he does WAY more than he has to, including sending emails about quizzes and tests, answering any/all questions through email, and putting podcasts on his website. he is clear with all the material, so the class is cake. unfortunately there's not much anyone can do to make math interesting.

I found Mitsuma to be a very nice teacher. He is friendly and will go out of his way to accomadate you and to help you in any way possible. (Even if it is through text messaging... a little wierd if you ask me.) However, the course was taught at a very fast pace and I found it incredibly hard to keep up with a chapter a class and a test a week.

The very best among KU math professors I've had. No one comes close to him with computer applications. Dedicated teacher and definitely has up-to-date knowledge of math. I want to be a teacher like him when I graduate!

I had calculus in high school, but didn't understand it well back then. Dr. Mitsuma explains everything so clearly, finally all became so clear so much so that I actually love calculus now ;-) I can't wait to have him again in calc 3. He is a great teacher!!!!!!!!!!!

took pre-calc with him my senior year of high school. awesome, energetic, amusing. loved his work on the board- he uses different colored chalks to make his point. also, he records his lectures, & has an extensive website with all sorts of help. definitely take him!

Great Teacher!!! A+++ Tons of Examples in class and starts everyone class off with questions which acted as a great review. Lot of math problems at hw but its not graded so you dont have to do it. Highly Recomended!!

Great teacher, explains things in a clear manner, and you really learn from his lectures. He is helpful and will respond to any questions you may have. Each test he gives you usually have a chance of getting a 120 on it, can't get much better than that. Highly recommended and I would take him again if I was given the choice.

i love dr. mitsuma. i would not have passed this course w/o his help durin his office hrs. i had some medical issues and missed classes, but i was able to catch up by listening to his podcast. i wish all professors did podcasts like him. his web pages are awesome too. all the test keys are posted too. definitely recommend him!!

I wish I had him in calc 3 as well. I use this livemath everyday now in calc 3. This course started out easy but got harder. Great professor, explains everything clearly. Color chalk is great!!! I learned a lot about Maple too. I wish other math teachers were like him. We can use livemath on tests, which is great and makes tests easier to take.

Took him for 017 and 105, had to drop 105 because I was failing. He's very smart,nice, and likes to joke around.He cares about your grades,but sometimes when he is teaching he seems to forget that not everybody already knows how to do what he is teaching.He tends to show you how to do something only once,and then from that moment on he skips steps.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED FOR CALC 4!!! Compared to Dr.Deb in Calc 3, he was soooooo much better. Very helpful too. I went to his office many time for help and my grade went up. It's great we can use computers on quizzes and exams and it made math look so much easier to understand. As long as I put time into preparation, I got A's or B's on all tests.

Mitsuma is the man!! He explains and teaches VERY WELL!! This was a difficult course but the professor made it VERY accessible. His explanation with computer animation was so cool!! I would have taken him for calc1-3 if I had known him. He's really GOOD!!!!!!

You will still need to learn the material as algebra is a concrete subject, no ways of getting around that. But he can be hilarious at times which eases the pain of the boring material. He also gave me a second chance at taking a test which he didn't have to do.

I enjoyed this class very much. I was surprised how much of integration stuff from calc2 was needed in calc4. If I hadn't got an A in calc2, I would have had a hard time in this class. The prof. is the best I've had in math - he explains complex 3d stuff with a computer. Never had a teacher who does it. Recommend him!!!

Dr. Mitsuma was a fantastic professor. He was my first math professor at Kutztown University and I couldn't have started off better. He is very clear with his class objectives, and his notes are GREAT. They are very easy to study from. Beyond that, he is very helpful. Make use of his office hours; they can be of great use!

I thought I knew a lot about math until I took Dr. Mitsuma in calc 3. My trig skills were really rusty. But, thanks to his GREAT handout, I am up to speed again. He pushes the class, but I can see now that's because he wants us to do better in calc 4. Overall, GREAT professor!! I recommend him to anyone planning to take calc.

Clarify of steps were always exceptionally easy to understand, and I rarely had a need to go into the chapter to get more information. I wish that other professors would emulate his clear and concise teaching style. I wish he taught additional courses, for I would love to have him again.

