your subject from geometry. Really useful and helpful. Very understanding of the difficulty and extended the class. Great start to the minor/major! Also suggested to take before Hudson.

This was an extremely hard and stressful online class for me. I would regualarly be up to 3am finishing assignments and praying for a B to keep my scholarship. I emailed her for help at the end of quarter and got no response. Very harsh grading and very high expectations. I am a photography major, I'm not an artist!

This teacher has been very unclear about anything. She contradicts herself very frequently. Her system or grading people is off. She told me I had a great project and got a C. Her quizzes don't follow the text you read which gets annoying. I don't want her again. It's been a rough quarter for me. Look for someone else. really. save yourself.

She's very unclear when it comes to explaining things-90% of the time you just have to make stuff up as you go along because no one understands what you're supposed to be doing. This teacher lives up to the previous ratings. She is so vague when she explains directions. If you haven't taken some sort of drawing for architecture or drafting class you will be lost with this professor. I asked her how to improve on a drawing and she told me to redo it over. If you are looking for a good professor she is NOT the one.

I had Prof B for Drawing for Scientific Illustration. She is the sweetest professor, just slightly scatter-brained at times. :) I would take her again instantly if I got the chance, the class was wonderful and my artwork improved so much. Just be prepared to work and learn.

Bruzenak is extremely diluted and confusing in her explanation of what students are supposed to do in her class. We are constantly unsure of what's assigned, and she is rude or oblivious when a student asks for help. Obviously she knows she's horrible-- she constantly talks about how its normal to be confused, and to not blame the professor.

I thought that the people who left negative reviews for her were bad students, they are all telling the truth. She constantly changes requirements for projects so you have to scramble to turn things in, and tells you "not to blame the teacher" for not understanding. I have learned nothing, but it was funny to watch her tell off certain students.

Very intelligent woman, but is over zealous and very dismissive of class discussion, particularly opinions that do not pertain to her. Only taught the last two weeks of class for some reason... Extra help is a must & when she gives you her cell phone # at the beginning of the quarter, take it. You'll need it.

Got stuck with her my first quarter, and is just like the comments say. Lots of information was missing or contradicting. She didn't follow the syllabus on a lot, and mundane topics and instruction carried on. She is helpful when asked, but is very critical, no easy grades I got B's for projects I spent hours on. Distracted, but a nice lady.

She is very vague. She does not explain projects thoroughly, sends misleading or incorrect emails (i.e. emails meant for a different class), and forgets to grade certain things. She lost a piece of my own work. On the positive side, she is enthusiastic, generous, and forgiving. She takes late work, even if it was due last month. I did learn a lot.

She is very unique in her teaching style. The first day of class she gave out turnips and told us to "give the turnip some flavor with your art." I proceeded to spice my turnip up with hickory sauce and crayola magic marker. Needless to say, I got an A for creative and edibleness. My classmates were forced to eat my turnip and they loved it.

She's incredibly vague with project descriptions (tells us to do one thing, but then posts something different online), changes deadlines at 11pm the night before something is due, spends the class lecturing topics that have nothing to do w/the course, lost one of my drawings & told students to fill out prof evaluations while she stood behind them

Garbage. Changes project requirements constantly. Confusing lectures. Had a project 100% approved prior to submitting, perfect project, nothing wrong. Submitted it and got a B. Class has nothing to do with graphic design yet now it's only a requirement for graphic design.

Highly un-recommended!!!! She will look at your work and then ask you to make changes which later she will get upset about because it was "wrong" though it was what she specifically told you to do. Taught us, as well as other majors with youtube videos and overall appeared like she had no idea what she was doing.

Prepare for: Vague instruction (ask many questions) Constant assignment, due date changes Your best work gets no higher than a B Watch what you say and your tone she is quick to be offended. I have never been so disappointed in a class. I'm all for challenging courses but this is ridiculous. Because she is a scientific illustrator her opinions are onesided. Any creativity you want to have is destroyed. You think you will follow the guidelines but end up getting an F for the project. She is not helpful nor a good teacher. Reconsider!

I learned a lot in this professor's Intro to Sci. Illu. class, and can say honestly that she's been the most helpful ILLU professor I've had. Her critique is focused on technical skill & bringing out a natural-yet-artful rendering. Texted her photos of in-progress work -- she's very accessible -- and her advice was always solid.

Precise about what she expects - only unorganized students seem to have issues following the submission guidelines. She won't "squash creativity" - she expects quality! Know the difference

I dont understand the harsh reviews about Professor B on here. I went into VDS terrified of her, but I was surprised by how easy and kind she was. Her biggest issue is that she isn't very clear with her requirements and often changes her mind.

