He is an awesome professor! Although the subject matter is very hard, the lectures make sense. He is really funny, making side jokes and comments about things. I enjoyed this class a lot, in spite of the 8:00 time.

Very funny guy who demands respect. Very helpful in answering questions, even for ohter classes. He's loud so you will never ask your neighbor what he said. He has realistic expectations of students. KNOW how to calculate % yield! Great guy who bursts into song during lab on occasion!
I love the lectures. Go Dr. Wiegel go!
I have had bad experiences with wiegel. He (addmittedly) treats us more like his audience than his class. I got an A- in 321 with Dr. Muller and am getting a C/D in his class, with no conscious change in effort. I find his lectures unorganized and hard to follow. Stay away if you like organization.
if you can, stay away from him...he is by far the worst teacher i have ever had. he admits in class that he hates you. not to mention when you go in a get help he won't help you instead he states you have 30 secs and then must leave. it seems like he hates teaching exams are IMPOSSIBLE
This guy's a genious, but can't teach effectively for the life of him....no organization, u never know what chapters you are covering without searching yourself. Very frustrating and his reviews were always at inconvenient times in the middle of the day. does curve grades largely for C's are endof semester..stingy w/ A's and B's. Funny guy though.
The exams are impossible, they are so hard that it doesn't matter if you study.
He really fails to teach organic chemistry holistically; His disorganization makes trends difficult to see. Worst of all, he administers the ACS final at the end of the semester, even though he never goes over nomenclature in class, and writes general reactions instead of specific chemicals, that are unidentifiable without prev. exposure.
He's big, scary, and likes to pick on people in front of the whole class. He knows his stuff but is unclear about what he wants you to learn. He's also very loud; don't sit in the front row!
Oh man, a class that requires you to WORK for your grade!! OH NO!...He's a very good teacher that expects alot of you, but nothing outside of what he teaches. Easily one of the best profs I've had up to this point.
One of the best profs in the department. His class, while difficult, was enjoyable.
The best lab I have ever been in for Chemistry. Great teacher and fun to work with. Makes lab awsome, and is pretty easy.
Crazy, crazy man, but very funny. Overall he's a good teacher, and probably the easiest out of the organic teachers. Exams can be tricky; he likes the throw things in to trip you up.
Cut the jokes, they suck. He thinks he's a funny man, but really should concentrate on teaching b/c he's not very good at it. Material is clear, explanations are not. I would try and take another prof if you're going to take this class.
If you can't get an A in this class you are really a dimwit. Just go to class. He gives tons of extra credit. I got an A without taking one of the tests. Build him sweet volcanoes! That explode!!!
OK...the person b4 me has obviously never even had Wiegel! Are you kidding me? Never take a test and still get an A? Make hima a volcano?!? In Organic Chemistry? That's rediculous! I actually had the guy, unlike the previous person. I liked him. He was surly one of the toughest teachers I've ever had, but the class is meant to weed out people.
Yes, he makes jokes during lecture. I happen to like the extra geeky references he makes all the time. He randomly bursts out in song during lab, but that's part of the fun. Don't take him if you can't handle being made fun of. If you can dish back what he gives out you'll be fine.
Wiegel's loud, funny, but annoying at times. Read the book and do the homework problems b/c his lectures don't really help. Exams are tough so study lots!!
Wiegel is your classic nut! But he's fabulously hilarious at times. I found that his lectures more or less just confused me. Know your mechanisms forward and backward and get to know your text book real well - you'll need it!
Know your mechanisms and do the homework problems he assigns! Exams are similar to homework problems.
HE is funny and very willing to help you understand. He makes class fun even though the concepts are difficult.
This class is not an easy class but with a lot of study and luck this class could be just fine. Dr. Wiegel really allows the class to flow well and keeps you interested with his side comments. I would take him over the other organic professors
There are few professors at this university, or any university, that can teach and get people interested in chemistry like Kurt Wiegel. Incredible, just quite doesn't sum up how good of a teacher he is. Beware, however, if you're looking for an easy A, you're in for a time from hell.
He is an amazing teacher! Wonderful guy very helpful. Hard hard content though.
Amazing teacher! Will keep you awake at 8am for sure. (Youtube his name, you'll find some interesting stuff) His class is not that hard. Take him over the other organic teachers.
Tall, bald and practically irresistible.
Dr. Wiegel is awesome. Hes funny and explains things very well. His side remarks and humor make the class worth taking. I highly reccomend him!
