Kunio is just the worst professor I have ever had. There is no clarity in his lecture and if you ask him questions, he pretends that it is the student's fault that he/she doesn't understand this simple/clear concept. If I would get a cent for how many times he said "what do you mean?" in reply of a question...

Midterms are rough ti*ties. There is no room for failure in the face of Tsuyuhara-sama when it comes to grading (dat Japanese discipline). Guidelines to not getting rekt: 1. DO NOT SHOW WEAKNESS. 2. you will get rekt. 3. YOU MUST GET BACK UP. 4. work hard and it will pay off. 5. if all else fails, pray others are more stupid than you are.

I have taken 500 level bio and chem classes and neither have come close to how much of a pain this class is. It's not notably difficult material, but the lectures aren't adding anything you can't get better from the text and he's useless to ask for help. The homework/tutorials didn't reflect the testing style, so midterm 1 tanked my grade.

Disrespectful attitude, directing a lot of attention towards negative behaviours in class (real or perceived). I experienced his class as hostile and antagonistic. Absolutely useless lectures. I learned significantly more from reading the textbook, which had the added bonus of being snark-free.

Kunio tended to overly explain simple topics while skimming over more difficult ones. In both midterms he only tests your ability to draw and explain graphs that he vaguely explained in class and won't post. All exams were long answer with 0 multiple choice. I wouldn't suggest taking this course with him if you are completely new to economics.

Please be smart and choose another prof, this is your sign to get a better prof, one that at least speaks english. Now im in econ 203 with another prof that is amazing, he even made fun of kunio haha but he is right, his method of teaching is the worst and thats why many of his students of econ 201 pick another prof for econ 203. NOBODY WANTS HIM!

Not writing this because I have a bad grade or out of hate as I ended all other class with A's. His lectures are useless and his notes don't make sense. The in class drawings he does not even post on D2L. All other profs have easier mc tests while his are written. His accent is hard to understand and notes are complete useless. Avoid him please.

Kunio is an absolute treasure, I really enjoyed his lectures. He is definitely different but good different. He doesn't let you use tech in class unless you're handwriting on a screen so get a stylus or bring paper. I'm taking 203 with him this semester and really look forward to it. his 201 wasn't hard, I passed with next to no effort.

I think Kunio gets too much hate. If you attend lectures and read the textbook like he suggests, you will end up with a good mark overall. The only work you had to do for this class outside the lectures was online multiple choice assignments every couple of weeks per chapter+read the textbook (and then midterm+final)

WORSE PROF AT UOFC He can barely speak English, all his tests are written and I felt as if the allotted time wasn't enough, his lectures aren't coherent and he's a tough grader. On top all this, We're forced to pay a $100 fee just to do assignments. He must reevaluate his decision to become a prof. You're also not allowed to use tech in his class

Kunio is great, he clearly cares deeply about his students and takes the time during lectures to explain each idea carefully. His no phone policy is great; as it forces you to listen to lectures and is meant to benefit you. He takes time to do a recap of every lecture through email. His tests are easy, they're written but not difficult questions.

Kunio has a different method of teaching than the cookie cutter education system. From the examples shared by other students, no grades were given that were unreasonable. Focus on growth instead of throwing a fit when you're told your academic writing needs work. The complaints are embarrassing and I hope everyone can improve, you'll need it.

He's an unconventional prof but Kunio cares about his students and wants them to succeed. You'll 100% learn something, it just probably won't be economics. Not for anyone who's scared of taking a hit to their GPA (like I probably will) but it's a thought-provoking class and you'll come out of it changed. Participate in class discussions!!

Don't take if you can't challenge or be flexible w your learning style (or if u have a very busy schedule). Attend office hours, apply feedback, and you'll probably do ok.
