The worst teacher I've ever had
Very difficult class, hard to understand, but can be realy funny!
You Can DO it!
hes a good teacher
hard to understand his accent, but easy
Awesome teacher. A quirky sorta funny, but very cool. He knows what he's teaching, and does it very well. If you are gonna take any math classes where he is teaching, try and get him, you shouldn't regret it.
Great teacher, exam problems are exactly from example in class. Knows his stuffs well. Take him for easy A.
Easy for a math teacher. Very fun to learn from. Explains the materially very clearly. Test questions are right out of book sometimes. Do the homework and you'll be fine.
Good teacher.
Awesome teacher, very nice and understanding. Don't miss class and do ALL of your homework. Tests can be tricky if you don't recall your trig functions. Funny guy. Watch out for the "culprits".
Awesome professor. Do all your homework twice and go to class everyday you will ace the tests. "No Problem"
Excellent Prof.
DO ALL THE HOMEWORK! Twice, or three times if necessary!! Very fair and wants you to learn the material. Tests are fair and come mainly from the homework - no curves, you pick 5 of 6 questions to answer. DO THE HOMEWORK and you will pass easily.
Not Original thinker
Fantastic teacher. Go to class every day and pay attention because he's a lot easier to understand than the book. Do the homework and ask him for help on the projects. He really wants you to pass his class so if you need more help, go to office hours.
Great professor. Explains thoroughly with lots of examples. Pratice exams which are almost verbatim to the exam unless otherwise stated. Very friendly and willing to help. Slight accent, but understandable. If he warns you about mistakes he sees frequently, TAKE NOTE. Always show to class and take notes. Do not underestimate SEQUENCES AND SERIES!
He was as cool as a math teacher could be. Go to class.
not a boring teacher and tests were fair.
really easy class, show up, take notes, and do hw. If u do that you will get an A or B. He's pretty funny sometimes too.
I loved this class!! Dr. KV is a great teacher and a nice guy. Everything was clear and interesting!
Very strong accent, hard to understand at times. Really good teacher though. Come to class, do the homework, and STUDY hard and you will be okay.
Very Good at showing examples and he cares about you learning. He is very sympathetic. At times he can be hard to understand but he says the same thing a different way so you will understand. Very good teacher!!
"Suppose Say..." Alright teacher. Cares if people do well or not. Tests are kind of hard.
First of all, he's hard to even understand. And in all of the math classes ive taken in my life, ive never seen anyone do problems the way he does. His teaching style is confusing, and I did not find it helpful.
I would not recommend this teacher. His accent is very difficult to understand and he has trouble understanding English. If you need help or have a question he is often unable to answer. Tests are not too difficult, but he gives 'projects' which are not even covered in course material.
I had him in Summer 2008. He was very good at teaching us the material, and we did examples in class. His tests were challenging, but if you did the problems he assigned, you should do well. He also grades pretty fairly. He is also a very friendly professor and very approchable. He does have an accent, but you can understand what he says.
Attendance is mandatory. Very good professor. I feel like I really learned a lot and know more than the C I got. Partially my fault but test start easy and get hard. Some involve calc that I didn?t remember like sin(2u) = 2sin(u)cos(u) and power series. Tests come from mainly the hard problems in the book.
Special Functions class. Excellent professor - very helpful and got me excited about this abstract graduate material.
Dr. KV is a great professor. He doesn't skip steps like many others and he is very easy to understand. His tests in Special Functions are very fair. Half were take-home, half in-class. The in-class tests all contained problems right from the notes or the homework (or even a previous test).
Very good teacher and a nice guy too. Grades harshly, but fairly. Very reasonable test questions, all from hw and in-class problems. Go to class and do the homework and you'll be fine. I learned a lot and I'm planning on taking his classes in the future.
He is a good teacher. Does a good amount of problems in class so it is clear to the students. His tests are fair. All you gotta do is show up, do ALL the hw he assign, and practice the problems he does in class. If you do that, you will pass w/o a problem. Plus he's a very funny guy. Also helpful if you to his office hours
Strongly recommend this professor. He does plenty of examples and helps with whatever you don't understand. His test can be a little difficult but there are no curveballs, if you did the homework then the test will be easy. Plus he a very funny guy just do the work and you should get an A
Good professor. He teaches with ppts straight from the book. The tests are easy if you do the hw and know how to do the examples he gives in class. He's funny and VERY motivational; "There's no difference between you and me. It may take me one try and you two, but you can do it."
