All lecture, thought it would be very hard but turned out easier then thought. The huge research paper was graded with a check plus or minus. I'm not done yet but it looks like I'll be getting an A

Borkman rules. I've been in three of his classes, and love him to bits. He's funny, laid back, a great guy and a good personal friend now. You have to work for your grade, his grading system is fair. You get what you put into it.

Great Teacher, he tells you what he wants from the first day. You do three things throughout the whole semester (midterm, paper, final) before the midterm and final he specifically tells you whats going to be on the tests.

Take this class if you want to actually LEARN something. Do not take this class for an easy A, in no way is it easy. Borkman is that teacher you will remember when you're 90 years old.

Professor Borkman is the best teacher. He knows what hes talking about, and has such a passion for it. He will explain things clearly and have fun with the class. Its impossible to get anything lower than a B. He hates paper work as much as a student, so he avoids it by having like a total of 3 assignment the whole semester. good class......

The most amazing instructor I have ever had, hands down. He cares so much about his subject and his students. Montgomery College is lucky to have him, and I urge all students who have the chance to take a class with him.

Dr. Borkman enjoys his interaction with the students. He allows students access to his office any time of day. I enjoyed the way he incorporated maps into his lectures. The workload was just right. He has a gift for teaching and a heart full of passion. He has become one of the greatest friends I have ever had.

Dr. Borkman is such an amazing teacher, definitely the best I've had at MC so far. Before taking his class I was a very unmotivated student and he completely turned that around for me. I'm taking one of his classes next semester cause he's so awesome. Definitely try to take something with him if you can!!!!

Borkman is a prime example of what GREAT education is about! Even if you are uninterested in his subjects, he makes it a powerhouse of excellent information and fun subjects. He will also ramble at great length about box wine, which is some of the funniest stuff I've ever heard in a class. RECOMMENDED!!!

Dr. Borkman is amazing. He makes learning actually fun and he has great stories and details to share with the class. "Take is classes to make yourselves sexier individuals"-he says this, and let me tell you he is totally sexy!

He is THE BEST! Everyone shoould take his class even if they are not intrested in history, but why wouldn't you be interested in history anyway? He is very nice, caring, helpful, funny...And VERY smart and def knows what he's talking about. If you study for his class, you'll do well. He lectures the whole time,what he says is interesting.

Just finished my second semester with Dr. Borkman. AMAZING PROFESSOR! I plan on taking all of the courses he teaches if I can. He relates to his students like none other and is one of my own personal role models. Dr. Borkman really motivates you.. and even though he doesnt take attendance, I promise you won't want to miss a class!

My favorite professor so far in college. Not big on assignments, only 3; midterm, paper, and final. You'd be trying real hard to fail if you get anything lower than a B. In order to get an A you just have to put a little bit of effort.

He pretty much tells you what to study for the exams, but in order to pass you actually have to do the studying.

Favorite teacher I ever had. Attendance isn't "mandatory" but tests are completely based off lectures so go and take good notes, if you can't make it, get a classmate to send you the notes and you'll be fine. You won't need the textbook at all. I would go back to MC just to take from Borkman again. Best experience EVER.

Borkman has changed my life: history is now my favorite subject. I have decided to minor in it because of him. He's THE BEST professor to step foot on Montgomery College grounds. He's such an amazing human being and he deserves some type of worldly recognition. His stories are hilarious and he will seriously change your mind about history and life.

A great professor makes you feel like a co-conspirator. Dr B succeeds at this. Historical figures aren't just colorless names and dates. He turns them into rich personalities, brings them to life. You don't have to come to class, but you'll want to. Most importantly, he allows time for silliness. I cannot recommend him highly enough.

I took PS121 & HS151 with Dr. B. The format is similar in both. Dr. B lectures throughout the entirety of the course, with funny stories interjected. Dr. B is quite knowledgable (Ann Arbor), answers questions with ease, and has a real passion for teaching. He is absolutely clear on the test material, but it is not easy. Highly recommend.

