He writes all over the board and sometimes its hard to keep track with what is going on....he is a little sarcastic...i dropped his 150 class and took michot...comparing the two i learned so much more in michot's class.
His tests are so easy if you study the notes. I thought he was very funny, but a lot of people didn't.
lectures are fast-paced, but if you pay attention and take good notes, the tests are easy - straight from the lectures; he has a good sense of humor and adds in funny remarks and commentary on history and current events; good professor!
He makes the class fun. I took him during the summer, so we had matching tests. Study your notes and you can make an A in the class.
He is a good teacher, he just talks to fast. Henis hard keeping up with. He is a good looking.
He is a great teacher and he is absolutly hilarious. He is very intelligent and his class is really easy.
He speaks very fast and sometimes mumbles. But he's helpful and gives study guides.
Stiegle talks really fast, mumbles a bit = hard to understand. He does give study guides which are helpful.
he stutters alot, therefore sometimes it is hard to understand him. but overall, he is a decent professor.
If you ever get the chance to take this class during intercession...do it. He shortens the information A LOT and makes everything very easy. In general, you don't need to buy the book. His tests are straight from the notes. I recommend him!
he is boring and makes stupid jokes
Hated the class, didn't mind him as a teacher, though.
HE IS HARD TO UNDERSTAND WHEN HE TALKS...A NICE GUY BUT I FOUND IT HARD...HIS TEST ARE MULTIPLE CHOICE ONLY BUT THE WAY HE WORDS IT IS HARD.
Dr. Stiegler is a hilarious person. He will embarass you if you disrupt his teaching. He gives study guides and they are helpful. I think his test is hard. You have to study hard in order to pass his class. Even though his test are hard, you can pass his class. I'm taking him again for History 151.
He is a good teacher, talks to fast, suggestion; record the class and type the notes. You need to study to pass the class. Uses the book in this class.
I loved this class! It was fun! He does mumble and talk to himself a lot, but you can always understand the notes. Use the lists he gives to help you study. Everyone who sat around me used notecards too. Pay attention and study. I made straight A's and he still curved the tests.
He shoots straight from his lecture on his tests. Doesn't use the book. Gives matching and multiple choice. I personally liked him alot, but wouldn't say much in class because he does tend to mumble. hehe. Very brilliant man
ok, yea he mumbles and sometimes makes corny jokes. to be up straight, his tests are beyond simple. just take notes in class, go over them, but really focus on the vocabulary. the first test we took, i didnt know about it, and got an 86 just by knowing the vocab.
mumbles a lot and goes on about one topic for ever. read the chapter ahead of time so you wont be lost. gives major curves and the test are multiple chocie but really hard
I have found a new love for Asian history,& he tests so easily. He gives you all the topics to go home and write your essay, memorize it & regergitate it on test. You also take small quizes (part of the test) & write a book review. Stiegler obviously loves history. I am taking his Mid E class next.
as far as history teachers go, he's very easy! a major suggestion.... dont just write the key words he puts on the board. write everything!
Be prepared to write! He lectures the whole class. I reccomend that you take him for 150 and again for 151. His tests are easy...as long as you study. Best study plan: study 1 chapter/day a week before the test then study everything all together. And the MATCHING is the most important thing!!!
take good notes and study
it is really hard to study for his classes because there is just so much information that he gives and most of it is not on the test
I enjoy his class. Make a note, Sit in the front, he is kinda hard to follow.
This class is realatively average as long as you study. Write down the key words and EVERYTHING he says about them. Matching is the most important parts of the test. Sitting in the front is good, and he writes his notes so unorganized on the board. Also, helpful to read the book along with your notes.
I am a student who studies A LOT, and I always stay ahead of my classes. With that in mind, let me just say that this class is NOT easy. Stiegler does mumble, but it's not to the point where you can't understand him. Take good notes, STUDY a lot, and stay ahead.

He's like a kid with ADD....his lectures jump all around. Some days are worse than others. He does give good details, and funny anectdotes..... But sometimes, even the best note-taker will have trouble following his here and there lectures.
