Guys take this class one of the best looking teachers at Tech.
Yeah, she's nice to look at but she sort of has no idea what she's talking about. She came in one day and said, "Guys, let me reteach you this because I taught it wrong last week."
Always willing to help, tests were not that hard if you studied a little and she was easy to listen to in class. Also she's smokin hot. Probably why it's easier to pay attention.
Some struggled, but the class wasn't all that difficult. If math isn't your strong suit, you'll be disappointed to hear that this class is 100% math. She always encouraged questions, though, and did her best to make sure everyone was on the same page.
Great professor! And she's a total babe, so it's not hard to get motivated to go to class. Definitely take her if you can.
Mildly unapproachable and rude. Not sure if versed in what she is trying to teach. Easy B, just don't expect to actually learn something let alone talk with the professor.
I took American Public Policy online and aced it. Just have your book by your side when you take the tests. You get two chances so open your first attempt in a separate browser for the second. I never had to talk to her. Easiest A in my college career.
This is a very heavy reading course. The readings and online lessons proved extremely useful when taking quizzes, writings, and tests. NEVER GO TO TALK TO HER! She is very unapproachable. Made me feel like a burden when I went for some paperwork for her to sign, or to ask for clarification on a subject in the unit.
As long as you keep ahead of the online work, then you'll be fine. You get 2 attempts on the quizzes which give you the answers, answer the entire part of the question for the discussion, and make sure you have your textbook at all times!
The professor was on a pregnancy leave the entire semester so she was no help. The quizzes are easy b/c you can take it once save the answers then retake it & make 100s. Make sure to answer the discussions entirely for full credit & make time for them b/c they are time consuming. Save all quiz answers & you should be fine on the midterm & final.
Most unhelpful professor I've had so far, she responds to emails very rudely. I usually have a great relationship with my professor but her attitude makes me want to drop the class even after buying the 140 dlls book
The class is very time consuming and requires you to do a lot of essays and tests that are extremely hard. If you do all the work you will make a good grade.
Very limited things to say about Dr. Mitchell because it was an online class. All I can really say is that she is very clear on her policies and criteria throughout the year.
Took this as a online class and it was the easiest class I have ever taken. It is very time consuming, but planning ahead helps. As long as you meet all of the requirements for Discussion posts you'll get A's. Quizzes are easy as long as you read the required chapters. Midterm and Final were pretty hard.
This class is an easy A. I always did my assignments a day or two before they were due and they really aren't that bad. The short answer questions are time consuming, but you only have to do them twice. Also, the quizzes are super easy because after you take it the first time, it gives you the answers so you can retake it and make an easy 100.
This class is extremely time consuming and if you aren't very into politics and government it is a struggle. The discussion posts are not always easy and the graders are typically pretty tough. Short answer assignments are even more time consuming and worth most of you grade. The final and midterm are also difficult. Although quizzes are very easy.
Graduate students grade almost everything and a TA is the main contact. If you must contact Mitchell she is very short, rude, and unwilling to help. She writes in several places in the course "do not contact me until you have contacted a graderTA. The final is painfully hard and unrelated to most of the topicspast tests you will take.
The grader or prof. isn't very clear on what they want out of discussions, but constantly tell you to "be specific". The grader doesn't grade very fairly and takes off points for the anything, even if you meet the criteria. I've done more mind reading trying to understand what she wants instead of actually learning in this course. DON'T take her.
quizzes are easy since you get to take them twice to get a 100. other than that this class sucks. time consuming and the graders of discussion and short answers seem to take points off for anything. your feedback on other peoples post seems like they have to be huge paragraphs and cited in order to get a good credit for them. have to work for an A
2 chances to take a quiz.. quiz for every chapter, easy 100... lot of writing assignments such as short answers and discussion questions(2 for every chapter) you have plenty of time to get the work completed. Easy class, Very well written instructions and syllabus. Pay attention to directions because her graders are tough!!
If it wasn't for the discussion post, I'd have an A. I would routinely meet all the grading criteria and they would still deduct points for god knows what. Sometimes I would get a 50 and other times a 95. I'm also kinda bitter that the school only offers one non-online class for 2302. Tech is just trying to save money by having this class online.
If you can, take this class in person. The online course is a lot of work. You have to read everything in the lessons and in the chapter before you can answer the discussions, and the discussions are often graded very harshly.
