He is clearly interested in what he is teaching, and has obviously had a lot of experience working with these illnesses. HOWEVER, his tests are IMPOSSIBLE. I'm an A student and could only seem to get a C or at best a B on his assignments. I also had him for psych 340, and had the same issues there. Very nice but needs to be at a higher level.

Very knowledgful and clearly loves Psychology. There's a mid term and a final. The mid term is 15 chapters (ugh!) and can be hard! His lectures aren't bad and he is clear but he has fairly high expectations and should be teaching graduate level not undergrad. Attendance not mandatory MOST of the time. The class can be applied to the real world.

I really like him as a professor. He really knows his stuff and he was also willing to help me through some personal stuff as well. But his tests are a nightmare! His tests are super hard. The questions are strangely worded, and the answers are ambiguous. The tests include stuff that is not in the book and not discussed in lecture. I do not recommend taking this class! It takes him a long time to grade tests and assignments. His Powerpoints are unorganized. My worst experience ever with a professor at VCU :(

Dr. Crandall has a lot of experience in private practice, however, while knowledgeable, he is not the best professor. He doesn't respond to emails, he takes a long time returning grades, and his tests are tricky. They are worded strangely. He doesn't engage the class in meaning discussions. Nice guy, but wouldn't take again.

Professor Crandall is over all a very nice guy, his lectures are very interesting. However, the lecture slides are brief, and he uses a lot of visual aids such as videos etc. which really helps those who learn that way. I personally, would have wanted the lectures to be more in depth, and because they aren't you will NEED to read the text.

First off, he doesn't take attendance which is nice. However, he doesn't post his powerpoints online so you need to take notes, but they are very clear and straight to the point. If you go to class and take good notes it's an easy A. It's also nice that you can tell he loves what he does. He makes the topics even more interesting by showing videos.

Here's the deal, if you come to class, pay attention and read the book, you won't have much of an issue. His tests are worded strangely, but if you actually learn the material rather than just expecting the answer to be obvious through multiple choice you should get a decent grade. The low reviews are obviously from people who took a lazy approach.

Dr. Crandall is a great professor. Especially if you want to go into counseling or work with the VA. Tests are multiple choice, we only had a midterm, a final, and 2 papers. This class was asynchronous so I don't have a huge opinion on him but the class was very easy. Textbook readings, exams, and a final paper. Lecture videos were uploaded for each exam. Not really that difficult. He got back to my email but I have heard he has a bad history of not responding to emails.

Dr.Crandall is very knowledgeable about this subject and his lectures are informative and entertaining. The course subject itself isn't the easiest but him being the professor made it easier. I had in person but he makes Canvas so that it's easy to catch up if you're absent. 100% recommend him for any class.

Dr.Crandall is a pretty good teacher. He's very knowledgeable about this class and all the information he taught was concise and clear. His test wasn't that hard and a lot of the class material was easy to learn. You only get graded on four tests, a paper at the end of the year, and a final exam. Take Dr. Crandall an easy W.

Legit one of the best professors ive had at VCU. The only class i actually looked forward to attending because of how well laid out and interesting his lectures were. You can literally just attend class, take notes on the main points and receive an A in this class. Professor Crandall is very nice and understanding and is overall a great prof.

If you take this class, understand that it's an upper level class and requires upper level effort. The lectures are amazing, but you do have to have good notes/study habits and be willing to put in the work to get do well. It honestly is really easy to get a good grade as long as you try, and Crandall is one of my favorite professors I've had.

The course is almost entirely test-based. Lectures are very entertaining and interesting, but be prepared to take good-quality notes. It is often times hard to get feedback from him, and you will mostly have to communicate with the TA. It's a high-level course, so prepare for high-level studying.

Dr. Crandall may be one of my favorite professors I've ever had. He is a great lecturer and enjoyable to listen to. Four unit tests, a 3-page paper, and a final are all the grades in the book. Attendance isn't mandatory, but if you come to class, read the interim summaries, and study everything he tests on is pretty clean-cut. I loved Dr. Crandall!

Great professor and I loved how he related the material to his current practice. However, though, your grade is only based on 4 exams, 1 final exam, and a paper. If tests aren't your thing, I wouldn't recommend taking this class with him. Exams are tough so make sure to attend class even though it's not required.

The class is difficult, which is expected for an upper-level course, but if you listen to his lectures and go over the course content, you'll do well. He gives very informative and detailed lectures. None of the information in his lectures feels unnecessary, and it also feels like he goes over everything he needs to. It's a good balance.

If you can, please take this professor! He is one of the best I have ever had. I have learned the most from his lectures as there are a lot of discussions. Super interactive. No classwork or homework, just 4 tests and a short paper assignment. All the tests are open-book, so it is super easy, but it really is worth it to show up to class every day.

Crandall's PSYC407 was my favorite class so far (I'm a junior). No homework or quizzes, all grades come from exams and a relatively short paper. There's a textbook but I NEVER needed it and did not buy it to begin with. His lectures are interesting and he plays music before class. HIGHLY recommend taking his class! Also tests are online open-note.

His lectures were interesting and included a lot of real life examples. His exams have a lot of vocabulary that's not in his lecture slides, maybe going to class would help with that bc I never went. 4 unit tests, 1 cumulative final that are all online open note, and a short paper about a movie you pick from a list he gives. Don't buy the textbook.

All of the tests and papers were open book and open note, but somehow I kept getting Bs. There was only one time I got an A, but in the end I finished with an A. We had to write a paper diagnosing a movie character, which was the only "hands-on" assignment. Make it make sense you'll get a good grade. Tests are online, write notes and skim textbook.

Lectures are good, informative. Overall positive experience with the class, but interactions with him always left me feeling negative about my work. Condescending, rude. I will take him again, but stay far away from him and use other resources instead. Tough grader, confusing exam questions. Pay close attention, read. 5/5 lectures, he's just petty

The course has only five exams and no other assignments, so there's zero flexibility if life circumstances come up. Professor is strict with deadlines and does not offer makeups, even personal emergencies. Material is clear, but the lack of flexibility makes the course difficult for students who work full time as well as study full time.
