He's interesting and funny (sarcastic, sometimes). He tries to make it interesting for his class (Health 110). He always has some tidbits of info that he wants you to get at least one from each class period of his. He's fun to take this class from!

Kurt is not only a great teacher but a wonderful person. He saved me from drowning the second day of class and had to perform CPR, thats right ladies, this could happen to you! It was a close call! Thanks Mr. Olson!!!!

The best thing about this class is that its easy and its really about learning.. you don't have to worry about your grade so because of that you can pay a lot more attetion to the lectures in class which at least for me helped me learn a lot more then i would have if i always had to stress about tests and haveing to memorize things.

Health 110- easy class and kurt is a fun teacher. we watched the movie "supersize me". he is really chill. get the book and just follow the assignments, even if u miss a day or two, the sylabus has alll the assignments ahead of time. i reccomend him!

It should be illegal to have professors that are too good looking but Professor Olson has a very methodical approach to teaching and his lectures are interesting as he makes sociological theories relevant to day-to-day life. His quizzes require analysis and comprehension.

Awesome teacher! Very enthusiastic, knows how to grabs your attention.

This guy engages the class in class discussion (some can't handle this lol). He gives tests that seem easy but are hard. You have to really read the text to an understanding that isn't just simple. He will challenge you and that isn't for everyone- there's no right answer just use terms and theory and your ok. A B is easy and A is hard.

Online tests were complex and not easy to understand. Weekly homework was well balanced and very fair.

This guy isn't one of those super easy teachers- but if you follow the class calendar it's an easy B- if you read before class I think anyone can get an A. He is super clear in lecture and online, I have had two classes from him. I wish he taught more. Not sure how anyone could have trouble here. He's good with all types of people/students.

Best thing is you will get a good grade AND learn how to handle college class work. This is because he teaches you and it's very clear. Those that get confused (which isn't many I don't think), are mad cause it's not a hand out. If your looking for a easy handout grade it's not here. But if your looking for a good grade because of effort- take him!

MJC for 4 years, my best online class EVER! SO clear he has a chart that tells you everything.. Taking him for sociology of family and its the same thing.. trust me TAKE HIS CLASSES!

Honestly, this teacher is amazing. You have to try not to do well or have a bad attitude not to enjoy this class. I did have a hard time getting an A but I did get a B. He cares about his students as I think he had a hard life too. This guy knows his stuff in lectures too.

He always gave feedback asap, all quizzes were practice and points toward extra credit. The only test were the midterm and final. There was a term paper and a couple other assignments. Everything was clearly explained. I learned alot and I will definitely take a class with him again.

Professor Olson's passion for sociology definitely transcends in the classroom. He's enthusiastic, humorous, and keeps it interesting. He gives you all the tools to succeed so if you slack off in reading chapters, that's on you. A couple of my friends suggested I take his course and I'm glad I did. Wish all professors we like him.

Professor Olson is one of the best professor's at mjc! He makes learning fun and breaks down criteria so that it's smiple to understand. Professor Olson is a very nice guy but his video or audio lectures are sometimes off track of the subject. Very easy and kind person really respects students. Wants students to pass. Gives lots of options just do the work and you will get a good grade.

This professor uses a role playing video game as a study tool. It's amazing. I think maybe some people who don't like games may not have as much fun. But the game and text are cheap and fun! You are graded for completing the game quests which have sociological themes. I would love playing study games in all my classes. I learn more by playing.

Such a fun class! class involves a game for studying. Im not tech savy and i figured it out with some trial and error, so don't worry. Quizes are straight from the game and final questions are straight from the quizes. I never listened to the lectures, but the book is a must! there's no deadlines which is cool cuz you can work at your own pace (:

Although I passed with an A I didn't enjoy the class as much as everyone else did. It's a self paced class. The game is a great study tool; I scored 99/100 on the final. He sometimes states that you will be learning about chapter X & it will really be chapter Z. Overall, it was an easy A. Oh and u can have as low as an 88% for an A.

