never let students get a word in.
I dropped this class after sitting through the 10 page syllabus. She seems to have some sort of insecurity issues. She will mark you absent if you don't take notes. What's up with that! What happens if you are an auditory learner?

What's with the obsession about MLA? Tough on marking.
SHES EVIL but let me pass to graduamicate
If you're willing to work and ask for help, she's a great teacher, but expect to work. I've gone to ask for help, and she's very nice.
She's a great teacher. She makes class fun while she makes you work.
I'm not a fan of English so this class wasn't fun for me. She's a fair teacher and a nice person but pretty tough on essays.
It was a good class, definitely not as bad as it could have been.
Tough teacher, yet very helpful when you are having problems. She is a very tough grader but only does it to help you. She loves to give pop quizes
She's a nice teacher but her essays, tests, & pop quizzes were too much to handle. Do not take her if u don't have a lot of time to read confusing stories and write essays. Very tough grader. Her assignments were hard to understand as well. In spite of everything I'd said, she will help u if you're up to the challenge that is.
If you are above average intelligence and write well-thought, academic papers do not take her. She is by far the laziest professor I've ever had. Since when did going the extra mile mean taking points off? She told me I am an adavanced writer yet she continued to give me bad grades. Sheis horrible
It is true, she is tough, but she is fair too. All you have to do is communicate with her. She is very open to conversation on the subject matter. I wish she would work a tad bit on her organization. Like any class it is what you make out of it. If you pay attention to wha she wants in her essays, you can pass with a good grade.
she is really a nice person and is helpful if you ask for help, but she is an extremely tough grader and the longer i was in her class, the more i disliked it.
She is a hard grader. She is not a good teacher.
I do not like her!
I despise writing but I love her class. College isn't easy, and she does a great job pounding that into your head. She's very nice, but a tough grader. If you're up for the challenge and want to learn how to write well, take her class.
She was a very hard grader. I went to her several times for help throughout the semester, and each time she told me I was doing just fine. Then I would get my paper back and it would be a C or D. I was very dissapointed in her teaching methods. Though she appears to be trying to help you do not be fooled. She couldn't care less about your grade.
I did not like that class or her style.
One of my favorite professors at JJC. I enjoy writing. As long as you use the comments and corrections she gives you, you'll get an A.
What a tough grader!!! I actually used to like writing, now im afraid to even write a text message- I totally hate her as a grader, but she was silly and kind of funny. But try not to take her.
This teacher is a very HARD grader!!!! She is a nice lady overall, however. On the other side, she is crazy about MLA format. If you really like writing, do not take this class. Your grammar and sentence structure is only graded, not the effort you put into your paper.
Unprofessional Instructor! Yell's at her students, and retaliates if you question her judgement on a paper! I WAS an A student! Do yourself a big favor and do not take her!
She is an awesome person, but a VERY TOUGH grader! If you want a challenge take her class, if you want an "A" find someone with a smiley face next to their name. She grades you on sent. structure and format only; your content is irrelevent. There is a research paper that is 40% of your overall grade, if you do not do good you will beforced to drop.
Graded on content and structure. Thought the class was fine
Latour is terrible. She has spunk but if her goal is to make people dislike writing, she certainly does her job. What's the point of writing a good paper if it won't be recognized for its context? If you are writing a paper that actually grabs the attention of the reader(s) and makes sense, that is what really counts.
She grades extremely unfair, gives C's and D's to everyone. Do not take this class.
I never got any C or D's in her class. Whenever I needed help, she would help me. I'd take her again.
She is more than willing to set a time after or before class to help you. But she grades very hard. Be prepared to put in alot of extra time towards this class.
EXCELLENT teacher... she grades very hard, that's true, but if you're getting C's and D's , you're not putting in the right effort, so quit whining. She grades hard because she wants you to be successful, and she makes every single class fun, informative, and worth your time.I can't wait for ENG 102!
I agree with everyone here. She has got to be one of the toughest graders in my entire school years. Which has its ups and downs. She grades low on papers with mistakes, but you look at those and try to improve on it.She is hilarious though, and fun!
