he is really out there but once you get used to the class there arent really any suprises. tests are worth practically nothing. all about peer editing.
Easy. Your guaranteed a B- as long as you showed up to the class and turned everything in. The work is a little much - you will have to review papers, complete readings, and write in your journal weekly but there are only three total essays written in the class which is nothing for a writing class. i'd especially recremend kuhio for poor writers
Kuhio is the man! All college courses should be run like his.
Great professor. Really takes the time to know his students and enjoys helping them out if they're having difficulty with something. Helped us have great conversations.
I used to love writing until professor walters class. He is extremely disorganized and provides no clear instructions to his papers. You can ask him for help easily, but his suggestions are completely irrelevant the majority of the time. His class is pretty chill, but if you're looking to do well or learn something, i stronly suggest staying away.
He is awful, I learned NOTHING. He is so frustrating, I don't think he ever gave me any good advice or feedback. He never gave us grades on our papers he just pulled a number out of thin air when mid terms and finals came around. The whole class is peer review-every single day- it was torture. I hated every minute of this class and most of my class
Good teacher, cares about the students, learns names, chill class.
Although he is a very nice guy, as a teacher he is just plain frustrating. Never was able to keep track of the assignments and would mix them up so I never knew what I was turning in. Overall I really haven't learned anything. The work load was insane.
WORST CLASS!!!!! He is unorganized and changed the class schedule multiple times. He can't understand the students perspective and assigns something to read that is ridiculously long or a four page paper and expects it the next class... never take him
Dr. Walters is unorganized, a poor communicator, and has does not have any classroom management abilities. The workload is inappropriate for the class level and expectations are beyond reasonable. He enjoys stressing his students out in the name of "learning." You will learn, but at the expense of your emotional health.
Kuhio is the man. People that say he sucked must be extremely lazy. Yes, he does give you essays to read and respond too but they are not bad. If you show you have improved as a writer through the 5 essays he assigns(which you will) he will give you a good grade. Also go to the writing center for extra credit it helps.
He's a great guy, really, but as a teacher he's more concerned with being laid-back and friendly than with teaching the class. He is extremely disorganized and a bit awkward in his social dealings. I learned absolutely nothing in his class, and his comments on my papers were never helpful.
yeah, he's a great guy, but he's a really frustrating teacher. he drones on endlessly about nothing. he doesn't answer your questions. he just restates your question (in no less than 3 million words). if you don't have a lot of patients, don't take his class. you'll get frustrated very quickly.
Professor Walters was by far my favorite professor. He made writing enjoyable, and helped me learn more about the writing process and myself. I would definitely take his class again. It was one of the best I've ever taken.
Laid back prof. We worked hard but not insand workload. I learned alot about writing.
Literally one of the worst teachers I've ever had. Puts more effort into making his students sit in circles than actually teaching the class. If you actually care about literature and writing, do not take this tragedy of a teacher. Forgets about assignments, doesn't know any names, and he's really awkward. Beware, I would advise to stay away.
One of the best professors I've ever had. Challenging, engaging, lots of discussion. He cares about what you have to say. Take his class - it will change the way you see the world and yourself.
Cool dude. Easy grader, but hard to get above a B (generally doesn't give less than a B- though.) Gives you a few excuses to miss class, but not more than one or two. I personally enjoyed every minute of this class, it was really fun and entertaining.
This guy has a really unique teaching style that isn't for everyone. I thought he was one the most fun, and engaging teachers. If i could, i would take his class again because i had so much fun.
Dr. Walters is awesome. He leads a respectful classroom discussion. By the end of the class you are so comfortable with everyone in it, you don't care that you have to critique your papers. He also spells out everything the first day- follow the instructions and you're good to go!
Dr. Walters is the best professor I've had at west chester. He is willing to go way above and beyond for his students in and outside the classroom. He's one of those profs that you can really look up to as an educator and as a person. He encourages his students to think/work hard. He wants classes to arrive at their own conclusions about topics.
