Kristin is a great teacher! Very hard subject matter, but her teaching style is awesome! She will totally go out of her way to help you and she actually cares if you comprehend the material or not! She gives you 25% of your points just for doing labs - makes your average higher so that tests don't bring your average way down.Study hard though!
Bends over backwards to make sure you will succeed!
I must say, Mrs. Thurlby is one of the best professors i've ever had at JCCC. The subject matter is very difficult, but having a compassionate and understanding teacher makes all of the difference. She is extremely intellegent, and she presents the material in a way you can understand. Definitely recommend her!! Best teacher!
Great teacher! Her teaching style is different but it will help you learn a lot.She does a great job of bringing the technical terms down to the everyday student level. Her notes are a little scattered but she gives a lot of examples to help with comprehension. She's very approachable and will answer any questions. Class and lecture notes are a must!
This class is all about applying information....very hard class!!! But Kristin is great! She has a great personality and always has something encouraging to say. I would take her..but plan to study ALOT!!! Her labs are 100% for just doing them, so that is nice.
Kristen is a phenomenal teacher! That is definitely her gift! Incredibly intelligent! Fun, easy going, and will do anything this side of the sun to help you learn and succeed. She genuinely cares about you as a student. She stresses application, so you are forced to learn the material, which is excellent. Highly recommend. There's none better.
Kristen is a fantastic teacher and person. Her class is incredibly hard, so it is very important not to miss. As long as you attend class, take notes, and use the book for backup clarification you will learn a lot. I am so glad I took her over the other professors available.
This is the professor to have if you need to know a ton of detail in Physiology, ie: you nursing students! Plan to work super hard, and you will reap the rewards. Kristin is by far the best you can get for your education! She is beyond friendly, encouraging, and interested in preparing you with a solid understanding of Physiology. A must have!
Kristen was nice, but I was confused on what she really wanted? Through the whole class she would jump from chapter to chapter not sticking with ANY of them, she would spend a whole lecture on things and would only have 1 or 2 questions on the test. She has weekly quizzes that are essay, real hard. More than half the class was failing her test.
Awesome teacher! She's hard but you will learn. Students I knew did very well on her tests. If she teaches it, it will be on the test, if she didn't teach it, it won't be. You do need to pay attention in class, if you don't do well it is because you didn't put enough into it. She will help you tons if you need it. You will not regret taking her.
All I have to say is that I struggled through the entire semester. Her notes really threw me off at times. Get ready to draw TONS of pictures. That's all her notes are. She's a really nice person, but was sometimes over my head. Test and weekly quizzes are EXTREMELY difficult! Be ready to spend the majority of your time studying for this class!
I liked Kristin but...when it comes to teaching I couldn't understand what she wanted. In lecture she would draw pictures that I would some what understand in class, when I got home I was lost.. More than half the class was getting D's on her quizzes. I think if she had more structure in her lectures then she wouldn't have so many people failing.
Hard quizzes and tests. But I've learned a lot which good for my future career. She was the most available prof. ever for students. If you do care this subject matter, I'd recommend, however, be present in the class and take notes. You'll do fine!
Excellent teacher! Challenging class. Learn tons. Pre-nursing students should take her class. She knows the subject & is committed to helping her students succeed. Part of that is expecting students to apply what they learn & not just memorize terms/processes. Don't skip class, do the book questions, review your notes, don't cram for tests.
Kristen has a great personality, but there is so many wholes in her notes. I felt lost the entire time, she needs to write down the steps of physiology processes, not allow us to guess.( WE DO PAY ALOT FOR YOUR CLASS)
I took her class last semester. The material was hard. However, I did love the class b/c of the professor. She was one the most helpful professor I've ever had. Before every test she was happy to help us at McDonald just to make sure her students understood the material. 100% recommand to students that care to learn.
All I have to say is quit drawing so many pictures, and what is with the pratice test that look like the info was was taken out of some high tech book? I question if she can pass her own quizzes. Tell me really how do you expect us to learn that much in one class period? Expects too much!!
It took me over 4hours to re-write her notes..... I wish she could give some kind of a study guide to help her students pass. Another thing that bothered me is that she seemed to pick favorites:( So if you get on her bad side by asking too may questions you are doomed:(
She has a great personality. Very passionate about her teaching and will help her students any time! She is very dynamic and will not bore you. She does challenge you, as should since it is a higher level science class. Go to class, don't skip, do the book problems she assigns, rewrite your notes, and voice questions. Do not be shy with her!
She is the most helpful teacher that I have ever had. She gives you her house number so you can call her for questions and she is passionate about the topic and you can tell that she really cares for her students. She tries to make sure that everyone understands the material. Very tough course but simple just show up and take notes.dontskip
Kristin is awesome! She is so inspiring and enthusiastic about physiology. She wants you to succeed. The class material can be confusing (esp. if you never studied subject before). I suggest taking notes, reading the book and really studying hard. By end of semester the concepts come together. But you need to work hard. It's worth it!
I really like Kristen as a person, not so much as a teacher. Her lectures are always on the basics, yet her quizes and tests are incredibly challenging. I ended that class feeling extremely frusterated. I'm still not sure how to study for her exams and get anything higher than a B. Ultimately, she lacked clarity and organization.
GO TO EVERY CLASS. Study notes, do quizzes and don't get behind. Do practice problems she gives you to get more of the concepts. Hard class and she is rather flaky and disorganized but she wants you to succeed and will work with you. She is passionate about the subject too which helps!
Love her! She wants every student to succeed and cares a lot about what she does. This class is very challenging but extremely interesting. Tests are all multiple choice. Weekly quizzes are short answer. Book problems are optional but very helpful for studying! There are a few simple labs which will boost your grade as long as you do them.