Challenging but very rewarding, teacher is very helpful!
She's a tough grader, but I had fun in her class. Unlike other professors I had before, she is willing to help you with your homework. Don't miss a class, do all your work, and proof-read your writing and you'll do fine in her class. Only lazy people complain about her.
Latour is a pretty good professor overall. My writing improved a lot in this class, and anybody getting bad grades in her class probably shouldn't be ther in the first place. English is my second language, and I ended up with an A, though her class is not easy, it's not extremely difficult either. To succeed work hard, and put in the effort.
By far the worst teacher I have ever attended class from. Not a bad person but if she doesnt like you forget you won't even pass the class thinks she knows it all oh yea don't take much better teachers out there then her
Out of the five people I talked to before dropping this teacher, all of whom were honors students, the highest score of any of us was a 66. She had written MLA format on all my papers, but the writing center never found any errors. also, to get a A or B in her class you need to "demonstrate creativity". THIS IS ENGLISH CLASS NOT VISUAL ARTS!!!!!
I was skeptical about taking her when I saw all the outrageous comments about her...I really like her, shes funny, she makes the class interesting, and makes the mandatory research paper bearable by breaking it down into steps...which by the way I got an A on and I suck at writing papers...overall shes a really good teacher
She is a tuff teacher to please. I loved her style of teaching, and you dont think she will grade hard until you get your papers back. Take a lot of time on every essay and do exactly as she outlines in the notes and you will do fine.
I actually really loved her style of teaching. Very willing to help and easy to understand. Broke down the research paper into steps, but was very anal about citing your sources. Not an easy grader but overall I really enjoyed her class.
Very good instructor. Work hard and show up. She grades based on what she teaches. Do exactly what she says and give your all in your papers from the beginning and you will succeed
graded very stupidly and when we would do somthing how she explained, she would always find something wrong with it. i would never recommend her.
very helpful and expects work to be done, I mean that is what we are going to school for. If you don't want to do the work don't waste your money or time taking this class let someone who wants to learn have your seat!
She is tough as nails when it comes to grading. 'Anal' would be a good way to describe her grading style, not to say she's mean. She has a bizarre sense of humor and is pretty lighthearted in class, and very helpful if you ask. Some concepts are rough to understand ... Apply yourself and you'll do fine.
Beware, she is very corky or funny, but she is super anal and her research paper is a nightmare.. this is the only class I ever had to drop because if feared the final grade.. she is so strict on her papers!
Please, do not take her! I've always been fond of writing and felt pretty confident as a writer until I took HER for my english 102! I've ALWAYS gotten A's in my english classes, but she gave me an "F" on research paper because she didn't think I cited it right. My dad has a doctorate in education and said my paper was fine, she can't even spell!
DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER! She is easily the WORST teacher i have ever had at JJC. She told me my research paper looked "really good" and when i handed her in the EXACT SAME THING she failed me on it. TERRIBLE grading style on papers. No one knew what she wanted in a paper and she never told you. DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER!
She is by far the worst teacher I have ever taken. I have taken this class 3 times hoping this teacher would be different but I was wrong. I did my best on all of my papers and she only gave me D's and 1 C on my papers. TAKE A DIFFERENT TEACHER!!!
Lowered my self confidence. I have always done really well with writing papers, until her. my scores just kept going down. Ending up dropping her class, then next semester I was recieving A's on my papers again and relised it wasn't met was her, what does she want from us!!!
I can see why some may think she's hard, but she really does try to pull the best from her students. If you aren't a strong writer, then I wouldn't recommend her for you. If you have a passion for writing though, she's one of the best!
Very willing to help. Very respectful of students. Grades very strictly. Work hard and you will do fine.
Very Helpful and is willing to help you wiht your papers, just do the essays and make sure they are right and you will pass. Quizes arent that important, they are only worth 5 points each. but pass 2 out of the 5 of them and you will get a B or A.
Do NOT take her poetry class unless you already have an interest in the subject. I didn't, and although I usually do very well in English, I had a very hard time understanding this material. The worst of it is that you are constantly assigned to write 4 or 5 page analyses, which for me was exceedingly difficult.
