It's basically Psych275 but in a little more detail. He goes into a lot more detail than is actually tested on exams, exams are pretty easy but the written questions can be tough. There are 2 assignments which together, weigh the same as 1 midterm so that's definitely a huge bonus! Liked the class, loved the prof, super funny and quirky. Recommend!
Even though I think Dr. Mathewson could be a better teacher, I liked him as a professor. He is very passionate about what he does i.e. studying the brain. He was always telling us about all these conferences and talks about the brain on campus. I was very inspired and could envision myself doing this for a living. Tests are fair, read the text.
I thought I'd love this class and I ended up hating it. The calendar description didn't match the syllabus. His lectures were circuitous and he didn't seem to know what he was doing (teaching-wise). Lecture notes were just pictures, you had to write everything. He makes you draw diagrams on tests. Felt like he was flying by the seat of his pants.
Dr. Mathewson is just great. I learned more in 475 than I did in any other class (I may just be biased because Cognitive Neuroscience is my favorite subjecttopic). He knows A LOT but will still listen to your Undergrad level ideas and consider your questions. He also REALLY wants you to do well and does so much to help students succeed. Love him.
His notes are horrid. 0 words, just pics. He talks too fast to try & get everything down before he moves to the next slide (sometimes 4+ pictures on 1 slide). He added "notes" in a separate file that are useless. He second guesses himself in class, and laughs but doesn't actually teach much it seems. Doesn't seem confident with what he is saying.
I thought I would love 275 but ended up hating it. His lectures are impossible to follow, he jumps around from topic to topic constantly. He puts pictures on his lecture slides that aren't on the online notes. He seems like a nice enough guy, but going to class just ended up confusing and frustrating me more and more.
Hilarious Prof. Keeps you paying attention in his lectures because of his enthusiasm and jokes. Many pictures on slides catch your attention as well. Follows the textbook very closely, which helped so much for comparing the notes to the textbook to further understand.
Very good at conveying his passion for psych through lecture and connecting students with the relevance of biopsychology and the real world. Very clear with his lectures; slides were sometimes not as clear. Jokes are funny and relatable, and he is very helpful with answering questions.
He has great lectures but be prepared, there is VERY little text on the slides so make sure you take good notes. Assignment had somewhat unclear criteria, but the tests were very clear and straightforward. You will need the text. It is sometimes a little more clear and detailed than the lectures. All over he was a wonderful prof!
Dr. Mathewson is definitely passionate and enthusiastic about what he teaches, but his notes are terrible. Every slide is a picture with no words/explanation and the verbal explanation he gives is insufficient.
Professor Mathewson's lectures were engaging and entertaining. It was always a joy to come to class.
This professor is okay at teaching but his notes are absolutely vague and disorganized. Going to class really won't change anything. He also won't answer any questions outside class. He is definitely not willing to put in anymore time than he has to and will 99% of the time tell you to ask somebody else who came to class.
The worst thing about this prof is that he doesn't really care about us. When someone asked what is the best way to study the test he said: "read the textbooks and study the lecture." Ends lecture too fast, and lectures lack details. Does not provide practice questions for the 1st midterm and does not give answers to practice question for the 2nd.
Some heavy content, but taught the material well. Teaches right from the textbook so it was a great reference when needing extra info. Very fair tests, 2 non-cumaltive midterms and 1 final paper write up of an experiment that we did in the class, easy participation marks if you just show up to experiment days. Highly recommend
Come to class to hear him read off the slides - no extra effort given to make us understand the material in the ways he expected us to. Exams are insanely hard multiple choice, I could feel my body giving up during the final. He doesn't provide clear answers to questions asked, and you might as well just sit at home and study the textbook.
This class isn't hard, it's just exhausting. The power points are useless(just pictures) .The notes tell you exactly what's gonna be on the exams. I recomand completing them by what he says /the txt book. The exams are not difficult if you study well. I highly recomand for the assignment (40%) to work with a partner (alot of reading/writing).
