She is a good teacher overall, but the material is dry, the only reason im taking this class is cus its mandatory for my major. Very easy to get lost online, while she is talking. The tests come directly from the homework. Overall its an easy class, just dont procrastinate like me. Thats the only reason I got a C.
Very good instructor. She designs the powerpoint slides very nicely to make every single bit of the lecture crystal clear. Very very helpful and she is always in a good mood. She's a very sincere teacher who really cares about her students. Whenever I emailed her, she happily replied back with solutions to all my problems. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!
I took csis 112, intro Java, before I took this course, and I was totally lost in that class because of the teacher. However, this teacher is the life saver for people like me. I could understand and do the hmwk problems even though I had no programming knowledge, and she knows the stuff. Highly recommended
she's an amazing professor. very organized and clear. gives examples on how to solve problems during the lecture which makes the hw more understandable. always tells u wat u need to know for the tests, but u need to put effort because it's a lot of material to study. totally recommended!
Went out of her way to help and answer emails.
AWESOME TEACHER. explains everything so well and the lecture notes are so detailed you don't need to buy the book. helps you whenever you need it. even if you're bad at programming, you still have a good shot at an A. im taking her for CSIS 135 :)
WOW! That's all I can say about this teacher! She is really helpful and her slides were all I needed to pass this class! Best CSIS Teacher I've ever taken since it's hard to find young teachers with patience and understading towards the ones that weren't born to be programmers! Extremely nice person and clearly explains how test are to be ready!
She is a kind and smart person. She is very thorough and precise. All her students need is to pay close attention and ask her whatever is not clear. She's very helpful and patient.
She is very helpful, very intelligent, and also pretty:). I can say one of the best at GCC. If you guys wanna lear java or c++ you must take her... I enjoy her class..
I took CS/IS 112 with her and the writing test were easy. But in C++ the writing test was kind of tricky. It's much easier to do the programming part than to figure out the conceptual questions. She might allow you to take this class without taking the 112, but it's gone be very fast class and if you don't have programming background, sorry for you
Great teacher! If you dont have any programming background take her. Her lectures are awsome, as long as you pay attention in class you dont need to read the book or anything. I highly recommend her.
she is a great teacher, she respond to her e-mail quickly and for that she is very helpful. to take C++ you have to have programming background because she goes with you as you already knows the material
She was a good professor. She "talks in circles" a bit in her lectures and lecture slides, but overall she's still easy to understand. The class is very easy, but you still learn a lot. She's very helpful with making all the lecture materials and examples available.
I highly recommend this professor. The best teacher I have ever had in my life. she is so helpul, respond to emails very quickly and care for students. She gives lots of extra credit choices, even if you don't study for the exams, as long as you pay attention in the class, you will get an A+ on all of them.
Perfect teacher! I'm gonna take CS/IS 135 in Spring with her! Just remember attend class and especially labs so that you get points. Do your homework assignments, Study the lecture slides, and make a note sheet for Mid&Final exams!
She is an extraordinary instructore. Lecture slides are perfect and she has put lots of effort in them so keep the slides even after the class. There are lots of example programs for each concept and she is very helpful. Responds to emails in a tourough manner and very nice human being.
Very detailed and clear - has slides that are better than the book. I rated the slides for the textbook part. The school has some really obnoxious students that tried to ruin the class but it was still good. Good teacher.
Great teacher! Very nice and helpful. I learn lessons at the class while she lectures. I do not need even to open the book again at home. She explains everything very detail. Nothing is missed, nothing is left. I highly recommend to take Advanced Income Taxation with her.
Excellent teacher! One of the best at GCC.Very helpful. She practically creates a new slide-book which is very detailed & there is no need even to get the book.If you listen in class you'll get the concepts 100%. You won?t regret taking any classes with her. She perfects whatever she teaches.
One of the best professors in GCC. Very helpful. She's such a sweetheart. Her lectures are clear as crystal. A great class for programming beginners.
Great teacher. The class atmosphere was relaxed for the most part. She made the subject easy to understand by bringing in examples that were not straight out of the textbook. Plenty of opportunities to do well in this class just study for the tests since they are worth the most.
You have only yourself to blame if you don't get an A in this class. Show up to class, listen, put in effort and you will get the grade u deserve. She goes out of her way to help students. Take her for sure if you can.
if you dont get an A 1. you werent in class 2. your stupid
She is a great professor! She is very patient and helpful. She goes out of her way to help you and answer questions. Definitely take her!