I have studied my butt off for the exams and barely passed them each time, and sometimes I would google the answers to make sure, but there are several, especially on the midterm, that are flat out wrong. She is not helpful at all and if there is a problem, she directs you to her TA to get you to drop the class. The most stressful class ever!
Dr. Mitchell, as she likes to be called, isn't necessaily a bad professor. She just isn't really interested in doing much than presenting information. I'm currently taking international politics with her, T & TH. One class is a lecture which is more like an opinion section not for political science students about politics not really a lesson.
Professor Mitchell's class was relatively easy as long as you came to class and took good notes. Her tests were relatively easy and her lectures were interesting. I would recommend her for an easy A (with a little work) as well as for an interesting class. One of the easiest polisci classes you can take. I got an A without buying the textbook
It all depends on your grader. I worked hard and barely got an A. Had do go to Dr. Mitchell and beg and found out everyone with my grader got a 2 point curve. My friend had a different grader and barely didn't even answer parts of the discussion and easily got an A. A lot of stress if you have a hard grader.
She is very clear that she won't accept late work and what she wants to see in every assignment, don't expect her to grade writing assignments easily. Even though it takes effort I really liked it because of how clear and structured it is. She makes you buy a very expensive online book. If you're outside the US, get VPN for the book.
Took Dr. Mitchell for Intro to Political analysis, probably the most dreaded course for any undergrad seeking a POLS degree. The material is my favorite, regrading the math, but somehow I loved going to this class. Dr. Mitchell makes the course fun using many examples and discussions. Not the best professor, but defiantly best TEACHER.
She is awful, I sent her an email concerning the class (the information was not in the syllabus) at the beginning of the year and she never emailed me back. I also wrote a makeup essay and she didn't even read it, she told me it was inadequate and wouldn't be considered for grading. She is too strict, especially for an online 1300 class.
Dr. Mitchell is a tough teach but you will learn so much in this class. I am not a POLS major and still was able to get an A, especially with her make up test at the end of the semester. Be read on tests to have random bonus questions, like how many children she has. All in all a great class, and she is very easy to look a for a hour and a half.
Very hard grader on discussions and short answers. Quizes are easy
not helpful when I was in her office hours and irrational grading on writings
One of the hardest classes to get good grades in because the short answers and discussions are graded so harshly. Quizzes are so easy though. Takes forever to get your grades back on discussions and short answers. Rude, please take another professor.
Quizzes are easy, but once you get to short answers and discussions, you've better of read the chapters front to back, listened to lectures four times and watched every video presented over and over again to MAYBE get an 80 on the assignment. Hardest grader without having any clarification on what she actually wants from you. DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS
The quizzes are easy and the discussions posts and short answers aren't super terrible if you follow the directions to a T, but they are time consuming and the graders are ridiculously hard. There is only two tests but they are hard and you won't be able to find anything in google so make sure you study everything
Very tough grader, doesn't give much assistance, and doesn't give extra credit opportunities or accept late work.
Awful, just awful. She has to be the rudest teacher i have had at tech so far. I emailed her concerning an issue with blackboard saying i hadn't taken the home page quiz, when i actually had week one of class. She blamed it all on me and requires us to write a 2 page paper on "Why following directions is important in college and in life." to pass
I took the online class and did not have a good experience. Discussion posts and short answer assignments are graded too harshly, I never got an A in any of them. I went in to Mitchell's office hours to ask for advise on final exam. She was rude and just told me to read all the assigned readings(she assigns an excessive ridiculous amount of reading
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. If you HAVE to take it at Tech, try your hardest to get someone other than this "professor." She was so horrific and condescending I don't even want to say her name. The grader was irrational, vague, and inconsistent. Took nearly a month to get each grade and impossible to satisfy. Horrible team and class. Learned nothing.
I did not like this class what so ever. The graders are tough and don't give good feedback.
The grader is awful. I would get a B or C on the group discussions and the only feedback I got was "Be more specific". I never dealt with Dr. Mitchell in person so I can't really say anything about her. With that being said, it's an online class, so you may not get any personal help from her. The reading assignments are beyond ridiculous, too.
I took Dr. Mitchell's POLS 2302 online last semester and was very dissatisfied with my experience with her. Quizzes and things of that nature were easy hundreds, but any writing sample (short answers, etc.) I sent her were torn apart and she offered no constructive criticism. Very unhelpful feedback. I was very disappointed with this class.
