Very well organized and together, also has an interesting insight into her work given that she has two kids that are the exact developmental stage that her course focuses on. That and she's really CUTE too!
Lagattuta is very new but is a good professor. Her complete reliance on her overheads make taking notes and even attending class a bit pointless, which doesn't help learning. Overall tho she is good.
She's Great!
She has her lectures on powerpt she posts beforehand. She has experience in what she's teaching, which is always good. Study the lecture notes carefully for the tests. Good teacher and good class.
i took my first year and it was kind of confusing. I was doing poorly in her class and went to her office hours she help with my study habits a little and i ended up passing her class
her tests were harder than they should be. she likes to cram a lot of material in every lecture, and she's very uptight. her kids are cute, though, and she seems like a nice person. TAs were very nice. again, her tests suck. she's horrible at wording multiple choice.
She is very organized but also very difficult. She expects you to know the niddy griddy and overall is a good professor. But I wouldn't take her again.
Great class. Hot TAs
Nice, somewhat engaging. Overall a good teacher butu could get lengthy. Test were decent, but then again I didnt read, got a B. The paper helps, although they are nit-picky, if you can write! Helpful if you go into office hours too! She likes what shes teaching!!!
all i do is stare at the hot TA's
Go to lecture and study everything on the study guide and the tests are easy. MC is on the difficult side but balanced out with easy short-answer (if you go to lecture, you'll get 100%). Paper is intimidating but not that bad. Interesting lectures, she incorporates videos that are relevant.
Great prof, bad lecturer. She spends 80% of class time talking about the "miracle of life", so for the tests you have to study like crazy because all you have in lecture notes are her VERY BIASED thoughts on parenting. Comes off as very ditzy because of this. Kind of easy class. She teaches from a "parent" perspective instead of "psychologist" LAME
she's a pretty good prof. one of the best i've had. her lectures are really long though
Dr. Lagattuta is one of the best profs I've ever had. Not just incredibly book smart, but she has practical experience too. Great lectures, cares how students do.
outstanding professor. loved the class. great video examples.
really likes her subject. good examples and explaination of EVERYthing. you know whats gonna be on the tests and theres always help. good stuff
Took her 140 and 141 class in the same quarter and have to admit, it was very challenging for me but that's because I work 20-25 hours/week. Still proud of the grades I got (B & B-). The writing assgnments seem challenging but dont fret, TAs and Prof are very personable and willing to help. Read and follow study guide and exams will be easy
One of my favorite classes and professors at UCD!
Class was pretty basic- 4 tests, drop the lowest one plus one essay. The essay was easily graded, the tests are a little tricky, not impossible. They aren't curved. You do have to read the book to do well on the test. She gives her notes to us. There's way too much info in each class- as many as 9 single spaced pages each day. Overall, very so-so.
Overall good professor. Did come across a little ditzy but I think it's really just because she's cute and blonde. She seems to know the material very well and for many people this is a contradiction. Go to class, skim the book and you'll be fine.
I absolutely adored professor Lagattuta. She says "interesting" a lot. Exams aren't too hard, can be kind of tricky if you don't thoroughly learn the material. The paper is easy, essentially a free boost to your grade. Shows videos sometimes. Attend lecture, read the book, do the paper, and you should do fine.
Excellent class. Great video examples. Smart and fun teacher.
I loved all the youtube/home videos she shows to supplenment the material. I wish she was teaching another class! I went to class everyday, took notes, skimmed the book the night before(a few questions come solely from there, and ended up getting an A! I didn't think I'd be interested in development but this turned out to be one of my fave classes!
Class isn't hard at all. She posts her lecture notes online, printing them & bringing them to class works best. I read book & went to class & got an A. You can pass with at least a B without going to class & not reading. Make sure to studying her lecture notes. Also kinda cute.
Great professor. She made the class interesting with home videos and documentaries. I really enjoyed this class more than expected. There are 4 exams, drops the lowest. I did the reading but I don't think it was necessary, going to class def helped though because some things/videos aren't in the online slides.
Great professor, easy class. You know what's expected of you, attendance isn't mandatory, tests are multiple guess. Read exactly what is assigned and you will do fine.
I loved this class and Dr. Lagatutta is my favorite professor. Exams aren't too difficult. She posts notes online-print them and bring to class. Attend lecture and read book and you'll do great!
