Brother Black is an AMAZING teacher! I would recommend him to anyone. He made the teachings of the Book of Mormon so clear, interesting, and understandable. I've learned more from the BOM in his class than I have in any of my other seminary, institute, or sunday school lessons combined! The spirit is so strong when he teaches. TAKE BROTHER BLACK!!!

He is the nicest person you will find for a teacher. His tests are a lot of work but not worth much. You do learn at lot from them though. He's very caring of each of his students and wants each of you to understand anything and everything re: the BOM and/or the LDS religion. Quite the funny guy - which adds so much to the class!!!

Amazing! Awesome teacher. Focuses on the spirit and the Book of Mormon and not Busy work. You do need to journal your reading. There is an occasional test that you can use the Book Of Mormon. Take Bro. Black. You won't regret it! At first he gives a speech about not cheating. It's pretty intense. Don't be scared.

Leviticus has to be the most boring book of scripture ever -But Bro Black made it so COOL! There was alot that I didn't understand before his class but now I have gained so much! He teaches with the spirit. Hilarious in one second and reverent the next. If you want to strengthen your testimony and gain a ton of knowledge I would recommend him!

Excellent teacher. Before the class I thought I knew quite a bit about the BofM, but Bro. Blacks lessons taught me something new every class period. He is very good at inviting the spirit into his lessons and teaching with clarity.

He is pretty cool goofy and funny.I mean the first of the two test is ridiculous, but before and between that it's fine-easy.Yes, you have to go to class, do easy journal entries every class period, and 1 easy doctrine.I don't feel they are busy work. You grade yourself.I loved the class. Got so much from it and felt the Spirit every class period.

I really liked Brother Black. He taught me a lot about the Book of Mormon and he teaches by the spirit. He teaches in a fun way that engages the students and helps you to really understand the true priciples of the gospel.

If you know and understand the doctrine you will catch the contradictory ideas presented. Which can be fun and entertaining. He is an extremist. Overal a decent teacher, who knows the doctrine, just teachs it differently so it comes in the wrong way.

Just too much for me. Self Centered. Loud, ARROGANT! tries to force spiritual experiences on the class. I tried to have an open mind, but ended up looking at the clock. Nice guy, but with all the great religion teachers on campus, DON'T settle for this one.

Probably my favorite teacher on campus, he gives the best lessons on the Atonement I've ever heard, and having been a member my whole life, I've heard my fair share. He is really goofy and makes class a lot of fun. You can tell he has a strong testimony and you can't help but feel the spirit in his class.

One of the best religion teachers I have ever had. He knows what he's talking about, the feeling the Spirit is constant if you are attentive. He shares his love of the gospel often. The workload is not intense. He is really funny and keeps you interested.

The only assignments are reading, class attendance, and one paper on a gospel topic of your choice for the midterm. You keep track of your own grades, but he really guilt trips you to make sure you don't lie about your grade, so be honest! Very easy class, and will definitely help you feel the spirit more in your life. Amazing and funny teacher.

He keeps it basic enough that he doesn't go into false/made up doctrine but goes in depth with the basics to make it so you learn new things. Great teacher! (Class goes 5 mins over sometimes so if that bugs you, you might wanna take it from someone else)

He is the best teacher I have ever had while I have been here on campus at BYU?Idaho. I love how he teaches. He really knows his stuff and he presents it in a way that makes sense to everyone. I would highly recommend him if you ever have the opportunity to take a class from him.

Overall good teacher. He gets pretty intense at times and don't even think about cheating. He will give you the guilt trip everyday, about that and other things. Just keep up on reading/journaling and you have an A. No tests for my class, just one essay about a topic of your choice. Take time to do it right and you're set. I learned a lot.

I LOVED this teacher! His class has been my favorite of all the religion classes I've taken. He required the work to actually be done, but he trusts his students, and doesn't require any text but the scriptures. He taught well and could bring the spirit into the class as well as make us laugh.

He is awesome! He makes you want to pay attention and participate. I rarely participate. The homework is not hard. You need to make sure you do it though. He makes his rules very clear and what he expects. I have him for 2 hours and only once a week, and I wish I could have him everyday.