Dr. Mitchell expects her students to have the drive to do the work, as specified, to a college standard. There aren't any surprises. If you do the reading, do the quizzes, cite sources in your papers, while you participate you will pass the class.
Disappointing that this class is MANDATORY for many students, yet only is allowed online. Mitchell is extremely inflexible to work with. Most of the exercises she has you do have nothing to do with the final and midterm (which is what makes up most of your grade.) Don't will understand the reason this class is mandatory with an impossible professor
By far one of the hardest classes I've ever taken. Citation instructions were not clear as Dr. Mitchell and my TA had two different expectations(Mitchell wanted Chicago style citations while my TA didn't care). It also took my TA weeks to grade assignments, and honestly the grades seemed arbitrary. Take this class at a community college if you can.
She deserves the rating she is given. Don't try to ask her for help because all she will tell you is "its online" or "it's in your book" but she is no help to actually answering questions that you have. She should be allowed to take credit as "Dr." Mitchell.
She is by far one of the worst instructors I have had. Does not give clear criteria for assignments or a rubric for anything. YET expects students to read minds and understand unclear and vague instructions. Contacting the instructors and graders is ultimately pointless, because they are very unreasonable.
Terrible instructor who creates terrible graders. There is no rubric provided for assignments and instructions are minimalistic. When I emailed the grader and instructor to get further clarification on why I received certain grades I was told "look at the instructions next time" and "Courses are not required to have rubrics'". Doesn't solve issues.
One of the most useless classes I have ever taken in my college career. You spend your time on this class figuring out what the grader wants in order to get above a B on the discussions and short answers, not actually learning anything. Grader will count you off for anything they can find. Mitchell is anything but helpful. An absolute nightmare.
While all of these ratings are correct in reference to the course having tough graders, it is very easy to make a B in the class. Just be sure to use plenty of citations in your responses. DO NOT rely on quizlet to help you with the tests because the answers are not on there (I checked). Made a B+ in both of her online classes with minimal effort.
Make sure you set aside plenty of time! Dr. Mitchell will treat this like it is the only class you are taking. Included but not limited to dumb games/simulations and videos of her because she likes to hear herself talk. Emailed her for clarity on an assignment and got a rude reply. Very disappointed and overall annoyed with her and this class.
Hardest Online Class ever. Quizzes and Tests are the only thing you will make an A, but Discussions and Short answers are graded very very tough. Discussions are graded harder than my bio Lab reports. I would recommend do not take her. If you take online classes get another professor i am pretty sure tech offers another professor for POLS2302 onlin
Terrible professor. Doesn't respond promptly and when she does she's terribly rude. I guess she couldn't make it to law school so acts like a tyrant to her students. Tough Grader and the grader isn't clear at all. Also there is no rubric for anything so they take off as much as they please for trivial errors.
Do NOT take this prof unless you don't mind being treated like and idiot. It'd be one thing if you actually learned a thing or two about gov, but you don't. Exams consist of completely random and super specific questions, graders are super inconsistent and give no feedback, and she was very rude when I spoke with her.
HORRIBLE professor. Don't know how she even has her job. The short answers and discussions are graded unbelievably harshly and the feedback is never useful. The grader will give you an 80 and will say things like "be comprehensive" as feedback. I emailed the grader and asked how I could improve, did everything he said, and STILL got bad grades.
Dr. Mitchell's POLS 1301 and 2302 online classes are not too bad. Shes assigns weekly assignments and two major exams; a midterm and a final. Her discussions can take some work, and really depend on the grader. Her final and midterm are like nothing you'll see before so have the book handy. Keep up with the work and you should be fine.
This is by far the worst professor I've had at Tech. She is rude and grades unbelievably harsh on the short answer and discussions. The only way I'm managing this class is solely off of the weekly quizzes. Also, the midterm questions don't match up with good/internet and the grading feedback is vague and unfair. Save you time and more at a CC.
I hated this class. She has specific expectations and if you deviate from them even the tiniest bit, you fail. She talks down to anyone who dares to ask a question, and the feedback on assignments is vague.
Worst class ever. Graders are extremely unreasonable. I would ask you to pray for a good grader but sadly you won't get one. Other ratings listed are 100% accurate.
By far the worst professor I've had at Tech. "Tough grader" is an understatement, it's as if she expects doctoral level papers at the undergrad level. Make sure you cite EVERYTHING, I received a zero on a short answer assignment for not citing everything. Expect to earn a B or a C in this class if you do all the work, A's are non-existent.
