This class was difficult for me, not becasue Mr. Linden is bad, but becasue MAT is not my area of study. I got good grade in the class with minimal effort becasue college algebra is my last require math class in undergrad. I would recommend him becasue hes a clear, concise, and friendly math teacher. He is understanding and appears to be human.
Mr. Linden was difficult to understand and was very intimitading. I would not recommand his class to anyone.
He is a great teacher, tests and quizes are hard but if you study you will do fine. Take him only if you plan to go onto Calc., if not, then hes not worth the time, take someone easier.
Very knowledgable teacher. Very difficult teacher for those like myself that struggle with math because he covers material so quickly. Barely got C's on examinations and passed with a B. This class requires tremendous amounts of time practicing problems.
I hated this class. 32 students go in and 6 people took the final in my semester. If you want a time consuming math class this is the guy. If you want to learn Calculus here he is. We had personality conflicts so his help outside of class was worthless. He tried to make me feel dumb. I still got my B. Use Jolena in the Math Lab.(She's Awesome)!
Tests are hard, but an excellent teacher. He is friendly and always willing to help.
Good teacher, he really helped prepare me for my next class.
this teacher was ridiculous. Absolutly no help. He overwhelmed you with homework, went too fast with writing notes on the board, and his test were unbearable. Worst teacher I've had.
Great teacher. Always willing to meet you half way. Those who say he is unreasonable should probably try cracking open their textbook and doing their homework. Not to mention visiting him in his office hours. You cannot pass his class unless you are willing to work hard. Once you a done with his class, you will realize just how prepared you are.
Admittedly, I failed his class. But that at the beginning of my college career, when I was immature and didn't really care. Looking back, though, he was a pretty good instructor. Gave lots of homework, but if you did it he pretty much gave a completion grade for it. Nice guy as well. Recommend, but you got to do the homework and study!
Great teacher. Many of the math teachers at SCC teach for progression in math, so keep this in mind. Speaks plainly and quickly, and is willing to help- says to talk/visit him for help or go to ACE center. He may seem mean but he's just straightforward. This is a tough class, but is worth it if you're willing to put the time and effort into it.
Professor is very particular in regards to notation. On tests requires students to display a thorough understanding of subject matter, teacher often chooses most difficult problems for in class exams...
I got a D the first time I took his class. I was a stubborn freshman that didn't care one bit about studying. The second time I took his class I got a B+ almost an A. He is only helpful if you show you are trying. He is hard but a GREAT teacher.
This guy really knows his stuff. He also UNDERSTANDS it, and works hard to help you understand it as well. This is not an easy class (combined college algebra and trig), but if you're willing to work, I highly recommend him for math and math related majors.
He really knows his stuff but the class goes quick. He encourages lots of questions and is very helpful. Homework is given out but not graded so not many people do it. I almost wish it was graded so I would actually do it more often. Lack of mandatory homework definitely hurt my studying. Lots of self-discipline is required for this class.
This teacher is really challenging but really knows his stuff. He is very clear in lecture, and he was always willing to help when I asked.
Fast paced, but helpful.
He is one of the best teachers ive ever had. Hes got an awesome personality! He is a rare kind of teacher that really is passionate about what he does.
Linden is an intimidating teacher at first, and has every right to be. He is a knowledgeable professor that will do whatever it takes to help you... as long as you put in the effort. You better be prepared to work your rear end off doing the homework and all the quizzes because he is not going to give you a grade you you don't deserve... trust me!
Couldn't have asked for a better teacher. After being out of school for 10 years the best thing I did was start all over and take the lowest math classes. Everything I learned in the first two classes with him I used for my others. I just finished 160 college algebra with an A. If you want to actually learn the math, take Mr. Linden
Like any Math class, it is a lot of work and takes a lot of time outside of class but Mr. Linden is an amazing instructor. He truly cares about students learning the material and is incredibly helpful and patient. I went to his office hours constantly and he was always more than happy to help. I definitely recommend him!
Linden was the best math teacher I have ever had. Teaches you the why behind the what. If you work for it and pay attention, you WILL pass. He makes you work hard for it though. Very tough grading and you will learn to right perfect notation. Offers extra credit per take home quiz, drops two lowest homework and quiz grades. Excellent reviewer.
I took trig with Mr Linden. He is a good teacher, and is very helpful and good to talk to outside of class. The one thing I would say is that he does grade pretty strictly. He cares A LOT about your work being orderly, which isn't a problem for me, but a lot of people hated that about him. Just be prepared to do everything his way, and you're good
Goes over material like it is a review session for everyone. Unclear. Unpleasant. Does not seem to enjoy teaching. Over complicates a lot of material and requires those problems to be done his complicated way only, even if there is a different, simple, yet completely correct, way to do them. No way would I recommend this "teacher" to anyone.