Wiegel knows his stuff and with sufficient time can help anyone understand the material. He is a funny man, but thinks he is funnier than he really is. Always needs to be the center of attention which often times just makes him too annoying to pay attention to what he is saying. Overall a decent prof, but needs to get over himself.
Wiegel is a fantastic prof! He really is! Organic is a really difficult subject, and he teaches it very well. You don't really need to read the book because he covers everything in class, however, you NEED to come to class. The course is difficult, you'll need to study. Lab is super easy though. You have a partner for every lab!
Wiegel does a very good job of keeping you entertained in class and he is also really good at answering questions in class. It is a challenging course and his tests are hard, but he does get you well prepared.
Awesome professor, makes ochem easy and interesting.
AWESOME PROFESSOR!!!I highly recommend taking Wiegel if you can! He acts tough and cranky but he's actually very helpful if you don't ask dumb questions. He makes it very interesting by adding humor to everything in the lecture.
Dr. Wiegel is a very funny man. he will keep you more entertained at 8 am than any professor on campus. I think he does a good job of teaching the material and the class is not that difficult. Do I like the guy? No. He picks favorites in the beginning of the semester and if you aren't one of them, he wont help you. He is a very arrogant man.
Wiegel is the most air-headed professor I have ever met. I hear he is good for ochem, but could care less about 103 because it's so easy for him. EVERY assignment/test/quiz I have turned in has come back with numerous mistakes. He adds up pts wrong, marks things wrong that are supposed to be right and vice versa. I would avoid him at all costs.
Dr. Wiegel is a funny guy, but he isn't very interested in chem 103 and it shows. He specifically told my class that we weren't allowed to come to his office b/c he didn't want to see us. wow. there are so many mistakes on tests and quizzes it's frustrating. i've heard worse things about morales, but i would try to avoid him for chem 103.
Wiegel is NO HELP AT ALL. Especially for Chem 103. He does not care about what he is teaching us. The material he teaches in class is completely different than what is on the test and quizzes. Overall he is a good guy outside of class but if you are looking for higher than a C don't take him. CHem 103 is a prereq for a lot of classes...good luck.
I thought he was a great professor- he's a tough grader and expects you to put effort in outside of class, but that's because he wants you to learn. He can come off as intimidating at first, but he's really nice and if you ask him questions he's more than willing to help. He's also very entertaining, even at 8am. I would definitely recommend him!
awesome professor, really likes teaching ochem material and he does a good job of it. It's a hard class but that is to be expected.
He is one of the least helpful professors I've ever had. I absolutely hated his teaching method- no organization at all. Also took forever grading every single thing handed in. I highly do not recommend him.
Extremely helpful with very flexible office hours. Lenient, but challenging grader. Very enthusiastic about the material being taught (hard to do with organic chem). A bit off-the-wall, but that doesn't detract from his teaching ability. Adept in both the lab and lecture setting. Tells very useful (sometimes) and funny anecdotes.
I had him for Organic 1 & 2 and he was hands down the best professor I've ever had at UWEC. His explanations we clear, he was very enthusiastic, although you have to study because the tests are difficult. He's also very funny and entertaining. He is also very willing to help. Like I said hands down best professor I had at UWEC.
he makes ochem lectures not boring definetly better to have him in lab as well as lecture. explains ideas well but tests are difficult because of the material need to study a lot. he is fun but will call you out but he pokes fun at a lot of people so dont feel bad
Had him for ochem 1 and 2, and reaffirmed my interest in chem. Would take if you have the chance. However, he's kinda unorganized. Lectures were quite hilarious and kept me awake from 8 AM until 9:15 AM. Also extremely attractive ;)
Very specific style of teaching, but it works
From the south and not afraid to get a little sassy.
Dr Wiegel teaching style is very straight forward and blunt, he is very funny. his exams are very challenging but not unfair. HE IS VERY FUNNY. he does take forever to get assignments back to you.
Hilarious professor. Exams are a little on the difficult side, but he does exam on the material he teaches. Despite what he might say, he truly does care about each and every one of his students. Fun lectures on tough material.
Very difficult class material. Didn't make us jump through hoops by giving us busy work, was happy to give everyone A's if everyone understood material. Absolutely great lecturer.
Super funny. Swears alot so be prepared and also come with sense of humor because he will pick on you. Take it over winterim if you can!!!!
He is so awesome and makes class super interesting!!! Great grader and cares for his students!
Super funny! Took this class over winterim and thought it was going to suck because it was 7 hours long but it was the best decision I could have ever made! Always get out of class early, gave us take home exams, and always made class super entertaining! TAKE!!!
