She is a good pro, everything is clear and need to write 6 essays for the whole semster.
professor allende rocks! she's clear to understand and is extremely helpful when you're lost and think you don't know crap. she gets all giddy when you explore beyond the literal meaning.
She's a really interesting talker with a lot of insight. She grades fairly and she's enthuastic. I would recommend her.

grades fair and lectures can be interesting at times
can be interestin at times and grades okay
Very nice teacher. Explains clearly and act cool. Write long paper in her class. She likes that :)
Very nice teacher. She doesn't grade to hard on the essays. I got a B and english is my worst subject.
Boring instructor. I thought I was unconscious after 5 minutes hearing her lecture.
Most people think she is boring, sometimes she can be, but for the most part her lectures are interesting. She grades pretty fair, there are in class essays and outside essays, she lets you know that she grades them both fairly different.
I like her class but her lectures are quite tedious, and her grading scale is off.I have always excelled in English and done well.Yet for some reason her class has been bad.If you think you want to take her think again because the illerate next to you will probably score better than you!Honestly.
IF YOU WANT A GOOD TEACHER THAN DONT TAKE HER!!!! SHE FAILED ME AFTER TELLING ME THAT I WAS GONNA PASS WITH A "C". SHE GRADES HARD !!!!
great teacher, you actually learn how to write a good essay, discussions are very interesting, i sure recommend her for any class she teaches, she is always available, easy to approach.
she converts easy things into complicated, boring lectures. you teach yourself with homework. she tends to explain important material needed for an assignment last minute.
She is a great teacher who is very helpful and is quite interesting. Her demeanor suggests she is a very devoted educator. Her lectures are very clear and will help improve your writing. Those who gave her a bad rating are probably slackers who didnt like the grade they got. Take her, she's awesome.
EXCELLENT TEACHING STRATEGY. SOMEWHAT STRICT ON WORK. BEAUTIFUL WOMAN. DEFINITION OF A TRUE ENGLISH PROFESSOR. HOPE TO GET HER NEXT SEMESTER.
She is a great teacher, prob the best so far. The definition of a true English teacher, grades fair and desn't try to trick you, clear lectures and cool to talk to about literature, however, if u just want an easy A sleeping class then take a mediocre teacher, but not her
not too bad, not too good. However, i received an A+, so whatever the case, take this class if you want a good grade
says one thing and gives another.
Very helpful and understanding. Never rude.
She is nice but i don't like the way she grades. i was getting good grades in my essays, but i ended up with a C in the class. It's confusing the way she grades.
Allende is not qualified to be teaching literature above the 4th grade reading level.
SHE FAILED ME and i did all the work!! Does not give second chances and is a very strict grader. She does not consider the recent lift in pre-requisite required. And like the guy said before me: she converts easy things into complicated, boring lectures. Learned a few essential things in the class, but she extends it into long periods.
miss allende is a difficult grader but she is very fair. people who fail must have turned in bad work. i learned alot and recommend her. just know that you have to work hard but its worth it.
She is nice, but her class is really BORING. I do not like the way she grades because it is hard to get an A.
this teacher was supposed to be easy according to this website but they were wrong. This teacher is horrific and terrible. She says u got a C in the class and are going to pass when you really fail the class. She looses some of your papers some of the time! She is a tough grader on essays! You have to a major in english in order to get A on a essay
Very good person all around. Not to in depth with a few things but that is what makes me talk to her after class and get help. Although... shes always happy... it scares me!!!!
she had a great personality, which made me want to pay attention more in class.. although i cant figure out why i got a C instead of a B (probably cause of homework) she was still awesome
She encouraged student discussion of the texts and was clear about what she wanted for the exams. Very friendly and VERY helpful.
She was a shininh example of what an ideal professor of English should be. Applauds and cheers for Professor Allende. She was so hot too.
She's a really great teacher, she doesnt bore u in her lectures and gives understandable work and goes through things step by step i totally reccomend her
She is the best teacher ever. She is the one who inspired me to make my major English! I've taken 2 classes with her and am going for a 3rd. She does a lot of group discussions and is extremely helpful on the essays. You will not be sorry if you take her!
She was too hard on the students. A lot of students dropped the class. Although I passed the class, most of my classmates were not as lucky. Her class is not for the faint of heart!
Ms. Allende is a very hard professor to take for English. She gave hard quizzes and graded most unfairly on all of my essays. She also made us take this long quiz on a lot of hard material that was all fill-in. My average on essays was only 60 something percent, compared to a prof I had that gave me a high 80 percent. Don't take her.
I took Ms. Allende again after she gave me a D in Engl 68. She wasn't clear on things and didn't answer an important e-mail I sent. That e-mail would have saved me from withdrawing from the class. I am glad in a way that I did drop because she gave too much work and quizzes. She was a pain, inconsiderate, unclear, and picky!
She was a very good and intersting teacher. Her grading wasn't too harsh and she let you know what she wanted. She is funny and makes the class as fun and interesting as English could really ever be.
eee. she is very enthusiastic about her job, and she loves literature, but just because she loves it doesnt mean she should be teaching it. overall shes a good person.
