very nice, kinda funny. she's really helpful.. she'll answer any question and labs are fun with her cuz she makes some into games (competitions)lab reports are pretty easy, all she expects from you is to have objective, procedure, and setups done before class. (it makes it easier to finish on time) i recommend her :)
She is extremely helpful, she makes lab fun with competitions. She always makes sure everyone understands everything. I would recommend her.
Okay, this professor is definitely one of my favorites so far at ECU. She tries to get everyone involved, and she actually tries to get you to understand how things work and why they work that way in the lab. My only regret is not being able to sign up for her 1161 class because it filled up so quickly.
be nice to your ta
In a 5 week summer session, I understand that you have to get through the notes and teach an entire course. However, that does not excuse the fact that if students are not understanding the material, you can't keep going through the notes. "I don't understand" does not mean "please keep going through the slides as quickly as possible."
Its a little early to be rating a professor, but someone beat me to it. Ms. Voytek is awesome. She has a sense of humor and can bring a smile to your face no matter how you feel at 8 a.m. However, after only 4 days I feel that she cannot make this subject any easier. Intuition, hard work, and guts are your best friends. The powerpoints really suck!
Professor Voytek is undoubtedly one of the harder chemistry professors. To say the least, the chem head had to come talk to our class because there were so many complaints from students. She doesnt wait up for students and wont give any curves, extra credit, or anything that would otherwise aid a student in getting a better grade. DONT TAKE HER!
This women is horrible. She showed up unprepared and even left the name of another person on one of her slides, proving she didnt make the slides. She did not want to help her students and only cared about getting through the material rather we understood or not. Avoid her at all cost. She DOES NOT CARE about her students, end of story.
horrible teacher
Having taken the summer course with Miss Voytek I thought she did a great job! She is hard but gives lots of examples and she does her best to help you if you ask for it. Chemistry is a tough class to begin with but Miss Voytek does her best to make it crystal clear. The comments below are unfair to Miss Voytek. If you work hard, come to class,
I took CHEM 1160 2nd Summer Session with Mrs. Voytek.Any bad comment below is completely wrong and unfair. She was extremely helpful and easy to talk to. She goes out of her way to help you and really cares about her students. Chemistry is not an easy subject. She does an outstanding job of delivering the material. My favorite Chem. professor by far!
Horrible teacher, shes all over the place is inconsiderate and disrespectful to students. NEVER at her office during office hours. Doesnt curve, give extra credit, or any kind of practice exams. But the finals easy if you dont know anything about chemistry dont take her.
I was in her for basic chemistry going in I had taken it in high school but didn't remember it well. She was an ok teacher but she doesn't curve or anything so it makes her class hard. I wouldn't recommend her because she's strict on attendance and very rude to some people in the class
She is not a very nice teacher at all. When we ask questions we are met with a very sarcastic "Are you kidding me?" No curves, no extra credit, and she makes it so you do not want to go to her for help. We have another teacher in our class and every student would rather go to the other teacher or the TA for help.DO NOT TAKE HER IF YOU CAN HELP IT.
I am taking her intro to chem right now! she explains everything very clear and her slides have everything on it including a review of the whole powerpoint. She holds review sessions upon requests and also group ones. I plan on taking her chemistry lab next semester.
her prep chem class is pretty easy. it helps to go to class and study your notes. she posts power points. class is usually interesting and fun. she explains everything pretty well but moves quickly! homework is tedious but it helps. good class if taking next level chem!
She is a decent teacher, but can be really confusing. She makes you not want to talk to her or ask her for help. She can be really rude and disrespectful, and when a student gives her attitude back, she does not like it at all. When people walk in late she flips out and she makes more of a distraction to students than the people that walk in late.
She is Sooooo anooying!!!! I cant stand to hear her voice
I had her prep chemistry class and she is not a horrible teacher, but she is not very helpful either. She flies through material, does not answer emails quickly, and flips out over little things like one person coming in late. She is VERY rude to students. Tests are fairly hard too. No extra credit, extra review, or curves. Take at your own risk.
