Such a great prof he really got me interested in philosophy, very clear!

I found him very unclear and I had difficulty learning from him.
Hard to understand at first, but give him a chance. Very clear on what is on exams. Very easy course, very easy material, very easy instructor. A perfect 'fluff' course. My first 'A'.
He is a great teacher. He will answer any questions you have in a respectful and helpful manner. He also makes sure you are prepared for all exams and throws no surprises at you.
Once you get past the accent, he's very clear and concise. Great teacher. Very smart and loves what he does. Very casual (ie always late), enjoyable, etc. Listen to how he says 'Immanuel Kant'. Then laugh. Repeat.
Really nice guy, he may be a little difficult to understand (Russian Accent) But really good prof. Really well educated (Taught in many different countries). He makes a boring subject really fun, Be forewarned he is a little picky with marking on exams, but he marks fairly. I would HIGHLY reccommend Prof. K. Swiatek to ANYONE interested in phil 102
He is a wee bit odd, but very intelligent and a good prof. Always clear about what is on exams and provides frequent assignments which help you see how you are doing.
Very interesting and intelligent but his notes are a bit disorganized.
You expect this prof to be pretentious, but he's not. Very helpful/approachable/funny, not arrogant in the least. Fair marker, class is intimidating at first but don't worry, he doesn't expect too much from first year students. Don't miss this class. Only con is that his notes are disorganized, he should get acquainted w/ Power Point.
Probably the weirdest human being I have ever met. He's an average teacher at best.
I don't know what it is about this class, but I just can't seem to get a good grade. I study, I show up for every class, I pay attention... I get better grades in the classes I DON'T study for. Really sweet guy, really intelligent, but something doesn't click.
He is quite helpful and certainly knows what he is talking about. How will this translate to you? As usual, it helps going into his class with some interest. His notes are at times unorganized, but you should be more than capable to study off of them.
Terribly boring class. Hard not to fall asleep. Way too many notes in class Nice guy...throws a joke in every once in a while but he's a hard marker.
Cool, cool guy, really layed back (missed a couple classes, always late) but quite alot of notes and tough to do well in this class. He brings up the marks on the essay so you can kill it. Tests are tough and you have to study quite a bit to do well. Actually knows what he's doing and you'll learn a ton.
Class was on the difficult side. Really nice guy though, but the laziest person I have ever met. He didn't even mark our term papers until after the final!! Always late to class, sometimes he just skipped them.
Overall, a good teacher, tends to get a bit rambly at times. Easy going though.
Nice guy, easy to debate with. Hard to understand (he has a strong accent) so I tried to sit in front row. BIG mistake, he has some really bad breath. But overall nice guy, learned a lot although I had to study a lot. Tests are short answer, usually like 4 questions, so if you get one wrong you're screwed.
He is a a good prof and is passionate about what he teaches, but very hard to understand because of his accent, and therefore *yawn*.. boring. I thought I would enjoy this class but my level of interest in it was very low!! The tests were really easy. We didn't debate at all in it. It was a breeze to get through, but still boring!
Interesting vocabulary. Take and memorize his notes and that's all you need. The accent throws some people but you'll get used to it after a few minutes.
knows the contents of the course. however, he is a hard marker and doesnt allow room for arguement(even in a phil course)
Hey is awesome! seriously the guy is a philosophy genious...not to tout my horn but im a pretty big deal in philosophy and this guy blows me out of the water...furthermore he teaches you over and above the requirements of 102 which is great if you plan on pursuing philosophy. He accent is hard at first but when you get used to its no big deal..
I thought I would enjoy this class, but I was quite mistaken. I found that the questions he asked on exams were often quite vague, but in marking, he basically expected us to retell what he had taught us verbatum...which often made no sence. His style of teaching was incrediblty frustrating, and he mixed up dates and deadlines several times.
WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT TAKE HIS COURSE unless u like to read ur whole text book and make sense of what he is taking about in class, if u can understand his accent ofcourse. really nice guy, but BAD prof.!!!
Read the text book, if you don't, you will fail. If you have the same sense of humour, then you are home free. Basically, show up and write down everything because he will want you to recite it verbatum on the exams.