Bottom Line..THIS TEACHER IS INCREDIBLE. Teaches with the Spirit, changes LIVES! I learned so much. Probably the best class.. EVER. Seriously though, you will have your mind blown and testimony BUILT.

I have also taken BOM 121 from him. He is the BEST religion teacher at BYUI. He teaches NOTHING but the DOCTRINE. This causes some students to get offended because they disagree with the doctrine, but that's their problem. Extremely knowledgeable, makes everything very clear. No quizzes/tests, but I learn the most out of his classes than any other.

Bro. Black is the man! All you need to do is read about 3 chapters before every class, write in your personal journal, and go to class and thats the entire grade. He is really passionate about what he teaches so he keeps his class interesting. I dont think i have ever seen someone sleep in it

Also you are responsible for keeping track of your grade.

I really appreciate his goal to help students understand how to study scripture (motives of the author, circumstances of writing, how it's applicable to us today). There were a couple of occasions where he presented his opinion without a clear disclaimer that his opinion didn't represent doctrine.

He has dug deep into the doctrine, and made me consider different ways of thinking about the scriptures and living life.workload easy, only have to read sections.Really down to earth and really cares about what God wants us to get out of the scriptures.MUST TAKE for at least one semester!Recommend for Old Testament.

I LOVE THIS CLASS! Best teacher I have ever had and I have had some incredible teachers in the past. I love how he brings the spirit into each and every lesson, he is enthusiastic about what he teaches, and I know that he loves the gospel and our Savior Jesus Christ. He is very pro-family and would never encourage the dividing of a family.

This is by far my favorite religion class I have ever taken! He understands the scriptures so well and helps you to think of them in a different and deeper way. He is all for marriage and family. He is great at bringing the spirit everyday in class. He clear understanding of the atonement and teaches us how to apply it effectively in our lives.

I haven't felt the need to rate a professor but i feel that Brother Black deserves it!I have been facing some challenges with getting married,the respect with which he talks about his wife truly shows he believes in marriage!Its really affirmed my belief you can work through problems in marriage consulting the Lord.He believes what he teaches 100%.

Brother Black is always very intense but always very interesting. I have learned many, many things about the Book of Mormon and have never received anything from him that was unfounded in the words of the prophets; if he is stating his opinion then he clearly qualifies it as his opinion, and I always, always enjoy the insights I gain in his class.

He has a deep understanding of the scriptures & gospel, which he makes come alive and easy to learn so much. He backs everything up with facts & if he does not know the answer he will tell you. Besides reading, the only assignment he gives is a biography paper (5 pages-ish, double spaced) on a Christian History figure around midterm time. His lectures are very engaging and interesting. He hates grading, you grade yourself basically. Go for it!

This class is so easy, all you have to do is show up! You learn so much in this class. If you keep up with everything (which is super simple) You will get an A+

Brother Black has this crazy concept of expecting students to act like adults and take care of themselves. If you're looking for someone to hold your hand and remind you constantly of rules then go to a class where the teacher is ok babysitting. His classes are great for mature students who can do the assigned reading and show up ready to learn.

He will not take it away but he will kick you out for the semester and give you a 0%. 2) You grade yourself on your journal entries, how much you read, participation, and attendance BUT that does not mean you get to cheat and mark a 100% for everything. You will love any class with Bro Black!

He's a really funny man. Not much homework. Read the scriptures, the occasional talks, write in your journal. Attendance does matter. He's always willing to take questions during class. He bears testimony at least once during the class period. Keep track of all your homework, cause he won't. You turn in it at the end of the semester.

Brother Black's class is an easy A. You grade yourself and its all just reading and participation. His class didn't always spike my interest but he has blown my mind more than once. He is SMART. If you enjoy deep doctrine (and even if you don't) Brother Black definitely has some incredible insight. He has a way of inviting the spirit in the room.

Brother Black is amazing. I never want to take any other religion teacher if I can help it. He is a powerful teacher and has a great sense of humor. However, he has a very strict cell phone policy, so watch out for that.

Also, a SUPER easy A if you read and write in your journal. He keeps track of nothing. I just don't like how slowly we move in class lectures.

Kyle Black is awesome. His class is solely "grade yourself" but makes it clear that if you cheat and are caught, the consequences won't be good. Black is not boring or annoying at all. His lectures are interesting and beneficial. Don't ever use your phone. EVER. You will fail. He is by far the best religion teacher I have ever had.

