Covers a lot of material in 10 weeks. Demanding but fair. Very responsive to student questions both in class and via email. Lots of fun, too.
Kurt is a great professor! He covers a lot in class, but he makes it fun, listens and is super patient with everyone. He is highly regarded by all of his students and a great professor all around.

The instructor brought his personalized experience to the class with a great personality. Extremely helpful, timely, & practical. I was challenged. Great learning! Exceeded expectation!!!
Kurt does a great job of navigating the class through complex investment concepts in a thoughtful manner. He is patient with questions and more than willing to help students during the day while he tends to his day job. If he were to teach another investment class, I would be eager to take it knowing I would gain alot from his teaching.
Kurt is a fabulous teacher! He knows the course material inside and out, and is able to expalin very complex topics in a way that makes them comprehensible and applicable to real life situations. He is extremely approachable and never makes students feel like they are asking dumb questions. He was easy to contact despite not having office hours.
Kurt Carrasquilla by far has been the most effective professor in the program. He creates a fun learning environment where everyone participates. He has a great ability to simplify complex material so everyone at all levels can fully understand. I highly recommend him as a professor for people who really want to learn!
Kurt was a great teacher. He was always on topic and sharp in presentation of his information. The additional exercises (outside of text material) was useful and allowed us to use our new skills in real world situations.
Kurt was a very organized and engaging professor. Though the class was quite large, he always had everyone's attention. He was very thorough and demanding, though not unreasonable. He was easily approachable and always available to the students.
Kurt was fabulous. He was personable, approachable, available, intelligent, patient (even with those annoying opinionated classmates). Best instructor I've had in ages! Best teacher I had at UCB Extension. Very structured and organized. Defined clear expectations. I wish all the teachers for the CFP program were as good as Kurt. Top-notch level.
I enjoyed Kurt's class very much. There was a lot of information to cover like any other class that is condensed to a few meetings. Despite this Kurt is so organized that he was able to cover all topics with sufficient detail to give someone without much knowledge on the subject a very good overview. I would highly recommend Kurt as a teacher!
Kurt, Thanks for making this an interesting class!
Kurt teaches an enjoyable and interesting class. He is knowledgeable, approachable, and interacts well with students.

He provided easy access for students to contact him. In his classes he promoted group projects and active student participation
Kurt is a very knowledgeable and dedicated professor. He spends extra energy and time to make sure that all students are on track. I highly recommend taking the investments class.
Kurt's strength is his ability to choose selections from the text that are appropriate for the variety of students in the class and then to explain clearly that exactly these sections, equations, and terms will be on the tests. He doesn't overload you with work yet it is difficult enough so that you are gratified when you do well. Very good prof!
Kurt's teaching style made this class really fun. He used a variety of teaching methods (lecture, small group, class discussion, etc) to make the material seem very relevant and interesting to his students. I'm going to miss being in the class!
Kurt is very knowledgeable about the subject matter & clearly passionate about his field. However, what differentiates him is that he's a natural teacher. Kurt guided us through a subject that was intense & intimidating; he challenged us without breaking us.
Kurt really made the material come alive by using a variety of teaching methods (small group case studies, lecture, class discussion) and by relating the material to real-life situations. He's very organized in how he presents the material and he has a great presentation style. I'll miss the Tuesday night current event discussions!
Kurt takes a very difficult topic and makes it easy to understand by giving very clear parameters of relevant sections of the textbook, in-class group activity, anecdotes from the real world and encouraging students with relevant professional experience to share their opinions.
Kurt is a seasoned security industry expert. He takes a complex subject and makes it fun for someone who has never owned a stock or a bond, to even the most seasoned trader. Once you have completed Kurt?s class you will come away with practical day-to-day knowledge that you can apply immediately and take the CFP exam.
He provides practical exercises to reinforce concepts. He gives a very clear picture of the topic and makes the complex topics easy to understand.
Kurt is really approachable and smart. His tales of how to deal with different situations one encounters with clients are really insightful.
I learned so much in Kurt's class. The subject matter has always been intimidating to me but he breaks it down so easily, that I learned it so quickly. He is extremely supportive and knowledgeable too. Everything that you would want in an instructor.

