her class is awesome. Easy to pass, just follow instructions.
Sweet woman. Clear, concise, ordered teaching pace. If you are not able to make at least a B in her class, you should quit college and become a janitor.
She is very nice and helpful
Good professor, for a lecture class. Material isn't too hard, and she presents the material fairly well. Tests aren't too difficult, and if you show up you can get an A or B pretty easily. She gives random quizes though, so attending class is in your best interest.
Super easy!!! She curves the tests and gives lots of extra points. Good teacher.
Very boring teacher -- Good for a lecture class -- very guillable -- easy if you go to class
not the best teacher -- all she does is read the powerpoint that you can print off of Moodle. go to class bc of random quizzes. even though she doesnt take attendance. study the powerpoints for the test and just kinda listen in class and you will make an A or at least a B easy.
She was a great teacher but there was alot of material on the test. It was like five chapters per test (4) but she drop the lowest grade on a test.
She is a pretty good teacher. To try to keep a good sense of hommor on something as boring as a huge lecture class on rocks has to be hard to do. I thought she was really interesting. The class was easy but you have to actually BE THERE for the notes because the way she explained it made it easy. Fun subject too.
VERY easy teacher! I would take her again in a heart beat. Curves tests, drops lowest test grade, gives bonus points. I didn't do well on the tests and still ended up with a B from everything else! Make sure you go to class (even though its boring) she gives super easy quizzes randomly. Over all pretty boring, but easy!!!
Class is really impossible to fail, she gives a lot of bonus points and she drops the lowest test grade. The material is boring and i was uninterested in it but she does a good job of explaining it. You really don't need the textbook at all because she puts these slides online that you print out which are her notes, basically don't get the text.
There's 4 exams and she drops the lowest one. She also gives a curve on each exam. I only studied the powerpoints and made A's. There's bonus point opportunities. You have to go to class because because she gives "attendance quizzes" worth 10 points based on the slides she just went over. Easy class!
4 tests, drops lowest. Easy comprehensive exam. Easy clicker quizzes. Bonus point opportunities. Don't need the book. I only needed a 23 on the final for an A so I barely studied...I made a 96. She's very knowledgable and kind.
She is a very easy teacher. Her lectures are the slide shows and the quizzes in class are word from word on the slides. (they are open slide quizzes) She is nice and she doesn't like talking. Easy to pull of an A just study.
Very easy class, i texted and slept most of the class and i didn't study and i passed most of the test, drops the lowest and she loves what she teaches. do no buy the book waste of money
easy, easy, easy! it is impossible to fail. just print out her lecture notes and study them on your own time. you dont have to go to class. the tests come straight from the notes that are printable on moodle. study them at least two days before the test and you will get an A. i really wish that all geol classes were this easy:)
If you're a pro at memorizing, you will make an A in this class. The tests are all fill in the blank and cover 4-5 chapters each. She gives you her slide shows to study. Each chapter of slide shows average 8-10 pages of printed paper, with 6 slides being on each page. If five chapters are on one test you will be studying around 300 slides. Goodluck
Don't buy the book. B/t lecture notes and the lab book that's all you need. Puts on test exactly what she covers in class, no tricks. Overall an easy class. Listen, take a little bit of notes when she's talking and you'll fly through.
Memorization is key for this class. Study, study STUDY the powerpoints, know every sentence, every diagram. This isn't the easiest class, but it's definitely passable. Kristie is the best, very very cool lady.
CLASS IS SUPER BORING. TEST ARE PRETTY HARD IF YOU DONT PAY ATTENTION IN CLASS AND STUDY. GO TO TUTORING.! *ITS FREE IN THE FALL & SPRING.
Don't buy the text book u don't need it. Print out the notes and have a binder just for this class. Real easy and is great for nap time.
DO NOT BUY THE BOOK. It's extremely expensive and as long as you study her PowerPoints, you'll pass with ease. Great professor; I recommend her.
So the class is super boring but the test are a breeze as long as you study. She doesn't put much emphasize on the material to make it interesting but she's ok. Do not, I repeat, DO NOT, buy the textbook! You won't need it. The tests come straight from the powerpoint.