Taking Prep course now with her. Worst class ever. She's not quick to respond to emails and when she does it usually is not helpful. When she says that she'll get back with you don't believe it. Should've dropped this course when I had the chance but I wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt.
One word.....AWESOME :)
As long as you keep up with homework and pay attention you'll do fine. Tests are exactly like homework but ALWAYS study. Overall a good teacher but is pretty rude to students.
She goes over everything multiple times and if you pay attention and do problems along with her in class then she is awesome. Her assignments aren't that hard and she curbs finals. She is rude sometimes but only if you deserve it. If you don't interrupt class or be rude then you will be just fine.
Absolute worst teacher. Very rude to students and is so hard to approach. Also not forgiving of ANY mistakes. Don't take any of her classes!!
She's an alright teacher overall, but difficult to approach. She goes through slides quickly and has a great way of making everyone who asks a question feel like an idiot. I wouldn't recommend her to others.
I really enjoyed this class and professor. If you are not strong at Chemistry or Math, it will be slightly difficult. You do have to study a lot, but she is very good at making you understand the material. I recommend taking this class with this professor! :)
I absolutely love Voytek. She is funny and a great teacher. I had her for lab and not lecture. She subbed our lecture once and first time i actually learned. She is a great teacher. She can be very blunt so if you dont like that dont take her but she is GREAT !I LOVE VOYTEK
Dr. V is intimidating. She is very helpful, but it took a lot of courage for me to start asking her questions. Once I got comfortable with her class, I was able to ask her questions about my lecture class. She knows what shes doing, and she really cares about all her students and safety. Don't you dare come late or unprepared.
Voytek is a pretty funny lady with a decent sense of humor I must admit, but she really can seem intimidating. I absolutely hate labs, but I didn't do too shabby in her section. She doesn't really check over lab reports before class, so you can still correct/touch up before leaving. The final for chem lab IS hard btw, so study!
I have a good overall grade, but she's not really great at being an online professor/teacher. She will post stuff late and even without notification. I have sent her 3 emails and she has only emailed me back once and still never answered my question. Just check daily for assignments and you'll be fine. She will NOT send any friendly reminders.
Honestly she is a great teacher! I learned so much in her class and her attitude is amazing, but her tests are hard because she likes to use trick questions so even if you study her notes you are never guaranteed an A. She is understanding and lenient when it comes to grades. Overall I thought she is a great teacher!
She makes the class very boring. No curves, no dropping lowest exam score. honestly made me hate Bio1100 and Biology is my major so that should tell your something. DO NOT take her.
I have never met her in person being that i took her online course. I have email her numerous times with questions and have not received any emails back. I would expect that she would be on top of emails being that it is the only form of communication we have with her. Other than that her class is pretty easy, just don't expect email responses.
She is a pretty difficult teacher. She is not good at answering emails, and she can sometimes be a little scatter brained. The grade you earn is the grade you get, no curves or extra credit. She doesn't drop any grades. Tests are tough. She does add 10 points to your final if no one in the class gets caught with a phone the entire semester.
You have to be a certain type of person to do well with Voytek . At times she can be really scatter-brained and a fruitcake. While the material is not that difficult, her tests have a very small and confusing selection of what was discussed in class. She gives a lot of online homework that is vary time consuming. Overall not too hard but annoying.
I had her for the anatomy labs (2141). Only class where I've ever received a grade below a C. Retook the class, made an A. And each practical is different so it's NOT because I'd seen the same tests again. It's because she wasn't clear in her lectures, or what was going to be on the practicals, and extremely rude when I visited her office. Awful!
Only homework you have is to study for the quiz next class. Gives pop quiz every class. Only grades you get are quizzes, midterm, and final. Gives extra credit chances if whole class fails. Will not put in your grades until semester is over; must keep track of them yourself. Would not recommend if you struggle with biology.
Dr Voytek is really weird and funny and makes her class enjoyable. I really like her personality and she makes her powerpoints easy to understand and follow. She lets us out early almost everyday too. There are pop quizzes for attendance. Her tests are pretty hard but if you know her slides you'll do fine. I didn't need the textbook at all
I would question this "professors" mental stability. Lashes out easily, difficult to deal with, and is not clear and concise with her answers.