Go to every class and write down everything he says. The midterms consists of mc and short answer. The MC is very easy but the short answer can be difficult if you don't know everything inside and out. The final paper is marked very easily and can be submitted as a group paper. The class average was a B+ !
You can tell when he gets to a chapter that he doesn't like, it's like he just gives up and acts really bored when he teaches it. Uses twitter instead of email and doesn't actually read the questions people tweet him which is confusing when he gives the wrong answer and has to correct himself.
When he cares about the topic, his lectures are very entertaining and he is hilarious. HOWEVER, when he does not care about a topic he will end class very early and he is not good at answering questions. Honestly, do not bother going to class, he reads off the slides. The tests are super random, so follow his slides closely with the textbook!!
I love Kyle as a prof. If you just read his slides and the textbook briefly, its an easy B. Hes a funny guy to have. He also records all the lectures so you dont even have to go to class. He uses the questions option on google slides so you dont have to raise your hand for a question. Overall, I really love him, and have him next term for 375.
3 midterms and thats it. Textbook heavy material though - get the textbook for sure. Funny guy, you can tell he loves psychology - highly recommended.
He's the best
Dr. Mathewson is hilarious and super chill. Course was content heavy, but if you read the textbook and add notes during class it's very manageable. Exams were all based off his lecture slides and the studies mentioned in the textbook, so that's the best stuff to study. If you're interested in the brain you should enjoy this course.
This class is quite difficult compared to other psych classes. It is very content heavy. He tests on the textbook only and uses his lecture to cover the more complicated topics in it. So, as long as you read the textbook, you will be fine for the exam. I would suggest reading and then only going to class if there is something you don't understand.
Kyle Mathewson was absolutely hilarious. He made coming to class worth it even though you could literally just read the whole textbook and be set. His notes are literally copy and pasted from the textbook but he made the lectures worthwhile with his commentary and humour. Do memorize even the smallest diagrams on his lecture notes!!
Cram-fest. Everything you need to know is in the textbook, but I attended and liked his lectures. 3 MC midterms (non-cumulative), each worth 1/3 of grade. Tests were fair overall, but some very trivial questions too. He came to class with the 4 questions people did the worst on and guessed three of them wrong. His reaction was, "It's your test!"...
Dr. Matthewson is a good prof. It's easy to do well in the class as long as you put in a fair amount of effort. The tests were straightforward and his lectures were helpful, although not necessary alongside the textbook. He's passionate about psychology and always threw interesting facts into his lectures.
This was an online course and was very easy. 3 midterms 25% each, quizzes total with 25%. It was fully open book and collaborative, questions pulled directly out of lecture/textbook. Notes were directly from the textbook so you didn't really have to watch them but he throws in some interesting stuff. Overall good guy and good prof, fully recommend!
Buying and reading the textbook is crucial for this class, as majority of the test questions aligned directly with what was stated in the textbook. Very content heavy course, but it helped that this course was online and exams were open-book/collaborative.
Hands down the least stressful psych class given the content of the course. Everything was collaborative and open book, exam questions were straight from the textbook. You could get by without watching any of the lectures. Super chill & the easiest A by far.
Asynchronous class. He would upload videos of him reading information from the textbook off PPT slides, so if you don't want to watch an hour long (possibly more) video of it, you can just read from the textbook and I can guarantee you can pass the class.
The textbook is the key to success. Chapter quiz each week, which are open book and take directly from the textbook. Never attended a lecture or watched any of the recorded lectures. As long as you read the textbook and take some notes, the quizzes are a breeze. 3 midterms all non cumulative and open book as well. Interesting course material too!
I'm not sure how the course changes in person, but definitely take it if it's online. I didn't watch a single lecture. There's chapter quizzes every week and you didn't need to read the textbook in advance because they were open book. 3 non cumulative midterms that you also just needed the textbook for because they were open book. Easiest A ever!
Amazing human being and actually wants you to learn, quizzes every week or so and three big MC midterms that are straight out of the textbook. Yes, material is very detailed but come to classes and read a little and you will get the easiest A ever. Plus Mathewson is just so sweet and genuinely wants you to do well.
