Kunio is just the worst professor I have ever had. There is no clarity in his lecture and if you ask him questions, he pretends that it is the student's fault that he/she doesn't understand this simple/clear concept. If I would get a cent for how many times he said "what do you mean?" in reply of a question...

Kunio will never answer your questions if you ask him for help or send him an email. His midterm was ridiculously difficult, the class average was 52%. He told us just to relax and not worry about the midterms and to just get a good nights rest, can't wait to have to retake this course!

I have taken 500 level bio and chem classes and neither have come close to how much of a pain this class is. It's not notably difficult material, but the lectures aren't adding anything you can't get better from the text and he's useless to ask for help. The homework/tutorials didn't reflect the testing style, so midterm 1 tanked my grade.

I just wrote my first midterm with Kunio and right before we started he said "if some of you don't finish or feel like you have to rush through the whole thing, don't worry; I want to challenge you guys". I took this class with Kunio because I absolutely HAD to. He posts his lectures online, however, his teaching methods are absolutely terrible. His midterm/final questions are barely material in the curriculum. His writing assignment has no direction at all, nor is it related to the textbook. I wouldn't even recommend this class to my worst enemy.

There is one word to describe Kunio: Inconsistent. He is unclear about what he wants oil assignment with just a vague blurb and if it is not done specifically to his liking prepare for a trash mark. He also marks wickedly hard on tests and further will not explain why you got a certain mark. His office hours are useless. Honestly if you can avoid.

His lectures lack depth and his exams/assignments go over things not covered in class. He needs to step out of his imaginary world and realize his teaching methods are to blame and not the students. All together avoid him if you can, you will not learn much and will be left confused throughout the whole semester.

The worst professor I have ever had. Exams were not correlated to course or textbook material. Doesn't explain markings at all and failed me on my final. Had to request a reappraisal and they changed my mark A LOT. I ended up taking a CR. Even wrote a good summary article for this course and he gave me a D mark. Worst ECON professor I have ever had

This guy is absolutely terrible, he blames his failure as a teacher on the students. If an entire class cant understand the concepts you are teaching it is because you are failing to convey them in a useful manner.

Worst prof in all my econ courses. He just doesn't care when lot's of students complaining about his grading and teaching style, even himself said he has harsh marking. Final mark means everything, if you don't pass the final you fail the course, like these assignments and midterms don't mean nothing. Overall just don't take this guy's courses.

Kunio is a clown to put it nicely. He is literally the worst professor in the ECON department. He has a huge ego, blames his clear faults as a lecturer on the "lack of studying" from his students. His grading is extremely difficult. I was lucky to finish with a C and I put so much effort into this course. He's absolutely brutal. Avoid him.

Kunio is terrible. He doesn't know how to lecture properly and his slides are never sufficient enough to do well on his exams (although he always says that) Take this course with Hashmi if you can. I don't know anyone including myself who even slightly actually learned from this tool. He puts up an act like he cares about us, but it is an act :(

Kunio is someone you want to avoid at all costs. He is condescending and does not care about his students. His tests are unclear when compared to class material. He tells you that his tests will not be like his assignments and that is "okay." Gets upset when he reads poor reviews yet does nothing to help students.

Please avoid. Take this class with a different professor. Unclear grading and very low averages.

He is such a terrible professor I can't even begin to explain. His ego is through the roof and he is a complete joke. Acts like he cares, he always says he cares but he really doesn't. If he really cared he'd recognize how bad of a professor he is and what he does to students' mental health and actually change his ways. For the love of god avoid.

If the University wanted to improve our Econ department, they could start by telling Kunio to find a teaching job somewhere else... Overall the worst professor I have ever had. He is arrogant, rude and unwilling to accept that his teaching methods don't work for the majority of his students. He thinks his students are stupid & he had NO leniency or understanding considering the pandemic. He claims to care but he doesn't at all, actions speak louder than words & he was awful.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Midterm and final were nothing like the assignments and were very vague with what was being asked. Says he reads these reviews and blames the bad grades on his students, and that they don't have to do with his teaching style. FALSE. Very inconsistent and confusing with the marking. Do not listen to the 5/5 ratings.

