Great professor! Loves Math and you can tell. Explains things very clearly and tries to help students understand. Has useful notes and practice tests for students. Keeps lecture entertaining with jokes and practice problems. Sets a good pace. I didn't use the book and got great scores. Just pay attention in class and solve the practice tests.
best teacher!!!!!!
Dr. Lee is awesome. You can really tell he loves math and he is very good at explaining everything. All of his tests are doable and he provides practice tests for each chapter and review problems for the final. He grades fairly and makes class as enjoyable as a 9 am calc class can be.
Awesome teacher, makes the class fun and he teaches the information really well. Tests are straight forward and test to see if you know the material not if you know how to do impossible integrals.
Really cool professor. He creates an enjoyable classroom environment through his knowledge and the use of jokes.
Great teacher. Grades well and is very strait forward. Also tells jokes that are actually good.
Not mandatory to go to class, but it's also not mandatory to pass either. He's a good guy in class, but is pretty much useless in his office hours (makes you seem like a burden). Got an A this semester after retaking, and I got a D- last semester with some chinese professor. Overall he's pretty awesome (in class)!
Keeps class moving and interesting. If you're in engineering, I strongly suggest him as a professor because he doesn't really spend time going through long proofs that you don't need to know, but rather tells you straight-up what you need to use.
This dude is a straight up baller. No joke about it. Do what you can to take a class from this guy, which can be hard since the math department tends to hide what teacher you're getting until the last minute.
He is an alright teacher. I have had way better. His jokes are painfully lame.
If you have him I hope you are good at calculus because he does a lot of assuming of difficult topics that should be explained better. He's not totally worthless as a teacher though
Obviously loves mathematics. Great teacher (Seriously. Excellent teacher.) and sort of funny person (I'm still taken aback by his sense of humor that is sometimes a little cringeworthy. But it's good, he's being himself and natural.) Always very clear and thorough and great at explaining. Didn't need help, but I'm sure he would have been helpful.
Dr. Lee is an awesome professor. He is very down to earth, and does his best to work with students. He does plenty of examples in class, and pretty much tells you exactly what to study before exams. Definitely recommend him for this class.
Dr. Lee is a fantastic teacher! His exams are very straight forward as long as you do the suggested problems. I really enjoyed the class and would highly recommend Dr. Lee.
Awesome teacher. He keeps the mood lightened and teaches all the aspects of Calc 1 very well.
This guy is hilarious. Do whatever you can to take a class from him.
This guy's hilarious and always goes off on random tangents on his old professors, but comes right back to the topic.
This guy is hilarious and he is by far the best professor I have had in a long time. He is pretty easy to follow and his handwriting can get a little sloppy but other than that he is great. He made calc 2 fun, which I didn't think was possible. If you have the chance, take his class! Seriously cannot say enough great things about professor Lee!
Very good professor! He is a lot of fun in lecture and doesn't try to teach you math like you already have a PhD. His examples are good prep for tests. I wish I would have tried a little bit more in this class because I know if I would have been a little more proactive and gone to his office hours I would have a much better grade in the course.
Skipped a few classes, the content I missed didn't ruin me but the clicker questions I missed did ruin my grade. Tests were very very hard. He refused to curve some of them even when the average was incredibly low, I always did better than average but since he did not curve, I could not pass.. Explains concepts decently well.
Professor Lee is the man. He can only do so much though. Work hard in this class and you will be fine. Lee will get you through this tough class if you put the work in. I would definitely take another class with him!
Dr. Lee is by far the coolest and most helpful dude I've met so far at ISU. Guy is absolutely hilarious, teaches calc II well, and responds to emails within the hour. Class itself is crazy hard but Dr. Lee's lighthearted humor helps make it a tolerable class. I hope I get the chance to have a beer with you some day, my friend.
Professor Lee is definitely a cool guy, and his lectures are generally not boring. Despite how interesting he may be, you are the person doing the work in the class and at some point it doesn't matter who the professor is.
Calc 2 as expected... hard. But his tests are easier than the other teachers. The difference is he doesn't curve anything but the midterm or final, which are written by the other teachers and WILL take you by surprise because of how hard they are. Pretty sure the average for the final was around 35%.
Dr. Lee effectively teaches the material in a humorous way. He incorporates notes into his homework packet which I found to be very helpful. He gives out a ton of practice problems but they actual graded homework is minimal. If you are ever confused he is more than willing to clarify. In his class you will learn a lot but will never feel impossible
Funny guy, good teacher
He was by far the best teacher I have had in college. He explains everything very clearly and if you have questions, he helps you understand. He lets you know what to study for all of the tests and gives awesome practice problems that really reflect what is on the exams! Definitely would recommend Dr. Lee!