Overall a difficult class and Thurlby knows it. She is more than willing to meet with her students outside of class to help with the material. Her lectures/notes get messy, but THAT IS THE POINT, she wants you to go home and rewrite your notes into a format that makes sense to you. TAKE THE OPTIONAL ONLINE PRAC QUIZZES and do the book problemsA!!
Good person, not a good teacher. This is a very difficult class and I always left class feeling so lost. Some days I would understand the lecture and then try to do a practice quiz and would have no idea what was going on. Her quizzes and test are so difficult. Wouldn't recommend as a teacher
WORSTTTTT teacher EVERRR!! DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS. SHE NEVER HELPS
Good person, not a good teacher. I feel like she expects us to already know what she is teaching, maybe since she went to Harvard. Her notes are so sloppy and I always left class feeling so lost. Quizzes and exams were extremely difficult no matter how much time I spent studying. Do not recommend unless you're already good at Physiology.
The class is tough. Lecture is so important, if you plan on taking this class and not showing up, don't bother. Go home and rewrite your notes while going through the chapter. STUDY PRACTICE QUIZZES AND BOOK PROBLEMS. She is amazing, caring, helpful and encouraging. I feel so prepared going into nursing program next semester. So thankful for her!
Mrs. Thurlby is an amazing and caring person that will give you the grade you work for. If you work hard and study, then you will learn so much and you will definitely want to take the class again. If you don't try and don't care, then she will know and grade you accordingly. Work hard, it pays off!!
The moment she pulled out the old overhang from elementary school to do notes is when I knew I could not learn that way. She has horribly messy notes that she writes on the overhang that projects on the screen. If you don't learn that way, take another teacher. Very nice and knowledgeable, but would not suggest for this difficult class.
Professor Thurlby is great! Make sure you go to class, missing lecture can really put you behind. Definitely rewrite your notes and do the book problems! If you prefer a powerpoint class, then this isn't the one for you. She's very willing to help you and gives you the grade you deserve. I feel very prepared to start my nursing program this fall!
don't take this class if you are used to learning from powerpoint! she gives her lectures by writing everything you need to know down so that you know what is going to be on the tests and quizes. be prepared to work hard and study for this class. Overall she is a fair grader and there are a lot of extra credit opportunities.
Kristin is definitely one of the best professors I've had, truly believes that we all can do well and succeed! You have to work hard for your grade and good grades aren't just handed out. After going in for help with her for a few weeks my test score and quiz score increased. She wants you to do well, this is a very hard class but she is great!!!
Grow in confidence! If you want to turn your brain off and sit in a lecture where you fill-in-the-blank with meaningless words on a power point, (boring) don't take this class. Kristin gives energetic lectures and extra time! Her goal is to give a strong foundation. You will work hard now or you will work hard later. Physiology is hard.
I dropped this class but I'm taking it again with Kristin. Her recommendation carries weight for programs in KC! She knows what you need to know and she knows how to get it across. You will have to do your part, though. Her course is well-respected by nursing programs. Advice: Get through the class and get a recommendation from her!
Favorite class at JCCC! Also, most challenging class! I feel SOOOOO well prepared for nursing school. Truly, I had an amazing semester of learning in this class with Kristin. Don't skip--come to class. Love the lectures. (But, I HATE Powerpoint with a passion so this class was such a relief)
Kristin is truly an amazing prof! I enjoyed her lectures and learned so much from her. She explains things so well and is always willing to help. Biggest downfall is her tests are really hard and she knows it. But, if you average a B on your tests you can still get an A in the class. Physiology is hard, work hard and an A is very possible.
Only 300 points total. No retakes. No make-up. Writes out notes but cannot read handwriting. Very very nice lady though.
I missed a ton of classes due to personal issues. Kristin was great to allow me to make up all my labs and make up exams in the testing center. She does not allow make up for quizzes, but you can drop 2. She is very reasonable, but she can't read your mind. You have to talk to her and let her know your needs. Tons of Extra Credit built in.
Put away your CELL PHONE for the entire lecture! I would have gotten an A in this class if I had done this, but I settled for a B. 100% of the tested material comes from lecture.
Probably the best teacher on campus....
DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS; she DOESN'T PROVIDE POWER POINT AND IT'S UP TO YOU TO CATCH UP/WRITE DOWN WHAT SHE'S SAYING. SHE ASSUME THAT YOU KNOW THE MATERIAL IN GENERAL AND ALL SHE WANT TO DO is TALK WITHOUT GUIDELINES FOR THE STUDENT to follow. BE READY FOR THE LENGTHY QUESTIONS ON QUIZZES AND EXAMS. MOST QUESTIONS ARE PARAGRAPH LENGTH!
Here's the deal: Do what she says and you will succeed. I have over 100% in this class. You do need to know how to read-and-write. If you want a thorough class to prepare you for your program, this is the one for you. Some students DO want that level of challenge/preparation. If you don't want to work that hard, there are other options.
Tests and quizzes are rough even if you understand whats going on
If you don't have a good attitude, you will not succeed in this class. If you DO have a good attitude, you will do great! She will expect you to do your part. She will go above and beyond for you to make sure you learn. Physiology is a tough subject.
You get out of it what you put into it! I worked hard early in the semester. Then I slacked off. My grades reflected that exactly.
Very caring professor, very good lectures, she is available for help outside of class and goes above and beyond to help her students HOWEVER her exams and quizzes are the most ridiculous things I have ever seen. You can comprehend what is going on in the class but the tests are outrageous. I would not take her again.
