Great lectures!
Lectures are great, She puts effort into giving them so they are not boring. Gives good and funny examples.
You can tell she knows her stuff and her lectures are entertaining and engaging. Great prof, really nice woman!
This class killed my gpa.
great lecture, actualy kept me awake in class. She is very easy to listen to, and 100% knows her stuff
Really awesome. She's helpful and knows what she's talking about. Completely lecture based class but she's so exuberant and loves what she teaches. I recommend her, even if you don't have a huge interest in history.
She is a great teacher and got me back to liking history. She teaches you while at the same time is very funny and you can tell she knows what she is talking about. Highly Reccomened
You will never get out early, she often goes over class time with her lectures. She's boring and it's absolutely necessary that you write down every word she says because you never know what will be on the test and there are SO many different things she goes over. I don't know why she has such a good rating, she's weird don't take her.
I thought she was great, some thought otherwise. I took both HIST1301 & 1302 from her and Im glad I did. No powerpoints, no videos, no handout notes - straight lecture class; if you miss anything, its all googleable. Required text is a small bio about SamHouston1301 or RonReagan1302 that you have a series of 10pt quizzes on. Strongly recommended.
Awesome lectures. Exams are tough. Require a lot of studying.
TAKE HER FOR BLENDED COURCE. she does all her test online(except final) which makes it alot easier. Lectures arnt boring at all. Test are made by her and not from a test bank so its very high school level.
Straight & to the point. She knows what she's lecturing and her lectures seem like she's telling a story. If you're an auditory learner, like me, she's great. Open to discussion and like talking about the people in history. No specific dates are given and she gives you a list of key terms that she tests over. Good humor, witty, and I like her.
took a blended course requires a lot of reading, not a bad professor but not easy at least on a blended course
Took a blended course, very difficult to keep up with the reading. All lecture, but they're pretty good and interesting. Would recommend her, just not a blended class
Her lectures are amazing! Thoroughly enjoyed her class
My experience with Professor McCoy was that she was not very organized and that is why the class was difficult for me. I did not make the grade I would have liked to make because a lot of the time I did not know how to get her stuff organized. But I guess if you can deal with that, it's not too bad.
he was a very good teacher and if you kept up with the chapters should be very easy but she loves history
Not a history class but loved her class!! Took it blended and it was fine. Just keep up with your weekly assignments (they're easy, just do them) and listen to her lectures. She loves history and made it very easy to listen and learn! Would take her again if I could! Tests are online, final is in class. Weekly assignments online too.
Great lectures, but definitely a strict prof and hard grader. Exams are not easy and require a lot of study. Luckily her grades are balanced between essays and exams. Difficult but fair.
I took it blended. She's really nice and funny. I hate history but her class was enjoyable. She's a tough grader but she's fair and she wants you to do well in her class. It's tough and it's a lot of work but just turn in your assignments and study and you'll be fine. Also, attendance is for a grade so go to class.
Her lectures were extremely difficult to follow. I felt that she jumped around a lot during her stories which made it hard to take notes. The test can be difficult as well and she grades harder than most. She gives you grades based on your attendance and you have weekly discussion boards for her class.
She loves her job and is amazing at making this class interesting for you. She tells it almost like one giant story, I loved this class. I took it blended and as long as you just do you homework you'll make an A, quizzes are easy and the tests aren't too difficult either.
I took her blended course and lets just say its not blow off class. Expect to read ahead and hw every week during the semester. Expect to buy two book that are required one will be needed and the other i recommend scan the first few stories and return the book. No extra credit so you get what you get.
The blended course is rather easy cause every test, quiz, and homework assigned is online. She is a great teacher and is pretty funny during her lectures. One of my favorite professors, but do not expect to get an easy a she makes you work but they are all online.
Prof. McCoy was the best Prof. I've had. She is passionate about her subject and funny. I didn't find it difficult to stay awake and her instructions were clear. Everything you need to complete online stuff is posted and you can pace yourself. She teaches blended courses so you do need to read.
Great prof.! I took her 1301 class and am in her 1302 now. Love her lectures. It's blended so sometimes it's hard to tell what to look for but she gives you a list of terms to find. Makes reading the online stuff easier. Very passionate about history.
