Kyle is a wonderful professor who is great at going the extra mile to make sure you learn the material. Attend all his lectures and go visit him in his office when you have questions! His workload is low so that you have lots time to study. His class is an easy B but you have to work really hard for that A
One of the best profs I've ever had! Material and exams are pretty easy as long as you go to lecture and do the reading (posted online, no textbook!). Every lecture is thought-provoking. Very passionate about his field, and does a great job of transferring that passion to his students, but without forcing his own opinions on you. Take this class!
AMAZING teacher. Very clear and funny during all of his lectures. Tests aren't too bad?easy B if you do a minimal amount of studying. Small in class group writings also bring up your grade. Defiantly take this class if you're interested or just need a science. Not too much of a work load, just some longish readings. Great professor!
Great Professor, loves what he teaches.
Adorable. Love when his voice cracks. Dreamboat smile. Makes me love loons
Probably the best Professor I've ever had. So passionate about what he teaches and actually wants his students to succeed. Makes the class interesting by providing videos and not making you just sit and listen to him talk. His tests are pretty easy but you definitely have to listen and go to lecture. Love him!
If you are looking for a group D without a lab, take this! It is easy to follow and easy to do well. He is such a nice guy and makes you care about animals and the environment in a new way. He has opened my eyes to this new subject. Scantron tests, easy quizzes (1 dropped) Take!
Hot. So cute, seriously. Worth going to class just to see him smiling in his North Face. Sit near the front for the eye candy. Slides are online. Takes random attendance quizzes. Practice reading questions are provided for your use for the tests. Make sure you know examples, pay attention during his videos and such.
He's great, real chill laid back, class is basically full of pictures and videos of cute little animals
Best thing that happened to my first semester in college. So helpful, so inspiring, and not a hard class. Just study a lot and you'll get a B+. I probably have an A- or a B+. TAKE THIS CLASS- McCarthy is awesome!
Great professor, fun to talk to, awesome dude overall. TAKE THIS CLASS, He's by far my favorite professor here.
He's a passionate teacher that knows his stuff. Although he goes very fast on the lecture notes, he puts them up online. I would not recommend skipping this class because you will miss a lot. He's funny and charismatic. And show's funny videos. I really recommend this class.
Super easy and the first section of this class is interesting. Not a Wildlife major or anything remotely related to it and took it as an elective and actually really enjoyed it. Have to go to class! Gives random quizzes and posts slides but they don't have info on them. Highly recommend.
I don't know why everyone says this class is so easy. I listened to these reviews and took the class because I thought it would an easy A. I've never missed a class and have studied for days for each exam and am still failing the class. Praying to pass with a C-
Actually not as easy as expected. The class requires a decent amount of studying if you want an A, definitely not hard to get a B at all though. McCarthy is a really nice guy and is so enthusiastic about what he teaches. I recommend it but don't expect to do nothing and get an A.
If you need a group D without a lab, this is a good choice. Definitely not the easiest class, need to go to class & read the textbook (online pages). I ended up with a B and put in a significant amount of effort. Final was difficult. 5 quizzes (1 dropped) Doable class for non-science majors. He is amazing and loves what he teaches, learned a lot
Seriously the most material I have ever had to study for his tests. Its obnoxious and pointless. Tests are hard even when you study the insane amount of material.. hate this class so much
So cute and passionate about the material. Attendance isn't recorded but random clicker quizzes are given. Go to class and read the book for an A with minimum studying. Really does make you love wildlife, especially loons!
LOVED his class. He is very passionate about the subject matter and made me passionate about it as well. It's easy to listen with intent during his lectures, and they are never boring. The content isn't too difficult to comprehend either. I would definitely recommend him to anyone and everyone!
He's an amazing teacher and it's a great class. If you need to take a Group D, take this class! He's so nice and enthusiastic and even if you're not interested in wildlife at all, he will convince you to love it. The class is also super easy. As long as you pay attention and study a little for exams, you're fine. You don't really need the book.
His class was sooo easy! And he taught straight from the textbook; i got As on all the tests and barely opened the thing. His class was boring at times but all in all, definitely my favorite class of the semester!