Amazing teacher. understands where the students are coming from. Also not too bad to look at.
haha oh walters where to start.. well i had his 3 hr class and it was so boring and hard!! buut, that's the MATERIAL not him (or his fault) as long as you work hard you'll get a good grade and he's energetic but sweet (brought in pizza and cupcakes a few diff classes) also DON'T MISS CLASS.. big no no.. other than that you'll be fine good class
Kuhio was the best professor I've had a WCU so far. The class itself was boring, but he knew how to keep everyone entertained. He's very easy-going and knows talent when he sees it.
I genuinely liked Dr. Walters as a professor, but he has his quirks. He's not clear about his expectations in assignments. Also, he's very passionate about the English PHD program at WCU, so he seems to be partial to students who are planning to seek their doctorate. He's not too good with communication either.
Dr. Walters is the best. While he is a tad scatterbrained, and may leave you a little confused at times, his willingness to help you understand the material is immaculate. He will pick your brain, but if you do your work, you'll be fine. If you apply yourself, I guarantee you will leave his class smarter than you were when you came in.
Great Professor every class is a group discussion and he talks to you, sometimes class is a bit confusing but he diffidently stretches your thinking and you can redo any paper and hand it back in to be regraded. He is really nice and class is super laid back and interesting, not too much work either.
Told us he would email final at 8am, but wasted our time and never did. No apology either. Assigned reading an entire novel he never went over. Sent homework at 1am and expected it to be done. Unorganized and wasted class time with pointless discussions. Not malicious and a nice person, but terrible professor.
I recommend not taking his class. His discussions were really pointless. He never handed back any of our grades. He is the most unorganized professor I ever had. He made us wait two hours for an online final that he didn't post until later. Oh and the first day of class he was 40 minutes late... I didn't like this class at all.
Most disappointing professor I have ever encountered. He was arrogant, rude, and highly disrespectful of students and their requests. He wasted class time discussing his other "jobs," was often late (30+ minutes once), and sent out assignments in the middle of the night DAYS after he assigned them. Do not take him unless DESPERATE!
Very unorganized, but a nice guy. The class was o.k., if you do your work, you'll do just fine. More of a social class, didn't go over too much content.
I love Dr. Walters, he makes the class interesting and I'm never bored. We have like three essays the whole semester and we have over two weeks to do each one, plus we peer edit them at least twice in class. I would definitely recommend him!
I loved Dr. Walters! He is a good teacher and connects well with the students. We only had 4 essays throughout the semester and had over two weeks to do them. We did a lot of peer editing which helped a lot. Overall, he was a great guy and i really enjoyed being in his class. Would definitely take him again.
I enjoyed his class!
Kuhio is a great guy! Class is full of discussion, he loves interacting with students. Honestly, he's a little confusing and doesn't really explain the essays, but they aren't difficult at all. If you ask him for help its there, plus you get two weeks to do an essay and you hand in drafts that get edited by your peers. Not a tough grader either.
Challenging material, & a lot of it, but excellent class. You need to be there not just for every class, but every minute of it. Be prepared for class discussions & take thorough notes on your reading before you walk in -- you will need them. He's invested in his students' success & he is excellent about responding via email. Witty & personable!
Loved Kuhio. He's the man. Love that he focuses on philosophical discussions and creates relationships between classmates. I didn't have any trouble with him and loved his class. You'll have a better time though, if you participate.
Walters is in my opinion one of the best professors at WCU. He sets ups his classes so that they are hard to fail. Participation is important as discussions are held every class. He says that as long as you show up and put an effort in you are most likely landing a B at least. Walters is passionate and helpful. He is very proficient with email.
Professor Walters is so much fun! He assigns fun projects and made me excited to come to class everyday. I made 2 of my best friends from that class! I would take this class 1,000 times if I could. I wish he taught more classes because I would take them all. I highly recommend that everyone take him. He gives you a new aspect on learning English.
He's cool, but heavily grades participation/attendance.
He's really funny and the class is pretty chill, every class is discussion-based so you have to participate a lot. It's a comfortable environment, but there is a lot of outside work that you have to do. Kuhio is pretty scatterbrained and he's all over the place, and pretty unorganized. He is also a tough grader, so you have to work for your grade.