Once you get used to the accent and the incredibly illegible notes he is not a bad guy. However the chance of actually having a discussion in class is low (it's a ohilosophy class). Its pretty mandatory to be able to repeat what he said in class for tests.
Not a bad guy, but he can be a bit hard to follow if you haven't done the textbook readings before hand. A bit unclear about what his exams will be like, but explains all problems so you learn from them.
this is, hands down the worst teacher i have ever had. its so hard to understand him because of his accent and he writes waay too many notes and they are so hard to read cuz his writing looks like scribbles when i copy them off the board im unsure of what every other word even says.
I don't know why this prof is getting such bad ratings, this class is so easy even if you don't pay attention in class just read your text book. He's late for pretty much every class, his cell phones goes off more times than any students did in the semester, and he says the funniest things. Midterms are easy 4 questions pick 3
He gets the OK stamp. He's got a wonderful sense of humour and he tries really, really hard to be there for his students which is wonderful. Expetations are a bit unclear sometimes, but all in all I'd say he's decent instructor who makes difficult material easier to comprehend. DEFINITELY read the book or his notes won't make sense though!
He is a good guy. Late every day. I have had him fir three classes and it is very easy if you read the text book. No opportunity for discussion though. He is very funny. Don't take this class if you cannot stimulate yourself intellectually though, because he will not change your life. Tests are 4 essay questions, pick 3. So easy, study material.
I love this man! he is actually hilarious. his mid terms are decent, study his notes.. the text book is some what useless... i only read the explanations if his notes are unclear.this year he started using BB YAY! he is hilarious and asks lots of questions. easy pass if you are competent and show up to class
Although ethics is typically a really boring and dry topic, Kryzstof adds occasional humor to keep us interested.
He makes class really fun (and funny). I'd planned on dropping the class until I attended class and I enjoyed his lectures so much! The class itself is very hard, I do the same amount of work for this class as I do for my others and I'm fighting for a pass in this class. I like when he writes notes on the board cause he goes very quickly.
Interesting sense of humor. He talks a bit fast but he's pretty good otherwise. Hated the multiple choice format though- often you'd have the right answer and circle the wrong space because you get confused so easily! Plus his way of reviewing exams didn't really help much.
Good prof, take his class. Explains really good, all his quizzes and also the final exam are multiple choice. I really enjoyed his class.
Nice person but he is by far the worst instructor I have had at Macewan. This is the most pointless class it is so unfortunate that this is one of the options to fulfill the analytical studies portion of your BA if you want to avoid math. This class makes no sense his exams suck he is so monotoned he puts you to sleep and it is absolutely pointless
He definitely knows his stuff about philosophy, and knows how to make it enjoyable! I highly recommend him. Just be sure to show up for class and take his notes, they're really clear and they are what you need to focus on for the exams.
Great guy with a sense of humor. Can be very hard to understand at times due to his accent and talking so fast. His midterms were always long answer (choose 4/5). Final was identical but longer. He's a pretty fair marker. I probably wouldn't take his class again but it sure beats doing math to fulfill the BA core. Must study if you want to do well.
I loved this man. He is seriously hilarious and so engaging! He is very clear on his expectations although for exams he instructs students to "know everything that we have covered", final is cumulative and ALL written. thick accent but hilarious, like i said before, I LOVED him, take him if you can!
I had him previously for phil 125 and was super excited to have him again for Phil 102. Very Intelligent and also funny. He does tend to have bad notes and talk to the class as if they're taking a 400 level course. Nonetheless great prof who actually asks the students for their opinions on the subject, highly unheard of in other phil classes.
Good guy, but you'll have to make sure to read the textbook to properly follow along. Read sections prior to class, take notes in class, then go back and add to notes from textbook and practice using examples in the textbook. If you do that you're sure to do great. This is not a class for discussion, it's almost like math.
Good guy, Krys loves his work and it shows. Clarity was an issue at times; he does not speak colloquially so his class becomes an exercise in vocabulary in many cases. He is accessible and fair, thx Mr. Swiatek!
All men are mortal. Socrates is a man. Therefore Socrates is a normal. (Know this and you will pass the course). Also when he pronounces "Theory" it sounds like "Fuhrer." Overall pretty good prof.