Mrs. Allende is a great teacher. Im a below average student, and I came away with a strong A. Because I tried. If you actually try and actually do the time it takes to get better then there is no way you could get less than an A. Her enthusiasm and interest in the subject is refreshing if nothing else. You couldnt ask for a better teacher.
She is an awesome teacher! She makes class interesting and fun. The essays can get pretty tiring but if you work hard and read the material you'll do fine.
She loves lit. Very enthusiastic about what she does. She does give a lot of homework. Definitely not a class for slackers.
Horrible teacher. You seriously learn nothing in her class except how to brown nose a teacher. May not grade attendance but you will see that "grade" when she grades your papers. If you can take ENGL 1A from anyone else DO IT!!!
Horrible teacher in that she doesn't teach you anything. Makes you write a lot of papers and tells you to read way too much. If you can get a different teacher for 1A do it.
Don't take her. The work is frustrating because of her ridiculously strict and picky grading. Very boring. Gives a huge load of work with unrealistic expectations. It's impossible to get an A in her class.
i do not recommend her especially if you take her in the early morning. She grades really hard, you must have her same beliefs as her and suck up. But go to her office hrs. it helps your grade.
Prof. Allende is passionate about literature and it shows. I truly enjoyed her class. I feel I learned a lot about the literature and about how I respond to it. There is a lot of assigned reading for this class, and you must be able to stay on top of it. I highly recommend Prof. Allende, especially for Eng/Lit majors!
She's enthusiastic about teaching the subject. I have to admit that taking her class has made me a better writer. It's not the easiest class, but she grades fairly. You do have to put in effort into your work, but it's worth it. I gained a lot out of the class. Allende is also very nice and approachable. I also took Eng 68 with her.
I took a hybrid class with this professor and it was a huge mistake!!!!! She was never able to help me via email, every answer i got from her was "come see me in my office" I believe an professor of a hybrid class should be able to answer me online!
Eng 1A She gave quiz nearly every class. She also had us type two pages of response every meeting. Plus, there were like 5 essays and 1 research paper. She is very hard compared to other 1A teacher. The response papers are unnecessary. A lot of other teacher had less essays and no response paper. Unfortunately, I knew this after I finish the class.
DO NOT TAKE HER HYBRID CLASS! i met up with her 3x throughout the winter session and she said i was doing well...i ended up getting a D. She is not helpful and very borring. dont take her!
I majored in English despite of the lack of help I received from her.I chose to research on French Symbolism.I kept telling her that I couldn't find enough information(at the time) pertinent to my topic.Yet, she told me to stick to the topic and then she gave me a C in the class because the paper didn't have enough sources. That's what I told her!
Had her few years ago. Found her very wiling to help. Don't know why ppl are complaining.
Even though I did earn a "B" in her class I would not recommend her hybrid class. She graded based off rules rather than content. What I mean is she marks you down 15% if it isn't the required length. My B paper dropped to a D because of a missing paragraph. I felt like I was back in high school. Quizzes every class meeting and if you do the readin
Professor Allende is a college-level English professor. She's brilliant, passionate about her subject, and uses literature to teach writing and analytic skills, rather than the boring text books many other professors use. She knows her subject and is the dept. chair. If you work hard and follow directions, you will succeed and learn to write WELL.
Do not take her hybrid class. The fast pace is fine. But if you plan on taking the hybrid plan on spending a lot of time in the writing center. Read the prompts severals times because they can be confusing. Make life easier on you...avoid her hybrid class. She used my class to convey her beliefs of vegetarianism. Interesting ,but not my cup o tea.
I like this class. Professor Allende chose good readings, and she is very passionate about them. I'd recommend this class.
She is pretty straight-forward with what she wants done. She understands her class isn't the only thing going on in your lives. She tells you how to plan the readings so you can stay on track. She is a pretty easy grader, doesn't really require of much. Just answer the prompt. She's funny and gives great discussions.
Hybrid attendance mandatory but sessions are worth attending. Extremely helpful and class is well organized. Responds to emails very quickly. Great online teacher. Take her!
Professor Allende is a great professor; however, the class is pretty demanding for a Engl 1A course. Five papers - two were three full pages, and three were four full pages and a research paper which was seven full pages. She grades pretty fairly though. I'll either have an A or a B depending on how I do on the final essay.
Professor Allende is a great teacher. She gives feedback on all essays and is very helpful if you need clarification. Complete all assignments and you will most likely pass.
took this class because she was rated good. I tested in to English 1A and to my surprise it was quite difficult. She expects you to know everything she teaches in her English 67 class even though you didn't take it. expect to write a lot of papers, about 5 are 3-4 pages long and the research paper about 7 pages.
Very personable. Willing to listen to your opinion. Expects you to be an adult as you should be. Interested in making you think critically. Would take her for all my english classes if i could.
Professor Allende is definitely very passionate about literature. She did choose good readings throughout the semester. I would say she's a tad bit of a tough grader, she bases it off how much you participate and talk in the class. Therefore, participation is recommended and makes you stand out more as a student towards her.
