She is a smart professor and does know what she is talking about, but she just lectures by reading off the slides that she posts after class anyways, but there are clicker questions everyday so you have to go to class and sit through a dry lecture of her lecturing right from slides on the board. Sometimes hard to understand too
She is very smart and very kind. You can tell she just wants the best for her students. If you ask her questions she is always happy to help and is accessible outside lecture. She does have an accent but that shouldn't stop you from taking her class, as she does a very good job explaining difficult concepts. I found 142 to be much easier than 141.
You're going to have to study but the book (they give it to you) isn't even worth reading. Lectures won't be super fun but she tells you what you need to know to pass.
I had a very big class so her style of teaching was only because she had 400 students per lecture, she does a great job and telling you what you need to know, and reviewing key concepts
A good teacher. She writes in kind of funny cursive but if you ever ask her a question she will explain the answer clearly.
Prof Kijewska is so nice! She does an excellent job explaining the concepts in lecture classes, and does a thorough job. You don't have to attend class (you can skip up to 3 w/out an excuse) but it's not worth skipping. If you come to class, hw, concepts, & everything else will be super easy. would take this prof again
Great!
She is super sweet and an excellent professor. Makes every concept crystal clear, and as long as you pay attention to and study her lecture slides, you will do great on the exams. (Exam 2 was the hardest in my opinion). You also have other grades, which help. Don't skip class; lectures are SO important! Wonderful prof; would take again!
she may not be the best teacher, but this class is EXTREMELY easy. don't worry about it at all. all you have to do is study learning objectives and the recitation packets before exams and you will get a 4.0.
This class is one of the worst classes I have taken. Half of the material on the exams was barely even mentioned in lecture. She gave us learning objectives before the exam and a majority of them were never even touched on so I had to teach myself. Do not take this class unless you want to spend 20+ hours studying just to get an average grade.
The class was extremely frustrating. While the professor is clearly smart, I frequently found myself questioning her teaching abilities. Information is constantly thrown so fast at you that it becomes difficult to even remember the overarching topic. Ended up doing well in the class solely through constant hours of studying and a tutor.
I had her for CEM 141 and 142 and absolutely loved her lectures. Her lecture slides are enough to study for the exams. Makes the student's practice problems in the class. I encourage to take part in all the in-class activities. The book is not required. Uses Besocratic which can be frustrating at times but I still think it is worth it.
I had her for CEM 141 and she was an awesome teacher. I would definitely recommend going to class and paying attention. Homework is basically participation and really quick, and I didn't need to study very much at all. She's very nice and pretty interesting to listen to.
I had her for CEM 141. She was great. Homework isn't hard at all, and you don't have to study too much for the tests. Highly reccomend.
You can tell she cares about her students and likes to teach the course material. She is very organized and takes her time. She always pauses lecture to ask if there are any questions. The only thing is that you need to go to lecture to get credit for attendance (iclicker questions), but they are beneficial to understanding the material.
You need to go to lectures to participate in iClicker questions and get credit. The material is presented in a very organized way and if you pay attention in lectures and do the exam reviews, you will do well on exams. Handled the transition to online really well, she wanted everyone to succeed and adjusted properly to do so. Very nice person too!
Prof K is very smart and cares about her students success. Although I wouldn't recommend her to anyone who is an auditory learner. Lots of visual examples in class that didn't help me much and would very quickly explain complex concepts. Her class isn't easy, but college isn't easy. Your grade depends on the exams, be ready to study!!!
1. Lectures are the best material to study. 2. Textbook only supplements lecture material. It wasnt useful to me. But it is free. 3. Take notes. Each unit builds on the next. (Watch out for Unit 4!) 4. Do the HW. Shes really kind. While she may not be able to answer all questions in-depth during class, office hours are always available.
Go to lecture, download the slides after lecture and watch recorded videos and take notes on what she says (THIS IS KEY). Go to reciation and look at correct answers after in D2L. All the material said and written down help with quizzes. Don't slack on units all of them connect to each other. Great class, very fun to learn. Ask for help!!!
Great professor, she know what she's teaching and how to teach it. Everything she talks about in lecture is on the quiz, so make sure you take notes on what she says aloud and not just the slides. Didn't use textbook much myself. Homework is helpful as well. She keeps students engaged in lecture's which helped me stay focused much of the semester.