He goes over the material fast, spends more time explaining why he will give you a bad grade if you don't format quizzes and tests the way he wants, then looks at you like you are an idiot when you don't understand what he is teaching. Looks angry 85% of the class. Students are almost scared to ask for help bc to him, every question is a dumb one.
This is the hardest class I have ever taken in my life. Mr. Linden treated every lesson like it was a review and expected students to understand what he was doing immediately. He only smiled one time in the whole 16 weeks of class, and acted like it was an inconvenience when you asked a question. I would not recommend him for anyone to take.
He will make you work for your grade! I learned a lot in his class, but he isn't kidding when he says you need to put in a lot of hours outside of class. He comes off meaner than he is in the beginning, he is actually a really nice guy. He truly cares about his students and wants you to pass. I'd take him again, even knowing how hard he is.
worst teacher i have ever had, assumes you know everything before entering his class, do not take his class, look for other teachers!
I went from a class of 30 to 13. He never seems to smile, always acts like its a big deal when you ask a question and makes you feel stupid in front of the class, and very harsh when it comes to tests and take home quizzes. If you don't do it his way its automatically wrong. DO NOT take this teacher, he doesn't want to help. I was lucky to pass.
I'm awful at math. I had him once before and had to drop, I'm in his class again in a 3 day class instead of a 2 day a week class. He is a VERY harsh grader. But, he does a little bit of extra credit and deep in my heart, I know he wants everyone to pass. You really need to be ready to work hard in order to pass.
I have never worked so hard to pass a class in my life. Mr. Linden is an EXTREMELY tough grader but he makes it clear from the first day of class exactly what he expects. His quizzes & tests are difficult, but if you put in the work he is happy to help students with any questions they may have. Hands down my favorite math teacher. 10/10 recommend!
Mr. Linden came off as very strict on the first day. I was a little worried when he went through his classroom policies. Stern! Do your work, stay alert during lecture, and give the class due effort & he'll respect you and go above and beyond to help you understand things, especially during his office hours. A fantastic teacher with a passion.
Just do your work well and stay off your phone and you will be fine.
Good teacher if you understand and comprehend math. If you struggle with math as it is DO NOT take him for college algebra. He works well with people who understand math or who really put 110% in the class. I failed his class and do not recommend him to anybody who struggles with math.
Amazing teacher. As long as you respect him and his expectations, and do your work, you will not have a problem. Would take his class again.
Always willing to work with students and comes up with creative ways to explain certain topics. Don't be on your phone in class and he won't yell at you. He seems more angry at first but he's actually very nice.
Great teacher overall.. I took him for Pre-Calc and was comfortable with him teaching after the first month. You will have a lot of homework and studying to do.
Mr. Linden is an amazing professor, he truly cares about his students and wants to see them succeed. While his policies may be strict, he is always willing to work with you if you are willing to work too. Would take his class 1000 times again.
I looked up his reviews and took him due to his high rating. Either everyone who previously rated him lied, or are math geniuses and don't actually have to listen to his lectures. He teaches and grades HARD. I had to go to the ace center after every class to actually get a small understanding of the lecture. Take someone else to pass math
Professor Linden is an extremely tough grader but he makes it clear from the first day of class exactly what he expects. Turn in your work early for extra credit because it really helps your grade. He wants to help if you don't understand, so ask questions. Be prepared to work hard in this class. Hands down my favorite math teacher.
was the worst professor I ever had. I signed up to take his class over zoom during the pandemic. I chose this because I find it easier to ask questions while I'm learning . He couldn't figure it out so we were instructed to watch pre-recorded videos that were hard to follow and see the work being done. overall, the worst collage experience ever.
MUST DO WORK THE WAY HE TEACHES IT. If you learned it a different way in high school too bad. He makes this known but its still annoying. He cares more about the work than the right answer. Toughest math teacher Ive ever had and isnt very considerate.
Worst teacher I've ever had. I had to go to a tutor after every lecture because he's such a bad teacher. tests were terrible, impossible and unfair. he tested stuff he didn't teach. His grading was also unfair. I would do the work correctly, write the correct answer, and then lose points because I didn't do the problem "his" way.
He doesn't care if you got the right answer, he still would grade you down on something arbitrary that he mentioned once and is completely irrelevant to anything related to the work. He was worse than no teacher at all. Don't take him. If he is your only option, than wait until next semester.
Listen. DON'T TAKE HIM. Can't teach, requires over the top adherence to his methods, tests were extremely hard to complete in his limited time period, and he tested things he never taught. Likes to play "gotcha" with his tests and grading. RUN. Go to another school, wait a semester, just don't take him!