He was very transparent about expectations and his class structure emphasizes dynamic learning instead of memorization, and makes it easy to do well as long as time and effort are put into the course. He's a great guy and you can tell he wants everyone to excel.
really funny prof. makes a lot of jokes in class. easiest class I've taken so far. would take a class with him again. his lectures are so fun and engaging. the quizzes, midterms and final are based off the textbook word for word. if you have a question about anything he'll answer. chapters aren't that long to read and are actually insightful.
Very funny prof, explained concepts very well and quick to answer any questions. Had 1 quiz per chapter and 3 midterms (not cumulative), very easy, based exactly on textbook/notes and all open book. Very caring and wants students to succeed! If you're a psych major take his class 100%.
Super clear expectations for the class and was easily accessible. His lectures aren't mandatory but they are fun and engaging if you decide to go. Each chapter had a quiz that was due before the lecture (about 1 a week) and there were 3 midterms (noncumulative). Overall a really interesting class and a great prof
Dr. Mathewson often did not seem well-prepared for the lectures, and if he did, the lecture content is directly taken from the textbook and not presented in an original way. I was not enlightened or inspired by his lectures and have skipped approximately 50% of his lectures but still did decent, meaning my success did not depend much on him.
If you are taking PSYCH 275, take it with him. I never showed up to class and scored an A+. All exams were open book. Everything is from the textbook, the lecture only goes through the important parts but the textbook is what the exams are based on.
Dr. Mathewson was great for PSYCH 275. He was very funny, and his lectures were super interesting. His grading was very clear, and exams were fair. Tests were open-book and easy. Definitely take this class with him.
Very easy open book quizzes and tests, all you have to do is read the textbook and write notes. Lectures are not mandatory and definitely recommend if you want an A.
take this class if your number one priority is getting a super high GPA, don't take this class if you prioritize learning. . .
Dr. Mathewson is a great prof! Definitely take his course.
Super disappointed in the way he taught. He took super interesting material and made it bland and boring. I did not care for him as a lecturer.
He's alright. Idk why people are saying he's super easy when that's not the case. Def read the textbook it's manageable if you do.
Nice dude! His IRL class is def harder than past online years. Read the textbook and you will be okay
I think his exams got harder over time? First was easy, second one def should have studied more. But it's not too bad and you can always shoot him an email
Nice person, boring lectures though, I did not attend once after the second week of class and did well in the course. I would recommend him to anyone looking for a GPA booster as the textbook and notes are sufficient to do well!
As an instructor he rambles quite a bit (I only attended the syllabus lecture and he went on tangents even then) but I highly recommend taking his class as all exams are online, non-cumulative, open-book.
I never went to class, besides the first one. Someone said he rambles a lot which is very true. Exams and quizzes are online and open-book and straight from the textbook, so no point in attending his lectures. Easy class, I recommend taking it with him.
Dr. Mathewson is a very smart individual who would always show us what he was working on at the labs, and how it connected to what we were being lectured about. He does tend to ramble, which can be a bit offputting, but it is manageable. If you want to do well definitely take him.
Dr. Mathewson's classes are good to take as a GPA booster, but are quite difficult to actually learn from as lectures are very hard to follow (mostly rambling). But the class structure is super easy to follow and low pressure as quizzes and exams are all online and open book
quizzes were taking directly from the textbook, word for word, would definitely recommend spending the money for the textbook to gain access to the quizzes, course was a breeze, attendance isn't mandatory and he doesn't cover any lecture slides in them,
Dr. Matthewson truly cares about his students, is very accessible (even online), and is always willing to help. Highly recommend this course for anyone interested in the brain and behaviour or who is needing psych credit. Put in the effort—annotate the textbook, take good notes—and you'll do get an A. Would take this class again in a heartbeat!
I can count on 1 finger the # of times I went to class. 9 weekly chapter quizzes, 2 midterms, 1 final (3rd midterm) are all online, non-cumulative, open book. Only tests from textbook so lectures are just yap sessions. He also gave extra time than was originally assigned to complete exams. If you want a free A, take this class.
