Great teacher! I had her for lab but someone else for lecture. I would struggle with lab but going to Dr. Byrd's lab every week just made everything seem so clear. She is a lot of fun and she wants her students to do well. Attend class and pay attention & you will do well. If she repeats or stresses any points - they WILL be on the test so listen.
Dr. Byrd makes biology interesting and is interested in seeing her students understand the material and succeed. She is kind and funny and very personable.
I love Mrs. Byrd. She is the nicest teacher I have ever had. She makes learning so easy. I bought the book but i didnt need it once because her handouts are crystal clear of what will be on the exam. She doesnt want anyone to fail. I would take her again in a heartbeat!!!
Great teacher. Didn't even need to buy a textbook.
Nicest teacher I have EVER had. She is SO EASY TO UNDERSTAND. Tests are not scantron, but she will do everything to mkae people pass. She is really nice. I am waiting for her to teach biol non mjrs 2 b/c I wont take another bio teacher. LOVE HER CLASS! Makes it really interesting. (Didnt even need txt book)
Best teacher i have ever had! She is a fun person and very understanding and easy to talk to. Tests are hard but if you study the powerpoint notes you should get a good grade! i wish she was teaching biology 1409!!!!!
She is a very nice person. She is also very knowlegible. Her tests are very hard and studying is very necessary. The class itself seems a little hard for a non-science major.
Very nice, and personable! Will go the extra mile to make sure you pass! Drops the lowest test score of the semester. Tests are extremely challenging. She uses the text book test bank for a lot of her test. Would take her again!
Dr. Byrd was very nice and she gives out extra credit when needed. i didnt use the book very much but it was helpful to have when i didnt understand. she tries to make the class amusing by doing funny dances and phrases, which also helps you remember the content. i would recommend taking her, she is the best they have. she is the dept head too.
I loved Dr. Byrd. She's very sweet and practically like a student herself (very young!) Her class is, of course, biology, but she does everything she can to help you with it and make it as easy for you as possible. She's a fantastic professor. Didn't even need the textbook!
She is a wonderful teacher, very easy to talk too, she will help you at all cost. She gives lots of extra credit. Her test are easy enough of you study. She is funny. Please read your book, it helps alot. Oh and she's cute!
I really really loved her class. She is the reason i am majoring in biology now. she made me realize that i am good at biology and with a little studying you can get an A too!
What a wonderful teacher!! She is understandable and has a fun way of teaching. Attendance is a must if you want to pass. Her tests come from her lectures, I have hardly used the book.
I took this class because of the great comments she got, but everyone should know that this class is extremely difficult online. I would never recommend. Hardest class I've ever taken. She is so helpful, nice, and great, yes, (so I thought it would be a good choice) but DON'T take online for the love of God. This is not a biased opinion, I promise.
She was a very fun teacher, and made the class fun, even though attending class was not mandatory, I always looked forward to it. She explains the material with great analogies; although, she expects you to understand it and has multiple essays on the exams. I HIGHLY recommend her.
Took Mrs. Byrd for lab and she is A-MAZING! She simplifies the material and explains it in terms you'll understand. She's easy to talk to if you want to ask questions. However, as with all bio courses, you'll NEED to study a LOT outside of class because there is a ton of material
I do not know why she is HOT. I never take her class again.
I took her, and I made the biggest mistake due to the good previous recommandations. I Am an A+ student and studies hard, but I experienced baddly in her class. She doesn't explain in class, but reads over the slides. I wonder why she is hot.
She is awesome, she teaches the material well. I never once left my lab practical saying, "we never learned that". I cannot imagine someone rating her badly....that person probably did not study. This is a hard class, but really fun with Dr.Byrd. She has that weird science humor that I dig. Take her if you can!!
I took Dr. Byrd's online lecture course. I found her class to be relatively easy. As long as you keep up with the reading you should make an A. Normally you have to read 1 ch a week. You will have to take your tests at the testing center but as long as you read the chapters and study its no problem! I recommend her for an online instructor.
Had Dr. Byrd as a substitute for her husband (also Dr. Byrd) in genetics. Mrs. Byrd is great, she's enthusiastic and cheerful, and though the material is hard she is entertaining and makes it more interesting with her "oodles" and "woosh woosh" sound effects (just ask her about microarrays and you'll see what I mean). I really liked her.
