I believe I took one of her first classes ever. Bulldozes through lecture and powerpoint slides--but she does provide powerpoints and reviews online.. Tests gradually became easier throughout the term. She grades on a curve, and is quick to respond via email to any questions. Ksenia has potential to be a great instructor.
She tested solely off her power points. I didn't have to look at the book once. She did not grade on a curve, but it wasn't necessary. Sometimes she words her questions funny, but that is because English was not her first language. I would recommend her to anybody who asks.
I agree that her tests are off the power points, and they are really hard.
I loved this class. I was very worried going in because this was my first science class in college. She gave great lectures that I would record and listen to to study for the exams. The exams were not too difficult if you study what she tells you in lecture. I found the class to be very interesting and the instructor a joy to learn from.
Ksenia did an excellent job. Some concepts were difficult, but Ksenia's explanations were very clear and she was always willing to answer questions. Expectations for homework and exams were clear. She seems like a natural teacher to me. I would highly recommend taking a class with Ksenia.
I had Ksenia Summer '10, she was fun, and very clear in what she wanted you to learn. Not easy, but she would explain a lot and let you know everything that you need to know for the tests and classes.
Excellent Teacher. Provides clear lectures and can explain the class to the non scientists. Also, she is the hottest teacher that I have ever taken.
Ksenia was a great instructor who was willing to answer questions and give extra explanation when needed. She was clear about what would be on the tests. She offered extra credit on exams and quizzes which was nice because the material is quite difficult. Stay on top of the assignments, and you will succeed.
Ksenia is a very nice person, however her time management skills are lacking. We have a split lab/lecture(there's 40 min between the 2)She has let to finish a lecture less than 10 minutes later than our scheduled release time, and makes up for it by cutting into lab activities for 15-30 min.Security comes through to tell us we have to leave each day.
Ksenia is very knowledgeable, uses real life references, and makes the subject easier to understand.
Good teacher, coming from someone who isn't a natural at bio. She gives good explanations and is an engaging lecturer. I enjoy this class, which I've never said before. Tests off power points are challenging but fair- she tests for comprehension, not memorization. Extra credit questions help; sometimes grades on curve depending on how everyone did.
I'm thankful that she's not teaching 213 next term. She is a good lecturer however she's unorganized and unprepared at all time. Students literally struggled to prepare for exam, which was taken biweekly, and her short answer questions were graded way too hard. The thing was, I felt like I understood the concept and all prepared, but test was blah.
Ksenia was a very good lecturer and knew the material very well and could answer any questions with ease. The downsides to her class was that she used multiple-choice scantron tests, which I am not crazy about, and she had one or two overlyspecific questions on her exams that I don't ever remember even hearing about.
Her lectures were great, but some multiple choice questions were challenging. If a lot of people missed a question, she does throw it out. So as with any other class, the trick is to do better than everyone else. You need to read the textbook too, since some questions were based on ppt slides with just pictures. Tough, but an A is very doable.
Stellar. The best science teacher I've had at PCC, she knew her material and was excited to teach it. I would highly recommend her.
Ksenia knows her materials a little to well. Her lectures are very long and boring. She does power points and we are Chapter 7 and she has only posted to chapter 3! She will flip through each power point faster than you can write and she will always say :will come back to that" but never does. Not good for a visual learner
She is absolutely gorgeous. Tests are off her power points mostly. Study the material conceptually and watch YouTube videos if your confused. If she says it is on the test study it. If she says it is not on the test don't waste extra time on it. Ask questions. If she writes on the board more than likely it will be in test or quiz. Good luck.
She makes biology fun by explaining it in plain english with enthusiasm, drawings, and lots of movement. She encourages group discussion to solidify concepts before moving on. She explains concepts several ways and covers all learning styles. She focuses on big picture instead of tedious fact recall. Do the assignments and get an a.
Ksenia is, by far, my favorite instructor I've ever had. She cares deeply about her students and their success, and goes out of her way to ensure everyone understands the material. Study groups are highly recommended, and office hours are very helpful as well. Definitely take Ksenia if you need biology.
