What a wonderful Professor to have my first class at OCC with! We haven't even finished the semester yet and I'm totally recommending her. She is so helpful and took so much time out of her schedule to work with me on my writing. I'm so thankful for her help and can't wait to take her again in English 2!
This is my 3rd semester at OCC and Dr. Stout is my favorite professor I've had so far! She's so down to earth and I love her accent! She's always gone out of her way to help me with any questions I've had. Can't recommend her enough!
always accessible outside class, very freshman friendly and offers lots of help and feedback. great taste in dank memes and makes english fun for the first time in a long time. also, cool british accent
Awesome Professor! This was the most fun I've had in any English class ever and I learned so much. Also very willing to help with my writing outside of class. I was a garbage writer when I came in and now I'm getting A's on all my essays in other classes. You're so missing out if you don't take her class!
Not the easiest professor but you will learn so much from her class about writing. I've actually had to help my friends in other 151 classes bc their teachers don't teach them everything Prof Stout does. She's one of the nicest professors ever and always willing to help her students out
favorite professor this semester who actually made me look forward to coming to a morning class. She explained exactly what I needed to do in my essays and was so much more helpful than my 151 professor. Definitely take her if you get the chance because her classes fill up quick!
I hated English going in and she actually managed to make it fun. Great readings and her lectures were always entertaining. Can't wait to take her again for Shakespeare next semester
I only knew how to write at a high school level coming in to this class and Prof Stout helped to elevate it to a collegiate level. Always went out of her way to help whenever I had a question.
super helpful professor who is always willing to help! you can tell she really cares about her students
Best Professor I've had at OCC by far. Super friendly and relatable. Boy does she know her stuff too! She could recite many of the texts we read by heart !
Prof Stout is easily my favorite professor this semester. She gives sooo much feedback on your writing and really tries to help you improve, and she's even willing to meet with you outside of class to discuss essays in advance. Super entertaining lectures too and has actually made me want to read more now. Love this class!!
By far and away my favorite class and Professor this semester. I was a bit worried about an entire class on Shakespeare but I've had so much fun and learned so much. Definitely take this class if you get a chance!
Professor Stout is by far the best choice of Professor for teaching Shakespeare. She is a passionate Professor who is always willing to help. I wish I had found her sooner, best ENGL Prof at OCC. Students will learn so much and improve their writing skills. However her class does require some effort and reading, she does not give unnecessary work.
Professor Stout is the best professor I have ever had. Her work is not bad at all, and she makes learning fun and easy, but effort still must be shown. I would take any class she taught!
I absolutely adore this professor. She is hilarious and brings the entire class together. By the end of the semester, I was comfortable with every person there despite being pretty introverted. She is great at what she does and as long as you are willing to put in an average amount of effort to work and learn, you will get an A in the class.
Prof. Stout is a wonderful Professor. Her Shakespeare course was fun, insightful, educational and well taught. Don't skip and you'll be fine. Just be ready to use your brain. That's it.
Professor Stout was my online professor this semester and she was wonderful! She answered my questions quickly & even provided feedback for all of my essays before I submitted them. She invites her online students to come and visit her in her office or call her on the phone for help too!
Prof Stout is my favorite Professor I've had at OCC so far. She was So helpful this semester and helped me improve my writing so much. The time she took out to help me was more than all my other Professors combined. I can't wait to take her again for 152!!
Professor Stout is an exceptional teacher. She truly enjoys what she does and cares for her students. She is funny, understanding, logical (in terms of the work she requires) and fair. Though this class was merely a requirement for me, I honestly took a lot from it. She made what some might consider a dry subject quite funny and relative.
Professor Stout's class was so much fun that I honestly wished it was longer than 5 weeks! She took the time to sit down with each of us individually to help us improve our writing. She's really passionate about what she does and I can't wait to take her again for 152!
One of the best online Profs I've had. She was super quick with feedback and always had useful tips about how to improve my writing. Would recommend her to anyone
I had Professor Stout for 2 classes this summer and she is WONDERFUL! If you get a chance, take her class
Super relatable Professor who is extremely knowledgeable about what she teaches. She knows the works by heart and always gives great advice about writing technique and sources. Would definitely take her again
Best ENGL professor at OCC. She cares about your work. She actually wants to work with you to help you become a better student. I will be taking her again in the fall!