She's very helpful and passionate about the class. There are a lot of harsh critics of her but truth of the matter is if you show no interest in learning or progressing she's not going to force it on you. She's a sweet talented woman teaching a class that involves creativity so at the end of the day it's what you put into it. Offers extra credit.

Prof Bruzenak has been the hardest professor to please. I am very dedicated to my work and it was just disheartening to see how she would always end up giving me low grades on something I would have worked on the entire weekend for. She definitely has a certain style she likes and if you don't fall into that, good luck getting good grades.

Not often clear on grading criteria. Received awful grades on everything I did even when I spent hours upon hours on it. Cares more about the process work than the actual drawing. Was very helpful when it came to idea conception though. Would not recommend if you don't want to spend every weekend doing endless color studies and practice comps.

I took two classes with Professor Bruzenak, ILLU100 and Intro to Scientific Illustration. By far, she has been one of my favorite professors at SCAD. The amount of artistic information you can learn in her class (composition, realistic detail, value structure, color technique, and more!) is so helpful. I improved immensely in her class, 10/10 prof.

She is a very honest lady who has a lot to say about design, especially if it includes crescent moons and fruit. She also LOVES a goods broach. Be sure to take this queen.

Oh Kristie, what a gem. Her class was enjoyable in everything except for the stuff that mattered. She's a real gals gal and is a super nice lady but will definitely give you some sass. Her projects are a lot of work but not as bad as some other design professors. 8/10 would recommend. An easy B!

Professor Bruzenak is one of the least helpful teachers I've ever had. She will give unreasonable amounts of weekend homework and expects you to know how to do every project without explanation. Kristie Bruzenak is the definition of weird. When she gives assignments, they are very vague & the due dates are not clear, AND when you try to ask a question about the project or due date, she belittles you & acts like you should know (& never gives you an answer). The whole class had to help her remember what she was doing . DONT' RECOMMEND.

Her grading criteria is unclear, classes felt like lectures 95% of the times (and it was an 8am). Don't take her if you have other options. Her class is easy, show up to class, do the online quizzes on time, the projects are okay, just use your time in class to work on them and ask her a lot in class, since nobody knows what she wants. Really, ask.

Nice professor and gives good feedback. She can be a bit confusing and unclear with her projects and grading criteria. Some of her projects can be vague and a bit boring at times, and lectures can drag on. But overall she is a sweet lady and I had no trouble getting an A.

Very kind professor who makes sure that her students understand basic design concepts. However, her grading criteria is extremely unclear and her projects are easy yet take an excessive amount of time to complete. She sends out a project sheet that lists certain criteria and then sends a heavily modified one out a day before the project is due.

This woman doesn't follow the syllabus at all, changes anything about a project last minute, is incredibly vague about the requirements for projects as well as the grading criteria, and manages to be displeased when you didn't manage to do thing she never told you to. At first, Kristie seemed like a professor I would hate, but looking back she wasn't bad at all. She can be unclear with instructions but as long as you're respectful towards her and ask for clarification she will help you. Having finished the class, I can say she did teach things that were important fundamentals to design you will use in the future

This course was such a monumental disappointment, I almost quit this entire Masters Program. Her grading and expectations vary so wildly I had to lodge a formal complaint with SCAD. She urges you to communicate via personal texts. She occasionally grades for the wrong course. The grading rubrics to not align with assignment expectations.

First of all, her dog is so LOUD. Horribly trained and barks every 5 damn seconds while she lectures or when someone is presenting their work on Zoom. Secondly, her grading is annoying. If you think you like the way your project turns out, she'll give you a B because you didn't follow her critique on the discussion board. What the hell, Kristie?!

Probably the most frustrating prof I've had. Consistently unprepared for class and started zoom meetings late. She's a scientific illustrator, and if you aren't a realist artist she will find the silliest things to nitpick. Constantly changed her expectations. Horrible critique, rude to students, never actually taught us methods for making patterns

This class has been so awful, unclear instruction and somehow SCAD makes her teaches two class in the same class period. Not getting enough education and when someone asked a simple question she takes forever to explain and going off tangent. There not much teaching going on, only nitpicks. Just DONT do it, its not worth it.

