Cute and friendly, and she also teaches well!!
She makes very clear and helpful presentations. The exams come from her lecture and the study guide helps you a lot. She is really nice and her explanations make the material easier to understand.
shes great! i totally recommend her! she helps everyone...and explains things so u can understand them
A very clear lecturer...very easy to listen to and to learn from. You can tell she likes to go to work everyday. Lecture notes and study guides help ALOT!! Test's aren't easy but if you do your work they'll go pretty smooth! Take her class!!!!
This is one hot mama! If you don't like to stay because of what she says, stay because of how she looks. The teaching is good too.
Very clear& has a sense of humor. Encourages questions & not boring. All you have to do is memorize the study guide and you will get an A on the exams. You will actually learn something. Quizes are pretty easy too. I wish she taught all the subjects!!
The best biology teacher I have had in college...She knows how to teach and also knows how to relate the topics to our lives. She is funny and charming and loves what she does. She lights up a room with her presence
very very good
bright, enthusiastic, and fair. i learned a great deal from her and wished she taught more courses. GREAT instructor, highly recommended.
The world's best professor and the world's kindest person. This woman is truly an angel without wings.
Really great teacher and you learn a lot.
Awsome teacher! Knows how to convey information and helps you to memorize things very well. Do study guides and go to her office, she's one of the best professors I know. Learned a lot and loved the subject.
Excellent!!! Definitely the best professor that I have had in college. She is very intelligent and you learn a lot in her class. When she comes to class you can tell that she is happy to teach, and she is always so bubbly and pleasant to talk to.
when she first started, she would give out study guides: if you followed it, you would ace your test (they were duplicates almost!) but then she toughed up big time. bubbly and intelligent, but tests are harder than from a year or two ago.
She is the #1 science teacher at wayne state, however her tests are HARD!!! She is so smart that she knows exactly how to trick you into changing your answer...every test you will narrow down the questions to two possible answers...too tricky
she is amazing, funny, very intellingent, and very easy to talk to. loves teaching and it shows in class.... love her
Dr. Parkin is amazing. A sweetheart and so helpful.

She is for sure the best teacher at wayne state university for any of the biologies that she teaches. I would very highly recommend taking her if you can, even if it mean wating a semester or two , it is totally worth waiting for her.
just plain WOW! great prof.
She's an awesome professor! I always recommend friends to take any of her classes. She's super nice and caring.she knows her stuff and her exams are straight forward, but she does put in some tricky stuff.do the study guides and your set.
Just plain wonderful!!! Do the study guides and you will get an A or B on the tests. Very helpful, fun, interesting, and kind. Best science teacher I have ever had in 4 years at Wayne.
i had dr. parkin for bio 2200, 5060 and now 2600...she's amazing! her study guides help tremendously when you're studying for an exam. she explains herself and her notes very clearly and always makes time to help students out with anything.
SHE IS SUCH A GOOD TEACHER THE TEST WERE A LITTLE TRICKY BUT IF YOU READ AND MEMORIZE THE SLIDES YOUR GOOD TO GO. SHE IS VERY HELPFUL TOO SHE MAKES SURE YOU GET THE STUFF AND REALLY UNDERSTAND AND SHE MAKES TIME TO TALK TO YOU AND ANSWERS EMAILS RIGHT AWAY. GREAT TEACHER!
okay everyone i have her and its 2005, i dont know what everyone is saying but she is HARD! its either she has turned much much more tough this semester or im a retard. (2nd one). very nice and cares alot but VERY HARD exams! (trickkyy!)
She's a good professor, she gives helpfull study-guides for exams. All i did was concentrate on the study guide material and i did pretty good. The quizzes are open discussion, usually the day before the exam.
I think she is a great professor. She is one of the best professors in Wayne State. Very helpful and nice. Her exams are little bit tricky (hard) but that's life. I would recommend her totally. even if you don't get good grade she is just fun and you will learn something actually. she is great.
Parkin is really nice. Her tests are very tricky though but shes a great teacher and even though the class was at 8 in the morning she would try to do her best to wake you up and pay attention even if you cant make it to class on time she has her lectures posted thats good because she talks fast
Probably one of the top professors in the Universtiy. Really knows how to teach the material, it makes you believe that you actually like the stuff. But in all honesty, her test are not tricky, they are HARD. If you want a good teacher she is the one, but if you want a good grade Dont take Her.