I thoroughly enjoyed his class. He was my first professor in my first semester in college so he was my first impression. I think if you know how to take notes(when to write and when to listen) and you read your book, you will do fine in the class
I study all the time for this class, and it truly is a difficult class. You have to be serious. Take good notes and pay attention. This man knows his stuff, and he's truly a brilliant professor.
He was the worst history teacher I have ever had. He jumps around in time when lecturing and makes it hard to understnad what he is talking about. I say if you can take another teacher.
He talks fast but with a studder. He's not very helpful, and he cracks a lot of corny jokes.
he is a very intelligent man, and expresses himself using a very large vocabulary (which probably adds to the difficulty of his class/lecture)but someone who is truly interested in becoming educated will benifit greatly from a professor like him. advice: study his matching terms (100% memorize and take organized notes) and you should pass.
He does not studder. His class is not hard. Read the chapters and take good notes. His reviews are very helpful! Excellent teacher!! Knows his material!
To be honest I've never had my opinions of a professor so low. He teaches well, and his material is not hard...but the man seems to have no dignity and is the strangest professor I have had in my collegate career.
At times it was hard to organize my notes during his lecture due to the fact he jumps around when he is trying to rush. Just write down everything and memorize the matching for the test. I think I would have done better if I would have read the chapters.
Thank the high heavens I'll never have to take him again. I successfully passed both of his classes, but you definitely have to study and work for your grade. He's super smart, and he definitely knows his stuff. Best advice I can give: take good notes, sit in the front, pay attention, and STUDY YOUR TERMS!!! If you do that, you'll pass him.
He does jump around during lecture, but it is no big deal. My advice: when he gives a review for the test, make an outline from this. This way, the extra info he gives is not confused with the need-to-know material. Review what he goes over and you will do fine. Don't forget the matching!!
Ew...most of these comments are right about him jumping around. He does that A LOT and DOES make stupid jokes. I studied HARD for this class and failed...I think that you should pick a different teacher. =] I just think he's a really hard teacher.
he is somewhat easy if you study as soon as you get the notes... he does jump around a lot and is somewhat monotone... but he is a good professor who knows what he's talking about...
Don't take him if you just want to get an easy A/B. The class is challenging. he knows his sh*t & often gets off topic, so you just have to recognize the main points of the lecture. To do well u must attend every lecture, pay close attention, take good notes & be sure to memorize the matching terms- they are very important.
THIS GUY IS REALLY SMART. BUT DOESN' STICK TO JUST ONE POINT. HE JUMPS AROUND ALOT. NOT GOOD TO TAKE HIM
DON'T TAKE HIM IF YOUR NOT A HISTORY MAJOR. HE SKIPS AROUND AND HALF OF THE TIME DOESN'T MAKE ANY SENSE. NOT A EASY COURSE. I RECOMMEND YOU DON'T TAKE HIM. WILL NOT HELP AND DOESN'T GIVE ANY EXTRA POINTS. BUT IF YOU LIKE A CHALLENGE, HE'S UR MAN
He does skip around a lot and doesn't make sense a lot of the time. However, if you study (especially the matching), take good notes, and go to class you will be fine. His lectures are boring, but his tests are not that hard. I would take him again. If you are looking for an easy A, this is not the techer to take.
study the matching and make sure you go to class on the days of review. he takes roll everyday and you are only allowed to miss 4. don't leave during class, he'll stop his whole lecture to ask you where you are going. I HATE history and made a B in the class but you do have to study.
Took him for my very 1st history class as a freshman...he's really smart...knows his stuff. I was so impressed I just had to take him in my following semester. I would take him for all my history classes, if he taught them all!!! His classes are not easy but then this is COLLEGE not high school.
At first he seems confusing but after the first few days you get used to his lectures and the class is easy. He tells jokes that are so not funny that they actually are funny. I made an A easily. You have to study and take notes, but I only studied the night before. I enjoyed this class. It was interesting.