Great prof! I loved her lectures but hate history. Most everything is online but you do need to take good lecture notes. There's an essay and discussion boards so alot of writing but its blended. Very passionate prof.
LOVE HER! She just talks, doesn't use powerpoints and is so funny that the material just sticks. HW every week, super easy A! She takes attendance for a grade. Blended course so there was a lot of outside reading, but tests were straight from the book. She really cares about students and has a great personality. Please take her, best prof I've had!
I took professor McCoy's summer class. There are no slide shows which helps you in the long run. You have to type notes on your laptop or write them, which helps you learn more in my opinion. Tests were fair, no textbook used. Quizzes were fair, we had one paper. Great profession with a lot of passion. I am taking her for history 1302 :) !!
Great teacher but she gives you all the information you need for her test in her lectures.
I had her for 1302. Great lectures. The only slight issue is no power points so if you miss a lecture good luck getting the information needed. Definitely use your laptop to make notes on the lecture outlines she posts to eCampus. Definitely take her again.
Professor McCoy is amazing! She found made history fun, interesting, and always found a way to incorporate humor into her lectures. There are only three tests and four quizzes and they're all extremely easy. If you show up to class and pay attention you should get an A in this class.
If you're an auditory learner this is the professor you should take. I really struggled in her class with tests, so be prepared to study A LOT. I did enjoy her lectures because she knew what she was talking about. I wouldn't personally take her again, but that's up to you.
Gives great lectures. The wording on the exams are what make them tough. She grades attendance so show up to class. I only wrote one paper in her class and it wasn't that bad. Overall, she's a nice person and I would take her class again.
Only lecture, doesn't write anything on the board while teaching. I am a visual learner and like to take notes to be reminded of terms (which are a lot by the way). Lectures are interesting, but nothing like the wording on the test and quizzes which makes it difficult. Be ready to sit and listen every class period.
Lecture's only, doesn't bother to write anything on the board, she talks fast. It's unclear what to write and what not to write down because she often goes off topic.
I LOVE THIS WOMAN. She is the greatest professor I've ever had. She gives her lectures in a story format so its easy to understand and remember. As long as you sit in class and take notes on everything she says you'll get an A. She's hilarious and I loved going to her class. Im taking her again for 1302.
By far my favorite teacher I've had at Blinn! She lectures every class through the whole 50 minutes, but she at least jokes around and makes everyone laugh. Print off her Lecture Subject and if you just take notes of those specific names and events you'll make an A. Every quiz/test is literally straight from the notes on the important names/events.
SHE MADE ME LOVE HISTORY!! I wish I had taken her for Hist 1301. You can tell she actually enjoys teaching History and knows what she is talking about. She gives her lectures without following a PowerPoint so print out the key terms! The quizzes are easy as long as you look over the terms and study a few days before you will ace this class.
I love this professor so much. Shes truly talented in giving lectures. Youll hear people complain about the lecturing and the testing, but the reality is that if you pay attention- this class is by far one of the easiest classes you will take in your entire college career. Enjoy and praise this teacher!
She gives you lecture terms so write down everything she says about those terms and you'll get an A. Im taking her for the second time and receiving my second A with her. Her lectures are fun to listen to and I liked going to her class. easy peasy and fair
Decent professor, lectures are somewhat entertaining. Lecture term list is pretty helpful. Does not use any powerpoints or visual aids, strictly lecture. The only things that are graded are a paper, quizzes, tests, and attendance!! If you do not test well, I would not recommend taking this course.
I liked her as a person but this class was a pain. Attendance effects your grade. Her lectures are stories and NOTHING LIKE THE TEST. NO TEST REVIEWS. Cant stress that enough. She also talks very fast. Cant use your laptop. If you miss a lecture thats it. NO POWERPOINTS. You need to memorize 100 terms for each test. Grades the essay very hard.
Dr. McCoy is the best history professor I've had. She is very knowledgeable and makes history actually sound interesting (a rare attribute).
World's best history teacher. Her lectures are phenomenal. She gives you a term list to follow as she's going through her lectures. Her quizzes and tests are a piece of cake if you actually study. Very nice person and if you miss a term: ASK HER. Don't be afraid to ask her questions!!!