Did NOT know how to operate technology at all to the point where the students in our class had to take over multiple times and show her what she was doing. I thought this professor would be okay at first, She seemed nice enough but after add/drop she became rude and unbearable. Her assessments are vague and if you don't understand good luck because all the feedback you will get is "do research". Gave me a 0 on an assignment for not knowing what a grand vista was. Terrible and will never take again

Uses mostly traditional media. Gives a good amount of homework but they are preparation for the actual big project. Projects were fun and she would give nice feedback, can be more inclined to some styles but over all very nice. Classes are very calm so at least for me, who was taking it as a night class, I had trouble staying awake.

She hasn't replied to any of my emails. She gave me absences that I was there for. I was able to prove I was there but it was never changed. Had to withdraw. Do not take her if you think you'll need her outside of class, she drops off of the face of the earth during the week and weekends. Awful professor.

Awful. Learned everything on my own. Cannot use computers, students need to step in and teach her how to do things and students have to demo FOR her. The feedback is unhelpful. Incredibly biased; not her area, she's not interested in it. We don't all wanna work for Hallmark or Caspari. Awful class and teacher. Avoid if you can, do fibers instead.

Be careful with her. She is nice as a friend, but iffy as a professor. I took her twice for the sci illu minor and both times were rocky. She doesn't keep with the syllabus and always has something to say when doing traditional art, misuses pronouns when directly in front of her, and is stuck teaching a curriculum that was made over 15 years ago.

She taught two classes (315 & 345) concurrently, which meant either class would spend upwards of an hour and a half in a Zoom breakout room. She provided our class one demonstration the whole quarter, the rest was self taught via YouTube. She implied that digital art is a cop-out and that SEQA was for children. Regretting my SCI ILLU minor.

Awful person. Shes so rude and passive aggressive, which makes it anxiety inducing to ask her questions, which is supposed to be encouraged. She also misgendered my friend and I in front of the whole class and gave me a zero for an assignment that she had literally confirmed via email I could use my extension on days before the due date.

This professor was pretty good for starting off in the ILLU major. Projects are diverse and fun to work on! The only issue I had is that she'll spend all of her class time on admittedly pointless lectures and she paces group critiques DREADFULLY slow. You won't get class time to work on projects, but they're easy to complete on your own time.

Shes very nice and I didnt hate her projects, but her lectures were painful. took up lots of class time, her prject sheets were didnt follow what we did in class, and her submissions were weird with how she requires metadata. tbh u will survive if u have to take her, but its not that great of an experience.

I do not recommend her to anyone. The entire class never knew what was going on, even one of the chairs of ILLU was also confused on her project directions. Constant anxiety in her class. I genuinely dread going to her class constantly...don't sign up for her unless you HAVE to.

Professor B is not about catering to your feelings to make you feel better and is direct. She is generous with her time. When I sent her e-mails she would sometimes not respond, but other times when she did she would selectively answer questions. I also noticed that professor B gives more constructive criticism than pointing out what we did well.

I personally loved Professor B, she was very clear when critiquing our work which was really helpful because she gave us the opportunity to revise and resubmit for every single assignment. My only issue is that by week 10 we only had grades posted up until week 4 so I still don't know what I got on majority of my assignments to this day.

I have never had to deal with a professor as rude and disrespectful as her. She would constantly berate and belittle student's work and concepts in non-constructive ways. she called people's work boring and lifeless without advising them on how to improve. She's okay at lecturing, but I wouldn't take her. She is terrible with communication, had to contact her 5 separate times to have her do something. The criteria on her briefs didn't match the syllabus, those didn't match her announcements, even some of the stuff on her handouts had inconsistencies within the same sentence.

She isn't complementary with crit, which is more beneficial. I got portfolio pieces out of the course, but you gotta pay close attention to the brief and file info. Before you leave each class, clarify with her what is due NEXT CLASS. Blackboard will be wrong, and you will be punished for that. If you follow briefs, you'll do well, no slack in 150.

Claims to want to see her students succeed, but all of her advice feels like needling over minor details and not actionable directions. Slow to grade. Called me by the wrong name nearly every class. I had her for ILLU 504 and she was great! I was scared by her reviews but she is so sweet and caring! I didn't have experience with drawing but her course was perfect in working on very basic foundations and starting to get an eye for analyzing and breaking down art into shapes. For our first assignment, almost everybody in my class submitted the assignment incorrectly due to unclear expectations in the rubric. She would tell us to do one thing in class, then blackboard would say something completely different. Projects took way longer to complete simply because she would leave out important information in demos.

I had her for FOUN 245. Professor B cares about your success, but she has very high standards. The key to success is communication, because sometimes instructions aren't clear and deadlines are inconsistent in Blackboard. If you take this class, make sure not to take another studio class with it because you will not have enough time for both.