I absolutely love Ksenia's class! She's super passionate about what she's teaching and she's great at answering any questions you have. I'm excited to take her cell bio class next term and I wish she taught bio 122 :(
Ksenia is the greatest. I took BI121 just for the credits and not because I was going into the medical field. She is very informative and I love her lectures. She is very good at answering questions and will help you understand the material. She did study questions after every section this term and I found it very useful.
There are a lot of Pros and a lot of Cons to taking Ksenias class. I had her 211-213 and she is HARD. Super tough grader, super hard exams. She covers all the material lightly and extremely fast in lectures. Taking notes is pointless. Exams are based on much deeper understandings of the material than what is covered. STUDY GROUP.
I've taken Kesenia for Bio 211 and 212 she can be a little scattered but what matters is that you pay attention to what she is saying in class. You can go over slides later but when she is giving class and repeats something or rephrases it and waits for people to write it down, you know for sure it will be on the test. I really like ksenia class
She puts concepts into easily accessible metaphors and really encourages students to work together both in class and in study groups. She gives study questions for each chapter which are mostly based off her slides but you do have to use the book occasionally. Her exams use previous test questions from quizzes, so review them before tests.
Ksenia was an amazing bio teacher. I had her for BI 111/112. She is tough, gives quizzes every week and her exams are really difficult, so it was difficult to get used to at first, but once I got the hang of my study routine for that class, it made me really learn the material. She is a very sweet/cool person, and very prepared and explanatory.
Ksenia is a caring and passionate teacher that uses a lot of good analogies to explain harder concepts during class. There is a lot of material covered in the BI211-213 series, so be sure to ask questions and utilize office hours. She will push you to learn and also provide feedback and support if you are proactive about it. Awesome instructor!
Would choose tough grader if I could too. If you want a social life and realistic expectations, do not take her. Theres quizzes every week and lecture tests every other week along with exams, homework, and assignments. Lab was always done alone without help or talking about it even when we asked, and is very unorganized when uploading assignments.
Ksenia is my favorite teacher, she's amazing. She has such a love for biology and this love gets infiltrated in her teaching making it super fun and interesting to learn about these difficult topics. The content of the course is definitely not easy, but it is manageable because of Ksenia. I hope I can take another class with her in the future.
There is a ton of material Ksenia has to fit in 1 term & she does so in a way that makes it fun to learn. Her face lights up when she talks about certain topics like Mendel, & you can tell how passionate she is about science. That passion is portrayed in her teaching style. She's human but doing her best. This class is a part time job but worth it!
This was the first bio class I've taken at PCC. She's super nice and caring and does explain things in detail, however, the lectures are very long and heavy, and she's a relatively tough grader. You have to spend ALOT of time outside of class studying if you even want to pass. There's also not much extra credit, so don't rely on that. goodluck
I don't really know how to feel about Ksenia. She is a very caring and kind woman and I love her as a person. However, I don't love her teaching. Her lab assignments are full of spelling errors and she can be very hard to understand. I also find myself getting bored in her class a lot because every class is a lecture. She goes overtime a lot too.
I would recommend Ksenia for sure, and be ready to commit to this class! I found the course to be very rewarding. She was flexible and caring, and explained complex concepts super clearly and used metaphors to help information stick. Class was consistent with lecture and lab each week. It is critical to keep up with the material!!
I have never had a professor as dedicated to her job as Ksenia Everton. She is engaging, funny, and easy to learn from. Biology is hard. Ksenia will teach you this material, if you pay attention, and she will never hesitate to explain if you don't understand something. What a gift to be able to learn from someone fluent in Biology!
Ksenia is really great at explaining things in ways that are easy for people with little to no knowledge in the subject to understand. I highly recommend her class to anyone.
Ksenia Everton is a great person, and great instructor. This class is pretty tough in itself. I had a lot of things going on this term outside of school and she was very understanding and willing to work with me to help me catch up. She is well versed in biology and can explain concepts many ways to help you understand. Definitely recommend Ksenia!
she is a great person, and great instructor. she is very great at explaining things in ways that easy for everyone. be ready to study a lot, there is quizzes almost every other week, but not so complicated.