She is a good teacher, Have her look over your rough draft before you turn it in, your gauranteed at least a C on the paper if you do it. Also the paper she corrected for you make sure you turn it in with all your other papers.
She is a tough grader but a good teacher. If you are having trouble go and see her and she'll work with you. The research paper is a bear but she breaks it down into managable parts. She slammed me for missing a citation - so double check your final draft before turning it in. I won't make that mistake again - so she taught me a valuable lesson
Kristin is one of the best professors I have had in a long time. She's very charismatic and makes every class session fun and lively. I recommend to anyone interested in literature to take her class.
Kristin hardly ever shows up for class and when she does she doesn't even teach anything.she's too busy goofing off which i hate professors that just wanna make the students laugh and not get anything done. She gives assignments but doesnt tell you exactly what she wants.she grades really hard for missing too many classes!
She is wonderful and passionate. She arranged for the author of one of our textbooks to come do a reading and speak about his work. Workload is very manageable and she grades fairly.
Latour is not one of my favorite professors. Not to sound bitter but she grades your paper, tells you what you need to fix and when you fix in next time around she still find something wrong with it. She will literally find anything wrong with your paper and make it seem like a big deal just so she can take off points. Not cool yo.
LaTour... she is very energetic when it comes to teaching. She has those pop quizzes about the stories that she assigns. Tough grader when it comes to the essays. She tells you to re-write essays and when you make the corrections she finds something else wrong. The reading assignments can be quite exhausting and many of them boring...
Dont mess around when it comes to citations. Holy cow, better make sure you are spot on with all of them...she is a complete and total stickler. Also, tough grader. DO NOT in any way take the research paper lightly. She can and will fail you...she is not afraid. It is a better chance you will fail vs get a good grade.
she is a really fun and enthusiastic teacher. I found lit very boring but she presents it is a way that is more interesting and relatable to us. She takes forever to grade EVERYTHING though, tests papers and quizes. Its kind of ridiculous
Mrs. LaTour is a fairly nice woman, though she was often absent, and is a very difficult grader on the final research paper. The good news is with the many assignments given you should be able to pass even if you fail the paper. Though at least for my class the final was difficult with the material not being covered.
I was nervous to take her class because of the awful reviews. Well here is some useful information. She is a wonderful teacher, and she grades fair. If you apply yourself academically then you will do fine; however, if you don't,you have to blame yourself not Mrs. LaTour. Best part is every assignment led up to the final research paper
She really doesn't care if you pass or fail. She cancels alot and don't bother sending her your papers to be revised.
Professor LaTour is an amazing teacher! I just finished her Eng 102 class and it was a blast! She really makes class fun and makes sure you know what you are doing. I absolutely loved her and her class and would recommend it to anyone.
She is NOT a good teacher! She is funny though, and she is pretty smart. She is NOT helpful at all.Her tests are hard.Don't bother asking for help with essays, she never responds to email. She misses class ALOT!Got an A but I like to read and write papers. She was no help.
If Professor LaTour has anybody rating her as good on here it is probably her doing it! NOBODY likes her as a teacher! I mean Nobody!! She misses many classes. She had a fill in first two weeks, then took two more mini vacas. Does not take teaching seriously. Fill in said people on rate my prof lie...They Don't unless they say they liked her class
Very above average teacher. very clear on how assignments are to be done. Cares about making the class fun and interesting so that you stay involved
Kristen is honestly the worst teacher I've ever had in all my years... she doesn't come to class and when she does she just talks about stupid stuff. She does not care if you pass or fail and good luck on the papers, almost impossible. 2 high school teachers told me I was a great writer but never did better than a "C" in her class. Do not take her
Prof. LaTour is a very lively teacher that conducts her class with no B.S. She has nothing to hide and posts a calendar that has exactly everything that needs to be done. She is humorous and very helpful. See her after class to get suggestions on your paper and you are guaranteed a B on the paper. Her quizzes are o.k.