Great teacher. If your interested in Game Design enroll in her 3D Game Programming class. It needs students!
VERY helpful. All lecture slides are posted with complete notes. She does everything she can to make you succeed in class. Do you homework, study for the tests, and pay attention and you will pass this class. I aced the class in the summer while working full time, but had to spend most of my weekends studying and doing the HW.
If you have no programming backgrounds, this class will help you a lot. Not only her lectures are clear as crystal, but she tries to teach with her own words, not copying from the textbook. No textbook needed. I thought her slides were useful and better than stupid textbook. Take her :)
I took C++ from her. Excellent lectures. She has Powerpoint files, which she projects overhead. Sometimes you see her revising them. She distributes them so you don't have to take many notes. All her example programs work. Good at helping people find where they have mistakes in their programs. Grading is very fair but a little slow.
Good teacher, fairly easy class if you're computer literate. Just pay attention and do the homework and you'll do fine. My only criticism is that it can take 3 weeks or more to get exam grades posted. Not a deal breaker, but certainly disappointing if you want to get an idea of how you are doing in the class.
Good teacher. Cares about her students. Will do anything to help.
She is a very good teacher. She is helpful and she explains things really well. You can e-mail her and she will respond to you as fast as anybody should. I wouldn't recommend the summer CSIS 112 if you have no experience in programming because it is a whole new language to learn. Do it during the long semesters.
If you don't have the prerequisite it is a harder class but if you have it it is a fairly easy class and you learn a lot.
A decent professor; nothing unexpected. She tells you exactly what you need to know, and provides notes in her own words for the course's textbook (which you don't need to buy!). If you take the time to complete and understand every assignment you will get an A... just make sure to know your vocabulary! Oh, and her tests are open notes! ;)
Shroyer is an amazing programming professor. She creates her own lecture notes + examples based on the book and it gives you everything you need for programming. This class requires a lot of dedicated time like math/science. If you take the time to study, you will do good. Taking the pre-req. is highly recommended unless you have a good background.
Shroyer is one of the best professors I every had!! I had her for both Java and C++ and will be taking her for CSIS 137. She is a fair grader and you must do the homework to pass the tests. If you do your Homeworks and attend class than there is no way you can fail the class!!
Really nice prof. you don't need the textbook. Just read the slides before lectures and you know everything you need.
Confusing slides. Tests were very difficult.
her tests are very difficult.
its a long and boring class .all her presentation is on PowerPoint.she doesn't want you use eclipse her test are hard
One of the most caring professors I've ever had. Tests were a bit difficult but not if you study and actually show up to class. But you have to go otherwise I can see how it would be hard.
She will tell you what you need on the test very clearly. The class wasn't hard, you must however have time and commitment like any other class. One thing she would always say is that her class "is not a math class." I believe programming is very much a language and like any other language you must use it and that is what her class intro you too.
Professor Shroyer is such an intelligent and wise woman. She teaches material well and cares about her students no matter the circumstances. I took her for summer, was a complicated time for her but she did all her best and truly cared about her students. In the end I left her class wanting to tell her what I'm saying now. Definitely take her!
Took 112 with professor shroyer and she is very clear with her lectures. She makes understanding code very simple and all that needs to be done is practicing at home. Allows a cheat sheet for objective tests and ANY notes even her ppt slides for programming tests. Plus she gives extra credit and curves. Don't be a suck up,
I have a programming background, so my feedback is "curved" if you know what I mean. Great Teacher! Doesn't require you to buy any books. Lectures are clear. She created slides (other GCC teachers even use these) and as long as you read the slides and pay attention in class- YOU SHALL PASS! Tests aren't hard at all, as long as you've paid attention
All you have to do to learn the material and pass with an A, is, pay attention to the lecture and do all the homework. This professor allows a cheat sheet for the paper exams and lets you bring your own flash drive of notes for the programming tests. Very hard to get less than a 90% in the class.
She was the first professor teaching me coding. I LOVE her. This woman's lecture slides has to be laminated and hanged from your wall! The way she puts it all together is so simple! Great teacher for beginners. You'll have a strong foundation! TAKE HER!
