If you have a passion for Exercise and Sports Science, then take this class! You will learn A LOT! He is a great teacher who knows his material; everything you learn can be applied daily to yours/others health and fitness. If you're looking for an "easy" A then this is not the class for you. Study, do your work and you'll make an easy A.
Allot of diagram drawings in class and must study a good amount to do well. Smart guy who does care about helping students for the most part. Does not curve ever
He makes the class more difficult than what it needs to be for an introductory class. He loves to talk about how he has a masters degree. His lectures are a bit vague, and has a bit of an attitude.
Exams are hard and he gets a kick out of how hard he makes them.Only gives online quizzes and exams (all comprehensive). He never curves any grades and is rather rude during lecture. However he is helpful during office hours. I would avoid him at all costs!
Personally, I enjoyed Mr. Pateks class. You will learn a lot but it is a tough class and attendance is mandatory. If you do the review sheets for each exam then you'll be alright. Quizzes are all online and are relatively easy (not timed). I made a B in his course. He encourages people to take advantage of his office hours too! Great instructor!
He is new and still very young, so he is still trying to make a professional name for himself by showing little mercy to his students to get respect. I feel this will go away after a few years, however I did enjoy his class although it was a bit redundant.
Mr. Patek was still pretty new when I took his class, so he was still trying to figure out how he wanted to teach the class, but it was very interesting and fun. He is passionate about his job and loves to talk about what he does, which helps fuel your interest in the subject. Be respectful to him & his class and he will be respectful to you.
Patek is AMAZING. He is hands down my favorite professor. He always makes class interesting, his exams aren't hard at all, and he does in class labs that are a lot of fun. He genuinely cares about his students and wants them to learn. Take him for motor learning!
Kyle is AMAZING. He is the first teacher that has actually seemed to care about his students. He will help you with anything and try to reword things so you can grasp the concept better, even will reword questions on the test if you raise your hand. Best teacher I've had at Texas State. Not easy at all, but work hard and it'll pay off!
He truly is a passionate teacher. His class is by far one of the harddest class I have taken, & his exams are comprehensive. He truly cares about his students and really helps out during office hours. One thing for sure is his exams are hard. So if you are passionate about exercise science take his class but you if you want an easy A don't bother
Hands down one of the best professors at Texas State especially if you want to learn more into ESS. His exam force you to learn and comprehend the material. If you ace the first 4 exam you don't have to take the final. Helpful during office hours. If you want an learn, easy A/B. If you want an easy A class without studying would not recommend
He is very hard professor. The professor is helpful but you have to know way too much. If you want an easy class avoid him at all costs. I enjoyed him and learned a lot. Had to work just to pass.
He was an awesome professor! Class was pretty tough, but very informational. I would take him for every class at the university if i could. Must attend class to pass. I had him at 5:00 and thought it was a perfect! He grew close to our class. No textbook needed, but its definitely not an easy A
Dont bother if you want an easy A. This class will break you, but you will learn a lot
He is the best teacher I have had a Texas State thus far. He is extremely passionate about what he teaches. Going to office hours is really helpful. His test are difficult so STUDY STUDY STUDY. There isn't anything on his exam he hasn't talked about in class. Overall my favorite professor. I would take him again.
Currently taking him. His test is his lecture. So make sure you record him! I studied about 4 days before each test and got A's. Test are all cumulative! I love the way he teacher he gets your attention so its easier to recall things during the test!!
Patek is a great teacher. Don't need a book. Just take great notes, and don't miss class. Going to his office hours is very helpful. His tests are VERY detailed, so if you don't know the topic, it will reflect on your test grade.
MC exams. Tough but he tells you everything you need to know. Record lectures. OFFICE HOURS ARE LIFE. VERY helpful and nice. He truly cares about his students. I spent 30 hrsexam studying and I made an A. He draws lots of diagrams! He makes it FUNctional. Such a fun and interesting class. Gives good feedback. Tells stories. There for you. Reviews
One of the best teachers I've ever had. If you want to LEARN EX PHYS or any other course he is teaching take him, if your just looking for an easy grade take someone else.