Dr. Walters was a pretty good professor overall. Although he isn't always that clear, as long as you do something, he will most likely give you credit. The work you have to do isn't hard, but sometimes it's annoying and time consuming. On the plus side, he isn't bad to look at. I really liked him overall, and i wish I could take him again.
Prepare to work for your grade in this class. Kuhio is a great professor, but the work load will be heavy and you will be held accountable. Seek him out if you have questions, he really is "there for you" and deadlines are pretty flexible in his class if you just talk to him. Just show up, takes notes and do the readings.
Easiest class I have ever taken. All of the quizzes and tests are online outside of class so you can use your notes. Power points in class give you all of the answers for the quizzes. If more than half the class gets a question wrong on a quiz, he gives all the points back. Easy A. Highly recommend him for this class.
This was a very different class than what I am used to. If you have a lot of hard classes and want a simple one take this course. Even though its easy make sure you pay attention what you talk about in class will show up on the test.
Pretty easy professor. Attendance counts for your grade. He says as long as you show up to class and write all your papers, the lowest grade you could get is a B. He isn't the clearest with directions and assignments, but it doesn't matter because he really accepts whatever you write as long as you put in an effort.
Professor Walters is honestly such a great teacher. He's relatable and funny and truthfully tries to make what you learn in the class interesting. There is a lot of outside reading and writing, and sometimes things can be pretty vague and unclear. But if you ask questions and participate, there should be no problem getting the grade that you want!
Kuhio makes his students feel welcome and gets to know his students individually. By the second week everyone knows their classmate's names. He gives great feedback and the class was pretty easy. I hate writing, but I would totally recommend Professor Walters
This class was super easy, he even admitted it himself. As long as you show up and take notes, you will ace the class. His quizzes and tests are all on D2L and all pertain to his slides. I recommend taking pictures of his slides if he goes too fast for you. He definitely makes the class fun! I strongly suggest taking him.
This professor is a nice guy, but he didn't grade anything the entire semester. Just continued to give massive amounts of homework, papers, and other nonsense that he doesn't return or give any feedback on. Also loves to listen to the sound of his own voice - the lectures are tedious and have no point. My life would be exactly the same without him.
Challenging class but loved the material. Kuhio helped us grasp the material. Nice guy, cares about students, knows his stuff about photography. WOuld definitely suggest English majors take his class.
One of the most disorganized profs I've ever had at WCU. Assigns so much work but barely gives any feedback and consistently hands back things late. The material was confusing most of the time. Don't take him for a seminar class if you value your sanity ..
Kuhio is an awesome professor. He loves writing, and cares so much about all his students doing well. He's really chill, and if you need help he will try his best to do so. I hate writing, but I loved the class because of him. As long as you try, you will get a good grade.
Kuhio is a great guy. I had to take this class because coming in my writing wasn't very good, but after this class it definitely got better. Kuhio is caring and just wants you to be the best you can be. He let me hand in things late and gave me good grades. As long as you try you'll get a good grade.
I LOVED Kuhio! Definitely one of the best English teachers I've ever had. Not only is he insightful, brilliant and easy to talk to, he genuinely appreciates hard working students with a passion for English. If you're a slacker, this class isn't for you. If you don't care, he'll be able to tell. But if you do care, then you'll love this professor!!!
Kuhio is a great professor who really cares about his students! He's very open to talk to and will help you if needed. Assignments aren't too bad; follow the format he wants for responses and try your best on essays. No textbook. Read 1 novel and the rest essays, poems, & articles. Participation will help your grade. WOULD TAKE AGAIN & I RECOMMEND!
Do NOT take if you value your time and sanity! Too much of a pushover, leaned too much on the overly philosophical side of teaching. The semester spiraled downwards as his lectures became rabbit trails that led to nothing, he graded every paper poorly for not meeting guidelines that never existed, and piled on random readings that were for nothing.
