horrible teacher!! she never helps you in lab. she tells you to read the book and will not help you at all! do not take her! she has a very bad attitude and argues with everyone in class.
Carson does not know how to articulately teach the content of the course. Her class is essentially death by power point, she adds no value to the book. The other reviewer was correct in that she is confrontational with students. Needs extensive coaching on effective teaching methods. One plus is she uses the online blackboard system extensively.
I totally disagree with the previous comments - she is extremely thorough. She has more than a good grasp of the material. She has bunches of office hours in case you don't understand. She only makes you read so that you can do well on Exams. She said that at the beginning of the class. Her material is challenging so she doesn't spoon feed.
She is the best teacher ever! She is so confident when you ask her some questions because she will tell you to read book in stead of show you how to do. Also, her class is extremely hard that I never feel this way before. However, if you wanna challenge, go take her! Boring and useless class ever!
I completely enjoyed this class. It was EXTREMELY hard at first but she provided examples outside of the book that helped understand the material immensely. This is my 2nd time taking this course - I took it with another professor that didn't help at all! They only used examples from the book! She's one of the best teachers I've had while at ACC!
Very passionate teacher who knows the material. Very good at making concepts more understandable to almost a basic level. Highly recommended.
Confrontational when asking her questions. Study material is the book, which is poorly written. No added value to the book. Knit picky when it comes to test questions (answers have to be word for word, no mis-spellings, or considered wrong). On average it takes three hours to complete homework. Summary: Useless! Avoid this instructor at all costs
Project Management is a hard class. For assignments you have to ask her about everything because most of the time she doesn't specify exactly how she wants it done. The vast majority of time she is nice, but occasionally she can be snappy and rude. She should consider more that most people never did projects and have no idea what they need to do.
Project Management is a difficult class for technical students & students in the IT field. The book is vague & you do not get enough explanation from her, but in the form of "read the book". No true hard copy examples available for you to view. Each lab & exam reviews took countless hours to do. She can be rude, quick-tempered, & confrontational.
on day one she tells the class her need for professionalism and thtoughout the semester abandons this idea. She is rude to classmates and argumentative. She may understand what she is teaching and actually considers some students questions stupid as she gives a snide explanation. Grades will suffer if you are not on her good side.
People think she is rude but shes nice if you pay attention....class is easy as well as test and she gives you extra credit if you go to class
She has a very interesting way of answering questions; which is to repeat what she said before over and over until you give up. You should be prepared not to have any need for clarification about test questions either, she will just tell you to do what you think is right. The class it's self is pretty easy but don't expect to get anything from her.
Incredibly rude. Does not answer emails or grade assignments in a timely fashion. The only class I've taken where you have to go somewhere other than the testing center for exams. Unclear course schedule and syllabus to say the least. Just an all around unpleasant experience. Avoid this teacher at all costs.
Teacher was very rude and difficult to get a hold of. Did not respond to emails or phone calls. Finally responded to me she was rude and condescending. Screamed at me on the phone and just repeated her answers instead of listening to my questions. Ridiculously hard test. Asked number questions instead of true content. DO NOT USE THIS PROFESSOR!
She came off as a bit rude at first, but throughout the course I came to realize that her expectations to students were very reasonable. She gives you her expectations and honestly, if you meet them you shall be fine. Really read the book for the concept exams, that's the best advice she gives because that's how she makes the tests. Overall not bad
Prof Carson really knows this material and is willing to share her knowledge with the class but the student MUST do their part by doing the readings, homeworks, labs and attending classes (aka-"SHOWING UP TO LEARN"). No easy A's here but A's are possible if U don't fall behind and U put in the work. Overall, I really feel I got my "monies worth".
Great class and Prof. Had so much fun in the class! Great class to take if you want to have a good time but also do the work! You have to put in effort for your grade! Overall my favorite class all semester!
Her classes are well organized and she follows the syllabus. The material for class was presented with clear examples. If you are willing to work and learn take her class. She gives review for test and the exams are nothing that she didn't cover, so if you study you should be ok. Option for extra credit is available.
She is the worst teacher I have ever had. She is extremely rude. She does not respond to emails in a timely manner (outside of her "work time") and is very rude to you when you ask questions. The class is easy if you study but I would not recommend her class due to the fact that she is impossible to get along with.
She is very rude and will not answer any of your questions. If she doesn't like your question she will pretend to not hear you. She is not approachable. Class is easy enough to not need her though. Expect to be pretty much on your own.
She only answers questions for teachers pets. If she doesnt like you your grade will suffer for she will grade your homework harder. I didnt clash with her but i compared homework to another students and she was counting things wrong for her that i did wrong and she counted it right! Dont go to this class
She is extremely rude and sarcastic. She makes you feel stupid. I was very enthusiastic to start this program but now I feel hopeless. We go to and pay for school to learn something because we don't know it. So why on earth would she make you feel stupid therefore making you suffer? If you want to feel good after class, DO NOT choose her.