Out of all the bad professors I've had Kunio is one of the worst. He is rude arrogant and blames his bad teaching on students. I can safely say I learned almost nothing in this class because he is such a bad teacher. The good reviews are the people who would be getting As no matter the prof, unlike those of us who actually need to be taught.

Does not care about his obviously bizarre methods. I know he reads students' reviews, so it's not like he isn't listening to our feedback. he just has no intention to change! He teaches as if he knows that we know what hes talking about from the get go. His marking is BRUTAL and the term paper literally has zero guidelines. Avoid at all costs.

Kunio's lectures seem to be very informative but the tests are way too hard. Expects you to go above and beyond with studying. Even presents information in the lecture slides and the textbook but disagrees with it when marking the tests. Way too hard of a marker.

Kunio's lectures are unnecessarily in-depth for a 200 lvl class and are extremely dry. So unless you have a keen interest in Econ, do not take this class with him. He isn't very accessible outside the classroom although he interacts a lot during class hours. Overall, I felt his lectures were rather boring and self taught myself the course.

I got PTSD from this prof. He's more of a grizzly bear than a genuine professor. Loves seeing everyone fail and hates just being a good guy. Made me hate my major and almost drop it.

Dr. Tsuyuhara does not deserve the personal attacks some students have made on this platform. That said, I don't think Dr. Tsuyuhara is an effective lecturer for most students. I don't appreciate how he is a hard marker primarily because he doesn't give students any guidance or effective feedback. As a student, it is very stressful to navigate.

His lectures have nothing to do with the assignments. He does not take emails or give any feedback. He is extremely rude I would not recommend taking this class.

This is the worse class I have ever taken. There is no objective measure of performance and he lets the class lead the lectures rather than covering any material. Plus, whenever I meet with him in office hours he is condescending and rude. This class has been a waste of time and this professor should be avoided.

I will say this, dr.T means well. However. The class was just discussion, and he does NOT have the skill to lead a discussion. He had no firm starting point or end point, so the discussion meandered for 75 minutes. By the end, I had learned absolutely nothing new. I have learned more from 10 minutes YouTube videos than a semester in this class.

Tsuyuhara is not capable of effectively teaching. Add to that; he comes across as rude, arrogant, and condescending to his students.

Kunio is like a producer who keep complaining and blaming the consumers who do not buy his product, while he never think about improve his product. Perfect example of market failure

Attendance is mandatory but when I came I left the lecture knowing less than I did before Grading is unfair and hard to understand what he wants. I got 2/5 and got a C, next assignment got 4/5 and still got a C

Most difficult prof I've ever had at the University of Calgary. Very few people can deal with the adversity.

If this class wasn't curved, i bet 100% of students would fail. kunio's standards are very high which i can't blame him at all. Take the advice from the previous ratings and drop any class that you have with kunio tsuyuhara.

The only merit of Mr Tsuyuhara is that he is really honest, he never pretend he is a good professor, he is just a straight forward terrible professor, and do everything he could to convince you that he is terrible at teach and communication

What frustrates me most about this professor is his hypocrisy. He claims to care about students and bans devices in class to improve focus, which is fair. But then he makes us buy a $150 textbook just to complete assignments he didn't even create or grade. It is lazy and contradictory to his supposed concern for our success.

If you want to fail Econ take this class. He will purposefully send an email out saying that he's made the midterm so long its impossible to finish in class then when you go do the midterm you will not be able to complete all the questions resulting in him giving you zero's on the questions you didn't answer causing you to fail the midterm.

He make students buy a usless textbook and do boring assigments while in other classes students are not required to. All the test are written and are harder than the test in other lectures. Do not join his class. His lectures are bad and he changes the textbook content as he pleases and spends more than half the class on things he later says are fun bonuses or not on the tests before the putting them on the test. he also makes you pay $150 for you to be able to access his homework which is worth 30% of your grade.

