Dr. Hanks was a wonderful instructor. His exams are hard, you really need to understand the concepts. He wore the best shoes to class!! Expensive shoes not those velvet type.
This class is HARD!!!!! do not take unless you really have the time to devote to studying or you will not pass any of his tests!! his quizzes are not like his tests so you really are stuck studying everything!
Dr. Hanks is HARD!! so if you want to pass, you better make sure you study, study, and study. He doesnt care about attendance but remember if you are not there for lecture, you will miss out on A LOT OF INFORMATION. GOOD LUCK
LISTEN TO ME!!!!!DO-NOT-TAKE If you work, have kids and/or are married!!!!!! You need all the time you have to understand every concept!!! If you have time to meet with tutors, do so. He is NO joke- this teachers teaching and HARD ways-will make you doubts your major! Seriously!
This is the hardest class I've ever taken. The lecture are long, boring and confusing. Be ready to read the book! he doesnt test off of his notes, he gives you the basics and expects you to learn from the book practice problems. Plan to study!! Dont take this class with another SCIENCE!! Hanks is nice but doesn't go easy on anyone!
Very, very difficult class. Prof Hanks is a really cool guy and pretty funny but his lectures are extremely intense and the tests are insane. Other than the difficulty level, I am enjoying the class. I definitely wouldn't take it with any other difficult classes though. Lab can run a little long.
VERY HARD CLASS.Lectures long & methodical but no learning tips, ie: "think of it like this...", etc.Prof not very helpful when asked. You really need to do a LOT of outside research. No extra credit,no make ups.If you miss lab or lecture, you miss a LOT.
Dr.Hanks was one of the most thorough professors I have ever had.He was very well organized, both on paper(as in following the syllabus)and throughout the semester.Class attendance is not mandatory, but EXTREMELY valuable.Utilize the online support for the text.It is an excellent resource to help prepare for exams.Challenging but rewarding course.
Dr. Hanks is an amazing teacher. He is always prepared for class and very nice. He knows EVERYTHING about physiology just off the top of head. The subject itself is difficult but if you study and really understand the material, there is no reason not to get an A. It is a 5 unit class so be prepared to learn a lot, quickly. I highly recommend him!
He didnt explain things well, i felt like his examples were all over the place and his tests were super hard.
NOT an EASY A with Dr. Hanks! Expect to WORK. Keep inmind a 5 credit course. I agree that Dr. Hanks is one of THE most thorough professors, highly organized, and expects you to think. No memorize. Fast class. What I didnt understand, he was helpful in explaining. Go to office hour! Really breaks things down then and gives helpful hints!!!!
He is a terrible teacher! If you ask a question he'll say he's getting to that and never answers it. His tests never matches his notes and he grades on your spelling and grammar more that your actual answers. Try to avoid his class if possible.
I thought prof Hanks was a gr8 teacher. Learned alot in his class about the body. Looked forward to going to class (minus the annoying chatty heads beside me). Study your notes for tests, read the book and do the easy journals, and you'll do good. I ended up with a B. :-)
This class was the hardest class that I have ever taken. I am a 4.0 student and got an A-BUT you really need to study at least 5 hours per week outside of class.Even if you clearly understand the concepts, his test questions were confusing. Not always sure what on earth he was asking in the test.Tests took at least 2hrs. 20 ppldropped this class!
Great class with Prof Hanks. Difficult subject, but he thorougly explained concepts. He EXPECTS thinking (after all we are going to nursing) and does not hold ur hand. This has helped me IMMENSELY in nursing school and I still refer to some of the notes. He may be hard but he prepares you. It depends on what you want!
He does not explain well at all. He teaches off power points, and what I mean by teaching is he reads them word by word. Good thing is he curves everyones score. Not an easy class because you have to teach yourself. If you ask him a question, he gives you the run around and never makes his point, which just adds more confusion. Take someone else.