Tests are too tricky in my opinion, at times I felt like I was being tested on test taking skills as opposed to biology. Other than that she's a decect professor but 8 am is way too early for biology!!
Exams do NOT match lecture at all. The questions come out of nowhere.
Tests are tough, but no tougher than those of any other bio class ive taken here. Class is TOO EARLY and Parkin still manages to be happy and enthusiastic. If you're annoyed by perky people at 8am, don't take the class. Otherwise, I highly reccomend it.
Best professor by far at Wayne State. She makes herself available and is always willing to help you. She has a great personality and you can tell she loves biology. Her tests can be tricky but if you study you will do well.
Parkin is a very intelligent and very good professor but the exams are very tricky and specific. If you read the book, pay attention in lecture and religiously study the slides not only will you get an A but you will really learn the material
OVER RATED !!! THATS WHAT SHE IS.....................YES SHE IS NICE AND HOT, BUT HER EXAM ARE VERY DIFFICULT. YOU WOULD HAVE TO READ THE BOOK, LECTURE NOTES, STUDYGUIDES AND LISTEN TO HER ONLINE LECTURES ABOUT TWICE TO GET AN A ON EXAMS.
Ok I had her for Immuno, do NOT DO NOT take Immuno with her as an elective, I recieved an A in cell, though people tell me she has turned harder in Cell too, but in Immuno we recieved no extra credit, A was a 94 (like cell) and god, her tests just got trickier, ended with a D in that class, shame!
Dr. Parkin explains everything in lecture extrememly well. She really loves Immunology and you can tell. The study guides are a big help, but her 20 multiple choice questions on each exam are very difficult. I did well in her class, but put in many many hours of studying. Good luck!
Her exams are not difficult at all. All I used were her lecture notes and study guides. Anyone who complains about her needs to leave the science field. If you can't hack it in this class then you won't be able to handle any other bio classes. She's the easiest bio teacher at wayne.
I agree with the other comment if you can't get an decent grade in her class then the science profession isn't for you. By far easiest Bio prof i've had. Never bought the book. I just took notes and studied her lecture slides. She asks detailed questions but there are no tricky questions. If your somewhat studious Easy A
Dr. Parkin's exams are as fair as she can possibly make them. There are no surprises...unless you're part of the 40% that do not show up to lecture. She is amazingly nice and helpful. If you have a problem with her, get out of science now and major in political science or something. A class act in my book.
Dont buy the book. Take good notes. Easy A. I'd do her too :D
One of the best teachers. Very very nice and helpfull
Doc is the best professor Ive ever had at Wayne State. Nobody compares to her. She loves to teach and she loves to see her student succeed. She opens her door to anyone that needs help. She is very very clear when she teaches and she will repeat anything that is misunderstood. Her exams are tricky. Definetly recommend her. YOU GO DOC!!
While her tests did seem to get a little harder and more specific, there was an easy way to get around that by studying the slides. Parkins is rally leanient and will her you out if you come out with a good cause. Definately take her.
so cell bio was a breeze compared to immuno. Her tests are extremely detailed and she got rid of matching questions on the exam which makes it so much harder. If you don't go to class and memorize the notes inside out, you won't succeed. She constantly reminds you that its a graduate lever course.
she's adorable and sweet. you don't have to go to class, just listen to lecture online and her study guide will def prep you for an A.

I already posted this but I guess it got taken off. Dr. Parkin is a nice professor but there is nothing easy about her classes. Her lectures are fun and easy to understand but her exams are hard and a grading curve is non-existant (13 extra points, LOL its a joke). My advice don't take her based on word of mouth, b/c in reality her class is hard
Unless you are the ultimate biology genuis - study, study, and study and you will get nothing more than a C+.
i studied like mad at first, but slacked off in the class a lot too. i didnt realize how hard it was going to be, u reallyyy have to study. but i ended up with an A so i guess its not all that bad. u guess cant go in there being a lazy idiot either !
five advices: 1- she is not that easy as they say 2- Dont only depend on slides, try to read the book too, 3- one way to get an A is to listen to the lectures over and over 4- sorry no curve 5- because she is young and pretty people take her.