One of the greatest teachers I've had the privilege of taking and would sign up with him all over again if had the chance. Lecture is interesting and keeps you engaged without getting bored, making class go by fast. He doesn't go off powerpoint or book, so attention to detail in his remarks is where people have success.
He warns you that his class is hard because he goes more in depth than he has to. Unless you're an A student DON'T TAKE HIM. The worst experience I've had in school thus far. He also does not do curves because he does not think he should.
Wow. Literally the best professor I have taken. He really cares about his student. Go to his office hours if you dont understand anything. Record his lectures and take good notes. If you truly want to learn about ex phys, take him. Anyone who says he teaches too much wants everything to be easy. I got an easy A by studying. If I can, so can you!
Patek is one of the best teachers you will have in undergrad. That in no means is to say his class is easy, because it is not! If you want to learn take him. If you want someone who does everything to give you the tools to succeed take him!! You have to put in work but it's worth it! I'd take any class he taught on any subject honestly. He's great!
His lectures are great. All based out of the textbook that is not required. His diagrams make the information easy to comprehend and retain the information. He is an excellent teacher and knows his stuff. He is there to help you but EXPECTS you to LEARN the material he teaches.
Honestly this class shaped me into a hardworking student! Ended up making an overall B even though I was I thirsting for that A!! If you know your studying skills are trash , do not take him.
Best advice: Record the lectures and take detailed notes. His tests are made to be tricky, even if he tells you otherwise. His answer choices are made to trip you up because there may be more than one possible answer. He's a psychology major and he's told us how he designed some of the answers choices to look like the correct one but really aren't.
Patek is hands down one of the best professors I have ever had. You will leave this class understanding exercise physiology. He doesn't try to "trick" you. The mistake I watched others make was studying to memorize instead of to learn. The entire class is about the body, the body is one, connect the dots. It should be intuitive, but study... alot.
Honestly, the greatest teacher at the university. He's very passionate about what he teaches and really wants all of his students to succeed. Tests are worded a little tricky, so you really gotta know your stuff. Take detailed notes and record each lecture and you'll be fine.
Mr. Patek is the best professor I've ever had! He loves his students and ex phys! I took him 1.5 yrs ago and I STILL visit him often to talk about concepts learned in class. He makes you work hard for your grade, but you come out knowing so much. His teaching philosophy is fantastic. Smart, funny, caringeverything you want in a prof! TAKE HIM!
Took him for the summer & failed the class. (Way too fast pace for me). Re-taking him for the fall. He's passionate about what he does & it shows. One of the best professors I've taken since I've been here! Don't study to memorize, because it won't help. Study to learn it. Tests are tricky so make sure you communicate with him if you need help!
Grades way way too hard. The materiel isn't very difficult he just makes tests harder than they have to. If you are late or forget something he is not understanding although he does the same himself.. you may have to take him for E-Phys.
Super hard class, test averages are in the 60's on each test. Some people get high A's, some people also get in the 30-40's. Attendance is very important. If you want an easy B or so, do not take this class. That being said I really enjoy Patek as a person. Full respect for the man
Great professor! The class is not as difficult as everyone says.I would definitely recommend and take again given the opportunity.
Amazing Professor, Challenging, however you leave the semester with a lot of knowledge .
Very passionate about his work. Best professor I have ever had at Texas State. Made a C+ in the class. Would definitely recommend him. You will learn in this class. Very thorough. Record lectures and go to office hours and you will be fine. The grade is not handed to you, but you will feel you earned it afterwards whatever the outcome.
He absolutely loves what he teaches and this shows in every single lecture. If you are in college to learn the material that Mr. Patek is the professor for you. He makes the material engaging and easy to learn. Be prepared for difficult tests, but he gives you all of the materials you need in detail throughout the semester. No book required.
Patek is a great professor and defiantly prepares you for your next ESS classes. After the first few test you know what to expect and how to study. Go to office hours.. he gives you example test questions. you defiantly have to dedicate your time to this course but patter is a great professor
Professor Patek has been one of my favorite professors by far. You learn so much in his class that you apply to everyday life. You do have to study and his answers to exams are in all the material he goes over so you know what to expect. I enjoyed his lectures and his style of teaching. Very smart and passionate about his field of teaching.
professor patek is an amazing professor 12/10 would defiantly recommend taking him! you do have to work for your grade though. test are worded difficulty but if you record lectures and go to his office hours you will do fine.
