The instructor is not hard when it comes to assignments, as they have not been difficult. She even posts PowerPoint presentations and replies to emails when needed, which has been really useful. However, for the final, it was somewhat unfair that she wanted us to solve 100 questions and 2 essays in 105 minutes. Overall, not a bad instructor.
Lectures are unclear and often confusing. Also lectures often went on random tangents that had no clear relation to the material. Would not recommend this professor
Not very fond of Professor Richardson. She loves to call on people and if no one speaks she will find a way and rat you out. She knows her stuff, but doesn't make the study of sociology very interesting and she has long lectures. She is very friendly though and wants the best for you.
Has a tendency to say one thing and do another. Rambles about topics.
Be ready to email her a lot, and not have things graded. She is very forgetful and sometimes won't even respond to emails.
Lectures are way long and not engaging. Changes assignments, quizzes, etc.
Makes up her own assignments on the spot. Doesn't engage the class in a meaningful way. Boring lectures that don't matter. Gets cranky easily and treats classes like 3 year olds
She is horribly confusing and you can't understand a sentence she says because it makes no sense to what you are learning. She is not helpful. NEVER TAKE HER CLASS.
This class is redundant. Everything is pretty self-explanatory. No need to go. Richardson always changes the assignments from LoudCloud to her own version, she extends the due date so that's good. This is an easy A class but when you're in the classroom, you feel like you're wasting time. I would recommend online class for this one.
Professor Richardson was such a sweet lady and you can tell she cares a lot about her students. She is an easy grader and she is pretty lenient when grading. Lecture is boring and pretty self explanatory. You could only show up one a week and still pass the class with an A.
Before I took this class I was worried because of the Rate my Professor scores, but I was surprised. Professor Richardson cares about her students and is really open to all thoughts and opinions. The lectures will interest you only if you are already interested in the topic. Participate and do your essays. You'll succeed.
Takes up the whole time in class to lecture but didn't learn anything important this whole class.
She is not a great teacher by any means and she grades like youre in a Masters program. She re-does everything that is online and makes it the way she wants. Her lectures are confusing as well as her PPTs and then her worksheets dont match. She sometimes teaches things after you have already scrambled to find answers online and in the book.
I didn't like this class or the professor at all. She'll have a video, but will spend 10 minutes describing the video in detail before playing it. It's too repetitive. Plus this class is just a way to shove liberal ideas down your throat. Fairly easy class if you show up and agree or pretend to agree with her.
I won't be enrolling in future classes. Lectures are off topic, long and boring. She will call you out, doesn't grade in a timely manner and doesn't respond to email/individual forum. Hands out a lot of papers and readings. She does extend due dates and alters assignments to make them easier which I liked; but overall, I could've taken her online.
Lectures are off topic, long and boring. Doesn't follow power points, will call you out in class, it's hard to focus because she just lectures on about an unrelated topic, most of the class zones out and watches netflix/hulu as she's rambling.
She's a sweet old lady just get on her good side early. Her class is extremely boring but she grades fair for the most part.
Professor Kristin Richardson is a great professor! Her lectures can be boring but they are easy to understand with the way she explains them. The quizzes can be long in terms of having a lot of short-essay sections but they are doable. Also if you don't finish your quizzes on time, she'll stay a few minutes after class and the quizzes are open book
She was an awesome teacher. Be prepared to be called on, she call's on everyone each week to participat. You can't get away with not going to class, it can determine your final grade at the end of the semester. You can tell she wants us to really understand what she is teaching, she's very respectful to all students and is passionate about teaching
If you do not show up to this class, she will make it a priority for you not to pass. A heavy lecturer, however goes off topic a lot, and makes everything more confusing than it needs to be.
She was a good teacher! She likes to talk and call on people when they're not paying attention so be ready! Her essays are easy to do and get a good grade for if you followed the rubric. She is really kind and caring, she just likes to talk a lot and have the class participate in the topic we're covering
I've had this prof for 2 classes. Lectures are heavy, but totally bearable! Lots of handouts/worksheets that I wasn't too thrilled about, but not a super tough grader! Super caring and always willing to help! I would recommend this prof!
Her main goal is to get you to pass her class; she is willing to do whatever she can to help you. With that being said you also need to try your best including going to class and participating. I have had her for multiple classes, she is lecture heavy and will call on you if you aren't paying attention but will help you answer the question.
Professor Richardson is a very caring teacher and she honestly wants her students to pass the course. She gives extra time on certain homework assignments and projects. She goes around to make sure you have the knowledge down. The only down fall to her is that she hands out a lot of papers that have information in our loud clouds.