This is how to get an A, dont bye the book its a waste of time, She records her lectures online, listen to them and take notes after the class memorize the**** and bam 100% or at least close. She gives all the answers in class you just have to catch them.
great class so far and good instructor, but damn -- never had a prof take this long to grade our exams... only negative.
Well, let me be honest, I'm studying for my MCAT right now and I put little effort into the class, I got a 100% on the first exam. Listen to the lectures online while taking notes-- BEST WAY TO STUDY. Very nice and approachable prof. The lectures are structured, organized, and clear. Like the old saying goes "What you put in is what you get out
It was a pleasure being in Dr. Parking's class--primarily because her teaching is effective, but also because she is enthusiastic about the subject (makes an 8 AM class bearable). I never opened the book, but attended EVERY lecture. I also listened online to EVERY lecture afterwards to study. I literally got a perfect score on every test so far.
Excellent professor. She was very clear even online. I did not attend class because it was too early but I still did very well. Her exams were very tricky though.
she is simply the most awesome teacher you can find. she knows a lot and she helps the students in anyway she can. her study guides are awesome and you dont even need the book. listen to her lectures and do her study guides thoroughly and you are set for that class.
The best expirience I've had at Wayne State. She is clear and extremely knowledgible.
For Advanced Immunology (graduate level class) she made it so easy. the class was super interesting, she was so clear, very fair, and helpful. Exams were easy as long as you study. THe best way to do that is by relistening to lectures, dont need the book. we learned about all sorts of diseases including cancer. highly recommend it as a bio elective
She was hard and there was a lot of information that we needed to know. She might be easy for Cell, but for this class, you really need to study.
Simply one of the Best professors at Wayne. She teaches you HOW to read research papers, details the assays, and understand current methods used to research the immune system. In addition so much depth in many other interesting areas. She is always willing to help any student! Wonderful experience all around!!
she is easy, just re-listen to the lectures before the exam you should be fine.
Excellent teacher!! I cannot say enough good about her!! She is extremely knowlegeable and teaches in such a way that makes you want to learn and understand MORE!! I loved her for Cell Bio and plan to take her again for Immunology!!
she is one of the Best professors, easy, tests are not hard, but be carefull they come from lectures note and the example she give during lecture.
OVERRATED. shes honestly not as easy as they say. her tests are incredibley tricky. there really is no laying back in her class. shes a good teacher but is WAY WAY WAYYYYYYYYY over-rated. ppl say if u fail her class u suck at bio....lemme tell u if u pass her class then ur a simply a very studious individual. need to study A LOT. but overall, an ok
Definitely not easy as they say!!! Must listen to her lectures at least twice, unless you can remember everything during the class period. Don't really need the book, exam questions mostly come from her lectures & powerpoint notes. Tricky. Although she is makes you excited about the material.
i had her for cell and immuno. she was cool in the begining, then she figured out some people got the old exams, then she became pain in the ass.her exams are way to tricky. the last two exams for immuno the avg was in low 60s and we still got no curve. cell is a joke you just have to listen for lectures once and you will ace the class.
studied my ass off, still got a B. she teachest very well, but her exams are hard. Matching is piece of cake, but multiple choice is confusing. all options are the same, but vary by one word! But I still feel like I learned a lot.
Fantastic teacher.Seems to be honestly excited about the subject. Very clear and concise. Nothing tricky, tests cover the material presented. But don't expect a walk in the park, you'll get out what you put in. She honestly couldn't be more fair.
I had her for Cell, Winter07. I got a high A, listenning to all the lectures the day before only. I never attended a single lecture (first day only). She's a joke, if you have trouble in cell with her, then Bio and medschool is not for you. Not trying to be a jerk but seriously, this class is easier than 1510.
run, do NOT take this class. most of YOU will fail, and thats because most of you do NOT study hard enough. however, if you study ur ass off like ME, you'll get an A. PS. you have been warned.
Parkin is really out of control. It's great that she is interested and understands what she is talking about but she's as spontaneous as they come. she jumps around and doesn't follow a normal sequence of events or any type of order. her humming gets on my nerves. got an A bc i memorized the notes even tho they are a little off
u gotta study ur ass off in immuno to get a good grade, lots of information to memorize. and her lectures are soooo boring, she keeps talking and talkin with her quite classy voice, its make u go into deep sleep. for cell bio she was easy. but immuno man she's tough
She is an excellent teacher she clarifies everything. take her if your lucky but i think she might have left to michigan state, if not this is her last year
She's the best Bio teacher I've had at Wayne, and I'm a bio major.