Really awesome professor! I didn't do too well on the paper but got an A on the MidTerm. Attendance isn't mandatory, but he does know who attends and who doesn't. Simple format: Midterm Paper Final and nothing else. Would recommend him to anyone!

If you need any history class at all, TAKE HIS CLASS. It's interesting and hilarious, and you will actually look forward to going. He's one of the best profs at MC. When he's not making jokes or teaching cool facts, he also says some really deep things that make you think about life. I can't recommend him enough.

He really simplifies the notes for you while adding on a dash of his humor. Great, enthusiastic professor who gives you real world advice as well. Just show up, take the notes, study, do the essays (which are CAKE WALK if you show up) and voila, easy A.

I'm in his 161 class right now and he might just be the funniest professor in the state of Maryland. He is hilarious, makes bar jokes, teaches at a good pace, and keeps everyone engaged. Probably the best teacher at M.C. Class consists of 1 essay and 2 exams which you have plenty of time to get ready for. Has a great sense of humor, have to be the type to take a joke though. He's not hard on attendance but I dont know why anyone would want to miss his class. His teaching made me want to come to school.

I LOVE THIS CLASS! I personally don't like history at all, but i have to say this class is awesome! Kurt is very clear in his lecture and make class very interesting. You will NEVER get bored in his class. Just attend class everyday and take good notes while he lectures and you will guarantee to get an A. I didn't use my book at all just my notes.

I took him for two classes in spring 2014. I also attended a prestigious private high school in the area with an amazIng faculty however I can say hands down this was the best teacher I have ever had the opportunity of being taught by. If you are majoring in history, or you need distributive credits, TAKE HIS CLASSES!!! Professor Borkman combines history, great insight, capturing lectures, and completes it with an absolutely hilarious since of humor! He is a lecturer strictly - no power points or handouts but his lectures are great! Very interesting and he always tells great stories and jokes. A really funny and relate able guy, but definitely come to class prepared to do A LOT OF WRITING!

All essays no real tests not to clear on what he wanted. At the point many people in my class are getting Cs and Bs if you know something it's an automatic C . But VERY HARD for an A I do not like all the essays

There's only a midterm, final, and 1 paper, so not too much work. There's literally no way someone could fail his class unless they were incredibly lazy.

K.U.R.T 3000 is hilarious and very understanding. There aren't that many tests or quizzes , all you will get is a mid term, an essay and a final.

This guy is just fun like I attend his class to feel good. Realistically, all you need to do is write an in class essay, a take home essay and the final to pass the course. I have never done European History before, but Dr. B. made this course a breeze of an air for me. I would highly recommend him.

Kurt Borkman, or Dr. B, is freaking awesome! I loved his European History class that I took Political Ideologies the next semester just so I could take another course with him. His class is made up of lectures, and he doesn't provide power points, but because of his enthusiasm and eloquence you will want to attend every class. Dr. B is the best!

He gives two exams and one paper. That's his policy for all of his classes. He is very straight forward when it comes to his expectations on the exams and paper. You won't regret taking him,especially if you weren't a great fan of history you will most likely find it interesting.

I was recommended to his class from so many and I finally was able to get a seat and all I could say is WOW!!!!!! He is such an amazing professor. He teaches in a very cool yet classy way, with no projector boards. Hes not one of those teachers who literately stand behind their desk and on their computers, he actually interacts with his students.

It's not an easy class. You do have to work for your grade. However, Dr. B is very humorous and makes the class fun (He always has a funny story to tell). Hilarious. Looked forward to coming to class. Favorite professor and made me enjoy history. He's so funny and cares for students. Pay attention and you'll pass with flying colors.

He is super simple and straight to the point. He's also really funny and kind. He is such a easy grader. The only thing I didn't like was that he didn't use power points. I am horrible at history and I hate it so that would of helped me a lot more but he's simple.

The coolest dude you will ever meet. I don't even like history, but Prof. B makes it fun. He always has a funny story to tell and cracks so many jokes. He's very understanding and is straight to the point. Honestly the best professor I have ever had!