She is disorganized and teaches the class as if we have no understanding of common sense. She goes off of lots of rants that are unrelated to the class. Her grading style for essays is ridiculous and lazy, it is a check off sheet. The quality of your paper is irrelevant as long as you have what was on the list. She will leave dead space in class.
Overall this class was insanity. Multiple minutes would pass of silence in the class because she seemed to have lost a direction for where the class was going. She had excuses many times for why things were not done on her part but takes in no late work because it is "unacceptable." She says a lot of irrelevant comments and class moves slowly.
Do not take this class. It will be a waste of your time because you will recieve no actual information that you can take onwards into english 102. She spends more time trying to get students to like her rather then have an actual class. Even if you are a good writer she doesn't grade based on writing style but rather just does a check list to grade
Definitely avoid this teacher if you can. She is not helpful and grades very strictly. If you do not pay close attention to her directions she will take major points off your paper. She doesn't give clear understanding on what is to be done with each assignment. I felt like I was mostly on my own.
Avoid taking Ms. LaTour! Her grading is extremely strict. I was in AP English in HS and absolutely loved English class before taking her class & now I am dreading taking English 102 (thankfully not w her) next semester. If you take her, be prepared to bust your butt and get little in return. This teacher doesn't even care if you pass or fail.
Great teacher very helpful and one who posts negative thing probably wasn't in class! she has no problem helping outside of class hours! took her twice and would probably take her again if I needed any other English classed!!
This teacher is awful. I thought it was me and then decided to try cheating on a test. I wrote out one of her whole study guides and then received almost no points on each response question because the study guides have nothing to even do with the test!
AWFUL. I was an AP English student who received all A's as a writer, yet apparently I can't write according to her. A check list determines your grade, not your quality of work. Tests are irrelevant to class lecture and discussion. Worst teacher ever. By far the worst. I went to every class as well and she never responds to email
Mrs. Latour is amazing but she does not put up with any B.S. She is available for any questions you may have. Her instructions are clear. She post study questions online and goes over them in class. Does she hand everything to you? NOPE! That's right people you have to make an EFFORT! I really wish I would have taken her for English 101&102.
ALL I HAVE TO IS GOOD LUCK! SHE IS THE WORST TEACHER
She is the WORST
She is fun in class but she grades hard. She does not explain the writing assignments.
although she does grade hard she is always more than willing to give feed back on drafts! She makes time for any student that may have trouble, I know that for a fact! Also she is super funny and does care about her students, but if you do not put on the time do not expect the "good grade"!
If you are going to take this class you better be some kind of genius. This class is very very hard. Your whole entire grade depends ONLY on writing essays. Essays are graded by a check mark list starting with a C letter grade. This teacher will help if you ask, but could care less if you failed the class. She never gives A's on papers.
she's a nice person, not a good teacher. I failed her class and i came from a good high school and i ALWAYS did really good at writing papers. guess i wasn't a good enough writer for her. didn't pass me by 2.1 points. DO NOT recommend her.
Horrible teacher! In English 101, I got A's on all my papers & figured this class would be easy. WRONG. She is an extremely hard grader and takes points off for every possible thing. She does not care how goodbad you're doing. Never take this teacher!
I had Prof LaTour for ENG 101 & 102. She's a very tough grader, but if you listen to the feedback she gives on drafts and follow directions it's not bad. She is willing to help but you have to ask. Overall, she can be a really hard grader, especially if writing papers isn't your forte - be prepared. She rounds up.
First sem at jjc Pro Latour wasn't bad at all. All you have to do is pay attention, take a few notes and you'll do fine. She lets you revise your first 3 papers, and the last two you're on your own. She gives little points for homework, so it won't hurt your grade. She's pretty funny. She gives great feedback after your first paper. You'll do fine!
Miss Latour is a bomb teacher
Grades with check list & if u do everything directions say u start at a 'C'. Tried to use different styles of writing to get better grade & didnt work. Directions & samples in class don't line up with actual essay requirements. Assigns reading & doesnt discuss after/quiz consistent. 5 essays r the only graded work. 30 on ACT Eng & I'm failing this.