His lecture was straightforward and well prepared. Class discussion was insightful and helpful for understanding content. I highly recommend Kurt!!!
Kurt is exceptionally pleasant, approachable, and dedicated to his topic. Of the six courses I've taken in the Financial Planning program, this was the easiest--partly because he made his expectations so clear and provided good guidance in what to study.
Being an international student whose major wasn?t Biz, I joined this class with a minimal understanding Kurt was extremely well prepared for each class and offered me great support and encouragement! His class discussion was also helping me to understand investment. I would highly recommend Kurt to anyone interested in an investments course.
I read Kurt's reviews before taking the class, and I'll confirm that he's a great teacher. I don't work in the financial industry, so I was a little worried at first about the scope and complexity of the material covered. But Kurt presented it in a cogent, clear manner so that it was easy to grasp the concepts and practical applications.
I took Kurts class this last semester. I've been in the brokerage industry for many years and thought this would be a piece of cake. It wasn't.. but it was not "hard" either. He really makes you see the big picture when dealing with people's money/ portfolios. He makes you think and gives you the tools you need to be a good in your profession

The class was a very enjoyable learning experience. Kurt made a difficult subject much easier to understand. His lectures and materials were very easy to follow. The current event discussion sessions were very helpfu. He often injected real life examples into his lectures, which made the learning much interesting. I highly recommend it.
Kurt is very clear in his expectations for his students. You know what you need to do to earn an A. He is also very clear on the assignments and going over homework questions and study material. Of the three courses I have taken to date toward my CFP, Kurt's was clearly the best teacher.
The instructor is knowledgeable, has a well-organized syllabus and conducts classes covering an extensive amount of material. During each class time is given for discussion, homework correction, lecture and group activities supporting the assigned topics. Tests are relevant.I recommend this friendly, approachable instructor without reservation.

His class is extremely well organized and structured from week 1 through 10 - course materials & expectations are clearly identified. Great learning experience. I strongly recommend Carrasquilla's Investment class.
Investments Class, required class for the Professional Sequence in Personal Financial Planning at UC Berkeley Extension. If you don't read the text book you will find it hard to follow the lectures, but Kurt is always available for questions. Kurt provides the lecture slides before the lecture so you can see what he emphasizes from the reading.
The course has its academic challenges but Kurt will guide students along the way. Kurt sets the gold standard of excellence in teaching. His passion and commitment to teaching and genuine concern for students sets him apart. An all-time favorite Instructor of many students. He is one of the nicest person you will ever meet.

He is able to apply a wealth of real-world experience and always kept class discussion and lecture on topic.
Kurt is an amazing and knowledgeable instructor, by far the best in the program! He is genuinely invested in the students and a willing resource when called upon. He presents all material in a well thought out structure and clearly articulates the expectations for the class.
Solid
Investments in PFP with Kurt probably set my expectations too high for future PFP classes. I especially appreciated how tightly organized it was - each session was engaging and efficient, with excellent lectures and group work. The HW & tests were challenging, but very straightforward and logically connected to the course. Best class in PFP!
Kurt has the gift of teaching. He is prepared, knowledgeable, a good listener and genuinely cares about students and learning. I was impressed as to how much importance he places on the ethics of investing and educating clients. He models being a CFP extremely well.

Kurt is an excellent investments teacher. Well organized, uses class time wisely. Very effective teaching methods. Uses relevant grp exercises & class project. Very responsive & motivating. Took the class for personal interest, now exploring PFP as 2nd career due to very positive class experience. I highly recommend Kurt.
Outstanding instructor -- clear, patient, and a great listener. He made a 3 hour night class go by fast -- a very difficult task considering most of the students were coming straight from a long work day. I came in with minimal knowledge on the subject matter, and left eager to invest more and gain more experience in the field. Highly recommended.
Kurt was exemplary and extremely personable! He was punctual, well prepared and organized. The course syllabus and expectations were clearly communicated. He was available before, during, after and outside of class. While the Investment concepts are generally digestible, pay VERY close attention to the formulas, memorize and practice them!!!