Sure, she's fun and she's adorable, but she honestly does NOT teach that well. Her slides are VERY disorganized and DO NOT match up with the textbook at all, studying is difficult. Tests are HARD. She goes WAY TOO FAST in lecture, so there's still things on the exams that weren't clearly covered or outlined. Take at own risk.
i thought she was really nice and helpful. she explains things in a way that are easier to understand. this is biology for majors so therefore it is NOT easy! the test are hard but she is a great teacher.
Awesome professor , Easy as long as you study, she is very helpful
Had her for lab and she was great. Entertaining and made things fun. Defintely take her!
I had Dr. Byrd for lab and she's a great professor! Always available for questions and she's approachable. The class was demanding and lab practicals were killer, but this is a course for Biology majors after all. If you're serious about school and can devote a ton of study time you'll do great in her class, too!
Fun. Fair. Understandable. Entertaining. Helpful. Young.
AMAZING biology professor. I have never been more interested in science than I was in her lecture. She is very sweet and funny and animated. She is kinda hard in the sense of you HAVE TO TAKE NOTES and PAY ATTENTION!! Otherwise you will fall behind as she moves very fast. I recommend her to everyone. :)
If you like to suck up to teachers this class is for you. Otherwise be prepared for a ridiculous amount of study time for a freshman level class. Like I said if you can kiss good you know what this class is for you
I took her lab section for majors bio I and enjoyed her class and teaching style. She's animated and comes up with crazy anaologies to help you remember the material. A+ instructor! You won't regret taking her class... even if it is at 8 in the morning!
I took her for lab and she was awesome! I learned more from her than I did my lecture. She makes sure you get the correct answer before you turn something in and is willing to help. Definitely recommend taking her.
Teaching style is very poor. Don't take.
I took her online lecture class. She did not keep with the course schedule and would open the homeworjk 2-3 days late. She was very hard to communicate with. When The students pointed out her mistakes she thought she was a victim.
One of my favorite professors! Very passionate and energetic during lectures. Book is necessary and so is attendance. Her class is pretty easy if you show up and read the chapters; Tests can be hard if you don't! They consist mostly MC & Short answer.
Dr. Byrd just won Teacher of the Year. That pretty much sums her up.
Her class is very practical and tests are entirely applied. She is an awesome professor. She helps you with all your questions and her dedication is just unbeatable. Her tests are not easy neither is the class, but there cannot be any better professor for biology than her.
She is pretty awesome! Very engaging with her students and offers lots of extra credit and extra help outside of class! You must read the book, I recommend recording her lectures, and meeting with her one on one and she encourages this also! I dropped because of lab, not her! She's great an I highly recommend her!
Dr. Byrd is my favorite teacher! She is so enthusiastic about Biology and she makes you want to learn more about the subject as well. The class is hard in the sense that you must attend class, take notes, and STUDY!! But to be fair what Science class isn't like that? She is an awesome teacher and I HIGHLY recommend her!
Dr. Byrd's class is insanely difficult. She is nice herself, but this class is NON-MAJORS and you feel like you're studying to be a Biologist. She takes too long to responds to e-mail as well, "I think only about my family after 2:00 everyday."
Great Prof. Shes tough though, but if you study and show up to class you will do just fine.
The best teacher I have ever had. Very kind, knowledgeable, helpful, and awesome. I love her.
She's great this is my 2nd semester wher she doesnt teach 1409 lab unfortunately Pay attention in lecture & do the ch. outlines (worth extra credit) & you'll pass the test. The final will be comprensive, she pulls from the past test can replace your lowest grade. The is also one group project on the senses meet the criteria & you'll pass.
Be prepared to do a lot of work she is not clear on what she wants and she gives you these take home test that are the most ridiculous thing ever. She gives preference to students and she will tell you I think you will like this grade even if its and F. Nice person outside of class but not as a teacher. She is very unorganized.
She makes things way more complicated than they need to be. Lectures are okay I guess, not really any issues with that. HOWEVER THE TESTS! Extremely excessive; tons of questions, most of which are worded weird, the test avereage was usually not above 75% Take at your own risk; Im gonna have to retake with someone else -__-#AintNobodyGotTimeForThat
Don't believe some of the recent posts... Dr. Byrd is a great teacher and really wants you to LEARN and if you learn it, you will pass the class. As long as you come to class and show some effort, she will go above and beyond to help you master the material (and pass her tests). Pay attention she asks many of her test questions during class.