I really liked Ms.Carson! I can see why some folks don't like her, she can be a little sharp and it comes off as being rude but i really don't think she means for it to be like that. She's FUN if you let her be! But she does have expectations! Pay attention to instructions, pay attention to HER and get your work in on time!
SHE WILL RUIN YOUR GPA! BEWARE!! She is a horrible teacher! I'm attending ACC for my second degree and this class was mandatory. Considering I work from my computer for a living, I figured this class would be a breeze. NOT! The material isn't hard- her expectations are flat ridiculous!! Not to mention, she's rude & fails to answer questions.
Everything she says is covered in layers of sass and sarcasm. God forbid you don't understand the material or have to have something clarified. If you are brave enough to ask here, she usually just sucks her teeth, rolls her eyes, and repeats the last thing she said, which may or may not have anything to do with your question. Avoid at all costs.
Ms. Carson goes out of her way to make students feel stupid. People would do better in her class if they weren't afraid to ask her for help. Not approachable at all. Very, very rude person. The only thing i will take away from this class is a lowered GPA and the phrase "are we on the same page" stuck in my head.
Here is the deal with Ms. Carson: You gotta work. If you take any of her classes you will learn, which hopefully is your goal. If your goal is to skate through doing a minimal amount of work, you won't do well. She is extremely well organized, and everything is laid out for you. You just have to follow instructions, think critically and try.
Don't take a class with this professor. She is incredibly rude. She does a really good job of making people feel stupid when they're confused. If you ask her a question she will either get angry or keep repeating the same thing over and over and THEN get angry. I've always been a straight A student but had a very difficult time passing this class.
I definitely agree with the general consensus here. Professor Carson is unclear about her expectations from students and gets angry at questions. She has a severe attitude problem and seems to not be able hide her frustration. I went into the semester with excitement and enthusiasm and now am just looking forward to my last day of class with her.
I regrettably signed up for this class with the instructor not being listed. That being said, DO NOT MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE!! I'm 30yo and here to learn. She makes that very difficult. Any questions asked are responded to with sarcasm or as others have said, she'll repeat the same thing you didn't understand over again... as if it was more clear now
I took this class online which was a huge waste of money. I am an extremely applied student and this class made me feel hopeless and discouraged. Whenever I emailed the professor she sounded very pretentious. Unless you are really intelligent and committed don't take this class with her or online. The time I was in this class I was so stressed out
Was a good teacher for the first few weeks, then switched to powerpoint presentations. To teach programming. Really?! Gives no extra examples other than what is in the book. Then expects you to be able to produce insane code for labs & tests. She always says, don't worry, stay with me, it'll all make sense. I'm still waiting on that part...
Very disrespectful. Responds as if students are dumb for questions. Doesn't always know what she's talking about. -I'm a Programmer Micromanages your work. Use no creativity in your work and you'll be fine. When she doesn't show up, she still expects you to show up and do nothing/work on homework. Even left a sign-in sheet for attendance.
The Professor Carson is unclear about her expectations from students and gets very angry and rude at questions. She has a severe attitude problem and frustration. I cant wait for the last day of this class.
Really sarcastic and loves to help as less as she can... almost like she is evading the questions or not answering the question and isn't making you confident in the class , but her "help" isn't making it easier to learn material..
While she does know the material very well she constantly speaks to you in a condescending tone. Which makes it hard to ask questions in class because you don't want to be talked to like a child in front of other people. Sometimes she won't even come to class, and instead just have the attendance sheet for you to sign and sit there and work. Avoid.
Any class you take with this prof., you're going to work for your grade (like we should all be doing anyway). You will learn a lot, if you try. Go to class, be respectful, and when she speaks about her rules during first week, you bes listen. Think she won't call you out? Bet. (It's probably because you deserve it).
Here's the deal. She is really smart and knows her stuff but you will get the urge to snap at her for making you feel stupid. You grow with anger but since she controls your grade you hold back and rather stay quiet. Take someone else If you like to go to class. I got a B and only showed up for the exams. homework is online and stupid but easy.
I feel like the people giving her good ratings, is the professor herself trying to write herself a positive review. This class is still the only class and only person I took that I had to drop. Not because I was failing, because she is so unbearable, unapproachable, and unpleasant, that I could no longer physically be in the same room as her.