Wowwwwww. Literally the worst teacher I've ever had. He doesn't give $#!T about us. He cares so much about his students, that he gave us a test over material that we hadn't even covered yet! The Personal Training Assignment and Group Project? Forget about it! You'll make a hard C in his class, because he CARES so much about us. Wish I dropped.
Terrible @ communicating & grading tests-avg was 3 wks!! 3 tests & pointless assignments! Deliberate tricky tests -what's the point of that?!?! Don't take this guy. you'll work ur butt off just to pass & chances r, u won't leave this class understanding it. I won't be taking anymore of his awful classes. Clearly, teaching *isn't* a priority to him.
Patek is an outstanding professor. He designs his tests to determine whether you understand exercise physiology or not. If you try to memorize tidbits you will not do well. You need to put in the effort to understand the concepts, which is kind of a good thing for ESS majors. He also has online quizzes and attendance grades to buffer your average.
I've taken Mr. Patek for two classes now and would take him for every class if given the opportunity. He has been the best professor I've ever encountered. His classes are difficult because you are expected to LEARN and not memorize. He is more than willing to go out of his way for students to succeed, just show some effort. Overall, amazing prof.
This is one of those classes where you have to do well on each test in order to pass. If you think RT is easy, think again. This class is unnecessarily hard and that is mostly due to the teacher. If you must take, be sure to attend every class, record the lectures AND read the book. There will be stuff on the test that he didn't mention. TRICKSTER
I have taken Mr. Patek for two classes & wish I was able to take him for every class! His exams are difficult if you just try to memorize the info and not how to apply the info. It is not an easy A but you will get your money's worth and feel immensely more educated by taking him. Go to his office hours!! Even if you don't have specific questions
He is a really good teacher. This was by far the most difficult class I have ever taken in college but also my favorite course I have ever taken as well. He knows everything and anything about exercise physiology and he has a passion for teaching it. I am really happy I took this course with him and plus he's nice to look at. I
He is the best professor I've ever had. His lectures are engaging and he is very intelligent. He cares a lot about his students and will go out of his way to help you be successful. It's harder to get As in his classes but he will prepare you for the future. His tests are very hard so study hard. I recommend taking him, he is perfect!
Class is harder than It has to be , but youll learn something
This was by far the best class I've taken, period. In all honesty, the only reason this class is hard is if you don't love the material. Patek teaches on a level that forces you to actually comprehend the subject. Record his lectures, take the notes, see him in office hours. Go to any and all reviews. You'll be OK.
His Exercise Physiology is by far one of the most fun and challenging courses I have taken so far. He has tons of real life examples for the concepts in his lectures and he draws a bunch of diagrams in lectures that helps you visualize things. He is a great guy that just pushes you to do your best. You will not pass this class without trying/going.
Patek is such a great professor, he wants you to succeed but he makes sure you really know your stuff. You can tell he really has a passion for what he lectures over and that's really refreshing to have a professor like that. He's also cute lol. However this is a challenging class and if you want to make an A you definitely have to work hard for it
It should be an easy-ish class but its not bc the teacher doesnt know how to organize a class well. I showed up every day, took thorough notes, recorded lectures and there were definitely questions on his tests that we didnt cover. He is sneaky and thats a terrible quality in a college prof. I escaped with a B and I studied hard, everyday.
Mr. Patek is a great professor and has a very good knowledge on everything you need to learn and keeps class interesting and makes us laugh every now and then. However, you need to study every single day to pass this course. It is not easy and even a D or a C you need to work for. Definitely record his lectures and go over them every single day!
Mr. Patek was the best professor I've ever taken at Texas State! It was also one of the hardest classes. Make sure to record every lecture and go to every class. He is really caring and understanding with his students, GO TO OFFICE HOURS you will not be disappointed. You will learn a lot, but this is definitely not a class to blow off.
Patek forces you to learn. This is not the professor to take if you have a heavy course load with a lot of difficult classes. He will challenge you with higher than usual difficulty on tests making you really understand the concepts to fully understand each question he is asking. Great guy and puts an extreme amount of time to help students out.