Dr. Hanks is an amazing teacher! NOT EASY…YOU WILL WORK HARDER THAN YOU'VE EVER WORKED IN ANY CLASS. But…he is preparing you for nursing school. Read your notes, then read them again, then read the book, then read your notes again. STUDY STUDY STUDY. Exams are hard. Thought required---not memorization! I work full time and got an A.
This teacher is horrible. Textbook and lecture does not match. What is the purpose of buying the textbooks if he is not going to take the lecture and base his test from it. He provide some copy from other textbook that is not really helpful if you do not have the whole copy. Do not take him. Test is super hard.
Horibble Teacher very horrible. He is not willing to help. The only good about him is he is organize. Lecture, test, and textbook does not match. So it doesnt matter if you read the book over and over. You have to analyze everything to understand it. Even you understand it his test was just unbelievable hard. Stay away from him if you can.
Learned so much from his class that is helping me as a transfer student. He definitely does not hold your hand just like most my teachers at UCSB. He teaches JUST like them. Wish i could go back because my exams now are twice as hard. Study his notes, DO NOT be scared to ask if u don't understand, and go to office hours. He doesn't bite.
HE is good in explaining and sometimes very confusing. His Test is very hard as well.. Try it and you will see...
Very hard class with a difficult teacher. His test is super hard. The subject is hard and the teacher make it hard more. More than half drop the class.
He's what you should expect in a college course. He will help you if you ask for help. He is a tough grader; that's cause he gives you so much info during lecture. If you use your book to study, the learning objectives and questions in the lab manual as well as all his handouts for study questions you should do fine.
Be prepared to attend every class and lab, study hard, and ask TONS of questions. But I really liked Dr. Hanks and would definitely recommend him! Tests are hard, but he's a fair grader. You will work for your A in this class, but I learned so much from him!!
People can complain, but hanks is a great teacher. Super organized. Gives you everything you need to pass Gives study guides for every test. Studied my butt off and got A's on all tests. Gives few extra credit points throughout. One side of notes for test WRITE SMALL. He really knows his stuff and always answers questions and helps if you need it!
He's a nice guy but a very hard grader. He isn't mean about his standards but he does have them & he expects you to meet them. He's very respectful & funny, but his lectures are SO long. They go well into lab time leaving little time for labs. Stickler for details. Grades like someone's life is depending on your right answer (ie clinical setting)
I took his Chemistry Class this semester at first he was doing good but as time goes by he gets worst. He lectures during lab gives us less time to do it + he let us do the labs without instructions. When we ask for help he makes us feel its a dumb question or if u talk to him about your grade he always say "get a tutor", I dont recommend him.
Dr. Hanks gives you everything you need to do well! That being said, you do need to work for your grade. If you show up, pay attention, and do the work, you will learn so much from him.
This professor is probably the hardest teacher I've ever taken. He gives practice problems before tests', but none of those are helpful. His lectures are way too much. He grades tough. Lab reports are doable, but he does to much, meaning; you really need to write in depth answers. Don't take him if you want to pass.
Dr Hanks obviously loves to teach and he is very knowledgeable. Provides a lot of information to help you succeed. I learned so much in this class and it is great to know in depth the processes that occur in the body. Be prepared to study, ATTEND class, approach him if you have any difficulty and ask questions if you need more clarity.
Dr. Hanks is a Medical Doctor. He holds his students at a high standard and knows how the medical field works. Study smart and every day. He will prepare you for the TEAS!
Dr. Hanks is a fantastic lecturer in the way he motivates and inspires his students. Study the powerpoints. He posts them to canvas. Make sure you attend class, he purposely leaves blanks for you to fill in during lecture. Make the best use of your time during lab. That is the only time you get to study the cadavers, other than test day.
Hard class in general he gives good study guides! but hes not easy to talk to he can be stand offish, hes one of those teacher that when you ask a question he doesnt give a solid answer back he'll ask you questions until you figure out your own answer. He can be vary frustrating to learn from.