I took Prof Olson's online class and It was very easy. It was my first time taking an online course as well, but instructions are clear & easy to follow. I took this class over the summer while working full time, working part time, & in my 7th month of pregnancy. I passed the class with 101.33%. Play the game, pass the quizzes and you'll do fine.

I was enrolled in Sociology 101 online over the summer. The class is pretty fun. You play a video game to learn. I have never had a class like that. After getting used to it, I had a blast. I wish more classes taught this way. I ended up choosing to play it again (for fun LOL). I got an A because I played the game and remembered what was in it.

Took this online Sociology 101 class, this course is go at your own pace. i was done in 3 weeks. Instead of a text took, you need to buy a video game that included a PDF textbook. The video game is used as study tool for the quizzes you have to take and the quizzes are on the final exam. There are lots of extra credit available!

This Professor is unlike any I have had before. He uses modern technology in his class by using play (a game he created) as a learning and studying tool. At first I thought it was a little weird because I am not a "gamer" but it really did make the homework fun and it definitely made you think outside the box. Would def. recommend this professor.

Heavy lectures sometimes but all the information is on the slides which are in canvas so it helps. Also the game has the book on the usb, very accessible. His grading system is great.

Took this professor for sociology 101 online. I work 2 nursing jobs plus school.. ended up with an A. The class is basically about a SOCIOPIA GAME and you have to finish the quests and the quizzes come from the tests, and then you just write a log about each quest and thats it. PLUS this class has no due dates, it's your pace. Highly recommend!

This class is based on a game designed by the professor. I finished it in 2 weeks, easy A.

The one think I both loved & hated about this class was that he doesnt put a due date on anything, it's all due by the last day of the semester. The quest game you play for the class is cool, he provides the text book online. Had some issues understanding his essay grading criteria & getting him to explain why he gave me a certain grade.

So it took me the whole time to complete the game, I guess its like anything else, some people need to study, some don't. I am a mother, who is also working in a dental office. The open ended due dates were perfect for me. I did all my work on Sundays! I loved the game we played, and I am not much of a gamer.. LOL- I will sign up for him again.

All you need to do is complete a study game, what helped me pass all my quizzes were writing down every question and the right answer below it, as long as you dont save the game every time you get a question wrong you can exit and learn which question is correct. Very easy essay questions.

Game (have 2 buy & includes book) is based on the chapter readings and his lectures. There is a quiz to take after each reading and a log entry to do using sociology terms for almost all chapters but, it is not difficult at all. I found the book to be very interesting, easy to follow. Offers extra credit. The final is based on the game's questions.

An absolutely amazing professor who is really changing the game here. He has a video game you play to learn and it actually WORKS. All of the work has no due date just so long as it's turned in before the end of the semester. This was a change for my procrastinating self but I still loved it.

This class mainly consists of the game you must purchase. It is super easy to get an A in this class, I did it all the last week and got above 100%. The game was a bit boring to me, but the questions in the game are the exact same questions that will be on the quizzes. Also the final is based off of all the quizzes.

Prof. Olson is a great teacher. I took both is socio 125 and 101 classes, and he was awesome. Your main grade comes from the game and doing a "quest log" for each chapter. I did the summer course so everything was very quick, but he did a great job helping all of us whenever we needed it. He really cares about his students! 10/10

This is my second class with professor Olson. I loved the game! I actually played it again after class was over. Easy and fun and I learned.

The game he uses as the textbook is an easy study tool and his lectures are interesting. Quiz questions come straight from lecture and the game so you have a good chance of getting at least a high B in the class. I would take Professor Olson for all my sociology courses. 10/10 highly recommend.

Took his soc101 class (hybrid). Lectures in person, everything else online. Lectures were chill. Hes really sweet but you play a GAME for the class. Its confusing at first but once you get the hang of it its not bad. I just dont think its the best way to learn. Other than that hes super chill! No textbook required!