Mr. Patek is hands down the best professor I've ever had. That being said I have never worked harder and had to dedicate so much time to learn the material for a class before. He really cares about his students and their performance so go to office hours and ask plenty of questions. Be sure to record his lectures and understand the material!
Patek is great! I recorded every lecture and would listen to it at home before the next class. Took minimal notes during class and added the rest in while listening to the recording. Definitely go to his office at least once a week (even if you don't have questions). I studied almost everyday for about 1-3 hours a day and made a high A in the class
He's a great professor and he's very passionate about his work! The class is tough but he gives a lot of extra credit and is more than willing ti help in any way he can. Definitely take his class!
Mr. Patek is tough. This will probably be one of your hardest classes, but you will learn a lot. His tests are very applied. You will not pass if you don't really understand the material. Go to office hours and ask questions, make sure to record, and to constantly go over the diagrams. If you do this you will be fine. this class is not for slackers
I struggled in this class at the beginning of the semester, but went to his office hours twice a week and got to know him pretty well. He's a nice person and a great professor. He will make you work for your grade. So go to class everyday, take him up on office hours, and study a lot for this class. You will be okay.
This class took every ounce of my being for 4 months to get an A. And I loved every minute of it. Mr. Patek is hands down the best professor you will ever have.
Clearly the people who rated him negatively aren't used to having to refer to outside sources/put in effort to study for exams. This is an exercise based class, yes, which is usually straight forward, but the physiology of exercise is important and complicated. It's simple; if you want to learn, take Mr. Patek. If you don't, take someone else. :)
He is a great professor. He tells you at the start that the tests are difficult, and its true. They are hard but he doesn't try and trick you with the questions he asks, he just styles them to make sure you are actually learning. You don't need a textbook because everything on the tests is said in class. Definitely would take his class again.
Great professor. Hardest class I have ever taken but I got exempted from the final. Make sure to record lectures and listen to them while studying.
Pay attention in class!! It saves so much studying time. ASK QUESTIONS! The tests are hard and do require lots of studying, but its doable. Everything you need to prepare for the exam is taught in class. Also I highly recommend recording the lecture, that had a huge impact on the A that I received. Just don't fall behind
This is a challenging course so be prepared to devote a lot of time outside of class studying. His exams are hard, some might say he has tricky questions/answers(I agree). LEARN the material, record the lectures. Go to his office hours as much as you can, it is helpful. He's a good instructor but I wouldn't put him over the top
Exercise Physiology is a tough course and the Exams are application. However, Professor Patek is very passionate and does an amazing job teaching you the material and affords you with helpful tactics to learn and excel through this course, especially his diagrams! Put in the work and you will come out of his class a better person!
After having Patek for ex phys and 4317, I can say he is the best professor I have had at TXST. Any class you take with him is a challenge because to do well you have to understand the material, not just memorize. But he always puts his student's success first in any situation. He is very passionate about what he does is always available for help.
Mr. Patek is honestly the best professor at txst. Ex phys was a hard subject but his lectures are so good and he explains everything so well and tries to have everyone engaged. Be prepared to actually study because if you don't you wont pass the class or come close passing the class. Go to office hours!!!!
Professor Patek is probably one of the best professors at Texas State. His lectures are great and very detailed. Record them and do the diagrams as hes doing them and then listen to lecture when youre studying. Prof Patek was always willing to answer questions and his office hours are very helpful. You have to put in the work, not an easy class!
While it is very clear that Patek is very passionate about this area, he values being able to call his test "difficult" and "confusing" over students actually doing well. My lecture was supposed to be 8 am to12 pm, that's 4 hrs of lecture a day, yet he never once uploaded more than 2 hrs of lecture once. On top of that, hes recycled every video.
It was a pleasure to be a part of Mr. Patek's class and I thoroughly enjoyed the material and his teaching style. He is by far one of the most caring and passionate professors I have met and I would absolutely take another class with him again. I especially respect him for the fact that he makes you work for your grade and his diagrams are awesome!