He assumed we remember EVERYTHING!! A quick reminder/review would have helped jumpstart our memory. I liked how he incorporated LiveMath into his lectures to help us visualize the problem better. I enjoyed his class and think he is an excellent (and entertaining) professor!

I have learning disabilities and math is not my strong subject. So, I was very nervous taking a math class online. Prof. Mitsuma was willing to meet with me every week and go over the material. It was so helpful. Without his help, I would have never been able to do so well in this class. I can tell he cares about his students and how we are doing.

I took this course with Dr. Mitsuma a few years ago. I can say that his style of teaching theoretical courses is exactly what I encountered in grad school. No other math professor has prepared me more for what to come next in mathematics. The course was difficult. But, Dr. Mitsuma explained difficult concepts better than anyone else could.

I got 3/10 on the first quiz. I was a B student in calculus, and it had caught up with me. So, I visted Dr. Mitsuma during his office hours every week. He was patient & reviewed various integration techniques. Great teacher. In fact, I found his explanation better than the textbook. RECOMMEND him for calculus!!

I've never been good at math, and I've heard horrible things about MAT 17. But, Dr. Mitsuma is the best thing that happened to me this semester. He is wonderful - I can understand him, he explains concepts the way I can understand. Take Dr. Mitsuma for MAT 17!!! You will be glad!!

Anyway Mitsuma is an alright teacher. He helps you if you need it and teaches a subject where most of the teachers speak english poorly so hes going to seem fantastic. One thing of note, he is unwavering in excuses. Basically you have to be dead or dying for him to accept an excuse. Overall hes an OKAY teacher..not too hard not too easy. Just okay.

This was a hardest math class I've taken thus far. But, I have to say I rather enjoyed it. Prof. Mitsuma gave GREAT NOTES – especially the color chalk that was easy to follow. I don't know how he does it.. I couldn't pass MAT 105 with two professors before Mitsuma. SUPER CLEAR TEACHING! Then, I took him again with MAT 121. I did terrible on the first exam, but he helped me a LOT during his office hours, so I could pass with a B. He is the ONLY PROFESSOR who can teach math to me. What does it tell you about him???

Prior to taking this online course (MAT 17) with Dr. Mitsuma, I was concerned about how it would go because I had never taken math online. He has been super helpful with all the emails and meetings with me in his office. I just feel comfortable asking him questions. And, he always takes time to answer my questions. Great Prof. !!!

I took MAT017 with him in class not online, and it was great!! But, I did hear from othes his online class was tough. Well, I cant speak for them, but you really want to get to know him because he is very good at explaining math to you in class and during his office hrs. He makes math fun to learn -- thats' the amazing talent this man has!!!!

He gives a ton of opportunities to improve your grades. No easy ride however. He expects a lot from students, but that's fair considering many bonus credit chances you get. His explanations are clearer than many other math professors, and since I am not too good at math, I find it easy to learn from him. Definitely recommend him for business math!!

I took Dr. Mitsuma for MAT 17 winter online course, unfortunately I had to drop due to poor grades. Math is my worst subject, and it was unwise to take the class online. You essentially have to teach yourself. I didn't study for the first test, which doomed me for the following weeks. I emailed him to explain, he understood and wished me luck.

I failed this class before and heard Dr. Mitsuma wasn't easy so I was concerned but had no choice because I am a physics major. BUT, as it turned out, no, he wasn't easy on tests but he explained difficult concepts well and I was able to not just follow him but learned a great deal in this class. My notes still help me in physics.

I had to take this course because I am a business major but math is not my strong subject. I did terrible on the first exam but Professor Mitsuma helped me many times during his office hours. Without his help and LOTS of bonus point opportunities I dont' think I made it thru. He is the first math teacher I felt comfortable talking to. Great guy.

Mitsuma was an interesting professor, tired to make class interesting randomly would crack jokes on students. Exams were all online. He taught a new set of notes everyday. Bonus questions were given which helped a lot. Overall fair grader and good professor.

I took MAT 311 (Abstract Algebra) and 330 (Number Theory) with Mitsuma. Aced both. The man is extremely smart and teaches well. Now that I'm in grad school and I've seen world-class mathematicians, and many of them teach like Mitsuma does, I can see why I had to survive his classes. Unless I was disciplined, I would've easily failed his class.

