He has a great attitude and environment friendly class, but when he grades material, he is terrible. He expects you to know exactly word by word definitions and concepts! He even said it took him like seven years to remember terms and concepts. Doesn't reason with students. His required homework and exams are different from the textbook material.
Do not take this class if you are aiming for a high grade, he expects way too much out of his students. Homework is not hard if you read. Test questions are confusing. Short answer questions are vague. Expects you to be a master on the subject. Attending every class and doing all the readings, didn't help me on the difficult tests or short answers.
If you read the required material, there is no reason as to why you can't ace the homework and do well on tests. The class is pretty lecture heavy, but if you miss a day he puts up the lecture notes up to Canvas. He really likes to talk about Star Wars, which I don't think is a problem. You will not pass this class if you don't read from your book!
test questions are vague and worded poorly. Like most liberal professors, presents narratives instead of facts.
Essentially an adult child, in the worst way. Spends whole class preaching, information is useless. Consistently sends emails complaining about absences and poor grammar in assignments. Acts as if he knows all. Little in gradebook. Insists his class is more important than anything else you have going on. Incredibly self-righteous and hypocritical.
Professor Williams used a textbook that contradicted his lectures and refused to give points back when faced with these contradictions. "Choose the best answer" became a 50/50 chance of either choose the book answer or his answer. His tests have both grammatical errors as well as vague wording. His oral lectures also contained contradictions.
His expectations are so unnecessary that our academic advisors suggest to avoid taking his class. If your major is Anthro, do whatever you can to get another professor. He's really nice and has experienced a lot but he's not the prof to take. Half the class drops so it's not just the students' lack of dedication, but the way he teaches his class.
Professor Williams did not have very great lectures to help understand the material. I wouldnt recommend taking due to difficult grading and him expecting you to master every single aspect of anthropology. More than half of the class dropped due to his harsh standards. Please find another anthropology teacher because he is no help.
he is a funny, interesting professor and truly does teach a lot. however, he grades and tests you on the things he's never mentioned or emphasized in class. essentially everything you learn in lectures and assume you're supposed to know when studying is not useful when it comes to passing the class. he's a harsh grader as well!
I recommend you do yourself a favor and not take this class with this professor, he is very harsh on grading and his tests and quizzes contradict each other because the textbook will say one thing and hell say another, his lectures do not help at all and are useless, half my class dropped so if u want to fail a class then be my guest and take him
This class aint it, this bootleg Khalid lookin guy doesnt help at all with ur grade and it goes to show bc literally more than half the class dropped and even he realized he couldnt teach us well bc he would offer extra credit which everyone did but it was useless bc he grades horrible and of u take this class good luck bc youll need it
Would never take that class with him again. Good guy, poor professor.
This man is a horrible professor. just rants about his opinions the whole time. He teaches based off his own perception and discredits religion. He thinks science is the answer to all life's mysteries nd bases all of his homework in a way to where you have to agree. This class is HORRIBLE. never taken the time out my day to write a review until now
Study the chapters from the book or you won't pass. His lectures and presentations are irrelevant to what is on the quizzes and exams. This is not a class to be taken lightly, therefore if you're a procrastinator you will fail. Attendance is mandatory, but if you're going to be absent, give him a heads up.
Literally all the comments are true, avoid taking this class. Lots of information learned from the class, but its pointless when grading is harsh. You cant miss class no matter the circumstance or else he will drop you.
just dont do it. I never missed a day of class, did every single assignment given, tried my best, and I still failed.
This was literally the hardest class I have ever taken and Professor Williams doesnt just hand out As. You have to work very hard but at the end of the class you will have a well rounded understanding of physical anthropology that will stick with you a lifetime. I would definitely recommend this class but be prepared to work for your grade.
Professor Williams, in all honesty, is not a bad professor or man. He enjoys his star wars and game of thrones and its obvious. He is a really tough grader, but he does care about his students. If you take his class and feel like your really struggling I can not stress this enough... GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS it helped so much. Just show you care.