Kyle taught us to think outside the box on certain things. He's a really cool guy in and out of the classroom, but don't expect him to let you off easy on things.

And he backs up EVERYTHING he says with the scriptures, or a quote from the prophets. He sometimes gives opinions, but he tells you when it's his opinion. Good and interesting class, overall. He has great understanding of the scriptures. Main beef with him is that he comes across as arrogant at times, which is a big turnoff for me, personally. Does always answer your questions though, which is good.

Brother Black is awesome! He knows so much, and he is an extremely talented speaker. He always talks about how much he loves his wife and kids, which brings a sweet, celestial spirit to the class. Be humble and Christlike in order to learn from him, because he makes a lot of absolute statements that you will feel tempted to contest.

Everything is true. ONLY grades on reading, attendance and participation. Although you grade yourself, he makes it very clear what you should dock yourself for. I had the roughest semester ever and was late on quite a few readings which hurt my grade a ton, but he will work with you if you talk to him! He's so sweet and wants you to do well!

You can only miss 5 times. He uses the honor code with grading so you keep track of everything. No tests, no quizzes, no real homework besides reading and journal and class participation.

Every single class I felt like my mind was blown, and I loved learning so much! Beware however: he is SUPER strict about his rule that there are no phones. Also, all grading is done by yourself--be honest.

First things first, Br. Black is hands down THE absolute BEST teacher I have ever had at BYU-I. I find myself on the edge of my seat wanting more by the end of every class. I've never learned so much and felt like I can relate and understand a teacher more. I plan to take ALL my future religious classes (that I can) from him!!

Brother Black's class is extremely easy. You keep track of your own score, but be honest or else he will fail you. If you have a phone out You. Will. Fail. He will call you out on having a phone out BEFORE class even starts. If you can't keep your phone put away, he might not be the best teacher for you.

Br. Black is an amazing religion teacher. The spirit is in every lesson. Show up to class, do the reading and keep a journal of what you read and you will get an easy A.

By far the best religion teacher I have EVER had. Teaches the doctrine and doesn't beat around the bush. If you can't handle the truth or get offended easily don't take the class! It's refreshing to hear someone teach solid doctrine boldly.

EVERYONE CONSIDERING BR. BLACK READ THIS. Let me preface by stating, this is the 6th class I have taken from him. He is the most remarkable professor this campus has. He is hilarious and sarcastic, yet sincere (I love that about him). Do NOT make the mistake of thinking he is self-centered. He deals with TRUTH and is as bold as a lion. TAKE HIM!!!!

Brother Black is an amazing religion Teacher. I have never been More interested in Little things that I have with him. Be prepared if you are on your phone or playing on your device he will kick you out and you will Fail! But with how interesting his class it is hard not to pay attention, and it is the easiest religion homework ever.

Brother Black is amazing!! I took him 5 different times. He knows so much about the gospel! You keep track of your grade/reading/participation/attendance. Take him!!!

OH MY GOSH I have never loved anyone so much. He helped cover a lot of questions that have bothered me since high school and he is very good with answering questions with quotes from the prophets, very good with using ALL scriptures which I LOVED!! He only teaches doctrine and I loved it so much. If you were thinking about him, DO IT!!

Brother Black is my hero. If you want to learn something about scriptures and the Gospel, he is your man. He teaches in a very simple, easy to understand way. He is super great with questions. He cares more about students questions then reaching a certain point in the class. He follows the spirit everyday and inspires me to be a better person.

Bro Black is great. His class is very similar to seminary. If you read and participate you'll get an A in the class. He's very spiritual and experienced in teaching religion. If you want an easy and spiritual religion class, take Bro Black.

Brother Black may come off a bit harsh as he sets terms for his classroom, but I have rarely met anyone who cared more to teach the pure doctrine plainly to everyone's understanding, without regard to whether it may be "politically correct" or socially acceptable. He's a good and honest man who puts his heart into his work. I recommend his class.

This is the best professor I've ever had! I was recommended to this professor and this is my favorite class by far. He knows about the gospel and what he teaches better than any manual and he'll teach you more, too. There is not a lot of homework and the spirit he brings is so enlightening. I've had so many spiritual experiences.