All men are mortal. Socrates is a man. Therefore Socrates is a mortal. (Know this and you will pass the course). Also when he pronounces "Theory" it sounds like "Fuhrer." Overall pretty good prof.
I had taken a class with him previously so I was looking forward to this Logic class. The only issue I had with him was clarity at times but overall he is a good teacher. He knows his material and has a very peculiar but hilarious humor. The class is a bit tough but I found going to his lectures really helped (how odd :P) his examples are often fun
Hard to understand and his notes are illegible, but if you actually pay attention in class he is a funny guy. Make sure you do the readings. I would never take a class with him again, he marks very hard.
He's a really funny guy, and really knows what he's talking about, but if you don't pay attention, you're pretty much pooched. If you have issues and talk to him, he's very helpful.
The course itself is very complex. Don't take it if you aren't willing to show up to every class. That said, if you just show up to class and take notes, you'll pass. He's so helpful in his office hours and is always quite funny in his lectures. You get what you put into this course. Great prof overall.
Very dry and boring course that shouldent be and it is because of him. he is a difficult marker his notes are useless and if you miss what he says because of his accent you are screwed. i would not ever take a course from him again.
Very good professor; if you are willing to put the work in, you will do astoundingly. He is very helpful... even though the ideas were somewhat complex. Anyone who rates poorly most likely has issues in understanding the complex thoughts... he's an intellectuals dream prof.
I was nervous about the analytical nature of this course but prof. Swiatek was so helpful. All the concepts tend to build on one another so you have to go to class and make sure you understand. His sense of humor and overall personality is very endearing, by the end of the term I loved this class!
This course was quite interesting. Kryzstof was very funny and clearly enjoys teaching very much. If you show up to class and do the online assignments you are guaranteed to pass.
Swiatek was very passionate about Philosophy although he chose very challenging material for first year and his Polish accent was thick at times. Don't just read the material, understand it and be able to write in depth about it.
Professor Swiatek is very clear and very concise. His concision makes the material very accessible. He has a subtle sense of humour that makes the course fun.
Really good prof! Do exercises from the text and go to class. If you enjoy math this course is easy.
Very kind and intelligent instructor. He thoroughly explains concepts and works very hard to engage students. Wrote a short essay, a paper (which was a reading response) and did a presentation and a final paper on a hollywood movie. He can be a hard marker, as he really wants a clear and well presented argument. Textbook was a lot of reading.
Great guy, Not the best topic to be teaching, hopefully next semester will be better, with a different topic..
Really did not enjoy this class. I found it very hard to follow what he was writing down in class, but wrote everything down nonetheless just so I could go home and teach myself. Aplia (online portion) taught me more than him, I'm sorry to say. Also, lectures are grueling + he won't dare let you out even a minute early. Would not recommend.
He's a very nice guy. But it's hard to follow along with his lectures, not just because of his accent but how he words what he is saying. He needs to speak in a more direct way
I've had Professor Swiatek for two courses (102125) I originally took PHIL 125 from another prof and had to drop it because it was so confusing. PHIL 125 can be confusing, but Swiatek is definitely the best at explaining it. He's funny and you can tell that he enjoys teaching the class. Awesome prof, and the best prof you can take this class with.
The professor really tries to help you understand the material, but this class was just not for me. VERY LONG aplia quizzes (some out of 1100). A few in class quizzes, and a couple assignments. He's a sweetheart and means well. I just hated the class material. He's absolutely hilarious though. Accent too.
There are about 10,000 online Aplia quizzes, but they are mandatory to learn the content. The lectures are not clear unless you have pre-read the chapters or done Aplia. This class is so useless as it does't actually count as a philosophy; just take stats instead.
So many online assignments, but didn't need to study or read the book (or attend class really) because the online assignments are so thorough. Teacher is hilarious; only reason I attended the lecture was because he's funny. He clearly enjoys the topic and is good at teaching.
He's a nice and funny guy, just reserved with a more deadpan sense of humor. If you complete the online quizzes (which there a lot of) ahead of time, then attendance isn't necessary, but notes aren't posted online, so you might be missing out slightly. In PHIL 125, handwriting notes will be more helpful later on, as there are a lot of drawings.