Professor Hanks is a cool guy, but the way he teaches makes it difficult to stay on track. You must really apply yourself to practice problems that he might not even give on exams. He will expect you to know more than what is required.
News flash - Anatomy is a hard class in itself. Don't sign up if you want an easy grade because you won't get that from ANY teacher. It's a lot of reading. It's HARD WORK. It's a lot of dedication. Dr. Hanks is SOO knowledgeable and hands down the BEST teacher I have ever had. I can't wait to take him again! He is clear in what he expects from you.
Professor Hanks really cares about his students. He wants them to really understand the material and succeed. For lecture he posts the ghost notes of the PowerPoints on canvas before class. I recommend you print, write out, or bring your laptop to class to have your notes. Pay close attention and add detail to your prelabs and study, study.
Anatomy is a class you have to work your butt off to get that grade so don't expect that any prof. will cut you some slack. Dr. Hanks is such an intelligent professor who tells you like it is. He is very clear with his material and what he wants from you. Lots of homework is given to benefit you as the student. Be there and ready to work for that A
Dr. Hanks is an amazing professor. He is the best anatomy teacher at the school right now. He has great lectures and he really wants you to learn. He has a amazing personality. He is a character, and he makes lecture fun because he throws jokes in here and there. I HIGHLY recommend him because he will prepare you.
With the semester being shortened down to being 16 week now, you'll be required to learn 3 systems within one unit (ex: respiratory, urinary & digestive) crazy right? he refers to the study objectives but only 30-40% will be on the exam. Take another professor for Physio, hes better for anatomy
Anatomy is a tough subject. With that being said, I'd argue he could be the easiest Anatomy professor. Implements multiple choice in his lab exams unlike other professors. Gives study guides for every single exam you take. He gives you everything you need to pass. Also has a cart of textbooks he brings for students to use. Super caring guy.
Dr. Hanks runs a great class, he is serious about teaching and does a great ob at it. His class is not one to shy from just because it is difficult. I took him for both anatomy and physiology. I loved that he was true to his calendar. He made all his tests clear and threw out questions that were not clear enough. He is hard but prepare to learn.
Avoid taking this class if you like to ask questions, he is vary tough and makes a hard class that much harder. When I would ask him a question in class he would tell me to look online or in the book. No help at all. His study guides are longer then the exam its self, and no help at all. PLEASE DONT TAKE HIM< SAVE YOUR SELF.
Dr. Hank is an amazing professor. He always encourage you to ask questions, and answer every question in patience. He always smile, always patience, always respect. A lot of extra credit. Maybe the first exam would take you more time to study. But resist. His exam is going to be lots easier in the following. Take him!
Hardest class I've taken. Dr. hanks is smart and respectable but his class is hard to get the hang of. I never knew what to study the lecture notes, the learning objectives or the book. Be prepared to have a question answered with another question and there was very few assignments so if you do poorly on a test its hard to come back from it.
Dr. Hanks is the best anatomy professor at LMC. He's very nice and esay to talk to. Anatomy is not an easy course but he prepares you for all the tests. He gives us study guides for all the tests and only lectures us on things that will be on the test. I would highly recommend Dr. Hanks for anatomy.
Dr. Hanks is a great professor and cares about his students. Anatomy is a hard class in general and will require lots of studying but he knows his material and will help you to succeed.
A professional professor. Present in front of class with a neat outfit. Organize publish material prior class. Return paper in about 10days. clear feedback. Explain thoughtful for any question. He is a rare professor still spend time and effort do to hand writing lecture note on the board, instead of reading along power point! I am thankful!!!!!!!!
Hardest teacher I have ever taken. Very tough almost unfair grader, he wants your answers to be exactly what he has in his head. He WONT round up your grade, even if your a couple points away from a better grade. Heavily dont recommend him for physiology. Lectures very dull and he doesnt answer your questions clearly at all will answer in riddles
TOOK BOTH BIO040/045 with Professor Hanks. He expects his students to do their best. Your grade DEFINITELY reflects the time and effort you put in. I suggest REWRITING your notes, doing practice problems, and youtube as soon as you get home. In addition, answer questions in lab manual for BIO045! AND most of all TALK TO HIM! Ask questions!