Y'all. I cannot stress enough that this is THE history professor to take at Blinn College. All of my friends have taken her and loved her. She grades by attendance, testing, and quizzing. She gives you a lecture term sheet to follow along with her lectures, which creates a stress free atmosphere in the classroom. If I could take her again, I would.
I loved her as a person, hated her as my teacher. She rambled in her lectures and made it impossible to decipher what was important. I ended up spending way too much time studying only to find out half of it wasn't on the test and I couldn't remember in the blur of everything what actually is! She's hilarious but a little all over the place.
She is a sweet person but her class is HARD. Her lectures are strictly oral, although she does provide a term list, it doesn't help much. She also missed a month worth of classes and had multiple subs/ a test in her absence which screwed us over because the subs had no idea what she was gonna talk about/ what was going to be on the test.
She would lecture the entire class and give a lot of good information, but there was a lot of information on the tests that were not in the lectures. She also did not have powerpoints so lots of notes is a must.
I love her as a person because she is super relatable but this class was really difficult. She just stands at her podium and talks about the lectures as if it were a story, no power points or anything, just her talking. The lectures were pretty boring and she gives you a term list that you will need to follow along during lectures.
She is sweet but I absolutely do not recommend taking her. I took 18 lectures worth of notes (literally 1.7 pounds of study material) and did not pass her class. She does not help. Missed a month of classes and no leniency. Gives terms to look for but test is all over the place & you never know what she will ask. If you like your GPA, DO NOT TAKE.
Can't describe how great Professor McCoy is in 350 words. She has mastered the art of lecturing and is easy to pay attention to; she gives you a list of terms to take notes on and follow along as she explains the wonders of US history. The mid-semester writing assignment (required by Blinn) is an easy 100. She treats everyone with respect.
THE BEST PROF! Professor McCoy is hands down the best prof I've ever had. She is passionate about her work and takes a genuine interest in getting to know her students. McCoy is willing to work you until you understand the material. She will give you lecture terms, which will provide you w/ everything you need for quizzes/exams.
I enjoyed this class, predominately because I like history taught as a story-- which is how she lectures. All her grading is based on vocab, which she gives to you to look for. So if you're a great studier, pick up on terms easy, and/or are an auditory learner this is an easy A. However, she does NOT offer extra credit, and there's no homework.
Absolutely a solid pick. Dont expect any power points, as she is strictly a lecturing professor, but keeps it interesting. Bonus points (not actually) if you pick up on some of her repeated quips (i.e Eeking out an existance). If lecture style teaching is something you enjoy, McCoy is a solid choice.
I am currently in her History 1302 class and it has been enjoyable. One paper, 4 tests, 4 quizzes, and a final. Attendance is worth a great so don't skip. Study for tests you'll do fine. Quizzes are super. The paper isn't hard but she grades it kinda tough. Her lectures are interesting and don't bother buying the textbook. No extra credit.
She's very straight forward and really makes sure that you are aware of your grade. The test are relatively easy if you listen during lecture and I'm not very good at staying focused but she keeps me on my toes. She has a good sense of humor. Just make sure you show up for lecture because she gives you details that you'll need for the quizzes.
Does not prepare you for her exams
The only grades you get in this class are quizzes, exams, one essay and a final. No powerpoints, its strictly lecture the entire class. Its hard to keep up with writing notes as shes talking. The quizzes and exams are put in her own words so you have to write down everything she says or you will fail. Would not reccoment at all!!!!!!!!!
Love her personality, but hated her class. She makes it very very hard for visual learners to obtain information. No homework, just tests, quizzes, and one essay. Lectures the whole class and rambles on about information so you don't know what to write down. Gives lecture terms but no power point. If you are a visual learner don't take this class.
Ive always picked up history very well until I took this class. I do appreciate how she teaches as a story, but with her quiz and exams its almost like she picks fun facts about everything so what you studied isnt right. I didnt go to one class and she was so quick to update my attendance grade to a 90% instead of 100%.
I love this professor! I would definitely take her if you can keep up with her haha. I would recommend taking her Monday Wednesday and Friday classes because she talks the whole entire time. She is willing to help outside of the classroom.