She is a VERY sweet professor that wants to know her students and see them succeed, but is repetitive and explains instructions or concepts for far longer than she needs to, which can make the class boring. She also overcomplicates some assignments with her own added directions. Not a bad prof, just talks a lot about the same things over and over.
This professor was mediocre. She would push back a lot of assignments for the class which was kind of her, but in the end it screwed everyone over because we had multiple assignments due in one week. She loved calling on people which was not that great, so make sure you always know the answer. As a person, she was great though!
Class is graded mostly on one big project. Easy to get an A she just does lots of lectures that are not relevant to anything we are doing in class. No tests at all. I did all my other work and just messed around during class.
Her lectures can get boring sometimes but she genuinely cares about her students and she is an easy grader. Take her!!
She's caring but if you don't enjoy lectures this may not be for you. There are also 3 team assignments and she tends to change the assignment directions to make it easier, you'll want to be there. The best part is she gives you resources for the assignments which really help. If you need to talk to her send emails, she takes a while to respond.
Professor was willing to work with different students needs and willing to make accommodations.
Decent class and not that hard. Just complete the work and put decent effort into it and you should be fine! Sometimes it seemed like she just wanted us to reach the same conclusions she had and classroom discussion was mostly her talking. She wants you to succeed and do well and is willing to help
Professor Richardson likes to change every single assignment, this makes it very difficult to complete the assignments because her new criteria is confusing. I struggled a lot in this class simply because I couldnt keep up with the assignment changes.
Professor Richardson changes almost every assignment, her new directions are very confusing and she takes a VERY long time to get back to you. I feel like this class was a lot more work with her new assignments. I do not recommend this class at all.
This professor is average to say the best. I try to avoid taking classes with her as the professor because of the fact that she is so lecture heavy that it is impossible to pay complete attention. She also tends to call on people who dont want to be called on which is honestly one of my biggest pet peeves in class.
I love her!! She was the best teacher Ive had at Gcu. Shes so kind and I passed the class with ease. 10/10 would recommend you take her if you can
Very good instructor if you enjoy participating in class and can handle lengthy lectures. The lectures for soc-102 had very clear PowerPoints (Always posted to halo before topic quizzes).
Professor Richardson likes to lecture, but the conversations she encourages are helpful for assignments. Definitely worthwhile to show up to class!
This professor SUCKS! The WORST professor I have ever taken at GCU. Definitely switch out of her class if you can. She does exams which are supposed to be quizzes on Halo that are 10 questions but she makes you take them in class, with like 50 questions and just open book. She makes this class way harder than it has to be, -1000000000/10 recommend.
Very kind lady. Should not be a professor... she does grade very easy, but lectures a majority of class and does change instructions/requirements on assignments, as a previous student stated. Feel like I learned nothing in either class I took with her. Covers everything once and expects us to absorb it. Very flexible on due dates and understanding.
she really does not make sense. lectures about things that really have nothing to do with upcoming assignments. get ready to speak out loud in class a lot.
Kind person, but not good professor. She does not cover material thats on the quiz in class, but talks about stuff that is irrelevant and somewhat related to the class topic as a whole. Expects us to solely get it from book. Went only for participation. Randomly gives group/individual presentations not part of the curriculum given. Do not take.
Don't take this class, whatever you do!! You get called on all the time, present all the time in class, and only have like 6 or 7 "assignments" to earn points. Meaning all of those are 90+ point assignments or quizzes... All points earned are from participation (aka attending class). Sounds easy, but you will not want to be there, trust me...
Professor Richardson is very kind and thoughtful. She takes the time to explain assignments, address concerns, etc. There are a lot of presentations but they are group presentations and are enjoyable! She goes over content in class that is necessary for understanding and writing the papers. Her lectures are informative and helpful.
Professor Richardson is a very sweet lady who genuinely seems to care for her students and the material she teaches. That being said she will lecture for the full hour and 45 minute period, in a monotone voice, and she will cold call students to answer strangely complex questions, and she will patronize you if you do not answer how she would answer
She has terrible teaching methods, never posts notes or resources on time. Her TA's do all of her work for her, yet she still complains about having to do a lot of work. She makes you do in class discussions, but nobody understands her questions, so you just sit there and talk about random stuff or don't talk at all.