His quizzes & exams have NOTHING to do with what he talks about in lectures. If I wanted to have to teach myself with the book, I wouldve taken an online class. I really hope he reads all of these reviews & self-reflects. Were not failing because were lazy, WERE FAILING BECAUSE HES NOT GOOD AT HIS JOB
Don't get me wrong, this prof is passionate about the subject. But he needs to understand most if not all of his students aren't trying to be future anthropologists, they're fulfilling a gen ed. if you have more responsibilities outside of this class, avoid this prof. It requires way too much time, time that most college students don't have.
1.) Office Hours 2.) Ask questions in the lecture. 3.) Don't skip class. Lastly, he's giving out University level work. This isn't unethical, he just wants his students to try hard and succeed.
Instructor Williams will give you every opportunity to succeed in any of this classes. His personal experience is invaluable and that is reflected in much of his lectures. Do not miss class, read the dang book, and ask questions in class or in his office. Do not be too sensitive, Anthropology opens up everyone's world view. Absent, just tell him.
Great person, not very at teaching. He expects you to already know the material. He makes himself available to help you during office hours, ill give him that. But Thats what class is for. We spend more time talking about his opinions than actual class topic. Honestly, take another professor unless you are very serious about learning anthropology.
I was doing great in his class before the pandemic. He kept on being strict with the deadlines and grading despite the situation and thats okay.. whatever. But he also changed the assignments to make them harder despite knowing that some students are going through tough situations and despite the fact that hes teaching us less. Avoid this class.
His lectures are unclear, disorganized, and he goes off on so many unrelated tangents. It's funny how he's so strict about writing, but literally everything he hands out has at least 10 typos so you have to decipher what he's asking for. He just assumes that everyone knows the material and doesn't take the time to actually teach. Avoid him!
I don't think 350 characters is enough for me to sum up how awful this guy is. I've received almost all A's during my last two years of college and never once received a ZERO on any writing assignment. Zero's go to student's who don't have anything to turn in. I dropped the class with an EW so I can retake it with a reasonable teacher in summer.
This professor is the worst I have ever had. He does not care about his student, all matters for him is that you come in class, if you do not come in class twice he will drop you without trying to understand what is going on in your life. If I knew I would never take him!!!
Professor Williams is a very informative and structured educator. You will not pass the class if you don't attend class, read the material, and complete the assignments. However, he is very approachable and will confer with you outside of class to help you understand the material and gives great feedback on writing. Makes a lot of Star Wars jokes.
Had this prof the spring the pandemic hit. He was not understanding whatsoever about individual circumstance & does not clearly communicate his expectations or grading standards. He gave me 0's on assignments I put effort into without regard for the lack of explanation/course material on his behalf. Overall I do not recommend this professor!!!!!
Loved the subject matter of the class. However, prof Williams writes difficult quizzes/exams (lots of grammatical/spelling errors on top of confusing q's), is very picky with grading, and has very high expectations. He hands out 0s like nothing & doesn't give study guides/extra credit either so stay on top of it! Try to avoid taking him if you can!
Professor Williams is more of a comedian than a professor. During this pandemic, he would send out video lectures that were not helpful in the slightest bit. I had high expectations for this class but I now learned at the end of this class he fails his students mentally and academically.
Some people are good at a subject but just can't teach. He writes difficult quizzes with lots of spelling mistakes, and confusing questions, and has very high expectations (intro class did not feel like an intro class). history has always been my forte but this class was detrimental to my mental health. Please don't take this class.
I never new evolution was so intricate. I learned a lot and I know what learned. I am ready for primates social behavior at UCLA go bruins
Unclear lectures, lengthy unclear choice of words for lectures, insufficient time& ridiculous timeframes for some quizzes/assignments, does not work with you when reaching out for help (he refers back to "modules/assignments")
Puts a lot of time between modules, but makes assignments, quizzes, and exams due into a span of 4 days. Pretty nice as a person and will probably help you if you kiss up. assignment, quiz and exam questions are worded so complex for no reason. Sometimes it's difficult to understand what he's even asking.