Dr. Hanks is a tough Professor. He is very knowledgeable and will make you work for your grade. Took physiology with him and you are expected to know the information in very fine detail. However with lots of work put in an A is obtainable in his class.
If you want to pass and actually learn pleases don't take his class, it's a huge waste of your time and money. His tests and lectures are completely different. He doesn't answer questions and explains things. He doesn't care he will tell you to go to the tutor for questions. Please don't take his class!!!!
He expects you to study the vast amount of info from lectures, textbook notes, the notes you learned from my lab and mastering assignments (3-4 per week), the learning objectives, and study the 1-2 lab assignment per week. If you want to pass this class expect working 40+ hours per week on it. The set up of this class is not conducive to learning
His class is honestly so confusing his tests and lectures are totally different and he confuses you with big words. Its something about his tests the way he asks questions even if u do know the answer its hard the way he writes them. He is confusing and very dull and expects you to memorize all of his content and when we do its not on the test!!
WORST EVER! He assigns over 10 chapters a week and tests you on it every week, he makes you buy a Pearson subscription but then says the assignments aren't worth any points on Pearson, but he will DOCK YOU POINTS if you don't do them? He doesn't follow the SLOS and his class is organized POORLY, his curriculum is scattered and confusing. WORST EVER
definitely not the prof ur looking for. very unorganized. he makes his tests incredibly hard but quizzes super easy LIKE ?? tests are different from lectures. hes super heavy with so many tests+quizzes every month. along w a presentation, 4 hard lab reports, Etc. gives a lot of extra credit tho. only good part! DONT TAKE HIM U WILL BE CRYING
don't take this professor Physiology, horrible experience. From being months with an A, I ended up with a C in this course of how difficult it was. His tests were nothing like what you learned in lectures or in the modules. I do not recommend it. Quizzes, group projects and lab reports horrible
Extremely difficult and test heavy. Tests are timed and you do not have time to comprehend questions in time allotted. 4 very difficult labs during semester and multiple quizzes weekly. Will not change grade regardless of how close to next grade. Some extra credit throughout the semester. Doesnt teach just gives hours of work outside of class.
Here is what you need to know. He is terrible. He does not teach all he does is tell you what assignments to do and thats it. The tests are your grade so even if you do good on the assignments you wont pass even if you do good. His office hours are less then 10 minutes long so it doesnt even help. This class was painful and I barley passed..
His lectures are entirely unhelpful and just regurgitate the text in a more confusing way. I basically had to teach myself by reading the entire textbook. In the few in-person sessions we had, he came off as condescending & rude. You never know what exactly he wants on assignments or tests, so it's all a guessing game. Avoid for your own sanity!
This class was the most awful class I ever took. I had straight As and this class left me with B after an intense struggle. Absolutely do not take this class if you need to get into a competitive program like nursing. His exam questions are little riddles based off of off details. I took a phys class before and got an A, and I still struggled
Although I did pass the class with my own effort he did not help me whatsoever. During private lessons was so rude and unhelpful and everything you study is not even on the test. I do not recommend him. Physio is hard itself and he takes it to a whole different level. YouTube helped throughout his class not him. Do not take!!!
Wow I wish I can rate this professor a 0/5. The quizzes are easy but his test are super hard like what/? He does not round up your grade even if its by 1%. He's by far the worst professor I had in my entire life. If you are taking this class to get into a nursing program I suggest you find another professor because he will ruin you.
physio is a hard class in general, having an understanding prof is important when youre struggling. his class was extremely difficult to the point where I had anxiety. He doesnt round your grade, not understanding, super unhelpful, and doesnt teach correctly. Gives us old lectures from 2 years ago & YouTube videos. Tests are different! Hes bad!