She is a great prof. She is super nice and very smart. She makes the class so interesting, by far one of the best teachers I ever had. YOu learn so much usefull information and the test are not bad as long as you know what was covered in lecture. You do not need the book everything you need to know is talked about in class and in the notes
This is probably one of the most confusing, unhelpful courses you may ever elect to take in your undergraduate studies. Take at your own risk, and that of your future as well.
She is a great professor. Don't need to use the book everything she lectures on is what you need to know. Ask questions, take advantage of SI and you will do well
Dr. Parkin is a great lecturer, but her exam questions for cancer bio were really confusing! I found myself confused to what I was doing wrong in my studying after getting Bs on the exams. I listened to the lectures twice and read the legends in the book and still got a B+ at the end. Very sad.
BIO6190 is an adv immunology and it was offered for the last time this semester. That is why I took it b/c I could never allow myself to miss out on such opportunity. Immuno is Dr. Parkin's world and she is the best immuno professor that you could ever ask for! This was my fav course & I continue reading papers despite the fact that the class ended
I had Dr. Parkin, for 3 classes. Cell, Immno, and Cancer bio. She is by far the hardest professor i have ever took. She's a great lecture, if you can stay awake, and tends to ramble sometimes, but her exams are really hard. The 1st exams is way easy, but after that you will die, you need to get a phD, to pass her class, the ones that do pass cheat.
One of the hardest classes at Wayne. Her tests are brutal, but she is super nice and lectures good. At times the material she lectures can be jumbled and confusing, but immuno is a hard class to teach! ACE the first test and final cause the midterms are very brutal!
ive had her for immunology and cancer biology. exams are very hard. class is interesting and so is she but she acts like your getting a ph d in her class alone. she is too passionate for her class especial immunol but she dont understand we are not passionat for these classes you leave from there not absorb much bc she need to leave cumulative exam
The Best biology professor at wayne state. Cute, funny, perky and really interested in the subject. She knowws her stuff. Any class she teaches is bound to be great. I LOOVVEE her
Took her for immunology and it was amazing! Don't listen to all the comments. She is very nice and tries her best to help everyone understand but you have to understand that immunology is a VERY tough subject so expect a tough semester. Her exams are very difficult and detailed and this class makes any of Marty Sprangers classes look like intro bio
Talks very clear, her study guides are veryyyy helpfull.
She is perky and if you pay attention she is great at explaining things. Other than that she is not helpful outside of class. If you email her dont expect an email back... ever. Her class is tough and exams are TOUGH!!! and the study guides do not help. She tricks you with all her questions. The class avg on the last exam was a 50.2% which is horrible. You litterally have to be a genius.
SHE'S GOOD AT EXPLANING, BUT THE STUDY GUIDES DONT REALLY HELP, AND THE EXAMS ARE DIFFICULT... MAJORITY OF THE CLASS FAILS THE EXAMS
NICE TEACHER, WITH A NICE PERSONALITY, BUT THE EXAMS COVER LOTS OF INFORMATION AT ONCE, SO BE PREPARED TO STUDY HARD!!
Its a three credit hour course, but is taught like like every student desires a career in the field. It is not treated at all like a 3 credit hour course, and the goal to make it more challenging than appropriate delivers an unjustified amount of work. Its memorization, and tested like a 5 credit hour course.
Attendance doesn't matter, class is really boring, She tries to make it fun by adding her own jokes but it doesn't work. Just listen to her recorded lectures and go through the study guides. Once you have all that memorized, there is no way for you to fail. Book is not really used in this course.
If you listen to her lectures you should be fine, because anything else she tells you to go over is useless...her exams are hard questions are pretty tricky, and you have to read carefully she makes you earn the grade in her class, so if you have her be prepared to work
By far the most interesting undergraduate biology class @ wayne after micro. Exams are brutal, and she has a talent for linking knowledge from multiple chapters in one question, so be prepared. This is a 5000 level class, so expect it to be hard. Immunology is her world, and she hopes that it will be yours in the future. It certainly is now for me.
this is not a cake walk, but you will have to study early and long for test. quizzes & extra credit very easy. Once you get flowing with good study habits class get easier great lecture and nice shape and booty
She is not easy. Don't take care if you don't have the time nor the interest to study the material. I didn't like how detailed she got. It wasn't like we were learning about immunological disorders but just some growth factors, etc. It's definitely for those who want to go to grad school.
