She's so hard to understand, doesn't stay on the sylabus but will expect you to do everything on it any way, has no direction, and is extremly complicated, the women the reason people drop out of college, i have a 3.7 average and am a science major,
Very strong and knowledgable professor
Very in depth class, which i have no problem with. What i have a problem w/ is the way she teaches. Like stated above, she requires all the material on the sylabus but will cover about 10% of that in class. She was also very disorganized and late alot
she takes her job very seriously, don't ****her off. shes got a personality of a piece of cardboard.
Had her Spr. '01. She was hard and very strict, but; you learned a lot in her class and she was always willing to help us out. Deep down, she is a DIVA. Just open your eyes and givee her a chance and you will see.
You've got to be serious in her class. Otherwise, don't show up.
Very strict, but also very helpful
IF you must take this course, do not take her for it! Harldy understandable over her accent, works you like a dog instead of helping you, not a very good teacher but she is knowladgeable (good for her that doesnt help me)GL if u get her not easy to pass
No Comments
i respected that she's very stricted, but no matter how good you are she will never give u a change.she got a strange personality one moment she's laughing with u and another she totally flipped with you(she got all mad after one moment)you can't figure her out

first i take her class in fall 2001. to begin with, she might have good knowledge but at the end she totally and i'm telling u dude she flipped on you after you being nice with her and all but at the end she won't help you no matter what screw her i don't need this crap
Not just can't you understand what she is saying but her accent makes it impossible. She will give you alot of work. Only reason i learned so much was because i was so stressed about doing good on tests so I read the textbook liek a madd man. You will bond with your classmates because you all have somethign in common: you hate this lady.
she's trying to do too much at the same time.
Most young NCC students didn't do**** in high school and that's why they're here. That's why most of the reviews don't appreciate this prof. She belongs at a top-notch university, not this place. Her accent? Get used to it, it's common in the sciences at universities. Very knowledgeable, demands respect and hard work. The way a REAL prof should act
She's tough, but if you can stick it out...you might actually learn something...

I think she is brilliant, unfortunately she is not well appreciated by young students. She has a passion for her field...
DO NOT TAKE. She is very smart & knows her information BUT SHE CAN'T CONVEY IT TO STUDENTS. She gives you 15 different directions in 1 minute. Three large assignments give you one grade. There are always major assignments. The textbook & labbook are very good but she drives you so insane, you leave each class w/ your head spinning & an ulcer.
the class was great until dahe walked in then it got hard she goes in 10 directions at a time and doesn't explain anything other she a nice person very understanding and know her stuff the way she talks confuse you b/c she goes in 20 different ways!!! if you have her switch out of the class
she sucked as a teacher and is even worse as a person
Too much works. You'll get three exams and three oral presentation. Tests are so hard. Everybody dropped her class. P.S: you have to go museum lalallalalla lol.
ITS ONE OF MY WORST PROFESSOR.
From the first five minutes in her class, I had to control a newly formed reflex: chucking my pencap at her. I swear she's so freaking meticulous and unorganized it makes no sense. She takes herself too seriously. LADY YOU TEACH AT NASSAU NOT HARVARD STANDBACK BEFORE THE PEN CAP GETS YOU OR I HAVE A BREAK DOWN GRR!
Most of what is written here is true. 1/4 of the class is dedicated to students saying "Um, can you repeat that?". She speaks too fast, is unclear and is pretty full of herself. A big turnoff to learning. Her exams are ridiculously hard, but the presentations go fine if you prepare. Overall, if you're not heavy into science, look for another prof.

How can you teach in America if you cant speak the language clearly and properly. I witnessed her yelling at a girl next to me saying she was laughing and making fun of her accent when the girl was laughing because someone dropped a book. paranoid mean and heartless
I passed with an A and I still feel she was an evil woman, and I only passed from cramming every night from the textbook. Overall I found her to be obnoxious and full of her self. If she was on fire I wouldnt pee on her to put her out.
THE WORST AND HARDEST IVE EVER HAD. DO NOT... I REPEAT DO NOT TAKE HER AT ALL!!!!!!! youll be lucky if you pass with a C.