Kuhio Walter's is a nice guy don't get me wrong, but he is incredibly boring in his lectures. You ask him a straight forward question and he goes on for 30 minutes and by the end of it, you still don't have clarity. He assigns you long readings which he then makes you respond to with vague prompts/guidelines. Don't take if you value sanity + time.
Kuhio Walter's was a very kind fellow, but the class was very hard to follow, very unorganized, and the grades were never provided aside from a random meeting he had 10 weeks into the semester. If you need an English class, he's definitely an option, however, be weary in what you turn in and make sure to not miss class or you're be in trouble.
Kuhio Walters was a frustrating professor. He was very disorganized and never gave out clear expectations for assignments. He gives homework every single class and sometimes will send assignments the night before they are due, even at 11 PM. He is not helpful and I felt very confused throughout his class. I don't recommend taking his class.
I had him for a 100 level class and let me tell you, this is NOT a 100 level class. His prompts take you weeks to understand, then you find yourself with no time to actually write his essays. The writings are based on articles that make no sense and are only interesting to him. Good luck if youre stuck taking him. Worst class EVER.
really cool guy. class was easy, just to get a literature credit. everythings online. does give a lot of reading but you don't technically have to do them. relates it to real world examples. you do have to kinda pay attention in class.
The most disorganized professor Ive ever had. Lectures had nothing to do with the assignments. One time on a Friday night he emailed the class that we had a 2000 word paper due Monday which he ended up postponing due to student outrage. Biggest regret was taking this class- dont do it
I like Kuhio. Little annoying that grades aren't in D2L so you really don't know what you're going to get. He's a little disorganized, but I don't believe it really hindered my ability to succeed in the class. Overall, the class always went by fast for me and I enjoyed the assignments. He was super nice about late assignments and worked with you.
Graduate level courses for critical theory and very interesting. Researched others thoughts in history of critical theory and write online responses. Many papers and lots of reading. Very interesting look at the arts and English. This course made me want to continue and finish the masters.
Walters begins the year off with an essay and throughout the semester its just one after the other, and he begins the next essay before even grading the first two. He spends most of his classes just ranting on and on giving no one time to actually get work done and with the last 5 minutes we are forced to cram work with others in. Just don't do it.
great guy, cares about his students!
Prof. Walters' class is always interesting! His classes aren't just lectures, he has discussions that help you better understand each assignment. He cares about his students and gives a lot of opportunities to make sure you are on track. Would recommend!
He is super nice and very understanding. If you are confused or need help just reach out and talk to him. There are a lot of writing assignments, obviously, but they're pretty short and easy to finish. As long as you show up and remember the assignments you should be fine. Overall just a good dude.
This guy is the typical professor who picks on students and wants everyone to be engaged in the class. I hate this kind of professor. Kuhio is better than other WRT professors, just felt like students were always pressured. Expect a lot of writing since this is a writing course.
Does lots of break out rooms, but overall a really nice guy and an easy class. Genuinely cares about his students and loves when people participate!
Walters is not a terrible professor, but not really anything terrific either. Class consists of mostly breakout rooms. The majority of the course is independent work that does not have much to do with the "lectures" he gives. Not too difficult though, as long as you continue to show up and turn everything In
This professor is incredibly disorganized. Assignment directions were vague or nonexistent. It took 5 weeks to get a syllabus from him. There were no grades throughout the semester.
Professor Walters is a nice guy, but the organization of his class doesn't make any sense. We spent the first months of the semester doing absolutely nothing and now that the semester is about to end we have so much work to do to catch up with what he should've been having us do the whole time. He also does not put grades in or update d2l.
This class was the absolute worst course I've taken in my life. He does not give any written feedback, he's extremely disorganized, unprofessional, and uncooperative. Please don't take any of his courses. You will regret it! The stress from this course was UNREAL!
This class was horrible. Don't do it.
Really good
Kuhio is horrible. Changes what the assignments are on the day of class and talk about inappropriate things. Has not graded or given me any feedback on my work.