Never attended a single lecture and got an A. Everything is online and open book. Invest in the textbook, read it, and make notes off it. 9 quizzes (20%), midterm 1 (25%), midterm 2 (25%), midterm 3 / final (30%). I guarantee everyone can get at least an A- in this course if they put in the effort. Most complaining went to the unrequired lectures.
Just writing to inform that he has recently changed his approach to teaching and grading the course. Slides are not posted and all tests are closed book.
Recently changed class style to closed book, written paper tests, and is an awful teacher. Notes are full of unnecessary extra information and jargon. He recites directly from script during lecture with no elaboration on info. Based the course around AI, and spends more time talking about AI and coding than brain and behaviour. Talks during quiz.
BEWARE!! He rambles on and on in class and everyone is confused. He does not use canvas and instead has his own website.. is not clear about our assignments and expects you to know how to code. Cut off for an A- is 87 which is crazy. Do not take his class, he is unclear and you will be confused of what is going on.
He talks during quizzes, very engaged in Al material, he has Al mark our quizzes… content not really straight forward. All his material and his script that he reads off seems to be Al generated. Don't recommend
I wrote 8 pages of notes for a note package prof devoted 1.5 lectures hour and a half lectures to reading from a script of. Took this class because it was supposed to be an easy elective. Boy howdy Boy howdy Would include picture of notes but can't and I'm embarrassed of the tear droplets on them.
Great potential class, however, HEAVILY mismanaged. Doesn't use canvas, he had his own website that he makes, which is a buggy mess. His notes are basically AI generated slop with so much subject specific jargon that gets in the way of actual learning. Almost done the term, and hasn't gotten our marks back, which, shocker, is on his buggy website.
As other students have mentioned, he uses A.I. to mark quizzes and does not used canvas or a textbook. I feel as though I've set myself up for failure in other courses that require this as a prerequisite--so many unnecessary concepts and terms in the notes, unengaging lectures, etc. I would recommend choosing another prof for this subject.
he's a chill guy, but a horrible teacher. No slides, just long transcripts which make it very hard to understand what's important. His exams are all fill in the blank, short and long answer questions. He's also not punctual at all. He was supposed to post a complementary online exam for us 3 days ago and still hasn't and the final is in 5 days.
SAVE UR SOUL AND DONT TAKE IT WITH HIM. Rude and very inconsiderate.
Doesn't take accountability as a professor and doesn't care about his students
Never have I ever experienced a class like this. Refuses to take accountability for the problems he creates. Chooses not to make a canvas, doesn't give us any updates, then gets mad at us for emailing him and says he won't respond to emails anymore. Contradicts himself, lacks consistency, disrespectful when he does decide to respond. 0/10
He doesn't teach, he just yaps at u. No slides just an ai generated script. Rude and childish. He made changes in the middle of the sem to our grades and added an optional quiz without telling anyone. Also he ghosted the discord (because we have no canvas) for like 2 weeks. Now he said he's not answering emails bc we email him too much.
DO NOT TAKE PSYCH 275 WITH HIM.
prides himself on using ai to grade our quizzes and exam, brags about how he can mark 250+ exams in less than 5 mins but can't get our quizzes to us back in time, wastes class time to ramble on random topics that aren't tested, didn't go through the last 2 chapters and have to watch his 4 years old youtube videos on them because he ran out of time.
Gets upset when he receives multiple emails about the class specifically details regarding the final exam. Won't answer emails anymore because some students "have overstepped the boundary and won't stop sending minor questions"
we wouldn't have to ask if he would've properly given us out the information earlier and in a more clear manner.
He's a lazy, rude, and extremely unprofessional professor. How are you going to get mad at your students for asking when a test will be posted that you said would be posted 3 days ago? Also got mad at students who were asking for their quiz marks back, which we did over 2 weeks ago. He clearly needs better time management skills.
He won't take accountability, he's disorganized, unprofessional, rude, and unserious. Everything he's complaining about is something that he could've prevented from the beginning if he had only used canvas.