Hot as heck. Take this professor. He is eye candy. On top of being attractive. He is very straight-forward and cuts out the material that is not necessary. Test are tough but study and you'll be fine.
Wiegel is a funny guy and not your average professor. He is very relaxed. It took sometimes over a month to get an exam or assignment back. Basically if you do the lab reports you get 100% on them. He is a fair grader and he knows his material, however, I had no idea what my grade was all semester until the very end. Doesn't assign chapters though.
I didn't learn anything about polymers in this course, but this man is a demigod, a real Adonis in a sea of orcs. Read the book cause he is worthless in the classroom, but I would totally do this again just to get a glimpse of his luminous forehead.
Professor Wiegel was a very funny guy and that made lab enjoyable. The thing I found frustrating was that he never returned a single paper the entire semester and we had no idea what our grade would be. At the end of the course I asked for him to explain the breakdown of my grade and he never responded to my email. It was very unprofessional.
Does not take time to truly help you outside of class. Seems annoyed with questions during office hours. Make sure to read the book outside of class and use the book for example problems.
Dr. Wiegel is a compassionate guy. He is freaking hilarious, and makes lecture easy to attend. He is also an extremely caring person with a huge heart. He helped me out in a time of need, and was there for me like no other professor I have ever had. His class is very tough and test heavy. Show up every day, ask questions and you will do fine.
Awesome dude
Awesome teacher
Most entertaining professor I have ever had. Difficult class, but Wiegel is honest about the difficulty and willing to help you work through it. Grades very fair and is a reasonable person overall.
It's a hard class, sometimes not the best at explaining concepts, but lecture is interesting and he'll gladly answer questions, tests/quizzes were fair, put the work in and you'll do okay
Wiegel makes lectures fun and relateable. The information is hard, but he tries to make it as understandable as possible. Reading the book makes it a little easier. He is a good professor.
The most charismatic professor you'll ever have. Being in class was always a blast.
literally the funniest professor i've ever had
Amazing professor with a grea sense of humor. Not recommended for those who get butthurt over small things. So glad I had him in the morning for the first class of the day because it helped set the mood for the rest of the day. I am considering taking OChem 2 just so that i can be in his class again even though i dont even need it.
Class was difficult (I mean it is organic chemistry) but Wiegel was awesome and always made the class more fun!
Hilarious. Worth going to class, not a traditional professor, really fun to have.
What a man.
Wiegel's personality made lectures fun and he explained things in a clear manner. OChem is definitely hard, and you'll need to work for your grade, but Wiegel does everything he can to make sure that you are successful. Reading the book does help clear up any confusion. Overall, Wiegel is a great professot and I would take him if you can.
Hilarious fair grader
Wiegel is by far the funniest prof I have ever had. Reading from the book is very helpful. Everything you need to know is in your notes, but the book helps clear up confusion
Dr. Wiegel is great when it comes to explaining things and answering questions without making you feel stupid. He doesn't assign readings or book problems, but I would highly recommend using the textbook if you're struggling. I would recommend taking this professor as long as you're patient with getting grades back.
Dr. Wiegel is absolutely hilarious, and is very helpful outside of class. One downfall is that he doesn't assign book problems, and I personally struggled grasping the material straight from lecture. If you take initiative to read the book and do extra problems on your own time, it will be extremely beneficial to your grade.
Wiegel was hilarious which made going to class a lot easier and he really knows the material. He actually makes you learn the content by assigning homework which makes you read ahead and learn it for yourself then a few days later he will teach that section to supplement what you taught yourself, which is really nice. Would definitely take again
Great professor that really knows his material (which you can see through his lectures). His exams are not easy but you can usually get a few points for at least attempting if you don't know an answer. He doesn't assign homework, but my recommendation would be to do book problems anyway just to make sure you understand the material. Go to class!!
Really enjoyed my class, although didn't get the full experience due to professor injury. But Dr. Wiegel is super caring and wants you to learn and actually UNDERSTAND the material. I would highly recommend going to all lectures because there's often hints dropped on what to study. Not an easy class but made more enjoyable with a good professor.
Graded us easily. I can't speak for the lower level chem classes, but he said his philosophy is to make sure you don't leave school hating science, so he makes his senior level classes easier and aims for a more conversational atmosphere than a class where you get lectured too all day.