Great teacher, class was actually reasonably difficult. She is helpful and wants her students to do well, take her for Developmental if you want the challenge. Oh and she's hot, another bonus.
she is amazing. i had no interest in developmental psych but it was the only thing that would fit into my schedule and it ended up being my favorite class. tests are easy if you go to lecture and skim the book, and she shows lots of videos to make it interesting. great class! easy too
Dr. KHL = awesome instructor! very engaging, veRY attractive. study book + attend lectures + take notes = pass tests;68 Q's each no problemo. 4 exams, drop lowest. if u don't understand a concept, don't be afraid to ask her Q's or come to office hrs. she's very sweet. her TAs also. great personality.i like when she laughs. highly recommended, yes =)
Absolutely loved this class. She definitely knows what she's talking about and was able to give a thoughtful answer on the spot to anyone who asked a question. Engaging lectures, interesting information. Very likeable, approachable professor. Highly recommended.
Really good at explaining things and is clear about what is expected. The study guides she posts are very helpful to prepare for exams. That said, there's something about her exams that makes them rather difficult. Probably has to do with my lack of interest in developmental psychology. Can't. Handle. Social. Science.
Dr. Lagattuta is a very knowleagable and nice professor. She is very approachable and knows a lot about Developmental psychology. She often uses videos of her children to demonstrate related topics in this field. However her exams are very detailed and specific. Be sure you study her lectures really closely for each exams and also read the textbook
While I find developmental psychology to be fairly boring, Professor Lagatutta really makes lectures enjoyable. The material is fairly easy but there's a decent amount of memorization.
Lectures can get boring, but she uses videos of her children which make it more enjoyable. Her midterms are fair, but some questions are tricky. There's a lot of information required to memorize, but the subject is interesting. She is very helpful & approachable. I liked her wayyy more than my TA (Dana). She doesn't podcast, but she should.
Dr. Lagatutta is very knowledgable and open to questions. Her own interest in the subject makes students more interested, as well. However, this class is EXTREMELY HARD. Tests are tricky not because of the material, but because of the format (a&b? all of the above? which is false?). The wording of her q's and answers is tricky too.
This class is interesting and Lagatutta is a great professor, however the structure of her exams don't seem to test your knowledge of the material. Format is tricky. Don't take this class if you want an A. Getting a B is average, though
She's a thorough lecturer and knows her stuff. Very engaging class and she uploads PPTs before lecture. I got a lot of help in office hours and she's very approachable. The tests are ticky but you'll get the hang of them. If I had to take the class again, I would go with Kristin.
Dr. Lagatutta was honestly my favorite professor I have ever had. Not only did she make the class extremely entertaining with videos of her own children and other children, I learned a lot more than I thought I could about child development. The class is NOT hard- just go to class and look over the notes before tests. I highly recommend this class!
I can't say that it's a hard class because if you study enough it really isn't. I guess I wasn't too big of a fan of the subject but she still made it interesting and I feel like I have a better appreciation for the topic now. Overall, good lecturer and not too difficult of tests. However, she is a fan of "all the above" and "C&D" type answers.
Overall great class and teacher! She really knows the subject and is helpful during office hours, so def go! 3 midterms + final (drops lowest). Very reasonable with her grading system. Must read book and really understand material to do well! Otherwise very interesting stuff and not too difficult.
Her lectures are interesting and fun when she includes videos of her kids to demonstrate concepts. She is helpful during office hours and grading system is more than fair. Her tests are tricky, her questions have A&B options, all of the above, and none of the above. The material isn't difficult, but she makes it difficult on the test. STUDY HARD.
The material is pretty self-explanatory you just need to memorize basically everything that is on the slides, I didn't spend time reading the book just studied the slides.
Material is straightforward and easy to understand. Exams are a bit tricky sometimes because she uses the A&B AB&C choices but they are doable as long as you study the powerpoints and read the textbook. Be aware that she does also like to test you on specific ages in which certain behaviors appear. Pretty enjoyable class!
Her lectures and grading criteria are crystal clear. All I did was attend lecture and complete the study guides and I walked out with a decent grade. If you miss a couple lectures, it's not going to be the end of the world- this is where the textbook helps! DO THE STUDY GUIDES! They are great for review.
Best Psych Professor I've had at UCD. She's a mom so she relates well to students, and realizes that you have other priorities besides her class. 3 midterms with optional final. Lectures are long but she keeps you interested. GO TO CLASS for clarity & fill out study guides along the way and you will do well. Overall she was awesome.
