He is SOO boring, reads directly from book and mumbles A LOT!
Nice, Reads and teaches everything from book, kinda wierd but clear and good tea
thoroughly reviews test material, helpful, understands material well, good fella
Good teacher, mumbles at times, but easy
He is a good prof. He lets you know exactly what is going to be on the test.
Nice guy, easy test, very monotone!
Very straight forward. Very practical. Funny jokes!
tough materail unless youre a computer software wiz
Bring highlighter. Tells you what to study for exam and nothing else.
Runs a fast-paced classroom, make sure you are ready to keep up, tests are tough
this prof is great! Tells exactly what is on exams. He's upbeat and very helpful
great proff and funny guy, pay attention he gives good test hints
Tells you only what you need to know. great prof

Very clear about what to study for exams
extremely easy, tells you what to highlight in text & that's what on the exams!!
Tells you exactly what's on the exam. Tests are still challenging though. Have to really pay attention in class. He speaks in run-on sentences. Just email him on project questions. He'll just give you the answer!

If you have to take this class, TAKE THIS PROF!!!! He makes a tough subject really easy. I couldnt have asked for a better prof.
he is one of the best
Awesome prof. Tells you exactly what to study, and relates it to real life.
A "Handy dandy" professor who will teach you in a "completely unadulterated" way in "some manner shape or form." Seriously he's completely scatterbrained but gives you exactly what you need to get a good grade if you do some
This guy is one of the best teachers I have had at GVSU!!, if you bring your book to class, he tells you what to highlight, and that stuff is exactly all thats on the tests, its great says"in some manner shape or form" and "handy dandy"
Excellent Prof!! Recommend anyone to take this prof for ACC. He tells you exactly what to study for the tests, all you have to do is "run with it"
Excellent professor. Worked hard to explain the stuff that mattered and discard the junk. Unfortunately I found myself repeating his little sayings after each class. Recommended.
Discards all the "crap" and gives you the "pure unadulterated" stuff that you need to know. Seriously one of the best profs I've ever had; translates something confusing like accounting into something anyone could understand.
Great guy. Tells you exactly what you will be tested on. Knows the material and knows how to teach it.
Tells you everything you need to know for both quizes and tests. Make sure you are there everyday or you will not know what will be on the tests. Great funny guy!
One of the best at GVSU. Makes the class easy and keps your attention and interest throughout. He is not all together there, but that is one of the factors that makes him good. :-)
very good, must pay attention in class because he goes through stuff prety fast
OMG, can you say typical accountant. He hikes his pants up to his chest and wears glasses three inches thick. Might as well hit the snooze button and skip this class, you'll be sleeping in 10 min anyway.
Get ready to hear "In some manner shape or form" 20+ times per class. Nice guy though, very smart, and spoon-fed you all the answers before the tests/quizzes.
He's alright. Very funny and friendly. Tells you what to highlight in the book. Notes are pretty convoluted and messy. Sometimes quizzes THEN teaches after the fact. Still can't figure out LCD projector.
Go to class because he tells you EVERYTHING you need to know for quizzes and exams. Very nice prof., but tends to say "in some manner, shape, or form" an annoying amount of times. Take him regardless!
Nice guy, but the class can get boring! Is very clear on what will be tested on and what you need to know. You have to go to ALL classes and be prepared to work.
They broke the mold here. If you want the stereo-typical accountant turned professor, you've found it. It is a lot of material, but Ole' Fanny teaches verbatim right out of the text and tells you exactly will be on his exams.. Take this guy, he's a trip.
great proff...though he could change the statement "some manner shape or form"!!!
THE BEST PROF EVER!!!
Dr. Fanning is the BEST accounting teacher. His final is somewhat hard, but other than that, he is very nice, tells you exactly what to study and makes accounting easy. Definetely take him if you dont like accounting. He makes it understandable.
The typical absent minded prof in demeanor, but great teacher. Smart aleck comments under his breath crack you up if you hear them. Tells you exactly what you need to know for tests and teaches very well.
This class is boring as hell, but Fanning tells you EXACTLY what you need to know for tests and stuff. Tests are pretty easy if you go to class.
He tells you what to highlight for the tests, which makes studying a lot easier. This does not mean that you can't learn the material too. He does give you exposure to different things in a hands on manner which makes it easier to learn.
Tells you what you need to know. Assignments are mostly done in class. Very nice professor, but I feel I missed out on something by taking this class with him. Don't really learn anything, just memorize it for the test.
This is a really boring class, and I didn't really learn anything. The class would have held my attention a little more if we hadn't done the same type of problem 5 times in a row in the same day. He does tell you EVERYTHING that will be on the test, which I actually think is pretty annoying.