The class is heavily weighted on exams and quizzes but is terrible at giving them back in a timely manner
Don't take Psych 275 with him. Rambles during lectures. Took over a month to grade the midterm, and takes a while to get quizzes back. No Canvas, but a website and a Discord where he mainly uses vague/dry responses. Uses AI to mark everything. Often late to lectures. Super frustrating class, I recommend any other Prof.
He's a horrible professor in terms of content, marking, and timeliness. His lectures are horrible, and his exams and quizzes are marked 100% with ai. Despite this, he takes over a month to return grades, and is currently crashing out over being emailed and asked questions about both content and receiving grades back, when our final is in 4 days.
He provides a lot of resources for his students and is very transparent and generous with exam formatting. There have been some delays with his grading, but overall he clearly cares about the course and is passionate about the what he teaches. I've enjoyed taking his class.
bro takes months to grade anything and he literally grades it all with ai the lectures he doesn't even talk about the course content half the time he just goes off on tangents and he seems annoyed when anyone asks him to grade the things we did months ago, content itself it easy but i don't feel like i learned anything at all the whole class
Very easy course, great grade booster, because he uses AI to make questions and mark it, and the AI is very generous. However, if you really want to learn the material, avoid this class, you will know nothing. He gave us a 200 question supplement test to boost our mark, made by AI, and every answer was A. Yes, all 200 questions... what more to say.
Dr. Mathewson is a great professor. The vast majority of negative reviews are due to getting our grades back a bit later than we had hoped for which is a valid concern but his positives heavily outweigh any of this. His exams are extremely fair. He is by far my favorite professor this semester and everyone seems to take him for granted!
He posted like 15 ai generated videos of himself inventing floating toilets instead of marking our midterms. @MathKyle on twitter scroll through his account
Only take his class if you want A.I. as a prof and deal with a grown man throwing temper tantrums on discord
incredibly unprofessional, and doesn't seem to be able to do his job without becoming emotionally unstable. Doesnt teach anything well, uses AI to do all his responsibilities, and takes his anger out on students when they ask questions. If hes having so much trouble doing half the work hes supposed to do, I wonder if he should even be employed.
Every recent rating that says he is good is written by himself. Never met a professor this unprofessional. He prolly used AI to write his rate my prof reviews, just like how he used Ai to make his whole course. Embarrassing, and a disservice to U of A's reputation
He doesn't teach the course, AI does. AI made website, AI notes, AI tests/exams/quizzes, and AI marks the test. He offloads all work to AI but hasn't returned our grades, claiming he's "busy." How? When AI does it all? Students raise valid complaints, yet he lashes out petulantly when confronted. This is not a class, it's a experiment.
Don't take this class with him if possible. Has all his notes and website written by a.i( 10 long paragraphs per chapter with rambling and jargon that you can't even understand. Gets mad at students when we ask for our grades and claims he's too busy because he was making us different ressources to help study for the final( also all ai made)
He's LITERALLY crashing out about his rate my professor and Reddit page - He took DOWN the practice exam before the final which is in TWO days, all because he's mad about a REVIEW. I'd bet my net worth that he got ChatGPT to summarize the review for him because that's how much he glazes AI.
Poor guy D:
I would not recommend this course. Lectures and materials were disorganized, Grading was slow and inconsistent, even though it was done using AI. The professor was often late to class and frequently went off topic. Overall, I would strongly recommend choosing a different professor if possible.
He wanted to try something new, fresh, modern some might say. some didnt like it and thats okay. the reviews got him upset. Its a learning experience for him and for us. he's a good guy. not evil. we all got worked up. but we all learned to care for each other too. I know he'll go back to the drawing board and execute this better.
I don't understand the hate regarding AI use. If anything his use of AI made the class easier to get a good grade in. I will admit, his notes that he provides are wordy and difficult to understand. However, these notes are not even required. His tests are not heavily memorization based, you only need to know main concepts and how to apply them.