He's literally so hard on grading but no one else taught the class so I had to take him. Take literally anyone else- you've been warned.
Professor Williams was a great professor. He was clear of his expectations of you from the start of the class and graded pretty fairly. Get ready to read the textbook from basically start to finish, as well as watch associated recorded lectures for each chapter. If you attend office hours he will answer any questions you have.
Here's the thing with prof Williams: He's hilarious. You can tell he loves anthro and his love for it is infectious. The class was very interesting and I enjoyed his lectures. But when it came to tests and HW, it was so difficult. I have a 3.8 GPA and this was the hardest class I took and I dropped it. Find another professor, he's not worth it
He's funny and passionate about the subject. Unfortunately, he has a massive superiority complex, and has the most disorganized canvas set up I have ever seen from a professor. He also makes a ton of grammatical errors, and isn't specific enough in assignment instructions for you to complete it properly. Don't take this class.
Very tough on grading. Quizzes and tests are up to comprehension of how you read the text at times, so even if you read the text you can fail. There's one essay type assignment, but grades it as if it were an English Major final that can actual lower bring a grade letter down. Superior complex, emphasizes his own geekness. Would never take again.
Professor Williams doesn't have the best reviews on here but I'll put it bluntly: he's not any different from how professors are at the university level and if you're looking for an easy A, look somewhere else. But if you genuinely put in the work and communicate any questions you have, you have no reason not to pass. Don't be discouraged!
I have read the reviews for professor Williams&have to give my 2 cents. You are held to a certain standard in college and Williams class is no exception. IF YOU DO NOT DO THE READING YOU WILL NOT PASS! He gives you everything you need to do the homework, but his wording can be confusing, email him, he will help you understand!!
This class left a bad taste in my mouth. Wish Id found rate my professor sooner. unorganized. If you have a life or a part time/full time job while full time student, dont bother with his class. Swears to have an English degree because he tears my work apart and goes on about MLA while my literature teacher praised me for my quality of work.
He is clearly passionate about anthropology, but he seriously needs to get a reality check. This is anthro 1, it should be taught as an introductory class but he teaches it like its an advanced class. Only take this class if your major is anthro. If your looking for credits, find ANYTHING ELSE
If you skip the readings you WILL NOT PASS. Heavy lectures (1hr 30 min) 2 or more videos along with lectures. Read the chapter that is assigned for the week. He pre-records his lectures (slideshows). 5/5 difficulty level. If you do not try, you will fail. If you do your readings and watch the lectures, youll be fine! Hes a challenge.
He is a very tough grader. He cares more about writing skills than the actual comprehension. This is intro to anthropology but he teaches it like he expects you to know everything.
He seems passionate about this subject; however, none of the notes he makes us take will not be on the midterm. He told us for our study guide that we should write our own even though every note I took was not on the midterm. I knew I was not going to pass, so I eventually made a withdrawal.
This class is confusing. So many different lectures, YouTube videos and chapters and the quizzes are so difficult for no reason. Just do not take this class. If he is the only professor, wait till the following semester.
This professor is overall okay. He is passionate so it's interesting to see him lecture; It is a tough class because he wants his students to fully understand the material despite being an intro class. Lectures are meaningless when it comes to assignments, be ready to read. He's hard on writing responses and will give 0 if suspected of not reading
There seems to be a lot of negative reviews here, but the fact of the matter is that this professor is passionate about his field and enjoys teaching anthropology. In order to pass, you do have to read and consistently turn in your homework. Tests are difficult, but in the end you do learn something if you put in the time and engage in the class
This professor demand you to read. High school is over and you can't just get byeby showing up. You have to commit yourself to the subject matter. Use office hours for support. He is very supportive at Providing a clear answer but only if you provide a clear questions. It was not the class but you can just sit there and zone out and expect to pass.
He is going to make sure you are prepared to transfer. All of these assignments have a direct purpose and a link to the student learning outcomes. And you're gonna know your subject at the intro level after taking a class with him. If you're not interested in learning then don't sign up for his class.