He really keeps the lectures interesting and keeps the students involved in their learning. He explains theory & example problems, then gives practice problems similar to test questions. Lots of time for questions and to work with other students. Really knowledgeable and enthusiastic about every subject covered. Very personable and approachable.
The best thing about him is that he is very clear in his grading criteria and you know what to expect from the tests he tells you if something is or isn't going to be on there. His grading is fairly easy. He's really good at explaining the concepts in math. He gives you a lot of time for the quiz. I definitely recommend taking a course with him.
Dr. Lee makes lectures fun and interesting by telling stories of his college experience while teaching calc. This class was difficult, but doable. He was a great teacher and I feel like I learned a lot!
Engaging and entertaining in the classroom, and provides students with valuable resources.
Really funny guy and he knows his stuff when it comes to math. Kept me interested during class
Funny guy that helped me actually understand Calculus instead of just learning for the sake of the test. Made Series fun.
He really loves what he does and enjoys seeing students understand the material. He is fun and willing to help! He enjoys telling stories, but knows when to stop and do work.
Dr. Lee knows the subject very well and structures his classes in a way that makes it easy to learn. You need to be independent enough to learn the material and not just expect him to do everything. However, this being said, I found that his lectures were very helpful and his tests were also very easy. He's also super stylish and hilarious.
He's a great lecturer. I never get bored during his classes. He knows when to slip in his jokes once in a while during class. If you show your effort, he'll definitely try his best to help you, seriously. This is a tough subject for me, so making it entertaining really help me to improve my marks through interest development.
Dr. Lee is an awesome professor. I have heard horror stories about Calc 2 and having him definitely made it a lot better than it could have been. He made pro-wrestling jokes and once declared that "pants are dumb," so it was pretty funny. There isn't a lot of class involvement besides the clicker, but he and my TA listened to course feedback.
Really good professor, relatable, funny, keeps you involved in lectures.
Really great outgoing teacher, can relate to students and was a very fun interesting class. Lean me new things
Professor Lee was funny and engaging, but uses clickers, so be aware. Calc II was a tough class to begin with, but there was a massive curve at the end (more than 10%). He tries to keep you awake in 8 AMs and he is genuinely interested in teaching. Tough class, tough grader, DO NOT SKIP LECTURE! Go to SI. Get a tutor, seriously it helps.
I had the priviledge of having Dr. Lee for calc 1 and 2. Hes pretty young and very relateable so youre not sitting in a boring lecture hall falling asleep. Tests are sometimes difficult, but not worth much. Probably the best professor Ive had
Great professor. he is funny and explains all topics really well. Calc 2 is pretty tough but the curve at the end and his teaching style makes this class easier
Keeps you interested, easy to follow, zero complaints..
He makes jokes a lot and sometimes shows small related videos. We had clicker questions that were moderately challenging at times but we got points for answering even if it was wrong (just used for attendance). He also encouraged us to go to SI sessions daily and wrote when/where they were held and if he recommended the SI leader.
Best math teacher I have had at Iowa State. If you have the chance to take one of his classes, I highly recommend doing so! He makes lectures interesting and interactive which is hard to do in math. Tests and quizzes were very straight forward and as long as you pay attention in class you'll do fine. Overall a great guy and an awesome teacher
BEST TEACHER EVEEEEEEEEEEEER!!!!!!!!!!! He is so helpful, charismatic, caring and hot.
The best Math professor and probably best professor I've had at Iowa State. Super funny, I wish I could take all my math classes with him.
Dr. Lee is great. He challenges his students, while still making it possible to get A's and B's. Homework, quizzes, and exams are given regularly, but you'll know when their coming way in advance. Great guy who loves video games and has a real passion for mathematics. I would highly recommend him if you ever get the chance.
Going to his office hours are very helpful. Dr. Lee is an amazing professor and I highly recommend taking 414 with him if possible. Make sure you attend all lectures, you get more out of it that way and can ask questions. He's also super chill and wear tshirts and shorts to class so it makes it easy to approach him because he's easy to "relate" to.
He was a pretty good teacher overall but a little bit quarky.
He makes me enjoy coming to class. He is super funny yet a great professor. I will try to get him for 166
+ Incredibly Funny and relatable + Explains things well in an understandable way + Loves his job + Office hours free points, many opportunities for free points. + Take this man's class.
Makes class interesting, genuinely wants to teach, gives great feedback. Class is easy to follow and easy to succeed in.