I found it difficult to understand her as there was slight language barrier. Very lecture heavy. Short lecture and lab quizzes weekly. In-depth, make sure you have a full understanding of material. She is a fan of testing on metric conversions. It seemed difficult for her to manage everyone's needs during lab; too many student to one teacher.
Ksenia is a fun, and very intelligent teacher in cell biology. It is very coarse heavy, and you really have to put in the time outside of class to understand the material. Can be hard if you work full time and have a family. lectures are heavy and should go over before coming to class. there are lecture quizzes as well as lab quizzes every week.
Ya'll Bio 112 was the hardest science class I've taken so far! I'm impressed that I made it to the other side. Ksenia is kind and has amazing lectures however it seemed like we were behind the whole term ( which is crazy because of how fast-paced the class was ). Exams are a HUGE portion of your grade, I would recommend a study group! Good luck :)
Ksenia is an incredibly articulate professor with lots of experience and knowledge in her field. It's easy to understand what she's asking of you, and if you engage yourself and put fourth the effort you will succeed in her class! I took her 112 and 231 class because I loved her so much! She's very caring and takes great care of her students!!
If you have the opportunity to take one of Ksenia's classes I would definitely recommend. You can tell she's one of the instructors that actually cares about you and your well being. She replies to emails and questions quick. I took her BI112 and BI 231 class and wish she could teach every class I have to take in the future. She deserves the world.
Clear about what she wants us to know, gives the needed resources, respectful of your time outside of class.
Robot voice. Uses easy open book lecture quizzes with lots of multiple choices, same as rock creek teachers. Bad thing is that does not record lectures!!!! Seems like a old type teacher even though she looks younger. Lab looks hard but lecture looks easy if you take notes while she talking for your open quizzes.
Ksenia is a great instructor! A&P classes are so hard and have so much memorization but she helps out a ton to make it easier. She is so kind and doesn't make you feel stupid when asking questions. The only tip I have for A&P 1 is to put time aside outside of class to study! Even if you have the most perfect instructor, you still need study time.
I've taken three classes from her bc I think she's awesome! I can agree with some other reviews that she's not very D2L savvy, but that doesn't bother me since none of my classes from her have been dependent on that. She responds to emails fast and never makes me feel stupid for asking questions. Shes been very helpful in an extremely hard class.
I took Bi112 and only had her for lecture, She would go over material previous students struggled on and explained what to look out for. her grading wasn't fast but wasn't slow. She actually told you what to look for on test. She made good study guides. Don't expect an easy A though you still have to put time aside on your own to study.
Ksenia is absolutely amazing. Great lab instructor and lecturer. She gives clear, detailed instructions. Her lectures are nicely paced, easy to listen to, engaging, and give time to take notes. She is available via email, office hours, and open labs outside of class for help. There is so much willingness to help if you ask. Best ever.
Very personable, honest when answering questions, doesn't shame you for answering questions. One of the few teachers i've taken that actually responds to emails. I'd take her for every term if I could! I HATE when profs pretend they know everything and she doesn't. She treats her students with respect and dignity.
Take this professor! Has amazing lectures and going in-detail for all her students to clearly understand. Overall hard course but she knows that and helps along the way. Responds to emails. Very laid-back and chill teacher. Would take every course with her! Easy homework assignments, but hard lab quizzes. Provided clear study guides and powerpoint.
Took Ksenia for Bi 112 and Bi 231. That teacher knows her Intro Biology but not A&P. Easy lecture quizzes and uses the standard lab quizzes as other A&P classes. Ksenia responds to emails but answers are oftennot helpful. Won't respond to curious questions from students. it may be a 2nd language issue or lack understanding by her. thick accent
Ksenia is what I would hope every professor would strive to be. She is highly knowledgable and passionate about the content she teaches. Her quizzes and exams are very fair, and expectations for each are clearly outlined in the material provided. Above all else, it is evident that she truly cares about the success and wellbeing of her students.
232 Ksenia is kind, caring, passionate, and offers so much. Textbook is a reference, but don't need to use it (I barely did). She is happy to answer questions and loves discussion. Is approachable. Study guides are key for exams and they spell out what u must know. She has a slight, but easy to understand accent, I think ppl are just xenophobic.