I love this class. The level of detail the professor provides makes the introduction to indigenous cultures so appealing. Some teachers keep it light not to scare off students professor Williams goes all in and keeps us engaged.Yeah there was a lot of complaining but what do you expect at a community college. If you are scared from learning stay home
Everyone complained that the professor was making the class too hard. But let's be real to some introductive science courses are challenging. A class is hard if you don't have the skills from high school to understand a new subject. The class was great I learned a lot about how evolution works. The facility of the super supportive in my learning.
The lectures were great and if you were paying attention you can see how they overlapped with our papers. If you're falling asleep or Scrolling on your phone you're not going to pass. I felt bad or professor Williams that he had to work so hard to get people interested in the class they signed up for.He did the best he could with the un motivated.
Can confirm that the majority of the low ratings are accurate. He is very nice in person but is entirely different when it comes to grading and email communication. Is EXTREMELY critical and will pass out 0s for completed work. His instructions are unclear and full of typos. Not fair for him to expect perfection when he cant give it himself.
Please save yourself the time and don't take his class. He's nice in person but he does not know how to properly guide you to succeed his course. My best advice that I can give you is to take this course with another professor.
Cool guy, cares about what he does, and wants you to be excited! This is comprehension/application, not memorization. If you walk in expecting to be able to cram, it won't work out. Don't procrastinate, really think about each writing, and READ the free textbook (its a great resource). This class is built for you to succeed, just return the effort.
This class was extremely difficult. He is knowledgeable & passionate BUT does not break things down to the introductory level. Tests have A LOT of typos. Made it difficult to figure out what is asked. He's not good at responding to messages. Only take this class from him if you are either an Anthropology major or passionate about Anthropology.
Very high energy, comical lectures. I would not recommend taking him online though. The only way his class functions is if you are in-person. I studied a bunch and still got a mediocre grade. This class is very hard, but if you love anthropology and human evolution you will absolutely love it.
Took this class for general education and struggled- It's a very difficult subject, boring, and had confusing test questions. You can take the quizzes multiple times but only the averages of all of them will be kept. His tests have difficult and confusing questions- very different from the quizzes. Limited hours to respond back to you.
Professor Williams is great guy. He is very nice in person but he isn't a good professor. This is supposed to be an INTRO to anthropology class yet he teaches it like an advanced class. He is extremely critical with grading and will give 0's even for completed work. Quizzes and tests have nothing to do with his lectures. Take another professor.
don't take this class. he is a nice guy but isn't a good professor at all. he doesn't reply to students and if he does he takes forever. he isn't willing to work things out with students even if you are absent etc. the content in the quizzes and tests doesn't relate to any of his lectures which is a waste of time. just take another professor.
williams is a really good teacher when it comes to lecture however when it comes to grading he is so strict that even getting a D is impossible. I did multiple of his assignments that were assigned and i thought i did good i even went to WRC and they tutor said it was good. he gave me all f's on all my work and said it needed more. DO NOT TAKE HIM.
Everybody is right; he's pretty cool but the class was super hard. You're really teaching yourself and some of the homework and essays just didn't make sense. I really wish I went on here before taking his class and now I got a F on my transcript. Yeah, I don't recommend taking his class AT ALL. Find someone else.
Super high energy, but teaches nothing important. Grades essays are as harsh as an English teacher, and expect to write about 800 words every other week. Even when you think you are on his good side, he screws you over. Got an 89.6 and he refused to round it up. If he's reading this, face the music. Your class is a GE, stop teaching so strictly.
When it came to the first writing assignment I had emailed him a couple times just to let him know I was having trouble accessing the textbook and assignment. He emailed me very rudely and abruptly saying he knows what type of student I am lectured me on self sabotage? After that I checked his reviews and was not surprised.