Professor Kuhio is the worst Professor Ive ever had at WCU. He does not stick to the class schedule, constantly changes quiz/test dates last minute, talks about some controversial/inappropriate topics that can be offending. He is very disorganized with putting grades into the grade book and going by the syllabus. I would recommend not taking him
I really enjoyed Kuhio's class!! He gave thought-provoking lectures about writing and helped me progress writing in ways I didn't think about. He is very funny and cares about his students. If we turned everything in on time and didn't miss many days, we got at least an A-. However, don't expect to get grades throughout the semester lol
Really great guy. Hes very passionate about what hes teaching. He does cold call in big lecture hall which I never appreciate. But he really cares about his students and having them understand everything
I have had Professor Walters twice and he has always been so great. His classes are so easy and he is super lenient and friendly. He does call on random people a lot but he makes the class a very comfortable environment so, it really isn't that bad. He is a little unorganized but if someone lets him know he will fix it.
Made me cry more than once. Was unclear about the rubric and grading. I'm a woman and when I expressed my disappointment with my projected grade of a B he told me to be proud of it because "a B is a man's A"... so... take that as you will. Textbook definition of "Skip class? Won't pass".
This is part 2 of my review, I'm the one he made cry. He called me "demanding" when I pointed out how he never gave our class the rubric so I don't think my grade is fair, then went on to tear my essay to absolute shreds. If you miss any more than 2 classes, you almost cannot get an A.. idk how I made it. Pls run away from him (esp if ur a woman...
Walters is easily one of the worst professors I've had in my four years. Inconsistent, did not communicate, no rubrics, unfollowed schedule, rambling lectures, and an insane workload. Worst of all, we received NO grades back. None. Even if you asked him about your grade he would just say you were in "B+ range" overall and that you were fine. What??
He's a nice guy and funny too. But the class is ridiculously paper-heavy and he calls on you a lot in class. personally just not my favorite type of teaching. Nice person tho.
So many assignments and no grades ever given. He throws assignments left and right and does not explain what you are supposed to do. Class time consists of taking attendance and distracting from the material. He does not teach, he gives papers for you to teach yourself. He is more interested in being a friend than a professor.
So if youre a good writer, you wont get an A. If youre a bad writer who can revise 3 times and still be a bad writer, youll get an A. And he doesnt help you improve at all. It doesnt make sense. Neither do his lectures. He talks for 50 minutes and doesnt explain anything but then theres 6 things due in 2 days. Dont do it. Good luck.
This professor has called me out on so many occasions for doing nothing wrong. He is very disrespectful to his students and I did not learn anything in his class. We did many papers and did not get anything out of them. It was a big waste of time and I strongly recommend you take someone else's class who can teach you more about writing.
I had him for pop culture. He is super fun and really nice. I suggest taking this course with him for an elective. Would totally take again :)
So many papers with confusing guidelines and very little time to do them. Thinks we only have his class and not 3-4 other classes with work. Very confusing in teaching and takes a very long time to grade and give the syllabus.
For a gen ed writing class, this was the most work i've ever had. so many assignments that have nothing to do with what we do in class and doesn't help us learn anything or become a better writer. he doesnt even read your stuff or give any feedback anyway. more a political class than writing. so boring but attendance was mandatory. dont take him
Great prof. Made the class fun. The political stuff we discussed was sometimes challenging but had great discussions.
Everybody fails all the tests because he presents the questions contradicting themselves. He will curve the tests, so he doesn't look bad but even if you study it won't reflect on your grade. He rants about illiterate subjects the whole class.
Everyone fails his tests because his questions are illiterate and contradict themselves. Even if you study it won't have an impact on your grade because the tests are out of pocket, but he will curve them because the whole class will fail. Waists class time talking about unrelated topics of the class
Professor Walters was also a very caring professor and I greatly appreciate that. The class was interesting. What I disliked is that he did not grade any work until the end of the semester. I had no idea what my grade was until the end of the class and that was frustrating.