He is not a bad prof despite some reviews, however I did find it hard to follow his lectures. Content he teaches is interesting, but i found it more convenient to study on my own. His website is indeed vague, the format of exams and quizzes is questionable. But if you managed to get the concepts, it is pretty easy to get a good grade.
He crashed out on discord because of negative reviews, removed his AI generated study resources and exam supplement, and needed to be de-escalated like a child to replace them. Any recent positive reviews on here were students sucking up to him (can't even blame them) so that he would forgive us and repost the materials. Full grown man btw
Interesting prof and loves what he teaches which is awesome, but it's pretty darn weird to follow along and know what content to actually study. Uses AI to grade but whatever. Not my favourite prof, a little disorganized, but it's insanely easy to do well in his class. Anyone giving 5 star difficulty have never had a hard class.
Recently, he has changed his way of formatting this class, which I believe has resulted in some of the vagueness and disorganization. The professor is more focused on the application/understanding for exams/quizzes, etc, so it focuses more on open-ended answers than straight facts. Exams, however, are VERY densely packed, so it can be quite a rush
to the person commenting below talking about us "sucking up to him" and calling him a child, this is not helpful at all, it kind of emphasizes the hate he is getting vs. feedback. there are valid concerns about AI use here but comments like THIS can be disregarded. Idk why this person thought that was a good idea.
Took over a month to grade the AI midterm using a very flawed AI system, and everything he posts is AI-generated, and evidently so. Showed up to nearly every class 5-10min late, talked off a script, and was incredibly unprofessional and passive aggressive in his responses. Very clear he doesn't respect his students time, yet he expects our respect
Dr. Mathewson is deadass an amazing prof, idk why people are so mad about him. Uses AI for marking and midterms, but practice midterm and final are literally exactly the same as the actual exam. Very easy class 10/10 would recommend, anyone who gives him a bad rating is just an idiot and can't critically think.
Practically impossible to do bad in this class if you put in any amount of effort. He provides tons of helpful material, including practice exams and an online review scaffold for both the midterm and final. Quiz and Midterm marking was incredibly generous. I physically don't think its possible to struggle with the amount of practice materials.
Super nice with the formatting of the class and the exams. If you put in effort, you will do amazing in his class. People complaining are taking his efforts for granted, and clearly havent even began to actually use the materials available to us. You can look at the review materials for a near perfect idea of whats on the exams...
Easy course, you don't even need to try, but doesn't teach you anything; which sucks if its a prereq for other courses you need, especially for people in neuroscience. There is a reason he got in trouble by upper year profs for not preparing students for their classes, seems he has not learned.
Brain dead easy class, but u learn nothing… good luck on advanced classes you need this one for soilders
I feel for the dude, reading all the negative comments is not easy, but he might want to take this as a learning opportunity, and take a deep breath and handle it will a little more professionalism as a grown adult, and a person with authority and power
He is funny, generous with the materials he provides for exams, and easy grading on all of our quizzes. The transcript style lectures are not ideal,he isn't very punctual but people took it too far. But he was unprofessional in his reaction to everything and acted out of emotion. He could have responded to the negative comments in a much better way.
This is easily my favorite class this whole semester. I really liked how how much studying material he provided for us. I also really appreciate the quiz formats and midterm. The content is very informative and the guys is hilarious, don't listen to the haters lmao
AI teaches you, the prof simply entered the the prompt into ChatGPT, give that thing your tuition. The laziness is truly admirable lwk.
Midterm average was 80 as he showed us. The AI marks easy with a rubric set up by him. He found a shortcut to make the class easy for himself using AI and in the process it's lenient on us. The really recent comments are just online harassment now. You're mad cuz he got mad so I don't get how harassing makes things right. Just forgive him please.
Crazy people are defending this guy for being the laziest prof in the uofa. We pay a lot of tuition to get taught by assumed knowledgeable people not some ai chat bot… seriously, it sets a bad precedent for academics and a even worse indication for the direction of academia.
Amazing prof who really wants students to get high grades. Most of the people complaining here are only doing so because they're mad at his reaction to posts. He gives plenty of practice tests, an optional grade boost assignment, and the assessments are very fair. His lectures are one of the most engaging ones. Take him if you can!