Graded by very few things. If you skip do not expect to pass. No extra credit whatsoever. If you suck at hearing a professor speak all throughout don't choose her. Choose her if this is your last resource or you can listen and do great.
McCoy is awesome, but her class is very hard. She lectures from start to end & doesnt have powerpoints, so you are responsible for your own notes. Lectures are interesting but she goes way too fast. No review guides which makes tests hard to study for. Only grades you get are quizzes & tests. One writing assignment & she grades it very tough!
She relies on lecture alone, so only take this class if you take good notes!! She makes her lecture terms pretty easy to remember, but you will need to study for the test. I took her again for Hist1302.
This was easily the worst class I have ever taken. Professor McCoy doesn't use a powerpoint or any visual for her class so lectures are extremely bland and make it very hard to stay attentive.
Professor McCoy is absolutely amazing! Her teaching is very straight forward and easy. The tests and quizzes are easy as long as you study for them and she gets them graded pretty fast. Fyi her classes are lecture based. I took both of her classes and loved them!! Overall, I would definitely recommend taking any class she teaches.
Mccoy is heavily lecture-based. she does NOT do presentations or slide shows, so if your a visual learner does not take her. if you can learn audibly, shes fantastic. super funny, loves history, does a great job of lecturing. very few grades, so stay on top of your online work. if you don't show up you fail. class is easy, just make an effort!
this class is ridiculous and do not take it if you want a teacher that cares about you succeeding. Look she knows her stuff and she even keeps you awake, but she will not give any extra credit, test are extremely lengthy, and overall, she is a very hard teacher. It doesn't matter how many times you reach out, she wont help you get your grade up.
Her class is lecture heavy so prepare for a lot of talking. she will remind some people that they aren't doing too well in her class but she doesn't really help you or guide you into passing. Her exams are all 100 questions and pretty hard so make sure to study a lot if history is not your thing. Trust me, I know.
if you are ADHD/ADD do not take this class. It is our worst nightmare. She uses no visual aids and expects people like us to just listen and comprehend. It makes me sad. i had to drop bc i felt so dumb. it is not hard to create a ppt to help us visual learners out. she knows her stuff tho & clearly loves her subject. just wish for visuals
Horrible!!! Only has lectures and does not provide any power points or extra notes for her students. If you can't just sit and listen to multiple lectures then do not take this class!!
very lecture-heavy, no PowerPoint or any visual aids, just talks. grades very tough for no reason and tests are all 100 questions. If you have a hard time staying focused don't take this prof.
I took her class during the summer and she uploaded the lectures. There are no PowerPoint notes you HAVE to take notes as you listen to her lectures. Lectures are very interesting with a lot of fun facts. She has discussions and the test are based on her Lectures. Take good notes !!
Shes very nice and knows how to keep a lecture interesting. Although, do be aware she does not give extra credit. Shes very lecture heavy, take good notes. Tests are long but easy if you study your notes. a discussion board once a week and attendance are the only other assignments. easy class.
Professor McCoy is very lecture heavy. She does not provide power points so you need to make sure you write everything down. Tests are fairly easy, using quizlet will help you pass. You do have to write one compare/contrast essay in her class that she grades fairly hard.
dont take this professors classes, shes ruthless on getting her way. she treats students like dirt and has a smart ass attitude. also teaches blended courses but requires attendance
Prof Mccoy is a nice person but I hate the way she teaches. She ONLY has recorded lectures that are just her talking. She has no Powerpoints at all. You either read the textbook or listen to her talk. No makeup work at all!!! all assignments are writing and tests.
IF YOU ARE NOT AN AUDITORY LEARNER DO NOT TAKE THIS PROF. All of her lectures, up to 400 minutes a week, are a blank screen. No powerpoint to follow along, no anything. Being a visual learner, this was very difficult for me. Most of those lectures will not appear on the exams. "This could've been an email" personified.
I am convinced she wants her students to fail. She grades things incredibly hard even though you do exactly what is asked of you. Her tests are really hard and she never does reviews so you have to just wing it on studying. She expects you to listen to 6-8 hours of lecture outside of class per week. She is an awful teacher.