Professor Richardson is one of the most understanding professors I'd had at GCU. She is willing to meet with you outside of class, if you are willing to talk with her after class. Professor Richardson truly wants her students to be successful and she has motivated me to be a better person.
cool lady, but bad experience as a prof. here are her specialties: ceo of lecturing 4ever, also ceo of speed running slides that are PACKED with info, no real direction on the papers, reliably deviates from the textbook making quizzes confusing, & cold calling with the most profound question you have ever heard! would never take her class again
This professor does not allow students to share personal opinions on topics. She is knowledgeable on social policies and I was able to tell she is passionate on the topics that were presented in the class. But she will help with assignments and make sure that we know her expectations. In the end she was a sweet woman just not a good teacher.
She was a nice woman but not a great professor. She shuts down students' opinions making them feel dumb and question on they opened their mouth. I did learn a lot of useful information from the class due to the group work that was provided. She walks through assignments and pretty much does them with you in class.
Professor Richardson is a very kind woman, however not a good professor. The classes are filled with lectures and powerpoints yet somehow she does not go over what is on the slides. She will cold call on students and belittle you if you do not know the answer, which made me so anxious to come to class. CHANGE PROFESSORS
This professor straight up sucks. Never taking this professor again. She will not accommodate you or help you at all. She makes the class unnecessarily hard by adding extra questions for quizzes and making participation hard. You have to be in class and her IA's will make you sign out of class and dock you participation if you leave early at all.
She was a good person but when it comes to teaching it gets hard to understand. She moves to fast for the class, no one gets their notes down and the tests are semi difficult. Her TA's ruined the class and i had a paper mis-graded and they fixed it and it happened again and they didn't fix it which made my grade go from a C to a D. Don't recommend.
Her lectures are hard to pay attention to because she bounces all over the place. If you ask her a question she does not give a straight answer and will go on a rant for 40 min about something else. She brings Christianity into everything but then tells us we need to be culturally competent. Her class is hard to sit through.
Lectures were not very helpful for actually learning the content. A lot of class time was wasted, and she didn't prepare us well for exams. Instructions for papers were almost nonexistent, and she devoted no class time to going over her expectations for them. Essentially, I might as well have taken this class online.
This class is heavy lecture and she goes through the notes so fast and does not really connect anything together. Pretty much no body listened to her, everything she teaches could simply be read in the textbook or PowerPoints, she just reads off her PowerPoints with rambling. My biggest issue was how she forced her opinions on the class.
I did not enjoy her class whatsoever, I often felt uncomfortable in there. She needs more training on how to properly give lectures and needs to be more informed in what she's actually teaching.
bad at lectures, talks to students in a patronizing way.
This professor cannot form a single coherent thought. She mumbles and stutters and is difficult to understand. She constantly changes grading criteria and goes on long tangents about different things. She only has macro experience but teaches micro focused classes and has no valuable insights. I learned nothing from her class.
This class is very essay and group project heavy. She cares about the students, but lectures drag and are hard to sit through. There are many group projects and presentations so be prepared to speak in front of class. Participation matters.
Professor Richardson is a sweet lady and is understanding with missing/late assignments but she is very lecture heavy and assigns unnecessary paper work in class that will not be graded. Her AI, Robert Camacho, was very rude and useless in halo messages and would blame us for not knowing certain information that was said in class.
Imagine being taught sociology by a preschool teacher who has no idea how to operate in a college classroom.
lesson teaching could be a lot better, more discussion rather than learning, feels as if you're teaching yourself through the course
Doesn't lecture, just throws information at you.
I've only had this professor for 2 weeks now ( SWK355 & 460) but she's awful. She constantly degrades students if they don't answer a question correctly or EXACTLY how she wants it answered. She got into a 45 minute debate with a student about politics and lets politics guide her class, even if irrelevant. I dont think she knows anything about SWK.
i pay too much money for this to be the only professor available. she just rambles the first hour of class about nothing. we barely cover content because she rambles so much
I would never recommend this professor. She goes into class with no plan, I have been in her class for five weeks now and have not learned one new thing. She brings up politics all the time and does not teach based off of the christian worldview.Overall, I believe you could benefit from this class more if you take a different professor.
This is my least favorite professor. While she can be kind at times, she gives us an excessive amount of busy work and a 1-2 new paper handouts a class that have nothing to do with our assignments. She also takes the daily Bible verse out of context all the time. She lectures the whole time and calls on random people to ask them confusing questions
Genuinely makes an hour and 45 minutes feel like 4 hours. Class is super easy but she makes it so much worse than it needs to be. She's the only SOC professor that does paper quizzes rather than online and they are more questions than other professors. SUPER SLOW GRADER. Just take the course online tbh.