Shroyer is really a fantastic teacher, she is really knowledgeable and moves extremely fast which can be detrimental if nobody in your class stops to ask questions (you'll quickly find yourself confused if you're still new to coding) I'd definitely recommend her but try to avoid the 3 hour class, it can be hard to absorb 3 hours of programming.
She is a very smart woman and knows her stuff really well, she speaks very fast and takes very few breaks leaving tons of kids behind (probably their fault more than hers) tests are brutal 80% of class failed and had to curve to bring average to a D, homework is incredibly difficult and long. Take this class if you are interested in a coding career
Pay attention to lectures, read her lecture notes, do her homework, and pass with an A. Grades are based on her exams. Understand how to do the homework an get A's on programming exams. Written tests are more difficult, gives lots of hints on what will be on the exam so pay attention. Email her if you get stuck on the homework and she will help!
I love her! She's so chill and nice and realistic. Made me love programming and her class was the first CS class that I took. I'm going to take more of her classes because I think her classes will give you a good foundation for programming. Practice is key to success! :)
Not bad. I took Kristina for CSIS 112 in Fall 2015. She explains pretty well. Her tests are based exactly on what she lectures using her powerpoint in class so if you study well, you are guaranteed to get a good grade. I bought the book and anyways, her powerpoint are based on the book, so the book was unnecessary anyways.
Professor Shroyer is a highly professional and amazing instructor. She provides students with detailed notes, & she is always willing to assist her students. She is very approachable, friendly, & it is clear that she is truly passionate about coding. She was my favorite professor at GCC. Needless to say, I recommend her if you are into coding!
My first time programming. Difficult class. Due to some events that happened tests were not graded on time. Would have failed if it wasn't for curve. Good professor, tough long class. Definitely not impossible but very difficult if first time. Give it your all if you want a good grade.
Took her over the Winter course. Textbook isn't necessary since her lecture slides are VERY detailed. She's very thorough in her lectures and alludes to CS majors with tidbits about "the real world". Written tests are a little tough but cheat sheet allowed. Programming tests are easy as long as you do her HW. Lowest test dropped. Great professor!
Best computer science professor at this school. Does a good job explaining and her slides are very helpful probably better than the book. Test are hard, but she is understanding and offers a curve.
A good teacher. I learned in the class and enjoyed it. She makes her own slides/notes so you don't have to buy the book. If you do the homework and listen in class you can get an A easily. That's what I did.
Professor Shroyer is amazing! I took her for CSIS 112, and CSIS 135 and I loved her class. She gives 3 midterms, and drops one of the midterms you did worst on, and gives a final. Homework's can be difficult but they do well to prepare you for the exams. Definitely recommend for all levels of computer science.
Best computer science professor at GCC. If you don't take it with her then don't take it at all
Her lectures and expectations are clear, and you actually learn a lot of useful things by the end of class. I had a very good experience. She is a lovely person, too. Might take a long while on grading, but you sort of know how you did on the tests right away. 100% would take again. She made Computer Science exciting for me.
Professor Shroyer makes everyone want to be a Computer Science major. Her lectures make programming look easy and she has clear grading criteria. Make sure to pay attention in class, do homework and ask questions if you have any difficulties so you will have no problem acing the class.
She makes the class very easy to learn with her slides. As long as you read the slides and listen to her "hints" in class you will be good to go. You don't need a background in CS or CSIS101 to take this class, since it covers the basics.
Took this class with no programming background. It was over the summer and it was a LOT of material at once. It felt overwhelming and I would recommend taking it in long semester. Nonetheless, she is a intelligent and helpful instructor. She does examples in class and the tests are similar to homework. I will take her again for other CS classes.
Good class - I actually feel like I can program C++, much different than I felt after I got out of the CSIS 112 class that I took with another instructor (I took it for the easy A and I regretted it). I had to work a little harder but I did get it and the A.
I found this class easier to handle than 112. For the first six chapters, it's the same as in Java. It's just typed and formatted a different way. There are new concepts as well, but they were to a basic level. The homework does get challenging but I'm thankful for it because it prepares you for the exams. Excellent computer science professor.
She is the most caring, professional, and fantastic teacher. She uses the best and most useful techniques. She gives very beautiful lectures.