I'm not going to lie, this class is tough especially for it being non-majors but Dr. Byrd is the best professor! She is entertaining in lecture and awesome in lab! She does sometimes go fast in lecture so print out the outlines online unless you write fast! Do the extracredit and attend class every day and you will pass!! I'm so grateful I had her!
I love Mrs. Byrd! I had her for non-majors and lab. I was afraid I wouldn't do well but she made it fun and easy. You MUST put a lot of time and effort into the class though. Miss and class and miss a lot of material. VOCAB IS KEY! Go to any study session and it will be very helpful. Ask questions. And have fun, because she makes it fun!
I'm really glad I took Professor Byrd as my biology instructor. She helps you figure out what you need to do in order to do well for the quizzes and tests. The extra credit assignments helped me pass this class.
Best teacher ever!!! I decided to switch my degree to biology after taking this class. She is very helpful, gives great assignments, and offers study sessions. During her study sessions (they are not mandatory to attend), she answers questions and gives hints to exams questions she might be asking.
She is an amazing teacher, she makes biology more fun to learn. There will be 4 tests and 1 final comprehensive exam throughout the course. The tests are hard, you do not "memorize" the materials learned, but you need to actually know the concept to pass the test. She is a tough grader but gives extra credit occasionally. You must show up to pass.
Professor Byrd is a prof that will make you work for your grade. I am a person that likes to memorize material and study just a few days before the test, which is why I have a C right now. You really have to make an effort and study hard to do well. She obviously wants us to do well and is very passionate, but she teaches like a majors teacher.
She is a teacher that will make biology a little more fun to learn. However, she is not very organized. She is rushing everything and expect you to know more than you've learned on the test. If you ask for help she will most likely to tell you to read your book. I worked really hard and got a C.
Lots of homework. Not clear on what she expects. Not organized. Rushes through lectures. If confused she tells you to read the text or the study guide. Tests are extremely tough! She expects us to all be at the Ph.D. level she is on. Her lab tests covered things not discussed in lectures and her test means were in the 50's and 60's!
She makes biology a little easier and fun to learn, but I do not recommend her. She rushes through everything and expect you to know more than you learn in class on the test, and she will not grade according to the syllabus. I worked really hard, spent 2+hr/day on this subject only and got a C- she messed up my grade.
Dr. Byrd is an amazing teacher who is very versed in her field. Be aware, do not take this class if you're not willing to work for your grade. It is a MAJORS class, so you're working for your bachelors! She's willing to help and truly cares about her students. In fact, I switched majors to biology because of her. I wish she taught 1407.
Professor B. is fantastic. She offers a ton of extra credit and opportunities. She really cares about her students .However, her tests are difficult as you would have to pay attention to every detail and think outside the box. Just record her lectures, do extra credit, ask doubts and you will get an A. She's great and I'm taking her for 1409 too !!
Profs like her are why I brag on TCC. She's brilliant, respected by her students and peers and makes me feel like I'm taking a class at a major university. Except one real difference. She cares. She will learn everyone's name by the end of the first month. This class was no walk in the park but I'm so glad I took her. Advise: RECORD HER Lectures!
Dr. Byrd is a great person. She doesn't check her email, but she WILL help you if you reach out in person. Exams have short answer questions, so you really need to know your stuff! Attendance is mandatory. I had to miss a few classes and it impacted my grade. Went from having a 98 in 1408 to an 89.99 in 1409!! My lab grade bumped me up, thankfully.
I wish I had not taken this professor. In class she is probably a great professor, but as an online/hybrid she is terrible. It is not clear what you should study for the exams and be prepared to answer hypothetical short answer essay questions on her exams... that cover biology.
If you want an easy A then don't take her. Here is some advise that i think is essential to get an A in her class. BTW everyone who had good grades in her class did these thing. 1) Print out her powerpoints or bring your laptop, she won't wait for you to write them down 2) record her lectures 3)make flash cards 4)don't get left behind in class.