I hated this class and Professor Mitchell isn't the best professor either. Very boring and feel sorry for anyone that has to take this class.
Maybe the blame shouldn't go to the prof so much as the graders who hate when students make As. Every discussion you do will be returned with the comment, "Explain more." No matter what. I wrote a 4000 word essay for a discussion with a suggested word count of 250, not including 7 MLA citated sources. I got a 90 with the comment "Explain more." Ugh
I had Game Theory with Dr. Mitchell. It was my favorite class I have taken at Tech thus far. She is enthusiastic and really brings the class to life. Attendance is not mandatory BUT the tests are over her lectures so its in your favor to attend class. If you have an A average at the end of the semester you don't have to take the final.
To start off, she is extremely rude and unhelpful in her emails. Also, the graders for the written assignments are outrageous. They hate giving out A's and are not clear in their expectations or how to improve. It's a joke that this class is a required course as they do everything they possibly can to prevent you from making an A. Good luck.
POLS 1301 is super super easy and I would recommend taking it but not because of this professor. I don't feel like she has any idea what she is talking about ever. The assignments are really easy but when it comes to discussions and short answers, I feel like the graders go out of their way to fail you. This could bring someone down a whole letter.
I have learned absolutely nothing. This class is more of a chore than a class. Just expect a quiz and discussion board or short answer once a week and nothing more. Also learn how to cite the way the TAs want you to or its automatic ten points off. I haven't broken the code to citing correctly so hopefully you can.
You will spend the entire semester trying to figure out what the grader wants. The instructor is less than helpful and gets irritated easily even when asking genuine questions. The course is pretty easy to follow.
The majority of the class is trying to figure out what the graders are looking for. There is no learning in this class. The graders are inconsistent. I tried emailing the grader to ask why points were taken off. The grader did not have a response and changed the subject. Worst experience. Should be an easy A but the graders make that difficult.
Don't take this class if you want a professor that actually cares about your success as a student. You wont make an A in this class. You will receive ridiculously low grades for your short answers and discussion posts with little to no explanation as to why you got such a low grade. Dr. Mitchell is rude and uncaring. NO GO ON THIS CLASS
So I'm not trying to just bash the teacher, but this class should not be this hard. They grade way too hard and then give you no reason why you did so poorly. Do not respect the student at all. Plus the midterm and final come from nothing we "learned" during the semester. TAKE THIS CLASS SOMEWHERE ELSE!!!!
stupid class
"If you email me and ask me to raise your grade it may result in your grade being lowered" lol ok
There is no rubric for the arbitrary grading so get ready to have no idea why you received the scores you did.
She has ridiculously high expectations of students and if you try to email her about your grade, she'll say that you deserved what you got and won't help you. The grading criteria is unclear, and I doubt she cares if everyone fails. Never made above a 90 on a writing assignment even though the only critique I got was "good". Don't take this class.
Dr. Mitchell's online lectures were somewhat clear. However, the grader ruins your life.
Took one of her online classes last semester and due to scheduling issues had to take another this semester. Both classes were ridiculous. I learned nothing and no matter how much effort I put into the discussions/short answers, the graders never gave me higher than a 91. No reasons were given for those grades. Worst graders and class ever.
This class is a complete waste of time, and the discussion posts are graded so harshly with vague comments. The midterm is also very difficult, and the final is for some reason extremely easy. So in the end, you're scrambling trying to make a huge comeback from the horrible midterm grade. This class shouldn't be required. Good luck to you all.
I absolutely could not stand this class. No matter the amount of time and effort you put into the homework, you will still get a horrible grade. They are constantly cancelling office hours and are not really there to help you. I recommend to anyone to see if your local community college or somewhere has this class for credit and take it there.
i thought the class was easy. each week there is some sort of graded assignment due, either a quiz, discussion, or short answer. She grades the short answers very easy and i think this class is an easy A. only a final and a midterm.
Sha almost failed be because of a quiz that was un related to the course material, avoid taking this teacher.
This class wasn't too difficult when it came to some of the homework. The most annoying part of the class was that no matter how well you did on the discussions or short answers, you could never get an A. I recommend you take this class at a CC instead of taking it here.
Homework quizzes are easy, but writing assignments are graded much too harshly. I am an honors student and made only one A on writing assignments in this class. Tests dont quite match up to the homework like I expected. If you are a strong student or in honors, then you should be alright. Otherwise, I strongly suggest you take this course elsewhere
Quizzes were easy, discussion questions were easy if you took the time to do them.