232. Does not provide materials before class. Changes schedule during term multiple times. Is not respectful there's life outside of class. Expects students to follow long rambling lectures where SHE'S sage on stage. Cuts the newer info she doesn't get. Assigns busywork instead of purposeful hw. Rush and memorize to pass is alll this teacher offers
Ksenia is an excellent teacher. She gives good, informative lectures that are engaging. She encourages questions. You can tell she is passionate about both the subject and teaching. Some people are saying her English is bad, which is absolutely a vindictive lie. She speaks without an accent and formulates sentences using excellent grammar.
Easy lecture quizzes. Easy on the eyes.if u watch her lips youll understand her Ukranian accent. Standard factory lab quizzes, study for those and youll do fine
I love Ksenia! Always responds to emails and very knowledgeable about cell biology which helps so much when I was confused! I got a C cause I had personal events happen but this is not a class you can slack in! As long as you stay on top you'll pass! She's very funny and helpful! 1000% would take her class again!!!!
well informed teacher who is passionate about biology, highly recommend. Most the people writing negative reviews didn't understand the class and became lazy on the studying. some reviews are pretty harsh and are kinda xenophobic.
This is a hard subject that requires lots of dedication outside of class. Ksenia presents the information in a direct and concise manner that helps students understand hard concepts. She is always willing to answer questions during and after class. She is very articulate, and I don't get the accent complaints. Her exams and grading are respectable.
She's one of the best teachers I've had super open to questions, fair but firm, and very engaging. Bio 112 is tough but fun, with clear grading and support for all students. She encourages breaks to stay focused and creates a great learning environment. Highly recommend her, but be prepared to work hard, especially if you're new to science!!!
Professor Everton goes above and beyond compared to other professors I've taken at PCC. Course reviews can be instrumental in a student's class selection. However, many of these negative reviews are abhorrent and show a deficiency in one's ability. This is not a walk-in-the-park class; you must make an effort to earn an A or B.
Ksenia is a great instructor and has so much passion for anatomy. I took her BI232 Lab and she explained things thoroughly. She tells you exactly what to expect for lab quizzes and the lab practical. I recommend going to open labs. However, I felt like a lot of the questions were trying to trick me, and not test my knowledge. Overall good class.
See a lot of misplaced anger... If you approach the A&P series thinking you can skate by with minimal effort, you're in for a rude awakening. Should be a 5-credit course. You truly do earn your grade in this challenging class. Ksenia's assessments are tricky, but she is very kind, fair, and passionate about anatomy! Open lab is a must! Study hard!
Steer clear of Ksenia if you can for 231-3. Doesn't present the course material confidently, which made it challenging to grasp the concepts. Taught myself all of it. Explanations lack clarity & her open lab time won't help. Growing a stronger foundation in the subject would much improve learning experience that Ksenia delivers to A&P students.
This class requires a lot of memorization, this professor is very clear about expectations and very supportive.
The class can be difficult but she does her best to make it accessible for everyone and makes it fun to learn each topic . And is also very understanding
Everton is my G she actually covers the content, answers questions, and is an engaging professor overall. I plan on taking BI 232 and 233 with her she's been very helpful the study guides are flipping huge and kind of overwhelming but overall very helpful
This is my second term in a row in Ksenia's class. Students in my class ask a ton of questions and Ksenia is always patient and happy to answer. Study guides prepare for quizzes and tests, but be aware that there are application questions on quizzes. Labs are super straight forward.
Professor Everton is available outside of class. She teaches from powerpoints and uploads them on time. Could improve by building her confidence in the topics. And if she added to her powerpoint lectures by recording them. Recordings are made available only when when she goes overtime or gets behind.
Pros: approachable, nice, caring. Cons: Slow at grading. Uses surprise application questions on quizzes. Keeps a disorganized gradebook. Relies heavily on publisher powerpoints and worksheets to explain things. Reads off the slides. Uses other expert's videos instead of making her own. Not online savvy. Avoids our questions. Rushes through lecture
233. Pros: encourages breaks and coming to open lab Cons: inflexible, not confident, doesn't allow time to answer our questions, slow at grading, no recordings makes it mandatory attendance required for lecture, inconsiderate about student's issues and their life outside of school
I took Ksenia for the whole series. She was awesome for 231-232, but I think this was her first term teaching 233. There were some issues and delays but she was quick to correct (gave credit for a few bad test questions, extended deadlines, communicated). The thing is, I can honestly say I enjoyed coming to class every week. And I learned a ton.