I hope y'all aren't too discouraged by the reviews This is one of the most informational professors I have had. Not just in his mastery of the material but how he shows up as a human. I think folks were used to covid classes. Typical course i promise
I love the way he teaches. He makes everything make sense and he made the material really interesting and enjoyable. I will look forward to taking more classes from him in the future!
I wouldn't recommend Professor Kewku at all!!!!!!! For one he jokes too much during his lectures, and he grades harshly!!!!!!
Lectures made no sense!!! He is a nice guy don't get me wrong but I wouldn't recommend his class. He would tell us topics to study that would be on the quizzes and when it came time for the quizzes it had nothing that he would say would be on it. He also says his homework serves to balance out if you do poorly on quizzes which was a lie.
I took this professor for this semester and was probably one of the most strict teachers I had. He would assign papers that wouldn't make sense on the things that he wanted and would fail you. He is a very harsh grader and be ready to talk about some very intense topics that may not be that suitable for some people. Dont take him!
If you want an easy teacher, I wouldn't say he is one BUT if you want a good teacher who genuinely cares about what he is teaching then I would choose Mr.Williams. He puts a lot of enthusiasm into his lecture videos and he makes you want to learn! He is a very tough grader though, especially on papers.
Although there are a multitude of mixed reviews, if you actually want to learn definitely take him. He is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about the subject and truly does want you to succeed. I recommend seeking him out in office hours--he is available about 4 times a week. Besides that, he makes every lecture fun and participative.
Professor Williams is a really great guy. I enjoyed listening to his lectures and having discussions during office hours, but the biggest issue was his class is structured out of very few points altogether. And that's with extra credit included. Be cautious that there is absolutely NO room for error when it comes to the Mid-Term/Final and quizzes.
Do not be fooled! Although he is very compelling while lecturing he is the most critical and dense person you'll ever have to deal with. He was very rude and will rarely work with you to better your grade. Save yourself now and just chose another instructor. On a side note, he needs to stop leaving 5 star reviews for himself on here.
While the material in this class is quite complex, Professor Kweku gave very elaborate explanations in his video & in-person lectures. He made every lecture fun and engaging. If you don't do the assigned readings, you'll be very lost during the writing assignments. Overall, this class was for sure a challenge, but I had a pleasant experience.
Great professor! He does not tolerate slacking off at all. In order to do well in the class you should really try to understand the readings. If something is unclear, ask! YouTube helps too! There are no shortcuts. Highly difficult class, but very rewarding if you care about learning something. Don't take the class if you want easy!
The tests are all critical thinking and almost set up in a way for you to fail. Many words are switched and not in the lectures or textbooks and needed to be researched to confirm how it related to the questions. The test times end in the beginning of the day making it feel rushed. If you have an option for another science choose the other option.
He is aware of the low grades students receive in this class, yet dismisses it saying it can be made up through homework and other quizzes, which is almost impossible. His quizzes do not correspond with what he recommends on studying in preparation, nor what he covers in class. Really passionate with his lectures though.
He bases his quizes and exams mostly on the textbook when he mentioned one time that he would give you key notes to help memorize for the exam.
very difficult
Please. I beg anyone who reads this do not take this man, I like the guy but if you value your mental health or grade you should RUN, I got stuck with him because the professor I was supposed to take the class with dropped the section, worst day of my life.
If you end up taking him for Anthro 1. I'm sorry 2. If you want to pass or do well, the lectures are just not helpful, nothing he talks about is ever on quizzes, despite the fact that we had to take a bunch of notes, you would be better off reading the textbook and taking notes off of that start the paper early and don't waste time on the lectures
Fun lecturer but they're honestly pretty useless in terms of your actual grade, my advice would be to go to his office hours often, read the book, and pray for good luck
I've now taken two of his classes and he remains my favorite professor EVER. He is gracious on his deadlines, as long as you are putting in the effort. Tough grader, but he allows you to resubmit most of the writing assignments! He provides the textbook for free! AND he is SO engaging! I can't rave enough about what a fantastic professor he is.