She gives tons of extra-credit and her lab points are all 'free' if you show up. I have over 100% in this class.
I am in a nursing program right now. I would like to tell everyone reading this that KRISTIN'S CLASS IS THE ONE CLASS THAT BEST PREPARED ME FOR NURSING SCHOOL.
You will save your notes for your program. SAVE THEM. I look at notes from this class in my nursing program (almost every day). They are SOOOOO helpful!!!!
Kristin's on-line "nutshell" videos are amazing! Most professors, you only hear their voice and makes you want to fall asleep. With Kristin, her videos are entertaining and right to-the-point! YOU WILL SEE HER in the video summaries. She will not bore you and she will not waste your time. Incredibly clear about what you need to do to be successful.
Kristin is AMAZINGLY ORGANIZED. If you are organized, her on-line class will be no problem. (She tells you everything you need to know and do.) I learned SOOOO much. More than any other class. Ever.
I took this class online, and I do not recommend it. a lot of times I went and met with her, sat in one of her classes because the online was not helping for myself. she does upload videos of each chapter review and gives out quizzes with answers, but when it comes to the test she does not make it easy. she writes them herself and they are wordy.
Physiology is hard. There is absolutely no way around that fact. However, Kristin does everything she can to help her students succeed. While her teaching methods are unusual, once you realize how she presents the information you will be much more successful. She gives you everything and more that you need to succeed. You just have to do the work.
Kristin will tell you everything important in the summary videos. She will tell you what to focus on so that you don't waste your time reading 'the whole chapter'. She is very clear. Don't get behind! Stay on top of the book problems. I loved this class!
Nursing School is HARD. They ask you all kinds of 'wordy' questions and Kristin's preparation was the best for me!
I would take this class again (and again)! ESPECIALLY after so many poor on-line experiences that I've had. Kristin is clear and will tell you what you need to do and if you do it, you will learn. Lucky--that's how I feel to have had this instructor.
Best class I've ever taken. Amazing on-line lectures.
I recommend Kristin to everyone I know.
I knew everything in patho because of Kristin's class.
Kristin is a great professor! She's very kind, enthusiastic and helpful. She wants to make sure you learn! Tips- don't buy the textbook from the bookstore, buy an old one (3rd edition) online and buy the code separately, study for her quizzes! They are the hardest part, but they don't affect your grade that much, and they will prep you well.
If you have to take this class on-line, take it with Kristin. She is super-accessible to you face-to-face and by email and by telephone. She will give you what you need to succeed! You will have to do your part, but she will go above-and-beyond her part. Just ask.
The best part about Kristin is that she will not bore you with reading-from-powerpoint. Her lectures are so great because of her enthusiasm and passion. This is the best class I've ever had.
My semester fell apart and Kristin was so nice to work with me. She is in constant communication with the class. She is very human and understands that life happens.
Kristen was one of the best teachers i have ever had at JCCC. She cares about each student and takes time out of her day to meet with you. She even facetimed me from my home to help me study for the final. Her tests are hard but that is expected in a physiology class. Go to every class so you dont miss lectures.
Get a recommendation from Kristin! You will be so prepared for your program! This was the most important class I took for nursing. Programs around here have so much respect for her physiology prep.
The #1 problem with Kristin's class is that not everyone who wants to take it can get into it. I could only get into her online class (F2F was full) and my friend couldn't get into either her F2F or online.
I am pretty self motivated. But I do have advice for those taking the online course. Do everything she says to do!
When I took the PCAT, I was so thankful for Kristin's class. Everything she taught helped me.
Best teacher! I had her 2 years ago and I'm studying for a test in nursing school now and drawing things out just the way she did in class! Her class has built my foundation for physiology. At the time I didn't realize just how much I was learning from her but I learned and retained so much!
Kristin makes this class so easy to follow. She is incredibly organized and will not waste your time with busy work. It's easy.
Kristin is an amazing person. Super nice and very intelligent. I took her online class and I completely regret it. Her tests are impossible. Everyone struggled hard. Maybe her in-person class is different, but I would not take her online class. I am aware this is a class that you have to study for, but she made it impossible to succeed online.
DO NOT TAKE THIS ONLINE!!!!! Unless you can read a text book and teach yourself don't take this class. She expects online students to literally teach themselves. F2F students are provided materials to actually be taught, but not the online class. TAKE ANY OTHER TEACHER ONLINE!!!!! The only reason she got a 1 is because 0 is not an option.
Best class for preparing for nursing school. She will tell you exactly what to do to get the grade you need.
I have taken LOTS of online classes and this is one of the BEST. Physiology is hard! But Kristin will not waste your time with busy work. (i like that) Use all the resources she gives you.
I was struggling in this class! Then, I started asking Kristin questions. My grade came up! She is extremely accessible. Be ready for the extra credit that starts to appear after the midterm point. You'll be thankful!
I got off to a slow start in this class. Then I started using Kristin's Practice Quizzes as a Study Guide. My grade improved dramatically! She asks the same questions sometimes.....
Her teaching videos are AWESOME and take the pain out of teaching yourself. They are short and to the point! She will give you lecture recordings if you want. I have learned so much!
She 100% cares about her students and will take time to help you if you need it. My learning style just did not mesh well with her teaching style. I would not recommend this class online or if you have a heavy class load. I would recommend a different teacher.
Kristin is extremely accessible! She is also reasonable with extensions, etc. She wanted me to succeed!
I took Kristin's class. Now I'm in nursing school. I send her emails and ask her to send me the Nutshell Videos and they have helped me get through this semester of nursing school! It is what you need to know.