Dr KV is funny and responds well to class concerns as there was almost a riot in our class because the TA's took off the help me solve this button in my math labs and he had them put it back on immediately. But there does need to be an SI for this class b/c every person I met had already failed calc once and this was their second go for the course
Dr. KV is a blast. He presents info in a very straightforward manner. Take good notes and the class is easy.
Suppossay, this professor has no business teaching Intro to Biotechnology. This class is not the cake. Do you mind if I tell you that I now have to take this class again? Maximum effort, maximum smarts.
He is funny and a nice guy, who is willing to help you. But you sit in class and take notes as he tries to explain a powerpoint he has never looked at before. Although attendance is mandatory, you could just go sleep because it's easier to just teach yourself the material. I'm failing this class and I have never gotten below a 95 in a math class.
I personally felt like I understood the material, but the test problems were often obscure. I had Ms. K. who was great, and seemed to care about her students the most. KV is funny...Supposay, simple solutions to complicated problems. He also resets the iClicker questions like once a class which is entertaining. I got a C-
KV is a great professor. Do well on the skills tests, get a's on your hw, and go to class. I missed two application sessions and two lectures. It's worth going to class just to enjoy his sense of humor. My skills tests were b,c,f,d. In class were 38, 68, 58, 81. I ended up getting a C.
If you have prior knowledge of calc like from AP, you'll be fine. If you don't then this class will be a lot of work. I got an A in the class, just do the homework and make use of your TA's hours. Don't loose points for stupid things like attendance and homework!
Pretty good professor. Exams and quizzes are fair.
Great teacher. Had him for Calc 1 and differential equations. Fair tests with partial credit. Easy homework assignments that help with class understanding and count for 10% of grade.
DR. KV,He is a man who is incredibly passionate about his students learning. However,I found it near impossible to keep my focus durring his early class. Many of my peers did incredibly well, so i am assuming the fault is my own. He will help you as much as possible, so long as you put in your side of the effort. would take again.
This teacher is fairly incomprehensible. His thick Indian accent made the class impossible to pay attention to. He just reads from the powerpoint provided by the textbook and made several mistakes when trying to work out problems on his own. Attendance is required through the use of graded iClicker questions so learn it before you get to class
Reads off his notes, doesn't teach anything. Very confusing class. Pretty much taught myself DE. That being said, the class is passable but it takes a decent amount of work.
Great guy who knows his stuff, but for diffy q try to get another professor. The guy doesn't speak english that well, which would normally be acceptable, but in a difficult class like this it makes for huge issues. The tests are really hard, applying everything you know with at least one trick question per test. Compared to others this guy is hard.
His lectures, in this course, were not clear. He would jump around (often mid-sentence) and I can't imagine how difficult it would be for someone not already familiar with the subject content. He has a bad habit of not answering direct questions. In an effort to leave the final project open for our desire, he failed to give us adequate guidelines.
Dr. KV was the toughest professor I have had. He has good notes, but he just reads off of them way too fast during class. I could not even copy down his notes because he would flip through them quickly; thankfully he posted them online. The homework we had was ridiculous and nothing like the exams. Make sure you review his notes and you'll pass.
He uses printed out notes that he puts on a Dotcam and he goes really fast - too fast to take notes - but he also provides the notes a day or 2 before on WC. Very clear problems in both the notes and the nongraded HW he assigns although the Online Wileyplus HW sucked - way too hard and different from class material. Test problems worth a lot
Has an accent, but after a week or so you get used to it. He isnt the best at answering questions in class, but he really does an excellent job explaining concepts. Don't study the homework, study his in class examples, as those are what will be on the test. Homework isn't too helpful as it doesn't reflect what he did in class. Would take again.
Dr. KV's accent was kinda hard to adjust to at first, but eventually I got used to it. His lectures weren't very clear, but he did plenty of practice problems which helped me understand the material. He prepares you well for the tests, just go through and do the textbook problems he assigned and you'll be fine.
Granted I suck at math, Prof Vajravelu really did nothing for me in terms of helping me understand trig. Lectures were confusing and directionless. Unless you're okay spending hours being tutored in the math lab or are good at teaching yourself, I would not recommend him.
Strong accent but understandable I guess. I personally don't like the way he lectures, but he does do lots of examples. Tests are hard and too many questions for the time constraints. Class requires lots of outside studying and ungraded HW to pass. You HAVE to go to class or you absolutely will not pass (at least for Calc 3).
His accent is easy to understand. The best calculus professor I've come across. He does not picked the hardest questions are tries to make students fail.