Anatomy is overall a difficult class... I don't know why everyone is being so harsh about this professor. She encourages class participation during lectures and she is funny, but she does get off-topic sometimes. Definitely a character. Lots of homework, but it really helps for studying. MUST buy the book to do well. Learned a lot in this class.
Professor Voytek is great, the course is tough and each lecture has a ton of material. She is funny and tries to keep the class active with occasional participation. Go to class, do the homework, take advantage of extra credit (she gives a lot). Youll be fine.
She loves science. She knows how to go into depth about little things, which can make it difficult on knowing what to study for. You will have 4 exams and a final. This class covers ALOT of material, too much if you ask me. Overall, be prepared to study a lot. She gives extra credit every now and then. & Come to class for participation grade.
Voytek is not the worst but she isn't the best as a teacher. Having said that, she is a caring & respected person outside of class. She may be super intimidating at first but don't worry, she'll loosen up towards the middle-end of the semester. You just have to try harder & you'll definitely pass the class.
I had Voytek for Anatomy and she was good overall. Her lectures are looonnngggg so it gets hard to pay attention. Attendance is taken using Tophat and points are deducted each time.. so go to class!! She offered numerous chances for extra credit so take advantage. She's hilarious and gets off topic easily. Oh and sometimes she lets you out early :)
Took this class online, and the course was what you make of it. Read her lecture notes! If you do the homework and read the notes, you will do just fine.
LECTURE HEAVY do not come late to class she is very descriptive in her lectures however, if you skip, you will be lost due to the amount of info. covered, best interest to attend class, expect to put forth quality study time for a quality grade
hard tests, too much information
Voytek is kinda funny and her class is very difficult and includes lots of information. if you are a slacker and not good at bio don't take her class. you miss a class you basically fail a test. there are only 4 tests and the final exam. there is homework on mastering bio its a lot so don't put it off.
If I knew for a split second that she was teaching another class I was signed up for, I would immediately drop. I've never dreaded going to a class so much. Covers way too many chapters, way too fast. Study long and hard for her exams. DO the extra credit if you wanna pass and please don't show up late or let your phone/ computer ring during lectur
I would never recommend taking her class to anyone. A lot of information covered way too fast. She moves on wether you know it or not, because its not her problem if you do not understand. Three exams that are pretty tough and there are no other grades that really help boost you if you do bad on the exams. Do not take her!!!!
I would never recommend taking her class to anyone. A lot of information covered way too fast. She moves on wether you know it or not, because its not her problem if you do not understand. Three exams that are pretty tough and there are no other grades that really help boost you if you do bad on the exams. Do not take her!!!! Took her for Bio.
Awful!! Would not recommend at all, even if youre good at science.
She is boring and sarcastic. She picks on people that come in late and is not a pleasant person to deal with. She didn't curve tests; however, there was an extra credit opportunity. Overall is mediocre at explaining basic concepts of biology. Grading criteria for homework is vague and can blindside is not completion grade.
This class is difficult, but I feel she is a wonderful teacher. She gives a lot of homework, but it's not really that bad if you stay on top of it. She's a tough grader, and don't bother asking to round up your grade. I worked very hard for that B+. That said, I feel she knows her stuff very well and would still recommend her classes.
One of the worst teachers in the Biology Department. I took anatomy with her and it was one of the worst decisions I made. In class she will read off powerpoints and make sarcastic comments about students. When it comes to tests you are on your own. She does not give study guides or practice exams. Better off reading the book.
wouldn't recommend as a professor at all. She is very lecture heavy and tries to go over way too much information at a time. She emphasizes things to memorize and says they will be on the test but there ends up being one or two questions out of 60+ on the exams. This class is basically teach yourself and pray that you do well. DONT TAKE HER CLASS!!