Boring class. It should be called "Molecular study of cancers" Just not what I hoped it to be. Please make sure you understand exactly what you're getting yourself into. She is def not easy and don't expect just to pass with no work.
I took this prof for 1500 and now for 1510. ok let me start with the teacher. she is so nice and is funny. now her teaching skills....SHE TREATS EVERYONE AS IF THEY HAVE TO KNOW EVERYTHING!!!!!!!!! her exam are like the state exam we have to take in high school. she gives study guides but there is no point in even looking at them.DONT TAKE HER!!!!!
VERY HARD!!! I literally studied my butt off and couldn't get an A. she is a great lecturer but her tests are ridiculous. if you wanna take it you really need to commit all your time to this class only b/c it's a lot of detailed info
Tricky exams. All I can say. You will not get an A by just showing up to exams. Shes a great lecturer but she tricks you with her exams by 1 word. You could know your stuff and think you got a 100% and end up with a D-. Trust me.
Parkins knows a lot and really enjoys it but her tests are really challenging. I struggled until the last month of the semester. 4 exams total all half mult. choice, half true/false. Final=cumulative but word for word questions from prev exams found online. Class avgs low but online quizzes/few ex. credit helped at the end.
This was my 2nd time taking bio and I actually ended up doing worst. Her exams are VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY tricky and harde whatever you want to call it. Textbook will be your best friend. Her lectures are "simple" but then her exams are complex as heck. Make sure u do in lab to help ur score, or else you'll end up with a C- or a C. DO NOT take hr
ugh!! i am writing this so other can learn from me!! in that class i study my butt off, but i couldn't got more than D on the exam.. that's because the exams are "HARD"... but the lectuire seems so easy when she talk and stuff. Study guide has nothing, which is on exam!!...my word do not take har! PLZZZ...
Dr. Parkin is an amazing lecturer. She is so passionate about biology that it is almost infectious. Her test are tricky, but straightforward if you understand the concepts and how they are related. An A in her class is very doable but you will have to do the work.
I had Dr. Parkin for 1050 and by some miracle got a B in her class. That entire time I NEVER knew how to study appropriately for her exams. Even though she provides a study guide, they`re not all that helpful. She gives really enthusiastic lectures, but her exams are tricky. Truly.
i think mrs. parkin is extremely knowledgable of teaching bio stuffs, and she is young too. she Can teach, but her tests are very tricky. very tricky. lol. you will know if you take her for the first time in bio 1510. But she knows a lot of materials , and provides study guides. But if you are a lazy students, plz dont take her, cuz you will fail.
Don't listen to other comments. I had Dr. parkin for bio 1050 and 1510. She's amazing. Her exam questions come from the study guide and only the study guide, therefore, it's very important to understand it completely. I barely used the book. Go to lecture. she offers extra credit that will help you. An A is very doable, work hard and u'll do great!
Her exams are very tricky. She provides study guides for her exams which are somewhat helpful. She does 4 quizzes each worth 25 pts and offers 20 pts extra credit. The best way to study for exams is to listen to her lectures. Not a blow off class but an A is not impossible.
She is very smart!!!At first, I did not pass this class. Then, I retake it & got B.
#1 Unfortunately, teachers don't care about us students. #2 yes, she is extremely tricky, but from what I hear 10x btr than Beningo. #3 Her enthusiasm makes u want to study and think u understand but after her 1st test u feel stupid :( Study hard dude Its ur future make it worth ur money!!
I had Dr. Parkin for Cell Bio and Immunology. She is a great professor. By far my favorite at wsu. I have learned a great deal. Her exams are hard...but guess what, if you plan on going on to med school it gets worse. she is just trying to prepare her students. if you are lazy do not take her and reconsider your major.