This class is very easy and very interesting, if volcanoes and earthquakes interest you. She makes the material as interesting as possible, tells lots of jokes, and is really down to Earth. Pay attention in class and you won't have to really study, just review notes and you can ace the tests. She gives bonus quizzes and in class quizzes are easy!
Don't take the class; easy, understandable lectures but hard tests.
Don't take this class thinking it is so easy! Yes she gives power points and iclicker quizzes but the test are heard! If this is something you are not interested in take something else. It's boring so its not something that will make you want to study!
class total points are 800. 500 goes for the tests, 100 for quizzes, and 200 for lab. The lab is easy but her tests are hard. Overall good.
Great, interesting class. Had no prior knowledge of geology, and still felt confident in class. Grades come from lab, attendance, pop quizzes, and exams. She speaks clearly, but her voice is very monotone, making staying awake difficult at times. If you attend class and pay attention, you should have no issues passing.
May not need your book in class but definitely need it to study. Gives you quizzes in class. Even better if she talks too long she'll do an attendance quiz. So don't leave class early.
she is great! she explains everything in full detail and her slideshows are actually interesting. she puts pictures to go along with what she is talking about, so you really get the whole idea. she made a boring subject very interesting. just don't take out your phone because she will freak out and DO NOT BUY THE BOOK, YOU WILL NOT USE IT!
Kristie is a good teacher, she is boring and put the whole class to sleep as soon as she start talking. Im a Geology major and was interested in what she said but still fell asleep due to her mono tone voice. The quizzes really help me plus I got an A in the lab and still came out with a C, just study the powerpoints extremely close and you do good
She teaches in a strange way, I couldn't understand her very will. When I came up and talked to her during the semester she told me, "I can no tell you how to study, you have to figure out that on your own." I ended up failing the class and she did nothing to help me.
Lectures are pretty boring and you have to really study to do well on her exams. But she does give you plenty of opportunities to make up your grade with quizzes and bonus quizzes online. She gives pop quizzes sometimes at the end of lectures and she takes attendance every day. I would probably take her again
Tests are really easy for the most part. There might be a couple of questions on there that she doesn't even mention about during lectures or in power points. DO NOT BUY THE BOOK! I don't see why anyone would say this class is hard. She gives 25 bonus point at end of semester. Tests are straight from the notes. Class is VERY boring though. Got an A
Lectures are long and the class is huge and dark so it was hard to stay awake. You CAN record her. She gives out the slides that she discusses in class, study them WELL! Those will be the test! Had to study for her class. The Final was 17 Chapters Comprehensive 50 multiple choice. Does give extra point assignments. Need iCLICKER!
I really enjoyed taking this class! That being said, I'm a geology nerd so it may not be the same for everyone. As long as you show up to class and take notes (the powerpoints from moodle are not enough), you'll be fine! You need an iclicker for attendance and random open book pop quizzes. The final is not comprehensive!
It's a huge class and boring material so it's hard to pay attention. She gives you her powerpoints and explains really well. She goes a little fast, but her tests aren't extremely specific and she drops your lowest grade. She gives 10 iClicker quizzes and 8/10 of them are attendance. Overall, take notes and study, you will do fine.
Pretty easy to understand, but it is lecture only and it get kind of boring at points which can make it hard to focus.
Kristie is a nice person and seems to know exactly what she's talking about. I liked her a lot but it was very hard for me to concentrate bc it can be boring. Will need an Iclicker for pop quizzes! DO NOT BUY THE BOOK YOU WILL NEVER USE IT! Just check quizlet if you need help. If you want to do good in this class study a lot!
took 4 exams and a final. Final was mandatory and comprehensive. She drops the lowest test grade (not the final). Take notes along with her powerpoints. Does not give study guide, so read all notes. Gave study guide for the final. 5 out of 10 pop quizzes were attendance quizzes so don't leave class early.
She tests only on the lecture, so make sure you attend class and take great notes. She is always available outside of class if you need help. She gave us 2 extra credit opportunities this semester. I bought the textbook and used it half the time--not necessary if you go to class and take amazing notes. She explains things in great detail. Recommend
I'd definitely recommend taking her. The textbook is not necessary at all if you attend class regularly, take good notes, and pay attention during her lectures. Again, attendance is important because she gives quizzes (AKA gives points just for showing up). Overall, an easy A.