Pateks class is tough but he is very willing to help you. I made an A in this class. The key to succeeding is going to office hours for help, attending SI sessions, and thoroughly understanding the diagrams. Tests are application based so you have to know how to apply what you learn. Dont hesitate to ask for help if struggling, he will help.
I can't explain how much of a gem this professor is! The class is hard, it requires lots of work, but his lectures/ personality/ understanding make it the most rewarding work I've ever done. Get a study group, go to office hours, attend class live (it's interesting anyways!) and you'll get an A and be exempt from the final in no time! Loved himmm!
I never wrote or even thought about writing review but this guy is definitely an exception. He actually genuinely cares and it real heartwarming. In my 4 yrs of college, I've never enjoyed having a professor until this class. Im very much motivated after taking this course.
This class is hard already going into it. Patek does know this material and does want you to succeed, but with that saying the class does not have to be as hard as it is. As well when we were nearing the end for a couple of exams it was rushed and we had to teach the rest of it to ourselves. DEVOTE yourself to this class is the only way to passing.
Patek definitely knows this material and he cares for his students. The test are hard and worded tricky. Towards the last two exams and finals it was really rushed and had to basically teach yourself unless you can go to his office hours. Take this class with easier classes. Its really hard to get a passing grade so be careful.
Mr. Patek is an amazing professor. His lectures are filled with passion and the occasional humor, making it enjoyable to learn. Ex Phys is not an easy course and Patek understands that. His tests are slightly difficult but he does a great job of making sure you're prepared. Truly enjoyed his class! Would definitely recommend him.
Mr. Patek is my favorite professor I have ever had!! His classes are super hard, but if you put in the effort, the payoff feels so good. These are the classes where you can tell who is smart and who isn't. All about putting in the work, and if you do, you'll succeed. I am so glad I have gotten the chance to experience Patek!
Prof Patek is AMAZING. He is a prof who actually cares for his students. To do well in his class I highly recommend going over lectures and attending his office hours. Test are tricky but do-able.
Patek cares about his students. I specifically took him for other classes because he treats you with respect. If he feels that a test question isn't fair he'll give the students credit (do not count on this alone to pass) PAY ATTENTION TO HIS DIAGRAMS. Draw and redraw them. He is fair in his grading. If you pay attention and study hard you'll pass.
Thanks to COVID I took this class online mostly. That did not stop Patek from doing exercise demos on zoom to help us understand the material. He has a passion for the classes he teaches. He is very understanding and respects his students. If you take his class understand that this is not a blow off class. It is entertaining and informative!
This class was online. I will say that he breathes into the microphone and it makes it extremely hard to focus. I literally had to force myself to watch his videos because his breathing bothered me so much. But he was cool , very detailed. His tests are really hard.
Patek is literally the best professor I have ever taken. He cares so much about being the best teacher he can be and he wants you to learn. His class is far from easy but he makes everything so interesting, I wish I could take this class again or take him for another class.
Patek knows his stuff, he is a great prof. He clearly cares about his students and his students understanding the material. Although the actual course was challenging, Patek made is easy and enjoyable. Definitely take him if you can, his lectures were extremely informative and interesting
Patek is very knowledge and passionate of what he teaches. He wants you to learn, not just memorize and forget after the semester is over. He cares for his students and it shows in his teachings! Do not skip class, you will fall behind and stay on top of your diagrams, those are key! Loved taking him and wish him the best!
He is the best professor for Physiology! I love his attitude in class and he is just awesome! He helps us understand the material and prep for exams. His exams are HARD!! He grades exceptionally for the exams. He gives us points back on tests that everyone failed to get correctly. He's a hybrid class at the moment. I would HIGHLY recommend him! :)
He is one of my favorite professors I've had, especially during COVID. Made hard concepts very clear and easy to understand by providing visuals (diagrams) to help you study for your exams. Provided great online lectures with great audio/video to make the hybrid course just as helpful as in person class. He truly cares about his students!
Definitely need to do the work for this class, I didnt and now Im suffering the consequences. SI sessions apart of your grade so go to them. Lots of diagrams & lecture videos so pay attention. Cumulative exams with lots of applied questions so know the concepts.