Taken online due to Covid. You have quizzes every few weeks which consists of a short answer portion and a multiple choice. She does have an accent but is easy to understand and follow along with. The final was an optional project which can replace your lowest score. TA's answer a lot of questions and there are lots of office hours for help.
This class overall was fine. Quizzes are hard even when you pay attention in lectures. Never used the textbook. Professor has an accent, but was very understandable. She is very nice, but doesnt do well explaining material in my opinion because it barely relates to quiz material.
I was in the hospital on morphine and she wouldn't give me an extension on a quiz that was available for two days. Even if you go to lectures and do the homework, you're not going to be prepared for the tests. Keep in mind I took the class during COVID and I have heard good things about her before. The homework is easy but the tests are super hard.
If you do the homework and watch lectures you will be fine. Attendance isn't recorded and she posts recorded lectures on d2l. There is an optional final project that replaces your lowest quiz score and a few extra credit homework assignments. Do the work and you will be fine!
She's a very sweet and caring professor, I would love to have another class with her! Make sure to complete all hw assignments and go to office hours (very helpful)! Attend the lectures for sure and review learning objectives for quizzes. The extra credit hw's and optional final project boosted my grade a lot at the end.
Lectures were structured well. During the lectures, she would ask questions and would explain why the answer was what it was. The textbook was free and online, so easy to use. Questions asked in test could be directed straight back to material covered in recitation worksheets and the lectures. Definitely attend recitations. They provide extra help.
Lectures are kind of boring but have to pay attention and keep up or it gets really confusing. There's assigned readings but I didn't do any, just watched the lectures and got a 3.5 so not too bad. There's 6 MC quizzes and 6 SA quizzes throughout the semester, some of which are pretty tough but you can drop one by doing an EC project.
I had Dr. Kijewska for CEM 141 in Fall 2020. She was an excellent professor. She explained the material very well and I understood it pretty well, even with her accent. At first, I had trouble with the class because I was a lazy listener during the lectures. But as I adapted to the class, it got better for me. I managed to make it out with a 4.0.
Amazing prof. Made chemistry easy to understand and made it clear what we needed to know for tests. Very kind and understanding especially during covid times.
I truly never thought Id understand chem but this professor made it so clear and easy to understand. I took this course in the summer so it was accelerated, but she made sure that we understood the topic. Quizzes and final are open book/ open note so taking notes during lecture is def what helped me pass.
She is a queen. Not only is she always is extremely nice and respectful, but also she doesn't give too much homework and makes sure her student get the material through polls.
Her accent was hard to understand at times. Have to attend lectures. Had two quizzes each time, one short answer and the other multiple choice.
Open note tests and quizzes
Switched out of her class after she wrongfully accused me of cheating on an assignment. I talked to her and she refused to look at any proof, wouldnt listen and was simply mean. I switched out of her class and am 4.0 ing the class, take any other prof but her.
Professor Kijewska's lectures move quick and she was sometimes hard to understand. I liked watching her recorded lectures instead of the live ones. There was about 2 homework assignments/ week, 4 graded assignments, and 3 quizzes including the final. You have to work to understand the material and take good notes because the grading can be tough.
This professor was really sweet! However, the lecture material did not really match the material that was on the quizzes. Homework was easy as it was for credit, but the Graded Assignments and Quizzes were more difficult. I felt like she didn't really teach much, and I did a lot of self-teaching throughout the semester.
Dont miss lectures or fall behind, itll be bad. Overall, wasnt a bad class, but it is a self-taught class, with lots of lecture material and LOTS of reading, but quizzes/GAs are open note/book.
Im not particularly a fan of her lectures. Shell go over a topic really quickly, than will come back later to explain it. It personally made me confused. Theres a lot of homework, but she does offer good extra credit.
My lectures were through zoom, but Dr. K is an AMAZING prof and really knows what she's talking about. Lectures are very long, but recordings are available if you need to look back. She takes time to explain things very well and constantly checks to make sure we understand. Homework is graded for participation which was lovely. Quizzes were harder.
please don't use Chegg in this class or all other classes, I wish someone told me this before I viewed the chegg when a friend ask me to do so during the finals. All the answers for the assignment could be found on the lectures. The prof was very nice and caring when you have questions. And it is not a hard class overall if you watch the lecture.