Every math teacher I've ever had never explained why we would need the information we were being taught. Prof. Mitsuma applied formulas and math problems to real life problems. Another thing -- I'm a highly organized person and rewrite all notes. This was the first class EVER that my notes were perfect from class. RECOMMEND HIM!!

Dr. Mitsuma was the answer to my prayer. I have struggled all my life with math. I heard many bad things about MAT 17 teachers yet all good things about him. The class was tough - I had to study hours. But, Dr. Mitsuma was the FIRST math teacher who can explain math in an easy way I can understand it. Miracle - Never thought possible.

Mitsuma wss spot on when he explained everything from vector calculus, line integral, etc. Mathematica was great--it really made my life easier to SEE what we were doing in 3D. He made all of us work very hard. But, I am glad I had him because Mitsuma is a great teacher, fair grader. RECOMMEND him!!

I had Mitsuma in MAT 283 & 311. Quite frankly, I have never taken notes in ANY class as organized as his. The use of color chalk makes important things stand right out and made reviewing for tests so much easier. When I needed help. he always took time to explain. Easy to talk to. BUT, you'd have to study hard for a good grade in his class.

Prof. Mitsuma's dedication to his work is second to none. I went to his office hours for help, and he really took time to explain things. But, what surprised me was he sent me a half-hour video just for me to further explain other stuff that we ran out of time for. I have never had a teacher like him. I wish all other teachers were like him.

I was nervous taking an online math course during a short summer session. But, Dr. Mitsuma was always there for me when I needed help. I got replies quickly to the questions I emailed him. One time during an online exam, my browser locked up and I couldnt do anything. I texted Dr. Mitsuma, and he immediately helped me continue with the exam.

No homework collected. No attendance taken. If you dont do homework, thats perfectly fine with him. Then, you die on tests. To me, thats as fair as I can be treated as an adult and not as a juvenile. Love his style of teaching and occasional jokes. He will help you in any way possible: By phone, by email, by text, even outside his office hours.

From the beginning, Dr. Mitsuma tried to prepare us for real world problems. What he taught us immediately helped me figure out something about my own car loan that had been puzzeling me. I had to work really hard to get an A, but it was well worth the effort. Great teacher. Takes time to explain difficult concepts well. Recommend him!!

I am an adult student returning to college after 13 years of hiatus. When I had Professor Mitsuma in MAT 17 (online course), I had to ask for various accommodations due to my work schedule and family. I cannot say ehough about how understanding he was, and thats why I was able to pass the course with a good grade.

I took Dr. Mitsumas online MAT 17, and I couldnt be happier because of his detailed instructions on just about everything we were supposed to do. Always prompt with replies to my questions. At one point, in the middle of an exam my internet connection was lost. I emailed him about it and he was very accommodating so I could finish the exam.

Im not strong in math yet doing 99.2% now. I have classes when Dr. Mitsuma has office hours. But, when I need help he is always willing to set aside other times to see me. If you are terrible in math but willing to make effort, youd be crazy not to take Dr. Mitsuma. This online class has turned from a nightmare to something I like!!!

Great communication - every time I asked questions, I got anwers immediately. Everything about this class was posted at the instructors website, which is by far the best Ive seen at KU. I can tell when a quiz is what its coverage, etc. Beautiful grade reports he sent me surprised a heck out of me. Great online couirse!!

Dr. Mitsuma's online MAT 121 was great. To start off, his collection of tutorial videos he himself made were absolutely useful. The videos showed how to study for better grades in this online class. Always ultra prompt in answering my email. Bonus points and all, this was a great class to take online. RECOMMEND!!

Im terrible at math, never did well in high school or college. Yet, I got an A in Dr. Mitsumas class. He was the first teacher who taught me math the way I could follow. You cant miss his office hours. He always took time to explain until I understood my questions. It's rare when a professor makes you like the subject you thought you hate.

Fairest grader I have ever had. I didnt do well on the first two exams, yet my grade is an A now because he gives various opportunities to earn bonus points. He does lots of real life problems and makes math fun. Real + among math professors.

He is amazing and I learned the most from him. I had him for Number Theory and Abstract Algebra. He is always willing to go back and answer any questions you might have. ASK QUESTIONS! or he will move on without you. Always gives ways of earning extra credit. And gives you grade reports each month so you know if you are on track which is helpful.