Geology 111 is just the beginning of geology, but Dr. Cornell does a stellar job teaching it. It's a neat class, but can be boring. If you look over the powerpoints faithfully, this class is an easy A. You are only graded through tests (noncumulative final) and occasional quizzes.
She really cares about geology, but her voice makes the course somewhat boring. Gives powerpoints but go to class and fill in the rest because you'll be missing a lot of information, plus sometimes she'll have easy point pop-quizzes. Tests are straightforward, nothing tricky.
Having switched to geology, I had no clue what to expect, but Dr. Cornell instantly became my favorite professor. She legitimately cares about you and is willing to answer ANY question that you have. As long as you show that you care about your grade, she will help you in any way possible.
lectures are so boring you'd wish you were sleeping. test are impossible, study for hours and still can't make better than a 70.
She presents off of some PowerPoint slides that she put together - goes between slides, and does an open lecture, presenting from her head. This means that about 5% of the information from the class is on the slides (which she posts online) and 95% is what she lectures (very quickly and will not slow down). Also refuses to provide study guides.
Lectures from power points. Gives easy extra credit assignments, drops the lowest test grade and grades on curve. Class can be boring if you're not interested in geology, but she know's her stuff and explains it well. Show up, pay attention, take notes, easy A. Only complaint is that she does move a bit fast.
She lectures from powerpoints WAY too fast and takes like 90% of what she says and puts it on the test. I cannot keep up with her. She also grades attendance randomly and you get a 0/10 if you happen to not show up that one day. Her tests are impossible to ace. The other geology classes are said to be so much easier. She's also incredibly boring.
She is one of the hardest lecturers to keep up with that I have ever taken. She speaks and moves on in an insanely fast manner and speaks directly off of the slides so there is no point in going to class except for attendance and the occasional pop quiz. She treats a non-major geology class like a 300 level biology. TAKE SOMEONE ELSE FOR UR SAKE!
Her exams have nothing to do with her slides. She lectures incredibly fast so you couldn't write anything down if you wanted to. Her exams pretty much as only application questions and expects you to have the knowledge of a Geology Major in a 300 level course, making them virtually impossible to study for. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!!!
Everything from the slides in class is never on the test. You have to go and listen to the lectures and write things down if you want to have potential to pass the test. Bonus is offered but will not make you pass
The lectures were very good and informative, and the the textbook wasnt required. But there was no way of knowing what exactly was going to be on the test so we had to read through tons of notes and just study everything. But overall she didnt ask about the specifics on tests (things like dates).
Took her during the covid19 crisis, and I personally preferred this class online than in person. In person, we had tests and pop quizzes, and her lectures moved quite fast. Online, she used voice thread and quizzes as our main grades and it was a lot easier to go at my own pace. She wasnt a bad teacher, just a little bland and a lot of info.
she knows geology 4 sure. ?t it was a long test, never had time to finish them. failed every test. i studied alot. its alot of material to absorb when you dont use geology daily. have to know the material to pass. Lectures are a bit dull and long. its alot to take in. overwhelming. i went to every class but didnt have a grade for it she didnt care
Dr. Cornell is very helpful, I enjoy her zoom classes, they're very good and informative!
I feel like the subject matter could definitely be presented in a more exciting matter, but her teaching style is just so dull, yet overwhelming at the same time. If you zone out for 5 seconds, you have no hopes of catching back up and understanding what she's talking about. If you can take someone else, do it.
Dr. Cornell is a good teacher, but I wish her classes were in person. Her online class can get very monotone, but if you study the material, you should pass her classes.
Professor Cornell is a great professor. I wish I could take all of her classes. Once you get comfortable with her teaching method, which is just a presentation lecture everyday, you will feel very comfortable in her class. Attendance is not mandatory, Her tests are exactly like her lectures, so just pay attention and you'll do fine!
She posts her lecture slides online, but know that some questions on the exam come from the lecture instead of the slides. Very knowledgeable in the subject and willing to clarify. If you pay attention, take basic notes, and look over them before exams you should do fine. Beware of occasional pop quizzes (10 a semester). Easy but cannot be made up.
The absolute worst. Genuinely promised me that things wouldnt be on the exam, and they were. Shes boring, arrogant, and personally irritating.