Professor Stout is one of the most amazing professors at OCC. I am not very good at English and she helped me tremendously! Put in the effort and hard work, you will do great! Take her feedback in to account for your papers and she will improve the way you write so much! Take her! Work hard!
This class was a requirement for me but I'm glad I took it with Prof Stout. She made what we read interesting and fun. Don't like to read much but walked away with a few new authors I actually enjoyed learning about.
The class feels long and the activities you do are not interesting. I wish the class could be more about the discusisons and less led by the teacher. I did not enjoy this class. Lots of things were unclear to me and I did not feel ok asking for help
Gives great feedback. Fun, witty teacher will make you think.
Proff Stout is probably my favorite professor at OCC. I don't think I've ever enjoyed or learned as much in my other classes here as I have in hers. She finds a way to make literature interesting and fun and she gives great feedback on essays. Definitely take her if you get the chance.
Proff Stout is the best Professor I have had in my University/ College Experience. Its obvious that this is more of a passion to her and not just a job. I remember receiving an email from her sent to the whole class with information on material to help us with our current assignment due. On Easter? That shows its not job a job and she cares!
She was overall a nice professor. She was just a tough professor with grading. I got a 50 on my final paper and I am a A-B student when it comes to writing papers. She is very strict and wants you to be in class at exactly 8am. If you are 5 minutes late you are considered tardy. I wouldnt recommend her to anyone.
My absolute favorite professor. I worked my schedule around her class this semester just so I'm able to take her. If you want to actually learn the language that you speak every day, she gives great feedback. Super caring and understanding. All you have to do is also care and you'll learn a lot and get a good grade in the class.
She is the only professor I have had that shows she cares about the class. She will email you reminders so you cannot miss assignment due dates. She is one of the only professors I've had this semester who made a syllabus on the first day of class and stuck with it the entire time. So caring and personable. She is passionate about what she does.
It is obvious that Professor Stout really wants her students to succeed. She is very organized and sticks to the syllabus all semester. Her passion for English shines through!
Prof. Stout is by far one of the best professors I have ever had. She is knowledgeable and passionate about what she teaches and manages to teach even the most boring of texts in an interesting way. You can really tell she loves her job and may even be a bit overqualified compared to some other professors I've encountered
Gives feedback on essays so you can improve along the way Does not take too long to post grades. A kind professor that won't yell at you or make you feel dumb Likes doing class discussions The only downside is that she likes doing a lot of group activities which seem pointless, such as peer reviews. Taker her if you want to write better honestly.
I wish there were more professors like professor Stout. I took both Eng1 and Eng 2 with her and it was the best decision. She truly cares about her students and teaches English with passion and drive. Some students think she is a tough grader, but it's only because they are not used to work hard to earn their grades. She motivated and inspired me.
Just very very inconsistant with grading. Be careful. You can follow all the directions and she'll look at the draft and be like oh yeah, this looks good! then get ready for a D. I like to know what i'm being graded on and i was never sure in this class and it's a ton ton ton of group work. Not impressed.
I'm going to start off by saying she's one of the best professors I've ever had. She makes lectures fun and interesting, she cares about her students. Her class is fairly easy, and she has a British accent which is cool. Take her if you can, her classes fill up fast
Professor Stout is an amazing English professor. She has never given a boring lecture, and she keeps most of the students engaged throughout the class. Her grading is very fair, but you must participate in order to get the most out of the literature studied. Overall, great class and great professor.
I did not like or enjoy this class at all! She is an inconsistent grader and whenever I thought i did good it turned out I did horrible to her. I took the class online and was not a fan.
I took her for 255 and she was cool, lots of group work though so if you don't like working with others her classes might not be for you. Otherwise, if you just show up and do the work you'll be fine and probably get an A. She was funny and nice and made the class as painless as possible.
Hardest professor I've had so far at OCC. She acts like this class is upper level, when it is a mandatory class. I've never had in all my years of schooling have a teacher grade the way she does. It is very hard to please her.