Dr. Stiegler is an easy a if you study. If you study all your matching terms, you should make a C on the exam and if you get at leasst half of the multiplel choice right, that should knock you up to a B. He curves, so there is a possibility of making an A an the exam without overstudying. You can study two nights in advance or even one night and st
study and know your matching. Study notes, go to review day, you should pass the course with a B. He really isnt hard if you put some effort and you dont have to study your brains out! take him, he is easy.
If you study and pay attention in class you will pass his class. very nice and can be funny. I enjoyed his class and would take him again.
He is interesting if you like history at all. He does make some corny jokes, but they are still funny. As long as you know the matching, which you have plenty of time to study, you should make at LEAST a C. If you know a few of the multiple choice answers as well, you can make an A. He knows his stuff too. I recommend him!
His lectures are extremely lengthy and you need lots of notes but you will learn alot. His tests are 4 essays that need to be in cronological order, but you dont need the book because it all comes from your notes. all you need to do is repeat what he says in class. I dont recomend his class for freshmen because you need to have good study habits.
This man is intimidating and difficult to approach. He occasionally belittles students. We were told the tests would have multiple choice and matching, but they were all short essay. I sometimes had to find information about a topic online because he barely gave us any notes. However, I managed to pass with a B.
I took this class over intersession and it stressed me out a little. All his notes he write on the board are sometimes confusing and he teaches kind of fast. Sometimes he throws in random facts about the topic and you have to look up vocab words for the test. The class is ok if you enjoy learning about history.
talks fast and you HAVE to take notes or you will fail. I RECOMMEND going to class. the book is needed to get the definitions for the matching for the test. pretty hard but if you study you will do fine. and he doesnt like to answer questions
doesn't use powerpoint..writes on board
Great teacher. Knows his stuff. Only use book for looking up people definitions...test are MC and matching...he tells you everything you need to know for test. I'd def take him again, but he doesn't like confrontation.
Dr. Steigler is great. He is very bright and cares deeply about the information that he disseminates. I believe that many people give him a lower than deserved evaluation because many students at Nicholls State University are intellectually lazy. This professor is concerned and, if one shows enthusiasm and interest, one will score high on exams.
I've taken Dr. Stiegler for History 307, 309, and 382. Managed As in all classes. He comes off as very intimidating. He's very intelligent and expects you to put in the effort. Go to class and study. All essay tests in the higher levels. Don't take him if you're looking for an EASY A.
He's a pretty good professor. He does tend to get off track and occasionally forgets when he schedules quizzes. You have to write EVERYTHING for the test though, so don't ditch class too often(or get a friend who takes good notes). He quite often uses a role sheet, so you can have a friends sign you in if you cant make it to class.
He's the best Hist teacher i ever had. you must take notes and show up for class or you will be lost. everything he talks about will be on the test. His test consist of matching terms and multiple choice so it's impossible to fail his class cause it's too easy. I plan on taking him for 150 next semester.
I truely enjoyed his class. He is very smart and not to bad to look at too. I really learned more than I thought I would.
Dr. Stiegler is great! He went to Harvard actually. He is so knowledgeable about history. He makes it interesting cause its like one big story. You should go to class though and listen, cause he doesnt follow or like to book. all i use the book for is matching terms. i usually have a somewhat large amount of notes, but easy to study for.
Pretty good teacher. GO TO CLASS and take notes, even if it doesn't seem relevant. He writes all over the board, but if you follow what he's saying you'll do fine. You may need to use a recorder. He goes off topic a little bit, but it always pertains to the lesson.
Be sure you get a recorder an write down everything he says. He goes off subject sometimes and it is not always easy to figure out what to write down. You have to be able to write fast
Go to class and write everything he says! He gives a study guide and the exam is straight vocabulary. If you study vocab, you make an A, guaranteed! Take Stiegler for sure.
Stiegler writes left-handed across the board, so you have to kind of read backwards. For the Honors course, all of the tests are hand-written essays. If you aren't in pain by the end of the exam, you probably haven't written enough. He does keep the class pretty interesting though. However he DOES NOT post grades online. You need to track them.