I really recommend not to take this prof even if he is the only one to take. He will def make it so hard for you to even get a good grade. Hes very confusing and oh boy those tests are nothing compared to what he teaches. Gives short amount of time for tests and gives long questions like? Atleast give more time than if your going to do that.
I get an A in most classes;I got an A in his. Have an open mind, and work very hard. Cares a ton, but can seem harsh. Besides physiology, you'll learn boldness, critical thinking, advanced study skills, and a great deal about yourself and life. I recommend this class to anyone willing to work hard. Class is hard. So is Hanks. Possible, though.
Honestly, not the best in my opinion. There so many better professors out there that are dedicated to help you learn & unfortunately hes not one of them. He was not understanding a lot, although I passed with a B i feel like this was an effort only from myself. He was extremely rude during office hours, do not recommend, theres better out there!!
One of , if not the most, challenging of teachers. Hanks is tough and does not hold ur hand. I write reflecting that I'm thankful for that because i found the same now I'm in nursing school. What we must do is way beyond and I'm now prepared and know how to ace my classes and think. Thanks Hanks for help and being tough on us.
DO NOT TAKE! You will end up retaking. This is not a JC type course. Exams are riddle type case studies. His lectures are literally foreign. Save yourself the headache. Nothing is clear or concise.
A lot of work
Hanks teaches a tough class, there is a lot of information in a short amount of time. He is very knowledgeable and gives great clinical application of the subjects in his lectures. He wants you to pass, but will not reward poor effort. I have learned much from him and feel more prepared to go into nursing school next year. 10/10 recommend.
Professor Hanks is one of LMC's most inspirational and credible teachers. I know students like the easy way but the medical field does not. Professor Hanks would get you ready for medical school. In the long run, you would be thankful to him for not only providing guidance but also to make you a better scholar.
Barely retained lecture info.I referred to YouTube (NinjaNerd) for each unit we were taught (helped so much since his teaching/lectures weren't that helpful) Tip: Learning objectives are key to help passing the exams as well. He did adjust the exam points which helped with grades.
very gracious in designing his course trains us for professional setting & challenges us 2 learn. Study schedule matters he gives great direction that makes you think be ready with specific & concisely worded questions. Use office hour review incorrect on exams after each to prep 4 final is must. He is brilliant & cares we learn skills & tools.
His quizzes are not what you expect them to be, they are much harder and different than the material learned.
Good professor the only thing is that the lecture notes are not the same as the quizes and exams
this was such a tough course, yet if you are passionate about learning about the body, he is an AMAZING teacher. He does not make it easy on you at all, he really wants you to understand the the material. Be prepared to study a lot, but if you do the study questions and go over the learning objectives for each lecture, you will do great!
The test have nothing to do with what he teaches
He provides slideshow presentations that don't have a clear outline of important material, making it hard to decide what to study. Not all material is evenly distributed throughout exam. He provides the slides on canvas if u miss lecture, however he will remove some info so that ppl attend lecture. Its fair but makes it hard to study missed info.
Being in Dr. Hanks class was amazing! He has very clear lectures, and adapts his content to the class. He is a tough grader, but he has loads of useful feedback to offer. He is a very inspirational professor, and definitely helped fuel my passion for the medical field!
I think while he was a very serious and hard grader, he never made the class over difficult and clearly let us know what would be on upcoming tests.
I initially really liked Dr. Hanks and thought I was in for a challenging but rewarding semester with him. However, as the semester went on I became increasingly frustrated with the difficulty of his tests. I do not feel like the Learning Objectives acc
I initially really liked Dr. Hanks and thought I was in for a challenging but rewarding semester with him. However, as the class went on I because increasingly frustrated with the difficulty of his tests. The Learning Objectives do not accurately reflect what he will test you on. Very specific.
I took his physiology class and it was a terrible experience. It was one of the most stressful classes I've ever had. The lectures were very heavy and he often couldn't finish them on time. He also lectured during lab sessions, and even though labs were mostly independent. Grading was also very tough, making it hard to earn a good grade.