She has a very strong passion for English and fairy tales and she is very caring and hilarious. She makes the class very interesting and fun, to the point where it doesn't even feel like you're in class. She also leaves a lot of great feedback on your writing and is there for you if you need help with anything. Best English professor at OCC I had!
If she does not agree with your paper due to her opinion, she will give you a bad grade. She talks about students and staff when they leave the classroom, or walk by.
Professor Stout is amazing! She was so kind and accommodating when we went online in the Spring. I was going through a rough time and she honestly got me through the semester and gave such helpful feedback on my writing.
Honestly a really fun class because she teaches through relaxed discussion and practical examples. Sometimes I had difficulty keeping up but that's just because of poor time management on my part. She was always happy to meet with me to help though and gave tons of feed back on writing! One of my favorite profs
I took this class because it was a degree requirement and wasn't sure I'd like it, but Professor Stout is awesome! I look forward to this class more than any of my others this semester because we always have interesting conversations. professor Stout is approachable and friendly, she always takes time out to help if you need it.
Best Professor ever! Great lectures but participation definitely matters. She was nice and understanding and will take the time to help you. She usually responds pretty quickly if you email her as well. Get ready to do research and read because you'll be doing that a lot in this class. Do your assignments and follow directions and you will be fine.
Pointless class. Get ready to do group work n then more groupwork. U could learn the same amount by sitting in the lounge n asking ur friends questions. Theres very little learning that u didn't know from high school. I like to learn from the teacher not kids my own level. I passed, but sooooooo happy when I got my B n could move on.
This was by far my favorite class I've taken at OCC. Professor Stout is super knowledgeable about literature and we had amazing discussions all semester. By the end, we all felt like a family and no one wanted to leave! Don't leave OCC without taking one of her classes
I had such a difficult time with remote classes but Professor Stout helped get me through it. She always took the time to meet with me outside class and gave me a lot of helpful advice. She is a very caring professor!
Hard pass on this prof. Very very confusing instructions on the essays. The feedback you get is minimal and when you fix what she asks for she takes points off for other things that were never even mentioned. And that's the time when you DO get feedback - most of the time she doesn't give any.
I was worried to take this class because I was never a good writer, but Professor Stout helped me so much that I went on to get better grades in my other classes too! She's not an easy professor, but she teaches very clearly and always helps when you ask.
definitely my least favorite professor, or even teacher, that i've ever had. she treats you like you're stupid if you don't know the answer to something, and she'll expect things of your writing without teaching what those things are. she made us do an outline and plug in full sentences with paragraphs, when an outline is supposed to just be ideas
Prof. Stout is a great professor. Glad I decided to take her for my first English class in quite a few years. She is super helpful, gives great examples, and is always giving great feedback and reminders. She is always available for questions and her lectures are easy to absorb.
I've always wanted to read more of Shakespeare's work, and Professor Stout's class was a great introduction to it. Class is comprised of mostly discussion and she's always interested in our interpretations. This was the only remote class I actually looked forward to because she's a kind, knowledgeable and relatable professor.
She was my favorite professor this semester and made online learning a breeze. She managed to make learning about writing fun and I feel like my essays improved so much after taking her class. I use her outline in every class now and always do well on my essays because of it!
Professor Stout is one of the best professors I have ever had the pleasure of learning from. This is the second class of her's I took! She truly cares about her students and wants them to succeed in any way possible. With online classes, she appreciates vocal participation and using a webcam. She makes the course content engaging and interesting!
I love this professor! Had her for two classes and really felt confident in my writing after. She met with me on Webex so many times outside class for extra help. You can tell she really cares about seeing her students succeed!
I transferred to OCC from Rutgers and Professor Stout has been the only professor here who made me felt like I was getting a university education at a community college. She is thoughtful in terms of how she paces out assignments, and was excited to meet me where I was and give me advanced instruction. She really made me think!
Professor Stout is a real gem. She gives clear instructions and super detailed feedback on your writing. I can't believe how much she helped me in 5 weeks. Hoping I can take another class with her next semester.