I had already failed this class 2 times with other professors. Dr. Mitsuma was great getting back to me whatever I emailed him questions. **EVERY** time I went to see him during his office hours, he was willing to explain EVERY question I had. I wouldnt have passed this class without his help. Very personable. Great teacher!!

Amazing professor. I was concerned about taking a math class online. But, Dr. Mitsuma was the MOST RESPONSIVE teacher Ive ever had. The class flew by but I truly appreciated how helpful he was. I emailed him lots of my work and he corrected them and sent them right back to me, which was extremely helpful because quizzes and exam kept coming.

Dr. Mitsuma is wonderful. Easy to follow and always willing to help. I took this class last semester and didnt understand anything. This time, I actually understand everything. If you are struggling in MAT 17, I highly recommend Dr. Mitsuma!! Make use of his office hours too!!

I was very nervous taking MAT 17 because I am terrible with math. But, it turned out that Dr. Mitsuma is the most caring and patient teacher I have ever had. I have various medical issues. Dr. Mitsuma went over and above his way to help me. Despite math being my worse subject, I have a B average only because of his help. You have to take him.

The only professor I know at KU who makes tutorial videos for you. I learned a tremendous amount from Dr. Mitsuma. Financial math he explained to us was very easy to follow and useful as well. And, he always reviews our answers and tries to give us as many partial points as possible. Mostly importantly, Dr. Mitsuma prepared me for my next class!!

I had failed MAT 17 once before with a different professor. Dr. Mitsuma was the easiest math teacher to follow in class, gives good notes to study from. I am a commuter and I had other classes during his office hours. EVERY WEEK, Dr. Mitsuma set aside time for me to go over my questions. I know I am passing, but only because of his caring help. :-)

If you are terrible with math and need help constantly, I recommend Dr. Mitsuma!! Every time I requested a meeting, I was able to see him. I think I will get a B and thats all thanks to his help. One time I was sick and emailed Dr. Mitsuma I would not be in class. Later that day, without even being asked, he emailed me a detailed list of topics that were covered in class. THEN!!! Dr. Mitsuma even made a short movie for me explaining how to do a tricky problem he covered in class. He cared about me not getting behind. It meant a LOT!!!

If you have the opportunity to take Dr. Mitsuma's class for business math, please do! He goes above and beyond trying to help students with any questions they have. He does not give a grade for homework or attendance, but try not to fall behind! The homework will help you greatly on exams and quizzes. Best math professor/teacher I have ever had!

I would not earned a B in this class, let alone passing it, if it had not been for Dr. Mitsumas help in and out of the classroom. His lectures were wonderful. He took time to explain everything clearly and frequently asked if we had any questions. Absolutely the best professor I have had at KU!! (I wish he taught a stat class, too.)

Dr. Mitsuma's online classes are very independent, so only take them if you learn well on your own. He is a very kind and caring person, always willing to make time for his students. He will make video tutorials. He's very genuine and sincerely wants the best for his students. I went in to brush up for calculus and left with a friend :)

At first, I was nervous taking an online math class. It was a series of assignments, quizzes, and exams. It was tough to keep up because the class moved very fast. I really appreciated Dr. Mitsuma's quick response to questions I asked via email. He was super-helpful during office hours, too. Do the assigned exercises! Overall, great online class!!

College algebra to me was a review. This was an online class and I liked it. According to a grade report I received from Dr. Mitsuma after the 3rd exam, I am doing 99.1%. I need 58 on the final to get an A. I really liked the grade report because it told me how well I am doing and what I need on the final to get an A.

I am a business major and really enjoyed the class even though we had to do lots (seriously) of lots of word problems. TMV solver was way too cool for all kinds of business problems. I was not a big fan of sets that we did toward the end. But, all the other business math stuff was really fun and his explanation was always very clear. Recommend!!

Dr. Mitsuma always had good real life problems for us to solve, like comparison of 15-year vs 30-year mortgages, car loan examples, etc. This kind of stuff I can use right away, and he helped us go through computations so we could really understand whats going on. I highly recommend Dr. Mitsuma in MAT 121. He teaches the kind of math you can use!!