He's super nice and clearly loves his work. If you like snow leopards you will love his class, because that's what he does research on and it's brought up in class a lot. The tests were pretty easy if you make sure to review notes, no hardcore studying required. He's really nice! Also his wife taught a class while he was out and she was cute.
If you don't take this class then your experience at UD is lacking. This class is awesome and Dr. McCarthy is the greatest! It's not hard to get an A in this class if you spend a little time before the exams.
LOVE YOU
great professor, great class
Awesome class, loved the material and it was pretty easy too. You gotta go to class though, the questions and quizes are directly from class material.
Dr. McCarthy is awesome and this class has been one of my favorites of the semester. Tests are very easy and straightforward if you briefly study the textbook questions and lecture notes. He is super adorable, passionate, and loves this subject! This drew me to a minor in Wildlife Conservation. I DEFINITELY recommend this class!!!
Absolutely love this class and him!! He's fantastic and because he's passionate about what he teaches he makes you interested, too. He has a great sense of humor and likes to have fun. If you have no knowledge of wildlife studying will be required, but the tests are not hard at all if you go to class and take some good notes.
He is a great person. Not too "teacher-like" since he tries to give jokes and let you out early. You will need to study both slides and book however I found a lot of the exam review questions online. take notes in class. If you are not one to go to class, make sure you find out when he is giving the clicker questions because that can help you grade
This guy and his class was amazing. If you didnt taken this class at some point during your college career, you did something wrong. Lectures fly by and are so interesting. Just an overall great professor and great guy and the material is interesting and he keeps it that way. The exams are straight forward and not too difficult. Pop clicker quizzes
I love professor Mccarthy, he is a great professor and really loves that hes teaching. The class itself was easy and he makes it worth going to class. you watch a lot of interesting videos and clips often and the material is always interesting and exciting. I recommend taking this class to anyone who likes animals and the environment
Really easy class! Just show up, pay attention, etc. Pop clicker quizzes that are not hard. Exams are easy. Do your readings if you wanna do well, but if not then you'll get a C or something. Lectures tend to drag but sometimes he discusses really interesting things going on currently with the environment. He is really friendly and knows his stuff!
He's a great teacher who has an obvious passion for this subject, which makes the lectures engaging and interesting. He shares personal experiences relating to the subject making it easier to study.
Loved McCarthy! He really knows how to get through to students and the class definitely makes an impact. Quizzes are unannounced but fairly easy. GO TO CLASS and just take notes. The reading questions are all on quizlet so there's no need to buy the book. As long as you go to lecture and dedicate some time, you will get the A.
I took this class as a breadth requirement, and it almost made me want to change majors! I wish I had actually put more time into the readings, because if I had I definitely would have gotten an A. McCarthy is really interesting to listen to in lectures and really knows his stuff. Cool class, relevant material, and he makes it fun to be there.
Professor is very approachable and helpful. Group project was difficult and hard to fully understand at first. Class was very practical and helpful when it comes to the subject matter. Get ready to critically think. Did not do too well since I did not study enough. Not difficult material to study for. Attendance is necessary to understand material.
He is very passionate about his classes and wants his students to do well. His exams are clear as long as you do the readings and attend lectures. He's a great professor and I would take his class again.
An easier group D class, but he can get off topic and teach a bunch of things that won't be on the exam. Never really tells you what is going to be on the exams, but they are all multiple choice and fill in the blank so not too hard. Do the reading, it's not necessary for class every day but helps a LOT on the exam.
BEST PROFESSOR AT UD HANDS DOWN. honestly if i was not a senior i would change major because of him. take this class! its very fun and interesting. he posts PP notes online. there are 3 pop quizzes but they are 1 multiple choice question. very easy. 3 tests. you don't need book all reviews are on quizlet. I would absolutely take this class again
Dr. McCarthy is great. He is truly passionate about the subject and wants to pass it to his students. His lectures are little boring but he adds some videos to make the lectures a bit more enjoyable. Take this class as a breadth requirement for an easy GPA booster.
I loved this class! The lectures are long, but he adds videos to make them more interesting. He gives pop quizzes, but they are extremely easy clicker questions and you get extra credit if you're there for all of them. If you go to class or look at the lectures online and answer the reading questions it's easy to get an A. He's a great professor!
