Professor Lassonde is awesome ! How could not love her ! If you pay attention, participate, and do your homework then you'll be fine. She is easy to contact and always interacts with her students. Taking her again next semester !
Online homework & exams means time wasted typing in math symbols. Goes over a few problems then has students teach themselves in groups while she & tutor moves from group to group; resulting in slow learning. Too much homework that weighs little while tests weigh very heavily for overall grade. Students tested on material not taught yet. DON'T TAKE
Professor Lassonde is great! I have never had an instructor who was so involved and concerned with my success as Professor Lassonde. She would return my texts all through the night. I have more confidence in myself as a student than I had previously, because of her belief in my ability. I whole heartedly urge serious students to take her class.
this was my first semester back at college, and professor Lassonde made my math experience a breeze ! I am horrible at math, but she showed me otherwise ! She is always available(24/7) to help, gives tons of extra credit, and is an overall great professor ! So great that I am now in her Math120 class !! I am working to get another A !
Professor Lassonde is patient and is always avaiable via text, email and she even has office hours Monday through Friday. She really cares that her students understand the materiel and regularly checks up on you to see if there's anyway she can help you improve. I learned so much from her class I'm taking another course from her this semester!
Her math and computer knowledge is good. However, she can't relate to students. She will harass you with tons of emails and text messages. She doesn't teach much, mostly just group work.
I hate giving this professor a bad rating but it is necessary. I took math 118 with professor Lassonde and got a good grade but it was the hardest thing I have ever done. Math is very hard and I appreciate professor Lassonde for being hands on and understanding. She is a great teacher if she find a new approach she would be one of the best.
Honestly the worst professor Ive ever had. All of the work is online yet its an on campus class. Math assignments and exams are meant to be taken on paper and graded by a person, not a computer. She assigns an insane ammount of work. Very rude and hard to communicate with. Short tempered with bad teaching skills. DO NOT TAKE HER!
After skipping 120 plenty of times i was able to retake this class trying out a new teacher. Prof Lassonde gives you plenty of homework to do but if you do what is mandatory, it will help out soo much in tests. She gives out practice tests that really help with the actual test once you do the corrections. She also takes her time to explain herself.
Ive never met a greater professor than Lassonde in Mathematics. She is very care about her students and being very responsible with her teaching. For example, she might call or text you when you absent her class for one time, and always on time. The way she teaches is very unique and technological such as using all online materials
Lassonde is a great teacher! I had her for pre cal & she lets us work in group to understand the subject at hand. She is a great help outside of class. She gives you a lot of free time in class to ask her or your classmates to clarify any questions you have. WILL TAKE HER AGAIN.
took Lassonde for Cal after taking her precalc class because she's a great teacher. She goes different ways to approach the lesson when you don't understand and she lets you work with your classmates. Most of the time, you're learning the material after she lectures and that's a good thing because professors don't do that these days.
Quizes are sometimes tough but she gives good feedback. Sometimes its irritating on how many correction she asks. Either wise she is cool.
Very helpful on topics that can confuse students and very open to any questions. She prepares you for her exams very promptly with the practice exams and corrections. Early final was also very helpful for not having to worry about other finals on the same week. Overall a great help with the topic and making sure people don't fall behind in class.
I enjoyed the class the whole semester. Although I fooled around a lot with my friends, professor lassonde never mistook my childish behavior for stupidity. She beloved in all of her students and supported each and every one of them with whatever they had troubles with in regards to calculus. If I were to take calculus again Id choose her any day.
As long as you're on task and do good on exams it's an easy A
Math is usually a boring subject for me but Professor Lassonde made sure that it's always fun to learn. She asks you "question?" here and there to make sure that you are on track, and pairs you up with a partner to learn better. You can always reach her outside of class because she cares about you and your grade.I would definitely take for again!
I appreciate her ability to clarify the material from the book Into simple steps during lecture, so notes are essential in this class. She's pretty clear and never boring. Also, gives a lot of extra credit opportunities through proof of participation. What I love from her class the most is the opportunity given to retake exams.