Dr. Stiegler is a high quality professor. He is extremely intelligent and enthusiastic about the material. His humor is a bit odd. If you can analyze the notes from his lecture, you will do well in his class.
He is a great professor. He really knows the content. He does sometimes go on tangents, but it's always relevant to the material. If you attend class, take notes, and study, you will do great. I highly recommend him.
He knows his stuff but if you don't like hearing about others opinons on politics, don't take him. He's very anti-american and will let you know that. Bashes the US conveinently in all lectures
Never uses power point and gives information in a format which is easy to take notes. Easy to follow and speaks clearly and at a good pace. Doesn't just give you randoms facts and tests you on what he teaches in class. I will be taking more of his classes.
Take good notes and you'll do fine. Learn the vocabulary because it's a huge part of the tests and it's easy points! Good teacher.
His lectures are pretty non-boring, he's interested in the material and it shows. He tells funny jokes, but you have to look past his often poor delivery to enjoy them. His tests are thorough and somewhat difficult, but he leaves you a lot of room for error. You could get around 115% on each test if you got every question right.
Dr. Stiegler writes everything on the board, no slides. Tends to get confusing when he writes because he starts on the right side of the board and moves to the left, which many students are not accustomed to. He's very knowledgeable, which can also lead to confusion as HE knows what he's talking about but the class may get lost in the sea of notes.
He is not clear with grading criteria. You learn quickly that to do well on the tests, you must memorize every single piece of info that he gives and be able to regurgitate it in essay form. The less you writer, the fewer points you get. Write EVERYTHING, and do not expect feedback. However, you can haggle for points if the occasion calls for it.
His tests were one of the hardest I've ever had to do. He doesn't really tell you exactly what he is looking for, or tells you how he grades the tests. DO NOT SKIP CLASS! If so, you will most likely not be able to pass the test.
He knows what he is talking about, but I don't think he is good at communicating it. He lectures and you have to take notes, but he rambles and mumbles and sometimes it is hard to follow his train of thought. For honors, his tests were a copied piece of loose leaf with a few titles scribbled on it that you had to write extensively about.
Grade was based on tests and attendance, that was all. Lectures were tolerable, and always covered test material. Provided key term handouts before every test. No assignments, no extra credit.
I was terrified to take his class because of the reviews I've read, but I LOVED his class. I loved how he just got in front of the class and lectured, you took your notes, and it was up to you to study them. He does ramble and mumble, but I easily got used to it after a few weeks. He may not be for everyone, but I loved his class.
Dr Stiegler is a chill guy who always has a funny story to tell. However the way he sets up his classes strikes me as lazy. For tests you have to regurgitate as much information from the notes as possible into 3-5 essay questions. The more you write the better. There are no analytical skills required, so if pure memorization is your thing, take him
His class is pretty easy. He checks role daily & you dont want to miss bc he covers alot per class. He writes important stuff all over the board, so as long as you follow along & take notes youll be fine. I recorded his lectures which made studying easier. Dont wait last minute for the vocab quizzes, bc some are hard to find or not English words .
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!! It was so hard, all of his tests were essays. Sometimes up to 4 on each test in 55 minutes. I stressed about this class so much and to even get a low A takes studying for days. He is so scatterbrained and writes random things everywhere. Here's a helpful hint: take Honors Hist 105/106. They have multiple choice tests.
Dr. Steigler is a very well educated man. You can tell that he knows what he's talking about when he teaches, plus he's pretty funny. My only complaint are that the only grades we have is 4 tests and maybe 3 or 4 quizzes, so you have to be prepared. He does end up dropping the lowest test grade fortunately. Textbook isn't required but it helped.
Lectures can seem long at times, but he's funny so it makes up for it. He sometimes rambles on, but he writes all his notes all over the board, so it's easy to take notes. The tests are exactly what he lectures on and what your notes should be. I really enjoyed this class. Attendance is mandatory. There's no book. All the info is in his lectures.
He is an pretty easy professor since his courses consist of lectures and essays. He takes roll, so all you have to do is show up on time, take notes and write essays for tests. And his finals are not cumulative.