I just finished taking Professor Stout's summer five-week course. I wasn't expecting to do so well. Professor Stout will provide feedback on all of the assignments in class. She will give you constructive criticism to help improve your writing. I have learned so much in her English 152, course it is simply amazing.
Professor Stout taught me more about writing in one semester than I learned in four years of high school. She is passionate about her subject, very knowledgeable, and dedicated to seeing her students succeed. I loved her lectures and she never failed to make English actually interesting. I recommend her classes to everyone I know.
Hard pass on this one. Outlines are impossible to get right and she takes points off for stuff she doesnt teach. Could not wait for class to be over n group work was waaaay too much.
Professor Stout's manner of teaching through relaxed class discussions was refreshing. She was always available to help when I needed extra guidance with my essays, and I'm happy to report her helpful advice helped to raise my essay grades in other classes as well. Just a lovely and dedicated professor who I've recommended to all of my friends!
She can seem a bit harsh at first glance, but it's just because she is no-nonsense and wants to see her students do well. Engaging meaningfully in discussions and exercises can get you a significant amount of points. She does pick apart the rough essays thoroughly, but she lets you know exactly what needs to be reworked for the final draft.
Yea no. She takes her job way too seriously. Had to take this class for my BSN and barely got a C. I'm not too great at English to begin with but have always been told I write well. Essays are impossible to get right and she completely destroyed my confidence in my writing. Wouldn't recommend that feeling to my worst enemy.
I write this review as we wrap up the semester. Professor Stout is a great professor. Attendance was not counted towards your grade, HOWEVER, there is almost a participation grade given every session. It is important to be in class. She gives amazing feedback and is very understanding. I retook her for Eng2
At first, Professor Stout is very intimidating. When it comes to essays, she leaves a lot of feedback and annotations that will make you feel like the worst writer in the world, but she is shockingly not a tough grader. Highly suggest sending every essay to the writing center for 5 extra credit points on each essay. She's British too. Take her!!
I've never had a great experience with English before, but Stout's class was helpful because she gave us tons of feedback and tips. You can tell she really cares about her students and wants to see them succeed. If you're a serious student that wants to get better at writing take her class. If you just want an easy pass, I suggest not taking it.
Prof. Stout is one of the most personable and caring professors I've met at OCC. She took time each week to meet with me and help guide me through improving my academic writing and the transfer process. With her mentorship, I went from being an aimless college student to receiving a full-ride scholarship to my dream school. Thank you so much!!
Professor Stout lets you know what she expects in the essays she assigns as she goes over all the key points in class and even offers extra credit if you go to the writing center. There are a total of 2 essays and 1 final group project. She is understanding and willing to help her students in any way.
Professor Stout is not a bad teacher but she expects too much from students just coming out of high school
I do not recommend taking her in your first year of English, she is definitely a tough grader. When receiving corrections from her they can be vague.Talks too much about her personal life, sometimes gets off topic as well.
I had no idea what I'd learned in high school about writing wasn't really preparing me for what I needed to know in college. I feel fortunate to have taken Prof. Stout's class though. She's worked with me every step of the way to make sure I'm prepared for the future and I can't wait to take ENGL-152 with her next semester!
Had a great time in this class reading Fight Club which actually made love reading again. A lot of what we read is still relevant today and not boring like the stuff forced on us in high school. We had 2 solo essays and a group project, which was manageable. Just don't use AI or cheat because she is tech savvy and will catch you!!
Professor Stout gives very clear instructions and is always willing to help you elevate your writing style. She does have high expectations but they are by no means unobtainable. I thoroughly enjoyed her in-class lectures and found the assignments exciting and challenging. Be prepared to elevate your writing style!
Im not even half way through the semester, but I already know how I feel about this Professor. Let me explain, she is incredibly smart, and will give you the best feedback you need. BUT, she comes off incredibly rude. She makes you feel incredibly low on yourself at points, and when asking questions be careful, she will call you out on it.
I've never really enjoyed reading because school beat that love out of me at a young age. Prof. Stout is different though. She chooses exciting and fun texts for discussion that also have a deeper meaning I could relate to. I really appreciate all the time she took to help me with my writing. One of the few professors at OCC that really cares.