A TERRIBLE two-faced demon woman. Enthusiastic, (due to meds I've heard) but exams are ....by far the worst things ever. 40 questions, all on incredibly specific details from lecture. few are from main topics and main concepts covered. no podcasts. no curves. (no one got a 100% on any of her tests). Do NOT recommend. take this class elsewhere.
Her exams are HARD, she does not curve all true, but she is clear and u cant just study u have to understand not memorize the detail in the material.. her Final is just as HARD!! She is not fair either :(
Excellent! She's a bit tricky, but she explains the material well and is enthusiastic about it, so she is way better than other professors in that regard. I would recommend taking her, just plan on studying. :)
Hi, I had this professor for BIO 1050 and 1510. She explains well, but her exams are RIDICULOUS! Study as much as you can!!!!
She is excellent in teaching. I love her lectures, you never feel sleepy or get bored. But her exams are very unorganized and questions are ambigious. Her questions are not clear sometimes, she wants to make tricky questions, but questions become so confusing and messy. If she can well organize her exams, she is an excellent professor in all ways.
Things you realize from when you see her:1- she's pretty.2- she tells u exactly what u need to know (if someone asks a question, she answers it so that they know what's important for her test).3- if u want to study and learn, good class.4- slackers should STUDY.5- i found her tests to be fair. tricky so read after answering again.6- LITTLE curve.
WATCH OUT! This teacher gives nice, easy to understand lectures, but the tests are HARD and ridiculous because the questions are ambiguous and the right answer all comes down to semantics. You could know all the material very well and still get a bad grade because of how a question was worded and your/her interpretation of it.
One of the best lecturers in the country!
should not teach biology
she is the best professor i have ever had and makes biology so much fun to learn. her tests really tell you if you know the information well enough
Everything she says in lectures will turn up on the exams. You have to make sure you write down the things she repeats twice. She gives study guides that should be answered in terms of the lecture. If you memorize the study guides this way, everyone should be fine.
Her exams are pretty tricky and require some thought beyond memorizing stuff. You have to take and use good notes and study the book to do well. A lot of people fail because they are not ready for college-level work. She does give you a pretty good idea of what's going to be on exams, and curves 5-10% on each exam.
this is not an easy class but getting an A is not impossible. READ THE BOOK & TAKE NOTES DURING LECTURE, while attendance is not mandatory, you should get the notes somehow. her tests are very nitpicky and she does focus on details but she does also curve 5-10% on each exam. Don't try to study the night before for her exams its useless
Bottom Line: Her exams are extremely tricky and boil down to one word to make it true/false/correct. You need to study for exams at least 5 days in advance otherwise you will fail. Otherwise she is an extremely nice lady and is ALWAYS willing to answer questions.
Best professor I've ever had. Knows the material like the back of her hand and is a very great teacher. Study almost everyday, do the study guides, read the book, and study the old exams and you will get an A
She is the best lecturer in the world. Her voice is extremely appealing. She explains everything so well. You really need to write down everything she says. Every word she speaks is gold. She tests you on everything and you need to know the material very well. She is amazing. Her exams are very tricky. Need to becareful when reading the questions
Very nice professor and teaches the material real well...but her exams are really hard and tricky. Even if you read the entire book, you will not pass her exam if previous exams are not reveiewed. Memorizing things do NOT work for her exams, you must grasp the concept of the material. But once again, very clear really nice, and has time for U.
She is great, makes class so interesting. Go over the study guides, old exams, relisten to her lectures and take thorough notes on what she says- her lectures make more sense than the book does and u rlly have to understand the material to do well on tests. Did this and got an A. Read her q's VERY carefully, and study at leat a few days b4 the exam
I honestly truly enjoyed this course--1510 is definitely a weeder class. You just need to study a LOT and be really motivated. Just go over the study guides and powerpoints and lectures for her exams. No surprises from the textbook!
I absolutely enjoyed her class and learned how to study biology in her class. Super clear teaching. Go to the lectures.
The way she explains topics are wonderful! HOWEVER, her test are impossible! You will feel as if you can ace a test because of how well she explains and how hard you study, then you end up failing it. Good luck!
She's the best teacher at Wayne State. She explains everything very clear and the way she organize her materials is wonderful.