So much of all of Professor Allende's class sessions is class interaction and discussion. If you've done the work and are willing to talkwrite about it, you'll do fine. Papers and assignments are hard enough that, if you're looking to skate, it's not going to work. She gives great feedback and is available out of class for guidancehelp.
She is available to students and makes sure you do well on your papers
Best English professor. She's passionate about her profession, encourages all writing styles, and is always available. The lectures are group discussions 90% of the time and are based off the interesting, and controversial, readings. 4 Essays, 1 Research Paper, and the Final. Quizzes for most readings. Papers are graded by her rubric.
Seriously do not take her!!!!! Her grading makes absolutely no sense! Yes she is passionate about her profession, but seriously I think she is extremely lazy. If you want her to correct your rough draft for your essay; she'll only correct the first page and she'll do it half-ass. You must visit her a lot to pass her class. Show you really care.
Professor Allende is clear on what she expects for all assignments. Each class was interesting and made you see things differently. If you ask for help, she will assist you. She gives great feedback and emails back fast. By the end of the semester the workload is less. Manage your time wisely and you will do just fine. Overall a great professor.
yes she's passionate about her profession, but she's an extremely tough grader. when you ask her to check your essay before you have to turn it in, she skims through it for a minute and says it's fine. then gives a low grade when she grades and gives the essay back. i get why she has a lot of good reviews, but i just didn't like her class.
The most frustrating thing about this teacher is she is not clear on assignments. Most of her quizzes had material that we did not cover and was not provided. More than half the class was lost. The whole course is based off food and feels more like a nutrition class. There is not much inspiration to write 8 essays, and a research paper on just food
She is the cutest professor out there! She genuinely wants you to find something great about her class. Its not hard to come to lecture because of how great she makes every assignment. Two take home essays, a research paper, and a take home final. The class decides the homework assignments and when essays are due. TAKE HER! You won't regret it!
Professor chooses great books to read and write about. She is definitely not a harsh grader but does expect improvements from you throughout each essay. She is very kind, very approachable, and cares greatly about how you do in her class. Assignments and essay topics are easy. Just make sure you take your time on your essays and you will pass! :^)
This felt more like a food class than an English class based on everything being focused on food-related topics. Youll be reading The Omnivores Dilemma which is about food & The Jungle by Upton Sinclair which is also about food or at least is food-related. Plus you watch documentaries in class about, you guessed it, food! Its all about food!
I took a hybrid class with her and all her info online was organized and specific. She is very easy to reach out to and even held regular student hours which I wish I would have taken more advantage of. The reading and papers are manageable if you put the time in, and she douse a great job of giving directions and feedback to the class.
Took the English1A Hybrid class. Class was one day a week and the rest of the work was done online. This was my first college class and it was a good experience. She responded to emails very quickly and the classes were enjoyable. Definitely recommend this class.
She's so friendly and had snacks available every morning. Her work load may be a bit on the heavy side, but she does give you the ability to work around the due dates depending on the hw assignments you choose to do. It seemed heavy to me because I had to push some stuff last minute, but overall, anyone should be able to get through this class
Not a single complaint. Homework makes you think but isn't overwhelming, she's very easy to contact, gives great feedback, and understands late work. Easy to manage and she's super helpful and so sweet. Lecture, reading, quiz, discussion board every week. One big paper and three exams. Plenty of prep time. HIGHLY recommend.
Awesome professor. Required readings were interesting and group/class discussions were helpful. Discussion boards every week, 5 quizzes (group work in class), two critical essays, and two exams. Late work accepted with no penalty. Easy to contact and answers messages even on the weekends. Always willing to help. Highly recommend.
I had a really good experience with Prof. Allende. She was extremely helpful and provided great feedback on writing assignments. We had a discussion board and quiz every week that went with the readings. Her class is easy as long as you stay on top of the work. We had 3 papers, a research paper and a final exam paper.
the best !!
I have taken both Lit. 1 & 2 with Prof. Allende because of her clear grading criteria. You get a grace period for every assignment, no questions asked. Plenty of reading but manageable writing assignments, usually with no wrong answers, but requires participation for it. Very supportive and loves to give extra-credit for going to school events.
I honestly really like Professor Allende. Every assignment, including essays and tests, had a 2 week grace period for late work. We had a discussion board and quiz given weekly. She honestly was super nice and respectful to all her students. She also always had snacks set up for her students to take if they needed.
The professor is amazing. The only downside, is tons and tons of reading you have to do, so be ready for that. She really likes it if you participate in class discussions and answer your quizzes and discussion boards using quotes and references to the reading. She gives a solid grace period as well, so to be honest you have to try hard to fail.
I liked the structure of the class as every week I knew to expect reading, quiz, discussion, and occasionally a test. It was divided into 3 sections, and the 1st was very reading-heavy but once we moved to the poetry and drama units there wasn't as much. The only issue I had was there not being very clear grading criteria.
It's a literature class EXPECT TO READ!!!! She has a grace period which is nice. You will have 4 essays to do in total. Weekly discussion posts and quizzes.