Avoid at all costs! Absolutely atrocious prof his accent is brutal to understand and writing looks like scribbles on the board that you have to ask multiple times for him to reread because they are illegible. Lectures are extremely dry and puts you to sleep easily. His tests are difficult and the class is pointless with no relation to real life.
Tbh, I had no idea what I was getting into with this class. The concepts alone are pretty difficult to wrap your head around, if you don't have a VERY clear understanding from the start, this class will be very hard for you. Online quizzes are helpful but overwhelming (marked out of 1000?!) He's a great prof, but doesn't make this class easy at all
This class is literally the hardest thing I have ever done. As a prof he tries really hard but is often confusing. He does not have power points and his writing is very difficult to read. Get ready for thousands of A plus questions every 2 weeks, they literally took me 6 hours at a time. He also has a pretty thick accent.
He seems very nice but this class was the most convoluted experience of my life. I think in a different subject he might be great but for this one it was just far too confusing especially since he writes everything on the board and it is very hard to read his writing. overall, I would not recommend
PHIL 125 is a very difficult course and I would not recommend it but if you have to take it Swiatek is a solid choice for prof. You can tell he is very passionate and his lecture are often filled with humour. The class is the hardest thing I have ever done but he was great.
Honestly a super hard class but it was very fascinating and enjoyable, funny prof, thick accent but he always clarifies when asked, must attend class! and lots of online quizzes but they are easy and help you prepare for exams
Thousands of mandatory Aplia Quizzes.. . Literally the worst experience. He seems cool but he taught the material in a very confusing manner.
Unbelievably confusing course and feedback. Was not helpful to explain concepts in a simple manner. Very few positive things to say about my work.
The course itself was hard, but Swiatek does a pretty decent job at teaching what needs to be taught. I really recommend reading the textbook before his lectures to feel more prepared, as he can only cover so much in 50 min class (and the textbook explains things WAY more in depth). Overall, he doesn't hesitate to help if you ask!
The course itself is hard, but he always makes sure everyone is on the same page by covering the basics everytime class starts. I found that he was pretty generous with marking take-home assignments for this course... gave me a couple points even tho i didn't deserve it. Very friendly if u approach him with any questions! and BUY THE TXBOOK 4 SURE!
This class is absolutely awful. The material is confusing to start with, but prof. Swiatek doesn't help at all. He rushes through the most confusing topics and he barely explains anything. His handwriting is illegible so good luck taking notes. A lot of students in the class barely passed the first quiz because it was confusing and poorly written.
My favourite class in university was phil125 with him
There were so many Aplia quizzes and the questions were sometimes really confusing/difficult, overall it was a difficult course but he is a great prof. I'd take him again despite it being hard work, his personality and humor makes it worth it.
This is ridiculous for an intro class. One lecture a month. It was supposed to be M-W-F but you will end up doing mindtap on Tuesdays, Thursdays and the occasional weekends too. Often 5 assignments due a day and one assignment can exceed 30-40 questions. Each assignment is worth 0.2%. You do 171 of these. Way too many, its mindnumbing 2hrs+ a day
This is the worst class EVER. PHIL125 was good but the 210-symbolic logic class is GARBAGE. Assignments are extremely hard, unexplained, and made available less than a week from the due date (we were supposed to have two weeks). I'm now going to receive my record lowest mark from a PHIL class of all things. DO. NOT. TAKE. PHIL210 w/ SWIATEK.
If you are interested in this class and feel you can learn all the material on your own, then you should not have much difficulty with this class. If you think you'll need a professor to walk you through it, then you shouldn't take this class with Krystof.
Kristoff is an awesome Prof. The course is a bit dry but he made it great. I would take another class with him
The material in this class was really difficult but relatively enjoyable once you get the hang of it. Though if you end up having to take this online make sure you're prepared to do all of the work yourself with little to no direction.
This course is homework heavy, and you must be able to read ALOT. I put aside many hours for this course but it was completely doable. Although Swiatek was available out of class, it was mostly self taught. He is understandable and did mark us on two assignments, but I personally found his feedback a bit confusing. But he is nice and accomodating.