Best Professor Ive ever been with , She gives us all the opportunity to get A, she also tell you what kind of questions youre gonna get in exams and prepare of it. She do practice exam first , then actual exam so it make things a lot easier.
Whether you are retaking Calculus or taking it for the first time, I would recommend Professor Lassonde to all students. Her lectures are straight-forward and I feel quite confident about taking Calc2 in the summer. When we attend class each day, there is no time to waste since we always just get to the point which is something I would highlight.
Very nice and explains topics well.
she's the best teacher i never had. She's caring and so helpful. i would like her to teach me calculus II.
If you want a caring mentor to guide you through all hard steps on your Calculus life. She is the one.
I cannot speak highly enough of Professor Lassonde. She is truly such a gem of a professor. Throughout her class, she provided refresher classes for students that were rusty on their pre-calculus fundamentals to ensure success in the class. She is understanding, enthusiastic, and brings hot cocoa on exam days! Highly recommend her class!
Professor Lassonde was amazing. My course was online and She helped me a lot with my homework out side the class. Anytime I texted her, she answered quickly. Her schedule was flexible. I will take calculus with her again because Im sure Im gonna learn so much things
Professor Lassonde is a real chill instructor. She roller blades and wears an unicorn helmet, so yeah! Anyways in terms of her teaching style, it's really a lot of DIY in class. You do the homework and try your luck on the exams. She allows retakes if you didn't score high enough. However, you'll really need to study!
the classes are really interactive but the students need to pay attention and practice a lot of problems.
Mrs. Lassonde gives out a lot of homework for practice, however its not weighted heavily. Most of the points are in the exams which she allows retakes on including the final. Students need to turn in corrections for the previous exam in order to be eligible for a retake. Ultimately Lassonde just wants students to understand the course material.
This was my first time getting an A in math! There's a lot of work like Correction's but I was really prepared for the exam.
Shes the best professor to take calculus with!! Approachable and ready to teach. She also makes you get a partner to work with during class work. Its a lot of homework but doing it helps prepare you for the exams.
Kristin always made me feel dumb in class and when asking for help during office hours. She treats her students like kids. Stops class to play with puzzles. She humiliated me in front of the class and makes you waste so much paper with test corrections. Get 4 problems wrong in a test? Be prepared to do double the amount of what you get wrong. Luck!
Professor Lassonde is a great teacher with a kind heart as well. She was always there for me no matter what time it was and always went the extra mile for us students in her class. Her policy on retaking tests made all the difference for me to get an A. You just have to put in the work on the corrections but that is what helps you learn.
One of the best math teachers I've had. Class is rarely boring with outgoing personality and she truly cares if you are understanding the material and will take the time to help you. Her lectures are clear and she does a TON of examples in class. She literally doesn't want to let you fail but you have to put in the work and show her you're trying.
Professor Lassonde really helped me get through Calculus. I recommend this class to anyone who wants to improve their math skills and get good grades. As long as you put in the extra work, the professor is willing to give extra credit. She is also very caring and easy to reach out through email/text and also very responsive in class.
Although the class was tough, Professor Lassonde did warn us that it was going to be a full time class. She was easily accessible by email or text and was very kind. Her help wasnt always completely clear but it was enough. Plenty of bonuses so it was easy to make up for exams you didnt do too good on. One of the best math classes Ive taken.
She is a good teacher and is always realiable to communicate with in outside hours .
It's sad that I have to write this comment about prof. Lassonde. I like her as a person, but not my professor. Her lecture is boring and doesn't make sense to me. I mostly learn from reading the book and YouTube. I like the group work because I actually learn from my classmates. I hope that I don't have her again in Calculus II.
Prof Lassonde is great, she taught and explained everything so thoroughly even though the class was online. There is tons of extra credit available, and the practice exams are very similar to the actual exams. Do all the work and study, show up to class and you will do well. She responds quickly to emails as well.