For an online class, she gives a pretty wide range of days to turn in assignments. It's not self-paced, but a good amount of time. I really enjoyed this class!
She's great. Understanding. Wants you to succeed. Responds to emails usually within a couple hours. Test grades were always in canvas the day that we took the test. Let us drop 1 unit exam and 2 unit quiz's with the lowest grade. Gives lots of resources. VERY knowledgeable. Be prepared to study and visit the science resource center.
She truly cares! Kristin really pushes her students to do more than they think they're capable of. Exams and quizzes are very thought provoking - you'll need to truly understand all aspects of the material. I learned SO much! This course will really prepare you for a career in healthcare. Watch Nutshell Vids, do book problems, review quizzes!
Professor Thurlby is awesome, she really does care and will do her part as long as you do yours! This is a heavy material class and really need to set time apart to study. Make sure to watch her nutshell videos take notes and then review them again after, read textbook, labs, and study quizzes. Hard class but i really enjoyed learning everything!!
Kristin goes above & beyond to help you understand physiology. She gives a lot of resources to study from, and some extra credit. TAKE ADVANTAGE of extra credit. This class online was HARD! I felt like her teaching styles didn't work well for me, but I worked hard for my grade. Watch and rewatch, and rewatch her nutshell videos.
I took physiology with Kristin and definitely loved her. She really cares about her students. This class itself is hard so you have to read to get a good grade. Exams are hard but she prepares you for that.
Took her class on campus, and she was a terrible professor. Quizzes were all fill in the blank and was a super tough grader. Tests were all multiple choice, but were impossible to pass since she made them so difficult. And lectures were SO heavy on material. I dont recommend anyone to have her. She is nice but a fake person.
I worked so hard in this F2F class and learned so much! Best professor I have ever had. My entire table worked hard and we studied together and we all got As. Don't procrastinate.
One thing I noticed about Kristin is that she treats everyone with respect. She is kind. She listens to students issues. She will not do the work for you. But she will meet with you and she gives students who need time or extensions that extra help.
Now that I'm on to my nursing program, I am thankful every day for Kristin's class! Best class ever.
I loved this online class! Kristin is extremely accessible (and human). If you need something from her, you just have to ask. She has tons of resources. Mostly, she wants me to succeed.
DON'T TAKE HER ONLINE. Expects you to teach yourself completely from the text book. Her lectures make no sense, it's like she starts randomly in the middle or the end of a chapter and there's no organization and fluidity! The questions on her test are awfully worded and the multiple choice answers are ambiguous. AWFUL.
I loved this ONLINE class because she only tests you over the material she presents in her lecture videos. If you are organized, just stick to what she says in the videos. They are awesome
Best experience in learning AND with a professor. I took this class before at another place and did not succeed. Advice: keep lines of communication open and do what she says. I'm so proud of my grade and how much I learned!
Take advantage of all the extra-credit (10-percent extra credit if you work through the Practice Exam questions that are very similar to the Exam Questions) and sometimes there are extra credit labs. Tons of extra-credit!
I have taken lots of online classes! This is one of the best! She is super-organized, kind, and encouraging. She will push you to learn how you learn. It's one of the most rewarding classes I've ever had.
BEST professor I've had at JCCC and probably one of the best in my entire educational experience.
This class is not hard. You do have to watch her videos and study from the Practice Quizzes she provides. Study those Practice Quizzes before every quiz/exam!!!!
Here's a tip (based on the outstanding results of many students in my class)--If you get a chance to get a recommendation from Kristin, DO IT. If she offers to give you a practice interview, DO IT. I'm very grateful.
EVERYTHING in this class is MULTIPLE CHOICE. Quizzes and Exams. Plus, she gives lots of extra-credit! Labs are 10/10 (for participation) on each lab quiz (also multiple choice). If you watch the videos, you will learn what she wants you to know.
I was not a big fan of the organization of her online class, mostly because I hadn't seen a class set up that way. I adjusted, though! If I could do it again I would probably take a F2F class with her. She is very caring and is willing to help you in anyway she can! You earn EC on exams/labs! Watch her videos and read the book and you'll do great!
For an online class, she is in your face a lot. I like that! Makes me feel like I'm not missing out (compared to F2F). Sometimes I feel short-changed in the online classes, but not here!
It was a great class. I learned a lot, and really enjoyed the instructor. I would recommend Kristin to others.
Here's the thing about Kristin. She will work with you and work with you and work with you until you get it. Unusually supportive and encouraging. Highly recommend.
This class is very clear. She gives everything you need to know in her videos lectures, which are not too long. She will answer any question you have and is very quick to respond.
She gives 100% for EVERY lab score. For the weekly quizzes, you can drop your two lowest. And on every Exam, she gives an added 10% Extra Credit. It is a lot of material, but it is possible to get over 100% in this class
I had Kristin's class 3 years ago--now after RN, BSN, and about to get my Masters. Her class was the one that prepared me the best!
I am just finishing her summer online course. LOVE KRISTIN! Best class ever. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. Her lectures are short and to the point. She will not waste your time.
Kristin is ENJOYABLE to listen to. I love her lectures! She is supportive and gave me lots of ongoing conversation, encouragement, and extensions through the semester. I could not have succeeded without such a caring professor! She made me want to do my best. (Hint: Her extra-credit opportunities are there to help students succeed! Do them)
I've taken this class before with another professor. I was impressed by how Kristin presented physiology! I loved everything about it.
HANDS-DOWN, this is THE BEST PROFESSOR I've had in four years of college. ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL!
