A strict teacher who goes crazy if you don't do all the lengthily reading. Required a lot of writing that was more arbitrary than really beneficial to the course. She knew what she was teaching but I didn't feel like I got the full understanding of the information from her teaching.
ThIs instructor is passionate about History but tends to get caught up in irrevelant details instead of focusing on the big picture.
While taking her online class (American History II), she required that all discussion assignment have sources listed, which is not a problem. However, if you don’t source perfectly, you’ll receive a zero for the assignment.
Great Approach to History! Finally No Memorizing!!
Good teacher really dedicated to her students
Professor Kelley is one of the nicest professors I've ever had. She is very interested in the students and our ability to comprehend the material. She has a great way of connecting the past to the future. Professor Kelley is also a great advisor and really helps me understand how the classes I am taking will help me in the future. She is AWESOME!!!
Great teacher, offers to stay late and help. Doesn't put up with disruptive students tho and expects students to do all the homework.
Teacher is hard but cares about teaching us history. Be sure to do the homework
Hard but caring. So nice even gives us extra time on essays
Kelley tried her best to make the class simple and easy to understand. Read all the required materials and make sure to do all assignments if you want a good grade. Very strict on grades and attendance. Overall a good instructor that does care about her students.
Kelley is a tough teacher but very good at getting a student to learn. I took her a year ago and still remember points from her class. Warning, if you are not in class by start time and she calls roll without you, tough--she counts you absent. Whether you are late by 15 minutes or 15 seconds. She will also drop you if you miss too many classes.
love this teacher! love this class!
Great teacher. Interesting. Easy assignments, even give helpful study guides.
Excellent caring teacher! Thank you for all your help Ms.Kelley!
Great teacher, spent extra time going over material with me and always answered my questions promptly.
Really enjoyed the class. Finally actually learned about history.
Ms Kelley is a great prof. She always answered any questions I had, also made it fun and interesting to learn history. I will be taking more of her classes.
Currently taking this teacher online.. When you ask for help she doesn't fully answer your question and in return gives you no credit for the hard work you do. I recommend not taking this teacher online if you don't want your GPA at stake because she'll ruin it.
Great class. Everything spelled out. all you have to do is check off the assignment directions. Great teaching. Even offered extra credit
Great prof, very helpful, takes extra time to answer my questions
Best history class ever. Teacher was funny and helped us actually learn about history.
I would not recommend taking this teacher online.
Funny, nice teacher. Worked with me on things I didn't know.
Easy class,helpful teacher,great online
Easy if you follow directions. Watch for extra credit at end of semester.
Really enjoyed this class. Completed activities in class to learn material and keep it interesting. Looked forward to attending each week.
She was extremely unhelpful. She grades either 0 50 or 100. I made a 50 on all assignments with her only feedback being your footnotes are not completely correct. on an entire paper each week she took off 50 pts. for incorrect footnotes. I would not recommend her nor would I take another class with her.
Great class overall. Easy to earn homework credit and lots of review for each section. More than just lecture, class activities too. Highly recommend.
Harsh grading and after taking test she will not show what you got wrong, just your grade. When I ask question she doesn’t give me a clear answer. Not professional teacher what so ever she should not be teaching.
Great online class. Very thorough teacher
Lots of discussion to help us remember main themes and topics. Teacher keeps it interesting.
Horrible instructor stay away
I had Mrs. Kelley for all of my classes at MCC and I really learned to like her and her classes. She is tough but she wants the best and she really wants you to learn. Mrs. Kelley really does prepare you for University level classes. She DOES know what she is talking about. Thanks Mrs. Kelley!!!
Horrible
I took her class as hybrid and her teaching style is very unique. All we did was watch videos and then have a test on the opposite stuff like if you do take her class then you need to pay attention to moodle because that's where you test is coming from not nothing you do in class. Oh yeah and her grading scale is 0. 50. or 100 so goodluck...!
Class has a good mix of homework and lecture and video
Teacher works to make interesting. Lots of discussion. Some videos.
Fun class
I'm not afraid of hard work or difficult instructors, but she is the WORST instructor I have ever had! Class started with 37 students and ended in less than 10. She grades in the all or nothing method. I emailed her to inquire how I could improve upon my discussion boards, she simply told me to reread the syllabus. Only C I received at this college
A lot of people insist Mrs. Kelley was tough, but she honestly was an amazing professor. I advise you not to skip and to always do your homework because you'll never know when she checks it. She listens really well to students and makes the classroom a better environment by adding engaging debates and discussion. Definitely would take her again!
Lots of reading! Worth the studying, helped prepare me for the University.
Horrible!!! Do not take this teacher.
Great teacher.
I took her american history 2 class online my first semester of Mitchell. It was a lot of work and a lot of writing. When the testsexams came I didn't have a clue. History is usually my best subject. I would always email her as well and wouldn't get a lot back. If take that, study hard.
Horrible. Almost spiteful. You can put your heart and soul into an assignment and fail it. She's available for help but you won't find helpful advice. Forgot footnote numbers? Your grade is 50. Harsh grader and bad teacher.
Very good professor, I loved her class
Good teacher, tough grader and very specific on how things are done
Ms. Kelley was an amazing instructor. For her hybrid class, you are required to do your homework, otherwise it counts as an absence. Ms. Kelley explain everything clearly, and helps connect the history to today. I highly reccomend Ms. Kelley for HIS 132.
Teacher makes it interesting. Not hard to do well if you just complete the work regularly and use the study guides.
Works to make the class interesting with class activities that helped me learn. Different but I liked it.