Prof Stout is by far the BEST professor I've ever had. She's taken so much time to help me during office hours and at random times when I've just dropped by when I needed to talk about life. If you care, she will do what she can to support you and help you get where you want to be. I was about to give up and she reached out and actually cared!
I give Professor Stout a lot of credit for helping me so much this semester. She taught me more in this class than I learned in 4 yrs of high school. I decided to double major in English because of how helpful passionate she was about the subject. Can't thank her enough for caring her when most other professors don't.
Professor Stout is a great professor. She is very willing to assist struggling students and truly cares about the students who show up to class. Her course load is not too intense, and getting a good grade is doable, as she offers group assignments, and works with you throughout your essays. Overall, a great English professor.
I really enjoyed this class with Prof. Stout. She was always kind and helpful when I asked questions or went to her office hours. We had some creative group projects and I learned about some new authors I really ended up liking. Just a fun and relaxed class. And oh yeah, you'll learn something too.
I always looked forward to coming to Professor Stout's class bc she's super chill and made everyone in the class feel comfortable participating. There was never a dull moment and we read some interesting texts like Fight Club. Def take her if you want to have a fun time and actually learn something.
We're only a few weeks into the semester and I already know how I feel about this professor. She's friendly and helpful when I was struggling with what we were reading. Just a lot of fun in class, appreciates our opinions and really makes everyone think. I've not been in a class that was as willing to participate as in hers!
I love Professor Stout's classes so much I took her for 151, 152 & World Lit. Couldn't have had a better time and I appreciated how she genuinely cared about seeing her students succeed. Great Prof - take her, you won't regret it.
Prof. Stout is my favorite professor this semester. Unlike my other classes, I really feel comfortable talking in hers because she takes everyone's opinions seriously and doesn't put people down. Very helpful when I needed extra time and tutoring for my essay. Can't thank her enough for her support during some difficult times in my life.
Classes were fun, and revolved around participation and discussion. she is a great professor and small work load, however she is an extremely picky and tough grader. overall we had a few discussions, 2 journals, 1 essay, and a group presentation.
When I stopped going to my classes after my dad passed away Professor Stout was the only teacher who noticed and reached out to me. If not for her encouragement and help, I would've given up and dropped out. She helped me in more ways than I can say and I even earned an A in the class. She's a really understanding teacher and person.
A friend recommended me to take Stout's class and I'm glad I did. I learned more about writing in her class than I did in high school. She also provides a lot of good feedback and you just need to apply that to improve. She gives extra credit for going to the writing center and events on campus and answers messages quickly.
She can be a tough grader but she also cares a lot and gives extra credit for going to the tutoring center. She has high expectations but with good intentions, she wants to see students do well when they transfer. I was really glad I took her class
Was nervous about taking a Summer class but Professor Stout was great! I was actually surprised how much I learned in a few weeks and feel more confident in my writing because of her help. Also gives extra credit for going to tutoring which is helpful.
Professor Stout is my favorite teacher at OCC. She was so caring and helpful during our study abroad in Switzerland. If you can get on one ofhwr trips do it! It's a really life changing experience!!
I've taken Prof. Stout for 3 classes and this trip to Switzerland was by far my favorite one. It was great learning about outsider vs. traditional art and to explore a new culture. I like that she's so well traveled and knowledgeable and always willing to help when I had questions. Couldn't have had a better experience on a study abroad!
Professor Stout was a great professor but is a tough grader especially on essay's. She won't review your whole essay but if you ask her to review certain parts of it she definitely will. The hardest essay is the first one so I do advise to go to her office hours to get some advice on your essay.
I've taken three classes with Professor Stout and she is by far, my favorite professor I've ever had. She is a tough grader but she takes the time to thoroughly read over your papers and give constructive feedback. It's a pretty chill class; there's a few essays and some small assignments here and there, but it was never a stressful workload.
Stout was the only professor I had who actually stuck ot the class schedule and gave me feedback. Most other profs just gave me grades but she left comments on essays telling you how to improve and then taught you how you can get better. She didn't put up with nonsense but was also very chill at the same time. I respected that.