She has posted all her lecture videos from Face-2-Face classes during this covid online class. She will ZOOM anytime with any student! Within minutes, she will respond to your request for extra help.
I would recommend going with a different physiology teacher if possible. I have no posted a review 3 times and some how magically it is removed from here. This teacher will belittle you and compare you to other students. Her test and quizzes dont match the lecture. You dont really get study guides. This class was awful.
This has got to be the absolute worst teacher I have ever had. She doesnt let you know when test will be in a timely manner. Her lectures and notes are all over the place. This whole class is unorganized and she thinks everyone should just know as much as her. If you take online you are basically paying to teach yourself.. definitely dont take.
I like it that she is so organized, with 2-3 days to turn in quizzes and labs. And she is flexible if you need an extension. She sticks exactly to the syllabus.
Only take this class if you plan to WATCH her videos. All her questions come from the videos, optional problems and practice quizzes. I took physiology with her and now I am going to take pathophysiology with her.
She will offer you lots of suggestions of things that are working for other students. This is a heavy science class for online. What worked for me is one-on-one ZOOM with her. She is really nice.
I loved her as a person but to be honest would not take her ever again, and that is mainly to do with how she posts many lecture videos that honestly don't go hand in hand with her tests. With it being online, you end up teaching a lot of the material to yourself. She only sets you for 60 mins to answer 60 questions and questions are too detailed!
She is SO MUCH EASIER than this same class I took at the University before. Highly recommend!
I think this class is "the usual" for this caliber of high-level science course. It's a lot of material. Take her up on the ZOOM offers (it made a letter grade difference for me)!
This class is hard, but she makes it easier. She is very flexible with her due dates and actually wants to help us succeed. Great semester!
I do not recommend taking this class. Her lectures do not match test or quizzes and she only gives you a minute per question. Please read all reviews before considering taking this course. I made the mistake of only looking at the good and not the bad. This class was very poorly structured and we had to teach ourselves.
I had an terrible experience in this class.
I miss this class already. LOVE THE LECTURES!!!!
If you want to learn something, take this class. Her questions are hard, but she works back in a ton of extra credit for the hard questions.
Everything is open note (online) so take good notes! Take good notes! I really like her lecture style. Not boring
At the end of the semester, Professor Thurlby contacted me and asked me to redo something from earlier. It bumped my grade from a C to a B. She was able to tell what I have been doing and I was rewarded for that. I am grateful that she cares so much about her students.
Kristin gets right back to you by email. She is extremely accessible and encouraging. She will ZOOM-tutor you basically anytime, day or night. I highly recommend reaching out to her. You will not be disappointed.
I did horrible on the first Exam and she genuinely helped me! I am grateful to have had such a kind professor during this covid time. (She dropped two lowest Quiz scores AND lowest Exam grade).
I actually thought this was a pretty easy A for online-covid. (Everything is open-notes). Big Hint is to Study from the Practice Exam questions (she will give you a Practice Exam before each actual Exam). Study from those Practice Exam questions and really learn them. This is your big hint!
She said the overall average in my class ended up being 81. I am proud of my B! Take this class if you are the kind of person who will contact your instructor for help. She will help you. She wants you to succeed!
I am about to start my final semester in nursing school! Yes. You have to know what she teaches! This is the best preparation class.
This was the hardest class I have taken at JCCC. The content is very hard but the professor posted very short lecture videos. As a student that needs a heavy lecture or difficult concepts this was overwhelming on the fact that there wasnt much guidance with explaining topics. This class is very quiz and text heavy. I would have liked more lecture.
This is the hardest subject ever! I loved it that Kristin made available her entire lectures from face-to-face format so that we could listen to the lectures 6 hours per week if we wanted. That's how I learned. It took a lot of time, but I got an A
This is the worst class I have ever taken and I have taken over 65 credit hours. You can have the chapter questions memorized and know content front to back from the textbook, but then have the quizzes and tests be nothing from her lectures or the book. She seems disorganized and sloppy in her material and seems to be aiming to make everyone fail.
I expected physiology to be hard. She is organized and I am organized. I have worked hard for an A in this class, but I have learned a lot.
Kristin gives an unusual amount of Extra Credit. Our class is at mid-term now and over half the class has an A or B. Do all the Extra Credit she offers!
Favorite teacher of all time! She will literally ZOOM with you anytime one-on-one. She really wants you to succeed
I have over 70 hours of college credits and this is by far the top of my classes! Kristin's class is every bit as good (and better than most) of my university classes. I know that I will be well-prepared for my next program at KU.
After struggling in some high level bio classes in the past, those topics finally all came together and made sense in this class! Great foundation for the DAT, PCAT, MCAT. Kristin's videos are awesome!
I am so thankful to have her full-length Face-to-Face videos. I am not an online learner and her short videos are great, but not enough for me. The Face-to-Face videos have saved me!
I was accepted to my dental hygiene program because of Kristin. Highly recommend.
She gives tons of extra credit for regular things. When I started doing the extra credit, my grade came up one or two letter grades on quizzes and exams.
I had to take the TEAS test and I didn't even have to study because of Kristin's classes. Take both of them! You will be so well prepared.
I've never learned so much in a class before! Amazing professor. Follow the schedule she puts out
I would take this professor again and again! I am just now finishing my first semester of nursing school and I took physiology with Kristin last summer. It was the most helpful class!
She will literally ZOOM with you at 10pm on Friday night or 7am on Saturday morning. She is extremely attentive to her students and cares so much.
She only post one week at a time. you cant look forward on what needs to be done next. I thought her lay out was very hard and confusing to follow. She is nice and will zoom with you 24/7. She wants more than 6 hours a week for Phys alone. Its so hard and her lay out is confusing the way she post stuff on canvas but she is nice and will work w/ U.