Asynchronous calculus class. Exams are closely proctored and you have to explain your answers to the camera to receive full credit- if she doesnt like your scratch paper work or how you explained it, youll get the answer wrong despite never showing the class her preference of doing the problem. Very passive aggressive teacher if you ask for help.
I thought Professor Lassonde was a great math professor. She always made sure to answer everyone's questions during her zoom lectures. She gave a practice exam and two final exams in case we didn't pass the first one. Be prepared to do the homework and corrections on missed answers from the exams.
At first it was great but when the semester was coming to a close, she became a hassle to learn from. If you don't do certain assignments her way, she will make you redo it until she says its okay. If you don't explain your answers and show work during the finals, you will not get full credit. Overall, I have been stressed out this whole semester.
Don't take her class, you will regret it. She is very passive aggressive. Her grading policy isn't clear and she is not willing to work with you, especially during the pandemic.
Great Professor! I highly recommend taking her for Calculus 1. She gives a lot of homework because you need to do practice test corrections in order to take her test, but if you do this it will pay off. She's great at explaining problems and goes over any homework you ask her to. She's also fun, and super approachable.
Nightmare to work with. Semi clear with all her instructions & policies but becomes aggravated when they're misunderstood. Overly passive aggressive when communicating with her to the point where it's unfunny and borderline disrespectful. If you not good at math even in the slightest, DO NOT TAKE HER.
Even though I passed her class, I would not recommend her if you are not good in math and English is not your first language. Her assignments and grading policy were very confusing, especially the exam redo. To pass her class, I basically learned the materials on my own and from YouTube. She won't make time to help if you ask too many questions.
I learned all the material mostly by myself. Her grading policy is very confusing and at times it contradicted itself. Very passive aggressive the whole semester. The midterm and final were confusing as you were expected to explain your answer and if she did not like your explanation, you would get a zero in the problem and would not tell why.
Just 2 weeks in and I already felt not supported by the professor. It is a fully online course and she took too long to respond to my emails. Her syllabus is so long and confusing. I'm not sure if I want to continue taking the course with her. Stay away if you can.
Should have listened to the reviews. Very confusing grading policy. Overcomplicates everything and is very passive aggressive. Worst math class I've ever been in and I love math.
She was rude and not very helpful during the Zoom lecture. Avoid her.
She wasn't patient when I asked about her grading policies. Her exam redo isn't helpful. She is not responsive when I ask for extra help after the lecture.
Only fully asynchronous Calculus 1 course offered. Laughably long syllabus that is overcomplicated and contradictory. Both exams and their corrections in this course will be nitpicked beyond belief. When reaching out to Professor Lassonde, was met with nothing but unnecessary passive aggressiveness. Avoid at all cost!
As someone who has loved math, her class doesn't do justice to my love for it, and instead traumatized me with her approach to Calculus. Her tests not only require you to show your work but also require you to explain it too. Homework corrections also require you to write paragraphs to see what you did wrong. It's not worth taking the class.
Stay away from this professor. She is rude and not supportive at all.
She requires you to spend time on HW. I wouldn't mind if it's at least 1-2 hrs per week, but she made it 20 hrs. per week. Also terrible exam policies, as she requires you to show AND explain your work in front of a camera. Overall I felt like I'm taking an English class not a math class (but my English class is less strict than this).
I took this class over summer and it was condensed down to 6 weeks. It was well worth it. It was a lot of work and took a lot of focus was needed to complete the course but I do feel I was able to grasp the material and the lay out of the class was easy enough to follow. Its easy to miss material but Professor Lassonde communicated that.
She is not helpful during the support course. Avoid if your Algebra is weak!
Professor Lassonde is a really good professor. She provides her students with everything they need in the class, and gives amazing feedback and corrections on exams. Honestly, it all comes down to whether or not you're willing to work hard for the class.
The Professor was very helpful and understanding for the many situations that I was in and she understood and gave me some extra help. She even helped explain problems and helped me understand them better than I did before. I was grateful to have her as my professor.