Taking this class online sucked. The lectures were long and boring, the material was pretty hard to ynderstand through zoom.
The best cem professors Ive ever had. Many find her lecture videos boring. however, her lecture videos are so easily explained to where its almost hard to not learn. Shell do a poll quiz during lectures to see if the class understands, if majority doesnt, she explains it again and better. Take her class, you wont regret it.
The professor is probably one of the best and easiest cem professors you will have. She explains things so easy to understand. However, the only thing holding me back from giving a 5/5 rate is because of the TA's. I'm unaware of which ones, but they are extremely difficult graders, more difficult than the professor. The course would be perfect.
It's hard to get very personal with her because her classes are so huge but that's not her fault. She explains content very well and clearly. The TA's do the grading, so any issues with that is on them but it was never an issue for me.
Lectures presented material clearly, participation is encouraged, and there are plenty of opportunities to ask questions. My biggest frustration with the course was the inconsistent grading of the TAs and the ambiguous grading criteria. Dr. Kijewska is a talented lecturer, however, and was always willing to help.
She is super nice and overall a good teacher, but the TA's are really strict on grading and that was ultimately why I didn't get the grade I wanted. Studying is very important or else you won't get a good grade on the exams.
This is a non-bias report. Dr.K is an amazing professor. However, her TAs will butcher the course by being difficult graders. The quizzes are difficult in this course, each question will have 4 or more multiple choice answers being difficult to differentiate since they're similar but a little bit is changed. Graded assignment grading criteria sucks
The TAs are very hard graders when it comes to the graded assignments. She gives amazing lectures and makes the material interesting and tries to keep everyone engaged. She always checks up on the students and tries her best to make sure that everyone understands the material.
Favorite professor!! She cares about her students and will constantly check to make sure everyone is on the same page in lectures. That being said, in order to get a good grade you have to put the time in, study, and ask questions. I took Dr. Kijewska for both CEM 141 and 142, and I will miss not being in her class in the future.
Dr. Kijewska was okay to me. Her HAs were more of the problem than she was, but she still wasn't great. I feel like she either over or under explained everything. Quizzes in this class are hard and the graded assignments are even harder.
Professor Kijewska is a very nice professor to have. She is friendly and easy to talk to. You're required to participate during lectures but it does help keep you engaged. You have two short assignments each week, but you have to study outside of lectures to do well. It is a hard class, but the chem help room is a great resource to use.
I had her for both CEM 141 and CEM 142, and she truly cares about her students and wants them to succeed. However, the transition from an online setting where I was able to get a 4.0, and then to an in-person setting was very difficult. The multiple choice exams are very difficult and you have to study every little thing if you want to succeed.
I loved having Dr. Kijewska for CEM 141. Her lectures are thorough and interesting. The learning objectives of each lecture and the required knowledge for each exam are clear. She is caring and very nice.
This class is just unnecessarily hard for being the lowest level chem course available at MSU. It is the definition of a weeder course. Dr. Kijewska is a fine instructor, the course difficulty isn't her fault. The whole chem department needs an overhaul, but she is a fine instructor and friendly to students when they have questions or concerns.
The structure of the lectures and the course as a whole is super followable and well-thought out. She clearly discusses the expectations from the class and as long as you follow that you'll pass!
Very good lecturer! Going to class is really important though and not getting behind
Chemistry itself is what is the hard part of this course. The professor is great. She wants you to understand the content and goes over how to succeed in the class every day before the lecture. The homework is graded based on effort and is fairly easy and the exams are graded harshly depending on the TA, but overall they're pretty easy.
Do not read the textbook. Only use her slides and the practice tests (almost the same as the actual one). As long as you complete the ALEKS (do it asap trust me), do the homework, and pay attention in class, you will succeed in this class. She is always kind and available outside of class.
She is an amazing professor. She explains stuff clearly and explicitly while trying to connect different knowledge points. She uses an average pace to teach, which gives me enough time to absorb the knowledge. The test is really well designed since we were allowed to have 1 test grade dropped for both MC and short answer questions.
Dr. Kijewska was lovely. She is brilliant and really cares about participation in class so that she can see how well we understood things. This class was difficult for me, but I passed with a decent grade and would honestly take a class again if she was the one teaching it. As long as you pay attention and use help rooms, you literally can't fail.