I took his class o line and I will never take it again. When I emailed him to schedule an appointment he was too lazy to schedule a time that worked with my schedule. He is a horrible Professor
I took this course over the summer, and it was about the history of Europe from 1945 onward. Not exciting, but I took it to earn my History minor and I had taken this professor three times before. It says to get the book, but don't do that for an online class since that's a waste of time. The course is simply three essay-filled tests and a final.
His lectures were sloppy and unorganized, which made it hard to take notes & study for the tests. Use the book to study & make sure you study enough in advance.
He made the class easy for him, but not for his students. The way he taught was lazy and ineffective, which is why the class as a whole often performed poorly on tests. If you take him, good luck.
I personally only liked one thing about this class: learning about the Julio-Claudian dynasty. Other than that, the class was pretty mediocre, his notes were completely sloppy and unorganized which made it difficult to take notes in class even when you record his lectures. Just make sure you know the vocabulary for the class.
I do not recommend taking this professor because while taking him myself, I got lost in his lectures. He writes things on the board then talks about them but that's where I got lost. The quizzes are very hard. He never says where in the texbook the lecture material is.
his lectures are messy and very hard to follow. he writes things on the chalk board and erases in random places to write something new. he jumps all over and is kinda hard to follow if you dont understand/like history. his quizzes are hard and not very many other grades to help. if you take him, GOODLUCK! :/
His lectures are all over the place and very hard to follow. He writes things on the board and you can't even understand what he is writing. He gives out three quizzes and you can use your notes for them, but you only have 27 min to take a 33 question quiz. And his final is the same way 43 questions 36 minutes worth 130 points.
Attendence is mandatory, as if you skip class more than once, you start losing points. Tests are purely 3-4 essays based off of notes in lectures. The only problem I had was that he doesn't give feedback on your tests, so you do not know why you lost points and cannot fix it for future tests.
It is very hard to follow in his class because he lectures about irrelevant topics. Along with the irrelevant topics, what he writes down on the board is never on the test. His handwriting is very messy. It was very hard for me to distinguish his writing because he also does not explain him self.
He lectures from the time class starts to the time it ends. His lectures are very scattered and never stays on topic but expects you to read the textbook to know what hes talking about. Every class you miss after 2 drops your class grade a whole letter grade each time. Never emails you back and the number on his syllabus isnt even his.
He writes messy notes all over the board and is very hard to follow. He is rude to students when they ask him questions about his notes/lecture.
This professor has assigned only tests and nothing else. 70% of the information on the tests will be taught in class, so if you miss class, chances are you will fail the test. He posts notes onto Moodle but that's only 20% of the information you actually need to be studying.
He has knowledge but he cant get it across in a structured way. He is very scatterbrained and will say important stuff but not write it down so you have to essentially write everything he says. I recommend looking at the textbook because there is stuff in there you need to know but he wont tell you to read it. Also the only grade you have is test
Some people thinks this class is tough. He gives reviews on what will be on the exams and have matching. Go to class and study the notes then you will pass the class. He also drops the lowest test grade at the end of the semester.
Stiegler needs to reasses how he teaches, because it isn't working for his students most of the time. His tests are messy and do not go over what he talks about in class, nor the notes he posts on Moodle. His notes are scatterbrained on short, both the ones he writes in class and posts on moodle. He never brings up the textbook in class. Avoid.
He is INSANELY lecture heavy and scatterbrained. It's not even worth buying the textbook because nothing he talks about is in the book. Not even 14 days into school and I plan on dropping his class asap.
Extremely lecture heavy, smart guy but doesnt make things clear for students. Messy notes and overall bad class
Dr. Stiegler is a nice guy but overall extremely disorganized and not savvy with technology. Lectures were hard to follow and would regularly turn into tangents about random topics. He does give you the questions for the test a couple days ahead, but that's because his tests are entirely written-response and graded very harshly.