After going through many organizations including UC Berkeley and Biotechnology companies I can say with authority that Kurt is an incredible communicator, an expert in his field an a great person. Many professors and leaders should take this class so they learn how to teach. Rare to find
Mr. Carasquilla is a great teacher. He used an advanced level textbook but made the subject understandable by focusing on specific parts of the text. The lectures were precisely tailored to the readings, homework, and exams. He covered a great deal of material very effectively. I highly recommend this instructor.
Kurt brought practical knowledge, investing expertise and personal enthusiasm. His teaching covered conceptual topics, real-life examples and thought-provoking insights that challenged us to think for ourselves. I felt that he prepared us for what's to come for both the CFP exam but also in dealing with clients as CFPs. Thank you, Kurt!
This is not an "easy" class. The exams require the use of many formulas to compute various investment principals. Kurt is very structured & organized. Grading expectations are made absolutely clear, which I appreciated. It is clear from the lectures that Kurt is very knowledgable in the subject matter. Overall, a great class.
Excellent quality
Kurt is an excellent instructor. He has both theoretical and practical knowledge of the subject matter. Kurt has a unique ability to make difficult subjects easier to understand. The prof is organized, timely and he respects his students. He responded to our questions with great consideration and care Additionally, he brought together the textbook material, current events and case studies. This is a fantastic class! Kurt kept the classes interesting with great lectures, interactive discussions about current events and small group work. The project and tests reinforced everything we learned in class. I would highly recommend this class to anyone interested in investments.
Kurt's Investments Class for the PFP program is the best in the series. The class is well structured, organized, and relevant. He covers a great deal of material and does it thoughtfully and effectively. Kurt is very knowledgeable and has a great disposition. I can confidently recommend him as an exceptional instructor.
Kurt's class is very well structured and easy to understand. The tests require only minimum study to pass. I only had time to review the powerpoint, did homework, (I didn't have time to read textbook at all) and i got an A-. If you can commit a little bit more time on studying, of course you can do better than I did!
Kurt is a gifted instructor. He is an exceptional speaker, highly organized and brings relevant professional experiences to his lectures. Class was a good mix of lecture, group projects and current events.
Kurt's Investing class is an insightful class to take. There's a lot of material to cover, yet, with Kurt's well managed time and organization, we were on schedule. His input on the practical aspect of investing is priceless. Learned a lot and can invest better now and better equip to navigate the ups and downs of the financial world.
Kurt's an exceptional instructor who combined lecture, current events & group discussion along with his years of experience into a well organized learning experience. I don't have a finance background & I left wanting to learn more each night. I love my job in Corporate Real Estate & this class increased my interest in this industry & the CFP exam.
Kurt has a special talent in keeping his students engaged for the 3 hour weekly class. His use of lecture, small group discussions, and real life applications helped us understand the material. The group project was invaluable in putting all the investment concepts together. Great class for CFP preparation or to learn about investments.
Kurt is an excellent instructor. You will be tested straight from the course slides and homework. The required reading is overwhelming and you will not be tested on most of the material in the reading. Go to class, do homework and read materials that corresponds to both.
I took this class for personal edification reasons and it was well worth the money/time spent because it forced me to learn a topic that typically bores me to tears. Kurt does an excellent job of making material that was previously intimidating to me approachable, engaging and easy-to-understand. (Hint: Study his exam tips!)
I truly enjoyed the class, especially Kurt's teaching style, practical approach to the topics, and insights on building lasting client relationships. He provides guidance on the content that is important to know professionally, and on what will be tested. He is enthusiastic, encourages class participation and is responsive to questions.
I enjoyed the Essentials of Investment class.Professor Kurt's teaching style, practical approach and in depth knowledge about the subject really help me understand the subject. This is the only class so far in PFP series that is full use of time and money.
Kurt makes this class very interesting. He shares his personal experience, which is really relevant and helpful. Exams are pretty difficult but if you make good notes and do all homework problems, you will be fine. He gives you a list of topics before each exam. He is really good! I would recommend him.
Kurt was great at sharing his own experiences as it relates to investments. He is kind, understanding, and willing to help. I learned a lot in Kurt's class.
Kurt is an amazing instructor with a profound knowledge on the subject. He interacts with the class during lectures by giving students a change to share their experiences on the topic at hand. Even if you are not in the financial industry, the examples and personal stories he shares makes it easy to understand and relate to.
Great professor. Very knowledgeable in the field.
Kurt is one of the best professors I have ever had the pleasure of learning from. His industry experience is second to none. I have had mixed results with part time professors, but Kurt completely eradicated this previously held stereotype. His passion for the financial planning and investments industry is evident in all that he does!
Kurt is very knowledgeable on Investments, both as Professor and as Practitioner, and imparts this knowledge clearly. His classes are lively and interspersed with relevant client experiences and current events. Kurt is very organized and accessible, addressing all queries willingly and promptly. By far the best Financial Planning class!
Excellent lecturer. Real-life application of the subject matter.
Kurt is a great professor! Very fair, respectful and supportive. He has great real-life professional anecdotes which make the class more interesting. I would recommend him to anyone interested in the Investments class.
Kurt is a wonderful, understanding, and fair professor. He offers real world context to subject level lessons while conveying a passion and sincere interest in helping his students. I've had a great learning experience with him and totally recommend his classes.
I'm new to the field of financial planning and Kurt paved the way to understanding the basics of investment alternatives. He has a wealth of practical knowledge that he draws upon during the lectures to clarify concepts. Kurt keeps it light, but expects you to engage and contribute. Your effort in this class will be rewarded.
Great teacher - worth the night classes!
Kurt's class is definitely not easy, but it is super helpful in the arena of financial planning. His lectures are organized and clear, filled with great and funny real life examples. He is also one of the most efficient teachers I know - will get your grade right away and respond to emails very quickly.