Loved lecture with him. Wish I had him in all math classes. 10/10 and super cute.
Loved lecture with him. Wish I had him in all math classes. 10/10 and super cute.
Best teacher of all time. Easy points come through homework. He is funny and serious at the same time and teaches the material very well. Definitely a good choice for a teacher.
He is great. Constantly meme'ing in class. Likes to bust out the "free response" questions to see what spicy memes his students can cook up. Loves to flame the other calculus professors. Besides all the keks in lecture, he really gets down to business and teaches calculus 1 very thoroughly. 10/10 would take another class by this rare pepe of a guy.
Holy cow this guy is the bee's knees, best professor at Iowa State. Hilarious professor, great lectures, and really prepares you well for other math classes at Iowa State.
I always thought Lee was the best, but then I had Steve Butler! Wow! What an intelligent guy!
Proof is a weird class to wrap your mind around the stuff that is going on in class. Don't be afraid to ask for help because he helped me turn things around to pass the class!!
Very funny. Does a good job explaining things. Not much to say. Overall a good professor.
He is a great professor. You will find that the homework and quizzes pale in comparison to the tests. He doesn't give extra credit or curve but it's worth doing the things he says are good for your health, especially attending office hours. That will really help you and working one on one with him is really helpful.
Dr. Lee is hands down one of the best professors in the Iowa State Math Department. Lectures are extremely valuable and worth attending. His exams are fair, not easy but he is not out to trick you. Homework is worth over half your grade. He is very friendly and approachable. His lecture is humorous but he gets the material into your head well.
Dr. Lee is a funny guy and is very straightforward with lectures. Everything about this class is great except he gives absolutely no curves on anything.
Great prof, one of the best I will ever have. He literally gives you all the material to get an A on a silver platter, so if you go to class and pay attention, there is no reason not to get an A. He has a great sense of humor, so see him in office hours if you have questions, he is approachable. He made me want to drop engineering and study math.
Dr. Lee is amazing. His lectures are fun, but he also gets stuff done. He gives you what you need for the exams, and the homeworks are not too difficult. I wish I would have tried harder in this class though. I highly recommend reading the book! Easily my favorite professor thus far.
Dr. Lee might just be one of the best professors in the school. I had him for Differential Equations and he made the class fun and enjoyable. His ability to explain concepts is crazy good and he is very willing to help outside class. His class is still one of my favorites.
Enjoyable professor. Got me to drop engineering and switch to math. He makes the concepts understandable and cool.
Topology is the hardest math class thus far for me. However, it is the best one yet. Kris is a really good professor who cares about his students.
Fractals and Chaos is an interesting class. Kris is an amazing professor; he is funny, kind, intelligent, and his participation grading makes it easier to do well. The one thing that sucked about this class was that it was at 8 am. RIP Math 439.
Math 492 is honestly boring, but you're guranteed an A if you do your presentation, 2 small papers, and show up to class. Kris is a great prof, but working in groups in this class does not work well. I highly recommend Dr. Lee for any math class, but only take this class if you have to.
Dr. Lee is one of the best teachers I've had, he's also such a great guy, and he makes me excited about my math major. His lectures are VERY engaging and clear, and he also inspires me to want to learn more. He also makes sure everybody feels comfortable in his class and like they matter. Whatever class, Dr. Lee is ALWAYS the go-to option.
You can tell hes a genius
Kris is the best professor you can get in the math department. Goes through the material very well and throws in some (sometimes cringy) jokes. Overall great guy and a great prof for diff eq.
Professor Lee is an excellent instructor. He is truly passionate about math and is excited to teach others. Many times during lectures he would go on tangents to talk about the history of math, which I found very interesting and engaging. The concepts in class were definitely challenging, studying is a must. He's a bit fast in lecture so go to SI.
Funny In lecture and also pretty good at explaining topics. Only complaint is he had some organizational issues. Ex. Exam reviews often have typos
You can tell hes basically a mathematical genius. It would be nice if he posted his lectures online in a more timely manner though
Kris Lee is a class A meme lord. Take math classes with him at all costs.
Probably the best class I've taken at Iowa State. We were graded 100% on weekly problem lists (homework), which at first I was a little worried about, but then I realized that I was never stressed about the class. Kris did a great job explaining things and him getting off-topic all the time made the class entertaining.
This class was a participation breeze (attendance is very much required), but Dr. Lee made it as enjoyable as possible. Would definitely take a more involved math class with him if possible.
It was a tough class but he's a great lecturer, was really entertaining, explained concepts well and always answered questions.