She was honestly so hard. I thought I would like learning about this material, but she made it miserable. There is so much information on each chapter and then the test are with 4 chapter so its ALOT of information. She was too fast pace for me & you really had to make this class your 1st priority. Don't think she realizes its not only class i have
The tests are extremely hard to pass, and lectures are difficult to understand... if youre late you will get called out in class.
Voytek is easily one of the hardest professors I've ever had, even in my junior year at ECU. She is insanely rude and intimidating to students. Don't dare come in late; she'll embarrass you in front of the entire class. She goes through a large amount of material far too quickly, and her tests are very very tough. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS!
Principles of Biology 1000 with Professor Voytek is hands down the toughest class. She does not explain thoroughly and her exams are extremely hard to pass... after spending an enless amount of time in the library studying for her exams. She's very rude, sarcastic, and gets off topic easily. 10 out of 10 do NOT reccomend.
I've never felt so dumb in a class. Covers way too much material way too fast. Tests are extremely hard with no curve. Picks on students and embarrasses them in front of the class. Has an attitude with those who don't understand
This is one of the most boring hardest teachers I've ever had. She expects you to know the material before she goes over it and gets mad when the class doesn't know . Oh and don't be late for class, you will be embarrassed. She has too much material to go over which makes test harder to study for. Only 10 people would pass the exam each time.
Voytek is one of the hardest professors I have ever taken and I have never felt so stupid in a class. She is rude and if you come in late RIP. She goes over so much material in such little time and expects each student to memorize every little detail. Tests are extremely hard and detailed. I would not recommend this professor to anyone.
She wasn't a terrible teacher. She was pretty nice and explained things well. If you don't study for the tests, you won't pass. Attendance isn't mandatory, however on some days she'll pass out a notecard to everyone to make sure you're in class. If you're late she calls you out and makes you answer a question about a topic previously covered.
The class itself has a lot of content so in the lecture she covers a lot which can be overwhelming. Overall, she was a good teacher, but her exams are very hard and some questions on them were not or briefly covered in lecture.
Do not come late to class because you will have to answer a question she comes up with. Gives pop quizzes which she uses as attendance grades. Study homework and notes to prepare for the exams.
Professor Voytek is not really a people person, but she knows her material and she makes you work for your grade. It takes more than just reading over the slides to pass. You have to know the material like your back hand. The PASC does NOT help at all! But just do your homework (quizlet) and go to class and get your attendance grade & youll do fine
2130 is set up to be very fast paced and she warns you of that from the beginning. you cover almost a full chapter a day and four chapters are on each test. the tests are harder than just memorizing information on the slides, you really have to know the material to do well. definitely makes you work for a good grade
I enjoyed Professor Voytek's class very much. Do not take her if you are lazy and not willing to work for your grade. However, if you do your homework, pay attention to her lectures, and actually dedicate time to study, the tests are easy and just like her power points. She explains everything and always made sure to point out things on the test.
Voytek is literally the only professor I enjoy and I don't understand why people hate her so much. If you are a person who is willing to put forward effort then this is a class you can be in. Coming to class is a must!!! I understand where she is coming from when she will do a notecard after a bunch students leave in the middle class.
Voytek wants the best for her students. If she didn't she wouldn't do notecards for attendance. The ones who consistently come to class and STAY the whole time know that. She doesn't like for y'all to disrespect her and waste her time. She is knowledgeable and needs to be treated as such. 2 EC assignments in 1 week? She didn't HAVE to do that.
She likes students to come to class on time but if you have a reasonable excuse for why you are late she will let it go. To students giving her attitude when she asks you why youre late or to not be on your phone during class: reevaluate why you are taking the class. She let yall know from the start so dont get mad when she enforces her standards.
This class really isn't that bad if you put in the effort. It's a 4 credit class, it's supposed to be challenging. Voytek is very knowledgeable and genuinely wants her students to do well. the negative reviews on here are most likely from people unwilling to put in the effort.
The course covered a lot of material, so she had to teach fast! She is very fair on tests and tends to give extra credit. She will definitely call you out if you are being disruptive, but I liked that about her. If anyone is giving her a bad review it is because they didn't work hard for their grade. She is a wonderful professor! Go to class!!