Avoid this professor at all costs. Hands down the worst instructor I've had for literally anything in my life. "Lectures" consist of breezing through textbook slides, and doing a few rushed examples. You will need to teach yourself nearly everything. I was above average in Calc 1 & 2, and I barely passed this class. Save your GPA with another prof.
I'm convinced that any professor who makes tests 100% of the grade, doesn't care much about the success of the students. His lectures were great and easy to take notes from. It was just a lot of information to remember for the tests. He assigned homework, but it wasn't for a grade. If it was a grade, it would have helped a lot with the test grades.
Nice guy and explained things well. If you understand the examples he provides and the questions from the book then you'll do just fine. I read some of these other reviews before I signed up and tried to avoid him because of it, but now that I'm reaching the end of the class I'm glad I have him as a teacher. Nothing to be scared of.
The beginning of the semester he wrote on the board & then he uploaded the notes online & would project them on the board & just read through them. Print the notes bc he can go fast sometimes. He gave little homework that wasn't graded & tests were similar to examples. Grade made up of only 4 tests. Overall, he was a fine professor. Would recommend
I say attendance is non-mandatory but if you want to do well go to class. He makes tests completely based on in class questions and assigned homework. The problems he gives to do at home are not graded, just webassign. Calc 2 is hard, but knowing which questions can be on the exams (even if there are 40+ of them) helps out a lot.
Not a bad teacher, considering that Calculus 2 is just hard. His tests were based on assignments (non-graded) he gave from the book, and in class examples. Partially teaches from a PowerPoint. Webassign homework is the only homework graded. Keeping on top of everything, unlike myself, will yield a good grade.
Calculus II is hard, but he is an excellent teacher. His tests are fair, just do the example problems in class, as well as the graded WebAssign and ungraded book assignments. He was one of the most entertaining professors I have ever had, but he still taught us all of the necessary material. Would definitely take him again.
Dr. KV is a good choice, some of the reviews on here make him seem like a far worse professor than he actually is. Make sure you go over the in-class examples and if he is going over slides during the lecture make sure you print them out beforehand.
One of the worst profs I have taken. He just lazily reads off the PowerPoint notes he has (handwriting is very confusing). Outside resources are a must to understand the material since he is like a text to speech app when it comes to "lectures" since he reads everything line by line. Tests are fair but lots of homework.
He's a good guy and can answer questions you may have, though is sometimes a little sassy when answering questions. When I took him there were only exams as grades. If you do well on them then you're good, but a lot of studying has to be done to make sure you do well. His notes were posted and info-rich. Explains things clearly.
His class consisted of going over the theorems for the lesson, then doing a bunch of practice problems. If you're someone who needs a step by step way of solving a problem this isn't the class for you. 100% of your grade is based on testing, so you have to be good at taking exams. That being said, he is very clear about what will be on the tests.
Dr. KV is a great professor. He doesnt pull questions out of thin air, as he likes to say. Every question that he asks on the quizzes and tests are straight from the homework or the lecture. Though there are a lot of problems to choose from, he does give subtle hints that he might ask a certain question. Just pay attention and itll be ok.
One of the most misunderstanding professors I've ever had. I was sick and had to go to the ER and he didn't understand me when I wanted to makeup the exam I missed. He also makes fun of student's responses to exam questions in front of the class and makes you feel stupid. He grades very few things, just quizzes and exams. Lectures are just slides.
Dr. KV is nice but I found his style of lecture (reading off of slides and doing examples) incessantly tedious and convoluted at times. It didn't help that my lecture section was from 6:30-8:20 pm (which was very very tiring). Make sure to read the textbook as its where he got most of his information from. I often would pull it up as he talked.
Summer '22. Amazing hand-written notes uploaded on WC well before material was to be covered (you can get ahead). Reinforces understanding w/ many practice problems in class & for HW. Practice problems are comparable to exam/quiz questions. Amazing English (not monotone, speaks loud & clear). Possibly the #1 math professor at UCF.
Calc 2 is known for being hard. He makes it easy. His tests and quizzes are entirely based off of homework (which isn't graded), but do them anyway. I failed the midterm, but allows for a replacement based off of your final. Don't slack off, do the homework, review it several times over and know the concepts. Calc 2 is not a joke.
Is very standoffish, and in the last class told us that he would not upload notes for future classes, so good luck reviewing if you have him in the future. Lectures are difficult to understand as PowerPoint presentations are handwritten and scanned. No problem is done in real time and the slides can be illegible. His test reviews are accurate.
