He's a great teacher. Really fun and he teaches public speaking part-time which is what he does for a living. This is a great useful class and you shouldnt take it from anyone else! :)

This is the best class I have taken at BYU. Finally something I can use in the real world Prof Mortensen helped take my public speaking skills to the next level. Each class was fun, full of humor and relevant to the real world. I thought it was great that the students get to grade each other

I loved this class! One of my best classes in college! Everyone needs to take this class to learn how to sell themselves and get the job they want. This course really helped me to gain confidence in my ability to speak and communicate. The information that I learned from Professor Mortensen will benefit me for my entire career.

Enthusiastic and knows what he's talking about. But didn't feel like a teacher. Felt like he thought of us as his proteges, not his students, if that makes sense. Class was entertaining and useful, but it wasn't always clear what we were supposed to do, so speech days were really stressful.

This was a great class. It was hard to take this type of class as a engineer. Kurt helped me through every step and made himself very accessible. The syllabus was a great tool to make sure I did the right assignment. It was fun to learn from someone that actually doing what they are teaching.

This is a must take class. I learned so much. I will use my notes and my new skills forever. I liked how everything was mapped out and Mortensen was always available to clarify assignments and give feedback.

Had to take public speaking for my major - construction management. Turned out I made the right choice with Kurt Mortensen. I can't count the number of times I was disappointed that class time was over. I learned alot, had fun and now consider myself a public speaker.

This is the best class. It is so easy as long as you go because you have to give a speech most class periods. It was only once a week and a small class so everyone knew each other. He will answer all your questions and is so easy to work with. Fair grader and really funny. Makes it so much fun. Gives great feedback.

I put off this class until I was about to graduate. I should have taken this class as a freshman. The lectures inspired me and were very entertaining. Plus I will use the class material and lectures the rest of my life - especially in business.

Prof Mortensen said it the first day - You will use this skill the rest of your life. I graduated in April and he was right. This was the most important class I took at BYU.

Mind blowing. I learned so much about life, motivation, influence and how to be a great public speaker. I had no idea before the class he was famous and an author. I did a search and found out he does this professionally. Finally a teacher that does what they teach. I convinced my roommates to take the class with prof Mortensen next semester.

Public speaking! So... I feel like I was a jipped. We only have class once a week and he's skipped out on us three times and we cancelled another time. I love the material and the class is enjoyable but I definitely get the impression that this class isn't high on his list of priorities. Practice your speeches 'cause he'll rip them apart! Good tho.

I loved this class. Bro. Mortensen is willing to help you and work with you. It is public speaking so it was stressful at times, but there is so much to learn from you. You need to go to class for points. He does offer extra credit. Definitely recommend.

Very helpful and applicable class. Prof Mortensen is great, he obviously knows his stuff. Unfortunately he can be out of town a lot for speaking seminars, etc. He missed my class period about 4 times which is a lot for meeting just once a week. Just work on improving from speech to speech, do as much extra credit as possible, and you'll do fine.

The class was incredible. Taught by a pro. I highly recommend! He had a death in the family this semester and missed a few classes, but made up for it in energy and enthusiasm. thank you

I was getting ready to go to Law school and did not know I had to take public speaking as a prereq. I did not take for credit, but had an incredible experience. I am a better, more confident public speaker and feel better about becoming a lawyer.

Engaged every class and learned how to overcome my fear. His class on Motivating others and yourself was worth taking the whole class.

Super fun class! Prof Mortensen is very entertaining and teaches great public speaking skills- very useful in life. You will give quite a few speeches that are peer and teacher graded. He gives you plenty of extra credit opportunities. If you prepare your speeches and go to class you will do just fine.

I was nervous to take this class. Prof Mortensen taught me exactly how to overcome my fear, give better presentations and how to influence others. He was a great coach. Now I feel more confident in my ability to speak. I wish I would learn this much in all my classes.

Wow - this class was awesome and stretched me to a whole new level. I gave it a 5 in difficulty because public speaking was way out of my comfort zone. Prof Mortensen held my hand every step of the way. I now feel confident in my ability to speak to an audience even though it is not my favorite thing to do.

Just recommended that my 2 roommates take this class. The success skills alone are worth taking the class. Finally skills that matter in the real world.

Don't leave BYU until you take this class. Fun, Interesting and really helped me overcome my fear of public speaking.

Learned a lot of good skills in this class and he knows his stuff. I didn't like that speeches were peer graded on a limited grading scale making it near impossible to get a perfect score or an A much less unless you were a real star and everyone loved you. I felt like there were some biases in the peer grading, good class though, close environment

EVERYONE should take this class at BYU! As Coach Mortensen says, "life is all about public speaking." I definitely improved this semester and so will you. I didn't always get A's on my speeches, but there are enough grades that you will pass if you put in the effort and apply the feedback he gives you (FYI it doesn't go the full 3 hours each week).

Going to Law school and this class made me more confident and excited to be a Lawyer

LOVED this class!!! I learned so much and gained a lot of confidence from this class! The speeches were never too hard, and it was always fun to listen to everyone else's speeches. This is a great class to gain confidence and friends!! Also the final was the most FUN final I've ever taken!!!

I was nervous to take this class. I am an introvert and public speaking was not my thing. Prof Mortensen made it easy and fun. I learned how to be a better speaker and now I enjoy it. A must take course.

This class is so fun. I took it in a 2:50 block once a week which was definitely difficult, but he did his best to make it feel a little shorter. I love public speaking, and taking the class helped me feel even more confident in my ability to set up and give a speech. I 100% recommend this class.

I never thought this would happen. I am now excited to speak in public, I volunteer for speaking assignments and have the instruction I need to deliver a captivating speech. What a change for me. Take this class

Prof Mortensen provided all the formulas and techniques to become a better speaker. I also love that public speaking is what prof Mortensen does for a profession.