I can feel myself throwing away money sitting here. no reason to talk about the same three things for an hour 45 especially when it is just rambling and all over the place. would not recommend you take her class, not like she's rude just shouldn't be teaching probably
No sense of urgency with regards to lessons, assignments or grading timeline. Drones on endlessly and says nothing meaningful. Doesn't command the attention of the room. Speaks to students as if we are elementary students. Wasted class time on fruitless tangents and activities when we had looming quizzes and deadlines.
Waste of time she teaches the class like its a 3rd grad class. No need of coming to class but then you won't get participation points. Do not take her class. Another thing she doesn't grade anything for months. Its December and hw from October isn't even graded
She teaches the class like its elementary, so slow and talks to students like there 10. Doesn't grade anything, it's December & there are assignments still not in from October and she told us they wont be in till xmas and theres 2 TA's. No point of coming to class pretty common sense, but you wont get participation points.
Didn't ever really fully explain anything. Classmates and I always felt confused and felt as we didn't learn anything, and had to teach ourselves. Also takes months to grade assignments.
sucked didn't grade assignments until almost Christmas
She took forever to grade assignments or quizzes she had us take. Rather than taking one of the quizzes we were assigned a group project that did not much make sense and took her 2 and 1/2 months to grade. It is currently December as I am writing this and we have quizzes and papers that are not graded from early October. DO NOT TAKE HER!!!
The professor creates a poor learning environment. I didn't learn anything and it didn't seem she knew what she was talking about. She talked down to students and made students feel bad. Never graded anything and went into final with no idea of class grade. Did 3 or 4 assignments that she made points worth nothing in grades after the due date.
Easy class, but I did not learn that much. Content seemed very basic and we learned most of it ourselves through projects. Lots of group projects and papers. She cares for her students but spends the first half of class with unnecessary talk. She lets students walk all over her, so it is easy to manipulate due dates. Takes forever to grade things.
Professor Richardson definitely knows her stuff. She is a very critical thinker and engages with questions well. Unfortunately, the Social Work program at GCU is underdeveloped. For this reason, Ms. R gave a different set of instructions than what was in HALO for pretty much every assignment. This caused a LOT of confusion for the entire class.
Late grader, political, never posted slides or graded assignments, ignored message when my friend died but uses the excuse of having a lot on her plate when we would ask why she hadn't graded things from months prior, treats you like a preschooler, unorganized, makes soc an inconvenience when sociology is not a class you should have to worry about.
Class moves sooooo slowly. She would be a great elementary school teacher but sucks as a college professor. I'm fed up with her taking 20 minutes on the simplest material that we either already know or could simply be told before moving on. Easy class to go to but not have to pay much attention in. Slow talker and repeats herself often.
SOC-400 is the only class I would take with her. I took SOC-320 with her and she was terrible. But she knows more in SOC-400. She lectures a lot and clearly goes through the assignments. She has a hard time getting students to take her seriously, but she has a good heart behind things. It will be a pretty easy class.
She is genuinely very sweet and understanding as a person, but as a professor, she is not the best. It takes her forever to go through one topic and we end up falling behind in content. At times I felt like the professor didn't treat us as adults as she would have a sign-in sheet and explain stuff to us as if we were third graders.
This professor is not flexible at all, very bad with communication, did not get an IA until a few weeks left in the semester, always showed up late, no sense of urgency, when she actually had an IA, they would always be the one to responds, too ages to get a hold of her via message, never respected accommodations, and talks to us like we are kids.
It took forever for her to get through lectures, it took her 2 classes to talk about the syllabus. The class was overall easy, but it was boring to be in her class and many of our quizzes were open note, open book, everything. She also didn't use a lockdown browser so some just googled the answers. The papers were not difficult just time consuming.
This class is unorganized and stressful to take, I feel sometimes she doesn't know what she is talking about and I would find myself not knowing what is going on in class. She is nice and her assignments are easy. But learning in this class is a struggle but I was able to manage not too sure for other people.
Very sweet person and was very understand about different situations but as a professor I wouldn't take her again because she over explains everything, and seems lost at times. It is very hard for her to stay on track and she takes a long time on simple tasks. She often treats everyone as children which made it hard for people to respect her.
The class name should be switched from "Principles of Sociology" to Mrs. Richardson's political opinion. She gives extremely biased lectures in order to support her opinion and uses the Bible out of context. This is the worst teacher that I've had. She talks down to everyone like they are children and makes class take way longer than it needs to.
Empathetic, compassionate, knowledgeable, and flexible with office hours. Professor Richardson provided additional resources to support online learning, such as articles and a PowerPoint presentation.