Dr. Lee is the best professor I've had at Iowa State University. I've taken two classes with him: Fall 2022 (Math 317) and Spring 2023 (Math 365). Dr. Lee's lectures are extremely engaging, and he has the best grading system. He wants all his students to pass and curves the class, so it is everyone's favor. I highly recommend all take his class.
Funny and nice but unorganized. Never comes prepared to lectures and is always late to posting online materials. His lecture notes are hard to look at and are really confusing compared to Butler's online video notes. Jokes around too much during lectures and confuses himself sometimes when trying to answer student questions.
Don't take classes with this guy. He's late at least 5-10 minutes every day, sometimes more and simply doesn't care. His notes are a mess and his handwriting is horrible, making it very hard to understand what he's writing. He is very lazy and shows that he doesn't care. Just stick to Steve Butler's videos. They are a lot better use of your time.
This professor was very open, giving work days in class that would answer most questions on the homework. His exam reviews are excellent, once again answering any questions. If you can sign up for his class.
This class was my favorite math course I've taken, and it was definitely because of Prof. Lee. His teaching made sense and he treated us like people with lives. It's obvious that he loves math and his stories got me through class. Warning: his handwriting is literal chicken scratch, but just ask him and he'll clarify. Highly recommend his classes!
For his online 207 sections, if you want to learn nothing, take it with him. If you want to spend many extra hours watching YouTube tutorials, take it with him because his video lectures are bad to say the least.
Lee does not show up to class prepared. He is consistently late or absent without notice, and has sloppy, illegible handwriting when he does attend. He jokes about wasting students' time when he is unprepared to teach the day's content, and has not responded to any emails requesting support for his students.
I thought that going into this class, it would be much more enjoyable with the positive thing that I heard about Kris. Upon going to class, I immediately learned that he is very bad with time management with being late or not showing up all the time. As well as his poor handwriting. I personally do not click with his teaching style, but others may.
The Iowa State Math Department's reputation suffers greatly from keeping Professor Lee on staff. He is lazy, disorganized, and indifferent to his students' success. Avoid his classes at all costs, and stay home to watch Butler videos if you are unlucky enough to be registered for his lectures - there's a good chance he'll skip too.
He is late and randomly skips lectures with no announcement, I dont know what he does but he does anything rather than teach.
Worst prof I've ever had. Randomly skips lectures without telling us, ignores student's questions, and is late to class about 80% of the time. Avoid at all costs.
It is almost the end of March and we only have one assignment graded. He constantly cancels class and we have yet to have an entire week where he does not cancel class. I don't know if he is just going through a rough patch but he is incredibly unoraginized and when he does show up he shows up at least 5 minutes late 9/10 times.
Best Calculus professor I had at ISU. Explains concepts well with lots of in class examples. Very helpful and responsive over email and office hours.
Shows up late to lecture every day and frequently ends class early. Clearly is not prepared. Fully ghosted a lecture with hundreds of students with no notice or later acknowledgement. "Funny" prof. that gives shallow hand-waiving explanations without substance to seem cool I guess. Strictly does not respond to emails. watch butler videos instead.
He's a really nice professor and can tell he's extremely passionate. However, we have two homework assignments graded, we have 4 total turned in. Class is cancelled frequently and is replaced with online lectures just going over the notes. Seems like a super nice guy very well-respected. This might be an off-semester but it hasn't been good so far.
Dr. Lee is a great professor. He genuinely cares about his students and yes, he has been through a lot this semester which has affected his classes but never did I feel that he was careless or was just doing what he had to do. He is really passionate about math and made MATH 3170 an enjoyable class for me. Highly recommend his classes!
Does a good job at dumbing things down so that you can understand the material. Funny professor who is willing to help if you need it. A little unorganized.
I will be honest, this guy did show up late quite a few times, but I think he made up for it in exam prep. His handwriting is messy, but I didn't think it took away that much from my learning ability. He keeps the lectures light with jokes and is easygoing, though I've never personally talked with him. It might be off-semester for him.
One of the best math professors at Iowa State. Amazing test prep that actually helps you do good on the exams and the homework is also done in class the day before so that you actually understand how to prove and compute stuff. Definitely recommend him and this course as it is applicable to machine learning and a lot of stuff in mathematics.
This semester he had a lot of things going on and was late to class a lot or didn't show up. There was no communication, but I truly think it was because he was going through a rough patch. I would say that he was a good professor when he was there, but because of the absences I just started watching Butler videos. He is very funny though.
Honestly, really chill guy and tried to make the online lectures more interesting. The class was pretty easy, but I've heard in person versions of 207 are much more intensive.