The lectures were extremely boring as he talks and rambles about deep philosophical concepts with no explanations. It was a morning class so you could tell he was tired with no enthusiasm. He did not know how to use BB very well and the organization and class material was sloppy. No personal connection, 99% robotic, nice guy.
Nice guy, but incredibly disorganized. Misses lectures on short notice, and then posts recorded lectures at like 10pm and expects you to watch them before the next class. Rambles a lot during class with no explanations. Made an assignment due during reading week.
Asynchronous class, very heavy with textbook reading. No clear direction on how to properly do assignments or feedback.
He was a nice guy and easy to contact outside of class but the course structure on blackboard was really disorganized. His lectures are interesting but you have to pay attention or else they will make no sense. Every assignment was written but got little to no feedback making it hard to improve. Work was also marked weeks after its due date.
this prof assigns way too many assignments, 2-4 assignments everyday even on days we do not have class. and he assigns them on weekends and reading week...not impressed and would really love a break..
Don't take this class if you have a life. Homework is due EVERYDAY, including reading week. Lectures hardly help, not good at simplifying difficult concepts. Unwilling to make up for loss time if he cancels class, no study guide or prep for finals. Not good for first years, is like a slap in the face.
Way too many assignments due in one day, no time to catch up so it usually leaves you with 3-5 assignments due everyday. He seems nice but, there is way too much expectation on how much work you have to do. Would never take again and am debating dropping the class. I do not have enough time to do about 100 questions of homework every single day.
Have to do assignments at least 3 times a week. It will say its grades out of 10 but there's anywhere from 10-60 questions per assignment. Only had two things to grade by hand the entire semester yet took over a month for the first assignment to get back and the second didn't even get back before the final exam. Do not recommend.
Homework was due nearly every day. And readings were not engaging and his summaries made it more difficult. Understanding concepts was hard and the professor was sometimes hard to contact. I would 100% not recommend his course. The final was okay and the assignments were very meh. If you have to take it, make sure you don't have 5 courses.
Course work is heavy and requires studying. Prof is nice and helpful, but ultimately I learned most of the class on my own time through the textbook and homework.
The lectures can be dry, but Kryzstof makes an effort to engage students. Assignments are frequent, but Unstuck ai's tools helped me manage the workload. Overall, a challenging yet rewarding course if you stay on top of the work.
Philosophy is boring but he cares about it and makes it sorta interesting. He made an effort to learn everyones name, super sweet. He also recorded every lecture and posted the video which was so helpful. But there is a lot of writing, the midterm was all written questions. If you pay attention and have basic understanding it is easy to do well.
I am honestly surprised to see so many positive reviews for his teaching. I felt like he was essentially stumbling through the course, and I was mostly teaching myself in the end. He also takes forever to get grades back, so I barely had time to review and improve before another assignment was due. Would not take one of his classes again, thanks.
One of the best professors out there. The tests were the exact same questions he posts for review. Easy grader and cares about his students. The lectures get extremely boring you can barely stay awake. Attendance was not mandatory and he even posts the lectures online in case you skip or miss a lecture.
solid prof that knows his stuff
Kryzstof was a great professor, he was very fun and engaging with such boring subject matter. His accent is tough to understand for the first week or so, but afterwards, class with him was a delight. He assigns LOTS of MindTap assignments that you must pay for. Some MindTap assignments can take hours to do. Other than that, I have no complaints
Definitely a class you wanna take in spring semester. I couldn't imagine having 4 other classes on top of this with the amount of assignments and hours needed to put in to them. That being said I enjoyed this class overall it's just online modules that aren't too bad.
Nice guy but wow he needs to breakdown the content more. I learnt more from a dumbed down YouTube video on categorical syllogisms than I ever did in that class. Just withdrew to save myself from the crippling anxiety I felt going to that class knowing I didn't understand anything. Would not take again, but again, really good guy, as a prof tho…
He's an easy marker and very funny with his lectures. The assignments are super easy and an easy grade booster, and quiz questions are recycled on the final exam, so make sure you do the quizzes and use them as studying material afterwards. The class itself is boring, but if you can persevere through it, it can be a good GPA booster.