All the negative things said about this woman are true. How she has a job as an educator is beyond me, get ready to be treated as a less than when speaking to her. When she goes over the syllabus on the first day that is her out to act like an ass the rest of the semester. Sad to know my money was wasted in this garbage, learned absolutely nothing
I took this online so I can't say much about her personally, but she doesn't nothing to help you get ahead. I had so many questions about her confusing syllabus and I was always polite in my emails and she made me feel silly. I missed many assignments because her directions were not clear. I got a C in a class I should've gotten an A in.
Professor Carson is a terrible teacher. Im surprised she hasnt been fired by now. She is mean, sarcastic, and changes attitude as soon as you ask a question. This makes it especially hard to learn this already difficult material. AVOID HER AT ALL COSTS. You'll come out feeling lesser of yourself, and as a teacher she should not make u feel that way
I strongly suggest you to not take her even it's the last choice. You will learn nothing from her and hate programming. Attitude. everything said was true except worse; Teaching. Uses PowerPoint/hand writes notes (beyond laughable) to teach instead of typing codes with good examples; Confusing syllabus, deadlines and blackboard in general.
By far one of the most unprofessional instructors I've ever had, and I've been to 4 universities. She is rude, and belittles you. She is not helpful what so ever. She will let you sit there the entire class period, working on a program, and not help you at all. Totally lost. You're better off reading a textbook or watching YouTube.
In my opinion, she was an understanding professor. Just try to know your stuff before you come into class. Tests are a bit hard but if you've thoroughly studied for it, you'll be fine. You're better off getting help from a fellow class mate.
Here is the issue. Because this is an introductory class students expectation is that they can do minimal work to get by and they should pass. The reviews are inaccurate. Usually a review is only created when you have something negative to say. The bottom line is you need to do the work and read the chapters and you'll pass. A++ teacher hands down.
Blackboard assignments are a mess. You don't really know where things are located at, there are some assignments and exams in MYITLab and some on blackboard. She has the due dates in different sections for different assignments. Blackboard could definitely be simpler so people can understand. Really difficult to work with, she has an attitude.
Doesn't work with you at all.
Most drop class tbh. IF you don't read good luck! No test outlines are provided. Be ready to for anything. If you don't know how those access/excel/PowerPoint/word good luck b/c that's your only hope. For group projects she grades fairly but be careful b/c most drop & u do more work. Extra credit is offered. Looks easy at first but its not.
Took the online version of the COSC1336 course. No help, no support. Feedback on exams was minimal and not at all helpful. Feedback was also late, so there was also little to no time to review and improve in areas that you needed for the following exam. Passed the course, but grade should have been higher. I would not recommend this instructor.
Took her online course, she was not helpful at all. Any questions I had, she just said to go to the syllabus. I would not take a class by her again
Took her 8 wk online course and have never had a professor who was so unhelpful. Very slow to respond and when she did, She would always just direct us back to the orientation/syllabus info and tell us to just reread it. Exams are tough and she does not provide any exam reviews. You just have to dig in and pray you know the material enough.
DON'T TAKE CARSON! YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU'RE GETTING YOURSELF INTO! She doesn't: answer questions, give good feedback, clarify ambiguous test/lab prompts. I worked my butt off and got 3 A's that semester but got a C from her. She even deducted points for correct answers and refused to correct my grade! HARD WORK WONT SAVE YOU HERE! RUN! PLEASE!
Testing if this will work. I submitted one earlier
Such a terrible person, read the reviews. I talked to my advisor about reporting her and apparently you cant. Make yourself a favor and DO NOT take her class. Awful professor. Shes very paranoid about the internet for someone that teaches a internet presence class, theres something about her thats not right
Homework assignments were ridiculously easy. Tests were a bit more difficult but most of the answers were in the textbook. She responded to email quickly and with reasonable detail. You get a textbook, do homework, and take exams. Pretty clear course schedule (just follow the syllabus; she makes it clear)
i informed my professors that id caught covid 19 (which, i did), and most responded telling me to rest for a few days and get back to it. professor carson told me it was mandatory to turn everything in on time, so i got 0s in her class while battling covid. dont recommend.
She has a set method on how she teaches. If you don't understand something or if you ask a question it will not be answered. The test are so poorly designed that even if you know all the material you can still end up with a bad grade. She will take points off and not give you feedback, even on test. Do NOT take unless you already know how to code.
Terrible, ask a question and she'll look you up and down like youre below her, never really answers your questions, if you knew what you were doing she'd pay more attention to you than if you didn't. Bipolar when it came to class time sometimes she'd be great other times it was like we were bothering her, STAY WELL CLEAR UNLESS YOU HAVE EXPERIENCE
I regret choosing this class to learn computer programming
Do not take this class. Professor Carson is very knowledgeable but she is not cut out to be a teacher. She has a way of making her students feel less than she, and she is not supportive at all. There is so much homework it's absurd! There is no flexibility, gentleness, or support. She is clearly in the wrong profession and shouldn't be an educator.