Good professor

Dr. Borkman is one of the best professors at MC. He makes class very interesting and is always telling funny stories in class. He is passionate and genuinely loves what he teaches. He is very approachable and willing to be as helpful as possible for you to succeed in the class. The class has few assignments but he gives you what you need to pass.

He is all the good things above. He is very caring which immediately drew me to him, every day had HILARIOUS jokes that you wouldn't want to miss class to miss, made you actually interested in history and really made me feel like a more interesting and cool person afterward. I took two of his classes back to back and couldn't be happier.

This teacher was an absolute pleasure to have. His lectures make you WANT to show up for class. He makes European history fun, exciting, and relatable to our modern-day lives. He's kind to all of his students and his passion for history is infectious. The best part is he is very light on assignments and will prepare you very well for your tests.

Seriously one of the best professors I've ever had. We had three assignments throughout, a paper, a mid-term, and a final. Note taking is very important as it's heavily used for the paper & tests. When taking the tests you have to know exactly what you're going to write and how to write it or else you'll run out of time so STUDY STUDY STUDY!

By far, Kurt J. Borkman is one of the greatest professors a student could wish for a respectful, caring and hilarious individual. Also, there is only a mid-term exam, an optional essay, and a final exam--very slight, to say the least. Moreover, if you pay heed to his teachings and attend class, you will do just fine.

Dr. B is AMAZING! Before I took any classes with him, I had taken one history class at MC, which I dropped because the professor made no sense. However, Dr. B got me into European history. His jokes are amazing. He doesn't only care about you as a student, but also as a person. He is such a good role model. I also took HIST147 and POLI206 with him.

Dr. B is the product of philosophy, thus he is a good man. If all college courses were taught in his manner of teaching then I probably would stay in school. Great dad stories. Well rounded man. Highly recommend.

Professor Borkman is an easygoing teacher who knows his stuff. He is well-spoken, loving, inspirational, and revered. Everyone who enjoys history but dislikes a ton of work should take one of his classes. All of his classes encompass one mid-term, an optional paper, and a final exam. An elementary class, to say the least. Overall, he is great!

I have taken all three courses offered by Dr. Borkman simply because I love the subjects and his teaching style. This professor is the real deal, one you would not find anywhere else. A one of a kind with a true passion for what he teaches, and he knows how to get even the disinterested students engaged. Excellent class sessions that ensure an A.

Great professor! I took POLI206 online and the only tests given were the midterm and final, which sounds scary but if you listen to the lectures and take notes you will do fine. Concepts that may be on the midterm/final are given so you can prepare really well.

I'm the type who only loves a class if I get an A. This is an exception (I got a B). This professor is hilarious and I actually learned from most lectures. You can tell he actually prepares for lectures. I found the class more challenging than other students but felt very satisfied with the grade i received.

Dr. B is amazing! He is always accessible outside of class. The class goes by so fast. The exams are cleared and straightforward.

My biggest regret during my time at MC was not taking Dr. B sooner. He is AMAZING. One of the very best instructors MC has to offer, truly. His old-school lecturing style was refreshing, his lectures were incredibly engaging, and his care and attention to students are unbeatable. Take lots of notes and show up! You will learn so much with Dr. B.

I love, love, LOVE Dr. B! He is hands down the best professor I have ever had (this is coming from a recent UMD grad). I am blessed to call him a good friend even though it has been two years since I took his classes. He is quick to respond to emails, which is a relief. He could always tell if I was having a bad day and was very comforting.

Professor Borkman is a legend. He actually cares about his students and wants them to succeed. He makes history lectures fun and engaging by telling them like a story rather than a series of major historical occurrences to be memorized. You do have to pay attention and put in work, but Professor Borkman's topics are always fascinating.

This is my second time taking the professor and it was as good as the first. He knows what he's teaching and makes learning the subject entertaining. The lessons were easy to understand and he only grades 3 essays which he provides good feedback. Dr. B is retiring now so but I'm glad I was able to participate in his final lecture at MC.