Challenging concepts, practice the material as you learn it. 3 exams, lowest dropped. You get 2 projects. Each worth 25% of your grade. One is a group project that she has the directions for. The other is the final project that you do alone and get to pick yourself. Lots of discussions online. Shes an EXTREMELY slow grader but heavily curves.
Learned a lot from her lectures. Very forgiving grader, curves the exams, homework is fun, programming projects give you a lot of great practice, and great lectures. Overall, this was one of my favorite classes. Online discussions are really the only downside to this class.
Arguably the best CS professor in the school. She uses powerpoint slides that she made herself, which are packed with resources and details. Her lectures are clear, and she likes to mention good programming tips and how the industry works from time to time as well. A bit slow on grading, but curves very very heavily. Definitely would recommend.
Prof. Shroyer is the nicest and most caring professor at GCC. I definitely recommend her.
One of the best CSIS professors at GCC. You are a lucky-chosen one if you get the chance to take one of her courses. A true legend! 10/10 recommend.
One thing I want to say it that she is my favorite CS/IS professor. Her lectures were super great. They are detailed and easily to understand. It is important to attend or not skip her class because you will fall behind. It will hard to catch up. Just TAKE HER and YOU WON'T REGRET IT.
Amazing professor if your major is computer science. She has very detailed slides for each chapter, homework that helps prepare you for exams! I definitely recommend her
I've taken CS/IS 112, 135, and 137 with Shroyer, and honestly you can't go wrong with her. As I prep for 211, I know I'm going into a GPA safe, yet incredibly educational experience. She is a phenomenal teacher, fair grader, and kind/caring person. Just don't get caught with nothing on due dates and you'll be fine! You get what you put in!
I had her for 112 and 135, and now I'm taking her for 137. Here's the thing with Shroyer: you will learn and she will make you a better programmer. She is always willing to help you if you are stuck. Her lectures are heavy, but thats GOOD. I still have some of her slides because they're that helpful!
Easily the best GCC Professor, Possibly the greatest professor on Earth.
If you are a C.S Major or Math major, take her!! She has amazing lectures with extremely detailed slides! She will repeat a topic as many times as needed until you understand it. She teaches good design to prepare you for the real world!
One of the best professors I've ever had! She makes coding so easy and she is so sweet. If you need to take a CS class TAKE HER, you won't regret it. She drops one of your lowest non-coding midterms (you only have two) and for the coding exams, she prepares you very well.
If you want to know your status in the class, grade-wise, don't bother, she doesn't grade ANYTHING till the end of the semester, so good luck knowing what you're grade is or what you're technically doing wrong at all BUT I will say she is a FANTASTIC teacher. Lectures are HEAVY but are really useful. She answers ALL questions.
Do not take her
I've had other CS professors and was left with a bad experience, but with Professor Shroyer, she made me a better a programmer. I'm so glad to take her because she'll help you even if you don't understand the material. Her lectures are useful that I still keep them to look back. I'm taking her 137 class right now. If you can, take her class!
We have about 3 weeks left in the class and still, NOTHING has been graded. How is this even possible? I have 0 idea on what grade I have. Midterms were over a month ago and still nothing. She's a great teacher but this is ridiculous.
This was my first CS class ever and I am glad I got to take Mrs. Shroyer. Very lecture heavy and the book is practically useless. Your midterm and final exams are basically worth 70% of your grade, but they're not too difficult if you pay attention. She was always available for extra help. My only complaint is that things got graded VERY late.
This is the 3rd class I have taken with Professor Shroyer and she is just amazing! Very detailed and clear lectures. Responds to emails very fast. Attend her lectures, ask questions, do the homework and you will get an A. If you are a rookie with programming, take her!!! She will turn you into a pro programmer in just a semester.
She is the best! will answer any questions you have and youll lern a lot from her class. The only problem is that she grades everything the very last day.
I found this class easy to follow, clear guidelines and well organized. She was helpful and truly wanted each student to get the most out of the class as possible. Was trying to build a solid programming foundation. She is very slow at grading, but as long as keep up with discussions, quizzes, homework and tests, you will do fine.
I've had Professor Shroyer for all of my CSIS classes except for 135. She's amazing. Video lectures are important. 137 is super important for CS majors and its not easy. She adds a lot of material and the best part for me was the final project. Find a good partner for the midterm cause I surely didn't. He cheated on his part. She's the best!