I have taken a LOT of online classes and this is by far my favorite! I love the lectures--they are short and not boring and it's clear what she wants you to know. This A was worth it.
She gives lots of opportunities to earn easy points (labs for 100%) and extra credit. It's easy to know if you understand the material before the text by doing all her practice problems first.
Kristin is a wonderful and kind professor! Patho is a very difficult class, especially online, and it feels like more than 4 credit hours, but she makes it enjoyable. Lectures aren't super long, just be ready to put in the study time for the grade you want! She is willing to help any time, don't be afraid to reach out! Take her for your Patho!
It's been a year I am taking online classes because of the covid, she was the only professor that replied to my emails very fast and always eager to Zoom. you can pass with a good grade if you spend at least 6 hours a week studying. if you want to learn take her classes. I wish I could take more classes with her. Passionate, generous, and helpful!
Legitimately the best professor I have ever had. Hands down. Stands apart in how much she cares what we learn in her class.
This class was taken during COVID definitely wouldn't recommend it. I don't feel she prepared well for quizzes or tests. She responds very fast and is eager to teach her students I just don't feel there was enough taught for what she would put on tests and quizzes.
I am just finishing up physiology! I wish Kristin taught all my classes. I have never learned so much so efficiently!
Kristin is extremely accessible. She understands that not everyone learns the same way. I have taken many online classes and this one is by far the best!
When I tried to do this on my own, with the book, it was a disaster. When I followed her lectures, and REACHED OUT to her, my grade came up so quickly! Take advantage of the ZOOM she offers. She is very patient and will answer all your questions.
Watch the lectures. STUDY from the Practice Quiz questions. Get an A. This class is very organized and it was a great fit for me because I am very organized.
I'm so glad I had this class before I took the TEAS! It really helped me most of all!!!!
This class is so much easier than the classes in my program! SAVE YOUR NOTES! I just dug out my notes on Loop of Henle to explain to my fellow students in my program.
I was not prepared for an online summer course. In spite of that, Kristin would absolutely not let me fail. When I was literally F-failing, she continued to reach out to me to schedule ZOOM sessions and make sure I was on track. She truly cares. I finished with a B!
I literally am sitting in my pathophysiology class in nursing school. I know everything because of Kristin. Even my patho professor here knows of Kristin. (asked who I learned physiology with.) LOL.
The greatest teacher I have had. I didn't learn anything from anatomy last semester so I thought this class would be hard. She is clear on what needs to be done. Her lectures tell you everything that will be on the tests and quizzes. You do not have to read that much or at all technically, but you will do better if you do. She truly cares about you
I took this class two years ago. I am now in Nursing School and another student from Kristin's class with me. We study together. We know everything! The other students are really struggling. SAVE YOUR NOTES. She was right. You will be really glad after you take this class because you will be thankful how much you know later on.
I have a BS in Biology already but retook physiology here to get a better grade. The way she taught this class was night and day from the professor I had at a 4-year university. She ONLY teaches whats important to know for the exam and future endeavors, no fluff. Shes very direct, if you use all her resources you WILL get an A.
I was worried about taking this class online, but this teacher is amazing! Her lectures are never over 40 minutes per chapter, and she's straight to the point. As long as you listen to her lectures a few times each and work on the study book than you'll know what you need to know on her tests. She doesn't ask questions that she hasn't covered.
This is a hard subject no doubt but she will pull you across the finish line if you allow her to help you. I did my worst academically in this class because exams, quizes, and even lab quizes, (lab quizes are open note) are hard. She will make sure you get 10 out of 10 on lab quizes however. Maybe the nicest most accommodating professor ever.
Probably the best professor I've ever had. She cares SO much about her students and is very personable and accommodating! I struggled in this online class only because physiology is a very hard subject. There are lab and lecture quizzes, 3 unit exams and 1 final exam. You will not regret taking physiology with Kristin! She is THE BEST!
Kristin really cared about me and my success! She is very direct with what she expects and wants. I struggled with this class because I was going through a lot this semester and with my other difficult classes I struggled to stay caught up with everything. She made sure that I was successful. She does make you work for your grade but she's great!
Prof. Kristin is one of those rare professors who TREMENDOUSLY CARE about seeing students succeed. However, the class is no joke! With discipline and hard work you should easily end up her class with the grade that you've been working for during the course of the semester. Prof. Kristin has simplistic lecture videos and is always accessible.
By far one of the best professors I have had! Kristin really cares about her students and that they do well in this course. I think her lectures are amazing and keep you engaged. She allows time at the end of every class to work with other students on the study guide as well as time before each test to ask questions and study. Take her class!
Kristin is amazing! She truly cares about your success in this class. There are 3 exams and 8 quizzes. Kristin has nutshell videos on what you need to know for them. I will say the exams were very challenging, but she is very accessible outside of class.
Her kindness and gift for teaching are unmatched. I have taken many college classes and this one is by far, best so far. Favorite professor. All time.
I just took my first Exam in this class. This is my favorite class ever! You don't need a book and you just learn what she teaches. Her lectures are enjoyable and the classmates are great. Kristin makes it so you WANT to learn.
Physiology with Kristin was my favorite class until I took Pathophysiology with Kristin. Now, it's a tie!
DO NOT TAKE HER! I have never came into contact with a professor that speaks down to her students as much as she does. She makes u feel stupid for not knowing material she hardly went over. Her wording on quizzes & exams is very difficult to follow. She tries to make this class way more difficult than needed. She expects alot & doesn't give alot.