I can't recommend taking him to anyone. Boring, boring, boring lectures that drone on and on about HIS way to write things out. Confusing. Complains about students constantly. Then his tests are over the top hard. Do not take.
I hated this class. so many weird ways to write things up. He didn't explain the math, he explained his ways to write things up. Had to go to the tutors at school and youtube videos to have any idea what was going on. waste of time.
worst prof I've ever had. awful person too.
This guy is not a good teacher and the class was the most miserable experience I've ever had. Protect yourself, don't take his classes, take someone else.
if you have to ask him a question he made me feel stupid when he answered it like I should already know it. He said, "usually people know how to do this" in front of the whole class. with that tone. He didn't really feel approachable to ask questions to.
I took this class a few semesters ago, and just getting around to posting - RUN AWAY! Do not waste your time with this guy. We all studied very hard, over half the class dropped, everyone got Ds and Fs on tests. All other math teachers I've done great with, but not linden, his grading and teaching don't make sense. deficient teacher.
Profs are supposed to explain and help. kyle did neither. I had to find other ways to learn the material. he's totally substandard. go get another class.
Get someone else. Don't waste your time with him grouchy terrible
He isnt great at conveying material. He really makes you work for it towards the end. I cant be too harsh since it was an online course, but he made it tough.
Awful awful awful. Long, confusing lectures, difficult exams and quizzes all the time. Please go somewhere else, don't take his class.
Take anyone else. Last semester was terrible because of him. The tests were a nightmare. Doesn't explain things well. Barely passed even with hours and hours of work.
Definitely one of the worst classes I've ever taken. you HAVE to go ACE center. All he teaches is his method that is way harder than how the tutors do it. Unbearable tests were over the top hard and not on what we learned. 0/10 don't take him.
His test was so much harder than anything he ever did in class. I wasted my time studying for hours just to fail a test that was on stuff I've never seen and he didn't teach. Avoid him and take anyone else. That's what I'm doing next semester, and I'm mad I have to do this over again.
Im pretty good at math, but this teacher is impossible.
waste of time, had to drop, no matter how hard I worked, couldn't pass tests. about 1/2 class has dropped so far. have to take this over next semester, with a DIFFERENT teacher. don't take him, you'll regret it.
He pretends to be helpful, and then gives super hard tests. He pretends to give lots of extra credit, but it's worth nothing in the total grade. He pretends to teach, but he only rants about doing things with his procedures and never really teaches how to just do the problems. Worst math teacher I've ever had.
Looks like about 1/2 the class has dropped this semester, including me. Why? He only teaches his super confusing methods. The tests are extremely hard. The tests are worth a lot and the homework worth almost nothing. I couldn't pass the tests. Spare yourself and avoid his classes.
that was a terrible semester. don't take him, awful lectures and tests that were the worst I've ever had. I studied so much and the test had stuff on it I've never seen. unfair tests. I barely passed even with tons of help from the tutor center. They were great, use them if you're stuck with him. it's better to take someone else.
He's extraordinarily picky about everything. If your answer on the test doesn't follow his convoluted procedure, even though you did the work correctly and got the correct answer, you will lose points. nightmare tests, nightmare class. Completely irrational.
just don't take him. can't teach and tests are terrible
Doesnt teach anything on your homework and takes hours to do. Dont take his class, if you get the right answer on test and quizzes but didnt do his way of math then its incorrect.
Not a decent teacher. He was just really hard. Will not be taking any more math classes at SCC because of him. DO NOT TAKE!
Yes, this is a very difficult class. I wanted to drop so many times but Prof. Linden encouraged me to keep going. I highly recommend getting help during his office hours because it will help you better understand his methods. Watch the test videos as well. Im someone with learning disabilities, so I feel like if I passed anyone can.
He has his "methods" that he insists you use, even though there are better and easier ways to do the work. He takes points off on tests for the slightest deviation from his method, even when you get the correct answer. Take anyone else but him.
I'm good at math. All I need is clear and straightforward explanations. Then I get it. Linden does not teach that way, he's very confusing and when you try to get help, it makes it worse. I'm getting by with lots of private tutoring. Like half the class has dropped too.
It's been a terrible semester. I've been lost so much of the time, and I'm not sure what my grade is, his grading is confusing. When I went to him for help, he was mean to me, and basically said I shouldn't have been in this class. I got all A's in math before this semester. He makes me feel like a failure, even though I study all the time.
I never will take him again, and you shouldn't take him even once! Worst class, I somehow made it through. More than half the students dropped the class, it was so awful. I wish I had waited a semester, there's different teacher now.