Coding doesn't come naturally to me and I got an A+, not because it's an easy class, but because the lectures and notes she provided make difficult topics easy to understand. I emailed her toward the end of the semester about an unrelated programming topic and she kindly took the time to respond with helpful advice. Great teacher overall.
I took her for CSIS 112 in Winter 2021, and I loved it. Her lecture videos were very clear and concise and her notes/powerpoints explained everything you needed to know. I took this class because it was required for my major, but at the end of the semester, I loved it so much that I was excited to take her again for CSIS 135.
This is my 2nd time taking her, will be taking her for 137, 211, and every other class I possibly can. She is hands down the best professor at GCC combined. No textbook needed she makes AMAZING slides, gives example code, ALWAYS answers emails, and cares that her students learn. 135 had extra credit!!
I was so nervous for this class since I'm not a comp sci major, and just wanted to give it a try and I'm so glad I did. Professor Shroyer is amazing and has all the qualities a flawless professor could have. She's accessible, clear, and explains the concepts in a super understanding way. I recommend her for any CS class you take in the future.
I really love her teaching style! Had her for CSIS 112 and 135. Now I am taking 137 with her again! :)
She is an amazing, Professor, here is why: 1. Gives good feedback. Will help you fix your program. 2. Lenient on homework. Gives you 10 late days to turn in assignment. 3. Unlimited quizzes. You can keep taking the quiz until you get 100%. 4. Drop an Exam. You get drop the lowest objective exam. 5. Exams. Gives you study guides and does it wit u
I took a winter course for CSIS112. It was a lot of work, but I came out of class knowing how to code. Attend her lectures, take notes, participate in the discussions, and do your assignments. It can seem like a lot of work, but she is accessible outside of class and is happy to help. Best Computer Science teacher I have taken!
She is a nice professor and is wonderful at organizing the class. But the homework kind of gets overwhelming if you don't keep up with it. Make sure to watch all the lectures and read over the textbook if you have it.
Professor Shroyer is one of the best professors I've ever had. She taught the first programming course I ever took (and then several more) and changed my life by helping me learn to program, which I now do professionally.
Greatest professor a person could ever take.
Easily the best instructor I had at GCC or the uni I transferred to after GCC. She's a great lecturer, she breaks things down in ways that make sense, has good pace, encourages participation, and gives relevant HW. I wish I had taken more of her classes.
Legendary!
Awesome teacher. Be ready to study slides and watch all videos. She is repeating the information till everyone can clearly understand. Highly recommend.
Great Professor who is always ready to help you. Take her, you will not regret it.
Truly the best in the field of programming. Learned a lot about programming. Suggest everyone who is a computer science major.
I saw the high rating and was skeptical at first, but she is by far the best teacher on campus. Made all her lectures and they are very clear and straightforward. Class is paced perfectly and you just keep learning in a way that is not too difficult. She also has videos to help if you're stuck which you may need at time. Is very responsive as well.
Great teacher and fair grader
If the entire world had her a teacher we would have reached world peace - literally best teacher ive ever had in terms of code
After taking the Java class this was my second class with Shroyer. 135 is not very hard if you completed 112 earlier and in the first half of the semester, you are going to repeat the same thing that you did in 112 but with C++. She is the best CS professor in GCC. I am glad that I still have a chance of doing 137 and 211 classes with her.
Best teacher I've ever had.
I took her for the winter course and I do not regret it! The start of it was overwhelming with the amount of homework due each day, however if you time out when you'll be doing your assignments you'll face no issues! There is also zooms available too for extra assistance and she posts all her slides in a video lecture format as well!
so stressfull
Great Professor, learned a lot!
Hands down THE BEST Professor in GCC!!!
Best Professor ever, have taken a couple classes already in CS and none of them even compare to hers, she is the best
I want to express my heartfelt and profound thanks to you for the education you have given me throughout the semester. Thank you very much, you were so caring.
Professor Shroyer is amazing - her lectures are super engaging, and she's always willing to help. Definitely take advantage of the video recordings and Unstuck study for extra study prep. The workload is manageable if you stay on top of things.
Lectures are pre-recorded, but very good. She communicates clearly, gives detailed notes and feedback, and gives you plenty of options to do well in the class.
Understanding professor, gives opportunities to retake assignments, and gives clear responses when we have questions.
Great Professor! Lot's of opportunity for success!