Did y'all write a review on the wrong class? I don't get the comments. She answers all the questions, is super patient with even the annoying students, more flexible than most instructors I have had, really good at explaining stuff. Yeah, class moves super fast, but it's AnP. You have no idea how much worse it can be. I totally recommend this class
I took Ksenia for 231 and 232 and am now finishing 233 with her- she is a great teacher!! I even started BI 232 with another instructor because of my work schedule, but they were so confusing and disorganized I switched into her class. Yes, A&P is super hard, but Ksenia is so organized and helpful, and makes it interesting. Go to open labs!
Seriously people? You're rating this instructor as "awful"?! That immediately makes me not trust anything in your comment. Yeah, nobody is a perfect teacher for all students in the class. She really cares, she's patient, fair, great at breaking down super complicated material, tells you exactly what's on the lab quiz, especially in open labs.
Given this was her first time teaching this class, i would say that she has to start somewhere! She has potential to okay with practice. Relies heavily on powerpoints old school style which was disappointing. Ksenia made sime mistakes writing and grading our tests, but she mostly corrected them.Generally a fair grader& teaches whats in her tests
Ksenia is ok. She provides powerpoints and publisher worksheets. Generally a fair grader and is open to fixing her mistakes. Homework helps you learn a general understanding of physiology and then Ksenia goes into the details with her powerpoints during lecture. Tests are ok. Lab quizzes are very hard.
Ksenia is very passionate about teaching and makes expectations clear. She's kind, patient, and her tests are fair if you put in the study time. Lab quizzes are set up just like the practical, which is very helpful. The only drawbacks are her strict grading on even the smallest spelling errors and the lack of any video lecture content.
If you are heavily reliant on video lectures do not take this class. You either really like ksenia's teaching style or hate it. Don't get me wrong, she is a wonderful person and teacher, but you need to be the type that can take exhaustive notes during lecture, and learn quickly from reading the textbook and put extra effort to compile information
The homework has a lot of work and takes up so much time.
I think that being able to break information down is one of the most important skills in the medical field, and one that is often overlooked. She does that really really well. I ended up using these skills in nursing school. I also just really appreciate how much she cares about students learning the material. Super approachable and clear.
The material is challenging. She likes to go deep on cellular mechanisms and cellular signaling, but she takes time to really explain it. Really good at connecting different concepts. The lab was clear and easier than BI231. I didn't care for the homework, but it's easy points. Nice person, makes you feel like its ok to ask any question.
Just know when in sylvania campus you'll have two professors which is hard to get engaged especially if they don't agree with the anatomy that they both cover. I personally did better with just one professor so if having this structure is for you then so be it. It just doesn't feel as personable to me and can be a bit discouraging
Really approachable, clear, and fair. She does not post any recorded lectures, but she's upfront about that. Take someone else if you want video lectures. I took her for BI233 because she was so helpful to me when I came to open lab and when she subbed my BI232. Some homework assignments as an easy grade buffer.
Ksenia's lack of video means required attendance and gives gatekeeper vibes. Nice people but having two instructors for one class makes it really really misaligned and causes confusion for students when neither of them are super clear about what to study and how to earn a good grade. I do not recommend taking the class in this format
Honestly people, she's really clear, really fair, will go above and beyond to help you understand something when you're confused. Easy homework as a grade buffer. Lab is really straight forward. Lecture material is tough but I feel legit smart after taking this class. Nobody's perfect, but she makes me feel better about the world.
she often struggled to answer queations-repeatedly directed me to the textbook. She was always in a rush before or after class- offered no alternative office hours. She does not respond to emails over the weekend, and barely during the week. Late assignments (with a reason) were not acknowledged or adjusted, despite clear explanations.
I found her lectures to be clear and honestly helpful when preparing for quizzes and exams. You can tell that she wants to help students, and she takes time to adjust to students concerns.
I do not recommend her at all. bad communication, does not reply to emails. doesn't accept late homework at all terms.
