he taught African-American history at NCCC when i was there and the class was really good. everyone should take a class they normally wouldn't take just to get a different perspective on the world and this class did that for me!! he likes to swear

GREAT teacher! Serioualy amazing. And he ALWAYS tells stories. Like, his niece, Mohini, was on the 1997 and 2001 World Gymnastics Championships Teams. She got a bronze with the American team, and made vault finals both times!

Doctor B is by far the best professor I have ever had! His teaching style is one of a kind, they just don't make professors like him. UB is sooo lucky to have him. He opens your mind on different views and touchy topics. It's one of the only courses where I actually kept my entire binder! I wish he could teach every course!

Prof B is amongst the top memorable instructors/mentors I had at UB, both for his passion and his unique ability to keep his students engaged, empowered, and educated by ingraining historical facts with current social concepts. My only regret is not participating more in his optional post class sessions. If you have the opportunity, take his class!

Professor B has to be one of the most insightful, honest, straight forward professors I know. When you talk about honesty in a professor, he is as real as it gets. I've never seen a professor who offers a 3hr NIGHT class, & students want to stay for additional "after hours" sessions 2 learn more. And that's most of his class! Best Professor Status!

In college it is all too common to have a professor who talks at you for an entire class. Dr. B is one of the most passionate professors I have ever had. He creates an easy learning enviornment for his students through his knowledge and his passion for his students. He is also hilarious. Overall his expectations are clear for students.

Dr. B is the best professor I ever had at UB. There is not many teachers at UB that jump up and down on the desks to keep people interested. I graduated in May and I actually miss going to his class. I can't say that for any other class. The workload is not bad, and as long as you pay attention (which you will) the class is easy to succeed in.

You really come away with alot of knowledge and perspective.I don't recall many times when people didn't stay after class to continue discussion. No two classes are the same (did it two different years) and this is definitely a must-take class.

I think Dr.B is the BOMB! His expectations are clear and while the class was not a cake walk, an A is very obtainable. Prepare to have your world rocked! He is a total powerhouse full of knowledge! This class is a perfect blend of race, culture, and gender as a study. A chance to experience hip-hop at it's zenith while understanding its social and economical construct from angles that extend past the African American community. This class opened my eyes to the way I view myself and the people around me concerning issues on race and gender.

You feel alive in this class He makes sure that he gets to know all of his students and shows genuinely that he cares for you. For a class that is 3 hours on a thursday night and half the class stays for an extra hour. You will be inspired!

I am proud to say that I had the opportunity to be part of R.A.G.E. for my last semester of college. This was by far the most intellectual class I have taken in college. It was unlike any undergraduate class I have taken. We were expected to do graduate level work and have intellectual conversations. He is truly an amazing professor.

I am a non-black student. Dr. B works hard to include and respect all his students in lecture while still not sugar-coating controversial issues. Dr. B gives you great sources to read and he, as much as I don't want to admit it, renewed my interest in reading. He's a good dude and hard working teacher.

Hip hop and social issues is unlike any other class you will take at UB. Dr. B is very knowledgable and a true hip hop historian & lover. By the end of the semster you will learn so much more than music. The class became more about building a safe & loving learning community where students could learn, grow, and be unapologetically themselves.

I have never witnessed a professor be able to engage a class that way Dr. B does. He definitely opens your eyes to issues you're not used to discussing in a classroom. This is not high school Part II. Dr. B's class is a space of intellectual and emotional dignity, a place for students to have a voice and be included in a 3 hour explosion of thought of staggering depth that I would never miss, and always stay after for up to 2 hours to continue the conversation and to rhyme. The assignments were straightforward. You are required to be engaged in the class discussions and you are required to attend almost every class.

I am forever changed. I am a transfer student who came to UB and didn't find any connection with my professors and constantly felt like a number. Not only is he awesome at teaching his subject, but also at teaching life. HIs priceless teachings have impacted my personality, my perspective towards life, my decision-making process, all have been transformed because of him. His class is like an intellectual treasure. Aside from being an amazing educator, I can truly say I have gained a mentor. Dr. B instills a passion in his students that, for me, translated into the rest of my life. After my completion of AAS 261, I am thrilled to be able to call Dr. B a mentor of mine. The way in which he communicates with his students is a gift, and it's one that very few educators possess. African American Studies was one of my first classes in college and I wouldn't have wanted it any other way. Dr. B is a fantastic professor that exposes his students to new was of thinking. The day of our 'Breakdancing lecture' happened to be the day after the presidential elections had concluded. Hearts were heavy, students were uneasy. 10+ of Dr.B's previous students came back to visit, because they knew it was a safe place and they were welcomed. Nothing I've experienced in college brings more of a bond between an eclectic group of people. Anyone is welcomed. The environment he creates is unmatched. I took his class in the fall of 2015 and have been to many classes sense. To see 15 former students come together last night just to be back in that environment that is so healing was special

Until 11/10,I would have described Dr B using adjectives like amazing, hilarious, caring, interactional,etc. But the Hip Hop class on 11/10, which was the B-boying class and happened to be the day after the election, made me add HEALER to the list. It was mesmerising to see 15+ of his former students visit only because they felt safest in his class

In my time here at UB I've never had a professor as amazing as Dr.B. He is one of the most charismatic and uplifting teachers that this campus has to offer. B forces students to craft their own opinions on controversial topics rather than think based off of conventional wisdom. I would 100% enroll in any class offered with him as the professor.

Dr.B's class is the shortest 3 hour lecture you can ever take in college! He is one of the only Professors that actual cares about his students. His energy and passion is contagious, as long as you follow directions you will not only be successful in his class but he will teach you how to succeed in other classes as well. Best Professor!

This professor has literally inspired me to become an AAS double major with my psychology major. So inspiring that I brought my own father to class and he said "If I had professors like that when i was in school, I would get A In every class." Hey Dr B is cool but I don't think the reviewers here know how to critique. I loved it but I don't feel like I learned as much as we should have in terms of history, black culture, ect. Letting everyone be heard is great, but most of our time was lost to hearing opinions from people who don't have a phD; not what I came 4. Needs balance.

If you're ready for it, this class can absolutely change your life. Dr. B teaches you to think for yourself and read between lines. The material, the topics, the discussions make connections between events of the past with current events. If you don't take Dr. B during your time at UB, you're missing out on the best thing at this school.

Dr. B was the most influential and inspiration professors I had an UB. He opens your mind to things beyond his coursework and genuinely cares about his students. Great class taught by a great professor and I would recommend this and any of his other classes to anyone. Dr. B does a great job to make everyone feel welcome in his class and even as a Trump supporter I felt free to express my opinions. This class covers very interesting and essential material not covered in other classes.

Dr. B not only teaches you about African American History, but he teaches you life skills. His teaching style helped land me a job in the field I went to school for. I learned to respect my peers, be on time and to have educated discussions by listening. In an African American Studies course, he never once made myself, a white male, feel alienated.

I highly enjoyed this three week course online but in my opinion it was too short to get to the roots of the topics we were taught. I liked the recorded lectures and the reading materials provided were superb. I sat in on a lecture of his last week and it rocked. Making connections one lecture at a time!

Dr. B drops so much knowledge in only one lecture that it has me researching what we talk about outside of class every week. Lectures spark that curiosity of learning that some of us may have lost. I was in Prof B's class almost 20 years ago. Till this day I think about the valuable lessons he taught. That truth almost always lies between the lines and beneath the surface and that it us up to us to get to the bottom of it. Take any opportunity to sit in his class or just get to know Dr B. One of the best professors I had as an undergrad at UB. Truly cares about his students and what is going on in the world.