Mrs. Carson is absolutely awful when it comes to teaching she has no clue how to response helpfully to her students, but instead refers them back to the syllabus. Her test are far from her homework assignments and it seems as though she expects you to understand coding before entering into this class.
I don't like this instructor and don't take with her because she was very awful. I advise for student no take with her and she doesn't help anyone.
This teacher is often wrong, and is a pernicious grader. They obfuscate directions, get confused, or make communication mistakes often. Tests were miskeyed (like a question which said to answer in mm/dd/yyyy format, but was actually keyed in mmddyy format.) and they refused to fixt it. The full course was "cengage" e-book and source material. Bad.
Everything is re-read in the syllabus. NOT all answers are on the syllabus! the layout of the schedule was great but there was so much homework and lectures were mostly videos and I was so lost after half of the time lectures would just her hating the internet and going off random tangent of something she read on the internet.
Professor Carson knows her field well and is an interesting person but I don't think she is meant to be a professor. I was always scared to answer her questions because she has a very harsh tone if your answer isn't what she wants and has little patience. I often got confused during her lectures. This class was still fun and worth it.
know that professor carson has NO regard to taking a course online and the tech issues that occur. The professor has no remorse and will not let you fix anything on turned in assignments will not let you to retake or submit an exam even if you have more attempts and submitted the second attempt in the amount of time allotted
Very rude. Slow to respond to emails. Doesn't make self available outside of 2 hours listed on the syllabus. Highly recommended not to take !! NO remorse or understanding at all! Wish I would have checked rate my professor before registering, but you can only get what you get these days. I hope I get better professor next semester.
This was the worst experience I have had, and I graduated with honors on distance learning for my associates degree. This professor seems to be out for sabotage BEWARE !
Her weekly announcements on BB really represents her attitude. She did not seem approachable and was condescending. It's a straightforward class but she literally just utilizes the online book application to teach the course with no input or guidance from herself, the teacher.
Oh where to start. She is an awful professor, Syllabus? unnecessarily complicated. Tone? rude& condescending. Course? Unorganized and all over the place. She mixed up dates for work and causes ppl to get 0 credit. Takes days to respond to emails. Her bb announcements sound like she has beef with students. Need COSC-1301? Get somebody else to do it.
Currently in this class. I can confidently say she's one of the rudest and most disrespectful educators I've ever had in my academic career. There's a reason why she doesn't have good reviews. I rarely complain and usually deal with quality teachers as it is a community college. But this is the first negative review of a professor for a reason.
I felt like my time was wasted with Youtube videos and inane, irrelevant, (sometimes rhetorical) questions. Teaching methodology seems to consist of reading straight from Power Point with anecdotal fluff. All the grading for the course is through McGraw-Hill programs, very little actual effort and enthusiasm from the professor.
She's ok
Easy class but what's with her attitude?. She is extremely condescending and doesn't seem to even care about the respecting students.
There were students answering a question and I could tell they knew what they were talking about, they just were not starting where she wanted. SO instead of stating they were on the right track, she said "Nope, next." This is the number one reason why nobody responds to her. She seems to shame students for not being 100% knowledgeable. .
DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS!!! This was a summer course, with over 270 assignments. Believe every review. She should not be an educator. She lacks the basic communication skills that are expected of a college professor. Teaching is not her calling. It's giving - I'm miserable let's make everybody miserable. Don't say I didn't warn you.
Not a very understandable teacher/person. Did not appreciate when we were taking notes during class. Wanted all attention. Kicked multiple students off zoom who said they were trying to take notes. Made students feel dumb even when they were on the right track. Was chit chatting with the people who knew about IT already and belittled others.
Worst professor in ACC. Beware, avoid at all cost.
The most hostile professor I've ever encountered. Never communicated with the professor directly, but class wide announcements were unnecessarily condescending and aggressive. Believe what everyone else is saying and avoid this professor.
This was my first time dropping a class, this teacher has other problems going on in her life. She is rude and always has a bad attitude like the world owes her something. She only listens to what she wants to hear and doesn't care if you pass or fail. Beware she will expect you to know everything by week 2, find a better professor who cares.
This professor doesn't have good reviews for a reason, I advise you to find another professor for programming. Expects you to know everything the first day you walk into class and has a problem answering questions. Very rude and not very helpful when asking important question about assignments or grade. Do not take her class if you are new to prog.
She's the type of person who makes others feel badly when they don't know an answer. Therfore, no one asks questions. She had me come to her office because I insulted her by saying I didn't want to hear her tell me the same thing if she wasn't going to explain it. I think she wanted me to apologize.Nope. I bailed before she could ruin my gpa.