I am so grateful for Brother Black. He is a wonderful teacher that absolutely knows his stuff. He doesn't take things too far into his own perspective, he teaches from the book. The spirit is always present as he is expressing his love for this church. I have learned so much and love how receptive he is to questions of students. Take his class!!

Bro Black is an amazing teacher. I've taken three different classes from him, and have learned so much. He always teaches out of the scriptures and teaches the doctrines. He is an awesome teacher and super funny. I always feel the spirit in his class and feel the love he has for the gospel and for the Savior Jesus Christ. I highly recommend him!

Brother Black was one of the most amazing professors I have had. His ability to explain gospel principles in ways that I understood was amazing. The spirit was always present in his class and I always left mind blown! The only homework you have is to read your scriptures and write in your journal.

He is an awesome professor. I have gotten so much out of his lectures and I feel like like I actually learned in his class. He is hilarious and keeps your attention during lectures. Don't use your phone in class though because he will fail you on the spot!

I loved Brother Black! I can honestly say I learned something new every day I attended his class. As long as you read and participate you'll get an A. He lovingly teases and jokes around with the students, so if you are one who can't take a joke I wouldn't recommend him for you.

Fantastic and funny, his classes fill up first of all the religion teachers especially this one. It has the best textbook I've ever read (Christian History) in college. WARNING: He is very conservative... if you are a hippy who wants to talk about liberalism and wear flip flops to class you are gonna hate it. He's an awesome teacher, I love him.

Brother Black has an incredible talent for teaching with the spirit, and a substantial knowledge of the scriptures and church doctrine. He cares deeply about his students and the church, and his love for the scriptures played a big part in developing my own love for them. He is an amazing teacher who I admire greatly and would recommend to anyone.

Brother Black is a great teacher! His classes are easy and very enjoyable. If you come to class prepared, you will learn so much! Brother Black teaches clear, correct doctrine and invites the Spirit into class every day. He was kind if I ever had any questions or concerns, and he is super funny! Hes a very knowledgable professor. He takes the time to explain the history and meaning behind the parables before delving into them which helps you make sense of normally confusing scripture. The way that he sets up his class is very simple, if you read journal and show up you will get an A. He really cares for his students in & out of class.

Great teacher. He is passionate about what he teaches and has strong opinions. He really loves the gospel and the church.

He has a harsh kind of humor, but it's only really mean if you don't understand the strong sarcasm. He is blunt, but I don't feel like he judges me when I disagree with him. This is my favorite class this term and I come out every single time feeling uplifted. He adores his family and has a very strong testimony. Will definitely take him again!

Brother Black, knows the scriptures better than anyone that I know. He not only teaches, but teaches with promptings of the spirit as well. He will help you build your testimony so when you leave his class you'rechichil are spiritually equipped.

Brother Black's Book of Mormon class was literally the best and most inspirational class I have taken. He lectures a lot, but if you pay attention you will learn so much. There's lots of reading but its mostly from the BOM. You grade yourself and keep track of your own attendance. He's a cool dude.

There are a lot of mixed reviews about Brother Black, but the main thing you need to note is that he teaches using the words of the Prophets, and the words of the scriptures. He will share his own opinion, but he makes sure to let each and every student know it is his opinion first, and not the doctrine of the church. Take him to support you faith.

Brother Black is the best professor that I have taken!! He really knows his stuff. He is super funny and caring. All you have to do for his class is the reading, journaling and attending the class. I have taken him for 4 classes and I would gladly take him again. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

He teaches the truth (no sugar coating) if you are a millennial or Gen Z who believes in rainbow sexuality and the notion all mankind will be saved through Christ just by believing on his name because he atoned for sin, some fundamental doctrinal knowledge is lacking, disappointment may be a takeaway. If you want to learn the truth then take him.

If you need a religion class Brother Black is the guy to take it from. It has been my favorite class out of all my college course. He is funny, keeps you engaged, and infuses a desire to lean more doctrinal truths. Definitely one of the best professors Ive had!!

I don't know why people hate him. They say he is judgemental and only teaches by his opinion. I feel like he his the opposite. He clearly tells many times that he teaches doctrine and not what the world thinks, and I believe him. He is amazing and only teaches truth. He has us grade ourselves and use the honor system. He is really funny too.