THE WORST!!! You probably won't get an A unless you ace both exams and get 100s on every quiz. Give yourself plenty of time to do discussions/short answer and be specific and you MIGHT get a B on them. You also won't get good feedback on what you did wrong and you'll spend all semester trying to figure out what the grader is looking for. Also rude.
So many students complain about this class, however if you apply yourself (like you should at a college level) then you will succeed. I received around 96%-100% on all my discussions. SO therefore, the graders do give out A's but you have to earn them! Just follow the guidelines, answer ALL parts of the discussion , and CITE your sources correctly.
i got an A but that doesn't excuse what a horrible experience this was all-around. look at all the negative reviews and be the judge. yikes.
Honestly, it's Poli-Sci. As an engineering major I took her online and its wasn't bad at all. Literally every test question is on study blue or quizlet. The quizzes can be taken in a matter of minutes. Missed 2 whole weeks of assignments and still got a B. The short answers are graded hard but just follow the guideline and your fine.
All of the assignments and quizzes are super easy. However, the discussions and short answers are graded very tough so make sure to be detailed and always use sources!
Professor Mitchell wasn't really a teacher in this course because it is online. The course is not bad at all, though. Just make sure to do all assignments on time. Short answers and discussions are graded toughly- don't expect to be able to do them in an hour or two. Spend quality time on them and it's an easy A
There are several online homework assignments. Pay attention to the material and they are easy 100s. The discussion and short answer grades are dependent on the grader, but if you answer the questions and meet the word count, you can get high grades. The midterm and final are fairly difficult and heavily based off the reading.
If you just follow every instruction exactly as worded and if you are a good writer, you will get an A. You really do not need the book, just use Google. However, the assigned work is tedious, long, and boring, and TAs grade everything. She is very condescending over email and on the syllabus, luckily I never had to meet her. The tests are random.
I took POLS1301 and got an A. I'm taking this online course and have an A. But the problem is the class format. I would never recommend "political science" from TTU. It's more like an economics/finance/applied policy course. If you're looking for a FAIR political science class go to your community college or find a better university for poli-sci.
why is this the easiest class ever.... literally do your assignments on time and discussions/short answers correctly and you're fine. total quizzes counted for like 56% of final grade which are easy. literally so easy whoever says it's hard doesn't wanna put in the effort.
Graders are tough and unhelpful. One of my short answer assignments didn't even have feedback, so there was no way of knowing how to improve. Had an inquiry on a quiz question, but was too afraid to ask based on other's experiences with her. Extra credit is offered but I wouldn't take my chances based on the way other writing assignments are graded
She creates her exams with the automatic assumption that you're already cheating, which means the questions have nothing to do with gaging how well you've learned the material, but how quick you can google it. Don't bother visiting her during office hours. Other than that, quizzes and short answers are easy A, over all this class is an easy B.
Didn't learn anything. There are unrealistic expectations for assignments and reading in this class. Dr. Mitchell seems to only be interested in seeing if you can follow directions. That is all your grade is based on. If you actually want to learn something, I encourage you to take this class elsewhere and let the credit transfer in.
Google will be your teacher if you take with her. I mean I didn't have to meet her in person because there wasn't the necessity. Just do all your quizzes (google them) follow the guides on short answers and discussions and you'll be fine. IF you just want to pass because this a core course take with her. But if you want to learn don't take with her
do your work and you will pass. If you slack you will fail.
Honestly, GOOD LUCK. In my opinion, even her syllabus sounds rude. Very tough grader when it comes to essays and short answer questions.
This class is surmised easily... The homework you are assigned is simplistic enough in that you watch a video, take notes, then take a quiz over it. Easy right? A rock could do that. HOWEVER, the midterm and final seem to be ALMOST irrelevant to said homework entirely. Be prepared to do homework and study things not mentioned in homework. Godspeed.
She asks for too much, it's pretty ridiculous. The discussions are outrageous, they ask for so much more than any english class I've ever taken. If you have to take it, good luck, it's a rough course, for sure.
worst class ever the tests have nothing to do with what you learn and the graders are try hards that grade way too hard. this class sucks
The course isn't overly hard, just frustrating. The homework is super easy but the tests have nothing to do with any of it. It takes forever to get grades back on discussions. If you're looking to actually understand and learn, I'd take this somewhere else.