I got an A+ in this class and still wouldnt recommend her to anyone. One of the worst professors at ECU. Very rude, graded mostly by tests, BUT does give EC and easy HW grades. Still not great tho.
she is so hard to understand and doesnt fully explain anything. however, her tests are solely based off the hw quizzes she gives out
I gave Dr. Voytek many great ratings in the past and I hate to see horrible ratings of her at the top of this page. She was very fair and gave out extra credit often. Her tests were nearly the same as practice tests but any additional questions are a "guaranteed test question". The problem was that everyone liked to skip or walk out.
Dr. Voytek doesn't deserve half the things said about her. She gave out easy extra credit that was something you needed to know for the test. Notecards were the easiest 100. Most test questions are on the practice tests. The homework questions are on quizlet (I made a whole series of them). There's additional instructors and PASC if you dont get it
I really hate to hear conversations about not liking Dr. Voytek. Its heartbreaking because she went out of her way to help my class and I know she does the same now with EC and notecards. Shes very clear about her standards for her students. What is so hard about coming to class? Just being there will help your grade tremendously.
Her powerpoints are vey long. she goes over them very fast and its hard to keep up. the homework isn't too bad since you do it on your own time. The tests are loaded with material (you need to study days in advance). She is very smart but wants you to know the material like the back of your hand. She has a few extra credit opportunities.
Basically have to teach yourself the material in this course. If you learn by handwriting notes, good luck. Voytek flies through powerpoints because there is so much to cover and doesn't give you enough time to write down "guaranteed test questions." Also has a habit of stopping lecture if one person walks in late to yell at them. Avoid if possible
Long powerpoint lectures. She covers the material too fast. Very few opportunities to bring your grade up if you do not score well on tests. She calls people out for walking in late or for having the wrong color note cards.
Powerpoints are lengthy, but informational & also on Blackboard to help review. Voytek is a knowledgable professor, but doesn't tolerate tardiness or cell phones so just show up on time and put your phone away. Gave many extra credit opportunities and tweaks final grades a lot to make sure students do well. Overall a tough class but not the worst
She is one of my favorite profs to this day. She is clear about her expectations from day 1 and I never had any issues. Review the checklist at the end of every chapter before the test and write the answers out on a white board. Go to class bc notecards and she hints at what is on the tests. Homework was always simple and a good review.
Professor Voytek is a good teacher overall. However, if you are taking her for you first level of Biology I recommend considering other professors. The class itself was not hard if you showed up but the tests were very hard and didn't relate to the study guide much.
Her lectures helped me get through the class and do well on the tests. She presented the material in an organized and logical method. There was an occasional pop quiz or extra credit opportunity.
Loved her! she loves the material and she interacts with students during lectures, sometimes with corny jokes. I taught her how to say "periodt" in class, but I'm not sure if she still says it. stay on top of the online homework, due dates are set. she does good with one-on-ones and asks if everyone's ok w the material at the start of the class.
A terrible professor
Generally uncaring. Even though the website to turn in assignments and study was offline, she was apathetic and inflexible.
I struggled with learning how to take notes and study for her class you need to understand how the material relates to each other not just the material. She makes you work for the extra credit opportunities. Mastering biology homework is the easiest way to understand the information for the test use mastering as much as possible before the test.
She is a piece of garbage. I contacted her informing her that my family member passed away, and that is why I missed the midterm. I had a 96% prior to this, and she refused to allow to me to make it up unless a university excused absence was presented in a 3 day time frame although it takes them 5-7 business days to review. Awful human being.
She is an excellent professor and super knowledgeable! She is very clear about what she wants and what it takes to get an A in the class. She wants her students to pass and understand the material. She provides extra credit for each exam which also helps with studying the material.
this class was so easy, just memorization. i recommend taking health terminology with professor pickett before this class to have a background, but you'd be fine without. it's been a really great class and as long as you put some work in and a few hours of focus time a week, you're chillin. she also allows resets on tests if you have wifi issues