Amazing for lab. Lab quizzes were SO easy. If you asked him a question one on one, you feel extremely comfortable and everything gets broken down to the core. Awesome professor
Wish I had had him for lecture and not just the lab section. I had him for Organic I and really enjoyed his teaching style. Is really funny, cares about his students, and understands circumstances that you maybe going through. He wants you to succeed. Just don't break things in lab. The wrath of Wiegel makes Thanos look like a chump.
Took this difficult class during Winterim, but he made the class enjoyable. I really like his lecture style because he makes sure that everyone understood before moving on. Tests are difficult, however he will give you specific information the tests will be on. Don't be afraid to ask questions! He wants you to succeed!
I've had Dr. Wiegel for three different courses and an additional lab section. He's the best professor I've had during my tenure at UWEC. I struggled with different aspects of Chemistry and had to retake Ochem 2 but having the opportunity to do so with Dr. Wiegel has been a godsend. Even with covid, his online vids really help. Cares a ton.
Dr. Wiegel is a really good lecturer, and gives you the tools you need to succeed. In lab, he expects you to have already read through the lab and doesn't like to answer many questions there. I found it intimidating to ask questions in general, but he is better one-on-one. He can be disorganized, but wants to make sure the class is learning well.
At first Dr. Wiegel seems intimidating, but he really is a great lecturer and wants students to do well. I honestly don't care for organic chem but I learned a lot, would definitely recommend taking lab with him
He hates answering questions and gets annoyed at the class relatively easily. He came unprepared to lab multiple times and it was very disorganized. We did not learn any of the crucial things we were supposed to learn in this lab.
I had Dr. Wiegel for CHEM 106. He is the best professor I have ever had. He has an amazing sense of humor and is very helpful in and outside of the classroom.
Not accessible outside of class, often canceled class and left early or showed up late. Lectures were entertaining. Active class participation and ensured everyone understood material. Would not recommend this professor if studying for MCAT or GRE and need good ochem for graduate/professional schools. Be ready to learn material on your own.
Dr. Wiegel is not the best professor. However, he is not the worst professor I have ever had. He's very caring and will take the time to review CHEM 325 questions. Go over previous notes/quizzes to get a good idea for exams. He also tells fun stories
Had great lectures that keep you engaged. Though there is a non-zero chance that a few classes will be canceled and the labs can get out of wack as a result. Though I didn't feel as though I was missing out on any O chem. 9/10 would chemistry again.
He frequently cancels classes due to migraines, and his teaching style is disruptive: He screams to get the class's attention. His style of teaching the class is only examples. He is underprepared and admits to being lazy, and his notes are unclear. Students end up teaching the class to themselves. Do someone else if possible.
do not take biochemistry with him. he will cancel class all the time and put things on the exams that weren't taught in class or talked about.
He cancels class almost once every week, along with his office hours bc he has a migraine. He swears at us when someone is talking. His lectures are only examples and doesn't explain anything at all. If he loses your exam, you will have to search though 250 exams to find it. Also he ends class early bc he doesn't "feel like being here anymore"
Tells us to not use the textbook because he doesn't like how it is worded, but then when someone asks about something on an exam or homework that we didn't cover in class he will say "well it was in the textbook". He is very lazy and doesn't put any effort into teaching whatsoever.
I had Kurt for about 11 weeks until someone had to step in his place. Throughout the course I learned his favorite movies, what he does in his personal life and basically anything but Chem 150. When he did try and lecture he would expect we knew what he was teaching and got offended easily when the class asked questions.
Terrible. He cancels class and office hours every single week. He doesn't have slides, or anything to go off of. He makes no sense and no one listens. He screams and swears. I wish I could dropout. I highly dislike this unhelpful man.
people give him bad rap for 150, he was SO nice and if you payed attention you would do well. Explains things well and always happy to answer questions or go over things personally. Little disorganized and the OWL hw was a lot but not crazy. I looked forward to his class and was sad when he left week 11, he was knowledgable, check out textbook fs
Week 11 of the semester he was put on leave and someone else had to step in his place. The only good thing was that everything was weighted the same in the gradebook, so homework and exams were weighted the same. He brings loose leaf notebook pages and fiddles with them during lecture getting lost in his own notes. Cancels office hours a lot.
He was very unorganized and I didn't know where we were or when things were due. He wouldn't make assignments on canvas until day they were due which was confusing and made it hard to turn in. His exams were hard and had questions on things we were not even taught. Does not provide much reasoning behind why something was marked wrong. UNORGANIZED!
The professor can be hit-or-miss, but if you put in the effort, you can do well. Unstuck AI was a lifesaver for studying - way better than ChatGPT alone.