Dr. Byrd is one of the best professors I have had, she does a really good job at explaining the material we are going over. She uses real life examples and humor to help her students understand. Biology is hard no matter what professor but she definitely makes it easier and really does her best to help her students succeed. & she is always happy!!!
Easy class and not too much work at all.
Amazing teacher, and so organized. All of your resources are clearly given to you and she will help you if you put in effort. Very patient when explaining things. I couldn't add anymore tags, but i would also label her as gives good feedback, test heavy, extra credit, lecture heavy, and accessible outside of class. Remember he kids' names.
She obviously loves her job and you can tell by how much she cares about her students. You are very well prepared for each test, and have all of your resources easily accessible. I am going to miss her very much when I transfer.
Dr. Byrd is the best professor at TCC. I took her for 1408 and next semester I'll take her for 1406. I changed my major from accounting to Biology because of her. She lover her job, cares about her her students, and she's funny. Definitely recommend her.
Probably one of the nicest teachers I've ever had but also one of the hardest classes I've ever taken. Her test are extremely difficult and she's also a tough grader.
Love this teacher!! She is very understanding and provides multiple ways to earn easy 100s. I am not a great test taker, but with all the other graded assignments I have an A! With that beings said, be prepared to do lots of work. I would definitely take her again
Very specific and answers questions until you understand. Gives lots of information and test are really hard. But she always believes you can figure it out and helps you and encourages you to go back and figure out the right answer. Nice and entertaining. BUT science is very hard for me so this class is extra hard for me.
This teacher cares and is passionate about biology. Great lectures, videos, brownies. Lots of work but all useful. You will learn allot about life. Extra credit -work for it will help your grade. Take her lab if you take her. Helpful to have together buy lab book a must keep lab quizzes for midterm and final.
Awesome teacher! The best i ever had. She expects the best from you. She is super passionate about biology and cares about all her students. NO MATER WHAT DONT DROP she will help you get through it. She is always available during office hours and will help if you have questions. Go to SI meetings do all the extra credit it really helps you out.
You have to read the book. She provides reading guides to help you absorb the info from the book... Part of the test great are discussion questions, up to 10. They may seem overwhelming (explaining things in simple terms) but they help you remember the concept.... Lab was rushed due to TCC's lab times, but wasn't too bad... Couple of group projects
I took Dr. Byrd for Biology 1408 in the fall 2017 semester. Because of her I switched my major from education to genetics. She makes biology fun. In the beginning I struggled with cells, and chemistry, but she sat with me for over an hour outside of class and made it visual (my way of learning) She is an easy grader and offers lots of extra credit.
Shes a good proffesor but i wouldnt take her again. Talks too much about her bird passion and is kind of annoying
Her teaching style did not help me learn. Too much lecturing and teaches like you are at a university
Dr. Byrd is an AWESOME proff. Its alot of material but her lectures are really easy to understand, as long as you stay on top of your assignments and read the book you will do good. Yeah her class is harder than other classes at TCC but get used to it if you want to major in science, taking this class will prepare you for all other science classes.
This is not an easy class but if you put 200% your effort for this class, you will get an A. There are two projects -one for lecture and one for lab. She is a really good professor. Her lecture is really helpful. Try to be in class every single day because she goes through many things in one lecture.
Dr. Byrd is amazing. Her lectures are super interesting and she is super passionate about what she does. She is bubbly and makes biology so easy to understand. She wants you to succeed, but you do definitely have to work for it. It was overwhelming at times, but it's nothing a little hard work can't overcome. Ended up with a 99 as my final grade.
A 5.0 rating does not begin to describe what an amazing teacher Dr. Byrd is. She inspires such passion for biology, explains things with stories to help you remember and understand. She gives so much extra credit, and genuinely wants to help every student. I took her for 1408, and am taking her again for 1406. SHE IS AMAZING! No school deserves her
Dr. Byrd is passionate about biology and it shows. She goes over the material in a way that is easy to understand and she helps you to understand with many different resources. She provides a reading guide for every chapter and discussion questions before each test. The tests are tough, so take advantage of the extra credit. Dr. Byrd is fantastic!
Her labs are very confusing. You have this group project where nobody knows what is going on. You write this huge paper over it and still don't understand what you are doing. No worries. She will give so much extra credit in lecture it all works out. My friends took this class on another campus. Much better. Will go there in the fall.