She's a tough grader, that's for sure. Sometimes she can be spacey and it can be hard to understand what she wants but she was a fun professor. If you're looking for an easy A or aren't good at writing essays then don't take her class.
Kristin was there for you when you asked. However she wasn't clear in assignments, and she isn't clear in explaining. She's a space case for sure, which makes students feel like she doesn't know what she's teaching. I wouldn't recommend if your trying to become a better writer.
Mrs. LaTour quickly became one of my favorite professors. In her class, we were able to talk openly about current issues and would get in groups to talk. She is so nice and respectful and offers great feedback. In this class the text book is used often, it is the only source allowed in the papers (there is 5). Definitely choose her!!!:)
Lecture is very fun and lively. She is an open book and has a ton of personality. So if you have like a quarky teacher she is the one for you. Down to earth is not who she is. I think she is a fair grader if you can figure out the formula. The 5 papers are your grade basically. You have to painfully obvious to transition and come up with new ideas
She is really good at making sure students understand what the lesson is about. She is a hard grader though. But she will make you laugh and cares about your success. She is also accessible outside of class.
I do not understand why Kristin is getting so much hate. She's really weird and it's hilarious! She does make you work for your grade, but it's college so that should be expected. You will not get a C for trying if your paper is absolute garbage. Everything done in class is used to help write papers, and it really pays off! Will take her again.
She is very funny, outgoing, and loud. She is a great teacher and the essays she does every day with us helps but she is a tough grader. Make 2 mistakes on a paper and you automatically get a C. If you want a good grade, even if you think you did good or went to a tutor, you still need to see her to get a good grade. Pop quizzes here and there.
She can make class very lively & does have a good sense of humor but that is just about the only positive from her class. Her grading is extremely picky and my class averages at a D for each paper. I would go in and get help from her for an hour then submit my essay & would get a D! If you want a challenge, have at it but I highly dont recommend!
Cool teacher, clean direct, as well as understanding
Shes nice and somewhat funny but her grading style is trash. I carried a steady A all semester only for her to give me an awful grade on the final essay and drop be 5% to a B. In my english class last semester i got 100s on every paper and have never struggled. Annoying
A very fine professor who knows what she is teaching. While I had a smaller class with her and we had more discussions than lectures, I felt I learned a great amount from poetry. Our grades assignments were varied and can be fun, although her grading can be tough, especially on the midterm so be aware of that. Overall, a fun teacher for poetry!
I'm going to start by saying that her feedback is impossible to follow, whatever you fix on your next essay that you did bad on your previous doesn't matter because you'll still receive the same grade as the last essay.
Ok so Mrs. La Tour is a nice teacher but yall her grading is soo strict. Like I would get good grades in High school and felt so dumb in her class. Safe ya money and get another teacher.
She is really funny and weird, but I personally NEVER struggled with English or writing classes, until I had her. She is a really tough grader. When you feel like you got at least a B, she gives you a D. I recommend taking someone else.
Tough grader, if you ask for help she does not explain herself. Her lectures are mainly discussions about the reading assignments. She gets distracted easily. I saw no point in going to class just to hear her talk about non-english material. I felt like she does not care about her students.
Latour is a really tough grader, so if you cant write a good essay I advise you to take some else. Other than that she is funny and class is worth going to.
Shes great at lectures, class doesn't feel like a drag. she is a extremely hard grader! No matter if you have her look over it. 4
Great professor! She's a tough grader, but you'll become a better writer by taking her class. Expectations are clear and she always makes herself available for help with every paper. Take advantage of this drop-in time; it's worth it! Class is always enjoyable because she makes it so much fun.
She cancelled class A LOT for her pets. We did nothing but inclass assignments(5-10 pts)until late april when papers were due. Shes a HARD grader and gave me a D and C. Lowest grades in college to date. When asked what was on the final she said "stuff from class". Even told us to stop emailing her 1 day before a paper was due. lazy prof over all.
Mrs. Latour was an amazing english teacher. You do have to put a lot of work into the class but she recognizes how much of an effort you put in. Truly care about getting work done and don't slack off. Take this class seriously. I ended with an A in her class. I always laughed at her jokes and she was there for help when I needed it and was helpful.