Easy class, there's only 3 exams and some iClicker quizzes throughout the semester that are easy as long as you were in class the day before. The tests are pretty easy. You need to study but they are straight forward. Don't buy the book. The only information you need from the book is a study guide he posts online and the answers are on quizlets.
Dr. McCarthy is awesome. He's very passionate about his teachings & his course is very interesting. If I didn't focus as much on my difficult classes & study a bit more for this class I would have gotten an A easy. But if you want an A, make sure you go to lectures, he doesn't have UD capture and his posted powerpoints are just a bunch of pictures.
If you are interested in this topic, then this class will be very easy and fun, but the lectures can be kind of boring because it's a lot of common sense. The pop quizzes are easy as long as you regularly attend class and he's hilarious.
This class is a basic course and comes off as boring and common sense in some places. Given that, he tries to make it more interesting by adding videos and personal experience to the lectures. You'll need to do the book questions for the exams, its 50% lecture 50% book. The exams are average, you'll do fine if you study a few hours before. Take it.
Loved taking Dr. McCarthy's class. He is so knowledgable and truly a great teacher. I took this class to fill a breadth requirement and was so pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it.
super friendly guy and an informative class, especially if you care about the environment!
An easy 3 credit class. At times you may yawn upwards of 20 times in a single lecture because they can be very boring.
I loved Dr. McCarthy's class. Lectures are very interesting and I strongly believe everyone should take this class. Attendance is not mandatory, however there are 3 easy pop quizzes throughout the semester. There is a lot of reading required, however if you do the readings and study the lecture material, exams are very easy. Would recommend!
Dr. McCarthy is an awesome professor! I took his class over winter session and we had to move through material quickly but he always took time to answer questions and discuss the material he is more passionate about. Great professor to have any kind of conversation with. Exams are easy, pop quizzes are a joke, but you still learn a lot.
Kyle is passionate and dedicated and it truly shows. His lectures are for the most part, very interesting and even entertaining. To pass, you should show up regularly to lectures and study the readings.
Dr. McCarthy is amazing. He's a really cool and laid back guy and you can tell he's really passionate about his subject. While his lectures can be sort of long given they're on the TR schedule, it was usually interesting enough to keep you paying attention. A great class to take for Group D.
Professor McCarthy loves what he is teaching and truly cares about his students learning from the class. The class itself is very interesting if you like wildlife and want to conserve it. His tests are a little tricky, but if you study you should be fine. 2 exams and a final with an easy grade boosting assignment. Love him and this class!
Nice, funny guy, he teaches the class in a great way that keeps students interested. Highly recommend this class.
Absolutely loved this class and ending up minoring in Wildlife conversation! He will change your life and is such a fun man! The lectures were interesting and very relevant.
McCarthy is honestly my favorite professor at UD. He is inspiring, funny, and makes the content not only something that is interesting, but something that you want to continue learning about. His passion for the subject was part of what made me decide to be an animal science major
Kyle McCarthy is one of the best professors I have had thus far. He is extremely knowledgeable in this area of study! He has seriously given me a whole new outlook on our environment and the animals that inhabit it.
Awesome teacher! Lectures are powerpoint based and attendance is not mandatory. He is extremely passionate about the material and makes it interesting. 2 exams and the final make up most of the grade.
I had to take this class as a science requirement, and I was dreading it, but McCarthy made this class so enjoyable. I learned so much about animals and the environment, and I apply this knowledge in my daily life as a non-Stem major. He is super fair, nice and gives good lectures. Make sure you do the readings because you'll struggle if you don't.
Absolutely love him. One of the best classes I've taken. Definitely recommend. Tests were easy if you studied.
He's honestly a legend in the teaching industry. A true icon. Amazing man. He's an adorable man with a true passion for wildlife. Sadly, I don't share that passion but I do share my love for the class because he is a GEM. It's hard to put into words. Full Disclosure: I have a literal D+, the class is low key hard and the tests are mad confusing ILH
not the best but alright.