I didn't think i would do good in chemistry and somehow passed with an A pretty easily, her lectures are very easy to follow if you just print off the notes and follow along, the homework isn't long and always goes along with what you learned. The exams are fair but you have to study a good amount, but don't read the book, got to drop a exam too
She gives boring but very informative lectures, and the class is fairly easy to do well in as long as you focus or have some prior knowledge of the course.
Dr. Kijewska did a great job at explaining content in a way that is easy to understand. There are a lot of easy points in her class, and you can drop one of the exams so it isn't hard to pass. She is an absolute sweetheart and I will be taking another one of her classes next semester.
HW is based off completion and most of class grade is exams/online ALEKS work. That said, most of exam questions are repeated HW/recitation/class activities so if you study you should get an A. Records lectures + gives EC. Love Kijewska + am taking her for CEM 142, highly recommend cause she's a sweetheart even if her class can be tough at times.
Krystyna was the nicest professor I had my first year, she is so caring and willing to help. It was very easy to make a connection with her. If you pay attention in lecture and put in the work to understand the material rather than memorize it, you will easily ace the class.
She is great at giving the information you need and is willing to help in office hours out of class. highly recommend
you guys are LYING. she is not a good professor. she has never explained or written down absolutely anything in our class. please i beg you, do not take her. go for virgina cangelosi, please!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dr. Kijewska is great at lecturing and is really good at getting the point across and making chemistry easy to learn. Attendance is mandatory, and after every class there is a homework assignment.
She is kinda hard to understand due to accent but a good teacher. The class is VERY lecture heavy but you can easily do good in the class if you take good notes and study hard for exams. She is super nice and understanding.
I love chemistry but these lectures were so boring and monotone, I almost fell asleep every lecture.
She is very nice and good at explaining concepts. Do the homework + extra credit, go to class, go to recitation, go to office hours w/ questions, and you get a lot of free easy points. Study for the tests because they are the hardest part by far, but do well on 2 of them and you should be fine for the final.
Each lecture is unbelievably slow, and the professor's monotonous way of speaking does nothing to help. The concepts are explained somewhat thoroughly, but oftentimes it takes a rewatch of the lecture afterwards to properly understand it. Any examples given are extremely basic, and don't do much in the way of helping to explain the concepts.
Exams are really difficult so make sure to really study for them. she doesn't really bother to review 141 material when you need to know it for some material in this class. Class exam averages are quite low. Attendance is mandatory as there are clickers for which you need to get at least 75% of them right each lecture. Take Cangelosi, shes amazing.
Very kind professor, incredibly helpful and Cleary wants her students to do well. Homework is unbelievably easy but the content is of course difficult. Class is hard but she definitely helps with the terror.
The professor seemed like she did not have any interest in the subject material that she was teaching and always seemed condescending towards our class like we were stupid for not understanding the material. The class itself is not too terrible, but it's easy to do somewhat poorly on exams just based on the number of questions and their worth.
Dr. Kijewska is clearly passionate about what she teaches, and wants her students to succeed. She made sure that when students weren't understanding a certain topic to spend additional time going over it. The exams were reasonable for the content, and the homework is incredibly easy.
She definitely cares about her student's success and provides many resources. The first exam is by far the hardest of them all. I never read the textbook and did well in the course. Attendance is mandatory since there are iclicker questions. There is a lot of homework but it is easy and only graded on completion. Very hard to fail this class.
Clear expectations. Lecture heavy, weekly homework, and 4 total exams.. Exams are based off of lectures and readings. The content builds on itself throughout the semester so if you miss a lecture, I recommend going back and watching it - it is hard to catch back up if you fall behind. Study after every lecture and you will do fine.
This professor was horrible. She was super condescending. I had COVID with a doctor's note and she told me to come anyway or take the 0. Not available out of class, not helpful in class, really just a professor who made me cry a lot in a course that I needed support in and never could get.
Dr. Kijewska was great! CEM 141 is super lecture heavy, but she had us do iClicker questions throughout the lecture, and if it seemed like people weren't understanding the questions she would break them down and go through them. She was open to questions and wouldn't judge, there was even an online anonymous form for questions.
This class is not at all difficult thanks to her excellent lectures. Without a doubt I would take this class again. Everything you need to for the exam is in her lectures. Just paying attention and studying guarantees a good grade. I highly recommend asking her question ASAP if confused. She always provided excellent explanations. Love her!