He is a great prof. I really actually learned a lot, he tells you everything for each test, but he motivated me not to just memorize it and it was the first class I actually did most of my readings in. He is great overall and you should not be worried about taking him!!!
Class is straight-forward. He tells you what to know and doesnt trick you. Make sure you know how to do the problems, and youll be fine.
Best Acct teacher there is. He is way better than Stovall. He knows that the students only cares about their grade and thus he caters his class to making sure everyone gets an A. TAKE FANNING!! You'll love him (he's quarky too)!
He's an ok prof. He tells you everything you need to know for the exams. Projects are helpful as well. Overall, not a bad prof. i would take him again
Good prof..tells you exactly what is on all exams. Would take again.
very easy. knows how to teach. tells you everything you need to know. doesn't bore you with blah acct. class gets out early every time. really funny. easy A. you can't go wrong with fanning.
Funniest, most synical man you will ever meet. Has a crass comment for everything in class, but he goes through the book and tells you what is important, but I would read it all, just in case. I do not think we were ever there for more than 40 minutes.
Psshh...I don't think he could make the class any easier. He tells you exactly what you will need to know and nothing you won't.
He is a very good prof. My only concern was that he didn't really teach us the material, he just told us what we needed to know. Very helpful if you didn't understand something. Got out of class early every day. Good prof to take if you are taking this class in the summer.
I took him for 340 as well and was just as easy for both. He tells you what you need to know (just highlight it in the book) and goes over problems that you will need to know for the tests. Gives you easy homework and you get out early almost every day. Take him if you can if you don't understand accounting.
Good professor. Must attend classes in order to know what is on test. Do not take for granted that he tells you what is on the test, still need to study well. Always willing to help.
ACC 340 with Kurt Fanning is great! The homework is not too demanding, and the exams are fair. Kurt is very helpful, and very funny! The lectures usually end up being short, so if you're lucky you will get out early! I would recommend the night class by far! Everyone should be able to get an A if you have enough time to study for the exams.
GO TO CLASS!! He tells you EXACTLY what is on the exams and what you need to know out of the book. I took it 6-9 and we got out before 8 most of the time.
He goes through the book and tell you just what you need to know for exam. Easy follow-a-long assignments to show you the programs. They make up a lot of the points. Nice guy, would recommend
Very friendly and helpful teacher, remembers your name by the 3rd class (!!!). IT couldn't get most of the software for the class running in the lab properly, but I still learned tons and would highly recommend this class. Experienced professor who makes an effort to stay up-to-date on current technology and issues and make you learn them too. A+
Excellent professor, funny and helpful. Tells you what to highlight and what you need to know for test. Took at night, out by 8 latest most of the classes.
He tells you exactly what you need to know. His tests can be a little tricky but if you study the material, it is not hard to do well in the class. He is a great prof. and will for sure take him again in the future!!
If you're good at cramming complex terms into your brain with little to no explanation, then by all means you'll love his exams. If understanding logic and working through problems is your thing, then you will struggle. Friendly, funny, and knowledgeable guy... but his quality as an instructor is questionable.
He's a nice guy, and knows his stuff, but his lectures are often disjointed and fail to flow. The only way to do well in this class is to do and re-do the problems over and over until you can do them in your sleep, and memorize every concept he throws at you without searching for an explanation. Memorization without application = learned nothing.
Knows his stuff. Most classes he reads out of the book, tells which page #s will be on the quizzes and exams, then guides the class through exercise problems. Exams MC and T/F are a bit tough but the exercise problems are a piece of cake if you practice them a couple times
He's the nicest man and very helpful with the homework assignments and also tells you what to highlight in the book for exams. would recommend him. I took as a 6-9 but was almost always a 6-8.
I took this as a night class. Professor Fanning is a great professor but he doesn't like night classes and it shows. If you just read the book you will do well.
Most helpful prof. Nice man. Go to class because he will tell you what will be on the exams. Quite a few homework assignments but only a couple are tricky. Gives you time in class to do hw so he can help you. Highly recommend him!
He does a great job of communicating what you need to know for the tests, "projects" are very easy and there is no homework per se in the class. Plus he is super adorable. I 3 Kurt.
After taking his class and being more confused by lectures than helped I don't know how he has such a high rating. Talk about teach to the test... the only thing you really get out of class is when he has you open the book and tells you what pages the test questions are from. I would not recommend him.
If you have to take ACC 213 as a general business requirement, TAKE IT WITH FANNING. I really struggled with 212 but this class was a breeze. He tells you EXACTLY (like word for word what the question is) what will be on the test. Go to class, write down every random page number he says, you will get an A.