Dr. McCarthy really cares about what he teaches. His lectures are all really interesting and you should take good notes. 3 exams and some easy online quizzes, just make sure you review your notes and reading questions and youll do fine. I took this class for an easy breadth requirement, but I ended up loving it. I recommend taking this to anyone!
Mccarthy is AMAZING! He has done so much work in the field and knows what he's talking about! He's really funny and inspirational, and he puts all of his lectures on course capture. He really cares about his students and wants you to learn. Such an interesting class and such an amazing professor to teach it.
Dr. McCarthy is great, I highly recommend his class! He's so passionate about the subject which makes the class interesting. The material isn't hard to understand. You need the textbook (it has content not covered in lectures that will be on exams). The exams weren't bad either.
This was an amazing class. McCarthy is so so so passionate about what he teaches and that shows in his lectures. His class is standard and the assignments are clear. He gave clear instructions and also was clear on what was on the exams. I actually was sad when we had our last lecture, I can not wait to take him again in the future.
Great professor. One easy 5-6 question online quiz due at the end of every week based on lecture, 1-2 easy Virtual Field Experiences, and 3 exams. Knows that many take the course as a gen-ed so he does his best to make topics as straight forward as possible. Much less work then other science courses my friends have taken. Class also on course capt.
Hes passionate about what he teaches and that makes the lectures very enjoyable. No papers for this class, textbook readings are aided by guiding questions he puts up on Canvas, an easy online lecture quizz each week, two VFEs and a total of three exams. The exams have no trick questions so youll be fine as long as you go over your lecture notes.
This class was an easy group D! McCarthy is engaging and his lectures are always paired with interesting videos and slides. Three exams and weekly (super easy) online quizzes are most of your grade and as long as you study for the exams, you'll get an A!
Love his lectures, he's always showing different videos and pictures that are really interesting and he's always got a good story to tell.
Prof McCarthy is a really funny, caring professor. His class is very easy as long as you make an effort to pay attention. You have weekly lecture quizzes online, 2 exams that are quite straight forward, and the final. It's not as easy of a Group D as you may think, but there's no math involved so that's definitely a plus if you're looking for it.
I've taken literally everything he teaches. He's a gem and is so into what he does. But be aware that Mammalogy is no joke. It's hard. You have an exam every week in lab on the Order, Family and species (common and latin name) and yes spelling counts. If you study everyday like I did you should be fine.
Lecture is so fun! McCarthy is a wonderful prof, and really cares about the subject. Everyone in the class loves him, and even if you dont care about what hes teaching he makes it so interesting to listen about. I definitely suggest taking him at some point while youre at UD!
He and his wife are both in the field of conservation and he will often reference their international projects (one is used as a citation on wikipedia, which I thought was cool) and it makes the lectures very engaging.
Took this class online over the summer. All of the grading was super clear cut and reasonable. The class was just modules of recorded lectures, open note quizzes, a short weekly blog post, and a midterm/final. As long as you do all the work, you'll learn something and get a good grade.
He is a nice person and he is a very good teacher as he is always willing to discuss topics in more detail. His lectures are not too heavy with material and his exams are ok as long as you have looked over the material.
I took every class I could with Dr. McCarthy, he truly is the best! When taking Mammalogy be prepared to study a lot, that's if you want to get a B or higher. The Latin words are not the easiest to learn, but it is easy to find ways to help with spelling. McCarthy is always willing to the best he can to help you understand the content.
This class was entirely online so I didn't get to know the prof well. Exams are the vast majority of your overall grade and they are tricky with little/no review or guidance from the professor. He is a nice guy and it is an interesting class but I found him hard to reach at times.
This was a completely online asynchronous course. Dr. McCarthy actually pulled it off to make it a smooth, easy going course that was actually enjoyable. The homework was mixed in with the module so it never felt like too much work. Dr. McCarthy makes the lectures very interesting. The checkin quizzes are easy and good practice for the exams (easy)
Took this class online over the winter (very straightforward). Lectures were interesting and not very long. 2 exams & a discussion post every week (not long either and quite easy). Professor McCarthy is easy to contact with any questions & is invested in his students. Definitely would recommend this class even if your not required to take it.