Going to him for help was useless because he still teaches the same confusing way he teaches in class. I only got decent help at the tutoring center. If you're stuck with him, go there and don't waste your time going to his office hours. Better yet, take someone else.
College algebra is not an easy class, but Professor Linden is super good at math; always willing to help during office hours and allow his students to understand the material much better when asking about how to improve in the class; and in his lectures, his notes allow the students to get better at mathematics, and score high on their assignments.
He was confusing every time I asked for help. I went to the tutoring center, and they were extremely good. Go there for all your questions. I will never take him again, the other math teachers here are a lot better teachers and explain things in much better ways.
Make sure you don't miss a single day this class moves pretty quickly. He seems like a really chill and accommodating guy unlike most other professors I've had. Grading was pretty hard though and it was very easy to lose points while showing work even though the answers might be correct. Make sure you turn in your quizzes early to makeup for that
He is the single worst teacher I've ever had. He refused to help me when I went to him outside of class. His tests were impossible, and I had a private tutor. That's the only way I passed. I'll never take a math class again because of him.
He was tough grader and miserable teacher. I studied for hours and barely passed. Never had something like this happen before, and I worked hard. My next math class, while a higher level, was much easier since I had a great teacher who gave reasonable tests.
Students are required to answer the exams by only following the methods taught from the lecture, which were not very good methods, the tutors at the tutoring center taught me much easier and better methods. But I lost points getting correct answers since I didn't use his exact and inefficient methods.
He was one of the best professors I've had. He provided his students with papers for every chapter. If you are considering taking his class in upcoming semesters, I would highly recommend practicing every question on the papers and also taking his practice tests before your exams. Don't hesitate to visit his office hours :) Good luck!
He requires you to use ONLY his inefficient and ridiculous methods for solving problems. I got correct answers marked wrong because I used a normal way to do some of the test questions. What sort of math teacher marks a correct answer wrong and takes away points? Don't waste time with office hours either, he just repeats the same methods.
Unnecessarily hard. He takes basic concepts and makes the work torturously over-complicated. Avoid.
Going to his office hours is a waste of time. He only repeats the same weird procedures he wants you to use, that are way over complicated and don't even work. He can't teach. Just save your time and don't take this teacher.
Pretty good
If you miss class, you won't know how to do the torturous methods that he requires you to use. If you have a method that is different than what was taught, even if you get the right answer, its wrong. Tests are impossible, and often feature things never talked about in lecture. He leaves passive aggressive comments on tests. Avoid this professor
worst class i've ever taken. i've never studied so hard for a math class in my life only to fail the final exam and not pass. the exams are weighted so heavy so it you don't do well on one of them good luck trying to get your grade above a 75 the rest of the semester. he also teaches his own ways to solve problems instead of easier methods.
This class was very difficult. I have been out of math for a long time so maybe my perception is skewed from those coming straight out of high school. He will work with you on tests and due dates if you are out of town for any reason, which I did appreciate, but overall I found the content challenging.
He's a poor teacher. I've had challenging classes before, along with great teachers, but Linden is simply bad at teaching. He has these extremely set ways of doing things, which aren't even the easiest or best ways, just HIS ways, and if you don't do the problems exactly as he states, and even get the answers right, he'll still take points off.
DO NOT take a class with him. He does not like you thinking in a different way because you are penalized for doing questions a different way then he teaches you. If you are late, don't even bother showing up because he takes points off your final grade for every minute your late. He teaches too fast, gives too much homework, and is not interesting.
Very test heavy, loads of homework, and harsh grader. I studied and did the homework for over an hours seven days a week just to fail the class. He leaves passive aggressive comments on quizzes and tests, and would often be passive aggressive if you asked a question in class. Overall I would not recommend.
Linden's methods aren't reasonable, and if you don't follow to the exact detail his methods, even if you get the answer right, you will be marked wrong. This is just the beginning of why he's is the single worst teacher I've ever had anywhere, at any time. [For some reason he has two ratings, so I'm posting this on both of them.]
Sincerely hate my life while having this professor. Grades very harshly and if you do not show a singular, minor step in any of your work, points will be docked. Assigns a quiz and multiple hw assignments every single week. The class is taught in the most roundabout and unintuitive ways, you cannot deviate from these methods without losing points.
I honestly wasnt expecting such a low rating for him, however I could kind of see why. Long story short if you are active in class, ask questions and do your homework then you will do great. He makes you do it his way but overall that is usually the most efficent way and his study guides are just like the tests.Just different numbers.Take the class!
this class alone made me contemplate dropping out of college entirely, he is extremely anal-retentive for showing work. You could be 99/100 on your work and steps but since you missed that one little step your docked over half the points, He also assigns an extreme amount of work of ten 15-40 question assignments and quizzes every other day