Walters was such a good prof! Wont give any grades back. Just one final grade at the end of the semester. Just do the work and you will get an A. very flexible with deadlines and very good at getting back to you.
he didn't grade anything until the very end of the year with one final grade
Professor Walters is awesome. He cares about his students and tries to create relationships with them. He cancels class a decent amount and the work is always manageable. I enjoyed his class and would recommend taking him!!!
Prof Walters is a fine professor. There isn't a ton bad or good about him. I hate gen eds so that is also why I hated the class but he didn't make it an amazing place either. I love his ideas about how the class should be run (socratic seminar, democratic, circle style) but he is pretty disorganized when it comes to grading and scheduling.
He assigns way too much work, made us revise the same paper multiple times, forces us to let multiple other students read our personal essays, calls on students relentlessly, doesn't put in grades until the end of the semester, and his lectures have nothing to do with the homework as he just talks to talk. I struggled a lot in this class.
Ive never experienced anything like this. He was late to class by at the very least 10-15 minutes every single day. Didn't put a single grade in until the last day of the semester. Unfair in grading and test questions make no sense and are not clear. Literally changed the final exam as the class was actively taking it.
It amazes me how extraordinarily rich of an insight Dr. Walters can say out of the blue during a typical lecture. Anyone with a taste in good oratory will enjoy listening to this professor, for he is indeed eloquent. I am giving such a low rating because he appears to be too disorganized and too "here and there".
He doesn't give out a grade on any assignments during the semester. There are 2 discussions during the semester he has with you about your estimated current grade. At the second discussion I was told I had an A-. I thought my final paper after the discussion was pretty good. Despite that, I somehow I ended up with a C+ and no explanation as to why
He Doesn't have a rubric accessible to students, so you can't see how you're graded. Hes late to class so often like more than you'd think. Very unorganized. Forgot to tell us an assignment we had to do 1 week before the semester ended. Gave us 4 papers to write 2 weeks before the semester ended, which is alot on top of all your other courses. 👎👎
He just lectured the entire class and would talk about things useless to the course. This class was extremely easy because he moved all the quizzes online asynchronous. He would say attendance was mandatory but then would rarely take it. This class was super easy but honestly just a waste of time.
Professor Walters' class was a mixed bag. His lectures could be insightful, but he seemed disorganized with grading and assignments. The workload was heavy, and feedback was lacking. For study help, I found Unstuck ai and other resources more useful than the class itself.
I loved this class. I thought it was super interesting and i enjoyed taking it. He can be disorganized and late to class, however he is a super nice guy and i liked the way he taught. Most of the quizzes were open notes and fairly easy. There were also not many assignments. Would recommend this class!!
This was the hardest class I've ever taken and I'm in the honors college. KW isn't a bad guy, the course is just very heavy literature heavy. I didn't understand most texts all semester, this is truly a fake it until you make it class. Grading is weird. You're basically graded on completion and are told twice what your grade is.attendence is strict
Disorganized and incoherent. Didn't input any grades the entire semester. Assigns everything through email, changes deadlines and course requirements last minute, and spends most of his class time lecturing about things that have nothing to do with what he's teaching. If you have to take theory do not take him.
He wasn't very organized but a lot of his lectures were interesting, and the quizzes were open note although I still found they had nothing to even do with the notes despite being at every class and taking good notes. He does care about student success and as long as you get your assignments in on time you should get an A.
Professor Walters is a kind guy, just not very clear. All assignments/instructions are given through email only. He also does not post grades on D2L and instead keeps them on a paper spreadsheet. He is an easy grader, but just so confusing and unclear. He is very understanding but likes to talk for a long time.
So many things we do in the classroom are baseless and stupid. I feels like my money is being wasted daily every time I walk into the classroom. and the class is a snooze fest we talk about the same thing many times disguised under a new "idea" I swear I heard and wrote the words "Visual Rhetoric " so many times its not real anymore.
He was a really good professor. Easy-grader and very kind. I had a night class and we left 15-20 minutes early 85% of the time. The only confusing thing is that grades are not posted to D2L, but as long as you turn in the work on time you should get a good grade.
I enjoyed his class. I thought he was nice and an easy grader. Gave you 2 days past due dates to get work in for full credit.