Physiology is an already hard class as it is, but Kirstin does such a great job of breaking down key concepts. If you are a visual leaner, you will enjoy this class. Tests and quizzes will be over notes taken in class so make sure you fine tune and study them!
I literally got two Fs on Exams in this class and still finished with a B. She gives tons of extra-credit! (I did really well at the beginning of the course which helped me when I rolled in with Fs). I will stay that I wish I had taken anatomy face-to-face instead of online. I would have been more prepared. My anatomy was weak.
I struggled in this class at first, especially because all my previous sciences were online, but then I reached out to Kristin. She met me on ZOOM for tutoring EVERY DAY. Every day. She is extremely accessible and will do whatever she can if you are willing to reach out to her.
I have nothing but amazing things to say about Kristin because she cares so deeply about her students. I discourage taking this course hybrid because I failed. I took the course in-person and ended with an A. This class requires a ton of studying and if you don't understand something reach out to her and get help because everything correlates.
Professor Thurlby was one of the worst professors i've encountered in my whole college experience. I was failing her class and she wanted to do a zoom meeting with me, we met and she literally made me feel so low about myself. Was no help at all, didn't offer anything but to drop her class.I took her class Spring 2021but dropped.
If you like having enough time to learn the information in your notes, don't take Professor Thurlby. You have two days of lectures and then a quiz. The notes are also often all over the place and it's hard to follow. You will also have to do presentations for each chapter.
I am in nursing school. Kristin knows exactly what you need to know to be successful. If you do what she tells you to do, you will be able to be successful in nursing school. I feel sorry for my classmates who didn't have such preparation. Save your notes!
I have over 100% in this class. She gives tons of extra-credit. She also lets you trade a bad exam grade for a good one. You don't need a textbook, but you do need to spend the time to learn the content she teaches.
Kristin is a really kind person. If she offers to ZOOM with you one-on-one (and she WILL), then do it. Most profs won't give you that kind of attention. Her generosity in this way is why I have not dropped this class and why I am passing.
People in this class expect to show up and get an A because that is how they did it in other classes. It's like a regular college class, though. You will have to do your work but she will help you. Don't get behind! I was able to improve my time-management skills in this class before I go to nursing school next semester.
Kristin says, 'I didn't invent physiology.'. (Meaning: It is a hard subject.) But she is extremely accessible and will meet with you whenever and wherever you want, according to students schedules. That's how I did it! I met with her again and again and I improved, improved. If you don't reach out to her, you can only blame yourself.
I took physiology with Kristin. Then I took pathophysiology with Kristin. Then she helped me practice interview for nursing school. Then I was accepted to nursing school. I feel so prepared! I recommend doing it that way.
This course is refreshing (especially compared to anatomy). The expectations are clear. And Kristin gives a lot of opportunities to know what she will ask. She gives practice quizzes, practice questions, and it's very very clear. She also gives practice exams for extra credit. I'm so glad I took this class!
The BEST professor I've ever had. She is always willing to help. Her nutshell videos are amazing. Watch them through more than once to study and you barely need the textbook. She cares so much about seeing her students succeed and you actually learn and retain the info from her class. Definitely take if you are going into healthcare!
I took this class before. I have taken college classes at two other colleges. Kristin is the BEST professor I've ever had! I'm so thankful for her and this class. I'm ready for nursing school, finally, and I know I can succeed. She will give you confidence in what she teaches and she will do whatever she can to make you succeed.
I got an A in Kristin's class. I have taken this class twice before at other colleges, unsuccessfully. Kristin makes all the difference. She will tell you exactly what to do. I learned so much and I feel like it will stick.
Professor Thurlby is hard to follow. She's nice but seems scattered. I do not recommend her.
She gives 10% extra credit on every exam just for doing the practice exam. This is the most best professor I've ever had. She is very clear with what you need to do. You don't even need a book.
This class is for the mature person who wants to learn. If that is you, you are going to love it! I've learned so much and I'm surprised how much it sticks with me. I feel 100% ready for my program!
Don't get a textbook for this class. She will tell you that. Just listen to what she says and learn that part. It's so easy to follow if you just listen and study from your notes. Easy. Organized. Solid A.
I have learned more in this class than any other class in my entire life. After failing out of nursing school already, I'm going back! I had to retake the TEAS test and I knew everything....because of this class.
She is very disorganized. Hard to follow...would not recommend her.
Kristin is incredibly organized. She follows her syllabus exactly. I highly recommend this class!
Kristin is extremely caring, nice and truly wants to see her students pass BUT I would not recommend her for teaching, especially online. Her labs are confusing, and a waste of time, not helpful like she believes them to be and she writes her own tests and quizzes and there are SIX multiple choice options, not 4, SIX. Her quizzes and tests are hard
The best professor at JCCC!! Seriously, take this class with her. Physiology is hard but she goes above and beyond to make it accessible and help you succeed! She will zoom with you any time any day! Take up her many offers and your grade will improve, mine did. 3 unit exams 60 questions, final is 120 questions. 9 quizzes. And she's so funny!!
I've taken lots of online classes and this one is the BEST! She is very organized. Basically, you just need to learn what she says. No textbook . Study what she says in the lecture video. Her tests are straight from her videos. It's very clear!
I love these labs! Participation only (you don't need to get the correct data. ) NO lab reports submitted. If you show up, do the lab, you get 100% points and it's a huge grade boost. Take advantage!
I love these lectures! They are so clear and she has the ability to break down the hard content into easy to digest material. DO WHAT SHE SAYS and you will be fine. The people in the class who complain are not doing what she says.