A big thing you should know if you're taking this professor for the class “Shakespeare” is: YOU DON'T READ THE BOOK IN CLASS. SHE DOESN'T ACTUALLY TEACH ANYTHING IN THIS CLASS. She will put on a Shakespeare movie for the entire class period without talking! She doesn't teach you about terminology like asides, soliloquies, sonnets. She doesn't teach
She doesn't actually teach the class. I never even learned any terminology. We never read together in class if you don't know how to read it she will tell you to just read the English version. Never in a million years should a Shakespeare teacher recommend the ENGLISH TRANSLATION. If I didn't already know that stuff I'd be so lost.
I had to go home and look up everything b/c the class was not actually TAUGHT. There's alot of presuming on the professor's behalf that we know exactly what the lit terms are or how to find them. After i looked stuff up I could figure it out but she doesn't TEACH. She lectures and then grades your paper like ur a professional writer. AVOID! AVOID!
Proff. Stout was my favorite English professor and I had many at oCC. I must've driven her mad with all the times I went to her office but she was also soo patient, and even met with me online when I didn't have a ride. Just super nice and always willing to help explain things. Take her, you won't regret it!
Ok there are some essays in this class but its kinda the whole point of it. Even if I wasn't a huge fan of those I still liked most of the stories we read and Professor Stout made them interesting to talk about. Never felt pressured in her class or like she wasn't accessible. She was super helpful with feedback and made me a more confident writer
Stout's class was great! I had 0 confidence coming into a college writing class as I'd been out of school for a while but she put me at ease and gave me such great feedback. I've never had a teacher invest that much time helping her students, she truly cares about their success. She was also very patient and accommodating with me. Highly recommend!
I would NOT recommend taking her. Her grading style is extremely stringent, expecting work that meets the standards of a professional author. While she requires writing to be in MLA format, she often alters the writing style expectations to suit her personal preferences, which can be confusing. I never received less than a B in writing until her.
Prof. Stout is the utmost, smartest professor I have ever encountered. Her desire for her students' success shows no bounds. Her classes are not for those who lack interest in learning. I wish I could have her teach every single English class of mine moving forward. I wish I didn't have a 350 character limitation, as I have a litany of more to say.
Not my favorite professor. Not bad though.
Stout gives So much feedback on your writing that it seems intimidating at first. But then I started to appreciate it because none of my other professors even bothered to write comments on my assignments. You can tell she really cares about her students and wants to see them succeed. So grateful I took this class!
I would honestly say this professor's lectures and grading is outstanding, yes it can be difficult but I have learned so much from them. They truly are there for you if you need help with the coursework, writing essays or papers. I enjoyed learning about Shakespeare's work, I would definitely take their class again! :)
I was out of school for a few years and was terrified of taking this class. Thankfully Professor Stout was there to help me get re-acclimated to college life. My writing improved drastically in one semester thanks to her help and feedback. Take her for this and every class if you can. Just know they fill up quick!
Professor Stout is tough but fair, pushing students to do their best. The class is challenging, but her caring approach and helpful office hours make a real difference. unstuck study was great for supplementing my studies.
If you have a job I would not take this class. The assignments are due the same day of class, with little to no time to work on them. Depending on the time you take the class, if you work an eight hour shift that day, you aren't getting the work done. If you do take her class, READ THE SYLLABUS EVERYDAY.
TR in person & Man. through a zoom call. I was Man. She tried to engage but the class (peers) would made me dislike the class. There was 5 of us in class, we did not have answers all the time. TR would comment on us 'not reading' when they had 25 students silent. She was a great professor, clear grading, feedback, extra credit for writing center.
Syllabus shows the bare minimum of information for each assignment, along with seeing the assignment in modules. She puts out so much homework that she gets overwhelmed with grading, so instead of grading the work you've worked hard on, she'll just base it off how you act in class no matter how good your work is.
Stout is a caring prof who really tries to help her students. I struggled with the readings and assignments, but she worked with me to help improve my writing. Wish all my teachers were like her!