I just want to survive the semester. She seems upset when you ask questions and ask her to clarify her grading system. She counts off for everything. I havent learned alot about history but I have learned that she expects perfection in spelling, grammar and notations. I'm thinking about transferring early and retaking history at antoher school.
Finally I don't hate history.
Mrs. Kelly's class was extremely hard for me because she did not lecture or go over notes on info in class, she played movies and documentaries for the class which did not help. She also tend to get mad/irritable when students asked questions. If you are sick or can not make it to class, she will give you a zero. Highly recomend not to take
Loved this class. Not all just lecture and note-taking. Looked forward to it.
I don't know what this teacher expects from her students. You make one mistake on an assignment prepare to get a zero or 50. Oh yeah she only grades most assignments 0 50 or a 100. One class in particular we had a kind of history debate. Well I gave my point on the issue and thought i did really well. She gave me a 60. It is a miracle I passed
Instuctor isn't very clear or precise in giving instruction for homework and studying . Very difficult teacher and if you complete the homework less then 3% of class actually do it correctly or her way. Then find everything in the world wrong with it to make you get a zero.
No pop quizzes or research paper. Prepare for class, attend, and do well on the tests and you will pass.
Show up and complete the work and you will pass. A stickler for following directions but, easy coursework grades if you complete the work. Tests are hard but does give study guides.
She doesn't make the homework clear. There were two different homework assignments called review and there was one that had three different names. Very confusing. She's also sarcastic and (Rightly i guess) expects you to act and work like college students who want to get a good grade.
Very supportive and helpful. Made me want to go into teaching. Tough class but, the opportunity to learn a lot about history and skills to succeed.
Would take again.
DO NOT TAKE This Professor has a live attitude, Instructions are not specified clearly, you can't miss a single day (it doesn't matter the reason, work has to be turned in in class the day of, so If you end up having to work she will not accept delay or via email) all while she tells you class is mandatory she missed four days In a row spring "16"
Must complete the work. Hard to make an A otherwise. Definitely helped me and other students prep for 4 year college load. Glad she did show some videos.
Digging this class!
Mrs. Kelley is the hardest tester ever. I would not recommend her at all. She will give you quizzes and tests that make no sense. Do not take her class unless you are a good test taker and are good at true/false question tests/quizzes.
I took her class online and it was very hard to understand what assignments/chapters were supposed to be completed. Quizzes were a little unclear but she was good at responding to emails and offering opportunities to boost grades. Take good notes on reading and read primary sources!
She gives you a participation grade worth 10% so make sure you show up to class. I did not like the class there was a lot of papers worth only one point.
Loved this class. Lots of opportunities. Really tries to help the students learn not just busy work.
I took the course online and it was more confusing than any class i've ever taken. NOTHING was clear and I spent most of my time trying to figure out what she was asking as well as going to her to help clarify what the heck she wanted. It was overkill on the papers and essays--especially since they didn't amount to much in terms of grading.
No major papers
If you don't want to work for your grade, don't take her class. It is as simple as that. I'm an A student & I struggled. She is very harsh & doesn't allow you to mess up. She gives you a 0, 50, or 100 on in class assignments. There are some people that have given her good reviews on here & they're crazy. Listen when they tell you, DO NOT take her!!
DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER. Her method of 'teaching' is seriously messed up! I did all assignments, studied harder than ever - still flopped nearly all quizzes. She does not assignment homework - I would have welcomed homeword at least is may have helped pull my grade up. ONLY quizzes - and her thought process is NOT normal. DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER!
Not sure why there are negative reviews because I found her to be a very good teacher. Every time I went to her office she was available to help me and discuss the course. Really appreciated this instructor. As long as I kept up with the work I did ok.
Wonderful, nice teacher. So funny and really there for her students. Easy A!
Great teacher! Always there for you if you need help. Gives really good study guides. I would definitely recommend taking her class
HIS131 ONLINE
WORST TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD, Mitchell has some pretty bad teachers but she takes the cake. She doesn't teach you anything and will give you 40 question fill in the blank exam and only gives you 30 minutes to take it. she makes up the questions and they don't make any sense. This class was the biggest mistake of my life. NO ONE TAKE THIS TEACHER!!!
I have always been very good at history but I struggled with this class, mostly because I do not learn very well from reading and because it was my first online class. The professor was available when I contacted her via email and helped the best way that she could. I would not recommend this class if you do not learn well from reading.
AWFUL! Would NEVER take her again. I read all the bad reviews before I took her thinking nah, she can't be that bad. WRONG!! I am a 4.0 student, and I had a C in her class by the first month. beware.
Tough. Very few assignments. Wording of questions poor to purposefully confuse you. Was friendly when I emailed her but do not recommend taking this class unless you teach yourself well and have experience with online classes.
Class is mandatory but there is hardly anything of importance that happens during class time. Ms. Kelley was a very harsh grader; it seemed as though she wanted to trip you up so she could grade you poorly. Overall, I felt as though it was a waste of time and if I could do it over again, I would absolutely take this class online/another instructor.
Good teacher. Very doable online class. Only assignments/grades are weekly quizzes and then a few exams. It's up to you to learn the material by reading the chapters and additional resources she gives. Drops a low grade at the end of the course to boost your final grade. Tests aren't hard if you've read the material.
Extremely difficult to work with. I ended up dropping her class within the first two weeks. I told her the name I like to go by which is my middle name and she said "too bad I will still call you by your first name". I felt like she took pleasure in seeing us struggle. Would not recommend.