Professor Lassonde is very supportive and keeps constant communication with the students. She uses a methodology where you learn from your mistakes, and then, she gives you the possibility to improve your grades. If you do homework and quizzes on time, you will be fine. She is very fair.
I really appreciated Prof. Lassonde caring and teaching style. Thank you so much for facilitating such a positive learning environment! For caring for the students and training them having growth mindset and for being so passionate when finding opportunities for us and giving us honest feedback to help us improve our skills. She is very good mentor.
Professor Lassonde was extremely supportive and reached out when needed and gave clear instructions as well as guidance. The workload was pretty big and it was hard completing all the homework near the end with corrections and finals too.Sometimes I had hard weeks, but just reading or watching the videos changed my mindset.
I think this was the most engaging online class without lecture This class made me feel almost as if I was in a real class or something equivalent. The professor was extremely easy to contact, which made the course so much easier and so much more engaging. One thing that this class could have more video lectures of people doing practice problems
This professor is not interested in helping students who are struggling with algebra. I am taking her class because it was the only one that was still open. I regret not signing up earlier to enroll in a class with a different professor. Do yourself a favor and sign up for classes earlier to avoid taking her class.
Don't take her class. She was never available to help me. As a result, I had to drop her class and delay my academic plan to transfer by next semester. This setback will make it harder for me to achieve my long-term goals, so I suggest you choose a different instructor if possible.
Professor Lassonde is a great professor and very understanding. She makes sure you learn from your mistakes and that you are given credit for making that effort. She makes it a point to keep you on track. I took this online, it's a lot of work like any math class, so make sure you're staying on top of it and reach out to her if you need anything!
The zoom meetings are too group work heavy for me but they're helpful if you're struggling on a section. There is one midterm and the final and there are study guides and practice exams for both which are nearly identical to the real exams. She rewards you for learning from your mistakes and it's easy to make up lost points.
There is an insane amount of coursework. DO NOT TAKE HER. Nitpicks at every correction you do so you have to do it again. Actually nitpicks on every assignment. This class had a lot of discussions even though its supposed to be aysnc. Policy is confusing grading also confusing. She makes your life harder for no reason.
Makes you feel like you are in an English class with how much writing you have to do. Don't take this teacher, you will spend a good chunk of your time having to write instead of doing math. This class has so much unnecessary assignments. Find a different teacher, this is not worth it at.
This teacher will make you work like crazy. If you don't do the work the way she likes it she will make you do it again until it satisfies her. Please, if anyone is reading this, read the other reviews do not take this class. Too much work, unclear policy, just bad and on top of everything else, she is rude!!
I like the retakes. It felt like I just had to learn, not do a high stress test
The course had a lot of videos to watch from different people, so it helped to not have to listen to the same type fi you didnt like it. She texts and is easy to ask questions if you dont understand something
the study guides and practice exams and corrections were a lot but they helped prepare me for the actuals exams whcih were then pretty easy.
This online class was the closest to a regular class I have ever had. The group work was a lot at first but when I got a good group it was a lot better. It was nice that she helped us get a group that we liked
She texts 24/7, it's pretty crazy how easy it is to reach her. And with the corrections and retakes, it is really easy to know what is on the tests and to get a good grade
This professor is rude and controlling to the point that I don't even want to have any interaction with her, knowing that it's either her way or the highway. I am working very hard to pass her class, hoping that no one has to deal with the stress I am experiencing right now. I just want to cry thinking about her class.
This Professor is so rude. You can communicate with her through texting but she is rude to you even when just asking for simple clarification. If you don't do problems in the way she wants you to do it, you will lose a lot of points even if you got the correct answer. Don't take this class.
I knew things were going wrong in Professor Lassonde's class as soon as I had to take several lengthy quizzes on her endless syllabus. On top of that she provides no lectures, and the homework system is confusing and nonsensically graded. Constant quizzes and tons of written work. And she'll start playing games with you if you get on her bad side.
Her class is really reasonable, but its easy to get overwhelmed with all the extra credit assignments, keep in mind theyre extra credit. A lot of work near the main the exams, which are a large part of the grade. Overall, stay on top of your work and she's a great professor.