She is definitely passionate about the subject, and loves to show videos of her kids which is awesome (and adorable). Her tests have a lot of questions from the book, so skimming at least is helpful. She's also a fan of "a and b" "all of the above" "none of the above" choices on tests, so know the material well! Overall interesting and fun class
Awesome professor! She was a fantastic lecturer and is such a lovely person. Really cares about students and adjusts the grading scale to our benefit. LOVED the videos of her kids (SO CUTE). Tricky tests. You really have to know your stuff so pay attention in class and take notes! LOVED the material. By far my favorite class of the quarter.
I had Dr. Lagattuta for Developmental Psyc and she was great. Her class is very interesting- she provides home videos that funny and related to the course material. She takes the time to answer questions. Great class overall! Make sure to go to lectures, do the study guides and got to the review sessions- they are extremely helpful
I liked this class. Three large midterms (68 questions) and a final, but the final is optional. It replaces your lowest midterm score, so if you like your grade after the three tests, no final! That was nice. The class is PACKED with information, so attend lectures, review slides often, and you should do well! I think she podcasts too.
I loved Dr. Lagattuta's class, it was pretty basic early developmental psych stuff but she made the lectures lively and interesting. The tests are tough, as others have mentioned, so prepare to really put some study time in as there are a lot of stages, developmental milestones, and ages to remember. Would take again.
All you need to do for this class is to go to class, take notes, memorize the slides (90% of questions come from the slides), and skim the book for topic not cover in class but are on the study guides. This class is not difficult if you study a bit.
Very nice, entertaining professor. Knowledgable of the subject. Tests are easy and she drops the lowest score. Lagattuta's lectures are very vital to the tests bc she shows videos and discusses research studies in class that appear on the test. Also, she shows fun videos of her kids!
This class was NOT easy, unless you have photographic memory. She expects you to straight up MEMORIZE the material and just knowing concepts will not get you anywhere. She tests on the SMALLEST details, so you better know her lectures WORD FOR WORD, or else those "A and B are true" choices will get you.
Professor Lagattuta is amazing! Her lectures are amazing and very critical. If you don't go to lectures you most likely won't pass her exams. The exam questions are very comprehensive so you have to make sure that you understand things that she talks about. If you ever do have questions she will gladly answer them and help you out. Shes great!
LAGATTUTA IS THE BEST. She's super intelligent and passionate about developmental psychology, so the lectures are really engaging. She's clear and fair on her exams (you can rely on the lecture slide and get an A, or you can get the book too if you'd like). Amazing professor, highly recommend, and I would definitely take her again!
Absolutely amazing professor who loves what she does and loves sharing it with students. Attend class and pay attention to do well, read the book if you want to make sure you get an A. Very accessible outside of class and I would sometimes attend OH just to hear all of her stories about her life and her kids. One of the best professors I've had.
tests are tricky. you have to know material from the textbook and lecture to do well. keep up with everything. a little bit of everything on the test.
This class was interesting and the professor is really sweet but I didn't think the tests were fair. Most psychology classes if you study the lectures you can get an A on the tests. This wasn't the case for this class. The test questions were tricky and asked about minor details that I didn't think were relevant to my understanding of the material.
Her lectures are AMAZING! Tests are a bit difficult, but as long as you spend time on the study guide and incorporate the info from the book to answer the questions, you should be fine. The final is optional!
Be ready to read textbook if you are planning to take this class. She does provide study guide to help you study. The exam are difficult mostly because the wording is confusing and the answers sometimes look similar to each other. She likes to test the details. Tons of information to memorize. Overall, the class is challenging but can learn alot
Okay professor. Likes to show videos in class that she will not provide outside of class, and then tests you on them. Tests you on every single detail, even if it's not relevant. Be ready to read and memorize minute details to do well in the class. 4 MT/final and drops the lowest one. Offers 5 EC points for being a research subject.
You can study your hardest, attend class, be engaged, and still not get an A in Dr. Lagattuta's class. Everything that would get you an A in every other PSC class isn't enough here. This is my first B+. Her exams are so specific and difficult. Doesn't podcast lectures so don't ever skip class.
Based on the reviews that were posted before I took the class, I was not so confident that I would end up doing well in this class. However, Dr. Lagattuta makes class interesting and explains the concepts very well using examples from her children. The class was very interesting, but the tests are long and can sometimes be tricky.