Easiest class I have ever taken. You play a RPG video game and can save as often as you want. It can be finished in a day if you want to complete the class fast. The quizzes and final have the exact same questions from the game. Too easy IMO, but whatever, I'd take it again. It's not supposed to be physics-tough I guess lol

The class is easy, and lectures were amazing, they are like TEDtalk videos. easy to understand, modern, and applicable to real life. the only thing I hated very much is a video game. to be honest, it outdated and confusing. even though I passed the class with A+ and without any questions, I think the game definitely irritates many students.

At first I wasn't a fan of playing sociopia, but once I started, I couldn't stop playing. I took him over the summer so I didn't have to attend class because everything was online, it was a really easy and fun class. He was always accessible and never gave out due dates, everyone goes at their pace, which I loved!

The notes/book is online, you don't have to go to every class but going is fun and easy you learn A LOT. His game is based on the lecture. At first I hated the game but later on I got use to it. Super cool guy! EASY A !!! but strict on deadlines. He gives you a lot of time to get it done so he doesn't accept any excuse!

Pros: FUN game to play for study, Funny guy, interesting lectures like TED talk, fair grader, good topics. Cons: Need to learn technology to study, no free textbook.

Super cool professor. Video game Sociopia was helpful with studying and wasn't that hard to navigate cause I am not a gamer at all. Heads up though the bookstore raised the prices of Sociopia to 94$! Try to find someone that has take the class already and buy it off of them!

Here is the real deal with this teacher and class: Professor Olson is super interesting to listen to in lecture. The game is different but its crazy how much i ended up learning from it. Instructions are super clear. The course is interesting- like a TED Talk interesting. He's super nice and helpful, helped me when I was stuck. The text is $85.

He is a great teacher and is there to answer any questions. His class consist of a video game and when purchasing it the digital textbook was included. He also had quizzes due time to time and worksheets were due at the end of the semester. Very informative and fun class!

I do like him and his lectures are interesting, but he's not very transparent. There's a severe lack of integration between the content in the textbook, the lectures, and the game. Because of this, when it came time for the writing portion of this class, I was very confused and intimidated because I didn't know what he was expecting.

Very fun class! Whole class is based around a video game. Not being very game savy, I had to visit tutor in the beginning but after that it was a breeze. I took Professor Olson's summer class and I would say everything was pretty manageable. The class is highly based on the video game "Sociopia". A lot of the questions that were in the game were on the quizzes. My biggest recommendation is to write the questions and answers from the game in a notebook. Overall this class wasn't too difficult.

I took Socio 101 online in Spring 2020. I loved this class. Olsen was very kindly responsive as long as you follow his email guidelines. Work your way through the game at least twice and go through again once or twice to study for the final. Its an awesome study tool. Take this class!

Take it, I learned so much and had fun. He always has office hours but I never zoomed him. LOL His lectures are so interesting I wish I was able to take him in person. The game was tough at times, but not really haha. Just make sure to learn your sociology terms and write well. Game is goofy but made me get great grades. worth it!

The game would be the hardest part of taking his course. For Soc01 you have to play a game all semester (by yourself) with multiple quest & it worth a lot of your grade. Other then that, prof Olsen responded to emails quickly, assignments are self explanatory. He also releases all mods the first day of school & we work on them at our own pace!

Professor Olson offered Zoom meetings for any student that needed help up to 3 times a week for a bout 2-3 hours. I found it very interesting that he taught the class with a video game and really enjoyed it (all except for the cutscenes that gave me nightmares lol). Overall Professor Olson is an outstanding professor and I HIGHLY recommend him.

Super easy. Go at your own pace, just don't wait til the very end because the game can get a little frustrating at times. his recorded lectures were cool. and questions from the game will be on the quiz. The game does cost like $100 though, other than that highly recommend!!