Brother Black is INCREDIBLE. I had a terrible religion professor last semester, and he is such an improvement! He is bold and clear on the doctrine, and is passionate about the gospel of Jesus Christ. He loves the Savior and it comes out in everything he teaches. Very clear criteria on how to pass his class. I would take him again in a heartbeat!

Bro. Black's only assignment in his class is to do reading, journal it (so you can share in class), show up to class, and participate. I think this is the best set up for any religious class I have ever taken. I would highly recommend taking a class from him. If you are willing to do the reading then you will have a wonderful experience.

attendance and prep work reading is required, but he doesnt give any tests, projects or additional homework. Just requires that you show up prepared. he is very knowledgeable and passionate about the gospel and a great teacher. I have taken 3 religion courses from him so far and will probably continue to do so.

This is the best teacher on campus, if you ask my opinion. All of my most spiritual experiences here have happened during or after his class because the spirit is so strong. We only read the scriptures as class preparation, just go to class and you won't regret it. I want to take all of his classes! All of my siblings have taken/take him too.

Class was great. Half your grade is reading the scriptures he gives you and the other half is just showing up to class and participating. Would recommend if you have a busy schedule and don't want a religion class with lots of papers/ assignments. The only grades in class are reading, journaling, showing up and participating. It's easy.

On day 1 you're told: 1) The only homework for this class is reading/journaling/attending (easy). 2) You grade yourself, don't lie. 3) No cell phones allowed. If caught using one, you'll be given an "F" class grade. He's not joking. Follow rules for easy A, those who are easily offended shouldn't take as he does not put up with bull/is very cynical

This was the best religion course I have ever taken. He was very honest and open with us and could be because of the topic. I enjoyed every class.

I'm going to stick up for him. He teaches what the scriptures and prophets say. Are all of the doctrines taught in the scriptures well liked? Jesus didn't teach popular doctrines, but it doesn't mean they aren't true. I loved Bro. Black and he has helped me grow in my testimony of Christ. If you struggle, talk with him, he is actually very kind.

Brother Black saved my enthusiasm for having religion classes, I didn't like my last course and he got me to love that class. Meaningful teachings, pure doctrine discussions, he knows the gospel and the scriptures so well. I'm taking the risk, but if you don't have the spirit or you are feeling humble to change you will not like this class.

This has been one of my favorite religion classes! I love the way the class is set up because you get what you put in. The prep work was simple but so beneficial for the class because it really applied. This class is very much participation and discussion based which I love. I will definitely be taking another class from him in the future. :)

Undoubtedly the best religion teacher on campus. I already signed up to take New Testament with him next semester. His lectures are based on the doctrine of Christ and not other tangents! He is the only religion teacher at BYU-I that has inspired me to be a better person. He is basically a modern-day professor like Hugh Nibley or Truman G. Madsen.

I had Brother Black my first semester here and I can honestly say that his class was my absolute favorite. Coming to his class always made my day- hes dry and funny, but hes also firm in testifying truth and teaching with the Spirit. He doesnt mince words but his character and love for the gospel is genuine. The workload was really light too.

I enjoyed Brother Black's class! Christian history was so interesting because of Brother Black. It was wonderful to see how Chrisitan History leads to the restoration of the church, and Borther Black makes that extremely clear. Brother Black is very clear in his teaching of history and the gospel. For sure would take a class from him again!

Bro. Black has a strong course and lots of knowledge to share. He can be very blunt with somethings, but he only teaches doctoring that can be supported. I really enjoyed the class, and it wasnt terrible with work. Just dont wait until the last minute to do it. I really enjoyed the class.

If you want to grow your testimony, learn doctrine, and not be bogged down by HW from a religion class then Brother Black is a great choice. My experience was he taught directly from the scriptures and words of modern prophets. He made some blunt statements, but if you keep listening he explains, he cares, and he understands real life can be messy.

Bro Black is highly respectful to every demographic spoken of in class & of each individual. I have never heard him be demeaning to any other religion or social group in a class discussion. He is honest & direct about the doctrines of the Church's faith. If you ask questions when something is unclear he provides many solid sources beyond average.

Loved going to his class every day was a super great learning experience and I throughly enjoyed and still am enjoying to class! I have never been able to understand the New Testament this well before and now it is all crystal clear!