I really dislike biology (GE)and had to take this class but her lectures were good. I had friends say her wording on exams was tricky but I got A's on all the test. I would read the book and follow along with the notes I took from lecture. Go to lecture and make sure to print off the lecture slides before hand, its incredibly helpful when studying
She is a great prof. She explains everything you need to know in great detail. If you listen to her lectures and take good notes, you will for sure get an A. Reading the book is helpful but you can do well without it. However, none of this matters anymore because she will be teaching at MSU Med Sch in fall. She did make bio enjoyable to learn though.
Great teacher. Like most of the other reviews have stated, the exams are a bit difficult but if you actually put the time in and attended lectures it shouldnt be a problem. She is teaching Cell Bio in the Spring then going to MSU in the Fall. Wayne State is losing a great bio professor.
She is very great and passionate about what she does. She tries to go in depth on the subject. But her exams are a tad difficult. It's leaning more on the tricky side actually. I studied my butt off & relistened to the lecture(about 8 hours each exam) and I still got a C+ in the class. Sometimes the questions goes way too in depth of the subject.
Passionate about the subject but very very tricky on the exams. I did everything in order to study (relistened to 8 hours of lectures per exam, did the study guide, rewrote notes etc etc) and yet managed to get a C+ in the class. So study a lot and READ the exams carefully.
By far the best Bio teacher I've had at Wayne State. Really understands bio and its concepts, and delivers them to the class clearly. Also very kind to speak to if you ever have questions. Her departure to MSU is really a big loss for Wayne's Bio dept.
I loved Dr. Parkin! She had difficult true/false questions, but the exams were still pretty easy. She actually helped you learn the material through quizzes and study guides for each chapter. She's going to MSU now, so they're the lucky ones.
Dr Parkin is an amazing teacher. She really challenges you to do your best. Her exams are tough. I just took my MCAT and it screamed "Dr. Parkin Exam". Her class really helped to prepare me for MCAT. Her leaving to MSU is a great loss for Wayne. If you are pre-med definitely take her for as many classes as you can!
Dr. Parking killed my dreams to be a biologist. I highly recommend if you are working and go to school quit your day time job because thats what she told me to do. Unfortunelty, not all of us are blessed to just go to school some of us middle class people have to work. I DO NOT recommend taking her you will be VERY disappointed so will ur pockets.
The material for this class was so heavy, be prepared to read A LOT. The test consist of the notes, study guides, slide shows, and what's in the book! The final will be all the test combine. Lab is about the only thing that will bring you down! Go to class if you get her don't think you will pass by listening to the recording!
Dr Parkin definitely knows the material well and i liked all her lectures. However, she lacked communication (didn't respond some of emails, and slow responses). I understand that she is happy to leave to MSU but i think she didn't put 100% effort on her last class at Wayne.
She dumbs down the material. She destroyed my interest in biology by teaching at a high school level. Tests covered ONLY 2 chapters and consists of silly trick questions. She's easy but you don't learn anything.
Shes the type of person who uses childish words e.g changing ?shape? rather than conformation, ?eating? rather than phagocytosis, ?prokaryotes? rather than bacteria or archaea, in addition to trivial words such as ?indirectly? and ?directly??of which she requires you to differentiate between on exams?that turn the complexity of nature into a joke.
The people who are bashing Dr. Parkin are idiots. Dr. Parkin is one of the best professors I've ever had. You will learn an incredible amount of information if you WORK and PUT IN THE TIME. Re-listen to lectures, take notes, study a few hours a day 4-5 days a week. Yeah, I work and go to school too, and don't cry when I get a B.
I had Dr. Parkin for both BIO2600 and BIO5060. She is by far the best biology lecturer at WSU. Her exams are more difficult than your average biology prof (especially in BIO5060), but she explains the content extremely well and is helpful if you have any questions about it. I would highly recommend taking a class with her if you get the chance!
She's a great teacher
if you can take a different bio class for your major then, TAKE IT. yes, I did fairly good in this class, but I worked my ass off and went to office hours and the help room all the time. it was EXHAUSTING. also, parkin does not care if you do well or not AT ALL. so don't go to her for help. go to a TA or Krueger.
Awful professor
Dr Parkin is a good professor and you can tell she loves teaching. This class is 2 days a week, but with the amount of work that is required outside of class it feels like a 5 day a week class. The exams are very difficult. There are a lot TA's and help hours which it nice. Just a very hard class and you only get graded on a exams and in class work