She talks pretty fast and is hard to keep up with. Sooo easy! Extra credit, practice tests, cheat notes for the test! I cant believe its college.
Professor Byrd's course focuses too much on lecture. There are not many engaging activities in this class.
Great class! Do your work and communicate with her and she will do what she can to guide you in the right direction.
Dr. Byrd is one of the best professors at TCC. She is an amazing professor and an amazing person. She really cares for her students. and is very dedicated and organized! Take her!!!
Dr. Byrd is by far the best professor I have ever had. There are so many professors that are passionate about their fields but its hard to find a professor who is equally passionate about teaching their expertise. I always looked forward to her lectures and walked away feeling confident in the material. She truly wants her students to succeed!
Took Professor Byrd for my Biology 1408 lab and she made it my favorite class to date! She's super kind and really cares about all of her students. She's always ready to help if you have questions or concerns. Take her!!
Dr. Byrd is nice and will work with you from my limited experience. You will learn in this class. The material itself is not hard to grasp but the amount of "work" makes it difficult to balance with three/four other courses. Be prepared to spend a solid two-three days focused on this class alone, she expects it.
Dr. Byrd is great! She tells stories and uses great analogies to help you understand. You really have to work hard. I mean 20 hours of biology a week, but it is necessary if you want to truly learn. Class was online so she recorded the lectures. Go back and watch them because you definitely missed a point or more. No pain no gain. Put in the time.
Prof very knowledgeable! But dont take the class unless you have 30+ hours to put the work in to do all the assignments or you'll fail!! I had to decide between taking time for myself or finishing all her hw! I never review but after the hell I went through last semester I had to bc these other reviews are not being brutally honest!
Too much busy work and not enough time to study. Not impressed with this prof.
The amount of homework she gives is absolutely insane. Quizzes, assignments, group projects, readings... She wants you to love biology as much as she does. Lab project is very rushed. If you have a question about the assignment, be ready to do it on your own because she doesn't answer emails on time and the deadline can pass by then. SLOW GRADER.
THE WORST!!!!!!!!!! tons of assignments and quizzes and papers and all kind of CRAP!!!!!! if you missed something you will FAIL! i didn't understand a word she said! HEAVY LEC. JUST DONT TAKE HER THE WORST.
had to drop because it was ton of work! took it with another professor and passed with an A :) i was making a D in her class!
So much busy work. Boring lectures. Very passionate about biology and cares about students. So much so much work
I don't care what anyone says, Professor Byrd was by far the best teacher I have ever had in college. Not only does she really care for her students and their well-being, but she is dedicated to help all individuals succeed in her class. I would definitely recommend taking any course from Professor Byrd!
This is a passionate teacher who really cares about students and the material she is teaching. I learned a ton and enjoyed taking this class.
Dr. Byrd is an amazing teacher who is extremely passionate about the subject. Be sure to set aside a lot of time to this class and study, study, study. She tells you from the start that it is a lot of work, so be sure to always pace yourself so you don't fall behind. She is extremely kind and willing to help. If you put in 110% you will do great!!
took Dr.Byrd a couple years back, I will graduate w a BS in Biology soon and she is the reason I fell inlove with Bio. I liked her class so much that I went back to be her SI for a year and sat through the lectures again. By far the best Prof I had throughout my undergrad years.
I truly enjoyed her class. I took biology in high school, as everyone does, and I SUCKED. I decided to take a gamble on this class, and let me tell you, I am now studying Biology at university! Yes, it may be a good amount of work, but I never found it to be an excessive amount. She wants you to succeed. Ask questions, DO NOT PROCRASTINATE and try!
Okay, she gives extra credit for getting together with other people outside of class to study. Amazing for college. My high school AP Biology was harder and required me to learn more. The lab project was group do it on your own. Reminded me of a bad science fair project. Truly disappointed.
Dr. Byrd is awesome! I learned so much in her class, and she really cares about how you do. She was available for extra help too.