I love Brother Black. For me, he has been my favorite religion teacher I've ever had. He does an amazing job at helping me understand and interpret the scriptures. He focuses on scripture reading and not pointless essays and other assignments. My testimony has definitely grown because of his class.

Brother Black Is a great teacher who cares deeply about the material. All the Doctrine he teaches is based directly off scriptures, Prophets, and Apostles that he quotes directly. At times he may embellish with personal experience BUT, always differentiates between personal opinion and doctrine. He has a great way of inviting the spirit into class.

Brother Black is my favorite Religion teacher so far! He's clear in teaching true doctrine and he does everything he can to have the spirit in class! All you have to do for homework is reading and journaling. I would take another class from him in a heartbeat! He's very knowledgeable and respects his students. He's funny and very enthusiastic.

Some students don't like what Bro Black teaches because he's very blunt. Truthfully, they're just offended by the word of God. I've read some reviews here that say he teaches opinions, but that's totally false. If he gives an opinion he will say it's his opinion. If he teaches it, he has every resource, especially from scripture, to back it up.

Brother Black is the best Professor I have had Attending BYU-I. He knows the Gospel inside and out and will not back down on the things that he knows. If he doesn't know the answer to a question he will tell you that he doesn't know. The lectures are incredibly well done and keep your attention. I have learned more from brother black than anyone.

Bro. Black uses all the books of scripture & what latter-day prophets have said to make the doctrine clear. He doesn't tell us what he *thinks* it means. He has us read from the source and see what it actually says. He has so much integrity and humility and really knows his stuff!! I've taken 3 classes from him bc I have grown so much in his class!

Brother Kyle Black is an amazing professor. He is very clear when he speaking of doctrine or personal belief. I have felt the spirit in every one of his classes.

Man, this teacher is a strict grader, but her is very kind and helpful. He inspires you and helps you reach your potential.

He's a good teacher. He's simple with how he grades. Attendance, reading, journal, participation, and that's it. We keep track of our own grades and hand them in at the end of the semester. An easy A as long as you do the work. Of all religion classes, this reading set wasn't bad at all - nice and light compared to some professors

As far as religion teachers go, he's good. The only dumb rule he has is we can't use our phones for the scriptures but we can use our laptops. He thinks all phones are bad and everyone younger than him is addicted. I guess he doesn't realize that everything you can access on your phone you can access on your laptop these days, including texting.

Brother Black is amazing. He expresses doctrine as it is, so if you get offended by blunt doctrine, you should pass. If you want to feel the Spirit and learn more about the Gospel, he is your teacher! Also, he hates busy work, so the class is only reliant on readings, journal, attendance, and one main project. I want to take all of his classes.

Brother Black is easily my favorite religion teacher on campus. He's so passionate about the gospel and works hard to help everyone in his classes understand the material and feel the Spirit. The assignments he gives are there to give us opportunities to share our thoughts in class about the topics. They're not hard at all. His lectures inspire!

My fav REL teacher. He's very relatable. If you're the kind of person who doesn't have a firm testimony of the gospel or supports views of the world, he might be hard for you because he supports God's doctrine and the Prophets words with everything he has. Classes were always doctrine based vs opinion based which to me, is critical for a RELteacher

Brother Black is a great teacher. He teaches the doctrine super simply and I really enjoyed his class. He is very respectful of all people and their perspectives. He desires to teach the truth and does not follow the trends of the world. He does not shy away from conversations that may seem controversial. Great Teacher!

Class is based off reading talks and writing journals about reading. You are also graded off participation in class and attendance. This is all done by you NOT Br. Black. I took his eternal marriage class and it was the best class I've taken so far! I came back from class each day loving my wife even more! I highly suggest taking this class.

I would definitely recommend taking Him especially for Building an eternal marriage. He focuses on Christ-centered principles and the potential each of us has to be like God. He has inspired me to become a better husband. Also has given my wife and me hope that we can be good parents.

Brother Black believes in doctrine 100% and has a very strong testimony. He has a really strong personality and can be intense at times. So if you are struggling with doubts or are sensitive I would not recommend him; because he might offend you. I thought he was a really great teacher and expanded my knowledge of the New Testament! Easy A!!