I have a very strong love-hate relationship. There are a lot of extra-credit opportunities, you can miss the exam and make it up, and can turn in corrections to earn back the points. But I've had 12 hw assignments due at once. The amount of time you spend on the hw matters. Even if it's easy, you have to keep redoing it to rack up time. No lecture.
This professor is questionable. On one hand, she helps you get points back on tests you didn't too well on via Test Corrections. On the other, she'll post 12+ assignments in a week which you must complete. A whole lot of busy work once you understand the material. Not worth it unless needed.
Dont take the class if you cannot contribute to 20-40 hours a week to just homework alone. Some weeks had 6+ assignments due on the same day, graded heavily on very few things, makes you do corrections 3x if its not 100% her way, and very passive aggressive when you have questions. More than half her class dropped within 8 weeks so that says alot.
I have sent two emails within the span of a week and she is still not replying. Exams only have 4 questions so you're screwed if you mess two up. When my exam grade was down, she emailed me on what I would do to get it up. I said I would do the bonuses and she literally doubted me. She grades you on spending 18 hours a week on her assignments.
She's so hard to talk to. Every week, you have group work even though this was an asynchronous class. I hate that she would grade your corrections but the feedback was always because she didn't like the way I solved it. She also grades the scratch paper you use on the exam and requires you to verbally explain to the camera how you solved it. Why.
Don't even take her. First of all the amount of assignments is ridiculous. If you don't revise your work the way she wants you will get an incomplete even if you took hours on it.
She's so nitpicky about your exam scratch paper. You have to format it a certain way and answer it in a specific way. If she doesn't like how you solved the problem, you get points taken off. Then you have to explain how you solved your answer to the camera. There's only 4 problems on the exam so if you can't solve it in her way, you only get 50%.
Always sent my work back,Picked out smallest details or errors,Docked off sm random points,Made me redo assignments over and over,LOADS of work-almost impossible to balance life w her class,Unclear feedback,Had an attitude. When I didn't understand something, she'd ask me why I didn't go ask a CCC tutor instead of helping me. Extremely stressful..
There were 4 questions on the final. I got all the answers right (program showed), except for the fact that I didn't explain my answer well or something because I got a 61% on my final. I spent 20 mins explaining my answer to the camera as clearly and did it all in the way that she wanted and I still got a 61%? Stay away. Run. Do not take her.
Not good at teaching, shows example problems with no comments and you basically have to figure out what she's doing. Assigns so much homework up to 12 assignments due in ONE DAY, with a review on all of those assignments due on Sundays, HW is graded by time not by grade, that can either be good or bad depending on how you want to do homework.
This was the worst class I have ever taken. She makes everything about this class 100x harder and more complicated than it needs to be. She nitpicks EVERYTHING and will have you redo assignments over and over again until she likes how you solved the problems. This class is the most TIME CONSUMING class I've ever taken. Do NOT take this class !!
Classwork, homework, and discussions are easy. Show clear steps and explain well as her feedback sucks and you will experience the 1/5 everyone gives her. The 5/5 come from people who did clear work and explained well as if you do this class is an easy GPA booster. Put effort into the final and midterm cause you will go in a cycle of resubmission.
This is my second day and it is HORRIBLE I had a mental breakdown I understand summer courses are much heavier in workload however, I have taken multiple summer courses in the past and I knew I was able to manage my time effectively. This class on the other hand is different All you need to know is that I spent 1 HOUR ON THE SYUBALLUS QUIZ HELP
THIS IS THE WORST PROFESSOR I HAVE EVER ENCOUNTERED. THE CLASS IS STRUCTURED IN THE WORST WAY POSSIBLE. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS. The gradebook is illegible, it does not show your final grade. Her feedback is a joke. She will dock points because she doesn't like that you didnt do the problem as she asked. There are 50-80 assignments due at any time
She posts lots of homework for the class, during my time in the class she didn't teach lessons.