There is really only a handful of instructors that I genuinely enjoy having- and Dr. Byrd is one of them. Despite the (sometimes hellish) amount of time and effort you'll have to set aside for this class, you learn a lot and have an amazing instructor to help you if you need it! Pace yourself, work hard, and get that extra credit while you're at it
Dr. Byrd was super friendly and knowledgeable. Watching her lectures shows how much she loves biology, and I think it made me feel more excited about it too! She's tough but fair--you'll have to work hard to earn an A. I recommend you take full advantage of the extra credit opportunities and take notes over the lesson outlines.
Her lectures were pretty bland and most things she taught us we didn't need to know? like teach us the things we need to know to help us pass our test. She went through the slides so fast most people would just take pictures on their phone and go over the PowerPoint themselves. Overall I recommend taking a different professor.
Dr Byrd is the best! Her lectures were very engaging and informative. The syllabus was clear from day one. This course definitely took a lot of homework and studying but Dr Byrd made it achievable. The study guides, vocab project, and discussion questions were super helpful! She gives extra credit for being in a study group and it can help a lot!
Professor Byrd is super passionate about bio which is super cool! Overall she makes the class super entertaining. My only note would be that she goes VERY fast. When she is lecturing you don't even have time to write what you need from the powerpoint. She gives out plenty of extra credit and is super accessible.
She is okay for a community college. Not for preparation for university science classes. Yes, a lot of extra credit but does not get you ready for what comes after.
Donot take this professor She has obsession with Biologyand expects every1 to know everything before she teaches horrible tests almost 65 questions and wants handwritten super long discussion questions. For the second last test, onlytaught 2 chapters and tested on 4 No matter how much xtra credit udo she never gives points u deserve n gaslights u
she changes the slides too quickly and even though they are online, she keeps talking and you miss what she's saying. she puts a lot on her slides so its hard to tell whats important. expects 12-15 hrs a week just for her class but when you're taking other classes and have responsibilities, its a lot. positive: gives a lot of extra credit
Dr. Byrd is probably one of the strangest professors I've had so far. Its not like she's a bad professor, she's actually quite knowledgeable in biology. Except, most people take her for non science major biology courses. Such as myself, Yet. she has crazy expectations for you that just isnt worth all the trouble nor the credits. She's very extreme.
Dr. Byrd is one of the best professors I've ever taken. I took this class expecting to be terrible at biology, but she showed through examples that it just takes some studying, and I also had a lot of fun in her class. She grades a little heavy, but is very educative when it comes to the matter. I implore all biology majors here school to take her.
Lots to complain about. Overall, she's very disorganized, lots of typos. Her resources have nothing to do with what we're actually learning. Gaslights you into thinking that you've already learned things when you haven't. 5 tests + mandatory final, lowest grade gets dropped UNLESS final is lowest. Non majors class, expects majors level dedication.
so unorganized & sporadic. long tests and handwritten questions (6-7 pages). expects u to study 20 hrs per week to pass. gives extra credit but it's not worth much with the way she grades. will gaslight u into thinking she's being generous with your grade. nice human, but this class will be impossible if ur taking any other classes or have a job.
Extremely difficult for a non-majors class. 5 exams (mandatory final included), and a project.15+ hours per week studying necessary, good luck with any other responsibilities. Rarely ever did i find her in her office during her office hours and most time her resources don't work. Also, if you miss a day of lecture you will be extremely behind.
None of the other reviews are lying! A non-majors course, workload and studying time feels like a majors course. Tests: 20Q written+50 MC, big project, EC given but mainly just to get a few points & have to work for each point, didn't need textbook, never in office, gives dry answers on TEAMS, none at all, leaves you on read. Learned a lot though.
Dr. Byrd's BIO1406 is challenging, but her passion for the subject is evident. With Unstuck AI and diligent effort, I gained a deep understanding of biology and now love the field. Definitely worth the hard work!
I love Dr. Byrd as a person, but the bio for majors class was the worst college class I've taken by far. We were assigned more work than my government, history, and comp class combined and it was impossible to keep up with. Also, if you don't have friends in the class to work with I would say that you shouldn't expect to pass. Don't take the class.
Dr. Byrd is nice. Responded quickly to my e-mails (with one exception), though wish she updated things without my asking. Bio quizzes every week were made better with her going over the quiz ahead of time, same for the tests. Lessons were decently engaging as well as the interactive activities. Definitely respected by many.
She was the best professor. I would just advise to show up to labs. There are weekly labs and as long you pay attention in lecture its easy material to retain