This class was one of the most interesting and engaging classes I've taken in my psych degree. Mathewson is a chill guy, and his lectures are engaging. There's plenty of opportunities provided by him to do well for this course. Not a very difficult class, if you put in the work you can get a great mark.
Honestly if you put even the smallest effort into the class and learning key concepts you will excel. It's all pass fail quizzes and basically a build-a-bear for the midterm and final where you pick which questions you want to answer. Clear expectations, good study guides, nice, approachable.
He spent this whole semester stressing us out left and right, only to give us a crazy amount of free marks including a 10% boost to our final grade. He also surprised us with 30 extra min to write the final. You really just have to trust the process with this man, but I never want to experience anything like this again 😭 love u kyle
Honestly I don't know what I was stressing about, but there are a lot of free marks. Quizzes pass or fail, an optional exam to boost our mark, exams are written but if you know the slightest bit you can do well in this course.
Amazing prof who wants his students to do well. His class consisted of 8 quizzes, a midterm and a final exam. He created study guides, provided lots of practice exams, and also an optional exam for a grade booster. I would definitely take a class with him again! You can honestly put minimal effort in and still do great in his class.
Simple class to get a good mark in with little effort. Quizzes are free marks, and the exams are simple if you know at least half the material. He tried new things this semester that weren't recieved very well, and while some of his behaviour was a little unprofessional I'd like to think this was an outlier semester. Worthwhile at the very least.
Not worth 5 stars, but I wanted to boost his rating. Very easy to get a good grade in his class, and I've attended about 2 lectures out of my own will. His quizzes are free 100%'s, and his exams are probably one of the fairest I've written. Just have to study a few days ahead, he lets you choose the questions. Cool guy, ppl are just overdramatic.
Great guy, tried something new this semester which didn't quite align w some students. Hopefully he takes feedback and makes it better for future students. Grading is extremely fair, however throws students on an emotional rollercoaster sometimes :( I would recommend his class, but u just gotta trust the process LOL
Trust the process
Kyle Mathewson is an engaging and knowledgeable professor who explains complex concepts in PSYCH 275 clearly and in a way that actually makes the material interesting. He creates a supportive learning environment and genuinely cares about students understanding the content, which made the class both enjoyable and rewarding
He showed up to class 5-10min late every class (once 30min), used AI for absolutely everything (notes, exams and grading), and wasn't respectful in his responses to questions
Just read the material on your own. Going to class will be a waste of your time. When studying for the midterm and final it is better to know 3-5 units VERY WELL, than know 80% of the content in each unit. Exams are beyond free, as you can skip questions you don't know. Dr. Mathewson is a good guy though and very kind and responsive to emails.
Don't even think about it, dealing with him is such a headache
Don't even think about it, I'm begging you.
Bro, this class is so easy... 1/2 of the students got over 90% in the class...yes HALF. But you learn nothing, I can't remember a single thing.
Dude needs to understand he doesn't need to engage with everyone. He engages with wack questions then has attitude about it. Just simply ignore it. Simple.
You don't learn anything in his class, and he uses AI for everything. Don't bother, take someone else. He also complains about having to answer emails and gets mad at students for no reason on discord.
He complains about having to do his job and gets mad at students for no reason. And you learn NOTHING in his class, so good luck doing well in the higher level Psych classes u need this one for. Don't even think about it
You don't learn nothing in his class and he complains about having to answer emails while using AI to make notes and grade exams...
He always said we should be "grateful" and "considerate" even though he was literally so hard to deal with and this is literally his job like nobody made u apply...like? the laziness is admirable..
Made it impossible to learn anything. Notes are filled with jargon that doesn't get explained in lectures. Nothing is formatted into slides or presentations, he just talks at everyone and goes on confusing tangents. Easy grading but not worth it if you need this class for higher level courses.
Unfortunately I cannot accurately describe this professor's behaviour without my review being removed. Just trust when I say it wasn't good...