One of my worst experiences in a math class. Takes exam grades and slices them in half if your scratch paper isn't set up exactly how she wants or the work isn't shown in 7-15 steps rather than the 3-4 it requires. Insane amount of busy work for a math class, which sets up students for failure. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS EVEN IF YOU THINK ITS WORTH IT!!
Calculus isn't hard but this professor is just not it. I understood everything but she is honestly not worth my time and effort. I tried so hard in this class. In one day we had 27 assignments! The day before we had 10 and the day before another 10+. ADDITIONALLYshe expects everything to be perfect, when she knows she is nowhere near that herself.
she leaves comments that are honestly not helpful at all. she will ask you questions in such a passive aggressive voice. she will mark an assignments incomplete just because its not to her liking and will make you redo it multiple times until she likes it. calculus shouldn't have to be taught this way. they're are so much better ways to be taught.
terrible teacher. Subject that is not hard to understand by textbook and practice. You could easily get 100% on your tests and quizzes, however it is near impossible due to her inability to accept your work. If she does not write your scratch paper for you, then you will fail. Never taking her again, taking an incredible GPA hit on my record
Honestly so discouraged from ever taking another math class for fun. I thoroughly enjoy the material, however I have never had a worse experience with a teacher.
Professor Lassonde's class was the hardest one I have ever taken, especially during summer when everything is fast-paced and you are expected to do so much at once. I don't recommend this class unless you have the time and energy. Once you start then don't give up. I don't know how I pass, but she gives extra credit and lets you revise.
A rlly bad prof to have in summer, unnecessary group work, passive aggressive tone for feedback with no purpose, and too much homework. IF you are organized and have plenty of time in your hand you will pass for sure. But she will make you do recorrection over and over again if it not to her liking.
I thought I could deal with the heavy workload, but even the grading criteria was very cutthroat. I've been in this course for only five days and am already planning on dropping. (Took me two hours to do the syllabus quiz; not even mentioning the extremely/oddly specific hw.)
Run for your life! Please don't take her. The amount of work she assigns is crazy—you won't wish that class on your worst enemy. She'll make you do 15-20 hours of homework a week and doesn't teach or care. She doesn't grade you based on the correct answers but on the time you spend on her website. PLEASE DON'T TAKE HER!
Workload for this class is EXTREMELY heavy, do not take this class if you have a job or take more than 15+ units. The class involves "homework", which is rather busy work to keep you occupied rather than truly learning the concepts in full depth. Gives extra credit, however is rather rude and unpleasant over forms of communication. AVOID!!!
This course is confusing, even for something as simple as the syllabus quiz. On top of that, her communication style is discouraging, making it impossible to keep going in such an unproductive learning environment. I hate that I have to drop this class and delay my education plan because of it, but I can't continue in such a frustrating situation.
I took her a year ago. Even though I'm taking Calc 3, OChem, microbology, and honors physics now, I'm still having a way easier time than now than when I took her. My workload now combined is still lighter than her class. It's all just busy work with no learning, and she's not willing to communicate. Her feedback was the worst.
I made the mistake of giving her the benefit of the doubt. This was the only course that worked into my sched, but I should've just planned it for a diff semester and saved myself from all that stress. Literally listen to what everyone has been saying about her, it's all true.
Horrible policies surrounding homework and testing. Ridiculous grading and feedback around mathematical routine.
NEVER sign up for a class with this professor unless you want to hate your life.
Honestly, This might actually be the worst teacher I've had in college. STAY AWAY. If you want 27 assignments in 4 days this is your class lol. She tells you to use outside sources to learn, but when you do you'll be marked down because the "work shown" is not what is EXACTLY on the lecture. Which are just khan academy videos on YT.
Not the best communicator and not a fast grader. However, so much extra credit and 3 attempts at both the final & midterm.
By far the worse teacher possible. If you liked math, you will learn to hate it. There is a lot of unnecessary busy work that has nothing to do with your ability to do math. There is group assignments that you have to go back and correct. Homework is unending. The lectures are not very helpful. The syllabus is unreadable.