Prof McCoy is a nice person, and her lectures are extremely entertaining for the most part. The thing is, so many test questions are never explained in the lectures or lecture notes. Sometimes it seems like she just spins a wheel to find out what questions to use. However, if you study enough, you will probably pass.
She made lectures interesting and her lectures are available online as well. 2 Exams, 1 Final, and 1 Essay. 300 word discussions every Friday with 150 word responses. If you don't take auditory learning well, she may not be the professor for you. I took her for 1301 and 1302.
100 question tests ONLY, as someone who suffers from attention deficit desorder this reflected terribly on my grade, also I didnt even sign up to take this teacher, right before I was about to walk into the class I did sign up for they changed me to her. Dont take this class if you want to enjoy your life.
Online lectures are very thorough but some are up to 3 hrs long so set time aside to watch them. No quizzes but there are disc posts and responses you can't flub. Never touched the textbook in or out of class. The exam Q's are taken straight from the lectures, take detailed notes and memorize terms and you'll be fine. Great class would take again.
NOT FOR ADHD/ADD STUDENTS. If you struggle with paying attention/needing stimulation, like having extra credit to fall back on just in case, don't take her because she doesn't offer any. If you're an anxious tester, rely on any feedback don't take her. She will not work with you. It's her world and we're just listening to her yap in it.
bro literally half of the class drop because so many students were cheating on the exams and I don't blame them, since all the lectures and study material were just audio lectures as a foreign student whose English is not their first language this is hell. She is not a bad person, nor she is rude to you actually, face lectures are interesting.
Actually not bad lectures definitely not good if you have trouble paying attention talks the whole time but that's what a lecture is. Tests are heavy material and you have quizzes right before the test. Only bad thing was how few assignments she had so the grade book wasn't cushioned if you maybe got a 60 on a quiz or test I'd bring you down.
Her lectures only have terms no slides just her telling a story. Some may work better this way but she makes her own tests with what she says. No extra credit and grades on tardiness and absences. Nothing to help boost or cushion your grade. If you are 10 minutes late she will not let you even try at the quizzes. Voice recording classes won't help!
I have taken multiple of Professor MCcoys classes because she is a great teacher and her classes are set up for students to succeed, she highlights what information is important and ensures your prepared for assignments. It is a very lecture heavy class but she is an entertaining lecturer and cares about student success.
I took her HIST 1301 class and loved it. She does not give homework or extra credit. For my class, our quiz and exam were in the same week, and there was one writing assignment, but it's all fairly easy as long as you take notes and listen to the lecture. I would suggest audio recording each lecture and listening back to them for quizzes and exams.
This is the EASIEST class you will ever take. No homework, no assignments just super easy exams. Honestly people who complain about this class are just expecting hand outs! Take this class sooooo easy
Although Professor McCoy is a great person overall, her class can be challenging for visual learners or those who prefer to follow along with presentation slides or written notes, as she usually lectures spontaneously without structured materials.
Warning: DO NOT CHOOSE THIS PROFESSOR .Professor McCoy's class will be difficult for those who are not audible learners. Prepare yourself for long, drawn-out lectures with little-to-no organization or substance behind them. She will ramble on personal stories during lectures, at times for 15-20 minutes without even discussing ANY course material.
If you pay attention to lectures and take notes you will pass easily. she literally gives you a paper with all the lecture terms for the entire class. If you write down what she says about the terms, you'll get an A. Don't take this class if you can't pay attention to lecture's though, as she doesn't use any visual prompts or slideshows.
Very knowledgeable and respectable. She loves to talk and talks with very strong vocabulary but it gets to a point. She flows through her lectures like nothing but sometimes she goes off task mixes up what we're learning. There are no daily grades but the writing assignment makes up your grade if you do not perform well on tests.DONT SKIP ANY CLASS
Professor McCoy's lectures are so descriptive and funny. It's more like listening to a podcast or youtube video about history than a college lecture. It is a ton of information, so prepare to study, but she gave us a list of terms which helped a lot. Definitely take her class!
There are no daily grades except for attendance. Do not skip lecture. Only quizzes and exams one per unit. There is a writing assignment that is not too hard, can easily make an A. No online supplements but she discusses everything in lecture so you must listen and at least take notes over the lecture terms she gives you which will be on the tests.