Kurt is a very good instructor and has great knowledge in the field of personal finance and investment. He was able to take difficult topics and distills them into understandable terms. A good lecturer and communicator - he was able to captivate the attention of the class for over 3-hours in each session. It was an enjoyable experience!
Kurt has a wealth of experience that he shares liberally. He balanced the technical elements with real-life scenarios to be expected in the field very well. Almost all the material was relevant and the textbook was very good. It was challenging but not painful. Really enjoyed this class.
Kurt is one of the best professors I've had in a long time. He made the class go by quickly and the breakout sessions were current, practical applications of the material. His real-life stories also clearly illustrated how a concept would work in real life. Kurt is also also very aritculate, knowledgeable, and knows how to manage classroom time
The format of Kurt's class and lectures were excellent and helpful for learning the material. It's refreshing to have an instructor who is both informed and experienced on the subject but also able to teach it to the class is in a way that is conducive to actually learning the information.
I thought I already knew a lot about investments but I learned a lot in this class. The lectures were dynamic and interesting and the project with my classmate a valuable experience. Great class, great professor.
He's passionate about teaching his investments class and he brings practical real-world experience to his lectures (works as a Financial Advisor at Morgan Stanley). Also, he's crystal clear in what you need to do to succeed in his class, which I always find helpful. I'd recommend his class to finance and non-finance people alike.
Responsibilities and grading criteria are crystal clear. NO curveballs - what you cover in class is what you are responsible to know. Classes are engaging which is saying something for a 630-930pm course schedule. Great Prof.
Kurt's introduction to Investment course at UC Berkeley is well organized for students to succeed. The quarter long course weave through Investment principles and applications very succinctly. I would highly recommend the course to students that need more than textbook knowledge.
Kurt is very clear about what's expected in class. He is very well prepared and lectures really expand on the concepts introduced in the book. Lots of good real-world experience linked up to the concepts in the book. We didn't cover all the concepts in the text, but it's only a 10-week class.
Kurt models a course structures for professionals and armatures looking for insight into the world of investments. If you take the course be prepared to enjoy the material presentation and classroom culture. A ten week experience I would highly recommend.
I work full time so I was concerned that I would drift off and not pay full attention during lectures. I couldn't have been more wrong. Even after a long work day I was fully engaged during all class lectures. I learned a lot in class but feel I have so much more to learn from Kurt. It's really a class that I would consider taking again.
I felt Kurt did a wonderful job presenting and explaining the information. I appreciate that he focused on the material that we were truly tested on and will need to know for this career versus just having to read the entire text book. He is very supportive of people who work full-time and the extra challenges that brings.
Interesting lectures with current events. Lets you know exactly what is expected of you on the midterm & final. Great teacher overall!!
Class lectures were well organized and understandable. All class slides are emailed to students so you have the presentations. Students are expected to know what was covered in class, not the entire 743 pages of the textbook, although you do need the textbook to learn the concepts. Homework problems are relevant and does not take long to do.
I thoroughly appreciated the way Kurt taught from personal experience and brought to life the material in the context of actually working with clients. The current events, in class discussions, and final project all added richness to our learning. Kurt is brilliant but was always available to answer even basic questions with kindness and aplomb.
Investments was a very worthwhile and interesting class. Kurt makes the class time pass quickly by engaging students in discussion of current events and short, group projects in class, and he brings his real world experience to class. The term project to prepare a recommendation on an individual stock was fun and a great learning experience.
The class material was hard for me, but Kurt Carrasquilla broke it down well and made the material interesting. If I take another class, I will check to see if Kurt teaches it.
Kurt sets clear expectations about what each student needs to do to successfully complete the class. He brings a lot of direct experience to his presentation of material. The topic is very dense and getting through it all in a short period of time requires focus and hard work. Kurt's coverage of the topic is thorough. Class activities are fun.
Fast paced lectures. Very knowledgeable on investments. Expects students to work.
If you work hard in Kurt's class, you'll do well and walk away having learned a great deal. Definitely recommend taking his class. He makes the material relatable and useful.
quite clear, enjoyed current events every week, provided a lot of information, clear expectations, and a good guy.
Well-organized class, very little time wasted, detailed feedback to assignments and presentations
Kurt's a great professor! He's got a great disposition in the class, always is ready to answer any questions you have. Down-tempo, friendly environment. Would take classes with Kurt again!
Kurt is a great teacher. His classes are engaging and interesting - a combination of lecture, current events, small group work, and homework problems. He expects participation and the tests are no joke, but if you show up for classes, he teaches you everything you need to know to be successful and get a good grade.
Kurt understands the applicable uses of the information he is teaching in real world work environment.
Really a great professor and class to spark interest into the CFP program
Kurt will teach you real-life practice in financial industry that you would never be able to learn in campus classes. He gives clarification of all the theories using real life examples and the break-out session in each class is super useful.
You will love the subject . He is a verey good communicator with a deep undurstanding of your need.
I took "Essentials of Wealth Management" at Stanford Continuing Studies this Summer. Kurt is an excellent instructor, a wonderful person and above all, a gem of a man. I was very sad when the course ended because it was such a wonderful learning experience. I will definitely sign up for any class that Kurt teaches. He is absolutely one of the best!
I thoroughly enjoyed Kurt's Investment class as part of the PFP at Berkeley Extension. I would highly recommend Kurt as I learned a lot from the course content, but also from the way he taught it which was clear and concise. Kurt has many years of industry experiences that he incorporates in class which is highly valuable. Take his course!
An exceedingly friendly and approachable instructor. His teaching methodology is based on adult learning theory, which means that his classes are goal-oriented / collaborative. Class is focused on Investment Theory- a great way to understand the academic side of investing. Group exercises help analyze how to make investment decisions. Great class!