If you aren't a liberal, be prepared to be uncomfortable, she speaks a lot about her personal beliefs and while she is funny, she gets off topic A LOT during her lectures. If you copy down her notes, ask her to edit your papers prior to turning them in & listen to her critiques you'll do fine.
I had Professor Latour for ENG101 and she has been my best english teacher by far throughout all of my education. I had her online, as it was the first year with all classes required online, and she was very communicative, clear and involved. She posted several lecture videos, answered questions and was always there to help to assure understanding!
I had Professor LaTour online for Eng102. She was extremely helpful, always available to check my things to make sure I was on the right track, and gave good feedback. Some of her assignment pages would confuse me, but after emailing her, she cleared it up immediately. She was helpful and very informative. I would absolutely take her class again.
LaTour is the worst. My class mass dropped out after she would only give everyone Cs and Ds for English 101. Extremely inappropriate comments (she joked about eating aborted fetus') and has absolutely no structure. She never showed up to class, never lectured about anything of substance and was very rude and confusing with grading. Never take her.
LaTour was one of the more interesting professors I've had but in a bad way. she seemed very unorganized and lacked consistency with grading papers. Asking her questions left me to believe she was stressed and annoyed, giving responses such as 'FIGURE IT OUT". I'm surprised her rating is even a 3.1 right now. If you have the choice DONT PICK HER!
She definitely prepares you! Her feed back is amazing! She definitely helps a lot . Out of my two english professors , I would say LaTour is my favorite. I would take her class again if I had to. Not much work, we had a mini project, mini short quizzes & one major essay. But she prepared us for everything.
her grading was very hard and she gave you unclear feedback and some of her rubrics were very hard to understand. ask questions if you are confused on something so you don't continue to do it wrong.
This has been the worst experience Ive ever had with a professor. Not only was she completely rude when it came to asking for help, but she also put off grading any work until the last two days of the semester and I thought I was passing for all this time until she finally caught up on all her work and ended up failing me. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!
My experience with Professor Latour was the worst!!! She a tough grader and she doesn't give you the proper feedback or if any at all. She also doesn't give you much guidance. Her communication skills are HORRIFIC!!! There is more diplomatic way to go about it talking to someone but she didn't have those tools. STAY AWAY!!!!! I WARNED YOU!!!!!!
Doesnt want you to do well on papers gives you sixties even when you try your best Dont take this class if you hate hard graders!
Harsh grader and gives barely any feedback. If feedback is given, it is not helpful at all. The whole semester consists of little assignments until the last few weeks when all the big projects are due. At that point, it's too late to raise your grade if you do bad. I don't recommend, and other faculty members that I've talked to wouldn't either.
You won't really realize how tough the class is until the essays begin. You have 4 essays throughout this class, weekly discussion posts, and quizzes every other week about. The essays are very difficult. I worked over 8 hours on each and received a C and 3As. I had 4 people including her proofread she is obviously the most helpful be she grades
Her grading is unfair. I had written essays that received poor grades even after I went to tutoring and got help. For the final essay, I spoke with her and others multiple times and still got a bad grade and got bad notes on the stuff SHE HELPED ME WITH. I tried to give her the benefit of the doubt and it almost cost me my degree.
Very harsh teacher and doesn't give good feedback, if any at all.
There are only 2 papers in this class and they are worth 75% of your grade. She mentioned that when she taught this class in person, there was only one paper. I'm a good student, and I still got a C with my best efforts. I can't tell you enough how fast you should run away.
Absolutely terrible. Feeds her student liberal garbage and grades off of her own opinion. Will not leave any feedback other than her own snotty remarks.
while she is a tough grader, she is also very open to giving feedback and helping you organize your ideas. honestly, as long as you ask her in advance to look at your drafts and outlines, you'll probably do pretty good despite what some of these reviews say.
Mrs. LaTour was the worst english teacher I have ever had. I have never gotten any grade below a high B in english and I failed her class. She was a very strict grader and mostly went on her opinions. If she does not like you or your opinions you will fail. Avoid her at all costs.