Quizzes are easy and great way to keep grade good. Graders can be a little (AKA A LOT) picky with writing assignments.
Didn't care about provoking individual thought or that you learned the material. She just wanted you to write in the discussion what she wanted to hear.
Dr Mitchell was very rude and condescending and was not helpful at all. If you ask a a question about grading or ask for feedback she becomes extremely rude and offers no helpful feedback. Avoid Dr Mitchell at all costs. Rudest and most condescending person I've met at Texas Tech.
Doesn't round up any grades and will not work with you for extra credit.
Her online classes are pretty easy just beware of the harsh grading.
You need to read the entire textbook and watch all the videos and ask questions if you have them because since it is online, there is not much wiggle room for missing an assignment, as well as not much help remembering that they are due on Tuesdays at 5:30 pm. All I can say is don't make excuses and get your work done.
Beware: she grades written assignments in an incredibly arbitrary manner. If the grader disagrees with your opinion or if you ever ask for feedback, they will dock your grades merely out of spite. Horrible teacher, very bitter. DO NOT TAKE HER ONLINE CLASS.
Rude and no chance to makeup anything really
Worst teacher I have ever had, she does not care about you learning anything as long as you answer the way she wants you too. Avoid this class.
This professor gets an F. She does not care about any of her students or what her students need and want. If you take the course, get ready to read the entire book just to be able to get a B. No study guides for midterm or final. No clear way to study for anything. Google doesn't help either. good Luck passing if you suck at online classes.
Take this from someone who got an A: The grading of discussion posts and short answers is more strict than any English class I've ever been in. Two-word feedback is the norm. One time I went to her office hours to discuss a grade and she was extremely rude, condescending, and dismissive. Don't go to her office hours because she won't help you.
Do yourself a favor and do not take this course. The tests are not only difficult, they have no relevance to anything taught through the online lectures. You are simply left with a text book to take 2 test over and the rest is elementary.
A lot of people are saying not to take this course, DON'T LISTEN TO THEM. Online, it wasn't bad at all. Homework every week that you have to stay on top of, but it's not a lot and incredibly easy. You can google test answers. Used the online textbook for quizzes and tests. Made an A. It's not a blow off class, but fine if you stay organized.
As Ann online class, this was honestly terrible. At least 2 assignments due at the middle of the week at such a random time. When she asks you for opinions to questions and give some pretty solid ones, she tells you they're not necessary & gives a bad grade for speaking your mind. TOUGH GRADER & VERY TECHNICAL!!! Don't take it if you don't have to.
Simple online course, weekly quizzes are easy grades but also makes sure you understand the content.
This class was an easy A. The weekly quizzes are super easy. The short answer and discussion posts however, are graded harshly, so make sure you put quality time on them and make sure you follow the criteria (sources, word count, etc.) The midterm and final are tough & heavily based off readings, but she offers extra credit so take advantage of it.
If you need to take this class, start reading the chapters as soon as you get the book, you have nearly a month before a single assignment is due. The quizzes are very easy, listen to the lectures, get a 100 on them. Read ahead on what assignments will be, you will need to write short answers and discussion posts, be impartial on your answers.
This class is good for people who can teach themselves the material. She is unwilling to help with anything you need and grades harshly. There are several written assignments and the final exam is very difficult.
fun, good teacher with great sense of humor. makes learning material fun
not understanding her logic. I am taking her online class and I am doing exactly what prompts say and I answer questions fully. some papers I get A's and some I get D's. she is not consistent.
home work is easy, but she's a hard grader when it comes to any written assignments.
WORSE PROFESSOR EVER AND ONLINE CLASS TO EVER TAKE
Dr. Mitchell is not helpful and is an incredibly tough grader on discussion posts, which count for a relatively big portion of your grade. The other assignments and quizzes are easy but discussion boards can really hurt you.
If you can get around having to take her class, please do! She's super inconstant on her grading and the class didn't actually teach me anything. Probably the worst professor I have had at Tech and its not even in person! She doesn't care about her students at all and she's not easily accessible. AVOID HER!
Dont take this class at Tech. Shes an inconsistent grader and doesnt care about her students at all. Worst professor I have EVER had.
Rudest teacher I've had to talk to. Doesn't care about the situation if there's a problem with the course.
avoid her at all costs.
Quizzes each week are super easy. Midterm and final are very difficult. All written assignments graded incredibly harshly. Doesn't care about her students at all. DO NOT TAKE HER.