The first half of the semester was really hard for me to adjust to him. It's NOT a conversation type of class. He is the teacher and he knows that and I was scared to share my thoughts haha. BUT the things I learned from him about polygamy and blacks and the priesthood was something I couldn't have learned anywhere else. Lots of students loved him.

I took Brother Black's "Building an Eternal Marriage" Class. Every married couple should take it! He is one of the best professors I've had. It is obvious that he puts a lot of effort into his lectures and they are so inspirational. He engages the whole class, he is entertaining and spiritual. And I love that he really sticks to the doctrine.

A friend told me to take a class from Bro. Black and I am so glad that I took his Foundations of the Restoration class. It was INCREDIBLE! Bro. Black is an amazing teacher and knows so much about the gospel and brings new understanding to those willing to listen. He is one of my favorite teachers here on campus. His style is different, but so good!

Brother Black has changed my life. This class is the best I have ever taken. Ever. I feel the spirit so strongly every day. I have learned so much. His lectures make everything so clear. I am so grateful that I took this class. I am so much closer to God then I ever have been. All you have to do is read, journal, and show up to class. No stress.

Brother Black is absolutely hilarious and at the same time is spiritual and inspirational. He doesn't use canvas or make us write any papers "because Jesus never made his apostles write Him papers to be true disciples", and we just self-grade our attendance and readings. We only have a few talks we're asked to take notes on (that we don't turn in).

Anyone who says Brother Black is a bad teacher is probably lame. Lol he knows his stuff and hes pretty blunt but its because he really loves the gospel and believes in it 100% Not everyone's cup of tea personality wise but hes a funny guy and an easy professor. I always got something good out of class.

I had him for Building an Eternal Marriage! It is only for married students which is super important because most of what was said is only applicable to married couples! This class really helped me have a better outlook on my own marriage. My only regret is not making my spouse taking it with me! Bro Black is a great and funny teacher!

I am about to be a senior at BYUI and not ONCE have I written a report for one of my previous professors. He seems intimidating at first by how his syllabus is written out and how blunt he is. However, if you're not a snowflake, you'll enjoy his class thoroughly. Just read your scriptures, journal, and attend class, and you'll be fine.

Brother Black is an awesome religion teacher. He knows his stuff extremely well, and his lectures are POWERFUL. Really funny too. I learned so much from his class. But he will fail you automatically for using your phone even for scriptures, and you pretty much grade yourself based on attendance and home study/journaling.

I personally loved Bro Black!! His testimony is powerful and I gained so much insight! He "doesn't ask you to do anything the church doesn't ask you to do." In other words, he asks you to show up, participate, read scriptures, and journal. I would love to take another class from him again! Hands down, best religion class I have ever taken!

I respected that Bro. Black didn't allow for phones in his class. Keep it in your bag; easy. Do not be intimidated by the first class or the syllabus. Don't use your phone and do the reading, and you'll love this class. Lectures overwhelmed me with the spirit at times, and I felt so loved. One of my favorite religion classes at BYUI.

Brother Black can be super intimidating at first but he is a great teacher. He can be very blunt. You always know exactly where you stand with him. His guidelines about what he expects from you are clear. He is very passionate about what he teaches and it shows. There are no tests, essays, or group assignments.

You either love him or you hate him. There's really no inbetween. If you take his class and don't like him, just drop it bc it won't get any better for you. On the other hand if you can deal with no phones and do the reading you'll be fine. Important to remember he has very strong opinions and is critical of ideas that do not conform to the gospel.

The spirit is so strong in his class and it's SO EASY. There are only readings to do before class, no essays or projects or anything. He can be very blunt and feels really strongly about things that don't conform to gospel. He's funny and I enjoy the class. Don't be overwhelmed by the first day of class.

Kyle Black is an amazing but strict teacher but it clearly pays off to take his class. He doesn't let anyone on their phones or he will kick them out of class and give them an F. And if you think that's a bad thing think again. He commands the attention of the classroom getting full participation and bringing the spirit. I learned so much from him.

Bro Black is probably my favorite teacher I have had so far. He knows so much about what he teaches and I learned SO MUCH! He does say some questionable things sometimes but just ignore those lol. I thought he was great and I'm taking him again in the fall!