If you believe what the state of California believes you may do fine as the text book seems to be following their ideals of racism and misogyny but if you want to do good pick someone else because you will have 4 10 point tests along with 4 100 points essays which are always poorly graded with not useful feedback and even wrong feedback at times.
In my personal experience taking this professors class is an awful decision. Make sure to read the reviews.
Genuinely confused about the bad ratings. I got great feedback and plenty of help during and outside of class from LaTour. Grading wasn't particularly harsh either. The liberal comments are ridiculous btw and should be ignored, bad writers seem to want to shift the blame to anything other than themselves.
Do not take her class. My passion for writing has been damaged for awhile since I took her class. She's smart but takes it too seriously. If you have the option to find a different professor I advise you to do so.
Looks like the one witch from Hocus Pocus. Terrible grader, made excuses for calling classes off, made inappropriate jokes during her classes when she was teaching. Essays were quite difficult even if you are accustomed to writing good papers. Avoid taking her class altogether to save yourself a semester long headache.
I should've read reviews before taking her class. Gave me a bad grade for lack of development in a maximum 1400 word essay that needed at least 6 pieces of evidence. Told me I struggled with coherence, annotations were made to be incredibly personal. Grades opinion based, she loves feeling more intelligent than her students.
Avoid this professor's class if you can. The grading is harsh, and feedback is scarce. However, Unstuck study can be a helpful study tool to prepare for the assignments.
Contrary to most of these reviews, Prof. L wasn't that bad of a teacher and was very helpful with whatever questions I had, especially for essays. Just pay attention to the requirements for essays and you should be good.
Worst English professor I've had by far. I took ENG 101 and COMM 110 both passed with A, and I could barely pass with a C in her class. She's a very unfair graded and very opinion based. If you think you are a good writer, that doesn't matter because it has to go by her way of things. If you ask for help, she doesn't give any helpful advice back.
everyone sending bad ratings did not take it seriously. if you are reading this ignore the bad comments, im taking her class and she is really caring and wants her students to succeed. available out of class, responds really quickly to my messages, clear grading criteria... ASK HER ABT YOUR ESSAY and start working in advance! you will do fine.
ENG260. I don't have anything against LaTour. She gives good feedback & wants her students to succeed; she literally tells you that you can send her your essays early for feedback & gives you plenty of time to write them. There's just A LOT of required reading -- both books & additional articles/texts & a short essay is part of every quiz.
I used citations the way she taught me, she says it's wrong. I look in the online textbook again, used the way the citation was written in, still wrong according to her. Then she says I plagiarized the whole thing? I stayed up 5 nights writing this dumb and my paper messed up while turning it in so I told her, STILL TOOK POINTS OFF FOR IT.
Where do I start? The lectures were enjoyable, very involved. She was clear about her political views, but did not force them upon you and made you feel valid. The bad review is due to poor feedback on essays and is a tough grader (as are all ENG profs), she also did not notify us until hours AFTER THE LECTURE TIME about a cancelled lecture.
I don't understand the bad reviews. Prof. LaTour was really kind and helpful when I took the class. Super understanding, and the assignments themselves were not too difficult. Gives you a lot of time to do assignments as well. Starts grades at a C, and you have to completely miss a basic requirement to get anything less. Lectures were also helpful.
writes incoherent notes on the board and is completely unorganized. She will give you advice on how to write your essay then when you take her advice, she will tell you it's wrong. She grades solely based on HER opinion.
She is unorganized and she needs a lot of guidance when it comes to being a professor. Messy notes, do not recommend her. Everything is graded based on what she thinks is right.
all topics for essays were chosen by her which would be easy but she's very politically biased and hard topics for a bunch of incoming college kids to have developed ideas about. she helps you if you have her look at essay drafts and go to labs to work on the essay. stay on top of the essays, she's very much a pusher to make it how she wants
1st day of class she boasted about being one of the lowest rated profs at jjc. many inappropriate comments were made and we were forced to write in agreement to topics on par to her political views. one day she made disturbing "jokes" about an unborn baby, we were all disgusted. so rude when asking for help and leaves incoherent notes/comments.