She's a pretty knowledgeable professor, it's just hard to understand her [accent]. as long as she knows that you're a hardworking student with some drive, she'll respect you. make sure to read the textbook otherwise you're pretty much screwed. also: teachers try to intimidate you the first few weeks so that you'll drop, but stick it out!
Prof. Kumkum is a hardworking and respectable woman. You may find it hard to understand her sometimes, because of her accent, but what you have to be interested in is the knowledge she's passing on to you. She's very smart and her class is no place for lazy students. You have to work hard in her class and it pays off too...thank you Prof, you're gr8
Its impossible to understand her half the time i am trying to understand what she is saying and not really what she is teaching
She is smart, but being smart does not mean the person can also teach. She stinks at teaching. As a person, I respect her, but as a professor, I think she is not good at all. So much work everyday and she expects you to do everything. Literally gives you 5-10 min to write a paragraph w/ 20 vocab worlds. Oh and flowcharts are her fav. DONT TAKE HER!
all negative reviews written here are most likely from degenerates who don't appriciate education. She is brilliant and patient and wonderful. I really enjoyed her botany class. She should be teaching at a better university. If you want to leave a class and actually learn something take her class.
she is the worst teacher ever..I can barely understand what she's saying and she yells too much and is arrogant and full of herself..she speaks too fast it's so annoying most kids can barely understand what she's saying and she makes learning extremely difficult for students..DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR: I REPEAT! SHE WILL RUIN YOUR TRANSCRIPT!!!
Incredibly hard to understand her.
Horrible teacher...doesnt let students catch up..expects you understand something after she says it one time in an accent that is unbearable..I dont understand who interviewed her and I really am confused on how she is even allowed to teach.
She's an easy professor if you simply pay attention. Homework load wasn't that high, the only problem was her thick accent. I had fun in her class, and was able to joke around. Overall, a good professor.
worst professor ever! 5 hours of hell a week with her! she is so hard to understand if you have her get out of her class asap!
Man was she tough...honestly the toughest class I have ever taken. This class ruined my transcript and I ended up with a big F. Although I will admit that many people in my class did quite well, so there is a way to do well, I just couldn't find it.
Great teacher. She makes you work, but if you do everything she says and study, you can get an A. She is not as difficult to understand as people say.
REALLY HARD PROFESSOR! accent isnt as thick as everybody says. shes very fast pace tho, usually chapter a week. tests are 5 CHAPTERS PER TEST! shes a fun person to talk to during lab although she doesnt explain much lol see her after class and she helps alot . i recomend not taking her unless u really do study 24/7 eat sleep n breath bio!
At first I thought her class was hard but after a while her class seemed to be easier. She is a hard professor but she's good. If you work hard in her class and she takes notice that you're conscienscious you should have no problem getting atleast a B. I worked hard and got a B. Definetly a cool person though very nice.
I dont understand how she has such a low grade. She is a phenomenal teacher and very helpful. One of the few college professors out there who actually care. She will make you work, but it is for your own good. Hoping for a B or A :) There is no slacking off or short cuts (then again if you are looking for that you should'nt be in college).
More than 50% of the students either fail or drop her damn class! She sucks at biology and even worse at teaching it. She's never consistent with her chapters and lessons or reviews on a test. She continuously changes the due dates of homework and quizzes. NEVER EVER TAKE HER CLASS! She's a bad teacher and a person.
She is a very good professor and a very good person. She is extremely helpful and guides very well. I recommend everyone should take her.I took her in Bio 130 and got an A!!
Very good teacher..extremely helpful !!
bio is not my best subject but I worked hard in this class and still ended up dropping it! She was very nasty when you don't understand something and has a thick accent which was fairly hard to understand. She got very annoyed with people who didn't remember things from the bio class in high school. DO NOT TAKE HER
Tough professor. She has an accent, but she is understandable. Her exams are multiple choice. However, her midterm and final are not. You have to write out the answer to the questions. She's smart and funny, but don't take her class if you don't like to study.
Does not know how to teach. Bounces between subjects all class long, constant repetitions, con not conduct a lab properly. For all students who need some kind of Bio elective... DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. You've been warned.