She was a good professor; she knows how to do her job and was always open to answering questions during class and break down IClicker questions that students got wrong. Definitely wasn't an easy class so make sure you do study, and you should be fine.
I received an ADR from her and she would not give it up until I took it to court and got it reversed. Giving a falsely accused student an ADR and having me do all the work just to show that I did not cheat was enough for me to rank her 1 out of 5. I highly recommend switching out of her class if possible. I did not like the way she treated me.
I went to every lecture, did all the homework, went to help room and office hours, and studies 3 weeks in advanced for exams exactly how she asked us to, and I still did terrible on every exam. When I went to her office hours to talk to her about it, she was so rude and condescending. I'm considering a career change because of her
This class was enjoyable. As long as you go to lecture and recitation and pay attention you will do fine. The tests can be tricky so make sure to have a good understanding of the contetn
Attend lectures and do the practice exams.
extremely lecture heavy. goes through slides way too fast. however, if you pay attention and attend recitation you will be fine
All exams are terribly worded and designed to be confusing. Alecs is annoying make sure to do it.
Super nice but she goes way too fast on her slides. The lectures are so important but there is not enough overlap between lecture and exam. It is hard to stay engaged but she explains very thoroughly and is great at answering questions.
This teacher was a tough grader and a poor lecturer. You will have to teach yourself. Additionally, she would make fun of in-class questions and then become upset when no one would raise their hands.
Dr. Kijewska was a fair grader and was accessible outside of class, but she often went through slides a little bit fast and some of the content was difficult to understand. The tests and important assignments are full of trick questions designed to catch the slightest slip-up, which I guess is good sometimes, but it felt excessive for this course.
(Taken Spring 2023) Good lecturer, can sometimes go a little fast but is very nice with clear explanations. Her exams are easy to score high on if you follow along with the material intently. The people who scored poorly didn't study well or didn't care to set time aside to actually learn the material.
She posts Lecture Slide videos so if you need to review these are very helpful, Do your ALEKS as soon as possible! She seems snarky at times, sometimes she'll be like "I can't answer that, but a TA can." with a sarcastic smile. This can be frustrating. She also has an accent that isn't too hard to understand but definitely has you listening closer.
This professor covered very interesting material and is passionate about the things she teaches. She sometimes dumbs-down material if you aren't good at Chemistry (I'm not,) however I had to teach myself a few topics. She often made me feel rushed and seemed passive aggressive to those who didn't understand the material, which made me uncomfortable
If I had a few hours left to live, I would spend it in her lecture. Due to the fact that each lecture seems to last an eternity. She isn't passionate about this content due to the fact that it is work that is below her knowledge level. Would not suggest this class or professor. Pay attention, do the work, and don't forget to study for exams.
Honestly, she was one of the best professors I have ever had for science. Attend lectures (preferably 3 times a week, not 2 since they can feel dragged) and she was very clear on what she grades. The exams felt aunting but when you took them they were not bad. All are based on mock exams and lecture slides which are easy to follow.Take her if u can
Dr. Kijewska gives very good lectures. She explains topics very clearly and she seems to enjoy teaching the class. she could do slightly better with pacing during the lectures as it sometimes the end of the lectures feel rushed.
I think the lecture is way too info heavy and we move past things way too fast. There's no time to process what you are learning. Sometimes the homework doesn't even match up with what we're learning as well. I know some students think her accent is a little heavy and makes it difficult to understand, so be aware of that.
This class is a lot of very general content all at once. Go to class, get the free points for homework and attendance and go to the help room. My best advice is to never assume you are prepared for exams, and don't wait to go to office hours or ask for help. She is super thorough and willing to help if you ask!
This general chemistry course is very straightforward. The exams are highly dependent on the learning objectives (which students have continuous access to) as the professor mentions numerous times. YOU WILL PASS AS LONG AS YOU ATTEND CLASS, PAY ATTENTION, AND COMPLETE THE RECOMMENDED PRACTICES. The time-commitment is average for a 3-credit course.
Professor Kijewska was a great teacher and all i could have asked for for CEM 141. Attendance is mandatory but she knows her stuff and will make sure that you understand the material.