This was by far the worst professor I have ever had. You can do all the right things and still do bad. I dropped out of his class as a result of his impossible class. He makes you and the class close your eyes and he asks if anyone is religious or not; which I thought was weird because I've never had a professor do that before at any grade level.
Truthfully, he is a very hard grader and there is A LOT of reading. He is a very nice person and is very engaging in his lectures though I found his grading criteria pretty confusing. If you're lazy and just trying to get credits, don't take this class; if you're genuinely interested in archeology as a career, I would recommend taking it.
Respectfully, this professor doesn't have an inch of leniency. In comparison to other courses, I truly don't understand his need to have zero mercy for any late work, which then hinders you from passing. No extra credit to makeup! Unless you have a "medical, judicial, or military" reason to turn in an assignment late, youre screwed
Professor Kweku is a great professor and amazing individual. He IS a tough grader; all you have to do is ask for his feedback and what you can improve upon. The majority of these negative reviews are by people who, frankly, not cut out for the rigor of classes and anything beyond a high school level 1 math class.
Save urself the headache and crying yourself to sleep and dont take this class or drop it while you can. Unless ur obsessed with anthropology and enjoy suffering thats up to u. No study guides, not helpful at all. unless ur obsessed with anthropology or love suffering DO NOT TAKE with him find another professor you will struggle.
Average Kweku lecture: --"Write this down because this is how you will ace the exam: 'Gorillas have the smallest p***s to body size ratio of any primate.'" --"Lisan Al-Gaib!" --"I don't want things to get too dark here, but..." [most morbid thing you've heard all month] --"This is how you become a Jedi Master" [identifying bones] 10/10 professor
Don't take this professor. Extremely stressful class, extremely difficult tests and quizzes, and there is a very small margin for error. While his lectures were interesting almost none of that information was on any of the quizzes. If you care about your mental health do not take this class.
Cool and interesting but very difficult and stressful. The questions are all critical thinking and they just dont make sense why the answer was the correct answer. He thinks of the questions himself but they dont make sense and even if you understand, it will be the wrong answer. You will be tired and frustrated and nervous the entire semester.
A lot of lectures & textbook reading, but most of it felt unnecessary. EVERYTHING is just multiple-choice canvas quizzes & a few ungraded discussion boards. It's not the worst class to take for credit. I took it because I hate life sciences and wanted something to get the requirement over with, and it was fine for that.
Im still enrolled in this class, but wow... I did see the rate the professor score before and honestly I thought people were being dramatic, however I am now seeing that they were not exaggerating. He tells his students not to expect to get an A or a B in his class and almost takes pride in it. You are not the exception (dont take this class!)
No joke, I wish I would have looked here before taking this class. I have done the reading, watched the lectures, downloaded the lecture screens- somehow I still am not passing. The downloaded lectures do not even follow along with what he is lecturing on. I am at a complete loss of words. PICK ANOTHER PROFESSOR!
PLEASE, only take his class online, do not do it in person. His lectures are genuinely pointless. You'll be fine if you're tech savvy, iykyk. He writes all the test/quiz questions himself, doesn't even proofread them, and they are pretty much unrelated to the lecture & textbook content. I only got an A out of pure luck & some deep thinking lmao
I don't think this class should be this hard, being that it's an intro to a subject and usually taken to satisfy a general education requirement. BUT, it is NOT impossible. The most popular misconception is that his lectures and the textbook do not pertain to the quizzes and or exam. It is, he writes them himself, but requires critical thinking.
The professor isn't bad but don't take him if you're not willing to learn more beyond than what he teaches. This isn't a class you can just take to get your credits in, you'd have to have some interest to be able to enjoy it.
Bad academically, extremely pretentious, and expects far too much for a gen-ed with zero leniency. Grading is harsh and inflexible.
all the reviews of this guy are being way to light, DONT TAKE THIS CLASS UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES, Kweku is the least understanding, and most pretentious professor i've ever seen. None of the lectures matter(yet attendance is mandatory), and everything you need to learn has to come on your own. If this is the only teacher you can take, WAIT!