Probably the worst professor ever. If she sees work that doesn't match her own criteria, she will bother you to fix your work over and over again. She makes math way harder than its supposed be. The way she makes you do midterm and final corrections is so unclear. Her feedback is also not helpful. Avoid if you can!
I never had a problem with her grading criteria. I made mistakes with formatting and she was super nice and gave me full credit. The few exams are exactly like the practice exams. If you actually try you will get the grade you want. I'm ending with over 100%.
It was hard to get an A and it was a super stressful experience. My midterm wasn't graded until I after I took my final and she was VERY VERY picky on all of your work. Some of the problems on the midterm exam didn't even make sense because she wanted it done to her particular crietria. NOT WORTH IT take the class somewhere else. Everyone dropped.
You get so many chances. So much extra credit, so many attempts on the exams. Study guides are word for word exams. Yeah there's busy work, but it's like 5% of your grade. Just don't do it.
You get just. an absurd number of chances to boost your grade. There is a TON of extra credit in almost every single category, and you can figure out what sections you don't need to put too much effort into doing, and how to recover from a bad grade or slip up. Personally, I got a D in the discussion category (worth 15% of the grade) and was fine.
Avoid Professor Lassonde's class if you can - it's an absolute grind. Tons of assignments, super high expectations, and zero flexibility. Unstuckstudy was the only thing that got me through. Overall, just not worth the hassle.
I knew from day 1 that I was doomed. Having 4 orientation quizzes due on the day 2 of class is beyond ridiculous. Some questions have 10 parts, way over the top and excessive. It's too much, too overwhelming, too stressful. Some people shut down and never return. Worst professor I've ever had. Just a nightmare.
I never thought her class could be my nightmare. After every exam, I had to do exam correction paper as she wants. I took math 190 in summer and was my worst decision. If you like extra work like put you in anxiety, this class is for you and you gonna love it. Good luck
class is weirdly structured and honestly really frustrating for people with learning difficulties. will not give partial credit will give you a straight zero. does answers emails on time but doesn't grade fairly. EXAMS ARE NIGHTMARES. very very work heavy, i mean VERY work heavy.
Lord, I got stuck with 3 semesters of this teacher, and man. Unforgiving, vague feedback, hundreds, and hundreds of assignments. However, I will say a 2/5 is because after semester 1, I learned so much I can kinda "cheese" the syllabus and exploit extra credit for a very manageable A. But wow, it's the hardest coursework load I've experienced.
Kristin Lassonde is VERY picky about how she grades your exam. Out of only 4 questions mind youShe really wants you to do it exactly the way she taught it. Any deviations from that and expect nothing more than a C. She also claims to be available text but don't expect a text back from her the same day or even one day after. Exam retakes are allowed
I've finished calc 3 with an A now and her course is WAY harder than calc 3. I failed both her midterm and final because she didn't like the way I did and explained my work. The program showed all answers were correct. I messaged her asking why I got that score and she said “You ended the course with an A, no need worry about it” ???
Horrible, horrible experience, but it's all my fault! I should have known after taking her Calc 1 class last semester and should have taken someone else for Calc 2 this semester. But her class was the only online option available. I'm so stressed and frustrated right now. I'm giving up!
Amazing professor! The class was challenging, which is needed for us to grow as students. She's supportive and ensures we have the help we need. Her feedback is clear and helpful, showing what's strong and what can improve. She responds to emails quickly and truly cares. 10/10, definitely recommend! We need more professors like Professor Lassonde!
Super nice and kind
Prof. L is a great teacher! I took Math 191 and Stats 164 with her and got an A in both. She gives lots of support like exam retakes, corrections, and study guides. You need to do your homework, classwork, and discussions on time and participate. If you do the work, you will succeed. I really recommend her class!
I took her statistics online class. She was kind and understanding. Where are all these bad rates coming from? Yes, there was quite a bit of homework to do, but I mean..it's college lol. She always gives opportunities to retake exams, and there are always extensions for late work. Put in the work, and you'll actually see a good grade.