Dr. Kijewska is an extremely kind, intelligent, and skilled lecturer! She answers questions thoughtfully, and always explains things extremely slowly and intuitively in a way that guarantees everybody in the room understands the content perfectly. She scaffolds her lessons very well, and her kind disposition and passion for teaching are apparent :)
Anyone who has gotten below a B is probably not that bright. The content covered is honestly so easy to understand, the only possible way for you to not get a good grade is by not coming to class. The teacher is also very good and gives extra credit from time to time.
Lectures are super important and are graded for participation. Exams are hard and pull from lots of different sources (textbook, recitation activities, homework, and lectures). Make sure to read the textbook and go to recitations.
I would rather gougue my eyes out and eat them than take this class again. I had reached out multiple times to her with questions via email and gotten no response. She goes through lecture slides very quickly, and as someone that has taken a chem class in HS, I was still very confused. I attended every class and did every assignment and exam.
Dr. Kijewska seems very passionate about the material. She goes a bit fast on the slides, and if you never took chem before in high school, you may struggle to keep up during class. The tests are tough and very detailed, but they match the lecture slides. Haven't read the textbook and I did just fine. Just go to class and study for the exams.
I was so worried going into chemistry as I've never been a science/math person but Kijewska is incredible! I actually really enjoyed her class and she did a great job at presenting the material in a way that helps you to actually understand the concepts and piece it all together. She doesn't give too much homework and has extra credit assignments.
Dr. Kijewska is a tricky little bugger. She is the sweetest human ever but is simply not fit to teach this class. She is a little feisty and appears to not enjoy her job very much. The exams are very difficult and don't even reflect a lot of what we have learned. I would not take her as a teacher again, but she seems like a lovely individual!
There are 4 tests in the entire course and they are worth 60% of your grade, all of which are taken at 7:30 at night or at 6:00 am. She's a brutal grader, a great lady, but getting all of my points taken off for a question because I "Didn't draw an arrow long enough" in a diagram just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Weirdly difficult for a starter.
Most of the lectures are her reading off of the slides and asking questions in relation to the slides, not a bad style but if you prefer more in depth learning I would choose a different professor. Exams are either 6 am or 7 pm ish which can be annoying but overall a very easy course.
Hated being immediately bombarded with Aleks topics but I know she doesn't control that. Be ready to spend a decent amount of time on those topics if you haven't taken chemistry in a while. On a positive note, she seemed genuinely caring but did have her days. Tons of material on lectures so she did go at a very quick pace. 7/10.
This class can take a lot of effort (depending on how well you grasp the subjects). Granted, CEM 141 has many students. So, this course is designed to teach roughly 300 students at a time, making it rather impersonal. SEEK HELP FROM TA'S IF NEEDED! Prof. Kijewska is not bad, but you need to put in hard work too. Her provided checklist was helpful.
She's a great teacher who covers a lot of material in a way that's easy to understand and manageable. She's always available during office hours to help, though sometimes she goes through the slides a bit quickly.
Professor Kijewska is very knowledgeable in chemistry and oozes passion, professionalism. It is important to listen to her closely, and write notes as she's speaking during lectures. If you re-write the lecture jutes in your own way after each lecture and study them for at lest 15 minutes twice a day, you'll be set for the exams.
Dr. K was incredible at explaining topics, very patient, and was easily reached when you needed help.
She was very kind and clearly very knowledgable on the subject. If you take notes and pay attention in the lectures, you will do very well. I really appreciate that there are always multiple TAs walking around the lecture and it feels very easy to ask questions and get quick answers. Overall an enjoyable class.
Professor Kijewska very clearly cares a lot about chemistry. Lecture heavy with iClicker attendance, easy homework after most classes, a few extra credit assignments. If you study the material you'll do well on tests. Easy to get an A if you care to try.
Lectures are easy to follow but she moves fast. Almost everything is graded based on completion.
lectures were engaging, she breaks down the material well and is good at fully answering any questions asked
Lectures are pretty fast-paced, but if you develop a good note-taking system and just write the things said you'll do great. Great explainer, clearly loves chemistry, regularly surveys class with iClicker, then re-covers topics that a lot of people were (anonymously) confused about. There are no trick questions, just pay attention, loved this class
Professor Kijewska's class is challenging but rewarding. Attend lectures and recitations, and use resources like the free textbook and unstuck ai to really grasp the content. The tests are tricky, so stay engaged and you'll do well.