Professor stout was by far one of the hardest english professors I have ever taken. She Is not helpful what so ever and just tells you to go to the writing center. Her grading is horrible and not consistent. All she says is to read the syllabus!! DO NOT take her!!! Don't put yourself through it.
I couldnt have asked for a better Shakespeare professor than Stout. She knew how to wake everyone up and get them to participate in our discussions even at 8am. She's also super funny and caring, and always made time to help me when I just couldnt with essays.
Prof. Stout was the first teacher that really made me think about the world in ways I didn't even know I could. She's passionate about having her students read banned books in her class, and it was really eye opening to see how great they are and how much they still apply today. Her class blew my mind and I think everyone should take it.
I'm writing this because I am procrastinating doing my current assignments. I took Professor Stout a bit ago for my Shakespeare class and she is my role model. If there is any person that I would want to be, it is her. She is an amazing professor and even still when I write my assignments I think about how she has helped me with my writing.
Great professor for anyone looking to study English or go into an English field as you will definitely learn. With that being said, she is a very difficult professor, so anyone not interested in /studying English will be burdened by the heavy workload of this class. The work you do in this class for an 80 is a 101 in other classes.
I've never had a professor care about thier students as much as Professor Stout does. There were so many times when I just wanted to give up this semester and I even thought about dropping out but she was always there, being my cheerleader. Stout helped me connect the dots and figure out what I was good at and how I could improve. My favorite prof
Professor Stout's class is not a passive class. You have to be active and participate to learn and pass the class. If you struggle with writing, she will work with you to help you improve while grading you fairly. If she sees you have potential, she gently pushes you to unlock it while guiding you. If you do not communicate you will fail, simple as
Took this course thinking it would not be that hard, and it really wasn't. My hardest class at OCC I also received the same ending grade, which shouldn't been the case here. I completed all assignments on time and followed the rubric accordingly and no matter what I couldn't get at least a B on any assignment I submitted for her. Do not recommend.
I was very anxious in this course b/c she would give comments that didn't make much sense to me. She sends students to the writing center instead of offering real help and i went b/c I tried to avoid dealing with her as much as I could. I needed these credits to graduate but I wish I had taken someone-anyone-else.
Professor Stout's class was amazing! She likes students having input on their project topics and I was excited to explore more about Gothic literature. She was always there to help and provide excellent feedback (better than what I get at Stockton) on anything really. She's a laid back professor and you can tell she really cares about her students
I took Prof. Stout for a couple of classes, but my favorite by far was her study abroad class to France. This was my first time traveling outside the US and she made everything easy for us. You could tell both profs really care about their students and want them to learn and experience the world. This trip changed my perspective on so many things!
Going to France with her Humanities class was the first time I had Professor Stout for a teacher and she exceeded my expectations. I appreciate how she complimented the activities we did on the ground with the assignments after we got back. And she made so much time to meet with me and discuss my project. Highly recommend taking her study abroad !
When I decided to take Professor Stout's class, my attitude toward writing was to avoid it at all costs. After taking her class, I not only learned how to write on a college level - I learned to enjoy it. Her expertise, teaching style, assignments, and feedback, make her the ideal professor for anyone looking to make the most of their education.
I do not speak English for a long time but prof Stout has been my angel. She is very patient and helps when I need it, Her feedback is good and helps me know what to work on, She cares a lot about her students
This was the only class I looked forward to this semester. Even if the subject can be dry, like poetry, Stout always found a way to make it entertaining and relate to us. I actually got feedback on my writing this semester (didn't happen in 151) and she helped me improve so much. It was a really good class and I learned a lot. thanks Stout!
Professor Stout was honestly great. I had a rough semester and even when I procrastinated sometimes, she was always really understanding and supportive. She motivated me to keep trying and even offered extra credit (which helped a ton). She made me feel way more confident in my writing. I hope I can take anothre class with her
Very kind teacher! Offers lots of support, like individual help, and gets tutors to stop by sometimes. She gives a lot of thorough feedback so you can see which areas to improve on. Very organized too. Haven't met a professor like her before! Would definitely take again.