This class has a lot of assignments weekly, however, it is a class that you can 100% learn from and pass as long as you organize your time properly. She gives a lot of chances to make up exams and assignments. Some of the tasks may seem tedious but it really is a good course and I recommend it if you are looking for a professor who really cares.
I took this class last spring semester. It has a fairly heavy workload which the Professor points out in the syllabus. The class is set up well with a variety of assignments. There are a lot of extra credit opportunities and chances to retake exams. As long as you put the time in and manage it well, you have a good chance at a good grade.
Ms. Lassonde was one of the best teachers I have ever had. If you actually want to learn and be able to apply the knowledge, she is the perfect teacher for you. She took so much extra time outside of class to help me learn and walk me through even some of the most basic steps so late into the course. I appreciate her so much and I highly recommend.
Challenging but fair. You can't just copy answers, this class makes you actually learn. Weekly work keeps you on track, and the mental health/resilience discussions are a thoughtful bonus. If you show effort, Professor Lassonde is responsive and gives support.
Grading criteria is extremely clear with exams. Overly generous with retakes and make up work. If you stay consistent and do the assignments, which can sometimes be overwhelming but are worth it, you can easily end with over 100%. Does require lots of self learning but you always know exactly what you need to do. Professor is nice and understanding
I worked extremely hard to ace this class, but to be honest, I wouldn't recommend this professor. If you have other options, I strongly suggest taking them. I struggled through the material on my own to maintain a good grade and protect my GPA. The syllabus, assignment instructions, and retake exam policies are confusing and overly complicated.
took asynchronous over the summer-- super easy to get an A in this class due to so much extra credit and easy problems. She overcomplicates the format of her class. So many assignments, discussions, quizzes, tests. Have to pay $10/month for homework software. maybe u think I'm exaggerating but I'm dead serious it's SO much busywork.
Don't take her summer asynchronous class if you have a job. Her HW assignments are based on time rather than completion or accuracy. To get even a 50% on HW you need to spend 10 hours per week on hw. It punishes kids who know what they are doing and don't need that long on homework. So much time wasted that you might as well take an inperson class.
Don't take this class. I understand that this is a compact course during the summer, but she doesn't help. Every work you do on the test, you have to show and talk about how you got the answer and if it's not the way she wants it, she'll grade it pretty low. She is very vague about what she wants from students.
I have a strong math background, but the course structure and instructions feel unnecessarily complicated. The exam format seems to force students to redo exams, which takes away the joy of learning. The questions are basic and repetitive, focusing more on steps than on deeper conceptual understanding. Take other professor if you want to learn.
The professor focused much more on participation than the actual material. Required weekly posting of handwritten notes from each chapter, 2 discussion board posts, and 2 group projects on an online white board that constantly lost connection. Peer reviews for test corrections. The professor seemed to be completely out of touch with reality.
I had a great experience with this professor in both their Math-171 and Math-190 course. I really enjoyed the course structure as it provided many opportunities for extra credit and practice exams, which were super useful for my exam prep. My only complaint is the homework system which calculates grade based on time rather than the actual content.
I took her class as asynchronous but anything but that she wants you to hand write every assignment and if you don't you get a 0% plus there is some how a required attendance each week for a asynchronous course. there is also the fact she makes the canvas page a very confusing layout.
Loved this class. Professor L was really clear and kind both on Canvas and over email. Tests (midterm and final) combine to be only 25% of the grade and they are pretty much identical to the practice tests. So many opportunities for extra credit made it so that I will probably end this class with over 100% despite struggling with the material.
I never write reviews, but this class was awful. Tons of busywork for an async course + mandatory group work. She's extremely picky about how to show work and takes off points even when answers are correct. Slow, rude, and unhelpful feedback/emails and a huge weekly workload (12+ hrs weekly). I felt totally unsupported, stressed, and targeted.
A really nice and approachable professor. You can tell she genuinely wants you to do well. Her office hours were very helpful.
Class is really easy, just a little rude over email