More content that your usual PSC class (hence the increase in difficulty), but it's very manageable and the tests are pretty fair. Solid class and professor.
I've taken Lagattuta before and genuinely enjoyed Developmental Psychology although her tests were super hard and I barely passed the class.. I took PSC 192 last quarter with her which was completely online however she was so condescending and rude in her emails and her TA Hannah Kramer was even worse.
One of the best lecturers I've had at UCD. Class is very straightforward. She uses stories about her own kids to demonstrate concepts which makes the class fun and gives it a personal touch. Extremely fair grader and makes her expectations very clear from the get-go. Very open to questions. Just a really nice, approachable, smart instructor.
The lectures were pretty heavy but super easy to understand, and she explains the material really well and is very approachable. Her exams are also fairly easy if you put in enough time for studying. I would definitely recommend her for this class!
She is so smart. But this class was very difficult with a lot of material to know for each exam-- Need to definitely read the textbook or else you won't do well. I studied really hard for this class and still found the exams to be extremely tricky. Other than that, she is a great professor.
Her exams are incredibly difficult. Many of her questions are intentionally deceptive, and test incredibly minute details. Reading the textbook is more than necessary, even though she insists that is not the case. Her lectures are incredibly dry as she reads off of the slides, which makes attending class almost pointless.
It's a pretty typical lecture-based psych class. You MUST read the textbook to do well and there is a whole lot to read. Not sure how it'd be in person, but online she offered plenty of extra credit, and 5 exams. If you're not too interested in child psych, it's a bit hard to stay focused. Overall, pretty good!
Good professor. Approachable in OH and willing to have conversations. Slides and textbook complement each other well. Made it easy for students to score while also making us learn. Quizzes are easy if you prepare well. Engaging content supplemented by relevant studies. Maybe should keep politics out of classroom but thats my only gripe.
I loved taking Dr. Lagattuta's class! Her lectures were interesting and she was very passionate. She even showed us videos of her children and related the content within those videos to the lectures! However, I must say, her exams are tough because you're tested on small details. Not an easy A, but doable if you put in the time & work
I absolutely loved Dr. Lagattita’s class! Her lectures are amazing and are most of the test material with a few reading questions sprinkled in. The tests were totally doable so long as you go to lecture and have access to the book for reference. She was super thorough and had great examples for the material, also super respectful of our time.
Dr. Lagattuta is an awesome lecturer and professor. Her class is based on 5 exams and 3 extra credit opportunities. Exams are manageable as long as you attend lecture (only few book-based questions) and take notes, although wording on questions can be tricky. Would definitely recommend if you need to take/are interested in Developmental Psychology!
Love her! The exams were easy if you watched lectures, and they're open book! There was also a lot of opportunity for extra credit! Take her class!!
She is absolutely amazing, her lectures are easy to understand and her exams are also directly from the lecture and the textbook. Our grade is determined by 5 exams, one every two weeks covering 2-3 lectures each with no cumulative final. She also gives out extra credit assignments and extends the due date when needed.
Prof Lagattuta offered to drop our lowest exam grade when that was not originally stated on the syllabus. Exams were manageable, as long as you have your lecture notes/slides with you. Exams had a few textbook questions, but you could definitely get by without the textbook. She shows videos and photos of her family during lecture. She is amazing!
Very nice professor that keeps lectures very simple which is appreciated because there's a lot to cover in Dev Psych. There are 5 exams covering a couple chapters each which are very fair if you watch the lectures and do the study guides. She provides extra credit and even drops your lowest exam. Take her, it's really easy to do well in her class.
Very interesting lectures filled with home videos and cool experiments regarding developmental psych. Only graded by 5 exams, lowest was dropped. 3 extra credit assignments that were very easy. Overall great prof who rlly cared about students. She even donated in our name to UCD for filling out course evals and gave more extra credit for that
I really enjoyed this class and the professor was so kind. Her lectures were easy to understand, the exams were straight forward, and offered extra credit. Attendance wasn't mandatory and the lectures would be recorded. Would definitely take again!
She tests on concepts instead of details. She is an EXCELLENT lecturer. I enjoy listening to her lecture, and her stories of her child are hilarious. She has great knowledge of her field. When discussing topics that she isn't that familiar with, she shows respect to her TA who knows more about it. I feel that she is a humble and admirable person.
Amazing professor! She really cares about the topic and cares that her students pass. Extra credit opportunities. Grade based on all tests, but there is study guides that are super helpful!