Don't take physiology with this teacher unless you want to lose all hope and dignity for the future. She's very nice and caring, it's just the way she teaches. The notes she has us take are very disorganized and there is no homework. Your entire grade depends on how you do on tests and quizzes. I do what she says, but it's just inefficient.
I now know-- I learned nothing in Anatomy. I learned nothing in Physiology. I am learning both Anatomy and Physiology AND Pathophysiology all at the same time. No reading. No textbooks. Just listen and learn. Take excellent notes. It's all you need. She will teach it all to you!
I'm so glad I didn't drop this class. This is my third time to take physiology and I love her teaching style. Videos are short and no reading assigned. Just learn her videos. She is the best teacher I've ever had and I learned so much! Stick it out! So proud of my B
She gives so much extra credit. I like it that there is no textbook for this class. All you have to do is learn what she says in lecture and she is very clear how to take notes in class. Labs are free points for participation. Learn the info on the practice quizzes she provides and you are sure to get an A.
I've never had a professor CARE about me so much. She truly cares! Best professor I've ever had!
Kristin is extremely nice, but very disorganized.its lecture, lecture, quiz, which would be fine, but her lectures are all over the place and hard to follow. she is also not vert tech savvy which also makes things difficult. she gives you all the information you need via your notes, but rewords the questions on the quizzes/exams making if confusing.
This class is a mixed bag. The lectures are clear, but the grading relies heavily on tough tests. Attend class, take notes, and use Unstuckstudy to prepare - it really helps with the content.
Do not take her. She seems very scattered and is hard to follow. Very boring.
This is the easiest class I've had out of all my prerequisites. She will only test you over what is covered in class, not any extra book information. I have learned so much and I have almost 100%. All you have to do is learn what she says.
This is my second class with Kristin. First physiology and now pathophysiology. Actually, a lot of students take both of her classes. You will learn so much! I remember all of my physiology that she taught me last year.
She is scattered brained. All over the map!!!
I am cruising through microbiology this semester thanks to Kristin's physiology class that prepared me! My classmates are on the struggle bus. I'm grateful. SAVE YOUR NOTES from her class.
Kristin is SOOO ORGANIZED. She gives a syllabus and sticks to it. There are no surprises. The information she presents is in easy-to-digest-sections, in a logical order. I have learned so much and it's the kind of learning that stays with you. You don't even need a textbook unless for reference.
If I could give her 10 stars, I would! I wish Kristin could teach all my classes
When asked to zoom she was very rude. She seemed to make everything feel like it was my fault. She made me feel like I wasn't trying enough and that this class is so easy and other students do better.
I love her ZOOMs!!! They totally saved me in this class. She is so passionate about having her students succeed. You will have to do your part, but she will do her part and that's what it takes.
I agree with the person who mentioned that she made it seem like everything was my fault. I received zero support from her. She was extremely rude.
I wouldn't take this class with her again!!
I love Kristin and would take her again. Her notes sometimes can be scattered however just record lectures. Her quizzes and test are worded different from notes just study and practice the material. Don't overthink at all you will get an A, also study the study guides
The class structure was poor, and the instructor was disorganized.
This teacher makes the material more confusing than it needs to be. The tests feel like they are designed to trick students, and the class is disorganized. It doe not feel like she's helping students succeed more like she is seeing who will fail. Overall, it has been a frustrating experience that made learning harder than it needed to be.
I want everyone to take Kristin's class. She is not only the best professor I've had at JCCC, but the best teacher in my entire life. Mostly, she cares about students' success and gives tons of individual attention. You will need to just do what she says and you will succeed!
Everyone who takes this class WILL be successful in their careers. Do all the extra credit that she offers!!!
I just finished my first year of RN program and even though Kristin's class prepared me better than any of the other classes, you can expect her to spoon-feed you. She could have prepared me better for actual nursing school by making us learn more on our own.
I agree with the person who says she spoon feeds you but I LOVED that. It helped me to focus on my study habits and I know that I'm ready for the heavy load of nursing school. This was the best class I've ever had and I've taken classes at lots of colleges.
I've never had a professor show me such kindness. She will know you, write you letters of recommendation, practice interviews, give you extensions, zoom tutor you, meet you every day. She really does want all her students to succeed. I am blessed to have had her as my professor. I wish she could teach all my classes forever.
I just completed exercise physiology at KU and it was a breeze for me because of my foundation from Kristin's class. Not so much for my classmates, sadly for them...
Her class is very disorganized. I asked her for help, and just because I couldn't answer a question about the material, she told me to quit my dream RN program, saying I shouldn't waste my money on that. It was very rude.
Kristin is very fair and honest. One thing that I didn't like is that some of the students expect easy As and they don't want to do anything for the class. Kristin will bend over backwards to help you but you can't expect to do nothing.
I love her lecture videos! You will learn so much. I wish I could take more classes with her .This is the best class I have ever taken! So incredibly useful and it really sticks with you the way she teaches.
She is very disorganized. I did well in this class, but I wouldn't recommend taking it with her again.
Where do begin? Kristin is such an awesome person and professor. She gives you all that you need to succeed in this course. She really cares about her students and their success. Her nutshell videos are so helpful and really narrows down the information to what you need to know. I loved taking her class. She is so kind and caring.
She is great! I took Micheal Miller for Anatomy and she is very similiar to him. Lots of quizzes, but gives extra credit for taking practice quiz/test. No lecture slides but gives notes to take a pic of. Has nutshell videos so you can watch them if you missed anything in class. Great at getting back to emails/questions. Gives heads-up for quizzes.
So disorganized. Hard to follow. Do not take her.