His tests can be difficult, especially the multiple choice. But the quizzes and problems are easy. Just make sure you attend lecture! He gives all the answers to projects, quizzes, and test questions during lecture, and you leave at least 15 minutes early every day. Also if you attend office hours for any help he'll give you the answers too.
Could skip every class and had it not effect your learning or grade at all. Was actually really excited about this course initially...
It is very difficult to learn anything from professor Fanning's lectures. He mostly just points out sections in the book to know and rambles on about things absolutely no one can follow. Talks way over student's heads; does not know how to explain things in simple terms. Take anyone but Fanning.
Easy A. Goes through the book in class and says exactly what will be on the exam. Have your pen and book ready, and write what he says he will test on. Memorize it. Always finishes lectures early so you can work on the projects. Always says "in this particular instances," so be prepared to be annoyed by that. Lectures are boring, but A's aren't!
Kurt is the most confusing professor I have ever had, however he literally lays your entire tests out for you. If you are comfortable with being given the exact ideas on tests including math problems and teaching yourself all of it then take him. It's an easy A only if you attend lecture and write down exactly what he tells you.
Kurt goes through the Info Systems Auditing textbook and gives you things to highlight. The highlighted things make up the exam. He posts a study guide with page numbers and lists how many multiple choice or T/F he created from that specific page. Makes his exams easier. Grades on a curve. Class projects: IDEA, Tableau, SEC paper, and presentation.
Well, in this particular instances if you approach this course from that particular perspective, then you'll have to fight the little battles of Professor Fanning.
Night class was relaxed. Always out by 7:45ish. 500 points worth of tests and 130ish points for projects, which are all guaranteed if you do them. Tests were tough for me, but others did really well. The whole class is him going through the book and highlighting the important stuff.
He says, "In that particular instance" a lot, which can be annoying. There were 5 tests throughout the course they were tough. All he does during the class periods is go over the book and highlight what might be on the exam. He doesn't really explain what it is, just tells us to highlight it.
He says, "in this particular instances" at least 100 times per lecture, which can make it difficult to focus on what he is saying. There are a handful of easy homework assignments with flexible due dates and 5 exams. If you write down exactly what he tells you "may" be a question or what paragraphs are highlighted in the book, this class is easy.
This guy is a character. Class consists of him going through the book and highlighting what will be on the test. He doesn't force you to pay attention and you can do assignments in class. However, he tells you exactly what is on the exam so its good to listen. Kind of hard to follow since he's a bit quirky but pretty good professor.
Very understanding. Show up and work hard and he will make sure you do well.
In this particular instance is said about 100 times per lecture. The class is a lot of busy work which can easily be taken care of in class time. Lecture consists of him going over what to highlight in the book that could be on the exam. Its an easy B but youll have to study hard on exams to get an A.
Great prof. Show up, highlight the textbook as he tells you what is on the exam. "In these particular instances" you should be fine. Exams aren't too bad. A decent number of homework assignment but most are really easy and have step by step instructions. Homeworks are very easy points. Very funny and knowledgeable guy.
I LOVED class with Fanning. I cannot say enough good things about him. The class takes a little effort, but Fanning knows that and if he sees you putting in work, he makes it easy to do well.
Dr. Fanning is funny guy and a good professor. He has lots of experience and shares those experiences and insight with his students. You'll get a good grade as long as you pay attention to what he wants you to know in the book and do the homework. The homework is easy, pay attention to his instructions and he is very helpful if you ask him.
Professor Fanning was one of the best teachers I ever had. He taught in a very unique style that let the students clearly understand what was expected from them. Homework was relatively easy and useful, and study guides accurately reflected what was on the exam. The only downside of this course is the amount of reading required.
Very good and straightforward professor. The book is your lifeline in the class, since he uses it to tell you exactly whats on the exam so make sure you buy it. We always got out early and the exams weren't that bad as long as you studied for them. Curves heavily.
In this particular instance, I wouldn't suggest this professor. He just tells you what to highlight in the textbook and that would be the deal. Its not a very hard class and all these fun little things so that would be the case. But I didn't learn much from that perspective. I did quick cram for exams though and that would be the deal. Get it?
Class is pretty easy. Basically you go to class with your textbook and he tells you what to study in the book for the exam. Homework assignments are easy and he gives you plenty of time to do them.
Kurt is super caring and he really just wants you to learn. his lectures are sort of boring but it makes him happy when students show up. there are unlimited attempts on homework and the exams aren't too hard. there are just a lot of exams but at least he drops one. overall a really nice guy
2 homework assignments due every week, one was multiple choice video questions (super easy points) and the second was actual math questions on connect. The second assignment is how I learned all the material for the exams. The exams are a mix of questions you can get online and problems you actually have to work out. He truly wants you to do well.