Professor Lagattuta was one of my favorite courses that I took last quarter. Her lectures and study guides she provides are always easy to follow and comprehensible, and the stories and examples she shares about her kids are so entertaining. Would recommend!
Fantastic professor. Wasn't super interested in developmental psychology but professor made it interesting with her stories and lecturing. Class had 5 exams that were difficult but she gives very good study guides and I did really well after following those for studying. Would definitely take her again given the chance.
Dr. Lagattuta is amazing! Her lectures are interesting with great examples to help you understand the content. 5 open note exams (50 pts each) with the opportunity to get 6 points extra credit, she wants her students to succeed so let us retake the exams during finals week to improve our grades. Attendance isn't mandatory & lectures are recorded
Professor Lagattuta is a good teacher and an overall kind person! Due to it being a rough quarter for many students, she extended the deadlines for all exams and extra credit. Great professor!
She's probably the GOAT- you're graded by 5 open note unit tests (50 points each) and you get 3 opportunities for extra credit (2 points each) for a total of 256 points in the class. Lectures aren't mandatory but you won't regret going. Tests are going to be a mix of lectures and the textbook, in my experience they leaned more towards the lectures.
Honestly, Professor Lagattuta saved me from dropping out of UC Davis. I deeply appreciated her care and understanding for students who have outside obligations as well as a love for teaching that is reflected in her lectures. Lectures not mandatory but very helpful. Five exams that aren't too difficult if you prepare efficiently.
IF YOU HAVE THE CHANCE TAKE THIS PROFESSOR! You will not regret it. She's super understanding and is respected by everyone this quarter bc she actually helps her students by working towards trying to get our grades up. Lectures are recorded and study guide provided for exams. The way this class is structured motivates me to learn in the class/
Amazing professor watch the lectures and take light notes on them and you will get an A. That simple. Her info is useful and her lectures are not boring at all. One of the few classes at Davis I genuinely enjoyed. Take her!
Great prof who cares about student success. Lectures are engaging, with helpful study guides. Exams are challenging but fair - unstuck study was a lifesaver for prep. Highly recommend this course!
Genuinely such a gem to this world. She really wants nothing more than for her students to succeed. Funny lectures, super engaging. 5 exams but easy if you pay attention. Also extra credit opportunities given throughout the quarter. TAKE HER TRUST ME you will enjoy yourself and be able to get that A.
Professor Lagattuta is very understanding of student's school-life balance. Great lecturer as well! Graded by 5 exams, as long as you pay attention, fill out the study guide, and do some light studying you will easily be able to get the grade you want. Offers a bunch of extra credit which is nice, but not even necessary for a good score. 10/10!!
Amazing professor! Graded by 5 exams only... but gives great extra credit options. No cumulative final, very kind professor and good TAs too. Attendance isn't mandatory. Exams are all online and not difficult if you study and take good notes, the median of most exams would be A-B range. Only downside if you're not good at taking exams.
Prof. Lagattuta is the best! She clearly cares about the subject a lot and uses personal anecdotes in her lectures which makes it more engaging. The class has 5 online exams, no cumulative final, and all the exams are open note/book. She offers extra credit opportunities throughout the class, and offers it for the course evaluations.
One of the best psych professors I've taken at Davis. Her and the TA's are extremely caring and involved with the material. Class is only graded by 5 exams but they're online and extra credit is offered after. She really just wants you to learn the material instead of worrying about your grade. Definitely take!!!
so nice, people had bad mental heatlh so she opened up extra credit. let us retake exams too. all online, class recorded. so nice. went fast in lecture but makes up for it. she is an angel!
The only downside to this class with Prof Lagattuta is that her lectures are done really fast and your grade is highly dependent on the 5 tests. With that being said her lectures are engaging (videos + personal references), everything is open note and she offers 3 extra credit opportunities. Take any class offered by her, she's great!
One of the nicest prof. I've ever had! Only assignments are 5 Exams but they are open book/ note. She is very kind to her students and her lectures include a lot of examples from her personal life which really helped with some of the content. If she was teaching the rest of my classes here at Davis I would not complain. I loved her!
Not sure what else to say besides that Professor Lagattuta... amazing professor. Her lectures are very informative and engaging, and what's required for this course is very straightforward. Five open-note exams, extra credit opportunities, and the ability to retake exams during finals week. A solid developmental psychology course. Highly recommend!