The class is not hard. Show up, take notes, listen to lecture videos, and study before the tests and I promise you you will get an A. I finished with a 99 and never put any extra effort in this class and I know people with a dance major who finished with a 98. Outside SI sessions are mandatory
Mr. Patek is an amazing professor. If you truly want to learn, you will excel in this class. If you want to skate by and not give much effort, you will fail. It's that simple. He gives you all you need to succeed. The people in my class that did poorly, didn't do so because they were dumb, it was because they didn't try.
Mr.Patek is the most caring prof you will ever have. The class is difficult so it wont be an easy A but he wants you to do well so do the work and ask him for help and you will do well in the class.
class is easy if you show up for it & take lots of notes. You have to watching the lectures & go to class if u want a A, go to si sessions before each exam & do the worksheet they give out, its great review. Class is based on points so do all the extra credit you can, & he gives 5 attempts on each quiz. I never studied for an exam & I made a A.
Best professor I have ever taken! Very caring and accessible after class, and genuinely cared for his students to grasp concepts. Lecture videos were not super long, easy to follow, and had lots of diagrams to help. Tests do overlap a bit 75%new 25%old information. SI meetings helped greatly as well, and are counted as a grade. Great professor ever
Mr. Patek is honestly one of the most caring professors you could have. The class and the material are challenging if you are still in the early stages of your degree (which I was). Watch the videos and continuously take notes on his PowerPoints. If you do the work and try your best, it is difficult to fail this class.
Even though the class was extremely hard, Patek was a good professor to take it with. His lectures are nicely made and easy to follow, but it's a lot of information. I would take him again, but I would take it in person instead.
Patek didn't teach my lab, a graduate student, Jules Damico did. She wasn't the most enthusiastic person, but got the lectures done. Most of the lab class was lecture and the actual lab is squeezed in.
Genuinely the best professor i have ever had. He is the reason I became a better student. If you get the chance to take him. please do. He provides different learning styles for everyone. We had diagrams to go with every major point. I actually learned this semester!
Patek is the best professor I've ever taken. I never excel in online classes, yet he creates such an environment to learn. You can tell he really cares about you and the subject and it makes you want to do better. I had an hour-long Zoom with him going over an exam, and I've never felt more listened to or cared about. BEST PROF. TAKE HIM.
SO GOOD AT HIS JOB! Literally best teacher I've had at Texas State as an ESS major. He makes learning easy, provides several notes and PowerPoints to look at, but not an overwhelming amount. Multiple attempts at quizzes, open note exams, and gives points back on exams often! Learned so much
Best teacher I've had, took his class in the summer. Definitely recommend this guy.
This class is extremely hard. Be aware to listen to what he says as 20% of an exam can be from what he says. Make sure you go to office hours and ask questions. Exams are hard and select the following. If you put enough hard work though you can get a A
One of the best teachers I ever had. Changed my life being in his class. He is passionate about teaching and it shows. He goes at a high pace but if you have trouble you can always reach out to him for help. I would go to his office hours once a week and it was great. Breaks down everything to the simplest level.
Mr. Patek is my favorite professor I've ever had! He is a fantastic professor, so kind and caring, and wants you to succeed. Just pay good attention to the lecture, take detailed notes, and you'll do fine.
Thorough explanations of every piece of content given in class. Always was fair with grading and being understanding.
Great Professor! Puts real effort into helping you understand the material and get a better grade. It is a more challenging class, but if you listen to the lectures and ask questions, you will perform well. Genuine guy, I would retake his class if I could.
GOAT. Take him.
One the most genuine and good professors you'll meet. He cares about his students and gives incredible resources and advice. Exams can be difficult but nothing crazy. Would take again easily.
If you have an opportunity to take Patek, DO IT! He is by far the best professor I've ever had at Texas State. The course itself can be difficult, but he's ALWAYS willing to help and cares about his students so much. Even if you're deciding hybrid with him or an in-person with another professor, CHOOSE HIM. He's so dedicated, you won't regret it.
I took this class as a part of my coaching minor. If you're taking this as a part of your minor, I would try and take this class online unless you're ready to spend a good amount of time studying. That's not to say Patek is bad, he's great. He gives good feedback, is super flexible, and makes sure that you understand content.