I loved Brother Black's class! I was a little hesitant about taking his class because of the No phones rule. If he saw your phone he would give you a failing grade, but it's not too big of a deal, and it was kind of nice not having the distraction of a phone. His lectures were very entertaining and so fun, would highly recommend!

I took D&C the second half with Brother Black, and I absolutely loved him. Initially, I felt intimidated by the "No Phone" policy. He will fail you if you have your phone out in class but that is not an issue if you are willing to listen and participate in each lecture. In his class, I could feel the spirit and the love he has for every student.

Brother Black taught a lesson in New Testament that changes my testimony on the Atonement. Such a great professor who knows his doctrine and loves the gospel

Brother Black has some of the most powerful and spiritual lessons. He is engaging and says some extremely profound statements. The only work outside of sitting in class is reading some scriptures and sometimes talks. The reading only takes an hour at most. There are NO phones in class, otherwise you fail. I absolutely LOVED his class.

By FAR the best professor. Every lesson is spiritual and insightful. If you want to come to class to learn about the gospel, take courses from Bro. Black. No busy work. Just read, journal, and show up. He teaches the gospel and doctrine the way the scriptures say it needs to be taught. Don't listen to the people who rated him poorly; they're soft

Really loved Brother Black, absolutely would take again!

His class is more advanced in terms of the principles he will teach. I enjoyed his lectures immensely, but for some, the way he teaches some of the gospel principles will come off as harsh. Super tough on phones but I enjoy the disconnect and no homework besides prep reading.

He is a spectacular teacher. I got a poor grade, and I deserved it. I didn't do the reading. But Brother Black is one of the best teachers ever. I learned so much in his class, and would often text my family after class about something cool I learned. If you take it, do the reading. Let him teach you. If you do poorly, its 100% on you.

Brother Black has easy homework. If you read the material, are honest about it, take notes, and pay attention this will be the easiest class of your life. Two things: he will fail you if you use your phone during class, and he brings up some pretty random Brigham Young quotes. Otherwise, he is great I highly recommend!

This class significantly developed my testimony of the Book of Mormon and its doctrines. Brother Black has a powerful testimony and cares about teaching truth. He has a no-phone policy and is strict with his requirements, but there is no final and no assignments other than reading. I like how straightforward he is. I would highly recommend him!

I really enjoyed Brother Blacks book of mormon class. He is a caring professor and always wanted to make sure that we were able to get something out of the lesson each day. He has some strict rules on no electronics but it was nice to put away my phone and focus on the lesson. There is something to read before every class so be aware of that.

Professor Black is very passionate about the gospel, what I liked about his class was the grading scale is very straight forward. If you want to receive an A+ in his class all you need to do is 3 things, Read, Journal, and Attend Class. Thats it, be aware he is also very strong in his opinions and can be a bit preachy. NO PHONES! No exceptions.

Bro is the best teacher on campus. If he offends you thats on you not on him. He teaches correct true doctrine, and does not stray from the teachings of the church. If Bro Black bothers you then you either don't have a testimony or are a softy and get offended easily.

Getting a good grade in this class is super easy! He only requires you to read your scriptures before class, show up, and participate in his lectures. You grade yourself based on all these requirements, and honesty is important. No phones!!! Only paper or computer scriptures. Brother Black is an excellent person and truly loves what he does.

Great professor and LOVES what he does! I loved his class. I would caution to be versed in what is doctrine and what is opinion. Be willing to learn, but also make sure you're checking that everything being taught is accurate and true. His interpretations are what he teaches. Very passionate guy though! He has you keep track of all work.

Brother Black was one of those people called to teach. He knows the scriptures like the back of his hand and really helped me to fall in love with the doctrine of the church. He constantly adds context to doctrine and invites the spirit to the room. I think the only reason he would offend you is if you don't believe in the gospel.

Brother Black knows what he's talking about. Though not always the most tactful, he is honest and states only what is stated in the scriptures. He gives amazing lectures despite some concepts being harder for me to comprehend. He also enjoys what he teaches, which is nice.

I LOVE HIM. The only religion teacher I'll take. You are only graded on participation, attendance, reading, and journaling, all self-reported. I see lots of people complain about the no-phones thing, but get over it. He's hilarious and passionate, and he truly cares about his students behind his casual energy.