She is probably one of the hardest professors I took at NCC. She made lab difficult because she doesn't really help. Her exams were also a little challenging. She really makes you work. I don't recommend taking her class unless you study the material 24/7.
if u really wanna develop habit of studying u can take her as ur bio professor. She is a highly professional unviersity label professor. You have to be very seroious if u are taking any of her class
She is a very hard teacher gives alot of homework classwork quizes and test. Goodluck if you take her
Took her class as a summer course. It was so difficult. She picked favorites, yelled at you if you didn't understand something, and her tests were difficult. Make sure you bring your lab coat daily or you will be kicked out. Lab tests were really hard. She posts a lot of homework online.
Hands down without a shadow of a doubt the worst teacher I've ever had. I struggle to find one good comment to write about her. The only thing I've learned in class from her was mitosis and meiosis, EVERYTHING ELSE you have to study for on your own or your completely and utterly screwed.
Dr. Prabhakar is nice, funny, and definitely knows a lot, but she teaches the class as if her students are biology majors going for their masters or doctrine in Bio. Extremely hard, way too fast paced and confusing. if you weren't the best student in high school or took AP science classes i HIGHLY recommend steering clear of this professor.
Despite her acient, which is easily over comeable, she is a great teacher. If you put in the time and search blackboard all the answers are there. Besides passing the class this professor actually teaches you something and gives you the opportunity to walk away with a great deal of knowledge.
probably one of the hardest classes ive ever taken. this lady does not teach if you want to do good in this class you have to do all the studying on your own for a lab class that is not required unless you are some sort of science major DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS it was a waste of time for me. if your signing up for classes late this one is left for a
Great teacher, work can be tough. you definitely leave that class with a solid understanding of plant science.
Probably one of the worst teachers in the school. simply put if your stuck were her drop and get a better teacher next semester
She is the worst bio teacher I have ever had. I took living environment, college bio, and AP bio in high school and I still found difficulty. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. She likes to pick on students harshly and she is hard to understand with her thick accent. WORST TEACHER EVER!
Not as difficult as others say, though definitely should have some bio background before taking class; not an intro class, as course description suggests. Make sure to do all the assignments and quizzes on time and you'll do fine. Also, tests are based heavily on the quizzes.
Prof Prabhakar was tough. She has an accent but it was understable. She is unclear on what she expects you to do on assignments. She is an univesity level professor and likes to keep things fast paced. She will remember your name so just act interested and pretend you know the answer. You should get a decent grade if you try your best.
Let me just say, Mrs. Prabhakar was one of the hardest professors I ever had at Nassau. However, after numerous extra credit reports I walked away from her class with a B+. Her class was by no means easy but she challenged me to show her I could do better and in the end I'm glad I had her.
Although Dr. Prabhakar is tough to understand, she expects college level work. She gives plenty of extra credit and is very understanding when you form a personal connection with her. I would highly recommend this professor, you get the grade you deserve and worked hard to achieve.
I did not enjoy her class; she isn't a particularly good teacher and she's not exactly pleasant. I ended up doing alright in her class, but her lectures and labs were easily my least favorite parts of the week. Do not recommend.
Good attitude
Sometimes hard to understand her accent. Is very fair with grading and gives chances to increase grade including extra credit opportunities. Thought i was barely passing ended up getting a B. Pay attention and don't be on your phone too much.
Extremly tough grader. She has a doctorate so expects everyone to be as smart as her. Class is made very difficult
she's a very horrible professor expects her students to know everything and doesn't even bother on explaining things to her class. She just tells everyone to do the work and gives no type of help. Has a very thick accent can't understand a word that she says . I honestly regret taking this class she's a horrible professor my opinion DON'T TAKE HER
She is a very straight forward professor but sometimes it is hard to understand her. I took this class for transfer credit. Her tests are mostly memorization from the outline she gives you. Just pay attention and don't goof around. There are field trips too. I got an A in her class.
She expects a lot from her students, but she is a very respectable professor. She gives many types of assignments, and gives a few opportunities for extra credit. Expect to know the specifics of the crebs cycle and about plant biology.