Very well presented and is geared for the working professional. Kurt's lectures were clear and well presented. Class tends to be math heavy and you are expected to know the various formulas presented. Not an easy course by any means but not the hardest I have ever had. Book is dense and has a lot of information not an easy read but necessary.
Kurt was great at mixing up current events with course curriculum. This helped bring a fresh perspective to the lessons that we were learning in class. He also assigned homework that was most relevant to what we were learning. I didn't feel like any problems were over kill to the materials we were learning.
Kurt is very approachable, helpful, and great at making the class very engaging. I really appreciated that there is a strong emphasis on focusing on what is relevant from a practical standpoint, and valued Kurt's insights from his experience with clients a lot. His course covered a ton of ground yet he covered all relevant aspects in concise and understandable format. I would recommend him to anyone who wants a good overview of Investing.
We covered a broad range of topics (some I had experience with and others not). Came away with solid understanding of bonds and options which was one of my goals. I also enjoyed the project and doing company research. The current events each week particularly the past two months were a good way to start each class.
Great instructor. Very knowledgable in the financial services industry and really encourages class discussion which creates a more engaging session.

Kurt is an outstanding teacher. His Investments class moves pretty quickly, but as long as you ask questions Kurt is very good at framing things in an understandable manner. Also the case studies he uses do a great job of turning the textbook formulas into real life client experiences. I would highly suggest taking any class he teaches.
Kurt has a very engaging, approachable style that keeps energy levels up and kept me returning to class. His lectures are completely additive to (and in most cases, clearer than) the reading material-- he makes content relevant to real-world scenarios. I found the course appropriate for people without a finance background, who are transitioning.

He sets clear expectations, provides insight from his own career, and breaks down complex ideas and formulas.
Professor Carrasquilla is a great professor. The concepts were new to me and I struggled at first since the course is quite dense and we go through the materials at a faster pace than I'm used to. However, he explained the materials thoroughly and I really enjoyed the group discussions. I learnt so much from him and my classmates!
Great lectures and dynamic classes. Good in class group exercises that helped to further understanding of investments. The three hour class flew by. Kurt is very intelligent and engaging and I really enjoyed his lectures. I looked forward to his class every week, he had a good combination of homework, group work, and tests!
Kurt has fantastic professional experience with investing, and working with clients, that he shares generously. His guidance is highly actionable. The textbook seemed extraneous, more of a reference source than useful to read. Other than the reading, the workload was thoughtfully designed for maximum understanding rather than creating work.