Straight lecture from test to test. Sometimes he goes on rants about the most random of things. Tests are difficult because most of the notes he puts on the board don't even help. He curves the test cause a lot of ppl fail. I still have to get above an 80 with the curve. He only grades are the tests and final, but drops the lowest test. Might drop.
Not as terrible as people make him out to be but certainly not great. Very lecture heavy. Test are curved and are pretty easy if you halfway listened and do the matching. He drops the lowest grade. Only uses textbook for matching terms, which can be found online. Take a different elective if you can and not with him.
-he's mildly jumbled sometimes which can get confusing -don't just write what's on the board, write everything that comes out of his mouth -majorly curves tests, my lowest test grade was a 118% -if you don't do the matching, you're gonna fail, but it's easy and all in the textbook -the only thing you'll do in this class is take tests
Dr. Stiegler is very educated in his field but is sometimes very hard to follow. His lectures and notes would sometimes be scattered and not follow a concise timeline. I would recommend to attend his classes as material is rarely posted online and there are only 4 exams including the final worth points. Write everything that he says and study.
Write down everything he says even if you do not think it will be important. Some tests were really easy others were not. The textbook is just used for the vocab on each test. I found his stories very interesting and they helped me to remember information. I liked his many jokes. Giant grading curve. Only grades are the 5 tests. Drops 1 test grade.
Dr.Steigler is very scatter brained and hard to follow. His lectures are all over the place and often result in him rambling on about unrelated topics. You have to write down everything he says and hope the information he provides is actually on the exam. He posts almost nothing on his Moodle page and does not give any assignments outside of exams.
Semester only just started, but it's very clear that he has no idea of how to use the newly implemented Canvas software Nicholls has switched to - entire pages are Latin placeholder text. As far as I can tell, the only things he plans to grade are the three tests and the final (all of which will be in essay form). There are no other assignments.
Dr. Kurt would lecture from his head. That often caused him to go on tangents about things not pertaining to class.
He is disrespectful in the way he talk to students. If you have to ask to take a test another day, good luck. he will become disrespectful and act as if you did something awful. we never use this text book and he throws random stuff on the test from it. its a whole hour of yapping for a class thats all test. No hw, no quizzes. nothing but test.
His class consisted of only lectures and everything on the test was in the lecture. He went on tangents a few times, but not enough for my grade to be affected. He's not online savvy so everything is in person. Also while attendance wasn't mandatory, I'd highly recommend it.
He is so rude to students. he doesn't like answering questions. he only writes on a chalk board. very unorganized. the only grades you get is 3 test grades and a final exam. do not take him!!!
Dr. Stiegler lectures the whole 55 minutes of class. He doesn't provide students with homework or assignments, so our only grades are three tests and a final. If you do not do well on the tests, then you will have a hard time passing his class. He doesn't answer students' questions in class, he will most likely tell you to go home and search it.
Incredibly unclear what specific information will be on the tests. Doesn't use any technology, so if you take notes by copying what's on a powerpoint slideshow, good luck. Only grades 4 tests, and drops one of them, so you're left with a terribly small amount of room for failure. Nothing's open book either, nothing to make the class any easier.
This teacher was the worst I had this semester. He made no attempt to get to know any students names and was often rude whenever a student spoke up. He would drone on about random subjects like “if any of us had goat cheese before” and then would have stuff we never talked about on the tests. Overall, I would never take him again.
Professor Stiegler's lectures can be tough to follow, but if you stay engaged and use resources like the textbook and Unstuckstudy, you can succeed. His tests are challenging but fair, and he drops the lowest grade. Attend class and study diligently.
Dr. Stigler is tough! The only thing you need from the textbook is vocabulary terms, and how he defines them is different than the other. So, know the entire term plus the context of the term. He only grades by tests, and each question is worth about 3 points per question. I studied AT LEAST 3 days before the test and I believe thats why I passed!
Class is ONLY lecture. ONLY tests (no homework). His class is only with chalk on a chalk board and talking, no PowerPoint. His class was enjoyable for someone who is interested in history because he knows what he's talking about. His test consisted of questions from his lecture and people or events from the textbook.
The most terrible professor i met in the Nicholls