Treats a bio100 like its a graduate course, the worse teacher i have ever taken and i got an A in the course
Dr. Prabhakar is an incredibly overqualified Professor. She is incredibly intelligent and knowledgeable in many aspects of biology. Her classes make it possible to do well on exams simply by paying attention in class and handing in all assignments. Earning an A in her course is very difficult, but possible as long as you attend class.
Initially a bit challenging to understand due to accent but you'll adjust. She has good and reasonable expectations from her students and treats you above a community college student. If you are mature and serious about your grades and career then their should be no issues despite other reviews. Pay attention and participate.
I loved her class. If you really want to do well in her class read the text book before you attend the lecture. She has high expectations out of her students and if you are a serious and a motivated student that would inspire you to study harder. She has no patience for students who are lazy. I would highly recommend her class.
Professor Prabhakar is an excellent teacher and prepares her students for more higher and difficult science courses in the future. If you go into her class thinking she'll easily let you off do not take her. But for those who are serious in achieving a higher level science degree her class is an exceptional foundation.
While her tests are fair, she is extremely hard to understand and cannot explain simple concepts like a professional educator. There is no Bio prereq; and if you ask a question, she gets annoyed as if you should have 3 years of Bio under your belt already. She does not care about her students at all. I would suggest avoiding her class if you can.
Her teaching style is all over the place. She is very confusing and nonspecific about subject matter that should be straightforward.
Trying to understand her explanations of course material was difficult. It was mostly self teaching. She spoke very fast and didnt give much time for you to process the information. A lot was crammed into 3 hrs, 2days a week.
I don't usually rate professors because I understand it is a difficult profession and everyone teaches and learns in different ways. However, this professor is EXTREAMLY disorganized. She does not adequately explain ANYTHING but sje expects you to know EVERYTHING. So for your own good I would just suggest you DO NOT take her class.
Breaks up assignments for the marking period at a very manageable pace. Professor available via email to answer questions.
v unorganized worst thing ive done to myself
Very rude, unorganized, and unreasonable. If you ask questions she gets upset and thinks you should already know. I got a 0 on a assignment because it wasnt submitted in pdf and I wasnt given another chance to submit. We were given other work to complete while literally in the middle of taking an exam.
Rude on the first day. Not helpful. Drop her class while you can. Terrible
I asked for help on where to find the material we were working on the first day and she immediately told me to ask somebody else in the class Her BlackBoard is unorganized and hard to navigate. If i could give her a 0/5 I would.
This is the professor that changed my life and my career trajectory. She has high expectations and will prepare you for a science career, so don't take her classes just to fulfill a gen ed requirement. She gave me the skills to excel in rigorous courses, get a position in a research laboratory, and eventually land my dream job.
An experienced professor who has been teaching BIO in NCC for quite some time now. She enjoys teaching BIO but she can get impatient at times due to her old age. Her usual monotonous tone doesn't help either. Unexpected but welcomed, certain days when she's in a good mood her class is fun. Gives lots of homework, pop quizzes in class. Exams are ok.
She was impossible to comprehend.
You'll be up to your a$$hole in work. Doesn't give you a chance to take any notes. I've taught myself this whole time. Teaches one thing and tests on another. Doesn't answer emails and doesn't really help when you don't understand something.
Prof Prabhakar is ok but tough. It difficult to understand what she actually saying so you have to read ahead. Her exams were extremely difficult (was nothing I learned in class). She will lead you to study everything biology and forget about other courses. If you're up for the challenge you can take her class.
VERY RUDE VERY ARROGANT. I bet she's just bitter bc she can't teach at Harvard or ANY IVY league. not good for top notch universities such as Baruch or NYU.very hateful..could not understand her.tried to ask for help many times & was just unhelpful. As a professor, you're supposed to be helpful.stay away this class unless you really love biology.
Her accent is NOT the issue. I can understand her completely and also, I talk fast & I understand people who talk fast as well. I actually like when people talk fast so they land their plane bc my attention span is short. Her problem is she's RUDE and refuses to help or explain. She thinks she's teaching at IVY.HUMBLE UP.she'll make u HATE biology
