Tests were somewhat hard with never enough time given to write them. Giving a 1/4 mark for M.C questions didn't seem to make much sense. Life plans were ok, you had to follow his example perfectly or you wouldn't get a good mark. Attendance taken every class, which counts for marks, which made it tough, if you really didn't want to go to this class, a little bit elementary style. I learned more from the $100.00 text book. Does not allow for open discussion in class. Shuts individual point of views. Only his opinion matters. Required to wear name tag every class. Expectation list for class is unrealistic, as simple as having a snack in class- drinks are okay (medical reasons). Goes on tangents, takes an hr to go over not even half of handout. would not recommend

Kurt is a smart guy and really passioned about teaching and philosophy. I just can't relate to his teaching method. There's no room for discussion or critical thinking in his class. He's not one bit interested in your opinion. You can't contribute. He teaches us WHAT to think, and not HOW to think. That's just absurd for an ethics class. Doctrine

Do not take this class. His lectures are so boring and useless. You wont be able to state your opinion or ask a question since he wont care. He is also very racist. He will make fun of you for not being able to speak English properly. He makes fun of religion and says how its stupid. Please find another teacher.

To those criticizing Kurt about his views on religion - grow up. It is not your job as a student to be insulted, it is your job to think and speak clearly. It's like "I feel", well what else have you got? It's going to take more than feelings to get anywhere. If you are dogmatic, choose a different major, philosophy is definitely not for you.

Kurt is an extremely easy teacher. He tells you most of the questions for the upcoming exams, so all you have to do is memorize the answers. He gives a free 15% for participation, and 5% for handing in your notebook full of notes at the end of semester. His exams are incredibly easy, and he gives tons of free marks. The term project is also simple.

Kurt is super quirky and you definitely have to get used to his teaching style, but he is a good and solid prof. He is clear on what you need to know for exams, midterms, and projects, and marks things really nicely. For those that say he teaches his thoughts only; that is simply untrue. He lets you know all sides, to make an informed decision.

He made us wear name tags and pushed too hard too hard for class engagement, I felt like I was back in 8th grade His exam are pretty easy if you study (I didn't so I barely passed) but I did finish off with A- because assignments were super easy My only regret is buying the $200 text that I can't resell because he switched the next term

I really enjoyed his lectures as I found he gave meaningful and quantitative answers to difficult philosophical questions. If you are ESL I recommend getting someone to proof-read your essays and presentations as he is quite strict with grammar and use of expression.

He is very intelligent and his lectures are captivating and inspiring. The few cons following: this course was extremely difficult 3rd year level in first, the midterm was less than an hour I believe ans final was shorter than what Langara provided. It's all memorization and expect to fully read memorize whole text even authors side-notes. Strict.

Kurt is weird but not in a good way. He talks about his life and not about philosophy, and expects you to take "inspiration" from his life. He doesn't do a very good job of teaching the material, and marks heavily on organization of his notes at the end of the semester and doesn't seem to equally weight the content of the course. Avoid at all costs

Kurt has an incredible understanding of the content and is able to teach others in a way that is fun and helpful. However, his classroom rules are archaic. He needs all electronic devices to be put away despite their role in note taking and textbook reading, and highlighting text is required. He also demands a separate notebook just for his class.

Kurt is old school. He doesn't carry students who don't put in the effort it takes to succeed. He is an atheist and existentialist. However, if you demonstrate critical thinking skills and communicate effectively, you will get a good mark whether he agrees with you or not. I will def take another one of his courses.

Poor pedagogy - I aced his course because I could tell what he wanted and spoon fed it to him, but he frames his questions poorly, structures his tests Very poorly, and needs to have his hand held through basic discussions (I repeatedly had to "translate" other students' points because he wasn't understanding fairly clear arguments).

if you skip class you miss out on so much (attendance taken), has lots of handouts with lots of peer reading, goes off on tangents tbh takes a while to go over one sheet, talks about the same things every class. read the textbook, do the assignments and youll do fine on midterms and writing project, we didnt get a final because of the virus

His teaching style is extremely condescending. He really just wants to use his position to talk about his own life and preach his own values. Trying to take a position that is contrary to his own will result in a lower grade. I cannot recommend Kurt as a professor