Professor Kijewska has a really strong accent which can be hard to understand. She talks very fast and goes through the lecture slides very fast but there is always a lot of slides with a lot of information to retain. Must study after every class if you want to be on top of the work.
hated this class so much and she made it 1000x harder
When I had a death in the family and arranged grief absence, she gave me so much work to "make up what I missed" which was right before an exam and 2 weeks before the final with a stupidly short due date. I was not told of this until after I came back and saw all the zeros. Next time, I'll ask my sick family members not to die, I guess.
Easy professor. Everything is graded off participation- study for exams and you're fine. Problem is her lack of empathy for students and lectures you that you don't understand the concept, but won't go back and explain it. Also, every. single. iClicker question she says, "Anybody else" in a really annoying way. Easy A, but annoyed every lecture.
she'll often spend the first 20 minutes or so going over homework which sometimes throws off the pacing of the lecture and it can get very fast. i liked that she talked the class through more difficult iclicker questions. homework is very very easy but can sometimes take some time. you definitely need to study for the tests though
In the lectures it seems so easy and simple to understand, and I feel confident I have a grasp on the material. When i get into the exam, it's like it was written for a completely different class. The fact that this class also isn't curved when students tend to get like a 50% on the tests is beyond annoying. Also barely posts any study material.
She's honestly just your average chemistry professor. If you really put in the work and study the objectives and read the textbook, you'll be good. The TAs help answer most of my questions.
I think she's a great professor. She'll spend the first 20ish minutes going over the homework from the night before and then go into the lecture. She does talk and goes through slides fast so make sure to keep up. Also on some days, if you're lucky, she'll let you leave lecture early. There's about 3-4 TAs that are there to answer questions also.
Lectures are fast paced, but if you take good notes, you'll do well. She's clearly very passionate about chemistry and wants students to do well. Exams are difficult, but the class is very organized and gives you plenty of ways to get help if you need it.
Very enthusiastic about teaching and success of her students. Attendance is required and very lecture heavy. Dr. Kijewska can talk fast at sometimes, but is very nice and will go over again. Many hours of studying for this course. Exams are only in the late evening or early mornings.
People rate her badly because they didn't show up or do homework and they're salty about it. She explains things very well, and if you don't understand her there are so many resources available. If you do the bare minimum (so what she tells you to do) you'll get a 4.0. Minimal homework too, just don't cheat on it and you're fine.
You think you know what's going on then you open the exam and you're cooked. Tbh she gives a lot of opportunities to raise grade and I got my A so no worries! Hope this helps.
This professor was reluctant to help students who were confused, wasn't good at explaining the material. I relied on the TA's for help and they were so much better than the actual teacher. I was less than 1% away from a four point because of a grading error and didn't bother to round it up. She's a little rude, if you have her ask the TAs for help
Prof. Kijewska is an incredible teacher! Very knowledgeable w/ chemistry, explains concepts very well. Willing to explain things in detail. There's homework, recitations, EC, and exams. Prof uses iClicker for points, but the concepts help you learn more. Class is easy if you know how to apply concepts instead of memorizing facts. Dr. K is so great!
Chemistry is like math, you have to try in it. I thought gen chem was fine as long as you understand what is going on and study. One of the exams can be replaced by your final score in case you do terribly or miss an exam. I missed one due to an ER visit lol but it ended up working out due to this. Study after each class.
I found this class to be paced well with the professor not wasting any time during lectures. She provided ample practice activities that helped with learning. Some mandatory aspects of the course felt pointless and a waste of time that could have been spent studying and some exam questions were too vague for chem. Decent, but could be better.
Prof Kijewska is super patient and caring with her students, even when course material can be overwhelming. She is always willing to go through and explain things during lecture and it makes learning super easy.
Super nice professor, some people can't get past her accent but she was super nice and her lectures were straight forward. She's a good teacher and her TAs/ULAs are amazing and super helpful during lecture. Attendance for credit is annoying but all of her lectures are recorded and up to date if you happen to miss any of them.
Finish the ALEKS 100% before the deadline and the class should be a decently easy pass. Not super accommodating past the allotted absences so save them for emergencies. Lectures were actually helpful and I highly recommend going, even if you don't have to. If you survived AP Chem, it's basically a guaranteed 2.0. Chemistry is awful, she's great!
Amazing lectures, super great at explaining concepts and makes sure class understands topics before moving on. Super kind and helpful if you ask for help.