Dr. Cornell is very educated and loves the study of Geology. However, her tests are EXTREMELY hard. She posts the powerpoints, but they are mostly made up of pictures with little to no information on them. This means you need to go to every class or you will be lost. I'm a good student that rarely fails tests but I've failed two in her 100 level...
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! She has a very monotone voice. There were 4 exams with no homework or extra credit. You definitely will be teaching yourself.
This class was both online and in person. You need your book and her lectures to get the material. The tests were difficult but if you study you will pass
Honestly this is not a 100 course level class. She does not give homework nor assignments. Worst class I have ever took in my 4 years of college!! My classmates and I are struggling and we studied exteremely hard. I DO NOT RECOMMEND!
Really nice person and will treat you will respect and is willing to help you if needed, just be ready to work hard and take a lot of notes during lectures. If you dont attend lectures you will not pass. I highly recommend attending in person you can hear her way better and see examples she gives in class. Overall tough class but great teacher
Please don't take her! if you are looking for an easy elective dont do it
took this class online the first few weeks and it was so easy!!! but then we went in person and her actual test was NOTHING like the quizzes. very lecture heavy you have to go to class to know material. cannot rely on just the slides. she offered a zoom option. attendance wasn't for a grade, but need to go to get test material. gives extra credit
Professor Cornell is very monotoned and just reads of powerpoints. Her tests are very hard and tons of material at once. 5 exams make up your grade and if it wasn't for the bonus quizzes I never would've made an A-.
Ms. Cornell has a monotone voice, so as someone with adhd it was very hard to not fall asleep out of boredom during her online lectures. Her exams were ridiculously hard and if it was not for the extra credit she offers, I would have gotten a C or worse.
I would not recommend taking her. The class is almost strictly test grades with a few bonus quizzes. Without the bonus she gives, my grade would be pretty poor. All she does is read extensive slides. I have asked for study guides or just a general direction for west to study and she refused it. The tests are very hard. She made this class difficult
I took Geology for my elective and this was definitely my best bet. She understands that most people are in her class as an elective. Attendance is not mandatory until the end of the semester when she starts doing pop quizzes. I recommend going to class cause It helps a lot on her test. Basic effort is all that is needed in this class to do decent.
Test were extremely hard and most of the questions were not in any of the lectures.
Great professor. Great class. If you would not want her to expect it from you, do not expect it of her. 10/10 would recommend for incoming geo students
Love Cornell! Lectures are easy to follow and she posts them online. The slides aren't very in depth but she explains in person so I highly recommend going to class. Has pop quizzes but usually just at the end of the semester and they're open book. Study for the tests a few days before and you should be good. I didn't use the textbook.
Worst class I've ever taken. She treats this like your major and there is SO MUCH info. She is so monotone, but she doesn't read straight off the PowerPoints, but if you don't go to class (which I did), you won't get her PowerPoint because most slides have one word. I had to drop to save my grade so save yours too and don't take this class.
Would not recommend this class to anyone. Only received 2 bonus quizzes. Rest of grades were test that were nothing like the quiz or lecture slides. I have never done so bad in a class. The professor does not teach. Jus talks and slides only have one word on there slides
Not hard by any means if you go to class and listen to the lectures.
Easy to pass, hard to ace (even with bonus quizzes). Would not recommend.
She does in fact teach like you are an expert in GEOL field already, no homework or anything to make up for bad test except for 25 bonus points. Drops the lowest test grade but I could barely keep up with her lectures because she'd talk/get through material very fast, had to start recording in order to save my grade, wouldn't recommend for newbies
Its very easy to both succeed and fail. Tests are on lectures. She lectures based off the slides, and doesn't require the book. She explains what will and won't be on the test before each test day. She gives slides to students but its missing info and "should be used to take notes on", so while class isn't mandatory, you should go to class to pass.
Her class is honestly easy to pass if you go to the lectures and take good notes. Her slides aren't very detailed but she goes in depth explaining each topic. The only grades are 5 test and some bonus work as well as the lab. Its truly not a bad class to take you just have to pay attention and show up to class.
No quizzes no study guides no practice tests no homework; just take notes in class and use that to answer 50 question tests. The final exam is not comprehensive.