By far, the best teacher I've had in terms of transparancy. I've had a lot of difficulty adjusting to online classes and his class was the best and easiest. There's really only 2-3 things he grades on, this is insurmountably beneficial and should be done by more professors. Canvas modules are straightforward. Overall, unbelievably warm guy.

I loved taking Professor Olson Sociology 101 course and am taking another one of his courses right now. He is amazing! Has some great lectures, makes class fun, and is always available to his students if they need anything. Wish I had more professors like him.

I love Prof Olson's teaching way. Playing a game is a good way to learn new vocabulary and their definitions. He helped me a lot when I was stuck in the game, and he gave me a lot of advice to pass the class as well as his game. If you take his class, just follow step by step and not wait until the end of class. You will pass with a good grade!

I loved this class. You really learn a lot while playing the interactive game Sociopia. The instructor is extremely helpful. Great class.

Professor Olsen is a great teacher, the only thing that I didn't personally enjoy was the video game. Each game level and quest takes a lot of time so plan accordingly. In the class I took, everything was due at the very end so its really easy to fall behind. Do video game early!! Write all the quest questions down, they are on the quiz and exam!

The best Professor

A lot of the class homework was to play a video game which most of the quizzes are on. Video game is easy but do not leave it to the last minute! Stay on it and write everything down! It is easy and you actually learn a lot in the video game. Professor was awesome! Very nice and caring 10/10

The class is easy cause he is clear and helpful, otherwise it would be hard. The video game is dope! I played it twice through to find hidden things. I killed the racist dragon easily! Take this call, it' sick! At first I was like what the heck are we doing? Like a good movie it all comes together and makes sense at the end.

This class will likely be different from any others you take. His classes are built around a online game. I'm a little older than your average MJC student so it was a little wacky for me. However, Professor Olson is clear and detailed on how to succeed and if you follow instructions it's hard not to pass. Go in with a open mind, it'll work out

This class was taught on an online video game and there were no due dates. This means that the student is completely responsible for completing their work on their own time. There are also only about 4 required assignments (and 1 extra credit) that make up your entire grade. But this class was easy and enjoyable.

100% deserving of a 5/5. The class itself was not difficult at all. Everything, quizzes, quests, and the final are due within the same week. I don't recommend procrastinating and waiting to do all the work 3 days before everything is due like me, but if you do, you should be fine. I finished with a 97%. Overall great energy from Professor Olson.

I took this class online. The lectures were straightforward. He gives until the last month to finish all quizzes and assignments. One extra credit assignment. I did not care for the video game. It was time-consuming and worth the majority of the points. I didn't learn much from it. The game material could have been included in the lectures.

Professor Olson is one of a kind and truly cares about his class and people in general. His class is a video game that he created called Sociopia. Minimal writing assignments, and he opens everything so you can work ahead and turn in 1 log at the end of the course. Due dates are strict but class is easy and fun. Responds quick to emails. A+ Prof!

Absolutely loved Professor Olson. He is very passionate about sociology and wants his students to enjoy the course. Loved Sociopia, the game! Was such a cool way to learn and study the course content. The quest log is a bit lengthy so be sure to start it early. Professor was easily accessible, replied quickly and always kind and caring.

I have never taken a class like this before, it was sick. The game was dope. Also I wish I had him in person, the lectures were amazing. I actualy wanted to wacth them. It's like he should have a podcast, I ended up playing the game twice (almost). Sociopia I think helped me score super high on the final. TAKE IT! :>

Amazing class! It's all done around a video game. So kool! Clear grading and instructions. I'd like to see more video game classes. A couple discussions and the final was a log you worked on through out the whole class. Take him if you like video games.

Professor Olson's class is a real game-changer. The Sociopia game is an engaging way to learn sociology. With unstuck study and the free textbook, acing this course is a breeze. Highly recommend for an enjoyable, manageable sociology credit.