Goes a little fast in lectures but posts them after so you can go back and fill in your notes if you missed anything. You have to pay attention in class but if you do it's pretty easy to follow along. The exams will be hard. Study, study, study. If you put in effort, you will do fine.
Prof K as a prof is good. She tells you how to succeed. My only issues are with the class. The material is pretty straightforward in class and on homework, but the exams are just stupid. Very unclear in the wording, makes me think this is a weeder class.
The lectures end up being very short because she spends a large amount of time at the beginning of class reviewing homework and restating prior lessons. Usually the concepts are simple to grasp and the homework is easy
With iClicker attendance only being 5% of the final grade, I found it easier to simply watch the lecture videos on 3x outside of class, as she moves very slowly. This class has many resources to help you succeed, should be easy 3-4.0
She is the sweetest, she records lectures and tells you exactly what is needed to pass. Unfortunately for me I will be retaking this class by no fault of hers. You need to pay attention and study everyday, this class it is very important to understand everything you are learning.
She is a very kind and passionate professor. Her class is very well organized and her lectures are very easy to grasp. I didn't feel the need to study and aced the exams (though everyone is different!). Attendance is mandatory though and is done through iclicker so make sure that your iclicker is reliable (unlike mine).
I think that chemistry is seen as a difficult topic to begin with and this professor made is much easier than without her! No matter which professor you have this class is going to require you to study but she gave us amazing resources and outlined things to know for the exam.I am actually taking her next semester!
She was fine. I think the class is fair. I have never taken chemistry before, and I did good, if you try youll be fine.
She talks extremely fast and goes through the lecture slides before you can get the information down. The practice exams given are not very helpful. Take detailed notes and spend every day outside of class reviewing notes and you'll be fine.
she isnt as bad as people make her out to be. when she says anyone else for the iclicker questions its a little annoying but you get used to it
I hate CEM 141. I can't understand anything my professor tries to teach us. I thought I just didn't understand chemistry, but when a fill-in professor taught us during our professor's absences, I understood so much better. Try to avoid her.
This class was super easy to pass if you put in the work! She explains things well, but you do have to study a little outside of class, but tests are very fair. She is a caring professor and I def recommend.
missing a day of lecture can set you really far behind. The CLUE online textbook was very easy to follow, and a quick read once you know what you're supposed to be reading. (you can skip a lot of the examples and equation stuff shown, it gets repetitive with the lecture notes)
Lectures=life. lectures quick and doesn't waste time, stay awake and alert. study after each lecture- and do all homework (quite a lot) do practice exams, show up to class, go to recitation and you'll be fine. textbook is easy to read and connects. besocratic was annoying, but was graded and ec opportunities were given.
The one piece of advice I would give for this class is to listen to her when she tells you to study after every single lecture. This is a very difficult course and there is a lot of information you have to learn. Looking back on the BeSocratic assignments and the recitation activities is also very helpful before exams.
cem 141 is a course with LOTS of material to cover. I liked this course, but she may have to rush through a few lectures because of how little time she has. She records all of her lectures, so it definitely helps to go back and watch them and take notes for anything you missed. If you pay attention, and study every day I promise you will be fine.
Dr Kijewska was very caring and understanding but exams were so much harder than lectures, the lectures only briefly mentioned a topic and there would be a question on the exam way more difficult than we ever discussed, there was a lot of material to be covered but slides were just read off of. Don't take it with her if you can't learn self taught.
This class is so hard and it's very exam heavy. The professor has an accent so it's really hard to understand her. She's really nice though.
She's really nice, but the class is so large that you won't interact with her much.
She was very articulate and good at explaining everything in lecture very well. The slides were very accessible and easy to follow along with in class. She also recorded each of her lectures so you could go back and watch them if you missed class. The only downside was iClicker.
It's a miracle I got a B in this class. It made me miserable and I hated going but attendance is mandatory and I needed every point I could get. Set up reminders for the homework, there is LOTS of it (it's easy and graded by completion.) Unfortunately i've heard bad things about the other MSU Chem teachers so good luck.
If you pay attention and study outside of class, you'll be absolutely fine. She clearly cares about her students' success. There are extra credit opportunities and your final grade replaces your lowest exam if beneficial. All the people that hate her just didn't try, its easy if you read the textbook and do the homework, which a reasonable amount.