The best online class I have taken at KU. Always prompt to respond to questions I assked. His website has EVERYTHING you need to know about the course. I wish other professors had websites like his. WebAssign took some getting used to, but I liked how things are done there unlike on D2L. Defintely recommend his online class!!

This is my second time taking an online math class and I really like WebAssign. I can follow their online textbook much better to self-teach the material. Good amount of work, and Prof. Mitsuma always gets back to me with detailed explanations if I have questions. Ready for calculus now :-)

Dr. Mitsuma is by far the easiest math teacher to follow in class. His explanations are clear and spot-on. And, he gives the best notes in math I have ever taken. He always asks class Do you follow this? Are we going too fast?, and adjusts the pace. Absolutely recommend him!!

Amazing professor!! Besides math, I learned how to take great notes with color. Prof. Mitsuma uses color chalk to illustrate important topics in class. This makes it so easy to review my notes. Also, the grade reports he distributes are unbelievable. I wish other KU professors did it. At a glance, I can tell precisely where I stand in class.

I was fortunate to have Dr. Mitsuma as my first math professor at KU. He was really good at explaining math. The notes Dr. Mitsuma gave in class always helped me do the assignments. I HATE math, Ive never been good at math, but this is the first time I understand math. I dont know how he does it, but when Mr. Mitsuma explains something, I get it. He takes time and explains everything until everyone in class understands. I got 85 and 93 on two exams so far amazing math professor. Love his color chalk! :-)

This online class worked well with my job and family. Dr. Mitsuma told us to make mock practice exams from the books exercises. This helped me A LOT because problems on his exams were straight from the assignments. I put 2-3 hours a day studying for this class. He is extremely quick to respond to email. Overall, very glad that I took this class!!

I took pre-calculus in high school. But, I needed to brush up on my trig skills. So, I look this online class with Prof Mitsuma. I appreciated how helpful he was every time I emailed him questions. At one time, I got a 4-page typed-up detailed explanation back. Very helpful during his office hours as well. I would definitely take him again.

He won't spoon-feed you anything. I learned that the hard way. I had to read the book on my own and do the exercises on my own. But, if I asked questions, I got amazingly detailed replies. The test prep method he shared with us was a godsend in improving my scores. Gives partial points. Don't take him unless you are diligent. You won't do well.

I had thought an online class would be easy because there's no class to go to. After I failed the first exam (51/100), I went to see him for advice. He wanted to see if I had done all assigned exercises. All? No. Some? Yes. DO ALL OF HIS ASSIGNMENTS. I changed my study habit, then my grades improved dramatically. He helped me a lot thru emails too.

I came down with COVID-19 and was sent home. As a result, I missed a lot of work. Dr. Mitsuma has gone above and beyond to help me catch up with missed work through live chats and a ton of other help. It means the world to me to have a teacher like him who has so much compassion for his students.

The most caring professor Ive ever had at KU. This semester was a nightmare to me, not just the pandemic but various family issues at home, all affected my performance in all classes I had. But, every time I wrote to Dr. Mitsuma, I got long & thoughtful replies. Detailed solutions he typed up for me for math questions were amazingly helpful.

He lays out his rules at the beginning of the semester and he is very fair in accommodating students needs as long as these are not Oh, please give me a break type excuses. Also, very fair grader. I was impressed when he sent me a short video just for me pointing out mistakes I made on an exam. VERY GOOD TEACHER!!

Mr. Mitsuma is so much better than any other math teacher I have had from high school to college. When I ask him questions, the response I get from him is 10 times more detailed and 10 times clearer than any math teacher anywhere. If you are not good at math and have always felt intimidated by math teachers, Mr. Mitsuma will blow your mind.

Dr. Mitsuma never stopped encouraging me, LISTENED TO ME, helped me thru emails, lots of kind words, etc. Even though covid isolation was unbearable, I knew someone always cared about my struggle. I really REALLY WISH every teacher was like Dr. Mitsuma.

One year ago, I took Dr. Mitsumas online MAT 106 trigonometry class over the winter session. It was the most polished online class I have ever taken. His website was so helpful that it guided me every step of the way through the topics. He was extremely prompt in responding to any questions I had. It was by far the best online class, ever!!