I can name few professors that show the same love for the material that Professor McCarthy shows. This guy shows a true passion for wildlife that you won't get anywhere else. As someone who isn't majoring in anything close to ENWC, I really appreciated McCarthy's love for wildlife and his willingness to answer any questions from his students
Loved this class & prof! He's so passionate about what he's teaching. Most of the lectures were pretty engaging. The only grades u receive are exam grades. His exams are straightforward, although he'll add a couple niche q's in there that trip people up. There's also fill in the blank w no word bank which can be hard. If u pay attention ur fine
He is the greatest ever. So adorable and gives so many opportunities to make your grade better. I'd recommend going to class, but the slides are posted. There are a few textbook readings that will appear on the main exams. I took the honors section, VERY easy honors credit. Take this class, it's great.
His class is async but his lectures are all very interesting and most of what he's teaching about he has seen first hand. He is very nice and very accessible outside of class and makes his lectures fun. He has assignments that really help you grasp the topic. I would 100% take this class again.
Made the material really interesting and always finds a way to keep it engaging. Brought in animal skulls and taxidermies and made participation not mandatory but encouraged. Tests were true to the material and the textbook is actually used but not overwhelmingly so and tells you exactly what you need to look for in the text :) Would recommend!!!
Prof. McCarthy is a great guy. As long as you put in some effort by going to class and paying attention, you'll pass. His tests are very fair, and anyone I knew who wasn't doing well didn't attend class often. Dr. McCarthy is very knowledgeable and passionate about the material, which makes lectures more exciting. I would definitely recommend!
I'm taking this class as a breadth requirement, but Professor McCarthy is a great professor. He is very passionate about his work and tries to build excitement for the class. Attendance is not mandatory and it is very lecture heavy so it can be hard to motivate yourself to go. There are usually quizzes during the week that help boost your grade.
Love McCarthy! His lectures are very interesting and he even brings in specimens every other lecture and passes them around. He does not check attendance, and posts his lecture slides on canvas. There are short quizzes every week, 2 long quizzes, and a few exams plus a final. Majority is based on lecture slides and the rest is of the reading.
Dr. McCarthy is an amazing professor and cares a lot about his students. He's very passionate about the subject and it is clear through the way he teaches.
Dr. McCarthy is an amazing professor! I took his wildlife ecology and conservation course and his class was very engaging and offered chances to boost your grade. Would definitely take a class of his again. Also recommend doing the textbook readings for the exams.
Dr. McCarthy was one of the best professors I've had. I had a hard time in this class with a lot of technology issues but Dr. McCarthy was able to help me through everything and get me back on track.
I know nothing about wildlife and rarely ever attended class and still finished with a B. He posts all lecture notes so the quizzes and other online assignments are easy. Just note that he doesn't post study guides for any exam other than the final.
I would take a class with Professor McCarthy every semester if I could. Really an amazing teacher who made me interested in a subject I had no prior experience with. Tests aren't that difficult if you attend lectures enough, some easy chances for points later on in the semester.
The only grades in this class are quizzes and tests. He is super nice and sweet and loves what he teaches, but it is kind of difficult. If you study well, you should be fine. Attendance was extra credit for most lectures, at least this semester. Tests were curved if average was lower than previous years. Honors section was super fun too.
Fantastic professor! Super caring, nice, very interesting lectures, pretty easy as long as you read the textbook and go to class. I highly recommend taking the honors section of ENWC201 if you can, lots of field trips to the ecology woods and working with data on wildlife identifications, which is all very interesting. Highly recommend.
took the async version of intro to wildlife, this course was a great course and I highly rec for the math science tech breadth for non majors. one discussion and reasonable quiz every two weeks per module, videos did take a while to take notes on though. midterm and final, you do have to study for them because all included lectures are fair game
Prof. McCarthy makes this class engaging with hands-on activities and a real passion for the material. While attendance is mandatory, the lecture slides are posted, and Unstuck study can help prep for exams. A fair workload with a good chance at a strong grade.
Wildlife majors you all know about this class. Many people say it will be the most difficult wildlife class you will take as an undergrad here at UD. While I can admit it was a ton of work it was also probably the most engaging and interesting class I will ever take. If you study and keep up with the material weekly, you will surprise yourself.