Easily One of the worst professors I've had. Gives snarky remarks whenever a question is asked and is usually followed by "I already explained that." Doesn't answer emails. Posted solutions to previous tests and quizzes at 5pm the night before the 7am final. Said he is not posting slides in future semesters.
1 thing I learned from Mathematics, it's all rigorously proven so there's no room for discussion or questions. That means if you have a silly question and you ask K.V. it, he will rip you apart like you should already know it. I like that he keeps the standards high and his course material is easily outlined. Just don't get on his bad side :)
he's really hard to talk to, but his grading is fair and all the questions on the tests are question that were either assigned for homework or done in class.
Solid professor overall. His blunt responses can discourage questions, which is unfortunate, but he does a good job explaining the material and making sure the class is ready for exams. Exams were 90% of the course grade but mostly contained recycled homework problems, so they are not too difficult if you put in the work to prepare for them.
Can be rude and condescending to students sometimes, and gets off track frequently, but still a great teacher. Assigns optional HW, but do it anyway since all quiz/test questions are taken directly from HW problems. Fair grader, no extra credit.
The class grade is based entirely on exams and quizzes. The exams and quizzes are generally pretty fair, the notes are good on showing what will be on them. All class notes are posted. Homework wasn't mandatory or graded. The final was far more difficult than previous exams, but he'll round your final grade if you contact him about it.
Dr. KV was not great, but not terrible either. His class required a lot of work and studying- he breezes through slides very quickly; students are left to fill in the gaps after lecture. Additionally, there is no room for questions in his class. If you ask him a question, he gives a very snarky response and tells you to stop wasting time.
Reads from slides during class, doesn't do any examples in class. Slides were available before class, though. No nonsense attitude, so make sure questions are meaningful. Quizzes and tests were all fair.
Reads directly off slides all class. Exams & quizzes were very similar to the examples in notes (he tells you what topics will be on them question by question) but there is a ton of info to remember for every exam. Definitely takes a decent amount of effort. He can be condescending but honestly people asked some really dumb questions.
He has clear grading criteria: 90% of your grade is exams, including the final, and 10% is weekly quizzes, with one of six dropped. Homework is optional, and exams have clear outlines. Negatives are he reads slides directly and can be condescending when asked questions. Despite this, the class is well organized but requires a lot of studying.
All your grade comes from weekly quizzes and exams. He moves quickly, assumes you know everything so doesn't explain well, and posts very unclear lecture slides. To his credit, he grades generously and is all around not a terrible professor.
He is a smart dude who definitely knows his stuff but his teaching style isn't there. Don't even try to ask a question in his class because he will get mad at you and give a rude response. He flies through the lecture slides and doesn't really make sense. Tests are worth 90% of your final grade. Quizzes being the other 10%. I wouldn't take him.
By far the worst math professor at UCF. He presents slides during class and uses a pointer to go over them. He also does not write out each step to solving because he "knows how to do that already". The class is graded based on quizzes, 3 exams and a final. Exams are worth around 80% of your grade. The final is worse then all the exams combined.
First class ive taken with absolutely zero grade fluff. Three tests fro 20 %, quizzes are 10 % and final is 30 %. You get a 70 on the test you have a 70 in the class. He also goes unbearably fast and makes you feel stupid for asking any sort of question. His notes are sloppy and he assumes you alr know 95 percent of the steps
Professor KVs class was daunting coming into it and had me regretting taking it after. There is no homework and your grade is solely based on quizzes and tests no padding but you're thrown a dropped quiz and test grade. His teaching style was all over the place and left you scrambling to write down notes often missing slides of information daily.
Overall, his exams are difficult unless you really study his slides and know the concepts well. most questions came directly from the quizzes/lecture slides. he also allows the final to replace one of the 3 midterms if you score higher on the final.
Not receptive to questions and very condescending
He is very demanding when it comes to exams. Diff. Eq. is a difficult class and basically if you make one mistake when solving the problem, half of the problem will be incorrect so he will take away half points. 90% of the final grade are 3 exams and 1 final which is insane, no place to bring your grade up. So far the worst class at UCF. Do better
The killer factor of this class is the fact that we can't use ANY formula sheet, Absolutely nothing but your pencil and test paper. The exams are graded super heavily, 3 exams each worth 20 percent and the final being worth 30. Quizzes are worth 10. The guy goes through lectures at the speed of light and will not help you.
The class is very test heavy so be prepared to study. No homework that is worth any grade, all tests and quizzes. He flys through lectures and will not answer your questions, but he does give you exact what will be on each test and quiz so as long as you review you should be fine. I would say best option for MAP2302.