She has the most unclear grading criteria and will count off on your short answers for things that were not in her instructions, syllabus, or rubric. I learned absolutely nothing from this class and it was a waste of money. The short answers are pointless and the homework was just busy work.
The rudest professor I've encountered at this institution, and that's saying something. Doesn't bother to give any kind of study guide for the final, instead she wipes her hands clean by saying to read the book (ok). She is a pathetic excuse for a teacher.
Rudest Teacher I have ever had. Doesn't even try to help students
Warning for anyone possible taking her online POLS classes: BEWARE OF HOW YOU WRITE YOUR PAPERS. When I took her first sem online POLS class, I had a liberal grader, he gave me near perfect grades for everything. This sem, I got a 40 on one paper because the grader was conservative. Mitchell even told me I was correct but wouldn't change my grade.
This class is really not as hard as people make it out to be. you can finish the whole class in about a week. And as long as you make 100s on the quizzes( super easy by the way) you can do bad on the test/discussions/short answers. The test you can google, short answers and discussions just put lots of quotes and you will get an 80 at least.
POLS are required for a degree here at tech, so you have to take the class. Fairly easy class with many multiple choice quizzes.
If you ask a question, you're going to get some of the rudest answers ever. You're better off figuring things out yourself than dealing with her attitude. But for the class, it's not that bad, just do amazing on the quizzes and tests, and then you don't have to worry about the inconsistent discussion post grades.
I took both 1301 and 2302. The hardest part about Dr. Mitchell's class was understanding how to appeal to the graders. The quizzes are quite easy, but the discussions and short answers are a whole other animal in themselves. My advice if you want the A: write A LOT with A LOT of details and quotes for every open-ended question or response.
Just awful.
Before everyone says she's so rude think about it people she has like 1000 students. So you forgot to do your assignment and she wont let you do it again is that her problem? She has a rubric. It's hard yeah, but if you actually try you will maybe actually (gasp) learn something instead of just pass for reason. Isn't that why we're here?
She's a great professor. Her rubric is clearly defined, his isn't high school. You're adults and you should be expected to be treated like adults, this is why people can't handle her class. Everyone expects so much leniency in college, but that's not how the real world works.
awful class
Only professor at TTU that I've heard the "Student Affairs" office say, "Oh, her? Yea, we get at least one student per semester file a formal complaint." Her "no late policy" apparently doesn't take into account the real world. One of her students was in a car accident, with a hospital stay due to a head injury. Wouldn't let them make up a test.
If you're a TTU student I strongly recommend that you DO NOT TAKE her class. She does not reason well with students, is very late to grading work( turned in assignments in September they weren't graded until the last 4 days before the semester ended). Hardly ever in her office when you need her, overall gave grades that weren't truly accurate.
I took her class before & got an A+ on a crappy paper of mine while the 2 time I take her class, she gives really low grades. It's almost like she doesn't read them, and will count off if she doesn't like a little thing. She hardly gave us any learning material & expects us to write on the subject we were hardly taught on.
Professor Mitchell's previous evaluations appear to have inspired her to empirically prove that she faces academic discrimination as a woman, but in the process has demonstrated her lack of ability to think critically or objectively, seemingly validating the poor reviews that inspired her in the first place.
She will not respond to your emails no matter what they're about so assume that you will have no feedback from her the entire semester if you take an online class with her. Also, she reuses her syllabi from other classes without editing due dates or requirements so she constantly sends out corrections. This class was a waste of time.
This was my favorite class at Tech to date. Dr. Mitchell did an outstanding job at tying real-world international relations into pop culture and science fiction. I think most of the negative reviews on here stem from the heavy work load compared to other POLS courses. If you do the work and put effort into your writing, this course will be fun!
Missed exam due to medical emergency. She did not let me make up the exam and forced me to drop.
I missed an exam due to being hit by a bus and hospitalized. Even with documentation, she refused to let me make up the exam and forced me to drop.
Avoid this class if you can. The professor is unresponsive and inflexible, with poor grading practices. However, using resources like unstuck ai can help you prepare and make the most of a challenging course.
Dr Mitchell is the definition of a chill professor. While attendance is absolutely mandatory, you're rewarded by getting a 100 on exams if you miss one class per test. Lectures are simple and are used to guide you through the research paper at the end of the semester. Classes usually end when shes done talking which isnt very long. Highly recommend