He tells you at the beginning of the term that he's a hard proff. Take it as a sign to drop the class. Exams are way to hard, lectures are incoherent, and your grades aren't posted online.

Kunio is very passive aggresive and highly dismissive. Students have no respect for him due to his terrible attitude and rude mannerisms. He is also terrible at teaching. It's disappointing to see that this is the quality of staff that is acceptable at this school.

He doesn't post grades, doesn't let you use any computer/phone/ipad for notes and will humiliate you infont of the class if you do, he is an extremely poor teacher, and his lectures are completely pointless.

There is no upside taking his class compared to other one's. You will learn less and be more stressed out.

The class isn't that difficult, the assignments are pretty straightforward but he will not post any grades online. Lectures were a waste of time. He gets lost and rambles about unnecessary topics. He seems passionate but I need him to teach me the actual material. Study the textbook, use chat gpt and you should be fine.

If you want to keep your sanity, avoid this guy. He hates tech, and doesn't allow anyone to use any form of tech to take notes. He talks about the 301 class all the time. Lectures are a waste of time. Exams are a mess but easy to pass if you read the textbook. I didn't pay for this. Save your money and do yourself a favour by choosing another prof.

RUN AWAY! AS FAST AS YOU CAN

Kunio is the absolute worst prof I had this semester. His notes are useless, his lectures do not help at all, the assignments are on achieve which you to pay for it. The only things that helped me getting a B- is using chat gpt to explain the concepts and attending tutorials; otherwise, I would have failed literally. JUST AVOID KUNIO AT ALL COST.

Kunio is a terrible professor. Strangely, he is proud of it as he showcases his bad reviews to the class to start the course. His lectures do not help at all, as he doesn't even teach half the time. UofC needs to figure out a better hiring strategy. Whatever you do, do not take this class, as it is a waste of money and brain cells.

I was in his class at the beginning of the semester, but I switched profs when I attended his first lecture. His accent is awful, and he gives all written exams. If you're taking Econ 201, I highly recommend Oxoby or Taylor.

Disrespectful attitude, directing a lot of attention towards negative behaviours in class (real or perceived). I experienced his class as hostile and antagonistic. Absolutely useless lectures. I learned significantly more from reading the textbook, which had the added bonus of being snark-free.

Please be smart and choose another prof, this is your sign to get a better prof, one that at least speaks english. Now im in econ 203 with another prof that is amazing, he even made fun of kunio haha but he is right, his method of teaching is the worst and thats why many of his students of econ 201 pick another prof for econ 203. Not writing this because I have a bad grade or out of hate as I ended all other class with A's. His lectures are useless and his notes don't make sense. The in class drawings he does not even post on D2L. All other profs have easier mc tests while his are written. His accent is hard to understand and notes are complete useless. Avoid him please.

WORSE PROF AT UOFC He can barely speak English, all his tests are written and I felt as if the allotted time wasn't enough, his lectures aren't coherent and he's a tough grader. On top all this, We're forced to pay a $100 fee just to do assignments. He must reevaluate his decision to become a prof. You're also not allowed to use tech in his class

He never gave proper feedbacks on what my mistakes were!!!!! Extremely Rude. Also gave me an F on my midterm project which takes 30% in my final grade and also didn't provide any explanation.

If you study the textbook and past exams you will be fine. I dont recomend lectures unless you want to be amazed how someone can talk for an hour and you somehow didn't get anything from it. I got A on both midterms, thanks to attending only two lectures before realizing I love myself and it would be better not to attend.

I took this class as an elective, but I immediately realized it was a mistake. Overall, not a bad prof but the grading criteria and expectations are very unclear, which makes it extremely difficult to grasp what is expected of you. I would not recommend this class at all.

Hundreds of dollars can do a lot of things, do not waste it on listening someone who barely speak English winging for four month, then give you a big red F in the end. It's not worth it.
